Set Up and Sail

The V11 detailing is simple but effective. In conjunction with the V11 Set Up Guide, assembly is straight forward, and vital tuning information assists you to quickly understand and master your V11's potential

IMG_6609.jpg

Vickers RC Sailing build processes are well refined and thought out.

Our boats are light, stiff and clever,  keeping to a simple and effective philosophy around detailing

The V11 design is a hull, foils and bulb package to compliment the full range of conditions experienced in RC Sailing. The hull design has full volume forward and features the familiar chines and tumblehome of the modern IOM for reduced weight and windage, as well as good tracking characteristics. The V11 features our peaked style foredeck for efficient water shedding when buried downwind and a geometrically strong shape for the forestay and mast ram areas.

Foils are slippery and strategically positioned with the rig to balance the yacht. The V11s forgiving balance through the wind range, allows the skipper to focus on the race at hand, and not rely on micro steering to maintain a consistent VMG.

The rig sits solid on its deck stepped mast step, complimented at deck level with an encapsulating mast gate arrangement over the mast ram. The rudder tube is rigidly supported inside the moulded servo tray.

Hull construction is from E-Glass Fibreglass Cloth and High Grade Epoxy Resin.

The foils are Carbon Fibre Layup with High Grade Epoxy Resin.

Paint system is a 2 pot Urethane and the boat is thoroughly post cured before finishing.

The V11 Features-

Plastic main hatch access.

Ready to accept RMG Winch and Standard sized Rudder Servo

Bow Bumper attached.

Hardware is Bantock including an adjustable mast ram, adjustable mainsheet post and tiller arm.

All necessary fittings attached for standing and running rigging.

The V11 comes out of our workshop in Beach Haven, Auckland New Zealand and is ready to accept rigs and electrics.

We also make sails that can be added to the order, or ordered separately.

So hit the enquiry button to discuss delivery times and options.

We are ready to help.

IMG_6638.jpg

Essential to success in sailing comes down to the  Rig and how it is set up and tuned. The V11 comes with a Set Up Guide that covers all the expert information needed to set up like the guns. It specifies the hardware, construction and tuning information to get your rig and sails set up and sailing near optimum straight off the bat, so you can enjoy your racing and punch above your weight.

Include Sets of sails from Vickers RC Sailing and enhance the experience.

Unhcr, iom, and unicef: more people have died in the mediterranean sea, more than 800 people have died or disappeared along the central migration route since the beginning of the year – amounting to five every day.

UNICEF logo with black fond

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, IOM, the International Organization for Migration, and UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, express their deepest condolences to the families of dozens of people who have lost their lives in two incidents in the Mediterranean, news of which arrived today with the rescue of the survivors.

Ten people suffocated on the lower deck of a wooden boat travelling from Libya. There were 51 survivors who were rescued and brought to safety in Lampedusa, Italy, by the Nadir ship of the NGO Resqship. Their countries of origin are Bangladesh, Egypt, Pakistan, and Syria.

In a second incident, 11 survivors who had been rescued by a fishing boat and transferred to a merchant vessel were rescued by the Coast Guard in the Ionian Sea and brought to safety in Roccella Jonica, Italy, along with the body of a woman who had died. Another 64 people are reported missing at sea.

According to the survivors' accounts, the boat's engine, which had departed from Türkiye eight days earlier, caught fire, causing the hull to capsize 110 nautical miles from the Italian coast. The survivors and those missing at sea are from Iran, Iraq and Syria. Among the survivors are two accompanied children and two women. If the reports are confirmed, the number of people dead and missing in the Central Mediterranean will rise to more than 800 this year – five per day.

These latest incidents generate a deep sense of frustration due to repeated unheeded calls to strengthen resources and capacity for search and rescue operations at sea to support the Italian Coast Guard. Every incident represents a collective failure and inability of Member States to protect the most vulnerable people. This week marks World Refugee Day, a reminder that more must be done for the 120 million people forced to flee from wars, violence, and persecution.

In addition to the urgent need for European support for search and rescue operations, it is crucial to promote broader access to safe and regular pathways in the European Union for migrants and refugees, so they are not forced to risk their lives at sea.

A boat carrying migrants sank off the coast of Yemen, leaving at least 49 dead and 140 missing, the U.N.’s International Organization for Migration said Tuesday.

The boat was carrying some 260 Somalis and Ethiopians from the northern coast of Somalia on the 200-mile journey across the Gulf of Aden when it sank Monday off Yemen’s southern coast, the IOM said in a statement.

It said search efforts were continuing and so far 71 had been rescued. Among the dead were 31 women and six children, it said.

