This worldtimer is the latest addition to IWC's line of Yacht Club watches, a collection within the brand's trademark Portugieser (née Portuguese) line. The limited-edition model will be offered in two case metals – red gold or stainless steel – and features a glass disc printed with global timezones set into the case back.

The 18k red-gold model seen above features a silver-plated dial, while the stainless-steel model below has a slate-colored dial. Both cases have a diameter of 45.4 mm and measure 14 mm in thickness. Inside, you'll find caliber 35750, a self-winding movement with 42 hours of power reserve. In addition to a date function, the movement also includes a corrector for the hour hand, allowing it to be set forward or backward in full one-hour increments (this comes in handy when changing time-zones).

There aren't tons of ways to design a worldtimer dial, and IWC hasn't broken any new ground in this department. However, the dial is clean and legible, with 12 global cities printed around the circumference in capital letters. Moving inward, you'll find a railroad-style minutes track interspersed with applied markers for each city's timezone (plus UTC time). A bi-color 24-hour ring circumscribes the inner-portion of the dial, which is finished with sunburst guilloché in the stainless-steel version, and a matte off-white surface in the red-gold variant.

Lastly, both dials feature applied Arabic numeral hours and leaf-shaped hour and minute hands inlaid with luminous material. The stainless-steel model, with a bright red seconds hand, looks much sportier than its red-gold counterpart, which has a tonal red-gold seconds hand.

The Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer is set to be released in a limited edition of 100 pieces in red gold ($26,200) and 500 pieces in stainless steel ($10,400).

IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer Watch

It isn’t unusual to see new trends emerging on the back of current ones. In the days of small, delicate wristwatches, the IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer would have been dismissed for its proportions. But in this age of behemoths, worldtimers are afforded the requisite dial space to breathe. This not only favors historical models from IWC, but also their latest globe-trotting tool.

It’s kind of fitting that IWC should be good at making worldtimers: Founded in Schaffhausen by a Bostonian whose company named their most iconic collection the Portuguese, the aptly styled International Watch Co. has 135 years of crossing borders in the bag.

The main selling point of this watch is the world time complication after which it is named. It’s not the first time IWC have used this complication in their watches, nor the first outing for this movement in their range or indeed others: Baume & Mercier use the IWC 35370 in the Capeland Worldtimer (although that might seem strange, both brands are owned by the Richemont Group). As for an in-house forerunner, the IWC Pilot’s Watch Worldtimer uses the IWC 35370 too. It’s a reliable automatic movement with 35 jewels, a 42-hour power reserve, a central hacking seconds hand, a date display and, of course, the worldtimer function.

So here’s how it works: The best way to understand this is to imagine that this watch is actually two watches in one case, one of them keeping time where you are, the other one keeping track of time everywhere else. First things first, you need to set the date and synchronize the 24 hour wheel with the clock. If it is midday in London, the number 12 should be located beneath the city’s name on the outer ring. Now, assuming you’re in London, you then set the central hour, minute, and seconds hand to midday too. But what if you go to Paris? Simple! Just utilize the jump hour function that enables you to move through time zones with a turn of the crown. You just turn the crown once and the hour hand jumps from 12 to 1. Crucially, however, while using this mode of time-setting, the 24-hour ring remains unaffected. It will not try and stay in sync with the central display and thus make reading the time back home (or anywhere else for that matter) a piece of cake.

It really is cool. It’s so easy to just glance at the place name and see the number on the 24-hour dial beneath it. All you’ve got to do is disregard the hour hand in the center and you can tell the time in any of the featured time zones in seconds. Remember, however, this complication will need some manual adjustment if you’re traveling to certain parts of the world where the time zones are irregular. For example, New Delhi is UTC +5:30 and Kathmandu a bizarre UTC +5:45. You can still set the minutes yourself, though, so your watch will always be able to give you the right time.

