Experience with Dream Yacht Charter (owner & guest)?

  • Add to quote

I am considering a charter management program to finance a boat. Does anyone have experience with Dream Yacht Charter? Two options seem to be interesting for me: Dream easy: 35% upfront + 25% balloon payment -> here the question is if I get at least a partial owner's title on the boat? (for the case of insolvency) Partnership: 55% upfront -> I suppose this one comes with a 1/1 title. I know this is not the king of investments but 40% value loss over 5 years seems realistic, probably this is the cheapest way to manage ~4weeks/year sailing time.

Hello, What are your goals for the boat - charter then sell or take over after? I just returned from a charter with DYC - people were great. Boat was a 2014 - in terrible shape. Mechanically sound and rigging was good but surface wise she was beat up and not taken care of. I have made a formal 'complaint ' with DYC and still waiting for their reply.

I was in the BVIs (3 weeks ago) and I was not the boat owner. A refit for her, based on my standards would be a complete interior renovation of cupboards/appliances/flooring/blinds, wiring and control assessment and replacement, deck refurbishing. Hull was scratched up but acceptable. Nav electronics were useless - kept shutting down. The lines were all different sizes/ material and conditon. I was told to run the generator 6-8 hours a day to keep everything charged and run the A/C - if this was done for the past 3 yrs. then those hours really build up on the 'mechanical' side. So cost could be expensive of for the latter component rebuild or replacement. Charter Company standards for such upkeep will vary I am certain. I have dealt with Horizon Yacht Charters as well and find them good. I am certain that there are others, but I would visit some boat shows and search the net for previous owner assessments of the companies before stepping in. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Owner assessments - especially helping negative feedback is extremely rare to find. Actually for DYC I found some positive feedback so far. I do not mind e.g. if the sails are worn off after 5 years or the engine needs a standard overhaul do to its hours. But groundings (remember Cheeky Rafiki!), hull/helm/rudder damage of any kind, dead electronics is unacceptable. I'd say I'd accept a "complete blue-water refit" budget of <10% of the boat price (that's pretty much done if you replace the sails, batteries & service the engine). As for Horizon: they offer Bavarias for monohull, no thanks...

just heard about a bigger Bavaria that was bought from charter company. owner had the yard do a complete refit and the generator had to be removed for overhaul. the only way out was through the side of the hull. built like a Motorhome.

I just finished up a charter with DYC - with the caveat that I have only done one charter with them, I would will probably never charter with them again, and would never put a boat into charter with them. We were on a 2015 Bali 4.3 - I was interested in it as a possible BVI charter. The boat was only two years old, but was not in great shape - all the cabinetry hardware was ready to be replaced - hinges completely rusted, faucets badly corroded. We also had a problem with cockroaches on the charter which resulted in them fogging the boat after we returned it. Our electronics had nothing but problems - wifi was almost worthless since we were unable to connect to it much of the time. The main chartplotter at the helm froze on a regular basis and had to be rebooted on a regular basis. The sails looked pretty knackered as well, but I don't have a frame of reference if that would be considered typical. The bottom of the boat was in bad need of cleaning - lots of green slime growing on the bottom. One of our heads blocked completely on the trip necessitating two trips out by the repair team and a complete tear down to fix. Fortunately the head belonged to the skipper that was on board, so we weren't the cause of it. The skipper that was on board was great but did make the comment that after about 2 years in charter the boats are about done - can't imagine what they look like after 5 years. I sent an email outlining my experience to DYC - have to yet to hear back. There are better charter companies out there then DYC - we are on our second charter with BVI Yacht Charters in a 2016 Helia and the difference is night and day - of course it is a newer boat, and is better designed boat, but I'm sure glad that we got the better yacht as our second charter rather than the first!

Be wary of the tax advantages associated with charter ownership. Most models I've seen show depreciation deductions, which are perfectly legal, but are also critical to make the numbers work. Since the boat will actually depreciate, that portion that represents actual reduction in value is truly a tax advantage. However, tax laws let you keep going, until your tax basis is zero. This means that when you ultimately sell the boat, you will pay taxes on whatever you sell her for. On the maintenance side, you want the best show available. Getting a hunk of junk back at the end just has to be a nightmare. It will, however, have accelerated rental wear and tear. It will never look like it was owner sailed.

“DYC bareboat in Abacos. April.May 2023. S/V Yepa (on loan out of New Prov).”

This was my second time chartering with DYC in the Abacos - once before Dorian and the Rona and and once after - and I simply can't say enough good about the experience. The pre-sales team was great in getting us a boat and a plan that fit our trip, and the charter base in Abaco treated us like nothing short of family! We initially reserved a Lagoon 52; two days before boarding, we were notified that a sail drive on the 52 needed to be repaird - we were upgraded to a Bali 5.4 at no cost. The Bali came from the New Prov base, with a few minor issues at inspection - like all charter boats do - and the Abaco base took care of everything that morning. Chain counter was inop - we just counted like olde tyme. Bow thrusters were inop (first time I've seen bow thrusters on a cat --- why?). High Pressure pump on an A/C needing to be reset was the worst of it. Sailbag had the average charter-boat wear and tear, zero actual issues there. Watermaker worked fine for the week. Generator worked fine for the week. Fridge worked fine for the week. Icemaker worked fine for the week. A/C worked fine for the week (HP reset was before leaving the dock). Toilets, shower, sinks, stove, winches, lines, standing and running rigging, engines, etc, all in top shape. Two full propane tanks. Barbeque tools. SQUEAKY CLEAN barbeque (should be - it was propane). Bilges dry, through-hulls clean, circuit breaker fine, lights fine. Transom shower fine. Swim ladder fine. Hatches and ports and windows and doors all fine. Chart plotters up to date, no scratches or sunfade on any displays. Autopilot worked like a champ. Zero scratches on the magnetic compass. Dived the boat on a few snorkel outings - very little growth underneath, rudder and skegs all in top shape. A few torn handles on the dinghy - again, average wear and tear on a charter boat - we used the dinghy several times most days (had enough crew to require 2 trips on most outings), no problem at all. Dingy motor was tuned well. Kitchen was well-appointed. My brother is a chef, he brought his own tools, the second day he put his tools back in his bag. The charter base manager was great - we ran through our sail plan for the week and he suggested a few things that made the trip better. The charter base customer care manager was also great - checked to see if there was anything we needed to make our trip more comfortable or enjoyable, made sure we had answers to any questions. We hired a day skipper for 1 day, to help us learn the specific boat; I would not do the day skipper again. He was a contractor but I still put that on DYC because they hired him. I also put that on me - crew and I should have invested the time in walking the boat and dry-running certain operations instead of relying on someone else. We had a few challenges the first few days, and the base was always responsive and helpful. One of our crew got sunstroke towards the end of the trip, so we asked if we could come in early and stay on the dock. When we pulled in, DYC met us and asked if anyone needed medical attention - they had already called clinics to verify that someone was available should we need it. We did cause damage to the boat (sorry, owner!) - we notified the base when it happened, and reminded them of the damage when we pulled in. They went over everything with us, and we came to a very amicable agreement. I've got friends who are charter brokers; I've got friends who have discounts with charter companies; it might be different in other bases, but for the Abacos I simply can't think of any reason why I would not charter with DYC. Similar experience in 2018 on a Lagoon 42 in the Abacos with DYC. Watermaker, generator, sails, rigging, cushions, galley, cabins, heads, electronics, dinghy, etc, all in great shape.

