As we look ahead to the 2023 season, I can confirm that both the M CON Racing Team and Sudrheim Offshore Racing will be joining the series to give us an international field of eight boats with teams representing Australia, Sweden, Norway and, of course, the United States. The M CON team will compete in a fully branded Monster Energy boat. This new canopied Skater 438 catamaran is the first purpose-built Class 1 boat for more than a decade. Powerboat P1 USA Adds Nicandri To 2024 Marketing/Media Team

The powerhouse marketer and organizer formerly behind the Suncoast Powerboat Grand Prix—now the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix — in Southwest Florida, Lucy Nicandri is back in the offshore powerboat racing marketing and media-liaison business. Nicandri, who also will retain her longtime position as executive director of Sarasota-based Suncoast Charities for Children , has joined the Powerboat P1 USA team as its media and marketing officer.

“Lucy has done it for years and can do this job with her eyes closed, to be honest,” Azam Rangoonwala, the chief executive officer of United Kingdom-based Powerboat P1, told me yesterday during a late-afternoon meeting in his London office. “This not only includes ensuring that our events are marketed properly in the local markets but also liaising with the press and the teams to get as much coverage as possible through the season.”

As part of her role with Suncoast Charities, Nicandri managed much of the Sarasota event. The nonprofit organization stepped away from the races after the 2020 event, which meant Nicandri’s race-organizing and marketing responsibilities ended, and the Powerboat P1 team took over that role.

Not only does the longtime Sarasota local bring significant experience to her new position with Powerboat P1 USA, she is well known within the offshore racing community.

“I’m extremely happy to be involved, especially after helping to organize the Sarasota Grand Prix for more than 30 years as well as the Qatar Cup,” Nicandri said. “Of course, I will continue to work full-time as an executive director for Suncoast Charities for Children.

“As a subcontractor to P1, I look forward to working with all the teams, area convention and visitor bureaus, and various local and regional media markets—many of whom I have worked with for years—to expand awareness and coverage of the sport, race teams, and for all the P1 race sites in the coming year,” she added.

P1 SuperStock

P1 SuperStock Championship is based on racing identical production boats - the stunning P1 Panther - across a number of Grand Prix of the Sea events each season in the US, UK, India and Denmark. In developing the sport of powerboating at a grass roots level, Powerboat P1 is uniquely establishing P1 SuperStock as a national series of powerboating in a number of different countries.

The SuperStock race courses are close to shore, tight and fast, making it a great spectacle for the public and equally demanding on the drivers and navigators. Each event weekend sees the teams tackle up to four races lasting around 20 minutes each.

Each event is heavily promoted through the local Council and Tourist Board resulting in crowds lining the shore to watch the spectacular racing. International television coverage takes the action to more than 650 millions homes.

P1 AquaX is unlike any watercraft competition that’s gone before and is specifically geared towards attracting amateur riders to come and test their skills. Powerboat P1 is the company behind the AquaX series where our interest in personal watercraft competition is based on building a sport from the ground up.

Put simply, AquaX is an exciting coastal challenge that offers a completely new experience for watercraft enthusiasts. All of the events’ sea courses are simple and wide open giving competitors a chance to open up their throttles and enjoy the full performance of their craft in a safe and controlled environment. Because of the ever-changing coastal conditions, the rider’s skill always prevail over horsepower, thus creating great racing and a level playing field for all.

The AquaX racing is comprised of several heats over an event weekend with racers split into three categories – 200hp -250hp & 300hp – to accommodate the huge diversity in engine displacements. All craft may be modified, however four-stroke craft must remain stock as from the manufacturer. The runners and riders enjoy great camaraderie and this year’s AquaX has enjoyed grids of up to 25 competitors.

The P1 Marine Foundation was established in September 2010 with the aim of safeguarding and restoring the marine and coastal environment by raising awareness through education and effective partnerships for this generation and those to follow.

It's key aims are to develop initiatives that will benefit the marine environment by engaging with local and international audiences and raise public awareness via educational initiatives and programmes.

POWERBOAT P1 STRENGTHENS PRESENCE IN NORTH AMERICA

January 18, 2010, London: London-based, Powerboat P1 Management Ltd. announced today it plans to export its successful powerboat racing series to the United States with the formation of a North American subsidiary, Powerboat P1 USA.

"The United States market is critical to any multi-national company involved in motorsports marketing," said Asif Rangoonwala, Chairman of Powerboat P1. "We view participation in the USA as an essential element in our growth as a World Championship and as a business."

Powerboat P1 has spent the last two years in the US market developing awareness of the unique opportunities and format provided by Powerboat P1. Series organizers have also been researching possible racing venues to add to the Powerboat P1 World Championship, which has held events on three continents, all sanctioned by the international governing body, the Union Internationiale Motonautique (UIM).

With the recent evolution of powerboat racing in the USA, Powerboat P1 determined that its considerable resources and unique racing format could best be used to help refine the sport in North America, sanctioning with the USA representative to the UIM, the American Powerboat Association (APBA).

