The Sailor's Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club

If you've been invited to a casual yacht club rendezvous, you'll need the right threads to fit in.  in this guide, we'll walk you through the yacht club attire you'll need to fit in. hint: you can find the perfect outfit head to toe with castaway.

You've been invited to a meal or event at a local yacht club, but you've never been to one before. Suddenly, the panic sets in. What should you wear? Fortunately, there are lots of options and visiting a yacht club does not mean you have to spend a lot of money just to fit in. This post will give you some pointers on yacht club attire so that you feel neither under nor overdressed, and can really enjoy yourself and have a great time at the club.

Before you even think about what to wear, check to see if the yacht club you're going to has a dress code posted online. Most of them do, and the rules can vary from club to club. The Nantucket Yacht Club , for example, requires semi-formal attire for its dinners and cocktail attire including ties for men during its dinner dances and balls. The Hyannis Yacht Club goes into a little more detail. It accepts stylish casual wear including clean, neat jeans and shorts for lunch. For dinner, guests are expected to step it up by leaving the denim at home and wearing sports coats. Different areas of a club may also have different dress rules. Bars and outdoor decks tend to more lax and allow casual clothing.

Sometimes, the easiest way of narrowing down what to wear is to eliminate what you should not wear. This is just a partial list of how not to show up at any kind of yacht club unless you want to be denied admittance or receive a lot of disapproving glares. All rules listed apply to the inside of the club, and can vary for beach and dock rulings.

Flip Flops or Going Barefoot: This rule applies INSIDE the club, or for any meal time. Most people love the beach, but going barefoot is not only unacceptable, but unhygienic.

You'll want to wear appropriate footwear such as sturdy sandals or closed toe shoes. While a lot of children and adults love their flip-flops, they may be a little too casual for a yacht club atmosphere. The most popular choice here is a boat shoe style but a bridle bit driver is always appropriate - check the latest . The lightly worn leather and pencil-curled laces fit the bill in the cool department.

Torn, Stained, or Worn Clothing: Any attire that is showing signs of wear such as rips, stains that never came out, holes, missing buttons, etc. should be left at home.

Baseball Caps and Other Hats: Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue. Save them for the sailing excursions.

Extra points on the water if you rock the Club’s Burgee on the hat!

Swimwear: Just a no-no. Save it for the boat and the beach. A cover-up can be acceptable for the patio.

Going Shirtless: Nope!

Undershirts as Shirts: See above. You may also want to be careful about choosing a t-shirt, particularly one with graphics, when visiting a yacht club. Most prefer that you wear a collared shirt, even if it's a casual one such as a polo shirt.

Tank tops for men and any tank tops for women that are skimpy and don't hide undergarments should be saved for another occasion.

Women have a lot of options when it comes to visiting a yacht club. Linen and cotton make the perfect summer blouses. A light but structured Sleeveless Top paired with a  sweater is perfect for warding off cool sea breezes when you're out on the deck. A polo or collared shirt works well for the yacht club scene as well. You can also consider a dressy blouse that has a little bit of flounce to it. If shorts are allowed for the time and area of the club you're visiting, consider sporting  Sailing  shorts  with a cute anchor embroidery. They're cool, classy, and show off just the right amount of leg. Casual skirts and dresses are perfectly fine as well as long as they're not too short and revealing. If you're attending a party at a yacht club you may need to wear a nice cocktail dress, or a classic Tunic Dress for a day event. Special events such as balls and dinner dances usually specify what is appropriate attire on the invitation.

Don't forget to have fun with accessories! A straw handbag can complete a nautical themed look.

For most casual yacht club occasions, men can't go wrong with a collared shirt and long pants or Cisco Shorts . Pastel and preppy shades such as summer green, hurricane red, and islander blue rule here.

When casual attire is allowed, collared sport or polo shirts are always in fashion. Seersucker and linen shirts are available in several colors and patterns for summer club get-togethers. If jeans are not allowed, seersucker or cotton canvas pants are still casual and comfortable yet dressy enough for all areas of a yacht club. If you really want to show your love of nautical dressing, consider wearing a fun Embroidered Pant !

Or you can opt for solid pants but add some nautical flair with an embroidered belt . Classic summer staples like Seersucker and Madras Patches will make you the talk of the Club, in a good way!

For those chilly sea breezes and evenings, a quarter zip pullover wards off the cool air while keeping you stylish and casual.

It's a good idea to keep a sportcoat and a few ties in your closet just in case the yacht club you're visiting requires it. Opt for a fun all over embroidered jacket, or a Madras Patchwork style to really up your game.

Kids' clothing should conform to the same yacht club rules as established for grown-up guests. If you really want your son to look cute, consider dressing him in the same matching outfit as dad.

Whether you're looking to make a splash with yacht club attire or just want to look good on the boat or while meeting with friends, we have the seaside looks that you'll look and feel wonderful in for men, women, and children.

What to Wear on a Yacht

Ian Fortey

When you’re on a yacht you’re obviously going to dress for the weather but, in general, you want to keep it light and cool. Casual is good within reason as long as you don’t go overboard, so to speak, and it need not be formal but it shouldn’t look inappropriate or out of place. There’s no set in stone dress code for yachts

The most expensive yachts in the world cost hundreds of millions of dollars and, for most of us, that’s a bit out of reach. But that doesn’t mean we’ll never get on a yacht for a weekend charter or even a yacht party and when that happens knowing what to wear is something you may be curious about. Let’s dig into some deeper details of suitable yacht attire for men and women so you don’t have to worry about feeling self conscious when you’re living it up on a fancy yacht.

Yacht Styles Suitable for Men

yacht named casual

In 80s movies you may have seen some yacht captains decked out in full formal jackets with hats and pipes and everything. You can still do that and, no word of a lie, a guy at my uncle’s yacht club used to wear the navy jacket and a captain’s hat everywhere he went for years. But most people like to keep it casual on a yacht and far less formal with a simple, casual outfit.

Linen is a popular choice for yachting because it’s very light and breezy and keeps you cool under the blazing sun. A linen shirt, like linen button downs, have a real casual but not inappropriate quality to them that has been linked to boating for years and would ensure you never look out of place.

Light cotton works just as well, of course, and something like a polo shirt wouldn’t make you stand out in a crowd, or a simple button down. Even a t-shirt wouldn’t look out of place but you’ll want to tailor that to the situation. If you’re literally just day sailing then that’s great. But if it’s a slightly more formal outing or maybe a party then you may want to keep it a little more upscale

Here’s another case where you should take the situation into account. Shorts and trunks can definitely be appropriate on a yacht but if you’re having a party in the evening then maybe consider longer pants. However, if you’re actually traveling on the yacht, especially if you’re fishing or sailing/racing, a good pair of swim shorts will do you well. Not just for the freedom and for keeping you cool but in the event of an emergency and you do end up in the water, it’s never a bad idea to be ready to swim.

Vans Boat Shoes-Zapato Del Barca

Boat shoes are a must for any boat ride. You don’t want to be skidding around on the deck in inappropriate footwear but at the same time you want to be comfortable. These are often called deck shoes as well, and they are very close to loafers with the addition of laces.

You’ll definitely see people in loafers on yachts but loafers don’t have siped soles, which means they aren’t textured to provide the proper grip on deck. If the yacht is going to be actually out there sailing and moving on the water, you want deck shoes.

Some people wear flip flops and that may be fine for a casual day with friends.

Accessories

yacht named casual

You should be wearing sunglasses on a boat whether or not its a yacht just because you want to keep your eyes protected from dangerous UV rays and the glare off of the water. Polarized shades are the best but anything is better than nothing. A nice pair of aviators won’t look out of place, or some Ray Bans can be great as well.

Yacht Styles for Women

yacht named casual

Traditionally the difference between men’s fashion and women’s fashion on a yacht has been one of practicality. In the past, men were the ones always controlling the yacht and women were passengers. Boating has a somewhat shady history of not being friendly to women, you’ll recall. And for that reason women were mostly seen wearing swimsuits and lounging on yachts. But if you’re a woman running the boat, you’ll likely want the same freedom and comfort that a man in a simple shirt and shorts is enjoying.

Now if you’re not piloting the boat and instead are just around to enjoy a yacht party, then swimsuits tend to be the order of the day and potentially some kind of wrap or cover up as well. Basically whatever feels most comfortable and appropriate to the occasion.

Things like kaftans, sundresses, and various wraps and coverups that would work poolside or at the beach when you’re not in the water are just as welcome on a yacht and won’t look out of place at all.  A knee length summer dress is something you’d likely see on any yacht.

Speedo Women’s Port Lightweight Breathable Water Shoe

Like men, you can get a good pair of women’s boat shoes that look a little more elegant if that’s what interests you, and they’re a good investment. Again, a boat shoe is less about appearance than function when the boat is actually in motion and you want something that gives you firm footing, which a boat shoe can do.

Both hats and sunglasses are more than appropriate for women on a yacht and offer the added protection from the sun that you’re going to want anyway. You won’t look out of place and you’ll be doing your eyes and skin a favor by keeping them away from harmful UV rays. Remember the sunscreen as well.

What to Wear to a Yacht Party

yacht named casual

Now a yacht party is a different sort of monster than just being on a yacht. This will likely be a more formal occasion and that means dressing up a little. Ditching the shorts for this is probably a good idea.

Unless you have been specifically told this is a formal wear event, black tie affair don’t dress for one. Most yacht parties aren’t that formal because, well, they’re on boats. Leaning into the boat aspect is a better option. A suit would be as formal as you should expect unless told something ultra formal like a tuxedo is expected. But most yacht parties are likely to be a little more casual than that.

Consider dress pants and a button down shirt or a blazer. A sport coat and tie, maybe with a matching jacket, is also very common for parties on yachts.

A more formal occasion, a wedding for instance, will probably clue you in as to what would be expected in terms of dress. And, hopefully, your hosts are going to be gracious enough to make it clear if you do need to dress to the nines.

You can find some more formal boat shoes and, if things get a little fancier, some dress shoes that don’t have slippery soles will work as well.

Are Cocktail Dresses Appropriate for Women?

yacht named casual

At the more formal end of things, a classy yacht party could very well require you to wear a cocktail dress or in rare cases even some kind of fancy gown. Cocktail attire is a little less formal than evening wear and more suited for a casual affair. Hopefully it will be made clear before you agree to show up just how formal the event is, but it’s definitely not unheard of. If it’s a party at night, and you’re going to be moored out on the water with a view of the city, for instance, a dress would be well within reason.

If things aren’t so formal as a boat wedding, then consider a wide-legged pant, a romper, a wrap skirt or really anything you’d wear to a gathering on a beach, or pool type party.

One thing you want to remember when attending any event on a yacht is to not wear heels. I’ve seen it in person and it’s a bad idea. Not that you’re guaranteed to lose your balance, but the odds are definitely leaning towards it. It’s an accident waiting to happen, so stick with flat shoes.

Are all Boat Parties the Same?

People can throw a boat party for weddings, anniversaries, charity events, retirements and probably a hundred other things. Don’t let the fact that it’s on a yacht throw you off if you’ve never attended one. A party is a party, after all.

If you’re unclear of expectations, feel free to ask. Consider bringing a sweater or light jacket just in case it gets cold and remember that good footwear is extra important on a yacht so you keep your balance. Whether it’s ultra formal or super casual, that will never change.