“Class Action Suite”

Just had a disastrous engagement with Dream Yacht Charters. The boat was not acceptable having maintenance and safety issues. Given all the similar experiences of baiting (their sails and marketing … really good) and switching (their delivery … beyond bad) is there a class action lawsuit in the works … that we can join rather then their attempt to buy our silence?

We bareboat chartered a catamaran for two weeks in June in the Exumas - my husband, me, our three kids aged 11-25, two teen nieces, and one boyfriend. The cat pictured was so perfect, 4 separate cabins with private heads each and three spacious common areas. When we arrived, we were told the boat we were supposed to charter had been damaged by the last charterers. There were no more cats available (although we saw plenty all around us) so we were downgraded to a monohull with two private heads and one head off the salon for the other cabins to share. We were very much looking forward to the cat, not only for the ideal sleeping arrangements, but also for the luxurious shared spaces - a monohull does not compare and eight people quickly gets crowded. The bahamas anchorages are very shallow, having a monohull meant we had to anchor far out or avoid anchorages we could have gone to in a cat. We were also assured hard kayaks were available but when we got there, there were only inflatable kayaks that took forever to inflate - and they forgot to give us paddles! The base also provides shuttling to the nearby grocery store for provisioning, but it was very expensive despite the short trip (and should have been comped considering the problems). It would have been nice if provisioning was provided like Moorings does. Fitting everyone for snorkel gear and fins was irritating insanity. Rather than letting us pick our gear like Moorings does, a woman kept bringing us fins to try on and then she would run back to the storage area and get new ones for us to try on. It took forever and somehow we ended up missing an entire set of fins and a snorkel to go with its mask - so we had to take turns snorkeling rather than all go together. Also, the chart chip we were given was completely unreliable, the depths were not even close to correct - my husband had just been on our sailboat in the Bahamas the week before (our boat had an issue, hence the charter), and our several year old chart chip was spot on. The GPS screen on the monohull was in an awkward spot so you couldn't easily watch it when you were at the helm. The boat was not available for us to leave at 5pm, we had to stay until the next day to repair the water pump and a broken fan (replaced with a fan without a protective cover, right by our head in a berth). During the checkout, we were told the boat had a shallower draft than the boat's documentation said. We had other issues with the boat, oil was spilling out of the engine and the forward sump pump stopped working, dream yacht quickly flew someone to where we were to fix it but we had to stay at the island that had the airport and then we had to dinghy him back-and-forth, so we spent a few days dealing with this problem, rather than having fun with our six passengers. A battery was bad and the alarm went off for the entire trip, the repairman didn't fix that. The bilge pump ran continuously. There were no tools on the boat. The galley was pretty but so poorly outfitted we didn't even have pans to use in the oven (so the oven was completely unusable) and there were no potholders. The french press coffeemaker was cracked and not usable, no whisk, no mixing bowls, no measuring spoons, only one 1/2 cup measuring cup. We were told the bottom refrigerator drawer was a freezer but it was actually a refrigerator, so our meats defrosted until we figured out that error. Bahamas in June is very hot, normally we don't have air-conditioning, but this boat did have it. It didn't work in three of the cabins so those people were dying while others were freezing trying to get the air to with the all of cabins. Obviously we didn't use the air conditioning 24/7 since it required running the engine but the fans were a poor replacement, some of them barely worked or didn't work at all, five guests were miserable trying to sleep. At the end, we had to fuel up the boat, but we couldn't get anyone on the radio and had to wait outside of the channel for 45 minutes before anyone answered. Then we had to wait ages until it was our turn, because people sat at the fuel dock and didn't get out of the way when they were finished fueling. We had a great trip anyway, but it was not at all what we expected and paid for. We did get the difference between the two boats refunded, and the kayak rentals refunded, but we would've preferred to have the things we were willing to pay for. In the past, we have chartered with Moorings in the Bahamas and Caribbean, and Hinckley in Maine, and never had issues like this.

Tip for consumers: Charter with moorings

Worst charter experience we have ever had (over 20 previous bareboat charters). Unsafe, uncaring, unresponsive, unwilling to try and make it right. We chartered for 2 weeks out of Nassau in July. Reserved a 1.5 year old Lagoon 40 in hopes of getting a nice boat in good condition. This is not a vendetta against DYC. I'd love to help them improve and make things right not just for myself but for others as well. The avenues I have tried to accomplish this so far have not worked. The largest problem was that when issues were found, DYC just said that's the way it is and did nothing to make it better on our charter or after. After months of negotiating, they offered $300 compensation on a 2 week charter without AC, without a safe boat, without a safe dinghy, and with many other issues. We had no reliable contact information for the base while on the boat. The number on our booking confirmation email did not work, and the number on Google did not work. The boat is a 15 min walk from the base and we were left to fend for ourselves or make the walk multiple times. We were given a semi responsive phone number at the end of day two. The boats AC in the port hull had been disassembled / removed from the port hull at checkout, and they have known about that for a long time, said it would take a week sitting at the marina to have it fixed. Although it was July in the Bahamas and we paid for AC, we were out of luck. After returning they offered $300 compensation. The boat ran on 220V European voltage, but had 110 appliances onboard DYC put a 110v toaster and blender on the boat. We found out that the appliances were 110V when the toaster caught fire. I had my entire family on a boat that caught fire because I trusted DYC!? Broken vessel rudder: The Port rudder had the bottom 1-2" missing, shaft was noticeably bent, delamination in the rudder showed significant algae growth indicating that the damage has been there for a long time. We did not dive the bottom of the boat in the marina, so we discovered this after the 7 hour passage from Nassau to the Exumas. Compromised steering on a boat should be a non-starter! Dinghy failures: Upon leaving the charter marina, the dingy davit eyelets on the dinghy ripped out of the rigid hull. The wood behind the fiberglass was rotten, black, and soft indicating that the dingy was old and neglected. This happened in the middle of the tight exit channel with coral / shoals on either side in seas much too large to safely recover a half hanging dinghy off the back of our boat. With no reliable contact number we brought the boat into the marina and backed into a slip. The workers lamented… "our dingy's are so bad" and then took off trying to find a replacement. They brought by different options that were completely unacceptable. Leaking dinghys that required constant bailing, dinghy's that did not even run well enough for the dock hands to get them to us, etc. We landed on a dinghy with two leaking tubes, an unremovable wooden plug JB welded in to drain plug, and a smoky engine with a damaged prop and questionable reliability. We asked for a better dinghy and were told that was it, otherwise we could wait a week for a different one. This dinghy almost sank while motoring back to our boat in a squall and put my family in danger. Mis-calibrated vessel depth gauge: During "checkout" I was told that the depth reading on the boat was absolutely the depth below the keel, not the depth below the waterline. Using a lead line and measuring tape, the actual water depth was 2 feet SHALLOWER than the reading below the keel. If we trusted the DYC base (I advise not trusting DYC) we would have been in danger of running aground. At checkout we were told the starboard refrigeration unit was a freezer and the port was a refrigerator. We provisioned for two weeks accordingly and bought a ton of meat and perishables to be frozen in the starboard "freezer" With food costs in the Bahamas, and accounting for people for 2 weeks this was a large sum of money. The starboard unit was always meant to be a refrigerator and would not reach freezing temps. Most of our meat spoiled and was wasted. We have worked over the last 3 months to give DYC the opportunity to make this right and they have come back with a $300 refund which is insulting. I write this review in hopes of saving others from going what we went through. We spoke with other DYC guests at the base who went through similar issues. We toured the Moorings base at the same location and it looked very impressive and was a stark contrast to what was going on at the DYC side.

