About Hurghada

Why is Hurghada a good sailing destination?

At Yachting.Rent, we believe that Hurghada is one of the world’s top sailing destinations, and for good reasons. Situated on the Red Sea coast of Egypt, this city is a gateway to some of the most stunning marine life, vibrant coral reefs, and crystal-clear waters that this region has to offer. Here’s why we think you’ll agree that Hurghada is a sailor’s paradise.

Firstly, the city’s geographical location is ideal for sailing. It experiences more than 300 sunny days a year and boasts a climate that is warm yet moderated by the cool sea breezes, perfect for a yacht adventure any time of the year. The Red Sea is known for its calm and steady waters, making it suitable for sailors of all skill levels.

Secondly, the marine life of Hurghada is simply unparalleled. The Red Sea is home to over 1,200 species of fish, and more than 10% of these cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Not to mention the countless vibrant coral reefs that make every dip into the water a dive into a kaleidoscope of colors. With our yachts, you can sail to the best snorkeling and diving spots and immerse yourself in the mesmerizing underwater world.

Lastly, Hurghada has much more to offer beyond its waters. Its shoreline is dotted with world-class resorts, fine dining restaurants, bustling markets, and historical sites. Sail to El Gouna or Sahl Hasheesh, anchor your yacht, and explore the town’s cultural delights.

Choosing Hurghada as your sailing destination also means that you have access to Yachting.Rent’s top-tier services. We pride ourselves on providing luxurious yachts, personalized itineraries, and a professional crew committed to ensuring your sailing adventure is safe, comfortable, and truly unforgettable.

In summary, the blend of superb sailing conditions, abundant marine life, and the exotic charm of Hurghada itself, all contribute to making it an irresistible sailing destination. At Yachting.Rent, we look forward to being your companion in this sea-bound adventure. Let us sail together on the serene Red Sea and create lasting memories in Hurghada!

What Choose

Sailing boat or Catamaran, what to sail in Hurghada

Yachting.Rent is here to guide you through the decision-making process of choosing between a sailing boat and a catamaran for your unforgettable adventure in Hurghada. Both options offer unique experiences and are well-suited for exploring the tranquil Red Sea and the stunning coastline.

Sailing boats have been a classic choice for those wanting an authentic sailing experience. They are perfect for the solo voyager or small groups. The elegant design of a sailboat allows for a close connection with the sea, and there is nothing quite like the feeling of gliding through the water powered by the wind. Sailboats also offer deeper access into smaller, secluded areas along the coast and the ability to dock in shallower waters.

On the other hand, a catamaran offers stability, space, and comfort. With two hulls and a wide deck area, catamarans provide larger living spaces, making them a perfect choice for larger groups or families. The dual-hull design allows for a smooth and stable journey, even in rougher waters. Catamarans also have a shallower draft than most monohulls, allowing you to explore areas closer to the shore.

Now, why Hurghada? Sailing around Hurghada, whether on a sailboat or a catamaran, allows you to experience the beauty of the Red Sea at your own pace. The calm, clear waters and the constant warm climate make sailing an absolute joy. Moreover, you can anchor in front of the vibrant coral reefs for a quick snorkeling or diving session, or dock at one of the many luxurious resorts for a taste of the local cuisine.

At Yachting.Rent, we offer a fleet of well-maintained, high-quality sailing boats and catamarans. Each option is equipped with all necessary amenities to ensure your comfort, safety, and enjoyment. Our knowledgeable team is always ready to provide tailored advice based on your group size, sailing experience, and personal preferences to ensure the perfect match for your dream sailing holiday.

In conclusion, both sailboats and catamarans have unique attributes that cater to different needs and preferences. Hurghada is an excellent sailing destination that offers diverse experiences suitable for either choice. Trust Yachting.Rent for your sailing adventure, and we promise an unforgettable experience sailing the captivating Red Sea.

Discover egypt on a boat rental.