The Bottom Line

Classy but casual is often an easy way to approach dressing on a yacht. If it’s a party, you may need to step it up a notch, but that will really depend on the party itself and what your hosts expect. Consider linen and other very light, breathable fabrics. Remember boat shoes are the best idea to keep your grip on deck, and don’t forget swimsuits as well as sunglasses and other sun-protection gear.

What to Wear on a Yacht: Style Essentials

You love the boating lifestyle and the great marina outdoors, and you're wondering what to wear on a Mediterranean yacht charter. Here are a few handy tips on what to wear on a yacht to look the part.

yacht named casual

Whether you’re about to board your chartered luxury yacht for a business brunch, a romantic moonlit dinner on deck, or a weekend of bathing and basking in Mediterranean sea and sunshine, the yacht dress code is essentially simplicity and practicality.

A Time for Leisure

yacht named casual

Always keep in mind the very purpose of your yacht holiday and surroundings. While strikingly stylish, a luxury boat stay is an invitation to cast your cares away as you unwind on board. It’s really all about striking a balance between sporting a good look and feeling super comfortable in what you’re wearing. Don’t be too concerned about donning less sophisticated and more casual attire during your charter time at sea. Focus instead on how you will be spending your vacation time in the most relaxed manner possible.

Fashionably Functional

yacht named casual

Make sure to bring along lightweight clothing in a soft bag for easy stowing. Shorts, Capri pants and Chinos, as well as casual shirts, tees and vests are great for lounging on deck. Yacht wear is normally available in the trademark nautical tones of red, white and blue – and let’s not forget the iconic and stylishly cool Breton stripe!

yacht named casual

Ladies will love wearing flowy dresses, sarongs and kaftans over their bathing costumes during the day, which double as great numbers to don to a romantic dinner on board or ashore.

The Bare Necessities

yacht named casual

In addition to applying sunscreen cream with a high SPF, there’s nothing more important than your sunglasses and hat – perhaps even a scarf – to help protect your facial skin from the strong sun. Polarised lenses are simply must-haves, offering maximum UV protection for your eyes throughout those long hours of swimming and sunbathing.

A Cosy Yacht Stay

yacht named casual

When chartering a yacht in cooler weather, prepare something warm to throw on for when the evening temperature drops. A denim shirt or light jacket usually does the trick, letting you enjoy a few more hours of deck-lounging to the soothing sound of the water lapping.

The Right Footwear is No Footwear

yacht named casual

Here’s where your pointed shoes and stilettos don’t make an appearance. It is customary in the boating world to remove one’s footwear before boarding a vessel, which will ensure a pristine-looking, hygenic boat throughout your stay. Embrace the barefoot vacation spirit, or alternatively wear light-coloured socks, soft-soled slippers or flip flops dedicated for sole use on the yacht.

Make Memories Aboard

yacht named casual

No item too fine or precious should be brought along on board, so leave your designer suits and gowns safely in your home wardrobes to be worn for a more appropriate occasion. Good old hardy denim garments generally fit the purpose, as does basic cotton clothing.

yacht named casual

You’ll soon feel that this yacht experience is more about enriching your quality time and fuelling your sense of adventure and discovery than about looking your best at all times. More importantly, it’s about feeling your best while taking in the surrounding natural beauty and having a fantastic time in treasured company.

What To Wear On A Yacht featured image by the supermelon

Attending a yacht party calls for a blend of sophisticated style and relaxed elegance, capturing the essence of the nautical setting while ensuring your comfort and confidence.

Whether envisioning a glamorous sunset cocktail party, a leisurely sunbathing session, or a serene exploration of hidden coves, curating the perfect yacht ensemble becomes an art.

This guide navigates the realm of yacht fashion, offering insights and inspiration to ensure you’re impeccably dressed for every moment of your nautical experience.

From chic essentials that capture the essence of oceanic elegance to tips on selecting attire that harmonizes with both sea and sky, the following are the style essentials to elevate your yacht experience to unparalleled heights.

yacht named casual

Yacht settings generally adhere to a semi-formal dress code, implying that items like shorts, flip-flops, or t-shirts are best avoided. Instead, consider selecting slacks or khakis for men; sundresses, jumpsuits, or skirts are excellent choices for women.

When in doubt about your attire, it’s preferable to lean towards a more polished appearance rather than a casual one.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

When dressing for a yacht outing, opt for a nautical-inspired ensemble. Consider wearing a crisp white shirt paired with tailored shorts, boat shoes or espadrilles, and a sun hat.

This classic look combines comfort and style, suitable for both genders, while capturing the essence of a yacht setting.

Before finalizing your outfit for the boat party, there are a couple of factors to consider, with the first being the prevailing weather conditions. If the temperature is soaring, opting for lightweight and breathable fabrics is paramount.

Donning stylish swimsuits is integral to yacht party attire, accompanied by chic cover-ups and delicate, breezy dresses or shorts. By skillfully coordinating these elements, you can effortlessly master the art of yacht-worthy fashion.

However, in the event of cooler temperatures, ensuring you’re well-insulated is imperative. Being caught unprepared amidst the vast ocean during fall or winter could prove quite uncomfortable.

Moreover, regardless of the schedule, having a sweatshirt or a light denim jacket at the ready is prudent, particularly when the night descends.

The maritime environment can turn quite chilly after sunset, especially during the colder months.

Furthermore, your outfit choice should be tailored to the specific activities planned aboard the yacht. If your plan revolves around leisurely moments on the boat’s deck, a combination of shorts and a T-shirt layered over a stylish bikini is likely suitable.

However, should water sports be part of the agenda, selecting attire that remains relatively dry and light prevents any undue discomfort caused by excess moisture.

Lastly, take into consideration the overarching ambiance of the yacht setting. For a laid-back gathering, opting for a more relaxed outfit is acceptable.

However, if the occasion leans towards a more refined tone, it’s essential to align your attire accordingly.

Midi or maxi dresses and stylish rompers and jumpsuits are excellent choices that seamlessly blend sophistication with style.

Essential attire for women at a yachting event includes cover-ups, tunics, kaftans, and dresses with a fluid, breezy quality. These pieces harmonize seamlessly with swimwear, offering both a stylish layer and a means of keeping cool and comfortable.

Opting for a maxi or lace cover-up exudes an elevated charm, while selecting a sundress cover-up or a romper lends a more relaxed aura. For everyday yacht wear, consider the practicality of linen dresses and side tie skirts, both of which effortlessly complement the maritime experience.

yacht named casual

No looks exudes the maritime quite like a cover-up, and these lightweight garments serve as a stylish and functional layering option when transitioning between water-based activities and lounging on the beach or on a yacht. Cover-ups are typically made from materials like chiffon, cotton, linen, or lightweight knits, which make them breathable and comfortable in warm weather. Moreover, cover-ups offer protection from the sun’s rays while maintaining an air of sophistication. The following are common cover-ups for women:

With their loose and flowing silhouettes, tunics further amplify a great seaside look. They often feature intricate designs, embroidery, or patterns and can be made from lightweight materials like cotton, linen, or sheer fabrics.

Tunics provide coverage for the upper body while allowing air to circulate, keeping you cool. Their effortless charm pairs well with the nautical backdrop, allowing women to exude both comfort and elegance.

yacht named casual

Kaftans are loose-fitting, maxi-length dresses with wide sleeves, often made from flowing fabrics like chiffon, silk, or lightweight cotton. Kaftans can be quite elegant and are popular for their bohemian vibe. They offer women full coverage and the ultimate in  comfort during warm weather.

Slay it with a sarong!

Typically made from lightweight, quick-drying materials like rayon or silk, sarongs are versatile pieces of fabric that can be wrapped around the waist like a skirt, tied as a halter dress, or used as a shawl. Sarongs are easy to pack and provide coverage while allowing flexibility in styling.

Inspired by traditional Japanese clothing, kimonos are open-front, flowing garments that often feature vibrant prints and patterns and are made from lightweight materials.

Kimonos are distinctive, add a touch of elegance, and can be worn over swimsuits or paired with shorts and tops.

Oversized Shirts

yacht named casual

For a more casual approach, an oversized button-up shirt can be worn as a cover-up. It’s a versatile option that can be worn open or buttoned up, offering coverage and protection from the sun.

Play up the look with vibrant colors or intricate patterns for an engaging yacht style.

Is a cocktail dress a suitable choice for women?

For occasions leaning towards the more refined end of the spectrum, a sophisticated yacht party might very well warrant the selection of a cocktail dress, or in rarer instances, an elegant gown. The cocktail dress code, being slightly less formal than full evening wear, aligns well with such gatherings’ relaxed yet stylish atmosphere.

Ideally, the event’s formality level will be communicated beforehand, but exceptions do exist.

When the ambiance is less formal than a boat wedding, alternative options like wide-legged pants, rompers, or wrap skirts can be considered. Attire resembling what you would choose for a beach or poolside gathering would also be fitting.

An essential consideration when attending any yacht event is the choice of footwear. It’s advisable to steer clear of heels – opting for flat shoes is a safer and wiser choice to ensure a comfortable and accident-free experience.

Yacht Shoe Ideas for Women

Accessorizing.

Donning both hats and sunglasses is entirely fitting aboard a yacht, and they provide an added shield against the sun’s rays, which is undoubtedly beneficial.

Not only will you seamlessly blend in, but you’ll also be safeguarding your eyes and skin from potentially harmful UV exposure. Including sunscreen in your essentials is equally crucial to ensure comprehensive protection.

yacht named casual

Amongst men, the favored ensemble for yacht journeys in motion often comprises a breezy, lightweight linen shirt, offering both comfort and composure throughout the excursion. Naturally, a pair of swim shorts is indispensable, ensuring you’re perpetually prepared for impromptu dips.

Completing the ensemble, opt for casual boat shoes that complement your yacht attire seamlessly.

Stylish sunglasses are essential to the maritime look as a vital accessory, effectively shielding your eyes from the sun’s glare.

While specific occasions may necessitate more refined apparel, such as dinner parties, these suggestions primarily focus on curating a laidback, relaxed aesthetic.

yacht named casual

Linen button-downs stand as the preferred choice for men while onboard due to their lightweight and breathable nature.

They have long been associated with boating, ensuring a harmonious fit within a yacht environment. Light cotton options also offer similar advantages, with items like polo shirts seamlessly blending into a crowd.

Even a well-chosen t-shirt can find its place, though appropriateness should be tailored to the context. However, a slightly elevated appearance may be preferable for slightly more formal outings or celebratory gatherings.

A great pair of tailored pants are a definite option for a day or night out on a yacht. Linen pants , chinos, or loose slacks are all versatile enough for any event.

Yet, a reliable pair of shorts proves invaluable if the yacht’s purpose involves active endeavors like fishing or sailing.

These offer comfort and freedom and ensure readiness for any unforeseen water-related situations.

In the realm of yacht wear, swim shorts emerge as a particularly pertinent item, given the likelihood of aquatic escapades. Whether you find yourself plunging into the Mediterranean or relaxing a jacuzzi, shorts are a pragmatic must-have.

Be it for leisure or the potential of an emergency scenario requiring a swift swim, swim shorts serve both purposes seamlessly.

Ensuring both security and comfort, boat shoes are an indispensable inclusion for any yacht experience as they prevent unwanted slipping on the deck. Sometimes referred to as deck shoes, they closely resemble loafers but include laces for added practicality.