DONT. PLEASE DONT GIVE THIS AWFUL COMPANY ANY OF YOUR TIME OR MONEY. THEY WILL RUIN YOUR VACATION. It is evident that Dream Yacht Charters had no intention to fulfill its obligation to our reservation or booking contract from the beginning. Even if you are not a sailor the list below gives you a sense of their "double dipping" gaining monies from our booking and clearly booking the vessel to another party the minute we could not take any more lies or failed repairs. We left the unseaworthy boat and they quickly prepared it for a new client. Just about the most abhorent unsafe practice. No refund, No acknowledgement of their responsibility, no maintenance records. Anchor & Windlass * Windlass broke on 2 occasions rending the boat inoperable and leaving crew in exposed unsafe conditions, without the ability to raise or lower the anchor manually. * Anchoring - a 5:1 scope ratio is generally considered the minimum standard for anchoring; we were advised to put down a 3:1 scope and when doing so the boat dragged at night despite a good set on the sandy bottom requiring crew to attempt to sail back to safe moorage during the night. For the Indian ocean a 7:1 scope may be more appropriate. At best Dream Yacht Charters provided a 3.8:1 scope ratio for the anchor yet telling us to only use 45m which is 2.8 scope without any markings. Main sail * No reef points on luffed main sail, making it impossible to reef the main as there is no reef 1 tack or reef 2 tack point thus there is no way to secure the foot of the sail while reefed. * Reef points exist on the leech, however they are only lines through the reef points back to the winch which risks tearing of the main sail when downward pressure is applied, as usually a vessel of this size has a block system for reefing on the main sail. * Defective main sail halyard unable to winch to the top due to underpowered winch size and inappropriate line sizes. * Unable to sheet in Jib for proper sailing angle as lines slip through winch, due to inappropriate sized winch and lines. Genoa Main Sheet winch blew apart port side under sail Dingy * Dingy under inflated and had leak in hull, outboard motor would not stay on for more than 2 mins, no oars provided - crew had to swim 0.5km to shore dragging dingy and then waited 6 hours for rescue. * All crew members were injured during the swim with crew suffering from deeply embedded sea urchin spines that required medical attention and caused inability to walk easily for 1 week. Additional Issues * Refused to provide us with a tank key, despite us asking several times * Freezer did not work * Watermaker has not been serviced, it is "operational" but water quality is poor and monitoring dials not working - crew were unable to drink water from Watermaker without violent nausea * Swim step ladder was unsafe - it was attached to rotted wood on Transom which gave way under any strain * Auto pilot will not helm by wind angle

No change Dream Yacht Charter, the COMPANY, simply don't care about your experience. YOU have paid in advance tens of thousands of dollars and you are STUCK with a local franchiser who may or may NOT fulfill your agreement. You show up at the marina hot and tired from travel dragging your luggage and your sorry sucker ass fingers crossed that the boat you contracted for is even there or in any condition to sail. INTERCOURSE these people and their way of conducting business. You have been WARNED.

Avoid at all costs. You will be screwed it's just a matter of to what degree. From boats that simply aren't there to serious safety issues on the ones that are there. In between will be old moldy mattresses backed-up sewage from the waste tanks no refrigerator no promised gen-set. All not compensated by the "Dream Yacht" non-existent "customer service" and their lousy $600 "refund" after you've literally spent tens of thousands. Picture yourself standing in the hot sun at the marina with no place to stay no provisions no communication with them about the broken boat you've contracted and you'll get the idea.

Sent us out on a mostly broken boat and did not care at all. We pulled out from the dock to find that almost nothing worked. No fridge, no generator, no outlets, nothing that we paid extra money to have. The boat Skippy Cat (the Fountaine Pajot Elba 45) was the worst boat I have ever been on and they had no idea how a thing on it worked. Brand new boat (been in the water for less than a month and a half) and yet it was almost entirely useless. And of course, they could not care one bit because they had already been paid. They completely breached their contracts for everything they were supposed to have and before you know it you've already signed away any liabilities they may have for making sure anything works. Not one single person there cares because they're all making their money regardless of how awful they are. One woman there (Virginia I'm talking to you) will stand there and patronizing you while blowing smoke in your face when in reality she doesn't know a single thing. We asked her where to take the garbage off the boat to throw it away and she couldn't even tell us where their garbage area was. One of the guys working the dock told us and she acted like he was below her for even knowing. This heinous woman was also yelling (in the most disrespectful way possible) at this woman who was just doing her job of cleaning the boats that had just come back into the marina. That lady cleaning had much more restraint than I do because just from watching her speak to that woman like that I was about ready to chew her a new one and send her into the water. I have never met a ruder, more entitled, flaming garbage pile of a human and I sincerely wish her the worst. There is no excuse for talking to another person the way she feels she has the right to. We went to Antiqua and if you see this before going you are much better off going anywhere else and so much better off never dealing with the people at DYC.

DYC bareboat in Abacos. April..May 2023. S/V Yepa (on loan out of New Prov). This was my second time chartering with DYC in the Abacos - once before Dorian and the Rona and and once after - and I simply can't say enough good about the experience. The pre-sales team was great in getting us a boat and a plan that fit our trip, the post-sales team followed up on things, and the charter base in Abaco treated us like nothing short of family! We initially reserved a Lagoon 52; two days before boarding, we were notified that a sail drive on the 52 needed to be repaired - we were upgraded to a Bali 5.4 at no cost. The Bali came from the New Prov base, overnight. A few minor issues at inspection - like all charter boats do - the Abaco base took care of everything that morning. They were willing to fix a New Prov boat to make an Abacos customer happy. We thought that was cool of them. The problems: Chain counter was inop (we just counted like olde tyme sailors). Bow thrusters were inop (first time I've seen bow thrusters on a cat --- why???). Chart plotters up to date. Autopilot worked like a champ. No scratches or sunfade on any instruments. Zero scratches on the magnetic compass. Dived the boat on a few snorkel outings - very little growth underneath, rudder and skegs all in good shape (fantastic shape considering a charter boat!). A few torn handles on the dinghy - average wear and tear on a charter boat. We used the dinghy several times most days (had enough crew to require 2 trips on most outings), no problem at all. Dingy motor was tuned well. The supports on the dinghy platform was not sized for the dinghy - a very minor thing, no inconvenience at all. Kitchen was well-appointed. My brother is a chef, he brought his own tools, the second day he put his tools back in his bag. The charter base manager was great - we ran through our float plan and he suggested a few things that made the trip better. We had a few challenges the first few days, as you do with new boats, and the base was always responsive and helpful. I've got friends who are charter brokers; I've got friends who have discounts with charter companies; it might be different in other bases - for sure I've seen some posts here that would steer me clear of DYC in certain spots - but for the Abacos I simply can't think of any reason why I would not charter with DYC. Similar experience in 2018 on a Lagoon 42 in the Abacos with DYC. Watermaker, generator, sails, rigging, cushions, galley, cabins, heads, electronics, dinghy, etc, all in great shape. I've seen some great reviews for DYC out of the USVI and I've seen some terrible reviews for DYC out of the BVIs. The maintenance of the boats really should be a global standard for an organization, but it will differ amongst charter bases. Also consider that a lot of charter fleets weren't maintained to standard during The Rona - we waited until 2023 for a few reasons, one of which was to give the charter companies a year'ish to bring the boats back up to standard.