This dial is superbly legible, making it impossible to ignore how much the IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer watch benefits from its size. The uncluttered dial and relatively simple set-up make this watch a joy to read. Worldtimers are finicky things and often appear busy. Achieving this level of success could see this model rub shoulders with established heavy-weights such as the aforementioned Baume & Mercier Capeland, the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Traditionnelle World Time Watch , the Montblanc Heritage Spirit Obris Terrarum Watch , and my personal favorite contender for the crown, the Nomos Zurich Worldtimer Blue Watch , released in September 2014.

The IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer case back provides an interesting conversation point. Rather than a glass back exposing the movement, IWC have chosen to decorate the glass with a ‘map’ of the world time zones (it’s as if you’re looking down on the Earth from directly above the North Pole. Given the modular and therefore somewhat unremarkable appearance of the calibre 35370, IWC may have hidden it deliberately. I don’t mind this so much, because as attractive as I find the IWC 35370, this case back is at least something different. It’s a bit cutesy, perhaps, but then, I like novelty as long as it’s well executed. From the looks of things, it is at least a sharp and striking image. I also like the scalloped grooves, cut into the edge of the case back so that the case back opener can engage.

This watch checks in with some very solid vital statistics. At 45.4mm-wide and 14mm-tall, the robust case is water resistant to 6 bar, thanks in part to a screw-down crown. You’ll be able to see the display clearly, because IWC have fitted a convex sapphire crystal, finished with an anti-reflective coating on both sides.

There’s no way I can review this release without passing comment on the strap. I’m a real stickler for a well-designed strap or bracelet, often vacillating in opinion between a traditional alligator leather or an ultramodern, hypo-allergenic rubber. The former exudes class and ages beautifully, but its lifespan is nowhere near that of rubber, nor is it always as comfortable. The rubber straps I’ve seen lately – particularly those from Breitling and Bremont – provide a new level of comfort. If it weren’t for the fact that rubber is often a jarring material choice in the dress watch sphere, I would be tempted to take it every time. Here though, IWC employs the growing trend of hybrid straps. The strap is rubber at its core and thus boasts greater durability, but it features an alligator leather inlay, effectively transforming its appearance to that of a totally different material. Although this brilliant idea is not exclusive to IWC, the brand should be praised for turning to it without fear of rebuke.

If you’re a fan of the brand, the featured complication, or larger dress watches, the IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer has something for you. Of the three main criteria this watch satisfyingly fulfills, I personally appreciate the complication above the other two. That said, the recent releases from IWC have seen the brand sky-rocket in my own estimation. If the products continue in this fashion, with such great attention paid to the requirements of a modern and ever more discerning audience, and with all aspects of the brand’s heritage handled so sensitively, I imagine an IWC Portugieser will find its way onto my wish-list soon. Gentleman Sailor: Testing the IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph

IWC launched the Portugieser Yacht Club in 2010 into the sporty yet elegant world of sailing. For 2020, the nautical chronograph model has a classic look and a steel bracelet upgrade. We give it a thorough review in this feature from the WatchTime archives.

The new IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph is a watch you can wear with confidence anywhere at the marina. A first glance shows that the third generation of the sportiest Portugieser model, our test watch, is designed to be both a nautical timepiece and a luxury accessory. The first impression is confirmed upon closer inspection of its polished and satin-finish case, sunburst blue dial and brightly polished hands. Every component is flawlessly finished and worthy to be part of the supremely elegant Portugieser collection.

For the first time in its 10-plus-year history, this Portugieser Yacht Club boasts a steel bracelet rather than a rubber or leather strap — a sturdy but elegant IWC steel bracelet with brushed outer links and polished inner links. Shortening the bracelet involves simply pressing a button on the back of each row of sturdy links to remove it. Unlike simpler bracelet designs, using screws or hammering is not needed.