For more relaxed outings, some opt for flip flops, which can be suitable for casual days spent with friends.

Accessories

Wearing sunglasses aboard a yacht transcends mere fashion, assuming the role of a vital shield against the sun’s unyielding glare and potentially harmful UV rays. As you sail on a maritime journey, these shades emerge as a reliable companion, diligently safeguarding your eyes from discomfort and potential long-term harm.

Whether you’re leisurely absorbing the sun’s warmth or actively engaging in water-based thrills, sunglasses exude an undeniable air of refined elegance, effortlessly elevating your yacht ensemble.

What Is Suitable to Wear to a Yacht Party?

Crafting the perfect attire for a yacht party involves a skillful equilibrium among comfort, style, and functionality, seamlessly embracing the maritime setting.

Embracing an effortlessly chic and laid-back approach, the careful curation of your outfit can significantly enrich your voyage across the waves.

Deciding on fabrics that prioritize breathability and lightness, such as linen or cotton, ensures your ease amidst the sea breeze. In the backdrop of daytime gatherings, a palette of soft and pastel hues, including serene blues and delicate pastels, imparts an invigorating and lively ambiance.

Opting for a versatile piece like a fashionable sundress, coupled with boat shoes that perfectly balance comfort and trendiness, encapsulates the essence of casual sophistication.

As twilight descends and the festivities extend into the evening, embracing darker shades introduces an element of refinement, harmonizing with the fading sunlight.

The thoughtful inclusion of tasteful accessories, like a wide-brimmed hat for enhanced sun protection and stylish sunglasses that shield your eyes and accentuate your maritime charisma, further elevate your ensemble.

Ultimately, the crux lies in aligning your attire with the occasion’s level of formality, while never compromising on comfort, and embodying an aesthetic that mirrors the serene allure of open waters.

Final Considerations

Embracing a fusion of refinement and casual ease emerges as a simple and effective strategy when considering yacht attire. While certain occasions might warrant a subtle refinement, the extent of this shift hinges upon the unique event and the preferences of the hosts.

Give precedence to fabrics like linen and other lightweight options to optimize comfort. An indispensable element to include is a pair of boat shoes, guaranteeing stability on the deck. Additionally, ensure you don’t neglect key essentials such as swimsuits and vital sun protection gear, which notably includes sunglasses.

Yacht Casual: The Style For Summer

mens yacht casual

Sun, sea, and sail away…With the warm summer approaching, we can expect a blissful change from our wardrobe staples, with a little bit of colour and more personality. If you’re lucky enough to own a yacht, know someone who does or taking a trip (be it paid) on a high-sea yachting experience, then there is a style perfect for this occasion. It’s mingled between casual and somewhat smart but, it’s definitely not casual…it is of course yacht casual.

Yacht causal as a style has all of the classic pretentious marks of you’d expect from such an activity that it’s associated with – classic polo shirts, pastel coloured shorts that could be fitting for the golf course, and of course boat shoes…we just can’t forget that, can we? However, whether you have any intention of spending time on the sea with a yacht you’re are pretending to own just for one day… yacht casual is a great look for almost every man, especially when they are in the sun, on holiday or a tropical paradise.

The look is somewhat preppy with undertones of sophistication but, yet it still allows you to take part in physical activities without looking silly. It’s great if you want to maintain that gentleman’s vibe whilst out exploring in the sun. So, thinking about going out into the sun whether home or away, we suggest that you have this style at hand.

What to you need to perfect yacht casual? There are many options of clothing and a variety of styles that you can go for, to get that yacht casual look…which is why this is such a great style for so many men. This is what you need to know to get yacht casual style right…

The Yacht Casual Shorts

The shorts are perhaps the quintessential feature of the yacht casual attire. Getting this right is key so take note… do away with shorts that are made of thick materials such as denim. You want light materials – after all, you are out in the sunshine. keep away from ridiculous patterns and camo – in the instance of camo you will likely stand out rather than blend in and not for the right reasons too. Also keep away from the cargo shorts, unless you are the skipper of your vessels, in need of the space to keep your compass and maps, those pockets are excessive. Instead, opt for the chino short, they define the style and are have a variety to go for too. If you’ree are unsure what exact colours of chinos shorts you be wearing to perfect the yacht casual look, we suggest the light and pastel colours without any patterns – though remember this isn’t’ a rule.

coloured chino shorts

The next option is seersucker – this is a thin all cotton puckered (wrinkled) fabric, commonly stripped and used for spring and summer wear. You can’t really go wrong with this along as you keep to the traditional colours and patterns.

seersucker shorts

The Yacht Casual Polo

If your having a more active day out then the polo shirt is a great option for achieving the yacht casual style. The colour you choose is dependent on the fabric and colour of the shorts you go for. If you are going for a classic khaki chino, then you could opt for darker coloured polo’s – such as navy blue. If you are choosing any other materials such as seersucker or light pastels chino’s, then light neutral coloured polo shirts are always the safest choice.

Polo shirt for yacht casual

The Yacht Casual Shirt

Not on board with the polo shirt? Then you will probably be drifting toward the button down shirt instead. The button down shirt is actually a much better option is you want to polish up the look a little more. This choice is a little more preppy but, greatly depends on the combination of the colours and patterns that you sport with both shorts and shirt. If you are thinking that it may get a little hot in a shirt…simply undo an extra button and roll up your sleeves – you can take the helm both looking cool and feeling it too.

What coloured shirt should I go for to get yacht casual right? Your best and option that always works is a simple yet effect white button down shirt, they go with perhaps everything. Other great options are checkered button down shirts – especially in blue, and fabrics such as linen are made for this season.

The Yacht Casual Shoes

This one’s easy as it’s in the name… yes , it’s, of course, the boat shoe! Simple classic brown or blue boat shoes are always the best options, they really make this look.

Brown boat shoes are the safest option as they work well with most combinations of shirts, and shorts. Blue will probably work best if you have very neutral light coloured shorts such as white. A final note is that in no circumstance should you walk out on deck wearing socks with boat shoes. If you find it uncomfortable either be sly and use low cut ankle socks that can’t be seen with the boat shoe or just put up with it.

boat shoes for yacht casual

The Yacht Casual Belt

Some of the shorts may not also need a belt if they have a cord around the waist – if this is the case the overall look tends to be slightly more relaxed but, where there are belt loops a belt must  be used. Make sure that the belt is not too smart looking, go for a more casual style – a brown leather belt is a lot more relaxed looking than black leather, and you can’t really go wrong with a leather woven belt. Other colours work well too especially if it’s a woven belt and there’s the option of the more casual canvas belt with the double D-ring buckle.

The Yacht Casual Watch

Sporting your best nautical watch is a must. If a Rolex Yachtmaster is slightly out of your price range at this moment, then a nice link watch that’s is your price range is always a good start. Similarly, a brown leather strap watch with a classic dial is alway a more elegant touch, or there’s always the nautical themed canvas strap watch, a great example is by Daniel Wellington.

If you're wondering what to wear to a yacht club, khaki pants with a navy blazer is a classic, timeless look that's not only appropriate but also stylish. Yacht clubs generally have a preppy, nautical vibe, and this outfit complements that aesthetic perfectly.

Start with a pair of slim-fitting khaki pants, which are a staple in any preppy wardrobe. The color is neutral enough to go with just about any outfit, and the slim fit adds a touch of modernity. Pair them with a classic navy blazer, which is an essential piece for any yacht club attire. The navy blazer is smart, sophisticated, and versatile, making it perfect for any occasion.

Underneath the blazer, a light, crisp button-down shirt will tie the whole outfit together. A simple white or light blue shirt keeps the look clean and classic, while a patterned or striped shirt adds a bit of personality. Finish the outfit with a pair of brown loafers or boat shoes, which are not only comfortable but also perfect for a day spent on deck.

You can accessorize with a pocket square or a tie, depending on the formality of the occasion. A patterned tie can add a pop of color and interest to the outfit, while a pocket square can add a more refined touch. However, if the occasion is more laidback, ditching the tie and pocket square is perfectly acceptable as well.

Overall, khaki pants with a navy blazer is a fail-proof outfit for any yacht club occasion. It's classic, sophisticated, and timeless, and you're sure to fit right in with the nautical crowd.

Pajama Perfect: Tips for the Ultimate Sleepover Look

Wearing clothes that are both comfortable and stylish can make your experience all the more enjoyable. For both men and women, pairing boat shoes with chinos is a great option that is always in fashion.

Boat shoes are a staple in any yacht club setting. They are both comfortable and fashionable, perfect for any outdoor activity. The non-slip sole and water-resistant material make them perfect for wearing on the docks or deck. There are many different styles and colors to choose from, so you can find the perfect pair to match your wardrobe.

Chinos are a great addition to any outfit and are a nice alternative to traditional jeans or shorts. They are lightweight and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Pairing them with boat shoes is a classic look that never goes out of style. They are perfect for a day spent lounging on the deck or walking around the yacht club.

When choosing chinos, it's important to select the right fit. Slim-fit chinos are very popular at the moment, but there are also regular and relaxed fits available. Stick with neutral colors like beige, navy, or khaki to create a classic look that will never go out of style. They are perfect for a day spent lounging on the deck or walking around the yacht club.

Accessories can also add to the overall look. For men, a leather belt and a watch can complete the look. For women, a scarf or sunglasses can be a nice addition. When deciding what to wear to a yacht club, it's important to keep in mind that you want to be comfortable but still look stylish and chic. With boat shoes and chinos, you can't go wrong!

Stylish Options for Men's Red Shorts Outfits

If you are wondering what to wear to a yacht club, one outfit option that is both chic and practical is a nautical-themed scarf and white jeans. This classic and timeless look is perfect for a day spent at the sea, and it’s versatile enough to make it suitable for both casual and formal events.

A well-crafted nautical-themed scarf is not only a great accessory, but it also adds an element of sophistication to the outfit. Navy blue, red, and white stripes or anchors are popular motifs for nautical-themed scarves, and they pair perfectly with white jeans. You can wear this scarf in a variety of ways, including around your neck, tied to your tote bag, or even as a headband.

White jeans are a summer wardrobe essential, and they work exceptionally well when paired with a nautical-themed scarf. They are cool, comfortable, and look great with a variety of tops. For a casual look, you can pair them with a simple white t-shirt or a navy blue sweater. For a more formal occasion, a blazer or a silk blouse will add a touch of glamour to your outfit.

To complete the nautical-themed look, you can accessorize with gold jewelry or anchor-shaped earrings. A woven straw bag is also a perfect accessory that complements white jeans and a nautical scarf. Wearing sandals or loafers is the perfect footwear choice for a yacht club. They are comfortable, practical, and add a touch of sophistication to your outfit.

In conclusion, a nautical-themed scarf and white jeans are a classic and timeless outfit for any yacht club event. Whether it's a casual brunch or a formal dinner party, this outfit is versatile and perfect for every occasion. Accessorize your outfit with gold jewelry, a woven straw bag, and loafers or sandals, and you are good to go.

Vail Style Guide: What to Wear for a Memorable Trip

If you're planning to hit the yacht club, it's important to make a good impression, and nothing exudes class and sophistication quite like a pastel polo shirt and khaki shorts. This timeless combination strikes the perfect balance between casual and dressy and is ideal for a day spent by the water.

