Hinckley Yachts

The Hinckley Company is a builder of sailboats and luxury motor yachts. Rooted in Maine’s maritime heritage, Hinckley’s core values are innovation, service, and performance. Hinckley motorboats made advancements in the yachting industry with the launch of the Picnic Boat in 1994.

In 1928, Benjamin B. Hinckley established Hinckley Yachts in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Henry Hinckley, Benjamin’s son, took over the company in 1932. By 1980, Henry’s son, Bob Hinckley, was running the company along with his business partner, Sheap McKenney.

During the 1940s, Hinckley built close to 500 motor vessels for the United States government to use in World War II. In the late 1980s, Hinckley made a drastic shift from sail to power, launching the Talaria 39, an iconic Downeast-style motorboat. On the mission for a lighter vessel with a smooth ride, Hinckley was the first American yacht builder to convert from fiberglass to Kevlar in 1991.

The Hinckley Company built its first boat in 1928 and that was the beginning of an unbroken line of vessels that would come to earn the admiration of many sailors and yachtsmen around the world. For the Hinckley Company pursing this course of boat building, each new boat that was built in their yard reached more and more of a nautical design. Today, their sailboats and motored boats always reflect on the question: “How can we make it stronger, faster and safer?” In the era when all boats were made with wooden hulls, even then were the Hinckley Company standing apart from the rest. They stood apart from the rest with the gracefulness that they had when in the water thanks to the downeast boat design. Everyone was able to pick out a Hinckley from other sailing and motor boats and those few who weren’t, were still able to appreciate the graceful shape and beautiful detailed work. During the 1950’s, Hinckley was the first to take on traditional oak frames and planking in favor of fiberglass. Hinckley saw in fiberglass, what the traditionalists had missed, and an opportunity to save weight and add strength at the same time. The hulls for Hinckley Yachts are designed by Michael Peters, a top naval architect. These hulls are constructed with an inner layer of carbon laid bow to stern with a companion outer layer of Kevlar for bulletproof puncture resistance. There is an iconic Hinckley look and no other yacht looks like a Hinckley. The Hinckley Company has achieved targets that give the boat responsive handling, confident acceleration, stability and comfort. Hinckley Talaria 55

The Talaria 55 and is considered the Queen of her fleet. She was created for the demands of responsiveness, spacious layout and power. She is designed perfectly for a gracious seagoing experience and will satisfy owners who want an environment that offers the highest standards of craftsmanship with advanced technology and designs. The Talaria 55 has a total length of 55 feet 3 inches with a large beam of 17 feet 9 inches. The flybridge offers additional seating for 6 passengers plus the helmsman. OnWatch is the new technology aboard the Hinckley Yachts, and the Talaria 55 comes complete with the Hinckley OnWatch. This OnWatch will remotely motor bilge, movement on the yacht, shore power, batteries, location and critical engine data. All of this data is available to you right on your mobile phone or tablet. Technology these days, right? Amazing. There are also options that are available to you that you can choose to have aboard your very own Talaria 55 such as adding a swim platform. With all of the innovative structures and design aboard this Talaria 55, there will not be a day where you aren’t impressed.

Hinckley Sport Boat 40C

Along with motor yachts, Hinckley also designs and build sport boats such as the Sport Boat 40C. The 40C is designed from the outset for outboard propulsion and the purpose-built for offshore performance. She is built with a lightweight epoxy-infused carbon fiber and Kevlar with Hinckley world renowned craftsmanship. There is an expansive forward J-seating area. Also, there is an optional ice maker and electric grill. The galley below is an air conditioned cabin with a refrigerator, cappuccino maker, cooktop and microwave, all standardized sizes. There is also a U-shaped settee with seating to accommodate three. This settee also converts into a queen sized berth for overnight stays out at sea. The Hinckley ownership experience is like no other, so if you are in the market for a sports boat that has it all, don’t pass by the Hinckley Sport Boat 40C.

The Hinckley Company’s roots are deep in soil of Maine boatbuilding. The company, founded in 1928 to build and care for the boats of the local lobstermen, has been in continuous operation building such classics as the Bermuda 40 and the Picnic Boat. Henry Hinckley set the course with the Bermuda 40 in the early 1960s when he crafted her stunning lines out of a radical, new material, fiberglass. This combination of elegant form, material innovation and brilliant attention to finishing detail set the course Hinckley has been on ever since in the pleasure boat business.

Today, Hinckley builds Jetboats and sailboats from 29 to 55 feet and supports its owners and other yachtsmen with its network of service yards from Maine to Florida. Two other distinguished boat builders, Hunt Yachts and Morris Yachts, were acquired in 2013 and 2016 respectively.