Inside the safety folding clasp, there is also a quick extension piece that quickly and easily lengthens the bracelet by up to 7 mm. Pressing the polished “IWC” button on the outer bar of the clasp extends the bracelet in seven increments — without ever removing the watch from your wrist. Two safety buttons round out the sturdy and well-designed folding clasp.

Detailed Modifications In addition to the bracelet, the dial has also been updated. The central chronograph hand is now steel-gray instead of red, and the date window has been shifted from the 3 o’clock position to the small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. Both changes enhance the elegance of the Yacht Club and were well received by our editorial staff.

The elegant impression is diminished, however, by the enlargement of the already considerable stainless-steel case from 43.5 mm to 44.6 mm. Our editorial staff admitted that no one among them had a wrist to match its substantial dimensions.

Even so, the large, heavy watch is quite comfortable to wear thanks to ergonomically shaped sloping lugs and a supple steel bracelet. Unfortunately, the flexibility and adjustability of the IWC’s bracelet results in relatively large gaps between the links, which can catch and pull hair.

Proven Technology Components taken from earlier generations of the Yacht Club include the sturdy and powerful in-house movement, Caliber 89361, with many excellent features like a 68-hour power reserve; a traditional column-wheel control mechanism; the brand’s own exceptionally efficient Pellaton dual-pawl winding system; a free-sprung, temperature-resistant Glucydur balance wheel; and a flyback function for the direct restarting of the running chronograph. It can also show off beautiful decorative finishes, gold-enhanced engraving and a gold IWC medallion on the skeletonized oscillating rotor. Another feature of the in-house movement is the combined 12-hour and 60-minute counter in the upper half of the dial, which is intended to show elapsed time intuitively, as on a clock. The combined counter is too small for everyday use, however, and its markings are too fine to read elapsed time to the minute quickly and easily. The chronograph seconds track around the dial is also extremely fine, and the central chronograph seconds hand is insufficiently long to fully reach it. In sum, it’s a mixed bag, with clearly legible time and date, and elapsed time that is much more difficult to read.

Accurate Rate Our rate test revealed more about the Swiss movement. The electronic timing machine showed a negligibly small daily rate of +0.8 seconds, a maximum deviation between the positions of only 4 seconds and almost the same values when the chronograph is engaged. A two-week wearing test confirmed the small daily deviation with values between zero and +2 seconds — making our test watch a reliable partner for everyday use.

In addition to the movement, another feature of the Yacht Club that hasn’t changed arouses mixed feelings — the pressure resistance of six bar that corresponds to water pressure at a depth of 60 meters. Although this may sound like a lot at first, the water resistance as it is tested under laboratory conditions is rather low for a nautical luxury sports watch linked to the world of sailing. Coming in contact with spray or waves means a watch should be resistant to at least 10 bar or 100 meters to ensure a certain degree of security in a variety of different environments. And even though this still isn’t a lot, it is the current standard for any water sports watch not explicitly designed for diving.

Advice for boat owners is simply this: it’s better to wear this watch in the evening, below deck, or to dinner at the marina, and either take it easy onboard during the day or rely on a sports watch that is clearly defined as such. The new Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph is well equipped for normal everyday wear and light sports activities — and is the perfect gentleman sailor for social events on or below deck.

SCORES: Strap and clasp (max. 10 points): Very attractive, highly functional stainless-steel bracelet with safety folding clasp and quick extension. Large gaps between links. 9 ­­­ Operation (5): Generously sized, smoothly operating pushers are easier to use than the screw-down crown. The large crown is easy to turn but needs some force to pull out. The chronograph has a flyback function for direct restart of an ongoing timing sequence. 4 Case (10): The case is beautifully finished but is rather simple and water resistant to only 60 meters. 8 Design (15): Attractive combination of sportiness and elegance. The superior quality of every component is easily apparent. 14 Legibility (5): The time and date are both easy to read, but elapsed time presents more difficulty. Beautiful execution of details. Good to see that IWC decided to upgrade the Portugieser from quasigirly watch to man-sized. It’s hardly an Arni watch though.

