Lil Yachty Braids: The Complete Guide for This Rapper’s Hairstyles

Lil Yachty braids are as unique and individualistic as the rapper himself. Since the day he arrived on the hip-hop scene with songs like “One Night”, “Minnesota”, and “Broccoli”, people have been impressed with his braids.

After achieving mainstream popularity, he has not gone for any style other than braids. Just think about him and you would find that you can’t imagine Lil Yachty without braids.

Even with his braids, he has not experimented too many times. However, there are a couple of braids styles that he has tried out.

Each one of these Lil Yachty hairstyles has been absolute bangers, just like his music. He brings some interesting twists on his braids that make them stand apart from the rest.

In this article, we will break down these amazing styles and talk about them in detail. So, read till the end to learn about the best braids styles of Lil Yachty.

Table of Contents

Lil Yachty Red Braids

Red braids with beads, lil yachty black braids, braids with bandana, french braids, braided pigtails, tied beads on the sides, loose top knot, multi-colored beads, frequently asked questions, final words, 9 exciting lil yachty braids styles you should try.

We have picked and compiled 9 of the most stunning braids styles of Lil Yachty for you. Go through this list to find out which style you vibe with the most.

Lil Yachty Red Braids

Red braids have been the signature Lil Yachty hairstyle throughout his career. Even before he became a rapper or even had braids, he used to dye his hair red as a young man.

This red color has been a constant companion in his journey. Maybe that’s why for a long period of time we haven’t seen him with any other hair color. However, if I were you, I wouldn’t necessarily dye my hair red and would choose another color that’s more meaningful to me.

As for braiding your hair, you can go for simple box braids. I’d also recommend the two strand twist or three strand twist styles if your hair is still too short for braids.

Red Braids With Beads

This one is the Lil Yachty braids style. Without a doubt, this is his most widely recognized hairstyle. It’s probably the one Lil Yachty hairstyle you were aware of even before you started reading this article.

You should dye your hair before you start braiding if you want to keep it colored for a long time. If it’s a short-term commitment, then you can first braid your hair and then use a temporary hair color spray.

Lil Yachty also keeps his braids thin and has a good number of them. So, you have to divide your hair into many sections. When you are done braiding all the sections, you can attach the beads. Lil Yachty usually prefers transparent beads.

Lil Yachty Black Braids

The Lil Yachty black braids style surprised a lot of people when he first appeared with it. They were just shocked that he had finally ditched the red color and went with his natural hair color.

He again surprised his fans when he attached diamond beads to his black braids. I am very much aware that it’s not a viable option for most people. You can just attach white beads if you want as that would create a cool contrast.

Lil Yachty also went for thicker braids this time. They were lesser in number as well. So, you won’t have to create that many sections for this one.

Braids With Bandana

Lil Yachty seems to be a huge fan of bandanas. Back when he had red braids and even now, he seems to wear a bandana pretty frequently. It actually makes sense because wearing a bandana is one of the easiest ways of making your braids more striking.

There are two ways he styles his braids with a bandana. One is when he wears it just over his braids. Then, the braids come out from underneath the bandana.

The other style is when he wears it higher and lets a couple of his braids stick out from the top of the bandana. He has tried beads with both of these styles as well.

French Braids

If you are looking for Lil Yachty without braids, this style is the closest thing you will find. This is unlike any other Lil Yachty braids styles and he pulls it off really well.

To get this style, you only need to have two long braids. First, you have to create a partition straight down the middle. Then, you need two braids at the front. Both braids will start from the partition, go sideways, go halfway around your head and then fall at the back.

I would also keep my front hairline tidy and crisp for this style. The rest of that hair that’s not braided should be slick and close to the scalp.

Braided Pigtails

This is a unique Lil Yachty hairstyle that he has come up with just by tying up his braids in a certain way. I can’t be entirely sure if he intentionally wanted to create a pigtail-inspired style. But, the style certainly looks like that.

You have to create a middle partition for this style as well. Then, you have to take all the braids from one side and tie them up on that side of your head. Do the same for the other side as well.

There will be a couple of loose braids at the front and the back of your head. Also, this style works better with beads because then it has more texture and character.

Tied Beads On The Sides

You have to attach beads to your braids for this style. Beads are necessary to create this distinct look. Also, make sure that there are 4-5 beads for each braid.

