The cockpit terrace, always a highlight of Absolute yachts, is a flexible space that pampers guests from morning to evening. In addition to air conditioning, natural ventilation can be provided by the electrically-controlled vertically sliding windows. The galley is fully equipped, and, unusually for boats of this size, there is also a spacious pantry.

The main helm station, in direct contact with the saloon, is in a position that ensures optimum visibility, and it features advanced infotronics and comprehensive on-screen monitoring of all on-board systems. A door is conveniently placed for rapid transit from the main helm station to the lateral walkway, facilitating harbor maneuvers.

NEW DIRECTIONS OF COMFORT BELOW DECKS The bow location of the master cabin ensures peace, silence and privacy. Its full-beam layout optimises space, with a large double berth accessible from all three sides, extensive cupboards and storage units, and a superb marble bathroom.

The VIP guest cabin midships could in every way be considered a second master, in terms of space, headroom, en-suite bathroom and finish. The third guest cabin has an electricalsystem, fitted as standard, for seamless transformation from twin berths to double. In addition, there is a versatile crew cabin, with practical access from the stern platform.

All in all, the 52 FLY, a paragon of technology, design and performance, is the perfect expression of Absolute’s direction: exploring new routes and navigating to the next level of comfort.

Absolute Yachts Announces 52 Fly

  • By Victor Tan
  • November 14, 2022

Absolute 52 Fly

Absolute Yachts recently announced the latest addition to its Flybridge lineup: the 52 Fly. This yacht adds to a nine-model series ranging from 47 to 60 feet LOA.

Upon ascending the portside stairs to the flybridge, guests are met by the two-seat helm station. To starboard is a U-shaped settee with a dinette. Forward of this seating is a sun pad for at least three; abaft, there is a wet bar on a terrace that almost entirely shades the cockpit below. Absolute says all outdoor furniture is modular and made in-house.

Absolute 52 Fly

The main deck connects the cockpit and galley via sliding doors. There is a four-burner cooktop on an L-shaped countertop to port, and this galley has a full-height refrigerator, a separate freezer and a pantry. Moving forward and one step up to the salon is C-shaped seating with a dining table to port; opposite is an additional settee for two. The helm station to starboard has two seats, and a door offers side-deck access.

Belowdecks, the Absolute 52 Fly is a three-stateroom, two-head affair. Its amidships and forepeak staterooms can both serve as masters, and there is a twin-berth guest stateroom that converts to a double. The forepeak stateroom’s berth is aft, while its head is in the bow.

Available options, so far, include solar panels atop the flybridge so that owners can enjoy anchoring without the hum of a generator.

In the details: Absolute says its furniture is made with light-colored natural timber and leather trim.

All-New Absolute 52 FLY Review (2022 Edition)

The Absolute 52 Fly arrives with a fresh look and a stunning three-cabin interior. Have we got a new leader of the pack on our hands?

All-New Absolute 52 FLY Review (2022 Edition) image 1

The 2022/2023 generation of Absolute flybridge boats are some of the best the Italian shipyard has ever designed. The 52 Fly may be sub-55ft but it feels huge on board and boasts an interior layout so effective it makes you wonder why other boats in this sector aren't using the same blueprint.

As with every other modern Absolute, it's only available with Volvo Penta IPS but this is what grants the designers so much accommodation space to play with on the lower deck and it should be good for a reliable 22-knot top speed and a cruising range of 250nm. We'll put those claims to test on our upcoming sea trial but, for now, we caught up with the boat at the 2023 Miami Boat Show, where it had its global debut, to see how it stacks up.

Design & Build

Absolute 52 Fly at anchor

This generation of Absolute flybridge has a distinctive look with oversized hull windows and fin-style open haunches that aim to maintain the connection between the cockpit and the water. The boats are not classically handsome but the look is more refined than it was a few years ago and there's no doubt that they have a distinctive look that is all their own.

On board, the use of space is truly outstanding and the volume of the interior is astonishing. By arranging the owner's cabin on a mid-deck forward, you get both a wonderful space for the owner and guests are treated to a fabulous full-beam VIP amidships.

Modular deck furniture is another feature of this generation of Absolute, adding great flexibility to the cockpit and flybridge. As standard, the decks are empty to fill with any furniture the owner desires but to make life easy Absolute provides some on request and it's as stylish as it is flexible.

Absolute builds all of its boats using its Integrated Structural System (ISS). The interiors are cut and assembled separately to the hulls and dropped in once constructed, pre-prepared with wiring and plumbing. It's an efficient build method, which, according to Absolute, improves the accuracy of the build and maintains a more consistent level of quality. You can't be definitive about quality from the safety of a boat show berth but there is certainly a feeling of real cohesion aboard the 52 Fly and reassuring solidity in everything from the flooring to the way the internal doors clunk shut. It feels like a quality machine.