"The APBA represents 107 years of powerboat racing heritage, and is the oldest powerboat federation in the UIM," said Rangoonwala. "The APBA provides a high level of credibility to the sport, and we look forward to producing world class events with its sanctioning."

In December, APBA President, Mark Weber, hosted a meeting at the APBA headquarters in Eastpointe, MI, where he invited all of the US organizations to attend and discuss the future of the sport. The outcome was a positive exchange, where APBA expressed its desire to embrace offshore racing and bring the sport back together under a common national and internationally-recognized entity.

A central theme of the meeting included a sentiment that the autonomy and individual identities of the current racing series are important to maintain. However, the credibility and growth of the sport would still rely on a single governing body that can offer prestige and heritage, internationally-recognized records and titles, as well as APBA "Hall of Champions" recognition and speed record validation. Due to the size of the US market, the existing regional-based series' could operate under a single national authority [APBA], just as the individual national federations operate with the UIM as the international authority.

The Powerboat P1 USA events will build on the very effective "power to weight ratio" format that has been utilized throughout the European series. Initial plans for the P1 USA series include three v-bottom classes. Powerboat P1 USA would then represent a sub-set of other existing classes offered within the APBA offshore category, focusing on a limited number of classes for the Powerboat P1 USA Continental Championship.

The initial two-year plan includes intentions to work with the existing organizations in 2010 to more fully develop their regional races, laying the groundwork for joint productions of key race events in 2011. Powerboat P1 USA will also work on a focused marketing and promotional campaign to inform potential teams, venues and sponsors of the opportunities and value that a Powerboat P1 event generates on a global scale; but, stresses that it is striving for strong relationships with all of the current racing organizations and event producers.

"Powerboat P1 brings a respected level of professionalism to a series within the APBA," said Weber. "As an APBA sanctioned series, it will enhance the event value to local producers and to our current organizations."

"With strong regional organizations running their local series and hosting specific P1 USA series events, there's an opportunity for a genuine unification of the sport here that the vast majority of the racers support," said Powerboat P1 USA Director of North American Operations, Martin Sanborn. "APBA has been the backbone of powerboating in the US for over 100 years, and it represents the credibility and consistency that offshore powerboat racing needs to finally bring the sport together with common purpose and internationally-compatible rules," he added.

POWERBOAT P1 USA LAUNCHES P1 AQUAX JET SKI SERIES IN THE UNITED STATES

AquaX is open to all types of watercraft, with Yamaha, Kawasaki and BRP (Sea-Doo) models expected to race unmodified in three classes: 200, 250 and 300hp. Riders will earn 10 points for a superpole victory and 20 points for race win.

Running at the same time, the AquaX Cup is open to all, including those with modified craft falling outside the standard class structure, who want to experience the thrill of racing. The Cup is not a Championship class, so points or prize money will not be awarded. Its purpose is to acknowledge the overall winner of the race at each individual round.

Each two-day AquaX event will consist of three races: Superpole, a shorter qualifying race followed by two rallies where the focus switches to endurance riding and stamina over longer distances. The race tracks are wide open yet simple to navigate, and will be patrolled by trained race marshals to ensure safety at all times.

Much like the P1 SuperStock powerboat racing series, AquaX is designed to provide an accessible and affordable platform for motorsport enthusiasts and to help develop the sport of watercraft racing from the ground up. The Panther was engineered as a one-design race boat for the international Powerboat P1 SuperStock Championship Series.  There were 4 critical design criteria for the initial project:

Run near 70 mph with a single 250hp outboard engine, fit into a shipping container on a trailer, be fully convertible to a pleasure boat, have a base retail price tag of $110,000 usd (250ho e-tech, less trailer), we hit those marks, rolling out the boat and the series at the 2011 miami international boat show.  today, there are panthers on 3 continents., in 2017, the series converted the power package to the mercury racing 300xs optimax, and the performance picked up 5 miles per hour, and realized a significant handling boost over the original package., in 2018, the hulls in the usa series were changed to an infused epoxy lamination featuring carbon, yielding a 660 pound reduction in the overall weight, allowing the panther to run at 77 miles per hour., in 2019, the deck configuration was changed to an enclosed canopy, also utilizing the infused epoxy and carbon recipe, along with a power change to the new mercury racing 300r v-8 platform.  with the additional punch of a v-8, the boats now run 80 miles per hour., the panthers are currently available in 3 configurations, with another 2 in the development stages:, open cockpit pleasure outboard - up to mercury racing 450r, open cockpit race/poker run outboard - up to mercury racing 450r, canopy race - mercury racing 300r (superstock), open cockpit pleasure sterndrive  - up to mercury racing 565 bravo 1*, canopy race sterndrive - up to mercury racing 565 bravo 1*, * in development.  canopy sterndrive configuration focused on the svl/psv categories subject to homoligation.  , for specifications and ordering information, choose your configuration below, and we will build you a panther that will exceed your expectations.