Egypt, a land of ancient wonders and modern marvels, offers a unique and captivating experience for those seeking to explore its beauty. While the Pyramids and the Nile River are well-known attractions, there's another fantastic way to discover Egypt's hidden gems - by renting a boat. In this guide, we'll delve into the reasons for a boat rental in Egypt, the types of boats available, pricing, what's included in the cost, mooring fees, skipper options, the best seasons for sailing, where to charter a yacht, the top sailing destinations, and boat capacities.

Egypt's vast coastline along the Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea and its picturesque rivers present many reasons to charter a boat in Egypt. If you want to explore secluded islands, engage in water sports, or simply soak in the sun, Egypt offers it all. You can also access historic sites along the Nile that are best reached by boat, providing a unique perspective on Egypt's rich history.

Sailing in Egypt offers a diverse experience, from tranquil river cruises on the Nile to thrilling adventures in the Red Sea. The Red Sea is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, making it a hotspot for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts. The Nile River, on the other hand, offers a more relaxed pace, allowing you to immerse yourself in Egypt's history while sailing past ancient temples and towns.

A note about currency. While I was there, the Egyptian government did a deal with the IMF and the bank exchange rate became the same as the black market rate. Before this, it was helpful to have an eye on the various rates (I can't remember who shared the link to it but I saw it on the forum https://egcurrency.com/en/currency/egp/exchange) when thinking about conversions. Some sellers would offer the black market rate in foreign currency if paying in cash, but bank rate by card for example. I’m not condoning it, it’s illegal, but it happened. Now the black market and bank rate are the same it's not such an issue. Most shopkeepers were still generally happy to be paid in foreign currency or egp for payments over $5 or $10. I didn't spend lots of money buying 'stuff' while I was there, so I mainly paid in egp for meals and taxis.

I flew from London Luton to Sphinx International. Getting the visa ($25) wasn't difficult but it took a little while. For some reason we had to go through security when we left the airport, can't quite work out why. Because our flight was late we ended up arriving at the same time as another flight and it took ages to get out! But got there eventually.

There is a place to buy a We SIM card just before the exit, but I bought a Vodafone SIM in Giza as I heard the signal is better. Even though my phone is unlocked in the UK the SIM wouldn't work so I bought an old phone from a friend of the person I was staying with. This meant I was also able to use the InDrive app which is cheaper than Uber (and works in Luxor and Aswan ). With an English phone I would definitely recommend using Uber in Cairo, or be prepared to haggle for every journey if using taxis.

Cairo is absolutely crazy, pure chaos. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did! To start with I felt sad for the street dogs and while I'm sure it isn't great for some of them, on the whole they looked like they were living their best lives. Their night time 'conferences' coupled with the car horns made it hard to sleep but I live in the countryside so I'm not used to the noise. And the coffee is good so I could manage a sleepless week.

Went to the Pyramids with a couple of the people I was staying with, and a guide. It was definitely good to have a guide, we didn't get hassled at all while we were there. Although we did get taken to an oil/ perfume shop. No pressure to buy though and we had some nice hibiscus and coffee.

Other sightseeing stops included the Citadel and Coptic Cairo . Didn't have a guide for these, so didn't learn much about them, but it was nice to walk around and soak up the atmosphere. Took an Uber to the Citadel and he dropped us on the other side of a six lane road which was an experience. I learned the hard way that flashing headlights mean stop in Egypt! Fortunately made it across. There are some great books in the alley on the way to Coptic Cairo and all fixed price. Went with a friend to the Cairo Tower - we didn't get the fast track tickets so spent a couple of hours in the cafe waiting.

Had a wander around Al-Azhar Park which was amazing. Couldn't even hear the car horns! Also visited the Aquarium Grotto Garden - no longer an aquarium but a nice place for a walk. I really liked Zamalek and had a potter about there and lunch at the Sufi Bookstore which was a good spot. Another day I walked from Tahrir Square back to Zamalek with the intention of going to the Opera House but got lost and didn't have time to go to any of the galleries.

