The entire MarineMax organization now has access to an even greater network of resources to support the potential for additional growth of its client base.

The acquisition will allow Northrop & Johnson to enhance the overall customer experience through the ongoing development of the marketing capabilities that leverage the latest technology. This should further enhance client retention and further, stimulate the lead generation and client referrals. Both Northrop & Johnson’s and Fraser Yachts’ insights and relationships with buyers, sellers and charterers are underlined by the world’s most comprehensive network of highly qualified individuals. Kevin Merrigan, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, and the entire Northrop & Johnson team will continue to operate and manage its activities.

The acquisition of Northrop & Johnson furthers the MarineMax commitment to fulfilling our mission of exceptional customer service, regardless of whether a client is buying, selling, insuring, building, crewing, or chartering. The combination allows us to provide an even greater network to serve our customers’ shared passion for yachting. We are very excited that Kevin Merrigan has joined our team. Kevin has many years of invaluable experience and has built a team that is passionate about the industry.”

Kevin Merrigan stated, “MarineMax stands out as best in class for boats and yachts under 120 feet. With the combination of the teams and resources of both Fraser Yachts and Northrop & Johnson, MarineMax can provide end-to-end global boating solutions as we grow the superyacht services business. We are delighted to join MarineMax given that we both have always maintained a family-like culture and share similar ideals and values. MarineMax is the best partner to support the continued success of Northrop & Johnson and our very strong and tenured team.”

The Company provided an update for its June quarter, which ended June 30, 2020, that revenue will exceed the same quarter in the prior year as retail trends continue to be driven by very strong demand for the boating lifestyle. The Company’s liquidity, consisting of cash on hand and availability under its credit facility, now exceeds $180 million before considering its sizable unleveraged real estate portfolio.

MarineMax acquires Fraser Yachts

US broker MarineMax has acquired Fraser Yachts from the Azimut Benetti Group and will consequently expand Benetti’s presence in North America.

Fraser, which is based in Monaco and has 20 offices worldwide, will operate as normal with the existing team, including chief executive Raphael Sauleau, remaining in place.

Current directors Paolo Vitelli and Roberto Giorgi will also remain at Fraser in an “advisory capacity”.

Speaking about the move, MarineMax president and chief executive officer Brett McGill said: “The acquisition of Fraser is significant for MarineMax as it dramatically increases our presence and strength in the strategically important superyacht category.”

He added: “We are also very excited to add the Benetti Class of yachts to our luxury motoryacht offering. The history and product of Benetti separates the brand from other yachts and will present larger and more luxurious options to many of our customers, who are looking for that next step.”

Chief executive officer and chairman of the Azimut Benetti Group Paolo Vitelli added: “MarineMax’s unrivalled success through many years makes it the best possible owner of Fraser for the future. Strategically, becoming independent from the group will favour the development of the commercial relationship of Fraser around the world.”

Reflecting back on the successful partnership between Fraser and the Azimut Benetti Group, Fraser chief executive Raphael Sauleau said that the brokerage house had enjoyed a market share of "over 24%" for the last five years.

"Today, our brokers are outperforming the market, closing more transactions for clients than any other provider and beating Fraser's own 10-year records along the way."

Looking ahead, he said: "We very much look forward to the next chapter in Fraser's growth with a company we know has been built on solid relationships, efficient and transparent business ethics."

MarineMax, Inc. (NYSE: HZO) announced that it has entered into an agreement for the acquisition of the Fraser Yachts Group (Fraser) from the Italian-based Azimut/Benetti Group. Fraser is consistently ranked as a leading superyacht brokerage and largest luxury yacht services company in the world. The transaction is expected to be accretive in its first full year.

Additionally, MarineMax strengthened its relationship with the Azimut/Benetti Group, by expanding with Benetti Yachts, through a multiyear dealership agreement, to become its exclusive dealer for the Benetti Class of yachts in North America.

Fraser, founded in 1947, is based in Monaco and operates through 20 offices around the world with over 160 team members. Its strong presence in Monaco and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., two prominent yachting epicenters, provides the organization with a strong base from which to operate and provide its services world-wide. The entire team of Fraser is remaining in place and will continue to operate and manage its activities. Additionally, current directors, Paolo Vitelli and Roberto Giorgi, will remain with Fraser in an advisory capacity.

Azimut, founded in 1969 by Paolo Vitelli, acquired Benetti in 1985. MarineMax has represented the Azimut brand in the United States since 2006, growing that brand to rank first in market share among current yacht builders.

“The acquisition of Fraser is significant for MarineMax as it dramatically increases our presence and strength in the strategically important superyacht category. Second, it expands our international capabilities and footprint, unlocking other potential future opportunities,” W. Brett McGill, Chief Executive Officer and President of MarineMax, Inc., said. “We are very excited about adding Fraser and its team to MarineMax. Fraser is clearly the leader in the services it offers and we intend that it will operate in the future as it has historically. We are happy that Paolo and Roberto will remain with Fraser as their years of experience are invaluable.”

