Used Viking 76 Convertible For Sale

The Viking 76 Convertible yacht introduced in 2010, is described as a speedy and agile sportfishing “battlewagon,” powerfully built to muscle through heavy sea conditions, delivering a comfortable and dry ride in pursuit of tournament gamefish. Viking’s proprietary VIPER (Viking Independent Proportional Electro-Hydraulic Rudder) steering system, a type of “fly-by-wire” system for the independently controlled rudders that allow the 76 C’s tight turning radius.

With a convex hull shape, sharp entry, and nearly 9’ of forward freeboard, head seas just splash aside like on all Viking Yachts . Resin-infusion technology and Baltek® premium coring was used in the production of hull, superstructure, topsides and decks for added strength and weight reduction, and along with the time-proven running bottom, have contributed to a WOT 2500 rpm speed of over 42 knots. Average cruising speed at 2000 rpm is about 33.5 knots, which will vary with load and conditions, giving the 76 C the range for cruising to distant fishing spots.

DESCRIPTION

The 206 square foot cockpit is thoughtfully arranged for anglers with plenty of stowage for gear, two large side-by-side bait freezers, and tackle cabinet with pull-out drawers in mezzanine level. Observation mezzanine features a starboard aft facing hinged lounge with cushions and storage underneath. Mezzanine is shaded by bridge deck overhang. Owners could opt for the additional comfort of air-conditioning. Cockpit has two drop-in deck storage boxes—one can be converted to a livewell, and a fishbox with pump-out on portside. A recessed refrigerated chill box is undermounted in mezzanine step. Gaff and accessory storage cabinets are under port and starboard gunwale. Cable TV and phone connections are in port gunwale cabinet—all neatly out of sight. Some other standard features include 4 Rupp flush mounted rod holders, transom mounted fishbox with drain (optionally plumbed as livewell) and walk-though transom door with lift gate—transom swim steps are at door.

Remote controlled cockpit speakers are tied into the salon entertainment system. Viking offered many optional selections and owner could upgrade equipment and amenities as desired. Many added a sturdy Palm Beach Towers tuna tower, Rupp outriggers with spreaders, 6-rod flybridge rail rocket launcher, Release Marine fighting chair, Eskimo ice chipper for cockpit usage and Miya Epoch electric teaser reels. Electronics were owner customizable also through Viking’s Atlantic Marine Electronics subsidiary.

The Viking 76 Convertible was offered as a standard open bridge version or optional Enclosed Bridge (EB) and an open Sky Bridge (SB) could be added to the enclosed bridge model, offering a combination of both. A Sky Bridge model was also offered with hardtop features like a pod-style helm console and two pedestal helm chairs for comfort. The open bridge is offered with standard set-up for tournament fishing. Helm console with raised electronics pod is set back with guest seating around a table in front. Helm features Moritz Octoplex touch screen control monitor for controlling all vessel systems and the VIPER steering system among standard navigation and communication electronics.

Additional lounge seating is to port and starboard and is hinged for access to storage. Amenities include a top loading freezer, refrigerated chill box for drinks and snacks, sink with spray head, stereo speakers tied into salon system, Murray helm chair, and two companion seats. Bridge is accessible via aft deck hatch and ladder from cockpit mezzanine. If optional Palm Beach Towers tuna tower was installed, access ladder would be from bridge aft deck through hatch in bridge hardtop for safe access.

The Enclosed Bridge is most comfortable for cruising and entertaining with a forward raised wraparound helm station, single Stidd pedestal helm chair with two flanking forward-facing companion seats, elevated L-shaped lounge with storage beneath and teak cocktail table, finished teak cabinetry and furniture, 32” flatscreen TV on lift in cabinet, stereo with CD player, refrigerator with ice maker, carpeting, and hose connection to central vacuum system. A custom staircase leads down to salon. Aft weatherproof locking door opens to bridge aft deck with a pod-style aft docking station under portside of bridge hardtop overhang. A molded fiberglass aft facing seat with removable cushions and storage beneath is to starboard. Aft deck hatch with ladder leads to cockpit mezzanine below. A ladder from the aft deck through bridge hardtop hatch leads to Sky Bridge for safe access, if the 76 Convertible is an SB model.

