Foundation 36
Foundation 36 is a 35 ′ 7 ″ / 10.9 m monohull sailboat designed by Brett Bakewell-White and built by Peter Milner Yachts starting in 1995.
Rig and Sails
Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
Sail Area / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3
- SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
- D : Displacement in pounds.
Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
Displacement / Length Ratio
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
- LWL: Waterline length in feet
Comfort Ratio
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
- LOA: Length overall in feet
- Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
Capsize Screening Formula
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

Titan 36 2001
Description
Specifications, titan 36 ~ highly competitive racer/cruiser.
The Foundation 36 was designed by Bakewell-White in 1995 to create a new fleet for the inaugural World Match Racing Championships held in Perth. The original fleet is now used for the Monsoon cup in Malaysia, while the fleet in Perth has developed into a club racing fleet of some 40 boats.
The Titan 36 integrates the highly successful hull from the Foundation 36, with a re-designed deck that provides a spacious interior with accommodation.
The Titan’s were built to a very high standard by local boat builder Peter Milner. The yachts were solidly constructed to withstand the rigors of off-shore racing. Electric Tram is constructed from cold moulded Western Red Cedar and West System Epoxy. Western Red Cedar is a light dimensionally stable timber, with a very high strength-to-weight ratio. It doesn’t absorb water readily and is highly resistant to rot. This form of strip plank construction is very light and contributes significantly to the stiffness and strength of the hull, and that translates into better performance on the water!
The Titan 36 performs extremely well in a broad range of conditions and has proven to be a very competitive and successful racing yacht.
‘Electric Tram’ was commissioned with a secret weapon, a factory fitted lifting hydraulic keel with a torpedo bulb. The keel is lifted with a hydraulic ram and can be securely locked off at 1.75m, 2.18m or 2.66m. With the keel all the way down at 2.66m, the performance to windward is outstanding. With the keel all the way up at 1.75m, drag is greatly reduced and shallower anchorages become accessible.
Electric Tram has proven to be a very competitive racing yacht and recent results tell the story. o Geographe Bay Race Week 2019 Winner o Club Champion 2021/22 season. o Geographe Bay Yacht Club, Division One Champion 2020/21 and 2019/20 seasons, o Offshore Series Winner 2020/21,2019/20 and 2018/19 seasons.
The interior has a simple and clean layout. There are four full sized adult berths. The galley features a two burner metho stove and a sink. There are two eskies that sit firmly in dedicated mounts beside the companionway steps. And with an enclosed head, Electric Tram features just enough creature comforts to spend weekends away or cruise the coast.
Propulsion is provided by a reliable 28hp Volvo Penta with a shaft drive and two blade folding prop. She has also been fitted with high quality PSS drip-less shaft seal.
Electric tram comes complete with a comprehensive suite of high quality racing sails and an additional dacron cruising mainsail. She has been very well maintained and regularly upgraded by her current owner. The mast and standing rigging were both replaced in 2011. The winches have been upgraded to Andersen self-tailing 40ST and 46ST (Over $5k spent). The engine has been professionally maintained and the antifoul was just done in March this year. She was recently surveyed on the 6/5/2022.
Electric Tram is the ideal yacht for a sailor looking for a competitive racing yacht that is capable of winning some silverware, and for a sailor that is also looking for the additional flexibility of being able to spend weekends away or cruise the coast occasionally.
At only $49k, Electric Tram represents exceptional value for money. She is currently located at Port Geographe Marina and the Pen is available, should the new owner wish to take over the lease and keep her there.