Did some wandering about Khan El Khalili and had a nice meal at the Naguib Mahfouz Cafe . Didn't have time to stop in the Umm Kalthoum Cafe but that is on my list for next time! Would also like to spend more time in Downtown Cairo, stopped in a couple of cafes for drinks and it was fun to watch the world go by.

Saw the Tanoura Show at Wekalet El Ghouri which was absolutely incredible! Went to see belly dancers at the Andrea Maxim boat (arrived at 8pm, all wrapped up by 10pm) and the Lasser Fakir (arrived 10:30pm, left 2:30am) on the Blue Nile Boat in Zamalek.

After Giza I went to stay in Maadi for a couple of nights with a friend. Different vibe, a bit more chilled out and more international places to eat. Went to the Blue Nile Boat in Maadi to watch a belly dancer (on around 2am), it was more like a Western club feel and lots of people (men and women) dancing. Before I left Maadi we took a taxi to the Wadi Degla and spent a couple of hours exploring there which was brilliant.

Then onto Luxor via the sleeper train. I was planning on booking on the day but had checked the Abela Trains website a few days earlier and it looked like availability was limited so I booked online. No issues. I had some tea and some ice cream at Ramses Station while I waited. My expectations of the sleeper train were quite low, so I was pleasantly surprised! The toilets were clean and the bed was comfortable enough. Although as above I didn’t sleep much in Cairo so I was tired. I might be tempted to take a normal train (one of the good ones) with reclining seats if I were to do the journey again, to save some money.

The train was pretty much on time so arrived in Luxor around 6:30am. I stopped at the cafe outside the station and probably overpaid for my food but it was nice enough. Stayed at the Aracan Eatabe which was perfect for me. Right by the ferry to the West Bank, international standard hotel but cheaper than the other international chain hotels, clean and comfortable. It was really nice. Was able to leave my bag at the hotel while I went round the West Bank. Didn't haggle for my taxi when I got to the West Bank because I really didn't know how far I'd be going and what was reasonable, but 800egp felt OK in English money so I just agreed to that. I wanted to go the Valley of the Nobles, Hatshepsut and a tomb at El Assasif (thanks to ragoora for the recommendation! The tomb guardian was thrilled to take my picture posed like the dancers, I think I'm his wife now ;) ). My driver also recommended Habu Temple and Paris Cafe for lunch, both of which were really good.

I heard about a moulid that evening where I might be able to see Tahtib which is something I wanted to experience. By the time I got there (I had a dance class which ran late) it was mainly finished. I used the same taxi driver to get there, he sent his son with me so I didn't get hassled which I thought was sweet. I mainly chatted to a group of women through Google Translate though so he didn't have to do much.

On the way back to my hotel I got chatting to a guy and was telling him about the moulid, he took me to a hotel to see a belly dancer. Then back to their shop to buy some spices. The long hustle! I didn't mind though as it was a good evening. Probably overpaid for some things but again in English money it was cheap so I didn't worry. It turned out he had family in Aswan and his Uncle happened to be a taxi driver, so I arranged to go to Aswan with him for $50.

In the morning I walked to Karnak Temple and had a look around. The hotel let me keep my bag there past checkout so didn't have to take that with me. Then got a taxi to Aswan, along with my new friend who was going to visit his mum.

I stayed at Krouma Camp which is south of Seheil Island, quite out of the way of Aswan. My taxi driver and my new friend wanted to stop in to see some of their friends for food on the way and I was invited along. Ended up arriving late to Krouma but I'd kept in touch with them and they didn't seem to mind things running on 'Egyptian time'.

The breakfast and the view from the island in the morning were absolutely stunning. I found it hard to get someone through InDrive to come to the hotel but managed to arrange to meet someone by the Seheil Island public ferry.

I met my new friends in Aswan, a couple of them drove a caleche (with a healthy looking horse) so we rode around in that a bit. Went round the market and had lunch in a very Egyptian cafe, and made lots of stops for shisha, tea and coffee. While I was in Aswan they helped me arrange a boat to the botanical garden, the temple on Elephantine Island and a felucca. They also arranged some Nubian musicians to play some music for us because there wasn't anything happening on the West Bank when we got there. I didn't get to see much Nubian culture, which I would have liked, but it was fun to hang out with some Egyptians and practice the Arabic phrases I picked up in Cairo. They also taught me how to count to ten which turned out to be a good party trick.