I would buy this watch in a second (no pun intended) except for the high price. As for the increased diameter, I have a large wrist and do not buy watches less than 43 mm. Smaller diameters look terrible on me. If you need a large diameter watch reviewer, let me know. Thanks.

Two big problems for me. The size (too big), very few people have wrist size like Arni, water tightness 60m is a joke.

I really like this IWC watch, however, it’s shallow water resistance at the price, is a non-starter. IWC is certainly capable of increasing the water resistance range.

I always enjoy my Watchtime magazine when it arrives, and the email updates. Regarding IWC’s new Yacht Club, I think it is a beautiful watch. I have a large wrist, so, I will not wear a watch under 43mm. Smaller watches look too small. I do have trouble with the 60 meter water resistance, but find myself looking at this watch over and over in your magazine. That is when I know I want it. Hope to order one in the near future.

Not content to release a swathe of newly rebranded Portugiesers at SIHH, IWC have added a world time complication to the sporty Portugieser Yacht Club.

To date the Yacht Club name has been attached to sporty chronograph versions of the Portugieser, with rubber straps and added crown guards. The Yacht Club Worldtimer brings something new to the table – a world time complication.

Now, perhaps a world time complication isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think about sporty-nautical (totally a thing), but it kind-of makes sense. If you’re the sort of well-heeled yachtie who drops 13 large on a steel sports watch that can’t even handle a proper dip in the ocean (only 6 bar water resistance), you’re probably the sort of sailor with who has concerns that extend beyond the horizon-line. And it’s good to know that IWC has the key idle-rich globetrotting sailor (can sailors globetrot?) demographic covered.

On the whole the watch is a solid package for fans of the world time complication. Though we do wonder why IWC felt the need to put this typically refined complication in the sporty Yacht Club line. But at least they didn’t put “Worldtimer” on the dial.

The Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer is the first Yacht Club with the Worldtimer feature. The dial shows current local time. Once set correctly, the 24-hour ring running around the dial enables the wearer to read off the time in all zones. To make it easier to tell the difference between daytime and night, the 24-hour ring is divided into black/white. The stainless steel Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer is limited to 500 pieces.

The Details

IWC’s Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer Stainless Steel (IW3266-02 (aka: IW326602)) was originally released in 2015. This watch features a automatic movement beating at a frequency of 28800 bph (4 Hz) to provide a 42-hour power reserve when fully wound.

The stainless steel case measures 45.4mm in diameter and roughly 14mm thick, with 22mm lug width. Portugieser Yacht Club Worldtimer

Portugieser is undoubtedly one of the most iconic series out of IWC’s product range.Named after two Portoguese businessman ordered the company to manufacture custom watches in early 1930s, the series kept it’s popularity successfully. Yacht Club is a series to the current Portugieser range.Started at early 1960s, the Yacht Club range recently revealed it’s latest member; Worldtimer.

As the model’s name speak for itself, IWC aimed frequent traveling users which are also interested in Yachting Theme. The watch comes with two case options. Stainless steel version is limited to 500pcs. And 18K rose gold version is limited to 100pcs. Only.

The case diameter is 45.4mm making the watch to be listed as oversize. Thickness is 14mm. Besides it’s large dimensions the watch wears comfortably on the wrist. However, I would still prefer a tad smaller.

The sapphire crystal is AR coated and the edges are slightly rounded to match with the case’s smooth lines. AR coating works like a charms making the crystal disappear at most angles however, the coating is quite prone to scratches. The case back features a beautiful engraving of world map divided via meridians. The watch has WR60M rating.

Yacht Clup Worldtimer is powered by IWC’s automatic caliber Ref. 35370. 35 jewelled movement offers 42h power reserve on fully wound position. Of course the most important function is Worldtimer. The hour hand moves in one hour intervals allowing the timezone to be read thru the Worldtimer bezel located around the dial.

