The Yacht Clontarf

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Was here midweek for dinner with family and seemed understaffed. The waitress was pleasant and did her best we were left waiting for everything, as were the family beside us. The food was hit and miss. Kids chicken tenders and a steak were fine, the... lasagna was bad (salty, bitter and chewy in parts), chips, side salads and coleslaw all cheap ingredients and average at best. The menu said it was "served with a crunchy garlic baguette" but was a finger of foccacia bread - no big deal but still. It was all presented well enough though. Maybe if management scheduled more staff it might resolve problems like this. More

I popped in for lunch last Monday on the way home from a stressful High Court case. I hadn't had much sleep and was thinking of McDonald's and a nap when I spied the Yacht. I approached the very inviting looking Carvery and ordered the... Roast Beef. The server asked me if I wanted a half or full portion and I chose half. With all the trimmings, the plate was pretty full looking and I was glad to be having the half portion. I paid €9.50 which is my usual spend in McDonald's. More

This is a really good restaurant for special occasions and small groups. I visited last week and the tables were well spaced, the atmosphere scerene and excellent view. The food was delicious - we were a party of four people and each had a steak,... which was beautifully presented and cooked. Desert was excellent, I would recommend the rum baba and the waitress really pleasant. All the waiting staff wore masks and remained with the masks on all evening. A very good experience. More

I have just had a family meal at this restaurant. I am sorry to say that i was bitterly dissapointed. We chose The Yacht based on reviews and the Web site info. I understand that COVID-19 measures are in place and that can affect the... experience, but it wasn't this that was the issue. For a start we chose the Yacht after looking at the menu online, on arrival we were 'handed' a reduced menu (this wasn't mentioned on the website) it said at the door of your restaurant that your menus were based on QR codes....not true. all the staff looked depressed and didn't add to the dining experience......we actually felt like a burden being there!! Our food was 'ok' a bit basic and boring and the deserts were very poor. Our biggest complaint was the blatant disregard for COVID measures, the table next to us was used twice by different parties, only there for drinks. And there was a table opposite us consisting of 6 men again only drinking and not eating. One of your members of staff looked like a health hazard even without covid to worry about, sweating and panting and regularly seen with his mask down. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement, it was our Daughter's 10th birthday and we thought we were taking her to a 'fancy' restaurant to celebrate....in fact we took her to a glorified sports bar. More

The carvery meat was dry, the vegetables were ok at best, it was as if gravy was running scarce on planet Earth and God forbid you ask for more. The man serving was extremely ignorant, my partner paid €11 for a half-portion of turkey and... veg, I paid €15.95 for a full portion of grizzly roast beef and veg. Neither of us had dessert or drinks. More

I was bitterly disappointed with the service in the yacht. We arrived at 4.10, our names and number taken at the door, our time of arrival noted and shown to our table. We were handed menus and told there would be no food for 20mins... as it was change over time. At half past, we finally got the attention of a waitress who got us our drinks, which had to paid for and couldn't be added to our bill. The waitress told us kitchen will be another 5mins and she will come take our order then. 15mins later still no sign of anyone coming to take our order. The rule of drinks only with food doesn't seem to be applied here. I wouldn't recommend and we definitely won't be back More

Hi It is very upsetting to have to write this message to you, but I am so annoyed about my experience on your premises yesterday. My partner and myself where looking for somewhere to go for our first time out just the two of us... since pre lockdown and haven walked by your premises and asked people about it I choose there. When we arrived, it was busy but in no time at all we had a lovely table outside so great start. That is where it ends, we were asked would we like a drink when we sat down so we ordered drink then looked at the menu. 10 minutes later still with no drink we are asked are we ready to order so we order our food and say we ordered drinks about 10 minutes ago and are waiting on them as well. Drinks arrive we think grand its cause is so busy everything will be grand. 20 to 25 minutes later I go to order another drink from the same waiter but am told you have to wait till your food comes to get the second drink which I think is weird but I say ok . 10 minutes later still no food I see what looks like a manager and ask him for a drink to which he says no problem he then comes back and says sorry but you have to order food we said we did about 40 minutes ago off that waiter there . He then goes to the waiter who tells him we did not order food {so he is actually calling us liars } he comes back and says no food was ordered to which we explain we did order and that there was a camera looking straight at us that if he checks that he will see us order. He takes our order again {without us having to look at the menu causes we already did} Then our starters arrive with no cutlery we ask the girl that brings them for some again 5 to 7 minutes later I had to go inside and ask someone bring us out some cutlery. The wings that came out were meant to be BBQ but were spicy the burger was meant to be plain with just crispy bacon as the receipt said but was just plain. Really all in all I know we are in difficult times but what was meant to be a relaxing couple of hours out for us after getting a sitter and taxi down was ruined just by the way everything went. Have emailed and messaged without reply More