You have to create a middle partition to begin. Then, you have to create scalp braids that go sideways. Just like French braids, these braids will go from the partition to the opposite side of your head.

Finally, you have to take all your braids from one side and tie them together, kind of like the pigtail style. But, you have to tie them in a way so that only the beads are dangling from both sides.

Loose Top Knot

This Lil Yachty braids style is really easy to get. Despite being a simple style, it actually is quite impactful and can give you an attractive look.

It is basically a top knot style where you take all of your hair and tie them right at the top of your head. But, you would not tie all your braids for this style.

Few braids need to be free. Lil Yachty styles it in a way that there are loose braids on the sides and the back. If you want, you can let a few of them fall from the front to your forehead.

Multi Colored Beads

This is the last Lil Yachty braids style on my list. This one includes beads as well. For this style, it’s better if you have thin braids and there are a lot of them.

The more braids you have, the better you will look. Also, the braids need to be longer. At the end of each braid, you will attach multiple beads and they will be of different colors.

You can just create a middle partition and let these colorful beads hang down from both sides. Feel free to choose any color you want.

We have already mentioned how popular Lil Yachty braids are. So, it’s not a surprise that there are tons of questions that are frequently asked about his braids. We’ll answer a few of them in this section.

How to get Lil Yachty Braids?

Well, you have seen from the list that there are a couple of Lil Yachty braids styles you can choose from. But, most of them include box braids and attaching beads to your braids. Check out this video to have a basic idea of how to braid your hair and attach beads.

Why did Lil Yachty ditch his red braids?

Lil Yachty has stopped dying his braids red, which he was doing for a long time. He said in an interview that dying his hair frequently was actually damaging his hair a lot. That’s why he stopped doing it before his hair got severely and irreparably damaged.

Through this article, I have shown you the best braided hairstyles of Lil Yachty. It is now up to you to decide which styles you want to adopt.

When you have braids, you have to be extra careful about maintenance. You can’t avoid providing the care that your braids need. I have a few suggestions that you can follow.

You must avoid making your braids too tight. If your braids are too tight, that can seriously damage your hair and might even cause permanent hair loss.

You also have to regularly hydrate and moisturize your scalp. Oiling your scalp is also a very positive practice. However, whatever moisturizer or oil you are using, make sure that those suit your hair and scalp.

Finally, sleep on a silk or satin surface. Also, wear a durag while sleeping to keep your braids fresh. Just follow these recommendations and rock your Lil Yachty inspired braids with confidence.

Barber Stylist Breaks Down 9 Iconic Celebrity Braid Styles

Released on 07/07/2023

What's up GQ?

I'm Lisa Torres.

I'm a barber stylist and hair expert

and today we're gonna break down

some of the most iconic celebrity braid hairstyles.

[upbeat music]

A$AP Rocky is very well known for having box braids.

It's a style that was very popular in the nineties

and it's extremely relevant today.

A box braid essentially is known for having a square parting

and the hair is braided directly off of it.

A lot of people like to wear it in a ponytail.

They like to wear it in their face.

Very, very popular amongst men and women.

Depending on the amount of braids you want and the size,

they can be anywhere from an hour to like eight hours.

I think this style on A$AP, it looks really good.

It's very stylish, a phenomenal hairstyle for most people

and it looks great on him.

It's funny how I feel like not everyone can pull off

wearing letters in their hair,

but I feel like the way he does this, that he makes sure

that he brings the culture of the streets into fashion.

I think I like the G in the back of his head better

just because since it's bigger, it makes it easier

for the the braider to create the actual shape.

When it's small, it's a little trickier.

I think that he has a great face and head shape

if he ever decided to not have braids,

but I don't think anybody in the world

could imagine him without braids.

So Travis Scott, who is also very well known

for having box braids, he wears them a little different.

He has the hairline taper

which is essentially that you take the hair

that would make up the front hairline

and it's shaved off to match the hair on the side

with a small island of long hair where it's braided.

And he likes to wear big box braids.

So that's more like jumbo box braids.

So, this haircut suits him really well

because he loves to wear his braids in his face

and it's really easy for him to move around,

like the rock star that he is.

I'm team all-black, but that might be a little bit of a bias

because styles come and go.