A good quality pastel polo shirt is an essential item in any wardrobe. It's versatile enough to be dressed up or down and goes well with a variety of other pieces. Plus, a polo shirt is a classic look that never goes out of style. For the yacht club, make sure you choose a light, pastel color like baby blue, pink, or mint green. The soft color will complement the relaxed vibe of the yacht club perfectly.

Khaki shorts are another essential item for any yacht club outfit. They're casual yet stylish and have a distinct nautical feel to them. When choosing a pair of khaki shorts, make sure they're tailored to give you a sharp, polished look. Avoid baggy, ill-fitting shorts that can look sloppy.

When it comes to footwear, loafers are a great option. They're comfortable, stylish, and look great with polo shirts and shorts. Opt for a neutral color like brown or beige that will complement your outfit and ensure you're comfortable all day long.

Finally, accessorize with a leather belt to complete the look. A simple, classic leather belt is an understated addition to your outfit and will help bring your whole look together. Avoid any statement accessories that can distract from the classic, sophisticated vibe you're going for.

Overall, a pastel polo shirt and khaki shorts are the perfect outfit for a day spent at the yacht club. The casual yet dressy look is timeless and versatile, and it's sure to make a lasting impression. With a little attention to detail, you can craft the perfect outfit that exudes class and sophistication.

Stylish Pairings: Choosing the Perfect Shoes for a Leopard Print Dress

When heading to the yacht club, you want to make sure your outfit is both stylish and comfortable. The perfect outfit to wear to a yacht club event is a flowy maxi dress with wedges. This style is both elegant and comfortable, making it the perfect choice for spending time on the water.

A flowy maxi dress is perfect for any yacht club event because it allows for both comfort and sophistication. The dress’s long, flowy fabric is perfect for a sunny day out on the water, and it won’t constrict your movement as you move around the boat. Additionally, the dress’s elegant style exudes sophistication and class, making you feel confident and stylish.

Pairing the maxi dress with wedges completes the look. Not only do wedges give added height and elongate your legs, but they’re also more comfortable and easier to move around in than other types of heels. This comfortable and stylish combination will make you the envy of everyone on board.

When choosing a maxi dress, opt for a breezy fabric that will keep you cool in the heat. Light colors such as white, pastel pink or blue will make for a classic look, while bright and bold patterns can add a touch of fun to your outfit. Pair your dress with minimal accessories to keep the focus on the elegant and comfortable dress and wedges.

In conclusion, choosing a flowy maxi dress with wedges is the perfect outfit to wear to a yacht club event. This combination is both comfortable and stylish, allowing you to enjoy your day out on the water while looking good doing it. With the right choice of accessories, you’ll be the talk of the town, and most importantly, comfortable the whole day.

Spectator Style Guide: What to Wear to a Bodybuilding Show

If you're headed to a yacht club, you want to look refined and sophisticated, but also comfortable and stylish. And what better way to achieve that balance than with a pair of white linen pants and some loafers?

Linen is a great choice for warm weather, as it's light and breathable, and white is the perfect color for a nautical-themed event. You can pair the pants with a button-down shirt in a complementary color or a striped polo for a more casual look.

When it comes to footwear, loafers are a classic choice, offering both comfort and style. They're also versatile, and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. You could also opt for boat shoes, which are another classic choice for sailing or yacht club events.

To complete the look, consider adding some accessories such as a leather belt and a watch. A pair of sunglasses and a straw hat can also add a touch of sophistication while also keeping you protected from the sun.

Overall, white linen pants and loafers are the perfect choice for a yacht club event. They're comfortable, stylish, and the epitome of nautical elegance. Whether you're sailing the open water or enjoying the view from shore, you'll look and feel great in this classic look.

Dress to Impress: Quinceanera Guest Attire Guide

If you're planning on spending a sunny afternoon at the yacht club, dressing appropriately is a must. A sophisticated yet modern look that's perfect for such an event is cropped white pants paired with a boatneck top. This combination strikes the right balance between comfort, style, and elegance, allowing you to enjoy the day without compromising on fashion.

Cropped white pants are a versatile and trendy piece that can elevate any outfit. They are light and airy, making them perfect for warm weather. You can style them with a variety of tops, but a boatneck top is a great option because it adds a touch of refinement to the look. The boatneck cut is timeless and flattering, making it an excellent choice for any occasion.

When it comes to shoes, opt for comfortable yet stylish footwear that complements your outfit. You can never go wrong with a pair of classic loafers or boat shoes, which are effortless to wear and will keep your feet comfortable all day long. Avoid heels or wedges, as they can be challenging to walk in at a yacht club.

Accessorizing is also essential when completing this look. A tote bag is a practical and chic accessory that goes well with white cropped pants and a boatneck top. Choose a bag that's large enough to hold all your essentials such as sunglasses, sunscreen, and a water bottle. You can also add a statement bracelet or a pair of oversized earrings to add a touch of glamor to your outfit.

In summary, when attending a yacht club, choosing the right outfit is integral to ensuring a comfortable and stylish day. White cropped pants paired with a boatneck top is an excellent option for a sophisticated yet modern look. Accessorize with boat shoes, a tote bag, and statement jewelry to complete the look and exude confidence.

What to Wear at a Yacht Club for Lunch – Your Ultimate Guide!

What to wear at a yacht club for lunch

Heading to a yacht club for lunch can be an exciting experience, offering you the chance to relax and dine in an exquisite setting.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular attendee, choosing the proper attire is essential to ensure you fit in and feel comfortable.

This article will explore some of the best apparel choices to keep you looking stylish and appropriate for lunch at a yacht club.

Yacht clubs often uphold a certain level of elegance, but there’s no need to feel intimidated when selecting your outfit.

The key is to find a balance between being well-dressed and enjoying the casual ambiance. So here we go; below, you’ll find everything you need to know on what to wear at a yacht club for lunch.

Table of Contents

Yacht Club Dress Codes

Understanding dress codes.

When attending a lunch at a yacht club, it’s essential to understand the dress code beforehand. Yacht clubs typically have varying dress requirements depending on the event and time of day.

For a lunch event, you’ll most likely encounter a more casual dress code. It’s best to familiarize yourself with the club’s specific guidelines and adhere to them.

Common Yacht Club Dress Codes

At most yacht clubs, there are a few general rules to follow when dressing for lunch:

  • Shirts:  Opt for collared shirts like a classic polo or button-down. Avoid wearing tank tops or T-shirts.
  • Bottoms:  Choose comfortable and well-tailored pants, such as chinos or slacks. Shorts may be acceptable, but ensure they are a reasonable length and not too casual or distressed.
  • Footwear:  Wear closed-toe shoes like loafers or boat shoes. Don’t wear flip-flops. Yacht clubs don’t allow it.
  • Tops:  Select a blouse or a nice polished yet comfortable top. Avoid wearing strapless, revealing, or overly casual tops.
  • Bottoms:  Choose tailored pants, skirts, or dresses that are appropriate in length and style. Shorts are generally discouraged, although some yacht clubs may permit them if they are dressy and tailored.
  • Footwear:  Opt for comfortable and stylish footwear like flats, wedges, or sandals. The same as men, don’t wear flip-flops.

Lunch Clothing Options for Men

Formal attire.

When attending a yacht club for lunch and dressing in formal attire, opt for a classic combination of a crisp collared shirt, slacks, or chinos.

Ties are typically not necessary, but if you want to elevate your look, feel free to include one.

Light colors like white or pale blues are perfect for a summery vibe. Finish your outfit with comfortable loafers or boating shoes for a polished appearance.

Casual Attire

If you prefer a more casual approach, your options expand to include versatile pieces like polo shirts, t-shirts, or even tank tops, as long as they’re not too skimpy. Pair your top with boat shorts or loose pants to ensure comfort and a laid-back aesthetic.

Footwear-wise, swap the loafers for a pair of sandals or boat shoes that are easy to slip on and off at the dock.

When dressing for a yacht club lunch, keep it simple and remember that your comfort is key.

Choose lightweight and breathable fabrics, such as cotton and linen, to ensure you remain cool and stylish while enjoying the sea breeze.

A linen dress is a classic option. If you’re leaning more toward skirts, choose one that matches the dress code of the yacht club while still making you feel fashionable and comfortable.

Blouses and Pants

Lunch at a yacht club gives you the opportunity to experiment with different styles of blouses. Cotton and linen are the perfect materials for a summer blouse, providing a casual yet sophisticated look.

Pair your blouse with pants that are comfortable for the yacht setting, like tailored linen pants. Avoid overly tight or restrictive clothing. If you prefer jeans, opt for a dark wash to maintain a polished appearance.

Footwear Suggestions

Men’s footwear.

When it comes to men’s footwear at a yacht club for lunch, you’ll want to focus on practicality and style.

It’s important to wear  non-slip and non-marking outsole shoes to avoid slipping or marking the deck in case you get on board a boat.

Boat shoes are a popular and comfortable choice, offering a fashionable look while being yacht-appropriate.

If you prefer sandals, opt for sturdy ones that provide support and grip. Just remember, some boat owners may require you to leave your shoes on the dock before getting on board a yacht.

So you might want to have an alternative footwear option handy. Lastly, look for shoes with  white outsoles , as they don’t mark the deck, keeping the yacht clean and pristine.

Women’s Footwear

For women, the same basic principles apply. Make sure you choose shoes with a  non-slip and non-marking outsole  to avoid any accidents. Boat shoes and sturdy sandals are both fantastic options for combining style and practicality.

If your lunch takes place on a boat, don’t wear high heels , as they can be dangerous and may damage the deck. As mentioned above, you might be asked to leave your shoes on the dock, so having a backup pair is a good idea.

As with men’s footwear, opting for  white outsoles  ensures you won’t leave any marks on the boat, allowing you to focus on enjoying your lunch at the yacht club.

Accessorizing Your Outfit

When choosing jewelry for a yacht club lunch, aim for elegant but understated pieces. Stick to delicate necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, avoiding anything too flashy or clunky. For example, a simple gold or silver pendant can add the right touch of class without being over the top. Remember, you’re attending a lunch event, so keep your choices on the more casual side.

Hats and Sunglasses

Something that most yacht clubs forbid is wearing a hat inside the building.

This rule applies to both men and women. So if you plan to have lunch at the yacht club’s restaurant, you can’t wear a hat unless you sit on the yacht deck or on a balcony.

However, suppose you are allowed to wear one outside; opt for hats with wide brims or classic Panama hats to shield your face from the sun’s rays.

Sunglasses are another essential for a daytime event like a yacht club lunch. Look for pairs that offer full UV protection and complement your outfit. Classic shapes like aviators or wayfarers are versatile and timeless choices.

Just make sure your sunglasses don’t clash with your hat, and you’ll be well on your way to a perfectly accessorized outfit for a yacht club lunch.

Considering the Weather

When planning your outfit for a yacht club lunch, it’s important to consider the weather. In warmer temperatures, opt for light, breathable fabrics like linen or cotton.

A short-sleeved polo shirt or a blouse is an excellent choice for staying cool and comfortable. Women can also wear light sundresses or shorts with a tank top that isn’t too revealing.

In cooler or unpredictable weather, layering is key. Start with a collared shirt or a light blouse, and add a sweater or light jacket if needed.

Don’t forget to bring an umbrella or a water-resistant coat if there’s a chance of rain, and always have a pair of sunglasses on hand for those unexpectedly sunny moments.