We stopped in the Yacht on our way back from a walk in Howth. We didn't have a reservation and it was very busy but the staff looked after us immediately. They catered for everything we asked (my son and I are plain eaters) and... the girl serving us couldn't have been friendlier or more obliging. The food was delicious and the portion sizes are generous. It's a beautiful pub too with a nice relaxed atmosphere. We highly recommend it! More

We have been to the Yacht a couple of times for lunch since reopening & have to say it's really excellent! The layout for the new procedures are spot on. There used to be a carvery at lunchtime, & they have managed to keep this... going really successfully using social distancing. As people arrive & give their details & time of arrival is noted, then each table is taken in order to the carvery, so no queues & everything is very civilized. Food is as good as ever & we find the staff are really very friendly, welcoming & professional, so it's always worth coming back. More

I really don’t know how this place is operating!! Absolutely dreadful service. We arrived as a group of 7, took ages for anybody to ask us for our order, starters were ok except one which never arrived mains arrived while we still having starters 😡... Mains were a disaster, fish and chips has to be one of the worst I have experienced, burgers overcooked and stir fry noodles so thick and so overcooked. Wasn’t even offered dessert so can’t comment on that. Not one person came near us to see if we needed anything or if everything ok. Couldn’t even get a drink and place not overly busy. Complained to manager who wasn’t overly shocked but only took one meal off bill and 2 drinks which I feel wasn’t good enough. Avoid this place unless you want to get ripped off like we did, 265€ after they had discounted our complaint 😡😡😡😡😡 More

Went for food last night with my friend, she ordered lasagna and ask for garlic dip. The waitress asked her to clarify 4 times what she wanted. She had to re read our order 3 times aswel as she said she didn’t know the menu.... When the order arrived there was no garlic dip. I ordered the Bruschetta as a starter & Chicken Ceaser salad (€15.50) as a main. They came together, the chicken was dry, hardly any dressing and the lettuce in the salad was brown see photos below. When I brought it to the attention of a different waitress she apologised, arrived back a few minutes later apologising again offering a €5 free dessert. I refused the dessert, as I didn’t want to eat more of there food. There was no offer of a refund for the 15.50 browned salad, which I didn’t eat. Myself and my friend won’t be returning, and we won’t be recommending to friends to eat her either. This was shockingly bad customer service and food presentation. More

Wouldn’t warrant a second visit. While nice choice on the menu it was clear food was reheated from the off with how quickly courses came out of the kitchen. When this was questioned it was reconfirmed by waiter the lasagne wasn’t cooked fresh. Offered alternative... main however other half’s meal wasn’t much better so didn’t want to take the risk More

Unfortunately myself and my 8 friends decided to celebrate our friends birthday in the yacht this evening. Upon arrival , rather than be greeted with a hello from the woman (who declined to provide us with her name) scowled at me and then sternly told... me I could not sit with the rest of my friends. Understandable due to social distancing guidelines (which were not being followed what so ever ) I than sat at an opposite table . For the entire time we were there we had to deal with bullying we received from the nameless woman doing hospitality. Ironic as she wasn’t hospitable what so ever . Eventually when I asked her to stop gawking at us whilst we ate our food , she quickly scoffed and interpreted it in such a way that I was trying to shine a certain light on myself as if she found me attractive. Whether or not she found me attractive was irrelevant. What was extremely evident was the absolute disregard for customer service that was shown and the lack of professionalism . To be honest I never really liked the yacht to begin with , bad food and worse service, but after today I can safely say I will never enter the premises again. After several attempts to find out the name of any management in the yacht, a member of the bar staff told us “My name is Eamon, I run the place , now f*** off” . Another example of the tip top professionalism we experienced. What an absolute shambles of a pub. More

Had wonderful brunch in upper deck at the yacht. We all ordered different dishes and everyone gave it full marks for taste, presentation and value for money . The room is beautiful, lovely ambience , pleasant professional staff. Have also had dinner here recently and... thoroughly enjoyed it. We will definitely return and would recommend ! More

Visited this pub on Wednesday with my sister who is home from UK after two yrs and my 80 yr old mother who has bad health and unable to walk far. I asked for a low table and was told if you find one you... can sit at it. There was no menu displayed in the main bar only inside where food was, the Q was real long and I tried to look at menu when waitress told me in an aggressive tone to move due to social distance me and my family left and went to a different pub where we got fantastic service with full menu and it was lovely. I wouldn’t visit ur pub again and I’m not only person who said that. Just thought I’d message you to give feedback More

Small menu, appears fancy but not, we tried multiple meals as there were 4 of us, nothing was amazing but nothing was bad.