So right now, I think I'm leaning more

towards the natural hairstyle, natural hair color.

Lil Yachty is very well known

for having these bright red, small box braids with the beads

and I think it was a really cool hairstyle.

It was a really cool way to bring it back

to the younger demographic.

So, to put these beads on the braids,

you have to use a special tool.

It kinda looks like a giant needle.

You kinda fill it up with the beads

and then the opening, you put the braid in

and then you slide the beads up into the braid.

Now that it's been a couple years,

I feel like this style has aged well.

I feel like when he did it, it was more simple.

So nowadays, the beads tend to be more intricate,

more colorful, but it held the test of time

and people are still getting beads on their hair.

So for the hairstyle that's on the right,

she has jumbo box braids.

And then for the style on the left,

she has small box braids.

They're not considered micro, but they're pretty small.

There's a lot of them there.

But for the jumbo box braids,

this is like a super easy hairstyle.

It looked like she could have some extensions,

but as you can see it's harder to tell.

It blends in very well with her natural hair.

It's a cute, more like, natural look.

I feel like it's definitely doable to wear braids,

straight backs, extensions, all of that

with a beautiful gown.

This one is super beautiful.

The one thing about braids that most people

who aren't in the hair world or may not be as exposed to

is to understand how beautiful and elegant braids can be.

So Nipsey Hussle is very well known

for his simple four braid straight backs.

They're considered like a variation of a straight back.

The lines and the partings are essentially straight back,

but the braid in the front,

instead of starting in the middle, starts at a point.

And this is why this specific style is called

the Nipsey braids because they have that specific element.

Cornrows and straight backs tend to come off

as the same thing,

but a straight back is essentially

the braid is starting from the front of the head

and it's going only straight back to the back of the head,

whereas a cornrow could either be starting in the middle,

coming off to the side

or even a design can be considered a cornrow.

It's just the hair being braided on the head.

He definitely popularized it because he was so consistent.

And I don't even think, other than two braids,

I've ever seen him wear any other hairstyle.

I think that when Drake got braids, it shocked the world,

but I think that he did it the best way.

He has a phenomenal braider

and he also kept his braids very simple.

And I think that testing the waters when you're not sure

if braids are gonna look good on you,

always start with something simple

and work your way up to more complicated, intricate styles.

The two braids on Drake looks the most stylish.

The four and six braids tend to blend in

and look a little normal on him, but the two braids...

Because he specifically got them,

like on the crown of his head

and the super sleek sleekness of it is different.

Like people aren't doing that right now.

It's like the Snoop Dogg braids,

but nobody's thinking Snoop Dogg.

They're thinking Drake, like, Wow, they look great on you

with two braids.

I think it goes further for him.

So Pop Smoke has cornrows

and he popularized the starting from the middle,

bringing it to the side and off the head.

Some people don't know if they should call this a box braid

which is often a question,

but this is a cornrow for sure.

This hairstyle looks really good on him

because he also kinda has, like a small face.

So to bring the braids down,

it kinda creates like a face frame a little bit

and, like, elongates his face.

It's just designed to work for him

and the popularity behind it made it iconic.

Most people when they think of Rihanna's braids,

they think of the Fulani braids

which is the hair being braided on the scalp,

cornrowed essentially up to like about half the head,

and then the hair in the back is box braids

which are off the head.

So most people like her braids

when it comes to the Fulani style

just because they're more wearable

and not too many people actually rock it

in the celebrity world.

So who doesn't know Iverson braids?

He's very famous for having designs.

Designs that specifically have many braids in them.

The zigzag braids, the fishbone braids.

He was beyond iconic for his style

and everything that he's done is relevant today

and I think will be relevant tomorrow.

All right guys, well that's all we have for today,

and if there's anyone that we missed,

make sure that you put it in the comments below

and maybe we'll get to them next time.

Avid writer on Men's Hair, Grooming, and Lifestyle!

Lil Yachty Braids

Red braids, hair jewellery and multiple protective styles would explain why the Lil Yachty Braids topic became an area of interest and intrigue throughout his career.

The impact of his red braids was evident as he was able to brand, market and position himself separate from his peers who were also widely growing in popularity during the SoundCloud era.

Sounding the same and looking the same are sins in Hip Hop therefore its common to see artists get creative with their image, even if that means dying their hair!