Absolute pays attention to the little things that make life on board easier. It's small things like having a dedicated slot for the boat hook adjacent to the flybridge steps in the cockpit and the smart stainless steel hoop that slots into the bathing platform to give swimmers something to grab onto when they emerge from the sea.

This will be an owner-run boat for the majority so ease of maintenance is key and to that end the machinery space is impressive. With both the generator and optional Seakeeper stabiliser space is a little tight at the entrance to the engine room but access to the engines and IPS pods is excellent and the quality and tidiness of installation are top-notch. The 52 Fly should be an easy boat to live with and look after.

Absolute's range is an IPS-only zone so if you don't like the idea of pod drives the 52 isn't for you. That said, the integration of Volvo's pods is faultless and it's part of the reason why the designers have so much space to play with on the lower deck.

Interior Accommodation

absolute 52 Fly Master Cabin

The interior is the 52 Fly's trump card, it's hard to compute quite how Absolute has managed to include three cabins and two bathrooms and endow them with so much space. There isn't a boat in the sector that uses the footprint as cleverly as this.

The main deck salon is familiar Absolute with its aft galley, two-part sliding cockpit door and a window section that drops into the counter to create a small bar area.  The galley is split with the counter, sink, hob, cooker and a good amount of storage space to port and a full-height fridge/freezer and pantry to starboard. Detail is excellent. The soft rounding of corners, the subtle integration of a handhold into the edge of the galley counter and the chest forward of the fridge/freezer that contains fiddled storage for all of the Absolute branded crockery and glassware.

The 52 has a new lighting design throughout, with attractive waves of LED in the deck head above the cockpit and aft end of the salon and a new circular motif above the dinette that is cleverly mirrored in the hard top on the flybridge.

The windows on both sides of the salon drop down to allow the natural breeze to run through the boat. We've seen this feature before on Absolutes and it means that on days that aren't too hot, you may be able to use these to ventilate the boat rather than firing up the air-con (and therefore the generator).

The television is neatly hidden on a pop-up mechanism behind the sofa to starboard, opposite a large dinette with a hi-lo table that can easily switch from dining to coffee table height.

The lower deck layout works brilliantly because by shifting the owner's cabin to a mid-deck forward, the VIP cabin can occupy the full width of the beam amidships. It's a similar layout to Absolute's own 56 Fly without the ensuite bathroom for the VIP cabin. This arrangement benefits the owner as much as their guests, though, because the space and comfort levels in the owner's suite are excellent. As are the views, thanks to those enormous hull windows. With the bed (2,000mm x 1,600mm) mounted aft on the centreline, the bow is full of bathroom and it works really well, delivering a smartly finished ensuite that uses the geometry of the cabin intelligently. The attention to fine detail is excellent once again, right up there with the best in this sector.

The VIP could be another owner's suite and in fact, if you're sleeping on anchor or are tied to a buoy, it may be the place to sleep as you won't get the slapping of water on the hull that you do up front. There is an intrusion towards the top of the bed that those 6ft or over will need to watch out for but apart from that it's a very easy cabin to move around inside and it's dotted with plenty of useful storage solutions. The lack of an ensuite may put some people off but the day head, shared with the twin cabin, isn't far away.

The twin cabin is well thought out as well. Headroom is good and, as standard, you get electric sliding berths (1,940mm x 670mm) that switch from twins to a double at the touch of a button. Rival boats offer this but most as a cost option. It also has direct access via a small door to the void beneath the owner's cabin, offering excellent access to the bow thruster for those maintaining the boat and some very useful bag storage for those sleeping in this cabin.

The crew accommodation aft is just about spacious enough to work as an occasional cabin but very few of these boats will be run with the crew. The best option is probably to have the space lined out for storage but keep the bathroom so that those who've been for a swim can go to the toilet and have a shower without traipsing water through the interior of the boat.

Absolute 52 Fly main deck

Helm Station

Absolute 52 Fly Helm Station

Absolute's helms were the best in the business before it came up with this all-new design for the 52 and, somehow, it's made them even better. The lower helm is particularly good thanks to its beautifully clean design with a pair of angled pods that direct the MFDs towards the skipper and create a driver-focussed, cockpit-like feel. The twin helm seats are adjustable and have a bolster section so you can stand at the helm and drive; the relationship between the adjustable steering wheel, throttles and IPS joystick is absolutely perfect.

There is the option of a third control station in the cockpit is welcome but with the joystick at the lower helm positioned so closely to the side door, it's a brilliant spot to moor the boat from and the all-around view is excellent. There aren't boarding gates on either side of the cockpit but having them amidships on both sides makes it far easier for the skipper to help out handling lines if they need to.