When choosing your footwear, remember that you may be walking on wet surfaces or spending time outside. Avoid flip-flops and opt for non-slipping boating shoes , like Sperry, that offer both style and functionality. These shoes come in numerous styles, making it easy to find the perfect match for your outfit.

What to Avoid Wearing

When heading to a yacht club for lunch, there are a few fashion faux pas you should be mindful of. Remember, yacht clubs have a certain level of sophistication, and dressing appropriately is crucial.

First and foremost, avoid wearing any torn, stained, or worn clothing. Clothes with rips, holes, missing buttons, and stubborn stains are not suitable for the yacht club setting. Your outfit should be clean, well-maintained, and presentable.

As tempting as it may be to flaunt your summer style, steer clear of revealing clothing. Avoid items like denim shorts, tank tops, mini skirts, and cut-off shirts. Instead, opt for more modest attire that allows you to stay cool and look chic.

While you may love your comfortable flip-flops or sneakers, it’s not allowed to wear them to a yacht club lunch. These casual footwear options can come across as too casual and out of place. Instead, choose shoes that are stylish and comfortable but more refined.

Additionally, leave your baseball caps and other hats at home. Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue, so it’s best to stick to this etiquette and keep the caps for actual sailing excursions.

Lastly, avoid dressing too casually with clothing like wrinkled or sloppy attire. Yacht club lunches often have a semi-formal or smart casual dress code, so make sure your outfit is polished and well-balanced between casual and formal elements.

Questions People Forten Ask

Q: What is the typical dress code for a yacht club lunch?

Yacht clubs often have a more relaxed dress code during lunchtime. Stylish casual wear, including clean, neat jeans and shorts, is usually acceptable. However, it’s always a good idea to check with the specific yacht club for their dress code guidelines.

Q: How formal should my attire be for a yacht club lunch?

Although the attire for a yacht club lunch is less formal than dinner, you should still aim to look polished and presentable. Opt for refined and comfortable clothing, such as dressy shorts, skirts, or pants paired with an elegant top. You may also want to consider wearing a light blazer to elevate your look.

Q: Are there any specific clothing items to avoid at a yacht club?

When attending a yacht club event, it is best to avoid overly casual clothing items, such as flip-flops, athletic wear, or torn clothing. It’s also recommended to leave the denim at home when attending a yacht club dinner, as mentioned in The Sailor ‘s Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club. Different areas of the club may have specific dress rules, so it’s always good to inquire ahead of time.

Q: How does a daytime yacht club event differ in dress code?

Daytime events at yacht clubs tend to have a more relaxed dress code compared to evening events. For day events, it is appropriate to wear casual yet polished clothing like shorts, skirts, and light dresses. However, as the sun sets and nighttime events begin, expect the dress code to become more formal, often requiring sports coats or cocktail attire.

Q: Do yacht clubs have a specific dress code to follow when dining?

Yacht clubs usually have a more formal dress code for dining, especially during dinner. In most cases, sports coats are expected, and denim should be avoided. For ladies, sophisticated dresses or skirts with elegant tops are appropriate. Check with the yacht club you are attending to ensure you follow their specific rules and guidelines for dining attire.

Final Words!

Now that you have an idea of the appropriate attire, you’re set to enjoy a delightful lunch at the yacht club. Dress to impress, adhere to the dress code, and don’t forget to indulge in the delicious food and beautiful views the club has to offer.

What a beautiful website! This “how-to” type post was very informative about how to dress if you are having lunch at a yacht club. There are many practical suggestions that will make a first time visitor feel comfortable. This article provides all one needs to know about proper dress etiquette for yacht clubs in general.  Yacht clubs promote boating and cruising, and provide social meeting place for the boating community. Do you have to own a boat or sea vessel to join a yacht club? Do yacht clubs screen potential members financial standing or backgrounds before they are accepted? Do potential members have to be sponsored by a member of the yacht club to join? All I need now is to be invited to lunch at our local yacht club. I know just what to wear. Thanks.

What to Wear on a Yacht Dinner in 2024 – (Outfit Suggestions + Tips )

What to wear on a yacht dinner

  • April 16, 2023
  • Occasional Outfits

If you’re anything like me, the mere mention of a yacht dinner makes you feel like a sophisticated socialite from a James Bond film. But let’s be real; choosing an outfit for a yacht dinner can be tricky.

Do I go for casual and chic or formal and fabulous? And what shoes do I wear that won’t get stuck in the boat’s wooden planks?

As a seasoned yacht dinner attendee (okay, maybe I’ve only been to one, but let’s just pretend), I’m here to share some outfit suggestions that will have you looking like a million bucks on the high seas.

So, let’s set sail and dive into the world of yacht dinner fashion, shall we?

Dress Code Guidelines for Yacht Dinners

When it comes to yacht dinners, dressing appropriately is vital. Yacht dinners can range from formal events to more casual affairs, so it’s important to know what dress code you’re working with before choosing an outfit.

Here are some common dress codes for yacht dinners and some examples of appropriate and inappropriate outfits for each:

I. Formal Dress Code

If you’re attending a formal yacht dinner, it’s time to break out the fancy attire. Think of long dresses, gowns, and suits. Some appropriate outfit options for a formal yacht dinner include:

  • A floor-length gown or cocktail dress with statement jewelry and heels
  • A tuxedo with a bow tie and dress shoes

On the other hand, some inappropriate outfit choices for a formal yacht dinner include:

  • Short dresses, crop tops, or skirts that are too casual for the occasion
  • Sneakers or sandals

II. Casual Dress Code

A casual yacht dinner is a more relaxed affair, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still look chic. Here are some appropriate outfit options for a casual yacht dinner:

  • A sundress or skirt with flat sandals or espadrilles
  • Slacks or chinos with a collared shirt and loafers or boat shoes

Some inappropriate outfit choices for a casual yacht dinner include:

  • Athletic wear or workout clothes
  • Flip flops or beach sandals

By understanding the dress code guidelines for yacht dinners, you can ensure that you’re dressed appropriately and ready to have a good time on the high seas. But what other factors should you consider when choosing an outfit for a yacht dinner? Let’s find out in the next section.

Factors to Consider

Now that we’ve got a handle on yacht dinner dress codes, it’s time to talk about the factors that can influence your outfit choice. Regarding yacht dinners, there are a few things to consider to ensure you’re appropriately dressed for the occasion. Here are some factors to keep in mind:

The Type of Yacht Dinner

First, you’ll want to consider the type of yacht dinner you’ll be attending. Is it a formal event, like a charity gala or a wedding reception? Or is it a more casual affair, like a sunset cruise with friends?

The dress code will likely vary depending on the type of event, so make sure you know what you’re getting into.

The Location of the Yacht Dinner

The location of the yacht dinner can also play a role in your outfit choice. If it’s a dinner party in a marina, you might want to dress a bit more formally than if it’s a laid-back beach BBQ on the yacht.

Keep the weather and climate in mind when selecting your outfit. You don’t want to be shivering in a sleeveless dress or sweating in a heavy suit.

The Time of Day of the Yacht Dinner

Last but not least, the time of day of the yacht dinner can affect what you should wear. A daytime cruise might call for a more casual outfit, while an evening dinner party might call for something more formal.

Pay attention to the invitation and any dress code instructions to ensure you’re dressed appropriately.

What to Wear on a Yacht Dinner

Alright, sailors, now let’s get down to the important stuff – what to wear on a yacht dinner! We’ve covered the dress code guidelines and factors to consider, so now it’s time to dive into the fun part: outfit suggestions.

Below, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite looks for women and men, so let’s start with the ladies first:

Outfit Suggestions for Women

Whether you’re attending a formal charity gala or a casual sunset cruise, there’s a perfect outfit for every yacht dinner occasion. Let’s look at some outfit suggestions for women that will make you look fabulous on the high seas.

1. Formal Yacht Dinner Outfit Suggestions

You’ll want to go all out with your outfit for a formal yacht dinner. Think long dresses or gowns, statement jewelry, and elegant heels. Here are a few outfit ideas to get you started:

The Classic Black Gown

You can never go wrong with a classic black gown. Choose one with a fitted bodice and a flowing skirt for a timeless look. Add some sparkle with a statement necklace and earrings, and finish off the outfit with black heels.

Chic Jumpsuit

If you’re not a fan of dresses, a chic jumpsuit can be a great alternative for a formal yacht dinner. Choose one in a luxurious fabric, like silk or velvet, and pair it with strappy heels and statement earrings.

Floral Maxi Dress

For a more whimsical look, opt for a floral maxi dress in a light, flowy fabric. Choose a dress with a high-low hemline to show off your strappy heels. Add some sparkle with a statement bracelet or ring.

Shimmering Gold Dress

Make a statement in a shimmering gold dress that will catch the light just right as you cruise into the sunset.

2. Casual Yacht Dinner Outfit Suggestions

For a more laid-back yacht dinner, you can afford to be a bit more casual with your outfit. Think sundresses, skirts, and flat sandals or espadrilles. Here are some outfit ideas to inspire you:

Boho Maxi Skirt

For a boho chic look, pair a flowing maxi skirt with a simple tank top or blouse. Add some fringe sandals and a statement necklace to complete the look.

Linen Sundress

A linen sundress is perfect for a casual yacht dinner. Choose one in a light, breathable fabric and pair it with minimal jewelry and espadrilles.

Jumpsuit Romper

A jumpsuit romper is a perfect choice for a casual yacht dinner. Choose one in a playful print or bright color, and pair it with strappy sandals and minimal jewelry.

Flowy Midi Dress

A flowy midi dress is a great choice for a casual yacht dinner. Pair it with some comfortable sandals and minimal jewelry for a relaxed yet stylish look.

Striped Skirt and Blouse

A striped skirt paired with a simple blouse is a classic and stylish choice. Add some espadrilles and a cute clutch to complete the look.

Outfit Suggestions for Men

When it comes to men’s dressing for a yacht dinner, it’s important to strike the right balance between casual and formal. So, whether you’re attending a black-tie event or a more laid-back affair, here are some outfit suggestions for men:

For a formal yacht dinner, you’ll want to dress to the nines. Think tuxedos or suits, dress shoes, dress shirts, and ties or bow ties. Here are a few outfit ideas to get you started:

Classic Tuxedo

You can’t go wrong with a classic tuxedo for a formal yacht dinner. Choose one with a fitted jacket and trousers, and pair it with a crisp white dress shirt, black dress shoes, and a bow tie.

Three-Piece Suit

For a more modern take on formal wear, try a three-piece suit. Choose one in a neutral color, like navy or charcoal, and pair it with a white dress shirt, black dress shoes, and a tie in a complementary color.

Navy Blazer and Slacks

If you’re not a fan of full suits, a navy blazer and slacks can be a great alternative for a formal yacht dinner. Pair them with a white dress shirt, black dress shoes, and a patterned tie for a touch of personality.

Black Suit with Colorful Accessories

For a more playful look, pair a black suit with colorful accessories. Think a patterned dress shirt, a colorful pocket square, and a fun tie or bow tie.

For a more casual yacht dinner, you can afford to be a bit more relaxed with your outfit. Think slacks or chinos, collared shirts, and loafers or boat shoes. Here are some outfit ideas to inspire you:

Chinos and a Polo

For a classic, preppy look, pair chinos with a polo shirt in a complementary color. Add some boat shoes or loafers and a leather belt to complete the outfit.