Our editorial highlights some of the best Lil Yachty hair moments from his signature red braids, cornrows, and afro puffs.

Lil Yachty Braids Gallery

Signature red braids.

Lil Yachty had his hair coloured red and placed his hair in multiple protective styles to brand himself and it worked!

lil yachty braids in red dye

From the moment we were introduced to Yachty he kept his hair in red only changing back to his natural hair colour in recent years.

Whilst his hair was red it was styled in multiple ways as the images showcase but this also became stressful on his hair, In Yachty’s own words,

red braids

“Honestly, it was hard to maintain,” he said in an interview with Danny Schwartz.

“The bleach was literally killing my hair. My hair was just dying. It’s growing now. That’s all. It’s just hair. I just kept it red because I loved it. But it kept falling out. It never would grow.”

Having reverted to his natural hair colour for hair health reasons we saw Yachty continue the same braided styles whilst keeping his beads on the ends, I mean some things just don’t change right?

This style has been a favourite amongst different rappers with braids for years!

2 Big Braids

Another popular protective style from Yachty were his 2 big braids which he often wore during interviews, photoshoots, and music videos.

2 big braids

Due to it being a protective style it enabled him minimal manipulation and styling allowing for other important things to get done and let’s face it, when you’re a rap superstar you don’t want to be thinking about your hair all day, you’ve got deals to sort out, music to create and tours to go on!!

How to Maintain your Braids!

Having braids installed is a great feeling as it gives you a new look and confidence. To ensure you maximise your hairs lifeline it’s imperative the proper care and maintenance is applied to your braids. We have provided some tips below to ensure that they stay neat, tidy and clean.

Make sure Braids aren’t too tight

If you experience the pain of tight braids, this is your body informing you they need to be loosened or redone. Not only do tight braids damage your hair but you increase your chances of getting braid bumps and infected follicles which we want to avoid. This could lead to temporary or permanent hair loss, something we want to avoid of course!

Moisturize your scalp

We like to explain it like this, your scalp is an extension of your skin, and therefore it requires hydration and care. A good moisturizing routine helps it keep your hair bouncy, defined and healthy, but most important not dry. Find one best suited for your hair type.

Oil your Scalp

We mostly forget to apply oil on our scalp as were too busy focusing on the ends and length, yet it’s our scalp that hair grows from, therefore an oil routine is super important and non-negotiable.

Protect your hair while sleeping with a Durag

The main purpose of Du-rags and head wraps is to prevent stray hairs from becoming loose or tangled which creates the messy look. Protecting your hair at night keeps it in check.

Ensure you take your Hair out every 6 Weeks

As we mentioned before you’re going to have to ensure you let your hair breathe, then washed and it’s been advised for years that the 6 week mark is the sweet spot.

This is nothing short of good hygiene! Your hair has been exposed to multiple layers of dirt and environmental factors which requires up keep! Wash days are your best friend and it will repay you which shiny, clean hair.

Lil Yachty Shows Off New Hair Style

Lil Yachty isn't waiting for the new year to show off his new self, taking to Instagram Live on Monday (Dec. 19) to show off a new hair style. As seen in the above video, Yachty has let his signature braids and beads go, his red locks still as colorful as ever.

"See this right here? The James Brown look, you know?," he says. "I’m working on my album. This look means seriousness. This hair do means hits. And to Funkmaster Flex this means a lot of mumble rap." Jay Z was known to miss the barber's seat whenever he was in album mode, Yachty likewise switching his style up.

In November, Yachty said of recording his debut album, “I have so many amazing songs that we never put out. But we’ve been on tour, and I keep trying to record on tour but I keep losing my voice. And it’s just hard for me to record, 100 percent. So once I get off tour on the 18th, we’re really just gonna lock in and just start completely fresh. So there’s no songs: we’re really just gonna make it in three or four weeks.”

As for his Funk Flex remarks, the Hot 97 DJ called Yachty out by name recently during an on-air screed against mumble rappers. Yachty responded via Twitter, writing, “If it ain’t one hot 97 dj it’s another lmao.” Earlier in the year, Yachty and Ebro had exchanged words over Yachty's rapping ability.

Lil Yachty Hair:  Are His Braids Real, Or Does He Wear A Wig?