Mediocre food, horrible service. Came in on a Thursday night for dinner. Place was crowded, but we found ample space at the back bar area. The bartender eventually came over and I knew we were in trouble when you could read the RBF from 30' away. Started with an order of wings in a 'chili & salt" rub, along with some sauteed onions. Never seen that before but the whole dish was delish! After about an hour, I had to ask for more drinks. We eventually got our food, a 'fajita' on the menu, but prepared and serves more like a fajita burrito, and the Irish burger. The fajita was the best food my daughter has had on this trip. The burger was cold. Not that anyone cared, RBF never came back to say a thing. Had to walk up to the bar to get the check. Never once was asked how things were or told thank you for dining with them. Obviously, customers are annoying to this server.

Fajita burrito and Irish burger. Burrito good. Burger, not so good. Cold and dry.

Entering from the street you see a small bar...through the next door is the HUGE restaurant. Interesting history, great interior, delicious food, friendly service, fun cocktails - this was a great dinner experience! Was walking distance from Clontarf Castle Hotel (and was recommended by the front desk staff). And...worlds largest French fries. Each fry was about 1/4 potato. Huge!

If you are looking for an amazing pub and restaurant in Clontarf, Dublin, Ireland. I definitely recommend going to The Yacht. This bar is located on the main Clontarf Road and is very well known in the area due to being in the area for many years. Obviously it gone through a lot of renovations and updates over the years. This establishment is great for meeting up with friends for drinks, for lunch and dinner. The bar has plenty of seats, tables on the ground level and upstairs. If you visit during the week for lunch. The Yacht has the most amazing carvery. Great selection of entree's, desserts and coffee. It has being selected as one of the best place lunch over the years in Dublin. Honestly does not surprise me. The lunch was absolutely amazing. I also went to the Yacht for Sunday dinner. Our party ordered drinks to our table and all enjoyed an amazing dinner in the upstairs area of the yacht. Honestly the whole establishment is clean and has very clean restrooms. I was very impressed by all the staff that we encountered at the Yacht. They were all very Professional and took pride in their jobs. Definitely loved the back ground music also. Took me back to the 1980's. It should be noted I am originally from Dublin, Ireland. Traveled all over the world with the US Marines and all over the United States. I definitely know a great bar from all my travels. Also the Yacht was my Dad's local bar during the 1960's and 1970's. If you talk to anyone In Clontarf or from the area everyone seems to have great memories of this establishment. I definitely will be returning to the Yacht upon my next visit to Ireland. Definitely a must visit when staying in Dublin. Lastly the Yacht rates ten stars and more!!! Excellent Experience upon entering the establishment till we left.

I find myself Going back here again and again. It has a wonderful atmosphere and lovely decor. I also especially love to be outside on the patio during the summer and have a love you going back here again and again. It has a wonderful atmosphere and lovely decor. I also especially love to be outside on the patio during the summer and Enjoying the view. It can get pretty crowded, especially on Sundays, but can also be cozy. I've been really impressed with the food there as well.

Atmosphere is amazing but not fond of the cafeteria style serving but was told this is not the norm - Food was average, but would recommend based on the atmosphere and the beer - Service is not the best and could use some serious upgrades - I am a yank on vacation and was expecting a little more but still gave it a three.

Photo of Niall F.

As mentioned, The Yacht decided to close its doors for a complete refurbishment. They have now reopened and my review is a positive one. First impressions were very good, the place looks great from the outside and it got more than just a lick of paint. Inside was crowded but there was no problem finding a space at the bar. I don't usually drink Guinness but I just had to try it since they used to pour a very good one - I wasn't disappointed, it was perfect. Not sure if they serve food or not but its my understanding that they do, I will no doubt be going back on another night when its not as busy. All in all, I am a very thankful local that The Yacht is back and better than ever.