Linen Button-Down and Shorts

For a more laid-back look, opt for a linen button-down shirt paired with shorts in a fun pattern or color. Finish off the look with boat shoes or sneakers.

Shorts and Collared Shirt

If it’s a particularly hot day, shorts can be a great option for a casual yacht dinner. Choose a pair in a neutral color, like khaki or navy, and pair them with a collared shirt in a complementary color. Add some boat shoes to finish off the outfit.

Colored Slacks and a White Shirt

For a more stylish look, pair colored slacks in a fun shade, like light blue or coral, with a crisp white dress shirt. Finish off the look with brown loafers or boat shoes.

Accessories to Complete the Look

Accessories are the icing on the cake when it comes to completing your yacht dinner outfit. They can add a pop of color, a touch of sophistication, or just that extra bit of style that sets you apart from the crowd.

So, without further ado, let’s talk about some accessories that can help you complete your yacht dinner look!

For women, a clutch or small crossbody bag can be a great choice for a formal yacht dinner. Opt for a neutral color like black, white, or metallic to complement your outfit. For a more casual dinner, a tote or beach bag can be a practical choice to hold your essentials.

For men, a leather briefcase or messenger bag can be a great option for a formal yacht dinner. For a more casual dinner, a canvas tote or backpack can be a practical choice to hold your essentials.

A pair of sunglasses can not only protect your eyes from the sun but also add a stylish touch to your outfit. For women, oversized or cat-eye sunglasses can be a great choice for a formal or casual yacht dinner. For men, aviator or wayfarer sunglasses can be a classic choice.

A hat can be a great accessory for a yacht dinner, especially if you’ll be spending time in the sun.

For women, a wide-brimmed hat can add a touch of glamor to a formal yacht dinner outfit. For a more casual dinner, a straw hat or baseball cap can be a practical and stylish choice.

For men, a fedora or Panama hat can be a great accessory for a formal or casual yacht dinner.

For women, statement jewelry can be a great way to elevate a formal yacht dinner outfit. Think chandelier earrings or a bold necklace. For a casual event, simple jewelry like stud earrings or a delicate necklace can be a good choice. For men, a watch can be a great accessory to complement a yacht dinner outfit.

We’ve reached the end of our yacht dinner outfit journey, and I hope you’ve found this guide both informative and entertaining. From understanding dress codes to picking the perfect accessories, it’s important to keep in mind the factors that come into play when dressing for a yacht dinner.

How to decide what to wear on a yacht

What activities will you be doing.

To determine what you should wear on a yacht, first think about the activities you will be doing. Will you be swimming? Snorkeling? Jet skiing? or simply relaxing on the deck? Each activity requires different clothing and accessories for comfort.

For example, you’ll want to bring a swimsuit if you are swimming or jet skiing. However, if it’s a more formal event, such as dinner and dancing, you’ll want to wear more dressier attire.

What is the weather like?

The weather is also an important factor in what to wear on a yacht. If it’s hot and sunny, shorts and t-shirt might be best. If it’s cold or raining, you may want to bring extra layers like a jacket or windbreaker that you can take off if it gets too hot.

What does the dress code say?

It’s also important to check for any dress codes that may be in place. If you’re attending a fancy event on the yacht, your attire should reflect it – don’t forget to check for any requirements, such as wearing formal attire or a specific color dress.

FAQ: What to wear on a yacht

Can you wear jeans on a yacht.

While there is no one-size-fits-all answer, it’s important to take into consideration the type of yacht you’ll be visiting and the occasion.

For casual trips aboard smaller vessels and day cruises, wearing jeans can be acceptable, depending on the context. For example, if the outing includes activities such as swimming or kayaking, a lightweight pair of jeans might be more suitable than something more formal.

What do you wear on a yacht day trip?

When it comes to dressing for a yacht day trip, comfort is key. Opt for comfortable yet stylish pieces that won’t limit your mobility. While Stiletto heels are not ideal for a day on the boat, sandals or wedges with good grip are perfect choices.

Additionally, dresses, skirts, rompers, and jumpsuits are great options to wear on a yacht day trip. You can opt for lightweight fabrics like cotton and linen or even a few pieces made of flowy fabric that won’t cling to your skin. If you’re feeling adventurous, try a pair of shorts with a flowy blouse for a relaxed but chic look.

Accessories are also important when it comes to dressing for a yacht day trip. A fun hat, sunglasses, and statement jewelry can all help make your outfit complete.

What do you wear on a yacht at night?

At night, you should aim to dress a bit more formally. Women can wear a dress or skirt with a nice blouse and some jewelry and add a blazer or cardigan if it’s chilly.

A nice pair of trousers with a top or blouse is also always appropriate. Footwear should be smart and comfortable, such as low-heeled pumps or sandals.

If you’re planning to go swimming later on, it’s best to bring a change of clothes, such as a swimming costume and cover-up. Accessorize with a clutch bag, statement necklace, or scarf for a stylish touch. Whatever you wear, be sure to feel comfortable and confident on the yacht.

Best designer sailing jackets: 6 top options for yacht club style

  • April 27, 2023

Sailing is about enjoying the elements, and to do this you need to be in kit which will protect you, but also be comfortable in. But we also want to be stylish. Luckily there are plenty of options out there which tick every box. Let's take a look at 6 of the best designer sailing jackets on the market right now...

best-designer-sailing-jackets

We have all been in the position where an impromptu celebratory visit to the pub/restaurant/yacht club has been sprung upon us immediately after hitting the dock. Many have also witnessed the aftermath of crews still celebrating hours later, still in functional sailing clothing which doesn’t really belong on dry land.

Full thermal pyjamas can be excused on a very rare victorious occasion, and slightly more acceptable is the dance floor moves in leather sailing boots . I’m sorry to point out that a bowman still in dinghy boots and a harness at the bar has never, and will never, be a good look.

It must also be accepted that more needs to be done to protect our planet, so having a sailing jacket which works perfectly well in a multitude of environments really does make sense and also cuts down on the amount of stuff we have filling our wardrobes, and ultimately landfill. So buying quality and buying once really does make sense.

Luckily in sailing there has been a long tradition of combining style with elegance, not only in what we travel the seas on but also what we wear whilst doing so.

Whether a you’re a keen teen concerned about looking your best in your social updates or a seasoned cruiser who wants to hit the dock and head straight to that lovely little family run restaurant with the best local fayre and wine list, we are here to show you some of the best designer sailing jackets available.

Made from gore-tex, you can guarantee that the protection against the elements is as good as it can be. You can close out the weather with a full-length zip and using the adjustment on the hood and the bottom of the jacket, plus the branded cuff straps.

It’s hard to nail down why this jacket looks so much more stylish than others – but it really does. The subtle red stripe of the Prada logo is far from ‘in your face’ and this jacket certainly wouldn’t look out of place in the centre of any famous fashion centre.

Helly Hansen Crew Insulator 2.0

Warm outdoor experts option

-Very clean design -Lightweight and warm

-Not quite the same levels of waterproofing as others

These puffer-style thermal jackets have always been essential for outdoor activities, of which Helly Hansen is a market leader. Slowly but surely this style of jacket has morphed, reducing bulk and venturing down from the mountains to be a staple of many city landscapes.

Although not quite at the waterproof levels of some other featured jackets here, it does still deflect the odd shower and really does offer fantastic city appeal. A superb and fresh casual jacket, the Crew Insulator is able to handle both urban and ocean environments.

What it does do, it does extremely well. It’s very warm and lightweight and is also perfect as a thermal layer. Henri Lloyd Consort 65 Jacket

The classic sailing jacket revisited

-A classic jacket rooted in history and adventure -Updated with modern fabrics but still the original look

-Not the best for the serious racers -No hood

At a time when adventure was really at the core of sailing, when the first colour film footage of extreme conditions from mid ocean could be witnessed ashore, when the washed-out coloured tones showed exactly how tough the famous 60s and 70s ocean pioneers had it, Henri Lloyd gave us the Consort jacket.

Now celebrating 60 years in the business, the team at Henri Lloyd are giving us updated versions of all the old classics, such as this sailing jacket, which is now regularly seen in the trendiest neighbourhoods around the planet. (something which certainly isn’t new to Henri Lloyd after several forays into pop culture fashion trends over the years).

The jacket, as worn in many an ocean passage, gives you great weather protection – but it does lack a hood. Its size and comforting coverage is great for a cooler days of cruising, but probably not quite as ideal for your racing bow team.

Sturdy zips and a storm flap to the front, combined with the velcro adjustable cuffs will help to keep the outside out. The quilted inside will keep you nice and cosy too.

This jacket doesn’t give you any options of colours, or linings, but when originally conceived there would not have been any choices anyway! It does however represent a time in our history of exploration and adventure with a classic, almost ageless, look.

Musto Snug Jacket 2.0

The sailing jacket which helped create an empire

-A classic with much support -Iconic 80s style – now coming back

-The look is now one of the most copied

Musto started as a sailing brand but adapted and filled the whole outdoor market, succeeding in every corner they occupy. A huge part of this dominance came from their understanding of what works well, and the Musto Snug is a classic example of this.

The 80s look really is flooding the streets and influencing styles once again. The latest item from this decade to get the reboot, the Musto Snug Jacket is still immediately recognisable 35 years on.

Moments after appearing on the scene it went on to dominate not just the latter 80s, but the 90s and beyond. This item really did start a revolution within sailing.

It can put up with a decent shower and can keep you warm. It looks good on the way to the yacht club and there is plenty of room for your essentials in the pockets (luckily mobile phones have become significantly smaller since the bricks that graced the 80s).

Good as an outer layer or under more specific wet weather gear, this design is still as versatile as it was when it first hit the waves.

March 27, 2024 - Baltimore Key Bridge collapse

By Kathleen Magramo , Antoinette Radford, Alisha Ebrahimji , Maureen Chowdhury , Elise Hammond , Tori B. Powell and Aditi Sangal , CNN

Our live coverage of the Baltimore bridge collapse has moved here .

Here's what you should know about the Key Bridge collapse

From CNN staff

A Marine Emergency Team boat passes the wreckage of the Dali cargo vessel in Baltimore on Tuesday.

Officials recovered the bodies of two construction workers who were on Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge when it collapsed early Tuesday morning after a 984-foot-long cargo ship collided into a pillar.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore called the collapse Wednesday " a global crisis ."

"The national economy and the world's economy depends on the Port of Baltimore. The port handles more cars and more farm equipment than any other port in the country," Moore said.

Here's what you should know:

  • The victims: The six people who are presumed dead were from Mexico Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, according to Col. Roland L. Butler Jr, the superintendent of Maryland State Police. Two bodies were recovered and have been identified as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes from Mexico and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera from Guatemala. The two workers were filling potholes on the bridge and were later found trapped in a red pickup truck in about 25 feet of water, Butler said. The FBI is handling notifying the victims' families, Butler said.
  • Recovery efforts: Authorities are pausing search efforts for the four other workers who are presumed dead, because additional vehicles are encased in concrete and other debris, making it unsafe for divers, Butler said. Once salvage operations clear the debris, divers will search for more remains, he said.
  • The investigation: The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the fatal incident, according to the agency's chair Jennifer Homendy. During a Wednesday news conference, Homendy said there were 21 crew members and two pilots on board the Dali cargo ship when it crashed into the bridge. She also said a senior NTSB hazmat investigator identified 56 containers of hazardous material, and that some containers are in the water. The agency received six hours of voyage data from the ship and the investigation could take 12 to 24 months to complete, Homendy said. She emphasized that NTSB will not analyze information collected or provide conclusions while on scene of the collapse.
  • Looking forward: Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said rebuilding the bridge will not be "quick or easy" but that it will get done. He said there are four main focus points ahead: reopening the port, dealing with supply chain issues until its reopening, rebuilding the bridge and dealing with traffic issues until the bridge is rebuilt. Biden  pledged the full support  of the federal government in the response and recovery efforts. His administration has already conveyed a sense of urgency to open up federal funding to remove debris and ultimately rebuild the bridge. Maryland has submitted a request to the Biden administration for emergency relief funds "to assist in our work going forward," Moore said Wednesday.