As much as the cockpit and open bridge are about sport fishing , the interior living spaces are about extended cruising in luxurious comfort designed by renowned interior design firm, William Bale and Company. From the cockpit mezzanine steps, an electric sliding glass door opens to an elegantly appointed salon with open galley and dinette. The open bridge model features a day head just inside the salon to port. In the enclosed bridge version, the staircase leading up to bridge is next to the day head and salon furniture is configured accordingly. An L-shaped couch with rod storage beneath, and coffee table is on starboard side. Directly opposite is a 55” flatscreen TV on risers and a Bose entertainment system that can accessed remotely. TV is fixed mounted in the Enclosed Bridge salon configuration. Icemaker, bottle and glass storage, drawer and cabinet storage, designer touches such as the window lambrequins, teak valances, Amtico flooring at salon entrance and much more, make the salon a great area to relax and entertain.

Fully equipped galley is forward of salon and features a granite-topped island with granite overhang for 3 bar stools. Galley equipment includes SubZero undercounter refrigerator and freezer units, custom Amtico flooring, sink with single lever faucet, 4-burner stovetop, microwave/convection oven, trash compactor, dishwasher and plenty of storage cabinets and drawers. Galley is opposite a U-shaped dinette with high gloss Mappa burl table; settee has storage below. Pantry located forward of galley and dinette, is accessed from companionway.

A few steps down, companionway leads to below deck accommodations area. The Viking 76 C features a full-beam master suite with king-size berth, end tables, two maple-lined hanging lockers, 40” flatscreen TV entertainment center, side credenzas, starboard side built-in seating, vanity/desk area with stool, portlights. Ensuite master head features custom Amtico flooring, granite countertop, shower stall, linen storage, and more. Forward VIP stateroom and port aft guest stateroom both feature a queen walkaround berth that lifts for underbed storage, maple-lined hanging locker, central vacuum connection, plenty of storage, 19” LCD flatscreen TV, and private head access.

Port forward guest stateroom and starboard crew stateroom feature upper and lower bunks. Bottom bunk lifts for storage. Maple-lined hanging locker and private head access, stereo speakers with remote control connected to salon Bose system. All heads have separate stall showers and custom Amtico flooring. Laundry center with stackable washer and dryer is in companionway, along with the central vacuum unit connection and accessories.

The 76 Convertible is a versatile fishing machine with the speed and agility for rigors of tournament fishing and the comfort and range to chase trophy pelagics around the world.

Viking 76 Convertible LOA is 76’2” or 80’8” with optional bow pulpit. Beam is 20’3” and draft is 5’6”. Displacement with standard fuel load is 136,200 lbs. and deadrise at transom is 11.7 degrees. Standard fuel capacity is 2,547 gallons (optional capacity is 3,174 gallons), water capacity is 425 gallons and holding tank is 257 gallons.

This 76-ft boat (previously known as Goshawk) is a true embodiment of our traditionally-based, forward-thinking design perspective. Slim and svelte, and built in wood, foam, and carbon for lightweight and cost-effective construction. Under sail she’s powerful and exquisitely balanced, and her light displacement and easily-driven hull means that her sail plan can be relatively small for easy handling. Goshawk’s long counter and low wetted surface help her slide along in drifting matches, and her clean run easily serves up speeds in the mid-teens under spinnaker in a breeze. Her collection of silverware (including a 2d in class in the 2006 Newport-Bermuda Race) is testament to her ablities.

In 2020 the yacht was purchased and entered into an extensive refit and optimization, with the original design team (Stephens and Waring) intrinsically involved. This led to a new higher-performance underbody with high-lift/low drag rudder and keel, sleek updated sail-handling systems and a new hydraulic package, a full Li-ion battery upgrade, and an entirely new taller, lighter high-modulus cabon rig and all new sails. Anything that could be done to increase her ease of sailing, speed, and speed against rating was explored. The result is a fully-optimized state-of-the-art Spirit of Tradition racing machine. She is being offered for sale at a small fraction of replacement value, and is ready to race at the highest level, or power-daysail or cruise.