The upper helm isn't as stylish as the one downstairs but it has all of the same ergonomic touchpoints. A good example is the positioning of the throttles and joystick on the same moulding but the latter is mounted higher so you can reach it more easily when standing up and throttles are set low so they are more comfortable to reach when seated out at sea. Positioning the navigator's seat outside of the skipper's means that they can move in and out of the helm without disturbing the driver, too. It's all very well thought out and near impossible to fault.

Foredeck of Absolute 52 Fly

The cockpit follows a familiar form with its modular furniture and open haunches though there are some updates that are new for the 52. The lighting design in the overhang is fresh as is the small lip of the smoked glass and stainless steel that adds some protection to the open gunwales while maintaining the views out over the water.

Absolute's supplied furniture is lovely stuff that can be arranged in myriad ways, either as single armchairs or, because the armrests can be removed, sofas and day beds. It's so much more flexible and comfortable than a fixed bench. The open transom also means that those in the cockpit have a great view over the hydraulic bathing platform and can easily keep an eye on people in the water.

The side decks require a sideways shuffle to move along them as they aren't the widest in the class but with tall guardrails and toerails it feels perfectly safe to negotiate them. The 52 Fly has one of the best foredecks in the class. The side decks are linked by a passageway that splits the sofa and sun pad, which makes getting from one side of the boat to the other far easier. The sun pad has a clever hinged backrest which acts either as a headrest for sunbathers or creates a bench that faces aft to join the hi-lo teak table. The entire area can be shaded by a canopy that attaches to carbon fibre poles, which stow in the engine room.

Flying High

The flybridge feels large in this sector. The overhang extends a long way back and is square in its design so there is lots of space at the aft end for yet more free-standing furniture. A hard top is an option but there is no sunroof available on this model, just the potential to add 1,320W solar panels to top up the domestic energy supply. The lighting motif on the underside of the top is the same as in the salon, which is a nice touch. As is the way the wet bar has been so neatly integrated into the aft end of the dinette sofa. It's a well-designed bar with built-in storage for the liferaft and a useful open shelf to stow towels and other loose items. The sink is standard but you'll need to add the fridge and grill to make the most of it.

Forward, there is a big dinette with a handsome teak table on a fixed pedestal and a good spread of sunbathing space adjacent to the two-person helm station.

Flybridge of the Absolute 52 Fly

Value For Money

The base price of the 52 Fly at the time of writing is €1.34 million ex VAT but as with most of its competitors, there are a few options that need to be added to get it to a turn-key specification.

The hydraulic bathing platform would be worth adding for functionality as would the hard top, with or without the solar panels. Unless the extra berth is going to be of use then speccing the crew cabin to be lined out with the addition of the bathroom would be an effective use of this space and endow the boat with a vast amount of dry, easily accessed gear storage.

If you moor stern-to then the third control station in the cockpit is definitely worth thinking about, even with the view from both the lower and upper helms being so good. The Seakeeper is an expensive option but it does make a big difference to comfort levels when the boat is at anchor, so if you spend a lot of time doing that it's worth considering.

Ultimately the 52 Fly is at the more expensive end of the market but it feels like a quality product through and through.

Absolute 52 Fly exterior

It's impossible to come to a concrete conclusion about a boat without experiencing how it feels out at sea but the initial signs are very positive for the 52 Fly. Being a scaled-down version of the larger flybridge boats in the range is no bad thing because Absolute is on a roll at the moment and the three-cabin arrangement suffers very few compromises and sets the standard for space and comfort at this size of boat. The custom furniture arrangement on the deck allows for an impressive amount of customisation for a boat in this sector but you won't be disappointed with what Absolute offers, either. The attention to detail is excellent throughout and there are so many small touches that will make the boat a real joy to live with. We're yet to drive it but in every other area, the 52 Fly is as good as it gets.

Reasons to Buy

  • Voluminous interior
  • Versatile deck spaces
  • Quality and attention to detail
  • Spacious flybridge

Things to Consider

  • VIP cabin isn't ensuite

Naturally, the 52 Fly has a raft of rivals from competitor brands but look inside the Absolute stable first, shall we? The 56 Fly is the next rung on the Absolute flybridge ladder and the jump in price is around €200,000 so what are you getting for your money? Well, it's longer and wider so there is more space throughout, most noticeably on the flybridge and lower deck where you can get two crew berths instead of one and an extra bathroom for guests. Performance is likely to be pretty much identical, though the 52 could well be a bit punchier given it's lighter than the 56 but uses the same Volvo Penta IPS800 engines with 600hp. The question is, is the 56's biggest rival now the 52?