My wife and I have chartered a few times and booked with a couple of different charter companies. This year we decided to go to St. Martin and booked with Dream Yacht for a trip from June 14th-21st, 2023. The booking went fine and the customer service representatives I dealt with were helpful and pleasant. I did receive an e-mail on May 25th that they had changed our boat, but the new boat was substantially the same as the old boat so I was not worried about that. We were scheduled to leave on a Wednesday. The Friday before, we found out my brother has cancer. They scheduled a medicine port to be installed early Monday morning and by Monday evening, we found that his cancer has spread, is not curable and will be terminal. Tuesday we picked up our 5 year old black lab from the vet as he was having an issue with his paw. We found out that he has cancer as well and the prognosis was not good. My wife and I could not imagine leaving our 12 and 15 year old daughters or the rest of our family during such a trying time. We canceled our vacation with Dream Yacht Charters by phone and I explained to the agent I had been working with the reasons behind the cancellation. My family had other concerns on our minds, of course, but the high cost of this vacation was also of concern for us. On June 21st, 2023, I sent an e-mail to the agent I had been working with at Dream Yacht Charters. I was requesting the vacation be re-booked for the same boat and dates next year so nobody is out anything. I reasoned that the boat owner would not be upset as that boat had only been booked for a couple of weeks before that cancellation and we could re-book that boat and the owner would still get paid. The company would not be out money as they would keep my payments. My wife and I would still get to enjoy the vacation that we already paid for. I did not get a reply. I waited what I thought was a reasonable amount of time and then sent another e-mail on July 17th, 2023 reiterating my first letter and expressing my disappointment that I had not heard back. I did not get a reply to that letter either. It is now August 16th, 2023 and I never heard back from Dream Yacht Charters. My family went through (and continue to go through) a very difficult time. Dream Yacht could have made a decision that cost them nothing and helped out their customer. They could have been sympathetic and accommodating. They could have developed a long-term customer. They did not do those things, instead they kept the money and ignored me because they already got their money. A company with those ethics is not a company I want to do business with.

Covid delayed this crewed booking from Scrub Island in the British Virgin Islands for three years, finally completing it this year. Dream Yachts downgraded us from a Lagoon 620 to a 58' boat, which all things considered, was disappointing but OK. Boarding is supposed to take place at 6:00 pm on the Saturday the booking begins. We had to sit dockside, watching the boat being cleaned out, provisions brought aboard, and by the time we were allowed to board at 8:00 pm, the provisions still were not stowed. Dinner? Late. Based on the boat not being ready for us, we assume it had come in from the previous week's charter. The weather was raining. After leaving Scrub Island, we all learned the toilets weren't working properly. The toilet in our cabin had a gasket leak at the base which allowed sewage to drain over the floor and into the shower for the entire trip. We were given towels to soak it up, but since there was too much,we ended up with sewage soaked towels wrapped around the toilet base with the stench of sewage the entire week. How could this happen to all of us if the boat had just returned from charter? Why would we have been given such an unacceptable boat? Sailing? Forget it. The chartered captain of the boat discovered the mainsail wasn't safe to use. Finally, on the Friday before we left Saturday, he patched it up enough we could sail for the last few hours back to Virgin Gorda. Seven days, maybe three hours of sailing. We were so glad the electric generator worked, otherwise it was impossible to sleep without air conditioning as there were no fans in the cabins. We really liked the captain and chef. But because there were so many things wrong with the boat, the captain worked all hours of the night trying to fix things. One night we had to listen to a power drill noise that sounded like it was almost in our cabin, in the middle of the night for quite some time. It appeared that Dream Yachts sends you out on a boat with major problems and lets the captain try to fix them. The paying clients have no choice but to live with those problems. I don't know about other charter companies, and they may all have similar policies, but when you arrive at Scrub Island, you're required to pay in cash, an additional $550 each couple. I'll bet a lot of our $3,300 total cashbox payments went to trying to fix the boat. Can you imagine an airline requiring a cashbox payment to fix a broken plane? We all agreed that's the last Dream Yacht Charter we'd sign on for.

Let me be very clear, I read all the reviews before I used them and was terrified that our trip would be a disaster. I can't speak for Dream Yacht in any place other than Nassau (Palm Cay Marina) in the Bahamas but at this location, they were spot on. We did not have a single issue, the staff was friendly and accommodating. We were told 48 hours before our trip that the boat we had reserved was having mechanical issues and they were giving us another boat. I, being a planner, was very concerned, especially after reading all the reviews. However, the boat they gave us was a nice upgrade, had everything we had wanted on the original boat and more. They answered all my questions, did a great briefing, made sure we had everything we needed and were wonderful with the check out. Every person we dealt with at this marina from Cream Yacht was just wonderful! Alex deserves a special mention as he arranged for everything and put up with all my questions! Thank you Alex! You all have an amazing team! Keep up the great work!

Nightmare trip by Dream Yacht Charter USA Let me preface this by saying I am in the hospitality industry & have NEVER written an online negative review because I believe in industry karma & to work with clients behind the scenes to avoid hurting business. I tried & gave them so many chances but dream yacht charter failed miserably ruining a very expensive vacation we planned approx half a year in advance. We booked the charter of a catamaran with them in February for a July trip around the Spanish islands. I booked charters before & understand what goes into the planning. We were advised that with Spanish law, we could only have 12 people on board including guests and crew. We were 10 in our party (2 families consisting of 4 adults and 6 kids ranging 6 to 14 years old). Usually we would book a skipper, cook, and host. The host in the past was responsible for light meals of breakfast and lunch, snacks and drinks, helping the skipper l, & most importantly tidying up the boat and keeping our quarters clean and organized. Because we felt the cleaning was paramount to fancy meals on board in a foodie country like Spain, we opted for the host vs the cook. Not sure what happens on other boats but on a catamaran we are always told we cannot flush toilet paper in the toilets so you have to wipe your poo & throw it out in a small trash next to the toilet & the staff removes it daily when cleaning. I made this crystal clear to DYC that cleanliness for us was most important over cooking. The catamaran had 6 bedrooms & 2 small front rooms for the crew. Our party needed all 6 bedrooms based on ages and gender of kids. With the advanced notice, we asked for crew info & itinerary suggestions. DYC said we cannot have crew info until closer to the departure & itinerary would be discussed with skipper. A while passed and now a few weeks until the trip & balance paid in full. $30k USD for 2 families for a week charter including meals and crew. Fuel and marina charges separate. I once again asked for crew info. Still no crew and now a new sales person involved named Celine. We needed to wait until a week before for the crew. We were then supplied resumes of a captain and host. We were thrown a curveball stating the staff would need one of the bedrooms- this was impossible with the boat configuration so DYC stated they will use the two small quarters at the front but need to share a bathroom with us - which was fine. The main issue we were unaware of until we arrived was the staff quarters had no AC. We tried to reach out to skipper for itinerary planning but no answer. When we arrived to the marina, no one was there to help us with our luggages like previous trips. DYC had no real check in process which left us confused. We also saw that the boat was not in the best shape with dirt, weathered furnishings, ceiling tiles dropping down, smaller accommodations than previous same boats, etc. but I looked past this & the lack of service upon arrival. We met the captain and host. We went over the rules & safety guidelines & were off. But this then become uncomfortable- the skipper asked for one of the bedrooms with bunk beds to share with the host. We stated and showed why it wasn't possible & we were told DYC told them they would have a bedroom because there was no AC in the front staff quarters. Right away we were put in a terrible position upon the start of the trip. We kept things as is but the staff were obviously annoyed right away. The first evening the staff was smoking on board & we made them stop. The host was overheard yelling numerous times at the skipper. She was upset she was supposed to clean up after us and we also asked for hand and shower soap as there was none unlike other chartered trips we had. I was later told by DYC agent that soap was our responsibility to bring which was ridiculous as this was always something supplied (like toilet paper!). The next day the staff was noticeably upset due to bad sleep with no AC. We felt bad so both sets of parents decided to have our 6 and 9 year olds sleep in between us the next night to give up the bunk bed quarter. $30k USD to sleep with grown kids sandwiched in between us in queen beds. Great holiday! Because DYC never got the skipper info to us, we had no itinerary and even worse we had no ability to book marina spots for our boat so we were stuck every night in the middle of the sea & only way to get on shore was for skipper to take us on the dingy and pick us up. This was super inconvenient and we were made to feel bad each time we wanted to go out. Read the rest: https://m.facebook.com/groups/dreamyachtchartersuck/permalink/1126779991244629/