Lil Yachty’s braids have become integral to his unique image as a rapper. Fans have been captivated not only by his music but also by his distinct hairstyle.

Lil Yachty Chats Braids, Body Wash, and Being Yourself

Jennifer Ryan Jones

It’s important to stay fresh under fire and to handle your business with confidence.

Pro basketball player Brandon Armstrong, YouTuber Markiplier, recording artist Danny Ocean, and rapper Lil Yachty make up the “Gold Squad,” a team of cultural insiders across gaming, music, and sports representing the new AXE Gold collection, a new scent that includes body washes, sprays, and deodorants.

“My music is all about staying positive and being yourself,” says Lil Yachty. “We’re all gold, but it’s hard to always remember that when the pressure’s on. This project with AXE is about staying fresh when the pressure is heavy. Forget the naysayers and own it.”

  • How to Manscape: Tips and Tricks for Taking Care of Body Hair

We caught up with Lil Boat and asked for some of his tips grooming greatness.

The Manual: Can you give us the backstory on your signature red braids?

LY: In grade, I braided my hair because I wanted to look like Kris Kross , this old rap hip-hop group that had braids with colorful rubber bands. My hair was short, so I did two strand twists. And then it grew, and I just wore braids, just braids. And then they grew real long. They were black at the time. When I got a job offer at McDonald’s my mom wanted me to be so presentable, so she made me cut my hair. So that was real sad. I cut my hair. And then she saw I was so sad because my hair was the only thing keeping me different, so then she was like well why don’t you dye it red? So I dyed it red, and it’s been red ever since eleventh grade.

TM: How do you take care of it?

LY:  Shit, I don’t. My shit fell out. It grew back. But, nah, I’m on the road a lot. The bleaching and the heat takes a toll on my hair. So, I try to do what I can. But honestly, I don’t do what I should do. It’s sad but it’s true. When I get braided I get it washed, deep conditioned, I put oils in it and all that good stuff. I get it braided like once a week if I can get to a stylist.

TM: Who braids it? Do you have a go-to stylist?

LY:  I go to the same lady at home. I’ve been going to her since high school.

TM: There’s a rumor going around the internet that your braids are insured?

“You gotta stay fresh. When you smell good, you feel good. When you look good, you feel good.”

LY:  No, that’s not true, they fell out before and no one paid me for it.

TM: Do you shave? And how often?

LY:  My face, as soon as I see an inch of hair . I try to keep a baby face. My facial hair grows, I just try to keep it low.

TM: Do you have a favorite shaving product?

LY:  I don’t shave myself. I have a barber. He doesn’t actually shave it. He uses clippers .

TM: Do you use moisturizer on your face?

LY:  Yeah, I like to use moisturizer . I don’t travel with any, and I’ve been kind of iffy with hotel lotion. So, I don’t do it much because I’m never really home. But I like to make my skin look very smooth and chocolatey.

TM: What about your tattoos? How do you take care of them?

LY:  I’m gonna come clean. I probably put something on there one time. You’re making me feel bad.

TM: Sorry! Let’s make you feel good. How does AXE Gold give you dating confidence?

LY:  Smelling good is key important. Have you ever been on a date and someone just didn’t smell too good? It’s not the best, right? It’s like a deal breaker, especially on the first date. You gotta stay fresh. When you smell good, you feel good. When you look good, you feel good. All these key elements add up to making someone feel gold. When you feel gold, you feel good. Then you pretty much are good and can’t anybody say otherwise.

TM: Tell me about your personal style?

LY:  I have my own style. I like throwback looks a lot. I like the 90’s. I like colors and baggy jeans. I like what I like.

TM: What is your favorite city to shop

LY:  LA. But I haven’t been to Japan yet. I can’t wait to go.

Jennifer Ryan Jones

There are simple things each man can do in order to maintain his best self-image. One of the easiest is making sure your grooming routine is in check, and the best place to start is your haircare routine. Finding one of the best hair creams for men can add a ton of quality and value to your grooming routine and overall appearance.

Every guy can make use of an effective hair styling cream, even if they think their hair is too frizzy or unruly to be properly tamed. Unlike pomades or gels, hair styling creams often have a more matte finish and provide flexible control rather than an ultra sleek, slicked-back look (although there's a time and place for that hairstyle, too); in which pomades or gels are best.