Outside of the Absolute stable, there is plenty to challenge the 52. Galeon's 500 Fly has been around a little while now but even the brilliantly versatile 52 Fly can get close the Galeon's outstanding beach club mode arrangement with drop-down terraces and a rotating transom seating arrangement that is a stroke of genius. It can, unlike the Absolute, also be had with a tender garage big enough for a Williams Minijet. Below deck, there are three cabins, including a full beam owner's suite amidships, a double VIP and a third cabin with a pair of bunks. It's available with a variety of Volvo Penta shaft drive engine options (D11 725s the pick) or IPS, though it's an expensive option. For sheer deck space, it's untouchable.

Azimut's 53 isn't as functional as the Absolute but with exterior design by Alberto Mancini and an eye-popping Achille Salvagni interior, it's a cracking-looking boat. It's all sharp lines and subtle curves in comparison to the bombastic Absolute, which is a more acquired taste. Like the 53 Fly, the Azimut has a three-cabin, two-bathroom layout with space for a single crew member aft but the interior design really is like nothing else in the market. The 53 also runs on IPS but the larger D11 725hp blocks of IPS950 so its top speed is more in the region of 32 knots and it will cruise a bit more quickly, too.

The Sunseeker Manhattan 55 (and its predecessor, the Manhattan 52) is one of the most popular boats that the Poole shipyard has ever produced. It's easy to see why given the mix of performance, style and interior space. Attention to detail and finish also took a marked turn for the better with the 55, too. Like the Galeon 500, it's available with IPS or shafts and will top out at around 32 knots. It's one of the more engaging boats in the sector to drive, too, as you expect of something wearing the Sunseeker crest. The layout is quite similar to the Absolute's, though there is more fixed furniture on the flybridge. It's a great all-rounder.

Absolute 52 Fly

Absolute Yachts ’ most recent model is the 52 Fly, which rolled out at the 2023 Miami International Boat Show. From the first step aboard, it was clear the Italian builder had sweated not only the details, but also pushed the genre ahead of its competition.

The hull’s glazing, resembling a short, tanto-bladed knife and a vertical bow up front, also added to the contemporary design. Undulating LED lighting inlays in the cockpit overhang imparted a cool, sophisticated look to the space. At the same time, a starboard-side docking station spoke to this boat’s bona fides as a serious cruising machine.

The salon also had design touches that one might not expect to find on a 52-ft. semi-custom build. The aft galley had a four-burner Bosch cooktop and a six-foot-tall, stacked refrigerator and freezer that is useful for longer trips. The drawers all had chic leather tabs as handles, extending a beach-like, elegant vibe to the space.

Absolute 52 Fly flybridge motoryacht

The starboard-side helm was another place onboard that feels just a little bit different than the standard offerings in this size and class.

Twin Garmin screens were angled off in a small arc, as opposed to facing straight back, which gave them a slightly futuristic feel. Tightly stitched helix patterns in the seat-backs of the helm chairs pointed towards a high level of fit and finish.

A sturdy door next to the helm led to the side deck. Perhaps most important for the helmsperson, the Volvo Penta joystick control was maneuverable while standing on that side deck. The joystick and cockpit control station should make docking this boat easier than a conventional setup.

One of the other significant layouts was the flybridge. Absolute managed to make it look stylish and large, without appearing top heavy. The design included a large forward lounge surrounding the helm station, with back-to-front seats to port, and an L-shaped lounge extending back to the transom, with a center dining table. The side island with fridge can also double as a serving station. The overhead hardtop had an opening center window, and stereo speakers were embedded into the bridge.

Our final impression after a tour aboard: The Absolute 52 Fly was more than the sum of its parts. The boat was full-featured without looking crowded, but also highly functional. This 52-footer was clearly ready for a weekend cruise or extended voyage. The Italian builder proved that a well-conceived design makes for a well-rounded boat.

Absolute’s winning pocket package

  • December 7, 2023

Featuring brand signatures implemented on the Fly 56 and 60 models and flagship Navetta 75, Absolute’s 52 Fly is the most compact version of the inland Italian builder’s new-generation designs, with two full-beam staterooms among three cabins. Words: Clare Mahon; Photos: Absolute

The 52 Fly is set to debut in Asia in 2024 through dealer Absolute Marine

Absolute’s 52 Fly, the third model of its upgraded flybridge planing series, debuted at the 2023 Miami International Boat Show before having its European debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival. Following in the wake of the 60 Fly and 56 Fly models, the newcomer packs a lot of comforts and updates into an overall length of almost 55ft.

Sometimes you have to rub your eyes and take a leap of faith when shipyards talk about their line’s “family feeling”, but there’s no mistaking an Absolute. Built inland at a shipyard that’s much closer to Italy’s car manufacturing hubs than it is to the sea, each Absolute yacht takes a trip along the country’s famed Autostradas before getting anywhere near the open water.

