Tourists were forced to dive into the open ocean after a massive inferno erupted on a boat carrying 110 people.

Horrifying footage showed the vessel being engulfed by the blaze when the boat caught fire off the coast of Marmaris in Turkey. A short while after catching fire, the 20-metre boat - named "Eagles" - sank on Thursday afternoon.

The reason for the fire is currently unknown but it's been alleged that it started in the engine room before tearing through the rest of the ship.

Thankfully, most of the 110 passengers escaped unscathed and managed to get away from the lethal fire in time. There are thought to be seven individuals who are being treated for unknown injuries in hospital. Three of them are said to be in critical condition, according to Protothema .

Police are said to have arrested the owner of the ship and its captain. Terrifying footage showed passengers swimming frantically away from the boat. Bystanders on long boards were also seen trying to help.

Other boats were said to have flocked to the area to help pick thr tourists from the sea. The clip shows huge flames snaking through the entirety of the boat as thick plumes of smoke funnel into the air. The sea is covered with life jackets and passengers of nearby ships watch the horrific scenes unfold.

The ship was almost completely gutted by flames to the point it was almost dust before it sank into the depths of the ocean. Turkish police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Earlier this month, the desperate family of a Brit grandma left in a coma after falling off her mobility scooter while on holiday in Turkey are trying to bring her back to the UK.

Linda Bateson's family were told to 'prepare for the worst' after she fractured her back when she came off the vehicle on a family holiday in Oludeniz, Turkey.

Linda, 72, went to hospital where she developed pneumonia and a fungal infection in her lungs and was placed in a coma - and her family now want to fly her home. But they say they have been told they may have to fund the medical bills herself as they say the insurance company argued that her high blood pressure was not listed correctly as hypertension.

They currently don't know how much Linda's medical bills will cost but a private medical flight back to the UK is a whopping £45,000. Her granddaughter Elisha Thompson, 24, said: "It's been heart-breaking.

BREAKING: A tourist yacht carrying 110 people sank off the coast of Marmaris, Turkey after catching fire. The terrifying incident left passengers scrambling to safety, with some jumping into the water and others seeking refuge on nearby boats. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties at this time.

What caused the yacht to catch fire?

The cause of the fire on the tourist yacht is still under investigation. However, incidents like this can often be attributed to a variety of factors, such as electrical malfunctions, engine failures, or even human error. It is crucial for authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.

How did the passengers react to the fire?

In the midst of chaos and panic, passengers on the tourist yacht acted quickly to escape the flames. Some individuals made the split-second decision to jump into the water, while others rushed to board nearby boats for safety. The bravery and quick thinking of the passengers likely played a significant role in preventing any casualties.

What is the current status of the situation?

As of now, there have been no reports of casualties resulting from the yacht fire off the coast of Marmaris, Turkey. Search and rescue operations are likely underway to ensure that all passengers have been safely accounted for. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety measures on tourist vessels. It is crucial for boat operators to adhere to strict safety protocols and ensure that all passengers are well-informed about emergency procedures. Additionally, regular maintenance and inspections of vessels can help prevent accidents like the one that occurred off the coast of Marmaris.

According to a report by BBC News, incidents of tourist boats catching fire are not uncommon in popular destinations like Turkey. In 2018, a similar incident occurred in the region of Antalya, where a tourist boat caught fire but all passengers were safely rescued. These incidents highlight the need for increased safety regulations and enforcement in the tourism industry.

In the aftermath of the yacht fire off the coast of Marmaris, it is crucial for authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire and prevent similar incidents in the future. Additionally, passengers who were onboard the yacht should receive support and assistance to cope with the traumatic experience.

Overall, the incident serves as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers that can arise when traveling on the open seas. It is essential for both passengers and boat operators to prioritize safety above all else to prevent tragedies like the one that occurred off the coast of Marmaris, Turkey.
