He worked with his father,  Otis Loggins, one of the founders of the PICYA affiliated EBC Yacht  Club. In the late 90's, Kenneth opened a successful high end car  dealership where he gained experience in providing excellent customer  service. He is a natural  when it comes to ensuring that clients feel comfortable.

Killer whales attack and sink sailing yacht in the Strait of Gibraltar — again

A sailing yacht sunk in the Strait of Gibraltar on Sunday after an unknown number of orcas  slammed into the vessel with two people on board and caused a water leak, officials said. Both crew members were rescued by a passing oil tanker, said Spain's maritime rescue service, marking the latest killer whale attack on a boat in what has become a pattern in recent years.

The incident happened at around 9 a.m. local time in the narrow strait between Spain and Morocco that has become a notorious site of human interactions with pods of killer whales that, for reasons still not fully understood, ram into boats and at times even sink them . In this case, crew members on board the SV Alboran Cognac yacht put out an emergency call for an evacuation after they encountered orcas roughly 14 miles off the coast of Cape Spartel. 

The crew members reported feeling blows to the hull of the vessel and rudder, which was damaged by the whales, the rescue service said. The agency's coordination center in Tarifa, on the Spanish side of the Strait of Gibraltar, helped arrange for their evacuation via the tanker MT Lascaux. The tanker was able to collect the crew members from the sinking yacht within the hour, and they disembarked in Gibraltar before 10:30 a.m. They abandoned the SV Alboran Cognac, which proceeded to completely disappear into the ocean.

Anyone sailing through waters from the Gulf of Cádiz in southern Spain and the Strait of Gibraltar, either in a larger motorized vessel or a personal sailing boat, is advised to avoid certain areas that the maritime rescue service marks as potentially dangerous spots for orca interactions. The greatest threats exist between May and August, when officials say that pods of killer whales are most commonly seen in those parts of the Atlantic. 

But previously recorded incidents suggest those dangers may be present at any time. Last October, a Polish boat touring company reported that a pod of orcas had managed to sink one of its yachts after repeatedly slamming into the steering fin for 45 minutes, causing it to leak. Last June, two sailing teams competing in an international race around the world reported frightening scenarios in which multiple orcas rammed into or pushed up against their boats or as they sailed west of Gibraltar. 

No one on board any of the vessels was hurt in those encounters, but the documented rise in confrontational behavior has researchers and sailors trying to determine why orcase have attempted to sink or capsize so many boats off the coasts of Spain and Portugal. 

Some sailors have even resorted to blasting thrash metal music in a bid to deter the apex predators.

Reports of orcas interacting with humans have more than tripled in the last two years or so, according to the research group GTOA, which has documented hundreds of such incidents in the region since 2020. But some of the latest data points to possible changes in the orcas' etiquette, with the group reporting only 26 interactions in the Strait of Gibraltar and Bay of Biscay areas between January and May of this year. That number is 65% lower than the number of interactions recorded in the region over the same months last year, and 40% lower than the average number of interactions recorded in the same months between 2021 and 2023, according to GTOA.

Orcas attack, sink sailing yacht in Strait of Gibraltar

In a frightening attack that has become a trend in the past four years, an unknown number of orcas rammed and sank a sailing yacht in Moroccan waters in the Strait of Gibraltar, Spain’s maritime rescue service reported early this week. They said they did not know how many of the apex predators were in on the attack.

The Alboran Cognac, a 15-meter (49-foot) yacht, was carrying two people when the boat encountered the animals, also known as killer whales, at 9 a.m. local time (7:00 GMT) on Sunday.

The passengers said they felt sudden blows to the hull and rudder as water started seeping into the ship, according to NBC News. After calling for rescue services, the passengers fled to a nearby oil tanker that took them to Gibraltar.

The yacht eventually sank.

The incident was the latest report of orca ramming around the Gibraltar Strait that separates Europe from Africa and off the Atlantic coast of Portugal and northwestern Spain. A research group called GTOA, which tracks populations of the Iberian orca subspecies, said there have been nearly 700 interactions since orca attacks on ships in the area were first reported in May 2020, NBC News reported .

Experts are confused about the probable causes. One theory is that it is a playful manifestation of the animals’ natural curiosity. Others believe it may be a fad among the highly social orcas, or deiberate targeting of what they believe to be competitors for their favorite prey, the bluefin tuna.

Experts believe the attacks involve a subpopulation of about 15 orcas that have been given the designation Gladis, Reuters reported .

A Bronx ER nurse and influencer was put on leave and is being investigated after video surfaced of him saying Jewish people should “shut the f–k up.”

“People be like, ‘I’m scared to go outside because I’m Jewish and everything,'” NYC Health and Hospitals nurse Chris Hernandez mockingly said while wearing scrubs and walking through what appeared to be a hospital.

“And I just be like ‘shut the f–k up,” continued Hernandez, 28, who works at Metropolitan Hospital in Harlem, according to a profile on him by his alma mater, the Swedish Institute. “How you think gay people felt back in the day when they weren’t even allowed to be gay? They hid in the closet and dealt with it. You’ll be alright.”

Hernandez has worked for the hospital system since 2021, according to his LinkedIn, which was taken down after the video went viral, along with his social media pages.

Hernandez had over 27,000 Instagram followers and nearly 63,000 on TikTok, according to screenshots from before the profiles were deactivated.

He was also in two films, a documentary called “The Walk-On” and a short flick called “Brooklyn Boys,” according to IMDB.

“His primary focus is in the field of nursing and chooses to have the life of acting on the side, where he wishes to pursue multiple exposures,” his IMDB bio says.

The video drew outrage after being shared by groups Stop Antisemitism and Jew Hate Database.

“Listen as ER nurse Chris Hernandez tells Jews to ‘shut the f*ck up’ and deal with the antisemitism they’re encountering,” Stop Antisemitism wrote in an X post. “Imagine the care he provides to Jewish patients he encounters in the emergency room.”

“This is not just antisemitism,” one person commented. “It’s homophobia and antisemitism.”

Anti-Jewish incidents skyrocketed 45% since last year, according to NYPD data, many following the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas.

NYC Health + Hospitals said in a May 6 post that it was investigating the “disturbing” comments.

Hernandez has been on administrative leave since the city hospital system found out about his post. the agency said.

“The comments in this video are disturbing, and this employee does not represent the values of our health system,” a spokesperson told The Post. “NYC Health + Hospitals stands for compassionate, humane care with dignity and respect for all people.”

The viral video wasn’t the first time Hernandez shared his controversial views online.

“Saying that you are anti-Zionist isn’t antisemitic,” he said in a May 3 clip . “Checkmate, bitch.”

He could not be reached for comment.