Absolute, 52 Fly, yacht, Cannes Yachting Festival, Autostradas, Cesare Mastroianni, Volvo Penta

The aft end of the flybridge and aft cockpit both feature modular furniture

The size constraints posed by tunnels and overpasses along this unusual maiden voyage combines with the shipyard’s desire to get the most out of every inch of space to dictate the Absolute look: sturdier and more voluminous than sleek and sexy. From the dock it may not be love at first sight, but there’s no denying these yachts have the kind of beauty that comes from the inside.

To give the boat a look of forward thrust, Absolute’s in-house design team has created lozenge-shaped glass inserts in the hull, picking up and repeating their lines and angles in the hard-top supports and along the sides of the boat. This gives the 52 Fly a compact, unified look that helps offset its volume-maximising features.

OPEN TO THE ELEMENTS

The 52 Fly continues the shipyard’s tradition of engineering for comfort, performance and quality of life at sea.

The beach club includes a high-low swim platform

Starting from the high-low beach platform, you can sense this new offering from Absolute is going to have what it takes to make for great times on the water. With a hydraulically operated mechanism, the platform gives safe and easy access to the water and offers a convenient storage space for a tender.

Under the waterline, the V-shaped hull assures excellent seakeeping and was purpose-designed for the two Volvo Penta D8- IPS800 engines. Symmetrical staircases lead up to the cockpit where glass panels aft provide clear views of the platform and sea.

“Our new terrace cockpit has a glass transom and open gunwales, so has a real open-air feel,” says Cesare Mastroianni, Absolute’s Vice President of Sales and CCO. “And thanks to modular furniture first used aboard the Navetta 64, you can change the setup throughout the day.”

Absolute, 52 Fly, yacht, Cannes Yachting Festival, Autostradas, Cesare Mastroianni, Volvo Penta

The aft cockpit offers sea views aft and through cut-through bulwarks

Join pieces to form couches or single seats, slot in armrests and backrests, add or take away cushions, and you can make all sorts of combinations of seating or side tables.

The updated version of this ingenious furniture also includes a box where you can tuck away things like swimming fins to dry while keeping them neatly out of sight. To finish it all off, curved LED rope lights in the ceiling and a textured panel under the docking station add that touch of design flair you expect from an Italian boat.

FRESH AIR INDOORS

The aft galley is on the same level as the aft cockpit and perfect for preparing a proper meal in good company. Just open the doors all the way, drop a window down and the galley and cockpit become a single, convivial space, nominally divided by a serving station that does double duty as a bar. “You have all the space and utensils to really cook,” Mastroianni says.

Absolute, 52 Fly, yacht, Cannes Yachting Festival, Autostradas, Cesare Mastroianni, Volvo Penta

Opening the sliding doors connects the cockpit to the aft galley

Top-quality appliances include a large fridge-freezer on the starboard side. To port is the C-shaped cooking area, which offers plenty of space for provisions, while there are well-designed storage units for dishes and cutlery. There’s even a wine cellar tucked under the helm seat.

The team at Absolute are always upping their game, so one look around the saloon and you think: family boat yes, but the right kind of family. Details like leather drawer pulls and dark veneer profiles contrast with the predominantly light-coloured woods used in the panelling, like the piping on a Chanel suit to give a touch of stylish luxury.

The curved rope lights in the ceiling of the cockpit and galley become a full circle over the seating area, subtly setting the saloon apart and marking its different function.

Absolute, 52 Fly, yacht, Cannes Yachting Festival, Autostradas, Cesare Mastroianni, Volvo Penta

It’s one step up from the galley to the saloon

There are couches on both sides and a retractable TV screen, but what you notice most of all is the ceiling height and the sense of openness that comes with the large, glazed surfaces. But it’s more than a feeling. The windows open electrically like car windows, so air can circulate naturally throughout the boat at just the push of a button.

Sophisticated lacquered elements in the ceiling contrast nicely with the floor in natural wood overlaid with a textured mesh to give it extra anti-skid properties for safety. Just as cooking is part of the fun of being aboard the 52 Fly, so is helming.

“This is a family boat that experienced yachtsmen can use on their own, without extra help from crew,” Mastroianni points out. “There’s a crew cabin if you need it, but more experienced owners will manage the boat themselves and use the crew cabin for an extra guest.”

52 fly yacht

Storage starboard of the galley

The two-seat helm station is part of the saloon and has an elegantly futuristic setup with Garmin screens mounted flush into the console. Like all of Absolute’s models, the 52 Fly has a full-height side door by the lower helm and owners have docking commands at the main helm station, on the fly and in the aft cockpit.