As daily tasks go, you might not think much about shaving. A tedious necessity, maybe, but not something that many people devote much time or interest to. But shaving doesn't have to be a dull affair of an electric shaver mindlessly passed over your face. There's something special about a shave with a straight razor, which most people only experience occasionally at the barber shop, if at all.

But it needn't be that way. You can learn the art of shaving with a straight razor and experience both the pleasant feeling of freshly shaved skin and the satisfaction of learning a new skill.

For a classic and casual look for your facial hair, stubble is a great option for all sorts of face shapes and ages. It's also, rather handily, one of the easiest looks to maintain. But easy maintenance doesn't mean no maintenance, and if you want to look your best then you shouldn't skip on taking care of your stubble and your skin.

Stubble is a good choice if you're impatient for your beard to grow or if regular shaving is causing havoc to your skin. And with a little work to keep it neat and tidy, stubble can be an attractive and fresh look. We've rounded up a handful of tips to have your stubble looking its best. Cleanse and exfoliate

This trend has continued to grow, and many rappers still consider braids to be an essential part of their style. With a variety of options in braid styles to choose from, one can always find a style that suits their personality.

Q2. Can I style my hair in braids like Snoop Dogg?

Snoop Dogg is known for his iconic braids, and his style has inspired many people. Styling hair in braids like Snoop Dogg’s can be achieved with the right tools, products, and a little bit of practice. Depending on the length of one’s hair, the style can be applied in different ways. However, it’s essential to take hair type into consideration when styling braids. Protective styling can be beneficial to hair growth, and braids offer an excellent option for achieving that.

Q3. What is the maximum duration for wearing braids?

The maximum duration for wearing braids varies from person to person. It depends on how fast the hair grows and scalp sensitivity . Some individuals wear braids for months, while others only keep them for a few weeks. Prolonged wearing of braids can lead to hair damage or breakage, especially if they’re not well-maintained. To prevent this, it is essential to remove braids periodically and allow the hair to rest before installing a new set.

Q4. Do braids promote or hinder hair growth?

Braids have been known to promote hair growth, as they are a form of protective styling. Protective styles like braids allow hair to rest and can protect it from harsh environmental factors like heat and humidity. However, if braids are too tight or done improperly, this protective style could backfire and cause hair loss or damage. It is essential to handle hair gently and avoid over-tightening the braids.

Q5. Which rapper is most known for sporting braids?

Pop Smoke, born Bashar Barakah Jackson, emerged as a rising star in the hip-hop world with a magnetic presence and a unique musical style that blended drill, rap, and trap. Yet, beyond his musical prowess, Pop Smoke became a trendsetter, notably for his signature hairstyle—elaborate braids often styled in intricate patterns.

The hairstyle is also known as tribal or jumbo feed-in braids with a middle part. You can either recreate it with your natural hair or add extensions for length and volume. And as hairstylists all over the world keep exploring their creativity, new ways to rock this coiffure keep popping up every day.

This hairstyle, like any other cornrow, can last anywhere from six to eight weeks, depending on the natural texture of your hair, your hair type, and the method used to braid it.

But to ensure your hair stays in place while you sleep, wear a satin scarf at all times if you plan to keep this hairstyle for at least a month. Also, apply some foaming mousse to your braids at least once a week to keep your hair looking fresh. Then apply some edge control gel around your edges for a fresh new look.

Yes, It is totally fine to wash your hair while wearing pop smoke braids. However, it is advisable to wait at least four weeks to wash your braids because the hair tends to frizz easily.

To reduce the chance of frizzing up the style, use a dry shampoo and apply it only to the scalp when you do decide to wash your hair. If you choose to clean your braids with conventional shampoo, massage the braids gently with your fingertips and apply all of the shampoo to the scalp. After rinsing, follow up with a conditioner or conditioning spray to bring back the moisture and shine to the look.

Do Pop Smoke Braids Damage Your Edges?

Picture of a lady showing off her extra large pop smoke braids

Pop Smoke braids feature cornrows that sit close to your edges. Hence, improper installation can damage your edges because the style places a lot of stress and strain on the hairline.