Do no eve n THINK about spending a dime with this company! We booked a cruise over a year ago and we were the first to book for this particular itinerary/week. 2 more cabins were booked after us but we were notified that the group was broken up; two couples on a smaller vessel and we were alone on a smaller vessel. They said that we would have a private cruise if no one else signed up. Then 11DAYS before, they changed and cancelled on us! We were left to scramble to figure out an alternative and there were none. So now we are on land NOT having the all inclusive vacation we'd planned on for over a year AND incurring more expenses to get out on to the water for some of the days, provisioning our own meals etc. They said that the decision was made my authority in Europe that was impossible to reach and the decision was final. JUST DON'T DO IT. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE PRICE.

Unprofessional Operation - Plenty of Alternatives A group of six of us chartered a five cabin Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 for seven days in January 2023 from Dream Yacht Charter QLD and encountered many boat problems along with unprofessional & hostile charter management. 1. Lost a day because the generator was faulty. Partly because of this, the boat briefing was spasmodic and disjointed (briefer claimed first time to brief on this boat) as he was also dealing with the tender's fuel tank not being full, replacing the missing ice chest, filling the boats water tank and agreeing the BBQ was unclean but didn't have the time to address it. 2. Rain leak in starboard saloon and the boat was delivered with tarpaulin that had to be rearranged to slow the leaks. (Cushions sodden wet, had to be stripped and dried over following 2 days) 3. Dead and live cockroaches in cabins, saloon, and cockpit (6 instances) 4. Main outhaul was chaffed, unsafe to the extent we stopped using the sail. 5. Forward port cabin hatch also taped up to prevent rain from entering. 6. Shore power leads (all three connectors) were full of water and tripped the dock relay. We had to disassemble, dried and taped with plastic. (QYC accuses we dropped in the water, we did not) 7. 2 x AC's not working (stern port cabin front saloon unit) and both fail to cool air. There were several other more debatable issues but given Dream Yacht Charter's blameless responses and complete unwillingness to take any responsibility we let these issues speak for themselves. We were offered a refund for 1 1/2 days rental, which we declined in preference for sharing our experience in the hope others reconsider using such a shoddy operator as Dream Yacht Charter their other brand, QYC (Queensland Yacht Charters)

Review: Dream Yacht Charter

Finding the right yacht charter for your preferences and needs can be a challenging process – we’ve taken a look at one of the sector’s biggest players, Dream Yacht Charter.

dream yacht charter complaints

(Photo: Dream Yacht Charter)

Founded in 2000 with the aim of revolutionising the industry by making sailing accessible to all, Dream Yacht Charter have rapidly become one of the biggest names on the charter market. If you’re thinking of chartering a yacht and want some help navigating the options, we’ve taken a comprehensive deep dive into Dream Yacht Charter so you can decide whether they might be the go-to guys to kick-start your yachting adventure.

Fleet & Destinations

When it comes to variety of fleet and destinations covered, Dream Yacht Charters can’t be beat. They have a diverse fleet of over 920 yachts available for charter, including monohulls, catamarans, sailboats and motor yachts. They cater for charters in over 45 global destinations, including all of the world’s most renowned yachting regions such as the Caribbean and Mediterranean, as well as lesser known spots like Cuba, Belize and Scandinavia.

How to book

Whereas online charter platforms will require you to conduct your own searches for yachts based on your specific criteria, Dream Yacht Charters simply ask you to fill in an online form with your main requirements such as type of yacht, crewed or bareboat, preferred destination, and dates of travel. They will then search their fleet and come back to you with availability, as well as a quote on pricing.

At any given time, Dream Yacht Charter also have a number of special offers available, with certain yacht charters offered for discounted rates. You can view these special offers by clicking on the relevant tab at the top of the website and then navigating on the drop down menu to your destination of choice.

Charter services

It’s fair to say that Dream Yacht Charter cater for every single charter preference, budget and need. From cabin charters, where you book individual cabins rather than the entire yacht, through to lavish fully crewed private yachts complete with captain, crew and five-star hospitality treatment from the start to finish of your trip, and everything in between, they offer it all.

And while charters of a week or two are still the most popular duration, they also allow for long-term bareboat charters – or “sabbaticals” as they call them – which have grown in popularity after changes in working patterns have allowed for remote working, even at sea. Sabbatical charters allow travellers to experience a destination, local culture and cuisine for extended periods.

Other services include European  canal cruises, which are popular with those who lack sailing or skipper experience but would still like to helm their own boat, and luxurious Aqualodges for those who want to stay near the water but aren’t ready for a sailing adventure. Finally, if you’re trying to get your yacht master license, you can add miles to your log with Dream Yacht Charters delivery charters for accredited bareboat sailors.

There are a number of alternatives for finding your ideal yacht charter. Among them, we would recommend Ritzy , which has a large number of crewed yachts available, and SamBoat , which also offers a wide variety of vessels, both crewed and bareboat.

Dream Yacht Charter in USVI was an…

Dream Yacht Charter in USVI was an amazing experience. I have been on a few charters but this one was everything we expected and more. The manager Chris runs a first class operation. Everyone went out of our way to make our experience a great one. Susan Chappelle our booking agent was very responsive and helped us out in so many ways. We are looking at our next charter and it will definitely be with Dream Yacht. Thank you everyone for such a great vacation.

Beware chartering with this outfit.

The boat I got for $6000 a week was a junker and was unsafe. A genoa sheet broke on while we were sailing, obviously old. The oven didn't work. The forward hatch leaked water over our bunk. The mainsail was not properly installed and we had to sail with a single reef for the week. The freezer didn't work and the refrigeration was marginal. I had to contact them three times to ensure they provisioned our boat. Worst of all, they jury rigged the lowering swim step in an unsafe way, and the sheet to raise an lower it got wrapped around the prop on a crossing, requiring us to get towed into the harbor when we arrived. To add insult to injury they charged me $250 for inspecting the seals on the saildrive when I returned the boat. That never would have been required if they hadn't jury rigged the swimstep. I'll never use Dream Yacht charters again, especially when there is a Sunsail/Moorings base right down the street and I have never had issues with them.

Worst travel experience ever

Worst travel experience ever! DO NOT use this company, zero integrity. We were left on the dock before the boat even left due to the agent selling us a trip that we were told we shouldn't have been sold, after flying all the way to BVI! Not only were we out the cost of the charter, but flights, time, the cost of additional flights home, etc. The company is refusing to refund our money, and conveniently, the agent is "no longer there." We have had to contact our attorney to resolve. Horrible company and management. I have been in the incentive travel business for 25 years and have never experience such a mess, I would certainly never let my clients use this company.

Reply from Dream Yacht Charter

Hi, Thank you for your review. The BVI entry protocols stated that unvaccinated travelers cannot go ashore. We understand that you decided to return home instead of spending the cabin cruise entirely on the boat. We recommend that all customers check the entry requirements for their intended destination regarding COVID before they book. Best wishes, The Dream Yacht Charter Team

It was really a dream! Will come back again.

