Awesome time with Granville Island Boat Rental yesterday. We (group of 11) just walked in on a Thursday afternoon and they had boats ready for us. After a brief training video we were then instructed hands on regarding the operation of the boat. Even as a first time driver, this all put me at ease. Highly recommended. Definitely check these guys out when you're in town.

Generally it's a five star because it's what you make of it. It's convenient and simple because you don't need a boating license and viewing Vancouver and the mountains is great. My only knock on them is and like other companies is that to make price appealing they don't tell you the extra charges on the advertising. And in this case they upped our price going to a bigger boat not because I think a baby made us go up another person but before driving off we saw that there were none of the smallest boats available.

4.5 stars rounded up for the quick and efficient in and out service. One of the highlights of our trip to Vancouver B.C. was renting a boat and being out in the open ocean. It was quite an experience and one we won't soon forget. You do not need a boating license or prior boating experience to rent the boat. As long as you can follow directions, and speed limits and read a map you are good to go. They give you a quick video to watch to make sure you understand how to navigate the water and local landmarks. We had so much fun! We went 15 minutes over but they charged us for a half hour extra increment. We wished we took at least 4 hours so we could see more! It was nice to have the cell phone number to call them to extend our initial 2 hour rental time to 3 hours. We took our boat to Deep Cove but in retrospect it would have been nice to do a four hour rental and go a bit further. We paid $320 CAD for 3.5 hours which included gas, insurance, rental, etc. Pricey but worth it for a unique and fun adventure!

Who knew you could rent that motorboat you always wanted to drive, with zero boating experience other than a handful of canoeing and kayak adventures with kids? Totally awesome Vancouver sightseeing from the water, as long as you're not easily seasick. The water can be choppy (hold on!), the boat traffic can be huuuuge (think, threading the needle between massive container ships), and overall the experience is amazing. The folks at the rental cabin are helpful, full of information about the sights and the waterways, and will get you properly set up in a jiff. Just remember to show up for your rental appt 20 minutes early to get through the training and paperwork. For the cost of a standard dinner and a movie, you really can't beat this experience.

I wasn't sure if this would be a total tourist trap given it's location smack in the middle of Granville Island tourist traffic. But I was encouraged by positive Yelp reviews and it turned out to be one of the most fun things we did on our Vancouver vacation. Friendly service, nice boats, reasonble prices. I walked in to inquire about availability later that day, was told they had two boats available and if I wanted one I should reserve and pay, which I did. They were busy but took the time to answer questions and make sure everyone in the little office felt taken care of. When we came back at the appointed hour they reviewed the rental terms, went over the map, gave a safety briefing, and so on. There were 3 of us on a boat that could fit 5 so there was plenty of room. Note that none of the boats have an awning so make sure you bring a hat and sunscreen on a sunny day. They charge you for the gas you used when you return and they could gouge you on that but they don't. Our two hour weekday rental for a 17ft boat cost around US$125 including gas. Overall a great experience and one that I would definitely repeat.

I will start by saying that the actual experience of taking our own boat out on the water was beautiful. However, this place is a typical tourist trap and left us with a bad taste in our mouth. I felt the need to review so others are aware of the real costs. The sign says $45/hr for rentals but of course, there are no boats of that size available. Furthermore, the rate sheet shows the price per hour is for 1-3 hours. When I asked about renting for 1 hour, they said it was a 2 hour minimum. False advertising to show availability for 1 hour (you will probably want 2 hours anyway to have enough time but I felt that was blatantly false and misleading). Once the ride is finished, you are charged for fuel consumption although that is not mentioned anywhere in the discussion or initial paperwork (I'm sure it's in fine print somewhere). Always ask what the TOTAL cost is so they reveal any other fees. All in all, our rental was roughly $160 for 2 hours on the water ($55/hr for a medium boat, $10 for insurance, $30 for fuel). Also, something I found sketchy is that they have you sign paperwork and initial line items stating you have received instructions and are aware of safety measures before you actually are shown anything. I would encourage you to have them go through the checklist with you so you don't sign prior to actually receiving instruction. This way you can ensure all safety measures are covered and put the responsibility on them. We enjoyed our experience on the water and it was a view you won't get anywhere else. But the fact that they are so misleading led me to write this review.

Reserved a boat online and was stoked about going out the next day. Got a call in the morning saying they didn't have any boats to rent at that time. Disappointing booking system.

We originally booked a boat for the day the forest fire smoke reached Vancouver. No problem rescheduling and had an amazing evening boating around the city. The views are amazing and also without experience the boats are easy to drive. Bit scary to go full speed the first time, but you quickly get used to it. (Don't do what we did and go slow for a while, the ride is much more comfortable at higher speeds). Highly recommend renting a boat here!