“We are also very excited to add the Benetti Class of yachts to our luxury motoryacht offering. The history and product of Benetti separates the brand from other yachts and will allow for a great migration for many of our customers who are seeking larger and more luxurious yachts,” McGill added.

“MarineMax has been a valued partner of the Group. MarineMax’s unrivaled success through many years makes it the best possible owner of Fraser for the future,” Paolo Vitelli, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Azimut/Benetti Group said. “Strategically, becoming independent from the Group will favor the development of the commercial relationship of Fraser around the world.”

The acquisition is subject to the customary completion of certain legal requirements in Europe and is currently expected to be completed in stages over the next few weeks.

MarineMax said it will provide an update to its fiscal 2019 guidance in its June quarter 2019 earnings release.

Fraser Yachts Acquired by MarineMax

Fraser CEO v2

MarineMax, Inc., the largest US recreational boat and yacht retailer, has entered into an agreement for the acquisition of the Fraser Yachts Group (Fraser) from the Italian  Azimut/Benetti Group. MarineMax acquires Fraser

Fraser ceo, raphael sauleau talks exclusively about the nature of the acquisition and the brokerage house’s plans moving forward….

Image for article MarineMax acquires Fraser

MarineMax – one of the largest recreational boat and yacht retailers in the US – has confirmed that it has acquired superyacht brokerage house Fraser in an agreement that is anticipated to be accretive in its first year. Formerly owned by the Azimut Benetti Group, which assumed sole ownership in October 2014, Fraser has expressed expansion plans as a result of its new shareholder.

“The process was indicated by our shareholder at the time,” recalls Fraser CEO Raphael Sauleau. “The process and discussions went pretty fast, and it was only a few months ago that things started to materialise.

“The ties between the companies are very strong and I think the desire for Mr Vitelli was that when he came to sell Fraser, it would be handed over to a company that shares the same values as Azimut Benetti,” Sauleau continues. “He found that attribute in MarineMax, which is the reason why the discussions went very fast from the day MarineMax had the desire to acquire Fraser.”

MarineMax has worked closely with Azimut Benetti for many years, having represented Azimut in the United States since 2006. Today, alongside the acquisition of Fraser, MarineMax has strengthened its relationship with the Italian shipyard once again as it takes on an exclusive dealership agreement for Benetti yachts in North America.

“MarineMax has been a valued partner of the Group,” says Paolo Vitelli, CEO and chairman of the Azimut Benetti Group. “MarineMax’s unrivalled success through many years makes it the best possible owner of Fraser for the future. Strategically, becoming independent from the Group will favour the development of the commercial relationship of Fraser around the world.”

As explained by Sauleau, one of the primary objectives for the Azimut Bentti Group was to ensure that Fraser was acquired by a firm that would look after the brand and continue to invest in its growth and development.

"MarineMax, is a very strong brand and an extremely high performer in the US market. The new acquisition will allow us to increase our footprint there. - Raphael Sauleau, CEO, Fraser

“MarineMax, is a very strong brand and an extremely high performer in the US market,” says Sauleau. “The new acquisition will allow us to increase our footprint there. We already have three offices out in the US and we had big plans to expand in the region. Naturally now with the parent company being very strong in America, we will implement a strategy to develop the brand and our presence out there.”

MarineMax has expressed to the parties involved that it is keen to work with Fraser to strengthen the business and provide the brokerage house with the resources it needs to continue on its upward trend. “MarineMax are not just coming to take over,” continues Sauleau. “They really want to grow our business and to provide some resources and invest, potentially, where it is needed to expand our brand to areas where we are not necessarily present in today.”

The new acquisition will also enable Fraser to work on areas such as marketing, digital marketing and other growth strategies to further enhance the brand.

“The acquisition of Fraser is significant for MarineMax as it dramatically increases our presence and strength in the strategically important superyacht category,” says W. Brett McGill, CEO and president of MarineMax, Inc. “Secondly, it expands our international capabilities and footprint, unlocking other potential future opportunities.

“We are very excited about adding Fraser and its team to MarineMax,” McGill continues. “Fraser is clearly the leader in the services it offers and we intend that it will operate in the future as it has historically. We are happy that Paolo Vitelli and Roberto Giorgi (Chairman of Fraser) will remain with Fraser as their years of experience are invaluable.”

According to The Superyacht Annual Report: Brokerage, Fraser was recorded to have the highest cumulative value of its transactions over a sustained five-year period, based on the sample size. Here, the brokerage firm contributed to approximately 17 per cent of the entire brokerage sector’s market capitalisation between 2013 and 2017.

fraser yachts marinemax

The Superyacht Agency has also recorded that to date in 2019 Fraser has achieved the most sales, having contributed to 11.8% of total sales so far.