As if this weren’t enough, the IPS system comes with easy-to-use joystick commands, while assisted docking is optional.

MASTERFUL ACCOMMODATION

The chic continues on the lower deck where there are three well-appointed guest cabins: a full-beam VIP midships, a twin and a full-beam owner’s cabin fore.

Absolute, 52 Fly, yacht, Cannes Yachting Festival, Autostradas, Cesare Mastroianni, Volvo Penta

Forward view of the master suite

The VIP is as elegant, practically as large and is fitted to the same degree of luxury as the master suite. Seeing how the VIP shares a bathroom with the twin, a family may prefer to keep the aft cabin and twin for themselves and host any guests in the owner’s cabin for privacy.

All cabins have opening portholes for natural air circulation and memory-foam mattresses, while the twin cabin comes with beds that slide together to become a double. In a nod to the needs of family use, there’s a washing machine hidden behind the panelling in the lobby.

Absolute, 52 Fly, yacht, Cannes Yachting Festival, Autostradas, Cesare Mastroianni, Volvo Penta

The full-beam VIP occupies the same midships location as most master suites

An en-suite crew cabin has its own entrance from the transom. However, seeing how easy it is to helm this boat, it could well be used more frequently by a guest or a teenager hoping to sneak back aboard at some improbable hour without waking mom and dad.

MOVING FORWARD

The foredeck area is never an afterthought on an Absolute and the setup on the 52 Fly has a curved couch around a table that adjusts in height for coffee or dining. There are large sun pads, drink holders and lights that pop up from the flush deck when they’re needed. Fenders can be tucked away into storage lockers and the whole area can be shaded with an awning.

Absolute, 52 Fly, yacht, Cannes Yachting Festival, Autostradas, Cesare Mastroianni, Volvo Penta

The foredeck sunpad can be adjusted to create an aft-facing sofa

Any boat with ‘fly’ in its name is going to have something important going on up top and the 52 Fly doesn’t disappoint. The aft section can be set up with the same modular pieces used in the cockpit and the aft enclosure is glass.

Backing the C-shaped seating arrangement under the hardtop, there’s a full wet bar that owners can choose to set up as an outdoor galley complete with a fridge, icemaker and grill. The helming area on the port side is convivial with two seats by the wheel and sun pads right next to it.

The headrest on the sun pad flips back to become the backrest of one of the banquettes by the inlaid teak table under the hard top, a typically Absolute touch of ingenuity. There’s also the option of having solar panels installed on the hard top to provide enough energy to run the boat in hotel mode in total silence.

Absolute, 52 Fly, yacht, Cannes Yachting Festival, Autostradas, Cesare Mastroianni, Volvo Penta

Aft view of the flybridge

Speaking of silence, Absolute was an early adopter of IPS propulsion, which just keeps getting better. The fuel efficiency and reduced noise and vibration you get from this system are already well documented.

Fitted with twin IPS800 engines, the 52 Fly begins to plane at just 12-13 knots, cruises comfortably at 20-22 knots while consuming just around 200 litres of fuel per hour, and tops out at just over 29 knots.

The solidity and sturdiness suggested by the exterior lines aren’t an illusion: this is a boat that knows her stuff when it comes to handling easily and performing safely.

Absolute, 52 Fly, yacht, Cannes Yachting Festival, Autostradas, Cesare Mastroianni, Volvo Penta

The 52 Fly reaches 29 knots with twin Volvo Penta D8-IPS800 engines

She may be the youngest member of the Fly family, but the 52 is without a doubt an Absolute. Find out more about what’s inside and you’ll soon be seeing the engineering and ease of use more than the exterior look that runs in this family.

While her beauty may not be immediately apparent, to know the Fly 52 is to love her, as the saying goes, and the love that comes with knowing from the inside out is the kind of love that lasts.

Absolute Yacht's 52 Fly Is a New Direction In Luxury Boating

absolute 52 fly yacht review

The luxury flybridge market for yachts under 60-feet is crowded. There are many builders from all over the world designing vessels for this size range as its popular among cruisers that don't want to always have a captain on board. This size boat is manageable for an experienced owner and innovations in technology have made it reasonably easy to learn for those new to the recreation.

To stand out from the crowd it takes a fresh approach, one that truly puts the owner first and isn't afraid to test the boundaries of something new. In other words, a new direction from the conventional. The Absolute 52 Fly is such a vessel, one that integrates modern concepts and solutions for a cutting edge yachting experience. It's often said that building a boat is a series of compromises. If you add space to one area, you're subtracting it from another. If that's true on the 52 Fly, we can't tell where that occurred. Absolute has seemingly re-invented the phrase 'found only on much larger yachts'.