Boating with friends!

friendly staff and boats are in a good condition, but: for a 1,5 hours tour with their 90 HP engine bayliner they charged me 76 CAD for the gas. When I came to their office after the tour to pay the bill I asked why the Price for the gas is that high. They just told me that here it is usually that pricy. To be honest: I'm a newbe as I got my boat license just two weeks ago; thus I have only little experience but I can compare - and this comparison gives me the feeling that the Granville Island Boat Rental (brief: GIBR) charges ways too much for the gas. But please form your own opinion: - the week before I rented a V6 220HP engine boat for 1 hour and was charged only 25 US$ for the gas. Rental location was in the US at Seattle area. - three days after I rented a 115 HP Malibu Tyee for 4 hours at Port Moody (near Indian Arm) and was charged only 46 CAD for the gas.

Can't beat this deal when in Vancouver on a sunny day. $75-$85 per hour depending on what boat you choose for the day. Great way to site see Stanley Park and the skyline from the water. Superior customer service, they were very thorough and patient to answer any questions you may have. Booked this twice now on the same day which is surprising considering how affordable the rentals are. Great for out of town travelers and an unforgettable experience.

My fiancée and I had a wonderful time on our recent voyage! The crew were very friendly and accommodating and even helped us with a last minute schedule change due to weather. We enjoyed learning a bit about sailing and can't wait to see all the photos they took for us!

We had the most beautiful day at sea for my boyfriend’s birthday surprise. Every detail was taken care of, and we appreciate all the magic moments the Captain provided throughout this special time. We could not have had a better time on our voyage. The Captain was incredibly friendly, very easygoing, and made the trip so comfortable. He was great at reading when we wanted to be alone just the two of us (it was our wedding anniversary), or when to step in and share some fun info about sailing or help us better enjoy ourselves. He even snapped some gorgeous photos of us, taught us about sailing, kept bringing drinks & snacks and was so accommodating when my husband spilled wine all over my shirt 😂 I already have and will continue to recommend this vessel & captain to everyone I know. They also accommodated a very last minute change of dates, which I could not have been more grateful for. 10/10!

The experience we had sailing was like no other. We had high expectations going into it, and our expectations where exceeded! The captain was super nice and helped us explore Vancouver for the first time. There is no better way to discover Vancouver in my opinion. 10/10 would highly recommend

It was amazing 5hrs. sailing trip with professional captain on Canada Birthday. The views along the way between Coal Harbor and Deep Cove were spectacular: full of mountains, pretty villages and cute seals. The captain is really friendly and serviceable, impressively. He taught me some basic of how to sailing. We had many great conversations while listened to my own playlists. Feeling relax with chill atmosphere, I felt like he was my old friend. On the way back, me and my girlfriend moved to sit at front. He carefully brought the blankets as well as plenty of foods and drinks to us. It was one of my best sailing trip ever.

It is a nice place to gather specially at the lounge The service and staff very good I like the river view The food is almost like all restaurants in Russia they serve different cuisine. Staring Russian appetizer till Asian dishes Presentation and taste amazing I consider it overpriced little bit

Good location. Nice views. Good choice of food and drinks. European and Asian menu. Nice service. Pricey enough.

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs.

Had a large group dinner here. Food was above average and service quite good. The real attraction is the view of Moscow from the river on a nice night. Great place for a larger group dinner.

WAYS TO GET HERE ..

Granville Island is easily accessible by car. It is located underneath Granville Bridge in downtown Vancouver and there are many sign posts for Granville Island throughout the city.If you are not sure of the area we recommend putting our address into google maps or click here for directions . Once on Granville Island there are many 3hr free parking spots and paid parking spots .

Both False Creek Ferries and the Aquabus Water Taxis run to and from Granville Island stopping at many locations downtown like Olympic Village, Stamps Landing, Plaza of Nations, Yaletown, David Lam, Hornby,under Burrard Bridge and the Maritime Museum. False Creek Ferries stops right outside our office and The Aquabus stops right behind the market.

Biking to Granville Island is easy, you can get here along all main car routes or by the bike path along False Creek. If you are looking to cross the water with your bike the Aquabus has a bike friendly boat.There are many bike racks to securely lock up on Granville Island .

Granville Island can be reached on foot by the seaside walk from either False Creek or Kitsilano Beach area.Coming from downtown just walk to one of the many ferry docks and hop on either False Creek Ferries or the Aquabus which takes you right to Granville Island.

The #50 False Creek bus frequently comes from downtown along Granville Street and stops at Startbucks outside Granville Island.Also just before Granville Bridge at Granville & 5th there is an interchange of many bus routes and it is just a 10 minute walk to our location on Granville Island .

DIRECTIONS TO OUR OFFICE ..

Granville Island Boat Rentals is located at 1696 Duranleau Street, Granville Island. Our office is floating on the water next to the False Creek Ferries dock.

Once you are on Granville Island make your way towards the front of Bridges Restaurant (the big yellow building) which is located across from the Granville Island Market. Once outside Bridges Restaurant look to your right towards Burrard Bridge you will see a ramp which leads down to the water and the ferry dock.

Take this ramp down to the water, once down the ramp you will see Granville Island Boat Rentals floating office on your left. Both free and paid parking is available throughout Granville Island.