Nice interior and location, but the service is terrible. Walked in at 3:40 on a Friday and sat down. We were told dinner wasn't until 4:30 and it'd be buffet setup and we could get our own. Got menu's and drinks (which confused us) and nothing for an hour. Flagged down a different "server" and was told we could order off menu and there was no buffet etc.. Waited another 30 minutes for food which was just okay. Never asked if everything was alright or if we needed drink refills. Had to go to bar myself and ask for water which they brought over. No sign of server for another 20 minutes, so I asked another person for bill. The place is full of staff running around like they're in Time Square with too much to do.Meanwhile the place wasn't even that busy with plenty of empty seats. In the U.S. the staff have an incentive to give great service or there'll be no tip. Staff can go home pocketing a ton of money for just doing a good job. Here, it's obvious that without that missing part of the equation, servers don't care and customers get burned.

Photo of John M.

Staying in clontarf, this was one of the biggest restaurants. They seem to always have an open table. Much better pub food than some though not as authentic a feel. Temple bar isn't exactly authentic either but you're in Ireland. You need live music every night! Anyway, great curry, fish and chips, seafood chowder, and basically everything on the menu. Many drink options though only about 10 drinks on tap. I'm not as much of a beer guy so that wasn't a problem for me.

Photo of MA C.

Hmmmm- My Irish Relatives said be careful of Irish restaurants....the nice server took our drink order and the boy who brought our drinks (I'm sorry this is so graphic) was picking his nose. Our food order was placed and the person came out from the kitchen and basically dropped it off with a scowl in her face and left. No one asked if we'd like water - we had to ask for the dessert menu twice -! HELP ! The food was ok. Average, not anything to write home about. Pub food we have had has been sssssooooo much better.

Inside mammoth €300m super yacht with luxurious interior, swimming pool and aquarium docked in Irish seaside town

A SUPER yacht owned by one of the world's richest women has been spotted moored in Dublin.

The enormous cruiser, which is worth an eye-watering €300million, was docked near Dun Laoghaire Harbour on Tuesday.

Kaos is a 110m super yacht owned by Nancy Walton Laurie, heiress to the Walmart fortune

The 300 million Kaos, formerly known as the Jubilee, is 110-metres long, weighs 4,523 tonnes and boasts four decks, 16 cabins and has space for 30 guests and 45 crew.

According to  Superyacht Times , the yacht's Lobanov–designed exterior features a combination of curved lines and glass panels to create an illusion of extra decks and a "trompe l’oeil effect" which makes the boat appear long and lean.

Images of the opulent interiors have been doing the rounds on social media, showcasing an on-deck swimming pool, an elegant dining area and helipad.

The luxurious vessel also features a cinema, an indoor beach club, a gym, a steam room, a sauna and even has its own spa.

It also includes large dining/lounge areas and the cabins feature silk carpet, and the lavish bathrooms consist of solid marble.

The lounge area has gold ceilings, with dark wood features and marble bathrooms.

Multiple decks allow plenty of room for sunbathing on the white plush couches and chairs.

The top deck even has a jacuzzi for those onboard to relax in.

The boat also reportedly features an aquarium.

It belongs to Walmart heiress billionaire Nancy Walton Laurie and was the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands upon its launch back in 2017.

According to Boat International Magazine, the yacht was bought by its new owners in 2018.

Laurie is the youngest daughter of Bud Walton, whose brother Sam  began what would become the world's largest retail store.

The first-ever  Walmart  store opened in July 1962 in  Arkansas , and the heirs own around 50 percent of the stock collectively.

'ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE'

The 110-metre superyacht sailed up the Thames in London after a mammoth transatlantic passage from Miami before making its way to Irish shores.

The yacht arrived off Dun Laoghaire Harbour on a flat calm morning and is anchored offshore in one of Dublin Port's ship anchorages.

A tender has been coming and going from Kaos this morning.

And people on Twitter couldn't get over the "massive boat" docking up on the coast of Dublin.

One person said: "Wow, absolutely massive boat. It even has a helipad on the top, very cool."

Another joked: "I wonder who will be the first person to try to get up close to it with a drone only to find out that someone with that much money has for sure invested in countermeasures."

Over 90 ships are expected to visit Dun Laoghaire this year as some of the wealthiest people in the world take a pitstop on Irish water.

The Kaos' visit arrives just weeks after social entrepreneurs James Berwind moored his €80 million Scout in the Liffey before visiting Kinsale.

The enormous cruiser is worth an eye-watering €300million

Dublin Bay Sailing Club

Dublin Bay Sailing Club

yacht in dublin

Dublin Bay Sailing Club is the largest yacht-racing organisation in Ireland and arguably in these islands. With thirteen  hundred elected members, the Club provides regular weekly racing for upwards of 320 yachts, ranging from ocean-going forty footers to single-handed dinghies.