We had a very nice, competent skipper (Claudy) and a friendly good cooking hostess (Karin). They made the stay on board safe and comfortable. The trip was planned excellent and Claudy always choose the best places for anchoring or mooring. Our cabin was not so nice. Bed very small. The windows let some water in, although closed.

Hello Wolfgang and thank you for your nice review. We're happy you had a nice cruise and we look forward to welcoming you onboard again! Best wishes, The Dream Yacht Charter team

Great help!

Ok. 5 stars. Polynesia, Raiatea. Our honeymood started with Bellini, 2016 oceanis 41, externally cared as well internally. Main sail ok, jib ok. At check-in I found oil in the bilge under engine. I asked for cleaning. Everithing ok. We sail after 2 days and 7 hours of sailing I found again black oil from starbord ad light oil from port. I called the base, immediately they arranged to guide me, by video call, to find and solve the problem. After half day, while i was continuing sailing, a mechanic reach me in Bora Bora e almost solves the problem (changing the belt too), giving me the chance to complete the holyday. So in the end, a little tricky, but everybody worked for our safety, and our pleasure. This part of honeymoon was amazing. Very professionals Thank to Oliver and Cyril.

Date of experience : 16 August 2022

Hi Stanislao, thank you for your comment. We're glad you had a great time in Polynesia and we hope to see you onboard again soon. Best wishes, the Dream Yacht Charter team.

Warning! Do not use this company. We chartered a monohull out of Nassau in the Bahamas and there were bedbugs in the V berth cabin. The head wasn’t working the entire 8 days. A rip in the dinghy, sent us out with a map of the Abacos instead of the Exumas, no anchor in the dinghy, frayed and rusty anchor line and chain.

Date of experience : 24 March 2022

Hi Marlene, Thank you for your feedback. Our team works tirelessly to provide boats in top condition, and we’re truly sorry that you experienced issues. After our team looked at your booking, unfortunately we can’t accept your claim. As it was not reported at the base upon arrival, the boat went on a subsequent charter, and there were no issues reported by the guests, or by the guests previous to your charter. Once they were back at the base, we inspected the boat and we found no evidence of bed bugs. However it was treated despite this fact. Therefore, as we explain to your agent, it is not possible to consider bedbugs were the cause as we found no trace of them on the boat, and neither the guests prior or after your charter. Best wishes, the Dream Yacht Charter team

Great time in Key West!

We had a great time on our 45' monohull bareboat charter out of Key West. Staff were helpful in getting us underway and knowledgeable about the area. The weather was a bit unfavorable for a trip out to the Tortugas, but we had a great time bouncing around the lower Keys. The boat was in pretty good shape for being in charter for a couple years - a couple small issues but nothing we had to go back to the marina to get fixed, and the folks at the charter company were understanding. We had a good enough experience that we're planning to charter with Dream Yacht Charter again at one of their other locations - that's as good a recommendation as I can give!

Dream Yacht Lake Champlain

Dream Yacht Lake Champlain, Vermont. 6 stars! My family just returned from a spectacular bareboat charter experience at Lake Champlain. Dream Yacht staff - Jon - near single handed managed the fleet, customer nuance, the cleaners, tech debug, dock pilot, stand-in skipper 24/7, safety and lake advisor. Lake Champlain is beautiful sailing, the base marina is outstanding - new showers, bathrooms, and dining. Our 7 yo yacht - Sun Odyssey 509 - showed her chartering age but performed very well, was very clean and comfortable. Not every system was perfect - certainly sailing is the adventure.. setbacks are expected! We experienced excellent VIP personal service.. and Jon/DYC seamlessly managed 7 other charters simultaneously, weather, turnovers, etc.! Super experience .. already looking forward to our next DYC!

Hi Timothy, thank you for your comment. We're glad you had a great time in Lake Champlain and we hope to see you onboard again soon. Best wishes, the Dream Yacht Charter team.

Dream Yacht Charter St Martin

I have booked many charters with the Moorings and Sunsail, always excellent service. I was aware of the the many DYC negative reviews so I knew I was taking a chance when I signed the contract. We required a 4 cabin monohull and I wasn't able to find one elsewhere on St Martin at a price we could afford. My gamble paid off in spades. We had a Dufore 460 GL. The boat was immaculate and the service was as good as I've ever experienced. Everything was "as promised" and on time. While anchored in Road Bay, Anguilla we had an electrical problem which was remedied swiftly with hardly any inconvenience on the part of my crew. Everyone from the office staff to the guys on the dock bent over backwards to make sure we had a great charter.

Dream Yachts Charter

So after purchasing a 2021 Bali 5.4 thru Dream Yacht Group and finding out after 7+ Months of trying to get them to approve warranty work to be repaired I have come to the realization that they care more about their bottom line than any of their customers and leave those holding the bill. Stay clear of these guys. I have included two of my many issues with my new boat that they continue to drag their feet on in hopes that I will just go away and eat the coat of the repairs that are clearly warranty issues. Not going to happen. I’d love to post my website but I can’t. A simple search for Dreamyacht Fraud will show more information 1 star to 2 too many

Bad service and no knowledge about the boats or sailing are

Rented a boat with Dream yacht charter in Stockholm, Sweden. At Sune carlsson's marina. The service was horrible and the person in charge didn't know anything about about the boat or the sailing area. He was not even from Sweden. It was a disappointing experience and I want to warn everybody to sail with Dream Yacht Charter in Stockholm, Sweden.

Hi Erik Thank you for your feedback and we're sorry to hear you have experienced issues during your sailing vacation. We would like to investigate further and advise you to contact us with your booking information on [email protected] so we can assist. Best wishes

Great experience chartering with DYC…

Great experience chartering with DYC from Pula, Croatia. The base manager Davor and his team were very friendly and responsive - the best welcome and service I have seen in many years of chartering. Boat in very good condition. Thanks.

Date of experience : 02 July 2022

Hi Paul, thank you for your kind review ! We are happy you had a great time in Pula :) We look forward to welcoming you back onboard again. Best wishes, the Dream Yacht Charter team.

A Good Example of DYC's Dishonesty

As a good example of this company's dishonesty, have a look at their response to my original review. Our group paid cash, not a credit voucher, for our original charter from St. Vincent to Grenada. That charter was postponed in 2020 and 2021due to Covid and DYC's St. Vincent base closure. So DYC credited our 2020 cash deposit to the 2021 trip, then when that was also postponed they credited our cash deposit to the 2022 trip. It was always the same charter, and we paid a cash deposit for it. They refused to repay the cash deposit that we made. Their response, saying that our deposit was a credit voucher is deceptive. It is a good example of how dishonestly they deal with their customers.