Designed for both speed and aesthetics, WILD HORSES has demonstrated that its sleek design not only sails swiftly but is also a pleasure to behold. Time and again, she has proven victorious in the 'Spirit of Tradition' class, a renowned international category that blends classic styling with modern performance. She has emerged triumphant in countless prestigious classic yacht regattas worldwide, including the Panerai Classic Yacht series, the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, the Saint Barths Bucket Regatta in the Caribbean, the Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez/D'Antibes in France, the Argentario Sailing Week in Tuscany, Italy, and many others. These new systems have been discreetly integrated into the existing hideaway compartments surrounding the cockpit, preserving the flush deck design and traditional layout of the yacht.

Walkthrough

Stepping in from the cockpit, the first thing you'll notice is the large salon with a sizable hanging locker to starboard. In the salon to port is a couch with storage drawers underneath and a pilot's berth outboard. Across from the couch on the portside is the navigation station. 

The galley is forward of the couch on the portside and features a 3-burner gas stove, ample counter space, and a top-loading fridge and freezer. Adjacent to the double stainless-steel sink is a large crockery cabinet. A small lifting table sits at the end of the counter near the sink.

To starboard and forward of the Navigation Station is a head with manual toilet and shower. 

Moving forward is the crew cabin, which has four single berths arranged in a double-bunk configuration. This cabin also includes a small hand basin and personal fans for each bunk. The dedicated head for this cabin is located to starboard upon entering.

Progressing towards the bow, you'll find two pipe berths. The pipe berths can be used for sleeping or as expansive sail storage, with generous space underneath for storing awnings, fenders, and racing sails.

Descending five steps from the cockpit, you'll find the main salon. To the portside there is a couch with a pilot berth positioned outboard. Situated in the center of the salon is a large opening overhead butterfly hatch.

The galley on the portside is compact, containing a 3-burner gas stove and a top-loading refrigerator and freezer. The cupboards are positioned along the outer wall, with four drawers situated beneath the countertop.

The double sink made of stainless steel is positioned almost at the centerline, with a large cabinet underneath that can be used to store cleaning supplies and plumbing equipment. Adjacent to the sink is a small drop-leaf table, which provides additional counter space.

Crew Quarters

Forward of the galley, you enter the crew cabin which has a separate head immediately to port and twin bunk beds that can accommodate four guests. Forward is the sail storage with two additional pipe berths.

Navigation Station

The aft facing navigation station features a varnished teak navigation desk that opens, as well as a cushioned seat that provides storage space inside. A dome light is located overhead, and a sizable port light is situated above the navigation area. On the aft bulkhead, you'll find a clock and a barometer. Beneath the navigation table, there are four drawers for general storage purposes. Additionally, the battery monitoring system and the AC and DC electrical panel are installed here.

WILD HORSES is equipped with carbon fiber spars and rod standing rigging, along with 3Di North sails. It features a lead ballast bulb style fin keel and a spade rudder construction. Positioned on the center line forward of the helm are a pair of two-speed coffee-grinder winch pedestals which can be linked together and clutched to one of the four single, coaming-mounted winch drums, allowing for maximized manpower to trim the highly loaded sails.

The extensive refit of the vessel 'Wild Horses' was carried out at the Safe Harbor Shipyard in Newport, Rhode Island during the fall of 2022. The refit included the replacement of the cutlass bearing, rudder bearing, and servicing of the propeller. Additionally, a full replacement and upgrade of the electronics package was completed, making 'Wild Horses' a top-of-the-line racer/cruiser on the market today. The integration of a robust SIMRAD AP44 Autopilot system and the seamless incorporation of the new electronics into the cockpit area have further enhanced the vessel's capabilities. These new systems have been discreetly integrated into the existing hideaway compartments surrounding the cockpit, preserving the flush deck design and traditional layout of the yacht.

54-foot boat stranded for days in Detroit River towed to nearby marina, Coast Guard says

Detroit — A 54-foot boat stranded over the weekend in the Detroit River near a city park was towed to safety early Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Lt. Kyle Rivera, a public information officer for the U.S. Coast Guard's Sector Detroit, said around 1:40 p.m. a crane barge managed float the boat and tow it to Riverside Marina. He said Tow Boat U.S. conducted the salvage operation.

The boat got stranded in the river near Erma Henderson Park in Detroit early Sunday morning. Coast Guard officials said a crew from its Belle Isle Station and the Detroit Harbormaster on Sunday rescued about 20 people from the boat after it began sinking and taking on water. The engine had flooded, Rivera said.