It's almost impossible to place people on the bow of ship due to the unstable structure, fire official says

 From CNN's Sarah Engel

Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace said Wednesday that the cargo ship's bridge structure and containers at the bow remain unstable.

"It's going to be very difficult, if not impossible, and very dangerous, to place people on the bow of that boat right now," Wallace told CNN's Kaitlan Collins.

"Naturally, we're still very cognizant of the fact that there are hazardous materials on board the vessel itself," Wallace said, alluding to the National Transportation Safety Board saying earlier that 56 containers were carrying hazardous materials.

Wallace said his team is relying heavily on aerial recognizance, including drones. "That's the only way we're able to see in," he said.

He added that the aerial surveillance has "been able to really assure us right now we have no [chemical] reactions on board."

"It's just utter devastation," NTSB chief says of the bridge collapse site

From CNN's Aditi Sangal

Jennifer Homendy, chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, called the site of the Key Bridge collapse "devastating."

"It's pretty devastating, certainly, seeing not just what's going on with the cargo containers, but just looking at what was a bridge span — three bridge spans that is pretty much gone. It's just utter devastation," she said at Wednesday evening's news briefing.

She added that she is thinking of families who lost loved ones and those who are waiting to reunite with their lived ones.

NTSB interviewed the Dali's captain and some other crew members today, agency chief says

The National Transportation Safety Board has interviewed the ship's captain, his mate, the chief engineer and one other engineer today, according to Chair Jennifer Homendy.

The two pilots on board the Dali at the time of collision will be interviewed tomorrow, she added.

Cargo ship's voyage data recorder is basic when compared to an airplane's, NTSB chair says

From CNN's Tori B. Powell

The voyage data recorder on the cargo ship Dali was a "newer model" but is considered basic when compared to that on an airplane, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.

"But it is very basic compared to say, a flight data recorder, where we would have 1,000 parameters," she said at a news conference on Wednesday.

The NTSB chief investigator Marcel Muise added:

"It's not a ship-wide system recorder, so most of the sensors that are being recorded are from the bridge. So things like GPS, the audio, rudder feedback, rudder commands are recorded on there. But not engineering, the temperature of each cylinder, power distribution sensors."

There were no tug boats with Dali at the time of the collision. That's normal, NTSB chief says

People look at the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge while visiting Fort McHenry in Baltimore on Wednesday.

There were no tugs with Dali when the cargo vessel collided with Baltimore's Key Bridge, which is normal protocol, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.

Remember: At 01:26:39 on Tuesday, Dali's pilot made a general very high frequency (VHF) radio call for tugs in the vicinity to assist, the NTSB investigator Marcel Muise had said.

"The tugs help the vessel leave the dock, leave the port and get into the main ship channel. And then they leave. Once it's on its way, it's a straight shot through the channel. So there are no tugs with the vessel at the time. So they were calling for tugs," she said.

NTSB chair says she saw some containers that were carrying hazardous materials in the water

National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy said she did see some of the 56 containers that were carrying hazardous materials in the water.

When asked how many

When asked how many containers of hazardous materials were in the water, Homendy said:

"I did see some containers in the water, and some breached significantly on the vessel itself," she said. "I don't have an exact number, but it's something that we can provide in an update."

Homendy said that a preliminary report should be out in two to four weeks.

This post has been updated with more quotes from Homendy.

Bridge did not have any redundancy, unlike the preferred method for building bridges today, NTSB chair says

Baltimore's Key Bridge did not have any redundancy, which is included in the preferred method of building bridges in the present day, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.

"The bridge is a fracture critical," she explained. "What that means is if a member fails that would likely cause a portion of, or the entire bridge, to collapse, there's no redundancy. The preferred method for building bridges today is that there is redundancy built in, whether that's transmitting loads to another member or some sort of structural redundancy. This bridge did not have redundancy," Homendy said.

There are 17,468 fracture critical bridges in the United States out of 615,000 bridges total, she said, citing the Federal Highway Administration.

A yacht captain uniform is a traditional and recognizable outfit worn by captains of yachts. It is characterized by a white background with navy blue stripes, a shoulder strap with gold buttons, and a cap with the same striped pattern. The traditional look of the uniform is intended to evoke a sense of authority and respect for the captain’s position on board the vessel. The uniform also serves as an important part of the content that passengers and guests will see when they board the yacht, as it conveys a sense of professionalism and experience. Whether you are looking to purchase or rent a yacht captain uniform for yourself or your crew, it’s important to understand what makes up this traditional outfit so you can make sure you have all the necessary pieces.

Yacht captain Uniform

When it comes to the world of luxury yachting, the captain’s uniform holds a significance akin to that of the vessel itself. It goes beyond being a mere outfit; it is a representation of the captain’s authority, professionalism, and, importantly, it sets the overall ambiance for both the crew and guests on board. A captain’s uniform serves as an unmistakable marker of rank and authority, with options available in a diverse array of colors, styles, and fabrics to suit any occasion.

Dress uniforms, often donned in navy blue and white, can also be found in black and white or red and white variations. An essential accessory to the captain’s uniform is the sailor hat, typically crafted from wool or cotton and available in various colors to complement the overall ensemble. When adorning a captain’s uniform, it is crucial to bear in mind that it not only represents the rank but also the individual wearing it. Careful consideration of color and style is paramount, reflecting personal flair and ensuring a distinctive presence.

Transitioning to the attire specifics, a yacht captain’s uniform is a meticulously chosen ensemble that communicates volumes about their authority and professionalism. It typically consists of a pristine white long-sleeved button-up shirt , paired with navy blue trousers and a well-fitted navy blue blazer adorned with gold or brass buttons. The emphasis is on maintaining the shirt’s crispness, the trousers’ sharp crease, and the blazer’s impeccable condition, devoid of any signs of wear and tear.

In addition to the classic uniform, captains often choose to elevate their professional appearance by incorporating a hat or cap, frequently embroidered with the yacht’s logo or name. This not only adds a touch of sophistication but also aids in easy identification for both guests and crew members.

While the traditional uniform remains popular, a noticeable trend, particularly on larger yachts, sees captains embracing a more modern look – opting for a tailored suit and tie that radiates professionalism and refinement.

F ootwear forms a critical aspect of the yacht captain’s uniform. Closed-toe shoes, like loafers or deck shoes, are favored for their comfort and support during vessel navigation. The importance of maintaining clean and scuff-free shoes cannot be overstated, contributing to an overall polished appearance.

To summarize, a yacht captain’s uniform is not just a set of clothes; it serves as a visual embodiment of their authority, professionalism, and meticulous attention to detail. It plays a pivotal role in establishing the tone for the entire crew and significantly contributes to the luxury yachting experience. Regardless of the chosen style – be it traditional or modern – ensuring that the uniform is clean, well-fitted, and in impeccable condition is of utmost importance.

Further enhancing the ensemble are key accessories. A watch, beyond its time-telling function, symbolizes precision and attention to detail. A matching belt for trousers and shoes, accompanied by a captain’s badge or pin, adds the perfect finishing touch while aiding in easy identification for guests and crew.

Comfort remains paramount for yacht captains, who spend substantial time on their feet. The uniform, constructed from breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics, guarantees a cool and dry experience, particularly on warm summer days. Ease of movement is equally vital, allowing captains to navigate the vessel seamlessly.

During off-duty hours, some yacht captains may opt for a more casual uniform, featuring a polo shirt or a casual button-up paired with khaki trousers or shorts. This relaxed attire, while less formal, still adheres to cleanliness and maintenance standards, underscoring the captain’s unwavering commitment to professionalism.

In essence, the yacht captain uniform is an integral facet of the luxury yachting experience, symbolizing authority and setting the tone for the entire onboard environment. Captains are encouraged to invest time in selecting a comfortable, well-fitted, and impeccably maintained uniform, paying meticulous attention to every detail, including accessories, footwear, and overall presentation.

Who are the victims in Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse? What we know about those missing and presumed dead

By Adam Thompson

Updated on: March 28, 2024 / 6:16 PM EDT / CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE - Six workers missing after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed early Tuesday morning are presumed to be dead, the U.S. Coast Guard announced after a day of search and rescue efforts.

The search for the six became a recovery effort Tuesday evening. Two bodies were recovered from the site of the collapse in a red pickup truck Wednesday morning.

State Police said the search has moved to a salvage effort because officials believe vehicles are encased in the bridge debris, and divers are no longer able to operate around the debris.

The span was struck by a cargo ship shortly after it left the Port of Baltimore early Tuesday morning.

Officials say that eight people were working on the bridge at the time of the collapse. Two people were rescued from the water shortly after Tuesday's collapse. One of the rescued workers was unhurt, the other was treated at the University of Maryland Medical Center and has been discharged.

Who were the bridge collapse victims?

The men were working for Brawner Builders, filling potholes on the center span of the bridge, at the time of the collapse. They were originally from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico,.

One of the missing workers from El Salvador was identified as Miguel Luna by the nonprofit organization CASA.

"He is a husband, a father of three, and has called Maryland his home for over 19 years," CASA executive director Gustavo Torres said in a statement Tuesday night, noting Luna was a "longtime member of the CASA family."

A former coworker, Moises Diaz, described Luna as a kind person who worked hard and always shared his food with other workers and friends. In an interview with CBS News, Diaz said he considered Luna like a brother.

Maryland State Police identified the two men found in the red pickup truck as  Dorlian Cabrera , 26, who was originally from Guatemala and lived in Dundalk; and Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes,  35, who lived in Baltimore and was from Mexico.

The Honduran Consulate confirmed  Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandoval, 34, was among the missing. His brother, Carlos Alexis, described him as a kind, big-hearted and funny family man who came to the U.S. when he was about 20. He had a teenage son and a 5-year-old daughter.

Jose Mynor Lopez, 35, was originally from Guatemala. His wife, Isabel Franco, told WJZ he moved to the U.S. 19 years ago and was a loving father to their child and three stepchildren

"He had a good heart. He was a hard worker. He was always worried about his family too. He died but he was fighting for us always," she said in Spanish.

The sixth victim, a man named Carlos whose full name has not been released, was also from Mexico.

Recovery mission ongoing

Search and rescue operations were suspended at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday as officials transitioned to recovery efforts.

"Based on the length of time that we've gone in this search, the extensive search efforts that we've put into it, the water temperature — that at this point we do not believe that we're going to find any of these individuals still alive," Coast Guard Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath said Tuesday evening.

Divers went back into the murky water Wednesday morning. The Coast Guard is leading the recovery mission.

"This was so completely unforeseen," Jeffrey Pritzker, executive vice president of Brawner Builders, told The Associated Press. "We don't know what else to say. We take such great pride in safety, and we have cones and signs and lights and barriers and flaggers. But we never foresaw that the bridge would collapse."