(Below: YachtBuyer gives a thorough review of the new 52 Fly.)

At the center of the 52 Fly experience is of course, the twin engines from Volvo Penta, a longtime partner of Absolute. “We have a strong relationship with Volvo Penta and have already installed their IPS drives in our whole range of boats,” says Cesare Mastroianni, vice president of sales and chief commercial officer at Absolute Yachts. “IPS has been revolutionary in the yacht-building market as the system is great for fuel economy, has a good environmental impact due to low emissions, and provides excellent on-board comfort for passengers thanks to minimal noise and vibration.”

The engines on the 52 Fly are the Volvo Penta D8 IPS800 models that reach a top speed of 28 knots and have a range of approximately 250 nautical miles. Keen attention was given to the construction of the engine room to ensure the low noise, emissions, and vibration. “The engine room was constructed with multiple slices of foams and plastics. The process is similar to preparing lasagna when you continually apply layer after layer to build up a thick base," continued Cesare.

The large, distinctive windows that have been synonymous with Absolute's Flybridge and Navetta ranges continue to evolve in shape, maximizing the amount of light, along with incredible views, throughout the main and lower decks. Traditional motor yacht or sportfish enthusiasts have questioned the aesthetic appeal of this trend, that other builders like Princess and Sunseeker have incorporated as well. "Spend one full day on board and you'll understand," said Jay Hendrix , Vice President of SI Yachts. "This is a great yacht to entertain friends overnight. Have a nice dinner in the salon and enjoy the views. Open the curtains in the morning from the owner's suite and watch the sunrise from your bed. Why buy a house on the water? It's all about the views!"

And the views from the flybridge are certainly worth mentioning, but so are several other features. Whether sunbathing or driving your yacht, the flybridge is always extensively used by all on board so having the space and necessary amenities are important. The hardtop not only provides shade, but can come equipped with 1,320W solar panels that will help power your generator during use, further reducing any noise. The aft deck terrace is a favorite among sunworshippers, complete with modular furniture that can be easily re-arranged for the perfect ambiance. Other flybridge features include:

  • Helm station with ergonomic seating
  • The most advanced electronics with large displays
  • Dining table, galley, and var unit for entertaining
  • Recessed lighting under the hardtop
  • Built-in storage

Driving from the upper helm station is an incredible experience at 20 knots and Absolute offers the very best in navigation electronics. Safety and control are top priorities.

Farthest aft, behind the cockpit is the hydraulic swim platform (seen below) which is an excellent option for tender boarding, a launch point for scuba or snorkeling, and even just a cool spot to sit with your feet in the water. There are two staircases, port and starboard, leading from the cockpit to the platform which is easily lowered into the water with the push of a button.

Like the flybridge, the cockpit on the Absolute 52 Fly features modular furniture. Absolute has a premium furniture builder custom making every piece for each model based on the owner's wishes. Create your own perfect arrangement by easily moving the chairs, sofas, and table. The flybridge overhand and the extendable aft sunshade provide relief from the afternoon soon after a long day of swimming and snorkeling. The same recessed lighting used on the flybridge is also used throughout the cockpit for a blissful atmosphere in the later hours. The nearby galley window reveals a wetbar and easy serving of food. Additionally, there is an aft docking station featuring joystick control.

Absolute has also designed open gunwales near the cockpit, opening up the sides and increasing the view.

The bow deck of the Absolute 52 Fly is another outdoor focal point popular with owners. Many builders under-utilize this space, but not Absolute. Every section of this yacht is designed for enjoyment. Forward is an over-sized sunpad that provides an excellent sunbathing opportunity while anchored or during a slow cruise. Twin facing sofas with adjustable backrests and a pedastal table allow for a breakfast spot with a view or evening cocktails under the stars. Absolute has also incorporated an overhead and side sun shade for your comfort.

The salon is bright, spacious, open, and full of natural light. Windows line each side of the salon, and a large windshield, sliding cockpit doors, and a rectangle window in the galley enhance your feeling of peace while at sea. The two salon windows can also be electrically lowered to allow in the ocean breeze. Ample headroom and light colors add to the voluminous salon, while natural materials, leather, and light-colored woods are a "fine expression of Italian design brilliance", as the shipyard describes their choices.

The twin helm seats are positioned on a raised platform, increasing visibility for the owner or captain. A side door can be opened for either fresh air circulation or for assistance while docking.

Below deck, the 52 Fly features three cabins and two bathrooms all of which feature surprising space, storage, and light. The owner's suite is placed on a mid-deck forward in the bow. This is similar to how Absolute designed the layout on another one of its models, the 56 Fly . A full beam master cabin also means extensive space to walk around, lots of storage, and a double berth. Portholes circulate the air throughout the lower deck.