Officials said the boat sank before any efforts to remove the water could be made.

They also said that a containment boom was placed around the vessel and no signs of pollution were reported.

It ended in catastrophe.

D.C. striker Christian Benteke assisted and scored on two goals in the final minutes to snag a 3-2 comeback win and sink the Loons into a nine-game winless rut. Both goals came on set pieces — one corner and one free kick — a glaring defensive weakness for the Loons.

Carlos Harvey, who has been starting at center back instead of his regular off-the-bench midfield role in the last few games, was amid the fallout midweek at Allianz Field.

“I think Carlos would be the first to tell you there on that second (goal), he (is) sort of mistiming his movement back into the game, and that’s ultimately cost us,” Minnesota United head coach Eric Ramsay said. “Of course, we’re looking to continually improve in that sense and really push the players to develop. It’s certainly not for lack of work or attention, but we need to hold the players to high standards. We really need to push them, because ultimately it’s costing us at the moment, and it’s a part of the game that, of course, you can’t ignore.”

Part of the improvement Ramsay was alluding to is adding new players in the summer transfer window, which opened Thursday.

A calvary is believed to be on its way.

One back-line addition is incoming. Jefferson Diaz, a 23-year-old Colombian center back, and the Loons have agreed to contract terms, a source confirmed to the Pioneer Press on Thursday. The 6-foot-1 defender is joining MNUFC on a reported $700,000 transfer fee, but that number has not been verified.

How soon MNUFC and Diaz can finalize the agreement and how quickly he can arrive in Minnesota and play for the Loons is unclear. The club will likely have Diaz remain in his native country to obtain his work visa before traveling to the U.S. That might take weeks.

Another defender addition is described as “to be determined.” Matus Kmet, a 24-year-old Slovakian right back, is a Loons target, a source confirmed. But other clubs reportedly are in the market for Kmet as well.

The Loons are looking for a starting right back during this window, and if it doesn’t work out with Kmet, the expectation is MNUFC will quickly switch to another target. That’s what the club did earlier this week when its attempt to sign Panamanian center back Edguardo Farina didn’t get done and they turned to Diaz.

MNUFC also continues to progress in a contract with 24-year-old Ghanaian/Italian striker Kelvin Yeboah. If that deal gets finalized, he too would likely remain in Italy to receive his work visa before traveling to Minnesota.

Samuel Shashoua, a 25-year-old English attacker, is now eligible to play for the first time against San Jose on Saturday. His signing was made official in June.

Summer transfer window remains open through August 14.

Running on empty

Loons left wing back Joseph Rosales exited the 1-1 draw with Houston on Saturday due to a combination of fatigue and muscle cramping. He then came off the bench against D.C.

That exhaustion was emblematic.

“Joe has fallen victim over the course of the last six weeks,” Ramsay said. “He is a very explosive player and a player that relies on energy and changes of pace and ability to play at a certain intensity. I think over the course of him clocking up far more minutes than we would have liked, his form has suffered.”

Rosales isn’t the only player to go down amid a larger or unexpected workloads.

Midfielder Wil Trapp played 1,561 of a possible 1,620 minutes across 18 of 19 games this season, missing only one game for the birth of his child on June 15. He felt his hamstring tug in a training session the week of the Portland game and was scratched from the lineup in warmups to play the Timbers on June 29. He has been out weeks.

Right back D.J. Taylor was not supposed to play on June 1, but a toe injury to Caden Clark forced Taylor back into the starting XI that day against Kansas City. He pulled his hamstring, subbed out and was visibly frustrated in the locker room postgame. He missed two games, played in the next four and then aggravated the same injury. He is now out one month.

Resolution for Puerto Rico players

Loons defender Zarek Valentin turned to the Pioneer Press in June to shed light on how he and teammates on the Puerto Rican national team were getting paid $75 per match. That news created a stir on the island territory and might have affected change.

Valentin followed up this week to say the non-unionized players and the Puerto Rico federation have come to an agreement to pay players more money. He declined to say how much of a raise they are in line to receive.

“It’s important that the federation is showing them value,” Valentin said. “As much as some of these guys have a lot of (appearances) and are doing it for the love (of the game and Puerto Rico), I think it’s good that we can come to this resolution.”