The visibility of the dial is flawless thanks to it’s bigger size and successfully designed lay out. 

While the watch looks quite beautiful overall, in my opinion the most of the credit should be reserved by the strap.

The center side of the strap is rubber. The sides are covered with crocodile leather. Beside the stunning looks, this combo also boosts up the durability of the strap as well.

Apparently, IWC did another great job with the Yacht Clup Worldtimer. However, the massive sized case could be a deal breaker.

We suggest the brand’s Pilot Worldtimer model should also be considered while shopping.

Khabarovsk Krai occupies a long swathe of Russia's Pacific coastline, a full 2000 kilometers of it, going as far south as Sakhalin and north to Magadan Oblast . At nearly 800.000 km², it's Russias fourth largest province. In the north, taiga and tundra prevail, deciduous forests in the south, and swampy forests in the central areas around Nikolaevsk-on-Amur . As a testament to its size there are more than 50 thousand lakes to fish in, more rivers and streams than you would care to count, and several mountain ranges intersect the region, including the northern reaches of the Sikhote-Alin mountains shared with Primorsky krai. The highest point is Mount Bery, towering nearly in fact, three quarters of the area is occupied by mountains and plateaus.

The diversity of purely North animals like brown bear and sheer South representatives like Eastern softshell spiny turtle (Trionix) is backed by the legend that God would mix the rest of seeds and animals when somebody told him about missing spot on Earth.

One can encounter pine-tree and wild Far-Eastern grape which came definitely from the South. Its blue round berries with sour taste are cultivated in gardens to produce home wine.

Like Trionix many species are listed in the Red Book.

Aboriginal culture within small enclaves across the krai are Nanai, Ulchi, Manchur, Orochi, Udege, Negidal, Nivkhi, Evenki and varies in each settlement.

Khabarovsk is a major transportation hub for the entire Russian Far East and will likely be any visitor's first stop by either the Trans-Siberian Railway or via Khabarovsk's international airport ( KHV  IATA ).

From China there are two entrance routes: one begins on the border with the Heihe - Blagoveshchensk crossing point, the other from Fuyuan town on Amur river. Another possible way is one from Sakhalin, where international ferry operates between Russian Korsakov and Japan's Wakkanai . A one-night bus trip along the federal highway Vladivostok-Khabarovsk is an option for a traveller, if the train carriage by some odd reason is not preferable.

Fishing and hunting in the wild are the major attractions for local villagers, town and city dwellers as well as trekking routes to taiga plains and mountains untouched by humans are favourite activities for all sorts of tourists. Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk mountain bike clubs are all at it. Taiga forest roads are always abuzz with mosquitos in summer and the best seasons for visiting are May and September when the air is not so stifling and the sun is just warm. Winter attracts regional skiers and snowboarders to the ski bases "Holdomi" and "Amut Snow Lake" near Komsomolsk and "Spartak" slopes near Khabarovsk.

Local food follows traditional Russian cuisine featured with salted bracken, mushrooms, Korean and Chinese and even European dishes served in theme restaurants of two big cities. Don't forget to taste pancakes with a spoonful of linden, wildflower, buckweat honey or a season caviar stuffing.

Stay safe [ edit ]

Snakes and bears are rare attackers in the wild, lest provoked. More dangerous are infectious ticks which are active most of all in spring. Use spray against ticks.

Khabarovsk is the hub for regional air travel with important flights to Russian destinations Anadyr , Irkutsk , Krasnoyarsk , Magadan , Moscow , Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky , Yakutsk , and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk , as well as international flights to Niigata , Japan and to Seoul , Korea . There are no direct flights to/from the US .

The next major stops to the east on the Trans-Siberian Railway are Ussuriysk and Vladivostok ; to the west, Birobidzhan .

There is a regular ferry from Vanino (the terminus of the Baikal-Amur Mainline ) to Kholmsk , Sakhalin .