It  operates from Dun Laoghaire, a major marine recreational centre  six miles to the south of Dublin. Members are drawn for the most part from the four local yacht clubs but visiting yachts can participate in racing if they complete the Club’s temporary yacht entry and membership form and pay a small fee.

Apart from a Starter’s Hut on Dun Laoghaire West Pier, the Club possesses no premises; moorings and the usual onshore facilities are provided by the local yacht clubs. The Dun Laoghaire Marina, situated in the north-western side of the Harbour, accommodates a considerable number of racing yachts.

Racing usually starts at the end of April and continues up to the end of September. Mid-week races for keelboats takes place on Thursday evenings, from late April to the end of August. Keelboat crews and dinghy sailors race on Tuesday evenings. On Saturday afternoons (April to September) racing is provided for both keelboats and dinghies. Keelboat races start either on fixed lines on the seaward side of Dun Laoghaire West Pier or from one of the Club’s two committee boats.

Courses are designed  around 26 fixed marks in Dublin Bay, in an area of nearly 40 square miles, extending from Salthill and Seapoint on the western side of Bay to the Burford Bank on the east. Races finish at the Club’s fixed lines at the West Pier or at a committee boat.

Dinghy racing takes place on Olympic-type courses on Tuesdays in the Bay and and  on designated Saturdays in Dun Laoghaire Harbour   On certain Saturdays in June and July, the Club makes way for the annual one-day regattas of the the four local yacht clubs and alternating every two years with Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta organised jointly by the clubs

On Sunday mornings also, during the winter months, the Club organises two series of races for cruising boats. The Turkey Shoot series runs for the six Sundays leading up to Christmas. The Spring Chicken series starts usually on the first Sunday in February and also lasts six weeks. These races are conducted in a more relaxed, informal way than summer series which follows the traditional format. Some of the eighty or so competing boats are marina-based and do not race in the summer series.

Walmart billionaire’s €300m superyacht moored off Dún Laoghaire coast

Heiress’s luxury vessel comes complete with a heli pad, swimming pool and 16 cabins.

A superyacht belonging to one of the wealthiest women in the world was sighted on Tuesday moored in Scotsman’s Bay, off Dún Laoghaire, providing a rare treat for the harbour’s yacht spotters.

The 110-metre, €300 million Kaos is reportedly owned by Nancy Walton Laurie, heiress to the Walmart US retail empire.

Weighing in at 4,523 tons, it has impressive features including 16 cabins, a gym, a steam room, an indoor beach club, a cinema, a sauna, and a spa. There is also a swimming pool and a helipad.

The yacht’s interiors are known for their lavish style which includes marble and stone fittings, and custom-made silk carpets.

The yacht was recently seen in London and Cornwall before making its way to Dún Laoghaire.

According to Superyacht Times, Kaos was formerly known as Jubilee, and was launched in 2017, as the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands.

“The exterior features a combination of curved lines and glass panels in the bulwarks is visually stunning to create an illusion of extra decks and a trompe l’oeil effect where the yacht appears long and lean. Metallic paint enhances reflected sunlight on these curved lines,” the publication said.

It was the second large private yacht to visit the Dublin in recent weeks and follows the more modest €80 million Scout which was moored in the Liffey and visited Kinsale.

Scout, also a Dutch-built vessel, was launched in 2019 for James Berwind, whose family made a fortune out of coal and mining. He now engages in social entrepreneurship and is reported to have a passion for animal welfare.

Berwind and his partner Kevin Clark designed Scout, which is named after the couple’s dog, to be a semi-permanent base from which they can explore the world.

The superyacht visits come at the beginning of what is expected to be a busy season for cruise ships at the historic south Dublin port town.

Mary Hanafin, former Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown council, said more than 90 ships will visit Dún Laoghaire this year. During her tenure as Cathaoirleach, which concluded this week, Ms Hanafin said she visited three ships which were first-time arrivals in Dún Laoghaire. She said the cruise ships which she visited were two small luxury vessels which can accommodate 500 to 600 passengers, and one larger ship which could accommodate some 3,200 passengers and 1,400 crew.

Ms Hanafin said the local authority which controls the harbour receives fees for boats moored offshore while power boat owners also received fees for escorting tenders.

She said while some passengers went on to Dublin or Glendalough, many remained in Dún Laoghaire Town and spent money on gifts. She said the council has set up and tourist information and gift shops as well as a reception area in the harbour.
