Back in the late 1950s, Willis Slane dreamed of building a sport-fisherman from a then-new material called fiberglass, with separate staterooms for four anglers, a roomy salon and a complete galley. Oh, and it had to beat back the mad mix of seas created by the warm Gulf Stream and cold Labrador Current off Cape Hatteras. In March 1960, the first Hatteras convertible was launched. She was the 41-foot Knit Wits.

Fast-forward to the present day, and it’s easy to see that the [Hatteras Yachts powers-that-be][] have kept Slane’s vision alive, building with the same attributes and commitment. Now, however, the dream is the buyer’s, and the vision is the Hatteras GT70 Convertible.

The newest entry in the GT line, the 70 fits nicely as a step up from the GT63, boasting a 21-foot-4-inch beam (that’s 16 inches wider than the 63’s). She is designed to offer everything needed for casual or tournament fishing, with an interior as elegant as her construction is tough.

Entering the salon, I was impressed with the arrangement where seating abounds. An L-shaped settee sits across the aft bulkhead and up the starboard side, which has deep stowage underneath. There’s also a custom-beveled triangular coffee table and an end table just forward of it. A 40-inch TV, Bose V35 home theater, Blu-ray player and stereo add to the comfort value. To port, two fixed bar stools at the granite-top island make a great breakfast nook. The island doubles as a space for prep and for serving and dining, and it includes six undercounter Jenn-Air fridge/freezer drawers. It also creates a dogleg path through the galley with two entry and exit points.

Forward and up one step is the galley and dinette level. Designwise, it keeps everyone in the mix with no intrusive bulkheads or high-back seats. A U-shaped dinette is elevated, good for keeping eyes on lines and offering headroom below.

A fully rigged galley is derigueur nowadays, and Hatteras doesn’t skimp. There’s the four-burner flat Miele cooktop, Sharp convection microwave, stainless-steel sink and garbage disposal. Two more Jenn-Air drawers are included under the port granite counter. The high-gloss teak wood finish throughout the salon and galley is eye-catching, and the teak accent strips complement the light-shade carpeting and fabric headliner.

I couldn’t wait to see what hull No. 1 of the GT70 had to offer from a performance perspective. Out on the water, I was not disappointed.

Visibility is everything, and I found that there’s not a bad seat in the house thanks to the large, frameless side and aft windows. I also admired the layouts of the five staterooms belowdecks. From a central staircase, there’s access to the forward guest cabin and starboard master cabin, with queen and king berths, respectively, en suite heads with shower stalls, and hanging lockers. To port is a double bunk room that shares the day-head.

Hatteras used the small void between rooms to construct a locker that holds 14 rods (sans reels) and a separate washer/dryer closet. Aft and down three steps are the other two staterooms (ideal for crew) with direct access to the engine room. This is definitely a fishing boat, but don’t discount her ability to be a family cruiser too.

It’s all business in the 200-square-foot cockpit, which has teak coaming, a fighting chair, a transom door, a 50-gallon transom livewell and 30-plus rod holders and rocket launchers (here and on the tower). Stowage for bait and gear is under the mezzanine seats and deck. A cooler ensures refreshing drinks, and the ice maker will keep the catch just as chilled. The molded tackle center has three drawers with bottoms that are vented and can drain, as well as a cutting board insert and space for plastic lure and hook boxes.

I couldn’t wait to see what level of performance Hull No. 1 of the GT70 had to offer, especially since she was powered with 2,600-horsepower MTU 16V 2000 CR diesels spinning five-blade Michigan wheels set inside prop tunnels. Those are big block motors for a big sport-fishing yacht.

Wanting to experience the GT70 from top to bottom, i ascended the tuna tower to the upper perch for a bird’s-eye view.

Out on the water, I was not disappointed. The GT70 moved along at 13.7 knots while those MTUs turned 1,200 rpm and burned 50 gallons per hour. That was a tame speed for this battlewagon. When she opened up to 20.5 knots at 1,500 rpm (100 gph), it was time to hold on. The pure thrust this yacht delivers will get her 120,000 pounds up and out of the hole in a hurry. My test vessel easily made 34.3 knots at 2,100 rpm (192 gph), and on the pins, the GT70 hit 40.9 knots at 2,450 rpm (266 gph). In addition to specifying sheer horsepower, the Hatteras design team created an effective and efficient modified-V hull form with double chines and side step-outs that deliver a sharp, soft ride with reduced spray. Also noteworthy was the lack of noise. There was not a significant jump in the decibel level as she increased speed, and conversation was easy thanks to the underwater exhaust that kicks in as engine rpm increases. Snug-fitting and quiet side curtains from Florida’s P&R Canvas helped too.

We had light winds and only a 2-foot ocean, which is not a wave-busting day, but Richard Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries was playing in my head as the GT70 screamed through the inlet. She inspires excitement. We hunted for boat wakes and crossed a few of our own to check the spray signature, and the finely tuned hull had sufficient flare to throw the seas away from the boat. More impressive was the minimal water disturbance in trolling mode, allowing for clean lanes and more natural-looking swimming baits and lures.