MORE THAN 63,000 MIGRANTS HAVE DIED OR GONE MISSING SINCE 2014, UN AGENCY REPORTS

Yemen is a major route for migrants from East Africa and the Horn of Africa trying to reach Gulf countries for work. Despite a nearly decadelong civil war in Yemen, the number of migrants arriving annually tripled from 2021 to 2023, soaring from about 27,000 to over 90,000, the IOM said last month. Around 380,000 migrants are currently in Yemen, according to the agency.

To reach Yemen , migrants are taken by smugglers on often dangerous, overcrowded boats across the Red Sea or Gulf of Aden. In April, at least 62 people died in two shipwrecks off the coast of Djibouti as they tried to reach Yemen. The IOM said at least 1,860 people have died or disappeared along the route, including 480 who drowned.

Migrant boat sinks off Yemen coast, killing at least 49 people, U.N. immigration agency says

By Tucker Reals

Updated on: June 11, 2024 / 11:16 AM EDT / CBS/AFP

A boat carrying 260 migrants sank off Yemen's coast on Monday, killing at least 49 people and leaving 140 others missing, the United Nations' international migration agency said Tuesday.

Seventy-one people had survived the sinking, according to a news release from the International Organisation for Migration. Most required minor care while eight were transferred to a hospital for medical treatment, the group said. Six children were among the survivors rescued, while another six children and 31 women were among the dead. Search and rescue missions were ongoing, but the IOM noted that a shortage of patrol boats, made worse by current conflict, posed challenges to their operations.

The boat was carrying 115 Somali nationals and 145 Ethiopians, according to the IOM.

Each year many tens of thousands of migrants from the Horn of Africa set off across the Red Sea in a bid to reach the oil-rich Gulf, escaping conflict, natural disasters or poor economic prospects.

Gulf of Aden area, connecting Red Sea and Arabian Sea, political map

In April, two boats sank off the coast of Djibouti just two weeks apart, leaving dozens dead.

The IOM said at the time it had recorded a total of 1,350 deaths on the migration route since 2014, not including this year. In 2023 alone, it said it documented at least 698 deaths on the route, including 105 lost at sea.

The IOM said on Tuesday it was "providing immediate aid to survivors."

Those migrants who successfully reach Yemen often encounter further threats to their safety. The Arabian Peninsula's poorest country has been mired in civil war for a decade .

Migration Global Deaths

Many are trying to reach Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab countries where they can work as laborers or domestic workers.

In August, Human Rights Watch accused Saudi border guards of killing "at least hundreds" of Ethiopians trying to cross into the Gulf kingdom from Yemen between March 2022 and June 2023, using explosive weapons in some cases. Riyadh dismissed the group's findings as "unfounded and not based on reliable sources."

The IOM said last month that, despite the many dangers of the migration route, the number of migrants arriving in Yemen "tripled from 2021 to 2023, soaring from approximately 27,000 to over 90,000."

CAIRO (AP) — A boat carrying migrants sank off the coast of Yemen, killing at least 49 people and leaving another 140 missing, the U.N. agency said Tuesday.

The boat was carrying about 260 Somalis and Ethiopians from the northern coast of Somalia on the 320-kilometer (200-mile) journey across the Gulf of Aden when it sank Monday off of Yemen’s southern coast, the International Organization for Migration said in a statement.

At least 11 people dead after two shipwrecks in the Mediterranean Sea

UN agencies say 64 people are missing after shipwrecks off the coast of southern Italy.

kmr iom yacht

At least 11 people have died and 64 others are missing after two shipwrecks off southern Italy, according to a German charity, the Italian coast guard and United Nations agencies.

The German aid group RESQSHIP, which operates the Nadir rescue ship, said it picked up 51 people from a sinking wooden boat, including two who were unconscious, and found 10 bodies trapped in the lower deck of the vessel.

‘bloody policies’: bodies of 11 refugees and migrants recovered off libya, at least 49 dead, 140 missing in migrant boat sinking off yemen, masked men who abused refugees likely worked ‘in concert’ with greece.

“Our thoughts are with their families. We are angry and sad,” the group posted on X on Monday.

RESQSHIP said the survivors were handed over to the Italian coast guard and taken ashore on Monday morning, while the Nadir was making its way to the island of Lampedusa, towing the wooden boat with the bodies of the deceased.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said in a joint statement that the refugees and migrants intercepted by the German charity came from Syria, Egypt, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The second shipwreck took place about 200km (125 miles) east of the Italian region of Calabria, as a boat that had set off from Turkey eight days earlier caught fire and overturned, the UN agencies said.