Hi Dave Thank you for your feedback. We've talked to the team and found that as you had paid for your trip deposit using a credit voucher from a previous booking, your refund was provided in the same format, as a credit voucher. We hope to see you onboard with us again soon. Best wishes, the Dream Yacht Charter team

Again a dream with Dream Yacht Charter

This is the 4th summer with DYC and all I can say is that I have had another great experience. Christian and Adrian at Empuries did a great job in both preparing and receiving the boat. Incredible understanding and kindness in the dealings with Christian whilst he was always there to help out whatever the issue. Very professional crew. Thanks and until next year

Sail & Sea the world with Dream Yachts

I own a Lagoon 450 through Dream Yacht Worldwide. I recently Chartered out of their base in Grenada, through the owner reciprocal program that is part of my contract. From the booking process with Nell in owner care through the services provided by their team in Grenada (Hiro and Max in particular) this has been a truly wonderful and once again rewarding experience. I’ve been working with the Dream Yacht team for 7 years and I enjoy a trusted and rich relationship that has provided great sailing experience and adventure around the world. I highly recommend this company and can honestly say they make every effort to deliver on every promise!!!

we Chartered from Dream Yachts in Dubrovnik. Very pleased with the check in service etc. the boat was a little tired but it was towards the end of the season. The technical support was excellent; we had a couple of small issues which were not a problem. Definitely a team I would consider chartering from again. 👍

BVI Scrub Island

BVI Scrub Island. The cat we rented was completely unmaintained. It started with the rigging breaking the first day out causing us to return to Scrub Island. Then the air conditioner broke, they said they fixed it but it still wasn't working. Then the sewage starting backing up in all of the rooms. The furling broke. They didn't even provide a boat hook that was long enough to reach a ball from the cat. Then they offered us $600 back and a free day in the future. Like we would ever charter from them again. Oh, and the check out people were TERRIBLY RUDE, THINK 0 CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Great Experience in US & Spanish Virgin Islands

We own a FP Astréa 42 through Dream Yacht Charter and recently chartered out of their base in St Thomas, USVI through the owner reciprocal program. The booking process with Nell/DYC's owner website was easy. Upon arrival in St Thomas, we received a call from the base informing us that our boat was ready, well before the 5pm check in time. Upon boarding, we identified a few minor issues which were promptly addressed by an attentive staff. They even provided us with a service dinghy to allow us to provision at the grocery store across from the marina, saving us taxi fare. Twice during our charter we ran into dinghy outboard issues which were immediately remedied, including meeting us at anchor on Great St James Island, to switch outboard engines. As owners, we have sailed 32 weeks in the Caribbean and in the Mediterranean with DYC over the past 4 years. The condition of the boats and the quality of the base staff vary considerably from location to location. In St Thomas' Compass Point Marina DYC base, the condition of the boat and quality and responsiveness of service were excellent.

I’ve just arrived home from the holiday…

I’ve just arrived home from the holiday of a lifetime! Having never done anything like this before I wasn’t really sure what to expect… but I definitely want to do another one now. We were really lucky to have a fantastic skipper called Nikolas who truly made the week for us. We knew straight away we were in very safe hands and having local knowledge, he took us to the most beautiful places across the Ionian Sea. It was like having our own concierge, we didn’t have to think about too much, just when we wanted to eat and when we wanted our next swim! The yacht was incredible! Enough space for 10 of us to enjoy the week (maybe 8 would be perfect though) It was great fun having meals together onboard and some party nights with beautiful scenery but equally it was nice to go ashore and explore different bays and tavernas. Nothing to fault - it was amazing and I can’t wait for the next one. We will definitely be back for more.

Amadeus Description

Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.

A unique holiday to remember

Just had a fantastic week on board a Dream yacht catamaran. Boat was clean, well maintained, ready when we arrived. The staff couldn’t do enough. Special mention to our skipper Nikolas. He was an absolute diamond and by the end of the trip was one of our group. He suggested places for us to go, took us to hidden gems and was so knowledgeable about the area he clearly loves. 10/10 would do again!

Myself and my partner have just returned from a skippered charter in Greece. As it was our first time on holiday without our two small boys, I was initially a little reluctant to leave them, but once we arrived and I settled into our new surroundings for the week, those concerns were put to rest. The beautiful scenery and clear waters surrounding Paxos and Antipaxos, amazing swimming and snorkelling and the tastiest seafood I’ve ever eaten were just a few of the things that helped me to relax and enjoy what turned out to be the best holiday ever. A special thanks to our skipper who was absolutely brilliant and made the experience as amazing as it was. Thank you Dream Yacht Charter. We’ll definitely be back - next time with our boys who we now know would love the freedom a skippered charter holiday gives you.

Wonderful boat with great customer service

Wonderful boat, great customer service. Bareboat chartered a Dufour 382 from Dubrovnik. The boat was well-equipped and in good shape. We had really good customer support up to and including the trip. Upon arrival, we got a good tour of the boat. My only complaint on this boat was a squeaky main sheet at night and an overactive bilge pump, we solved both of those on the second night. Everything else was great.

Excellent 1st Charter Experience

We were a two family charter on a Helia 44. Andre was our captain, and we could not have asked for anyone better. He found the perfect places to moor based on our requests. The boat was in excellent condition and was exactly as advertised.

WE WERE TOLD 12 HOURS BEFORE WE WERE TO BOARD A PLANE TO FLY FROM THE WEST COAST TO THE EAST COAST THAT OUR BOAT WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE WITH NO EXPLANITION ! WE SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND OUT THAT DREAM GAVE THE BOAT TO ANOTHER GROUP. WE HAD PAID IN FULL OVER YEAR BEFORE!

Hi Hubie, Thank you for your feedback. Our team was in full communication with you that your reserved boat was out of service due to an issue during the previous charter. The boat was not given to another group as it went for repair. It is very unfortunate when this rare event happens. We offered another date and your group decided to accept a full refund. We are surprised to read the review as you were kindly very understanding in your email. We hope to welcome you onboard another time. Best wishes the Dream Yacht Charter team

Absolutely Perfect!

Every person we dealt with at this marina from Dream Yacht was just wonderful! Alex deserves a special mention as he arranged for everything and put up with all my questions! Thank you Alex! You all have an amazing team! Keep up the great work!

Unprofessionel handling

I’m tryiting to rent a yacht though their agent Boutaround, have already plaid 30% deposit, and they will not confirm the rent due to internal arguments between the two companies. Not at all professionel handling!

We chartered a 2018 SO 449 from Kos

We chartered a 2018 SO 449 from Kos, Greece for 2 weeks (from July 23 to Aug 6). The checkin process was very efficient and staff were very friendly. At 3 pm we were done with check-in and left the marina. The was very clean and well maintained. especially the bottom was very clean and sails were recently changed. That made a very satisfying charter experience.

Don`t do it.

Booked a 62 ft cabin cruise on a 2019 catamaran in Guadeloupe. We got a 52 ft 2016. Lot of things broken and a bad smell in the cabins. Poor food and drinks. The excursions are a complete joke. DYC doesnt care much, they only care about collecting your money. Booked via Globe Sailor. We are already waiting more than 6 weeks for a response from DYC. Will update after response of DYC.

Great boat; Very good support

We have chartered many cats over the years, and the Bali 4.4 was by far our favorite. The layout and design was so open and comfortable, both up top and down below. We had a few minor issues after we left the marina, but Ken was right there on WhatsApp to help. Really our only issue was that we were told there would be a convertible bed in the main salon, and there was not. Luckily the bedless person was a very good sport about it but that was disappointing. Overall a great experience. I might go back just to watch Tikka (sp?) drive the yachts around that tight little marina! Thank you all.