WHY FIRST 36 ?
SPEED MADE EASY
When you boat can do 14 knots on jib alone, fun and excitement will result in simply sailing more.
THE DESIGN TEAM
Our designers are not only world-class names from the nautical industry but also passionate sailors and friends. In this project, they found a common goal of designing a true sailing boat for the coming age.
MORE THAN JUST 36 FEET
A modern hull design brings about an extensive interior volume. This allows for an interior with the size and comfort of a 40-footer from the previous generation.
INDUSTRIALIZED HIGH-TECH
The hull, deck, bulkheads and interior components are fully cored and vacuum infused. Everything contributes to structural strength. To date, this building technique has only been used in racing or expensive niche brands. The result is a very stiff boat, weighing only 4.800 kg.
VARIABLE COCKPIT
The cockpit is modular, as it needs to address a wide variety of setups. Removable bench extensions transform the cockpit area into a comfortable cruising lounge. When extensions are removed, the cockpit has an ergonomic and efficient racing/shorthanded setup.
SAILING EXPERIENCE
A whole new sailing experience opens up when you can achieve double-digit boat speeds easily and in complete control.
The main components of making this possible are the light weight and the world-class nautical design of Sam Manuard. An ergonomic and extremely precise steering system is also vital. With race-grade rudder blades, the steering wheels remain light and direct even when planing downwind or at higher heeling angles.
To stay true to its 40 years of Beneteau heritage, a First needs to excel in fully-crewed club racing, relaxed family cruising as well as shorthanded sailing. Cockpit ergonomics was one of the main focuses in the design process. The higher wheel position gives the helmsman direct access to the mainsail winch, an important detail for shorthanded sailing.
LIVING ONBOARD
The First 36 features a traditional three-cabin layout. To maximize living space in the saloon, the bathroom footprint is minimized, using an innovative foldable sink. The extra space makes room for a navigation table/onboard office.
Another innovation standing out in the saloon is the standalone fridge island. A removable cutting board can significantly extend the working surface of the standard L-shape galley and make it the largest kitchen area in the class.
High-quality wooden details, in combination with minimalistic GRP, provide a modern, elegant living space below deck.
A connected boat
The mobile application, Seanapps , and its onboard unit lets you view the status of the boat's various systems (battery charge, fuel or water tank levels, maintenance scheduling) via your smartphone, as well as planning your route or reviewing your sailing status using your mobile phone.

Cigarettes are famous the world over for their sleek lines and streamlined silhouettes. Aronow christened his first boat the Cigarette as he thought the long, thin body resembled a cigarette, according to the auction house. Monster Munch is a fabulous example of a 36 Gladiator model, featuring a racing hull, twin “Richie Zul” V-8s capable of 775 hp, and IMCO Bravo surface drives with five-blade Hering propellors. The speedster can reach a blistering 108 mph all out. It also showcases a purple and yellow body reminiscent of the Monster Munch chip packet.
Monster Munch was delivered to its first owner in 2004 before it was later sold to the current owner. The second yachter, who Iconic says has several other vessels, has carefully stored the boat indoors in Mallorca. They also instructed Nigel Figgins of NJF Marine to “maintain the boat regardless of cost.” Invoices covering maintenance total some $139,000 (€128,000), Iconic says. This work included an overhaul of both engines by Richie Zul and a rebuild of the drivetrain. In addition, new batteries and a fresh seawater pump were fitted in 2023. With only 236 engine hours clocked and a complete service history, the boat is in “turn-key” condition and ready to tear across the seas.

The 14-foot Peterborough boat, named Amah & Grandpa is being raffled by the Adirondack Health Foundation. (Provided photo)
SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Health Foundation is hosting a raffle for an antique wooden runabout, which was donated by former Upper Saranac residents Joe and Charlotte Blitt.
The 14-foot Peterborough boat has a 15-horsepower outboard motor with seating for five. The boat is currently named “Amah and Grandpa,” which is what the Blitts’ grandchildren call them. The boat was built in 1940 by the Peterborough Canoe Works in Ontario, Canada. It was originally owned by Levi Morton, former New York governor and U.S. vice president, and was restored by Joe Blitt.
The winning ticket will be drawn on Saturday, July 6 at Adirondack Health’s annual Gala on the shores of Lower St. Regis at Paul Smith’s College. Ticket holders do not need to be present to win.
Tickets cost $20 each or six for $100.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.
Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.
Belfry and Neighbouring Churches
Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.
To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.
Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral
The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.
Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.
Tsaritsa's Chambers
The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.
At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.
Palace of Tsar Alexis
The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