I hired a kayak at Krouma camp with the intention of going round Seheil Island. Turned out I went the wrong way around the island and couldn't manage against the current along the West Bank, but I got a tow from a passing boat! I spent about a relatively serene hour on the kayak before that though and it was lovely to see all the birds and just paddle about in the Nile.

I plan on going back to Krouma because they do artist residencies and I'd love to connect with some Nubian musicians, plus it was beautiful. And I would like to spend some time going round the Nubian areas.

Got a flight from Aswan to Cairo, then Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh. In hindsight it was a wasted day travelling. Next time I will fly from the UK to Aswan, get the night train to Cairo, and then a night bus to Dahab . Anyway! Got a taxi through InDrive from Sharm to Dahab which was only 800egp, so that was great.

Stayed at Dahab Paradise which is a bit out of town but totally lovely. The staff were amazing. They had a sweet puppy living at the hotel, they took him in after he was hit by a car . On the first evening I went for a walk into Dahab and got drawn into Feel Lifted Cafe in Eel Garden. I went back a few times, it was a good place for a drink and to go for a swim. I was chatting to Bassam who works there, he is a driver in the busy season, while he didn't drive me anywhere I would recommend him. He gave me some great tips on things to do and places to go. His number is +201016140815.

I loved Dahab, such an awesome place. I didn't do any snorkelling or diving, but I went swimming in the sea at Laguna Beach and at the Magic Lake there. Mainly I enjoyed walking around and stopping in cafes for bedouin tea and shisha. Shisha House, Yalla Bar and Tea Garden were all nice. A taxi driver dropped me off at Sahrawi Kafih (صحراوي كافيه) which was locals prices and had delicious ice cream! I went there a few times.

One day I went to the Blue Lagoon. Got a taxi to the Blue Hole , walked to Ras Abu Galoum and then got another taxi to Blue Lagoon. It was heavenly. My intention was to have a swim, then head back to Ras Abu Galoum to hang out. I ended up staying there for a few hours in one of the cafes, dipping into the sea a couple of times. Then got a taxi back to Ras Abu Galoum and had some tea while I waited for the boat back to the Blue Hole. For some reason everyone got off the boat I was on and onto another, but I was told to stay (the boat was being driven by the brother of the taxi driver who took me) and I waited for another group to get on the boat. I had no idea what was going on so I just did what I was told, haha. Got back eventually.

Also went up to Tawilat Mountain, they have three stages of entertainment usually but being Ramadan and the low season there was just some singing round a fire. After that everyone watching was invited to go up into the mountain. It was fun to climb and gorgeous to see the stars and the view of Dahab at night. I arranged it through the driver that picked me up from the airport, he took me there and came in with me which was very helpful as no one else there spoke much English.

On my last day I arranged to go to St. Catherine's to go up Mt Sinai. Originally they tried to take me in a pickup (apparently having spoken to the police and confirmed all OK) but when we got to the checkpoint it became clear that tourists are not allowed to go in the pickup taxis. So I ended up going in a minibus on my own, arrived at St. Catherine’s just after 4pm. Just about made it to the top for sunset, and there were only two other people there. Truly bucket list stuff. Had some bedouin tea while the guides had iftar, and got back to the bottom around 8:30pm. The driver wanted 1800egp but the original price was 1400egp and that's what I paid. Bedouin guide cost 650egp which was more than I expected but the entry ticket to St. Catherine's was less than I expected ($5 or 250egp).

Also had a couple of walks in the mountains behind the hotel. Bumped into an English guy who recommended a book: Dahab's Walking & Scrambling: A route guide. I didn't buy it although next time I will! I would love to spend more time in and around Dahab.

Egypt is chaotic and crazy but totally captivating. I had the best time and I hope I will be able to go back soon!