They said 64 people were missing at sea, while 11 were rescued and taken ashore to the Calabrian town of Roccella Ionica by the Italian coast guard, along with the body of a woman.

The coast guard earlier said it was looking for an unspecified number of missing people, with the help of the European Union border agency Frontex.

The vessel, a sailing boat found partially sunk, was first spotted by a French boat in international waters where Italian and Greek search-and-rescue zones overlap, the coast guard said.

The UN agencies said the refugees and migrants involved in the second shipwreck came from Iran, Syria and Iraq.

According to a March report by IOM’s Missing Migrants Project, more than 27,000 people have died in the Mediterranean Sea over the last decade, whilst trying to reach southern Europe from northern Africa.

While most of the deaths in the central Mediterranean were documented off the coast of Libya, the IOM has also recorded an “increase in departures and, correspondingly, shipwrecks” off the coast of Tunisia. At least 729 people died off the Tunisian coast in 2023, compared to 462 the previous year.

When the IOM’s project began in 2014, European sentiment was more sympathetic to the plight of refugees, and the Italian government had launched “Mare Nostrum,” a major search-and-rescue mission that saved thousands of lives.

But with anti-immigration political parties steadily gaining influence across Europe, governments have attempted to curb migration flows to their countries by pledging funds to countries across the Mediterranean such as Tunisia and Egypt.

The UN and other NGOs have again called on EU governments to step up Mediterranean search-and-rescue efforts and expand legal and safe migration channels, so that migrants “are not forced to risk their lives at sea”.

49 Migrants Dead, 140 Missing in Shipwreck Off Yemen Coast

Geneva / Shabwah, 11 June – At least 49 migrants have died and 140 others remain missing after a boat capsized off the coast of Yemen. The vessel carrying 260 migrants capsized yesterday (10 June) near Alghareef Point in Shabwah governorate. Among those that lost their lives in the devastating tragedy are 31 women and six children.

“This recent tragedy is another reminder of the urgent need to work together to address urgent migration challenges and ensure the safety and security of migrants along migration routes,” said Mohammedali Abunajela, IOM Spokesperson. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families as we remain committed to supporting survivors and improving search and rescue efforts in the region.”

According to the survivors, the boat departed from Bossaso in Somalia at around 3:00 am on Sunday, carrying 115 Somali nationals and 145 Ethiopians, with 90 women among them. This mirrors the recent rise in migrants from the Horn of Africa travelling to Yemen, spurred by political and economic instability, alongside severe droughts and other extreme weather events in countries like Ethiopia and Somalia.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has mobilized two mobile medical teams to provide immediate assistance to the survivors, including six children. Out of the 71 survivors, eight migrants required further medical attention and were referred to a hospital while the remaining 63 survivors received first aid and minor treatment, including trauma care and wound dressing from the on-site mobile clinic. IOM psychologists working with the mobile medical team are providing mental health support to 38 survivors.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing despite significant challenges due to a shortage of operational patrol boats, a situation further complicated by the recent conflict. Local community members, including fishermen, played a crucial role in the aftermath by assisting with the recovery efforts and helping to lay the deceased to rest at Ayn-Bamaabed cemetery.

Despite these efforts, 140 individuals are still missing, and efforts are currently underway to explore additional search and rescue options as more bodies continue to wash ashore in various locations.

This tragedy comes on the back of two separate shipwrecks on the same route along the coast of Djibouti claiming the lives at least 62 migrants.  Since 2014, IOM's Missing Migrants Project has recorded 1,860 migrant deaths and disappearances along the Eastern Route from the East and Horn of Africa to the Gulf countries, including 480 due to drowning.

The Eastern Horn of Africa to Yemen is one of the world’s busiest and most perilous mixed migration routes, frequented by hundreds of thousands of migrants, the majority of whom undertake irregular journeys. Often relying on smugglers to navigate the journey, migrants are frequently at an increased risk, including of human trafficking, during the perilous boat journey to Yemen’s shores.

Despite the ongoing conflict in Yemen, thousands of migrants continue to transit through Yemen in hopes of reaching the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries. In 2023, IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) observed more than 97,200 migrant arrivals to Yemen, surpassing figures from last year when just over 73,000 migrants arrived in Yemen.

Notes to Editors:

IOM's Missing Migrants Project is the only open-access database on migrant deaths and disappearances worldwide and the sole indicator (10.7.3) to measure safe migration in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Together with 48 other humanitarian and development organizations and governments, IOM coordinates the  Regional Migrant Response Plan for the Horn of Africa, Yemen and Southern Africa (MRP) to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of migrants along the Eastern Route. Although  MRP partners appealed for USD 112 million , the appeal remains severely underfunded.