No Thank You, Nightmare Yachts

If you book with Dream Yacht Charter, expect the very worst in service, and prepare yourself for a week in hell on a boat that clearly is not properly maintained Renting from Dream Yacht Charters was a disaster. We had paid for 2 rentals for a week by _wiring_ the full amount before the trip — big mistake. Upon arrival, only one boat was operational, and there was only one captain. We ended up having to find another boat, clean it ourselves, before embarking for the week. We did end up finding a captain for the second boat — who had no working knowledge of the boat, and who was unable to fix the many broken gas and electrical issues that transpired during the week: - No A/C in the boat - No clean water on the boat after day #2 - Broken engine - Just to reiterate: NO A/C Dream Yacht Charter was a nightmare to work with — calls during the week were dismissed, and days went by before we had to resort to hiring local handyman to fix the boat — one day before the week was over

Hi Matt, Thank you for your review. Hearing about your customer experience helps us understand where we need to improve. We cannot find anyone sailing with your name for this destination. We think you may have sailed with a party from the USVIs, where there were some issues with your charter and we offered a partial refund for the watermaker issues and delayed departure. Best wishes, the Dream Yacht Charter team

Chartered a 52 Dufour in the British…

Chartered a 52 Dufour in the British Virign Islands and the boats systems were absoluely shot. End result, no electrical power, no AC, no wifi, no chilled ice or food, no sleep. Thats not a holiday - thats an endurance challenge. I averaged about 3 hours per night for 7 nights. The boat just had not been serviced properly, with serious seperate issues with generator, batteries, auto pliot malfunction, jammers, bilges, heads and propane/CO sensors (or maybe an actual leak?). No power menat no AC and no Wifi, no charging of phones and limited fridge use. Dream Yachting Charter did very little to sort these issues during the week - several visits that didnt mprove very much and took up valuable time. They acknowledge that they briefed us completely incorrectly regarding the use of the generator which exasserbated the problems. There were missing tools, medical supplies and generally a poor inventory. Their solution to the propane/CO alarm constantly going off was to disconnect it. So I was super nervous it wasnt a sensor issue but an actual leak. But no-one died, so thats ok right?! We slept with all the hatches open and on deck if we could. I'm imagining they broke a number of regulations with this approach - perhaps I should report them to the Authorities? Back at base, the manager, Richard, admitted all of the issues and thanked me for my feedback. There was a standard refund form for about 15% of the rental ($550) and I refused to pay for the fuel ($200) so that saved me another few percent. They agreed $50 for ruining our ice and food - wow. There was no more to be had. Even the broker (Helm) put pressure on them and in the end felt so bad, they offered a similar credit back from them for future rentals (not with DYC!) - so at least someone has a business conscience! Absolute disgrace. Own your issues Dream Yachting and compensate properly for giving people a lousey time.

The stuff rips of everyone upon check out. They pick on everyone, finding something and charging for it even if it takes hours. Didn't have such experience with other companies.

Amazing Charter team in Antigua

My friends and I have just returned from a week of bareboat Sailing in Antigua on board a FP Astraea. The boat was in really good condition and the hand-over and return processes were very easy. The base manager, John, is a fantastic guy and he leads a team of enthusiastic and friendly individuals; nothing was too much trouble for them during our stay and they bent over backwards to assist us when required. The sailing area in Antigua, whilst looking fairly limited at first glance, is absolutely superb and we had a blast for our week there. I have invested in a boat with DYC and after this, my first charter with the company, I am confident that I have made the right decision; sailing like this could not be easier and there are so many bases to choose from.

DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM

DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM. This was the most terrible experience me and my family had on a holiday. It started when they missed picking us up at the airport due to miscommunication. We were supposed to spend the night on the boat and instead we had to spend 400 us$ per person at a hotel in Nassau. This was not refunded by the company. The whole week was chaos, with little communication from the crew as to what we would do, and what places we would visit. Food was always the same, with no local dishes, or specialties. The company did the bare minimum. We left a day later from the port at Palm Cay because someone else had taken the crew mattresses from our boat, and there were no extra mattresses for our crew. No one from the company even took any responsibility. At the end of the cruise they promised they would refund us from the day we lost, and they just refunded half a day. Bahamas is STUNNING, but if you get a chance, book with another company.

We went to Corfu and it is beautiful!!

We went to Corfu and it is beautiful. The DYC Dock Manger is a hard worker. He stayed late to complete all tasks in preparation for our vacation. We were a group of 5 boats. We needed to hire one skipper and he was excellent!!! Overall, it was a great trip.

Out of 20 previous charters the boat was one of the worst.

We did extensive research on DYC concluding that the quality of our experience depended on the base management. Given the reviews at the time of booking, we decided to charter from them out of Jolly Harbor, Antigua. We chose Talitha, a Beneteau Oceanis 41 that was built in 2017. The boat had significant issues, which were discovered after we left the base and during our cruise to and around Guadeloupe. Examples were the refrigerator was turned on during our checkout, and we understood it would take a while to cool down. When we reached Guadeloupe the next day, we realized it would only cool to about 60 degrees F. DYC’s Miguel obtained service for us in Guadeloupe, which was both prompt and solved the problem by putting in the missing refrigerant. Other issues included leaking hatches, roller furling that jammed, propane tank disconnect was wrench-tight with no useful tools on board, rotten water line that burst, bilge pump float switch that had not been properly installed at the factory and would flop around catching on bilge surfaces causing it to run continuously, mislabeled clutch for the second reefing point, no water hose to refill the tanks, autopilot didn’t work at all, one Chartplotter was not usable due to non-stop screen demanding it be upgraded and a worrisome “thud” that was not the rudder could be felt when sitting in the cockpit while the boat was rolling at anchor suggestive of something fundamentally serious. In addition, there were numerous minor issues. We provided a report to the base manager and reviewed all of the issues with the dock’s technician in the spirit of improving the next charterer’s experience with the boat. When Virginia, the base manager, reviewed the report with the technician, I sensed that she was dismissive regarding the importance of the issues. Virginia did give us a one-day credit for a future charter as compensation. In summary, the issues with the boat significantly degraded our two week cruise experience; however, the technical support was excellent when some initial issues were revealed at the dock and later in Guadeloupe. It is clear that DYC Jolly Harbor lacks a formal set of standards, procedures and processes for ensuring issues are timely identified and corrected prior to a boat going out on charter.

Warning against Dream Yacht Charter in Croatia

I have sailed for 40 years, and rented both for 30 years and in 5-6 different countries. This year the Dream Yacht Charter from Marina Baltic in Croatia was the first time and it will surely be the last time as well. Croatia is great to sail in, and the other times we have sailed there, we have had 5 star experiences. But this time with Dream Yacht has been a nightmare. Maybe they should change their name to Nightmare Yacht Charter? The boat was worn and extremely messy. There was a fault in the electrical system and the staff treated us like children making trouble. Service is a shortage. The staff at the port were not just unhelpful, but exceptionally rude. Two things are certain: We will definitely be sailing in Croatia again but never with the Dream Yacht Charter.

Just had one marvelous week in French Polynesia. Great time on a Sun Odyssey 43,9. We visited 3 islands. The weather was great also. I recommend this experience if this is on your bucket list! Was on mine for years and I would do it again. The staff was great and very helpful at the Raiatea base.

  7. Dream Yacht Charter Phase out

Re: Dream Yacht Charter Phase out. I delivered a new Bali 41 to Dream Yacht in Antigua two years ago. I thought the staff were superb. The boat had come from France and they jumped onboard immediately, cleaning and fixing the various bugs of a new boat. The other boats there looked good to me although I didn't sail them.

  8. My question is: has ANYONE received acceptable...

Ed F: Your impressions are correct. I would not trust DYC, at least the BVI base, to properly maintain a yacht. I chartered a four-year-old cat from them this January that had many problems: the self-tacking jib fairleads wouldn't move; the VHF didn't work; the service batteries wouldn't hold a charge, necessitating running the generator and engines constantly.

Yachts in very dangerous condition. Chartered a yacht in kotor last year. The yacht was so poorly turned out. Lots of gear missing, took ages to get more equipment on the boat. In the end we sailed away with lots of stuff not on board. During the week we noticed there was a gas leak.