To avoid this, ensure the stylist installing your braids does not place them too tightly. This is because too much tension can tug on your baby hair and cause them to break off. Also, when taking out your braids, remove the hair around your edges gently, since this is where most people make the error of pulling too hard and ripping out the delicate hairs.

The hip-hop culture is an embodiment of several components and facets coming together to create a unique culture that represents a set of people. Of all these components and facets, fashion remains an integral part of it.

Also, unarguably, although hip-hop synthesises several artistic, musical and cultural intricacies and nuances, it is still a fact that hip-hop (by virtue of its history and current practises) was birthed by black culture and still remains black culture.

As complex, vast, and dynamic as black culture is, historically, we can trace back the origin of braids to Africa and the black race.

Black American history also reminds us of how braids were frequently used by black slaves on the plantation to relay messages between themselves, plan, signal, and map out escape routes, and even used to keep gold and seeds to help them survive the tough life after they would run away from their masters.

That being said, it is very unsurprising (even necessary) that braids have found their way not just into hip-hop/rap but also into pop culture. As a way of identifying with their ancestral roots and history as a people, a lot of black and even white rappers have decided to stick with braids.

This is not an article on African or African-American fashion or a historical article on slavery, rather, this is a simple article that seeks to bring to you the 20 most popular rappers with braids.

If you are a fan of this hairstyle, regardless of the colour of your skin, it just makes sense that you know these rappers who also love what you love.

Even if you are not a fan of braids, it still makes sense that you know these rappers, the same way you know rappers with nose rings, without tattoos, with tattoos, etc. It doesn’t exactly have to hold any significance—-just know these rappers.

LONDON – Tired of inflated ticket prices, recording artist Yungblud is launching his own affordable music festival.

Bludfest takes place on Aug. 11 in the iconic Milton Keynes Bowl, which in the past has hosted the likes of David Bowie and Green Day in Buckinghamshire, England, northwest of London.

Recommended Videos

Yungblud, whose real name is Dom Harrison, thinks that currently festivals are “unrepresentative of people” — so he’s fixing the price point of Bludfest at 49.50 pounds (around $63).

“It’s like massive ticket charges, massive prices that most of the time aren’t really going to the artist anyway,” he said of typical festival prices in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

He adds that music festivals are becoming inaccessible when really they should be about “having fun and making memories.”

Joining him on the bill are Lil Yachty, duo Soft Play, Nessa Barrett, Lola Young and Jazmin Bean. The Damned are also playing in an “icons” slot. Tickets for the event go on sale March 22.

Yungblud says he aims to make a “physical world” for him and his fanbase, and then “anyone else who wants to come along.”

The British star is also offering a “Make a Friend” option for fans attending alone. You can either chat before on a Discord channel, or go to the designated tent and meet people in person.

And he hopes to expand it out of the U.K. if it goes according to plan, taking the concept to different regions across the globe.

As well as Bludfest, Yungblud is also working on a new record, his fourth. In the past he’s written about darkness and depression, but says this one has a more positive tone.

“I’ve sung about the things that really hurt me in the beginning. And this new album flips over and it’s about the light. It’s about wanting to be alive and wanting to be with my friends and thinking I can get through it because these people have given me some hope,” he said.

And it’s not just his friends who give him hope — it’s also his fans.

“I really do have a strong faith in humanity in me because I see people every day and I see what they do for each other at my gigs,” he said.

Tired of inflated ticket prices, Yungblud is launching his own affordable music festival

Tired of inflated ticket prices, Yungblud is creating his own music festival, Bludfest, which he says will support unity and friendship, in the U.K’s Milton Keynes this summer. (Mar. 21)

LONDON (AP) — Tired of inflated ticket prices, recording artist Yungblud is launching his own affordable music festival.

Bludfest takes place on Aug. 11 in the iconic Milton Keynes Bowl, which in the past has hosted the likes of David Bowie and Green Day in Buckinghamshire, England, northwest of London.

J. Cole's Dreamville Festival is returning to North Carolina in April, and he's put together an all-star team to hit the stage alongside him this year.

Dreamville Fest 2024 announced its lineup of heavy hitters on Thursday (March 7), with SZA , Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown set to serve as headliners with J. Cole.

The anticipated fourth edition of the annual festival - which launched in 2018 - is set to take over Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7. Tickets are already on sale with a limited number of general admission passes still available for the two-day event.