On Tuesday, a major bridge in Baltimore collapsed into the water seconds after it was struck by a cargo ship, sending vehicles on the bridge into the river below. The ship lost power and issued a mayday call shortly before it hit the bridge.

A video shows the cargo ship striking the bridge and the resulting collapse of the bridge.

The ship, a 948-foot-long cargo vessel called Dali, was about a half hour into its journey toward Colombo, Sri Lanka, when it hit a main pillar of the bridge. All crew members are safe, according to the ship’s owners.

Follow our live coverage .

A mayday call from the ship gave officials enough time to stop traffic at both ends of the bridge. The waters where the bridge collapsed are about 50 feet deep. By Tuesday morning, six construction workers who had been fixing potholes on the bridge remained missing as divers and other emergency workers on boats and helicopters continued to search for them. Two others had been rescued, and one was in the hospital.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge was opened in 1977 and carried more than 12.4 million vehicles last year. The bridge was one of the three major ways to cross the Patapsco River and formed part of Baltimore’s beltway.

The Port of Baltimore is a major trade hub that handled a record amount of foreign cargo last year. It is an especially important destination — the nation’s largest by volume last year — for deliveries of cars and light trucks.

Overall, Baltimore was the 17th biggest port in the United States in 2021, ranked by total tons, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The bridge collapse brought marine traffic there to a standstill, with seven cargo or tanker ships stranded in the harbor as of Tuesday afternoon.

Gov. Wes Moore declared a state of emergency for Maryland and said that his office was in close communication with Pete Buttigieg, the U.S. transportation secretary. The White House issued a statement saying that President Biden had been briefed on the collapse.

Producer who accused Sean 'Diddy' Combs adds Cuba Gooding Jr. to sexual assault, harassment lawsuit

A music producer who filed a lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs last month has now accused actor Cuba Gooding Jr. of sexually harassing and assaulting him, an amended federal complaint filed Monday night shows.

The amended civil complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan hours after federal officials searched Combs’ homes . Combs is a subject of a federal investigation, and several people have been interviewed by federal officials in Manhattan in relation to allegations involving sex trafficking, assault, illegal narcotics and firearms, a source familiar with the matter told NBC News.

Representatives for Combs, 54, did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment Monday.

The producer, Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, filed his original lawsuit against Combs and others in February, alleging that Combs forced him to procure sex workers and pressured him to engage in unwelcomed sex acts with them.

The amended suit alleges that Gooding groped Jones while on Combs’ yacht.

An attorney and representatives for Gooding did not immediately respond to requests for comment late Monday.

Gooding “began touching, groping, and fondling Mr. Jones’ legs, his upper inner thighs near his groin, the small of his back near his buttocks, and his shoulders,” Jones’ the suit states.

Jones “was extremely uncomfortable and proceeded to lean away from Mr. Gooding Jr.,” the lawsuit says. “He rejected his advances and Mr. Gooding Jr. did not stop until Mr. Jones forcibly pushed him away.”

Attorneys for Jones said in the lawsuit that the incident happened on a yacht rented by Combs in the U.S. Virgin Islands in January 2023. It accused Gooding of sexual assault and misconduct.

Gooding has not been charged with any crime.

In a different case, Gooding pleaded guilty in 2022 to a misdemeanor charge that he forcibly kissed a worker at a New York nightclub in 2018.

He completed alcohol and behavior modification counseling, was then allowed to withdraw that plea and then pleaded guilty to a lesser harassment violation, resolving the case with no jail time .

On Monday, federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations executed search warrants at properties belonging to Combs in Los Angeles and Miami, sources told NBC News.

There has been no information connecting Gooding to any of the searches, and it is not clear what the searches entailed.

Combs has been accused of misconduct in civil cases filed by four women. One was quickly settled and three are pending . Combs has denied the allegations in those lawsuits.

“Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth,” he said in a December statement.

Image:

Jones said in the lawsuit that he worked on Combs’ latest album, “The Love Album: Off the Grid.” The album was released in September 2023 and was nominated for a Grammy.

The suit alleges , in part, that Motown Records, and others, benefited from his work on the album, but that he was not fully compensated.

Monday’s amended complaint filed by attorneys for Jones contains a declaration by former Motown Records CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam who it appears to show her willing to testify about the contract involving “The Love Album.”

A spokesperson for Universal Music Group, which owns Motown Records, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The lawsuit seeks damages, including punitive damages, but does not specify an amount, seeking amounts to be determined at trial.

a ship is stuck under a bridge

Baltimore bridge collapse: at least six missing as Biden laments ‘terrible accident’

Mayor says rescue efforts continuing after cargo vessel hit Francis Scott Key Bridge, sending vehicles into the water

A frantic search-and-rescue effort continued on Tuesday hours after a major bridge in Baltimore , Maryland, snapped and collapsed when a container ship collided with it in the early morning, sending a number of vehicles into the water.

Baltimore fire department officials said at least six construction workers were still missing, after reports that a 948ft Singapore-flagged container ship leaving port on its way to Sri Lanka had crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Jeffrey Pritzker, a senior executive at Brawner Builders, the employer of the construction workers, said Tuesday afternoon that they were presumed dead, given the water’s depth and the length of time since the crash. Pritzker said the crew had been working in the middle of the bridge when it came apart. No bodies have been recovered. “This was so completely unforeseen,” Pritzker said. “We don’t know what else to say. We take such great pride in safety, and we have cones and signs and lights and barriers and flaggers. But we never foresaw that the bridge would collapse.”

A report from the Baltimore Banner earlier said the were construction workers from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico who are in their 30s and 40s, with spouses and children.

Officials added that up to 20 people and several vehicles had fallen into the river and declared it a “mass casualty event”.

A video posted on X appeared to show the vessel striking one of the bridge’s central supports, causing much of the 2.6km bridge to give way as a number of vehicles fell into the Patapsco River below.

Joe Biden addressed the bridge collapse in a public briefing about midday, saying that all indications were that it was a “terrible accident” rather than an “intentional act”.

The president also said he was thinking of those who remained unaccounted for amid the search and rescue efforts around the bridge, a key traffic artery whose destruction is also expected to cause months of travel disruption in a city with more than 575,000 residents.

“We’re with you. We’re going to stay with you as long as it takes,” said Biden, adding that he intended to travel to Baltimore as soon as possible. “You’re Maryland tough. You’re Baltimore strong.”

US government to pay for Baltimore bridge reconstruction, says Biden – video

Officials said the ship issued a mayday as it went off course and seemed to lose power, which Baltimore officials said allowed them to prevent more vehicles from coming on to the bridge. The ship then appeared to catch fire as part of the bridge collapsed over it, sending plumes of thick, black smoke into the air.

Two people have been rescued, with one of them “severely” injured and in critical condition, officials said in a pre-dawn press conference. There were reports that there were workers on the bridge engaged in basic road maintenance when the collision occurred.

The temperature in the river was about 47F (8C) in the early hours of Tuesday, according to a buoy that collects data for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

From a vantage point near the entrance to the bridge, jagged remnants of its steel frame were visible protruding from the water, with the on-ramp ending abruptly where the span once began. “All lanes closed both directions for incident on I-695 Key Bridge. Traffic is being detoured,” the Maryland transportation authority posted on X. “I-695 Key Bridge collapse due to ship strike. Active scene,” it later added.

Calls to 911 had come in at about 1.30am, reporting a vessel travelling outbound from Baltimore that had struck a column on the bridge, causing it to collapse, said Kevin Cartwright, the director of communications for the Baltimore fire department. Several vehicles were on the bridge at the time, including one the size of a tractor-trailer.

“Our focus right now is trying to rescue and recover these people,” Cartwright said. He added that it was too early to know how many people were affected but described the collapse as a “developing mass casualty event”.

Cartwright said it appeared that there were “some cargo or retainers” that appeared to be dangling from the bridge, creating unsafe and unstable conditions that were complicating the rescue operation. “This is a dire emergency,” he said.

Matthew West, a petty officer first class for the coastguard in Baltimore, told the New York Times that the coastguard received a report of an impact at 1.27am ET. West said the Dali, a 948ft (290-metre) Singapore-flagged cargo ship, had hit the bridge, which is part of Interstate 695.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) confirmed that the vessel was registered in Singapore and said the agency was coordinating with the US Coast Guard and the ship’s management company to help. It also said it would investigate the incident itself.

There were 22 crew onboard at the time of the incident, Singapore said.

The shipping company Maersk said that it chartered the container ship in Baltimore, with the operator named as Synergy Marine Group. Maersk confirmed that there were 22 crew, and said they were all Indian. None of them were Maersk crew or personnel.

It added that there were 4,679 containers on board, roughly half of its 10,000 capacity.

“We are horrified by what has happened in Baltimore, and our thoughts are with all of those affected,” the company said in a statement.

The Dali had left Baltimore at 1am and was heading for the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, according to the maritime data platform MarineTraffic. Synergy Marine Group, the manager of the Dali, confirmed that the ship had collided with one of the pillars of the bridge. It said all crew members, including the two pilots, had been accounted for and there were no reports of any injuries.

“Whilst the exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined, the Dali has now mobilised its qualified individual incident response service,” it said.

The same vessel was also involved in a collision in 2016 in Antwerp, Belgium, according to Vessel Finder and the maritime incident archive Shipwrecklog.

Its bow reportedly scraped the side of the quay while it was leaving port, significantly damaging several meters of the hull, and it was reportedly detained by authorities afterward.

According to Vessel Finder , the weather was fine at the time and the incident was blamed on the ship’s master and pilot on board. There were reportedly no injuries.

The Baltimore mayor, Brandon M Scott, called Tuesday’s collision an “unthinkable tragedy” at a press conference held as dawn broke on Baltimore. “Never would you imagine” seeing the bridge collapse, he added. “It looked like something out of an action movie.”

Asked how long it would take to rebuild the bridge, he said: “The discussion right now should be about the people, the lives, the souls … there are people in the water that we have to get out and that’s the only thing we should be talking about.”

He and the county executive, Johnny Olszewski Jr, said emergency personnel were at the scene and rescue efforts were under way.

Officials added that there was “absolutely no indication that there was any terrorism or that this was done on purpose”.

The Maryland governor, Wes Moore, said in a statement that he had declared a state of emergency.

He said the ship had lost power around the time when the cargo ship hit the Key Bridge, and the crew issued a “mayday” request. Moore said that officials were able to slow the flow of traffic, preventing more vehicles from falling into the water.

“These people are heroes. They saved lives last night,” Moore said, adding that Baltimore was working with an interagency government team to quickly deploy federal resources from the Biden administration.

Moore added the bridge was “fully up to code” before Tuesday’s accident and that rebuilding the bridge would be a long-term effort.

In a statement, the White House said it was “closely monitoring” the events. “The US Coast Guard is conducting search and rescue for those who remain unaccounted for as a result of the bridge collapse,” it said. “Senior White House officials are in touch with the governor and mayor to offer any federal assistance they need. There is no indication of any nefarious intent.”

It added that “our hearts go out” to the victims and families of what it called a “horrific incident”.

Built in 1977, the bridge spans the Patapsco River, a vital artery that along with the Port of Baltimore is a hub for shipping on the US’s east coast. It is named for the author of the American national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner.