“What makes us stand out today is the fact that we have been around for a long time, our image is solid and people know that we are serious and professional brokers,” explains Sauleau. “And, of course, our international reach; we are everywhere – Asia, the Middle East, Europe and USA – and that combined allows us to grow as we have been doing, and now having a new partner is even more exciting for future growth.”

While MarineMax is prominent in the smaller recreational boating segment, the acquisition of Fraser will allow the company to feed its clients into the larger yachting segments, should they wish to upgrade, internally to the company.

“MarineMax remains the leader in that market segment, and while they are still preforming very well there, Fraser as a company may allow some of their clients to look at bigger boats, which today is not so much of an opportunity,” says Sauleau. “Instead of clients going to other brokerage houses, they will remain within the family and hopefully buy boats internally.”

It’s not our strategy to go below 25m,” confirms Sauleau. “Working with MarineMax will provide an opportunity for people who want to go bigger rather than us looking at smaller boats.”

The acquisition is subject to the customary completion of certain legal requirements in Europe and is currently expected to be completed in stages over the next few weeks.

Rhysida ransomware group claims MarineMax yacht dealer attack

US luxury yacht dealer MarineMax was reportedly attacked by the Rhysida ransomware group earlier this month.

The company, which experienced record revenue this year, filed a report on March 10 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, announcing that it had experienced a "cybersecurity incident."

The Florida firm said that it took "immediate measures to contain the incident," but portions of the business experienced some disruption. In the Form 8-K filing, there was no mention of ransomware, and its operations "continued throughout this matter in all material respects."

It added: "The Company does not maintain sensitive data in the information environment impacted by the incident.”

However, RansomLook.io reports that Rhysida uploaded a sample of the data they allege to have taken from MarineMax onto their website. The collections of documents do not reveal their specific nature. It appears that most of the disclosed documents primarily feature financial accounts.

Cybersecurity analyst Dominic Alvieri reportedly posted an image on X, showing that Rhysida was holding a seven-day auction for the documents. The caption stated, “Open your wallets and be ready to buy exclusive data.”

Rhysida might still release the data publicly if the bids don't meet its expectations, given that the current price is set at 15 Bitcoin, which is equivalent to $1.007 million.

“With just seven days on the clock, seize the opportunity to bid on exclusive, unique, and impressive data,” its website reads.

“We sell only to one hand, no reselling, you will be the only owner!”

MarineMax boasts a global presence with more than 125 sites, encompassing 78 dealerships and 57 marinas. Employing close to 4,000 individuals, MarineMax reported revenues exceeding $500 million in the first fiscal quarter of 2024.

Other Rhysida ransomware targets

It's not the first time the group has attacked a high-profile target. In December 2023, it made good on a promise to leak gaming and personal data related to Insomniac Games .

The Spider-Man developer refused the ransom demand of 50 Bitcoin (BTC), which is equivalent to around $2 million.

This resulted in the sharing of sensitive information online about the company's gaming projects including screenshots from Wolverine , but more importantly personal details of Insomniac staff. It was alleged that the ransomware group released 1.67 terabytes of data, made up of more than 1.3 million files.

The Rhysida ransomware group has claimed responsibility for a recent cyberattack on boat dealer MarineMax and is offering to sell allegedly stolen data from the company for a significant sum, starting at 15 bitcoin ($950,000). MarineMax, one of the largest retailers of recreational boats and yachts globally, reported being targeted in a cyberattack that caused some disruption, as disclosed in an SEC filing. Although MarineMax has not provided extensive details about the incident, screenshots of financial documents and spreadsheets have been published by the cybercriminals to demonstrate the theft of valuable data. However, MarineMax stated in its regulatory filing that sensitive data is not stored in the compromised environment. The Rhysida ransomware group, known for targeting various sectors including government, IT, manufacturing, healthcare, and education, encrypts files on compromised systems and demands ransom. Despite researchers developing a decryption tool for Rhysida in February 2024, it is uncertain if the cybercriminals have since updated the malware to render the tool ineffective. The extent of file encryption or data theft in the MarineMax attack remains unclear, and further information from the company is awaited.

A look at the most expensive superyachts at the Palm Beach yacht show and their insane features, from basketball courts on deck to ice baths and saunas

  • The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
  • Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
  • These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

Insider Today

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocketed potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam, or Turkish bath — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Price: TBD Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

However, the boat's price isn't listed, and while she's not necessarily officially for sale, that might change depending on who's prepared to buy, Mr. Bond.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters

Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter) Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library

Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.

Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.

Joy: 70 meters

Price: From $650,000 a week Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor

Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.

There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.

Triumph: 65.4 meters

Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat

This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.

She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.