The guest VIP cabin is midship and could easily be described as a second master cabin. It features all of the same amenities and may be your preferred owner's cabin should you not want to sleep near the bow. The 52 Fly also features a third cabin with twin beds that can slide together as a larger bed, or separate to twin beds with the push of a button.

Among the competition, the Absolute 52 Fly shines for its innovative features, commitment to comfort, and the fresh use of space on board. Other competitors in this class include the Azimut 53 Fly , Sunseeker 55 Manhattan , Galeon 560 Fly , Fairline 50 Squadron , and Ferretti 500. Our opinion is that the Absolute 52 Fly has the perfect combination of performance, on board comfort, design features, and price value that give it an advantage over many other yachts.

Absolute 52 Fly Review: A Compact Marvel

52 fly yacht

Absolute 52 Fly continues the successful new generation Absolute series launched with Aboslute 60 Fly, after the addition of Absolute 56 Fly last year

This year the builder delights with a smaller model, which debuted in Venice this June, and shone brightly as one of the most interesting launch of 2023 in Cannes in September. The new model may be small, but it’s very complete and mature, with several innovations that changed the 15-20-meter flybridge segment. The most interesting among them are the open cockpit and the forward master cabin.

This compact yacht delivers from the moment you step aboard, where the submersible platform doubles function as the tender carrier and a private little breach right down by the water. Next to it, there’s the entrance to the skipper’s cabin, which can easily be transformed into more storage space if you sail without extra help and is connected to the cockpit via two symmetrical staircases.

Automotive Elegance Afloat: Absolute 52 Fly’s Design Finesse

The transom is black, which gives the beach club platform a certain dose of automotive elegance, enhanced by several car-inspired details on the sides.

The cockpit has open view, allowing contact with the surroundings, and if you squint hard enough, you’ll get the feeling of flying above the water.

The cockpit furniture is freestanding and modular, with six comfortable sofas and one teak table, all ready to be combined and recombined into different shapes. The upper deck aft also boasts modular furniture and is accessible via a staircase from the main deck cockpit. The upper, fly deck is multi-functional, with a bar, a fridge, a U-shaped sofa and a dining table.

Forward, the command post is port, and a giant sunpad starboard, while on the bow deck, in front of the windshield, there is a large sunpad and with a small table. The sunpad transforms into another, forward-facing sofa, serving the table, and both can be protected from the glare by a soft top with a carbon structure.

Yachting Absolute 60 Fly Review: A Rave Step Into the Future

Indoor on the main deck, the layout is classic, with the galley aft and port, visually separated from the rest of the space by a glass surface. In the central space, the salon has two sofas, one large and U-shaped and another smaller one, both starboard, and forward there is the command post with two seats, Garmin screens and a dedicated door leading outside.

Modern Meets Classic: Absolute 52 Fly’s Interior Brilliance

The entire main deck is flush with natural light thanks to surrounding glazing, and has discrete atmospheric lights in the ceiling. Below deck, Absolute 52 Fly is almost as stylish as on the main deck, with similar lighting elements and decorative mirrors that soften the atmosphere.

The master cabin is in the bow, with a private forward master bathroom (the shower cabin and the toilet are on the far ends of the bathroom), and enjoys an amazing view through giant side windows.

The VIP cabin is almost just as impressive and can double as the master, while the third, twin cabin, can be turned into a double, and shares the head with the VIP. This cabin also hides the entrance to the nice storage space under the master cabin.

Unleashing Power: Absolute 52 Fly’s Dynamic Performance

Powered by two 600-hp Volvo Penta IPS 800 engines, the new Absolute 52 Fly reaches the 23-knot cruising speed at 2700 rpm (215 l/h), with excellent steering response and easily controlled trim. It is important to say that consumption always stays under 10 liters per mile, regardless of the speed, meaning that you just need to set velocity as per sea condition. While the declared top speed is 30 knots and is reachable in perfect conditions, we wouldn’t recommend it for longer cruising.

The model can be equipped with a docking assistant system, but even without it, the mighty Sidepower 215 system together with aft and bow thrusters make docking easy even for beginners. On the list of options is also Seakeeper gyro stabilizer, which was not present on the unit we tested, as are solar panels, with installation on the fly deck roof, for additional power generation.

The new Absolute 52 Fly is a mirror of everything the brand can do, and one of the most interesting models in her segment and class.

LOA: 16,76 m Beam: 4,67 m Draft: 1,40 m Fuel tank: 1800 l Water tank: 650 l Engines: Volvo Penta 2 × D8-IPS800 Maximum speed: 30 knots Cruising speed: 24 knots Builder: Absolute Dealer: Adriatic Wave