The ability to maneuver on a big fish is critical, so I asked Capt. Curtis Josey to show me the dance. He goosed the throttle over 7 knots with the transom essentially pushing the water back. More water came in through the side-mounted scuppers than over the gunwale, but drained just as fast.

A pod-style helm station allows for electronic boxes on either side of the helm with a full console that easily fit four Garmin displays. A drop-down overhead console can be fitted with radios, an engine display or other units. High Seas Technology fits out the electronics for Hatteras, and it did a yeoman’s job of spacing out the components.

Wanting to experience the entire GT70 from top to bottom, I ascended the tuna tower to the upper perch for a bird’s-eye view. Towers are great for spotting and chasing tuna and other pelagic species (say, a big blue marlin) and as a place for a control station to run the yacht. They also offer a higher point for mounting antennas, and a pretty good view too.

If Slane were alive today and could see the GT70, he would be quite pleased with it, I suspect. The dream lives on. Hatteras Yachts

Used Hatteras GT70 For Sale

hatteras gt70

Flagship of the current Hatteras GT Series of Convertible Sportfish Yachts, the GT70 replaces the Hatteras 70 Convertible (1998-2004) and tops the tournament sportfish line after the Hatteras 68 Convertible ceased production in 2011. Hatteras convertible yachts enjoy a worldwide reputation for “battlewagon” strength, seaworthiness, and durability combined with luxurious traditionally styled interiors. The GT70 is no exception, excelling at long-range fishing expeditions and multi-day tournaments with spacious, comfortable accommodations for a large crew. The GT70 is able to efficiently cruise the distance at about 25-30 knots and top out at 41 knots with amazing agility and efficiency for her beam and heft—a signature of the legendary solid Hatteras sportfish hull since the first Hatteras fiberglass sportfish was built in 1960.

DESCRIPTION

Though similar to the earlier Hatteras 68 and 70 Convertibles, notably different is the expansive 200 sq ft fishing cockpit with ergonomic mezzanine seating that does double duty with cockpit storage. Cupholders and air-conditioning from overhead vents add to the comfort of guests and crew watching the lines. Set up for hardcore fishing, the cockpit features large fish boxes, insulated bait boxes, integrated freezer boxes, transom livewell and a tackle center. Plenty of rod holders are in the cockpit side wings and in rocket launchers on pipework across the back of flybridge and on the tower (optional) supports. A support plate built into the cockpit sole allows an optional fighting chair or leaning post to be installed.

Hatteras has devised a platform for customers to select their own custom amenities, layout options, power plant options, fishing gear, electronics and more, to deliver semi-custom production boats with shorter build times than most custom-designed and built boats. And the advantageous ability to have a Hatteras yacht serviced anywhere in the world! Even with customization, Hatteras yachts remain distinctive with updated traditional styling—the Carolina-flared high bow, elegant sheerline, wide beam, set back flybridge, and high-gloss teak joinery imparting a bright high-end yacht interior. The convex, variable degree solid hull design tapers to nearly flat at the transom—proven to master wild inlets and offshore conditions, and provides a stable, dry ride with a soft reentry—seaworthiness that Hatteras yachts are renowned for. Deep prop tunnels keep the draft of this massive 70’ yacht with 21’ beam to a mere 5-feet! Powerful engines and smart hull design contribute to the GT70’s 41-knot top speed and 30-35 knot cruising speed performance, yet the yacht is able to spin on its own axis and back down on a big gamefish with ease.

The GT70 standard open flybridge (enclosed bridge is available) features a console style helm with a large dash displaying four 19” multifunction screens, is clean, functional, and easy to use with all systems within the captain’s reach. Three helm chairs, long bench seats with storage underneath on port and starboard sides, an aft-facing seat on the bridge forward bulkhead, and a bench seat with storage below is on front side of the helm console, provide lots of seating on the bridge. Drink boxes are in the forward corners of the bridge and freezers are on forward sides of helm console.

The salon is entered from the cockpit to port of the mezzanine through a door, not sliders. A large aft window and the new teardrop side windows fill the main interior cabin with natural light. A large L-shaped settee with storage below is to starboard and pop-up TV is in cabinetry to port. The traditionally equipped galley is forward to port and slightly elevated with a large island station doubling as a bar. Three barstools are on aft side of island counter and four refrigerated drawers are on forward side. The dinette that seats five-six people is to starboard and also elevated, for subtle separation from the salon and entertainment center.

The lower accommodations area can be configured a few different ways, a 5-stateroom, 4-head layout is standard with beautiful, high-gloss woodwork and understated elegance. The master stateroom with queen berth and ensuite head is forward of amidships, VIP guest stateroom with queen berth and private head is forward in the bow area, and the other guest or crew staterooms feature bunks or a single berth. All have plenty of storage, efficient valence mounted A/C vents, and excellent sound attenuation for great sleeping conditions. Washer/dryer closet and rod storage locker are in companionway.

Engine room is well-designed for access to main engines, gensets, pumps, and other machinery and equipment. Each engine has its own sea chest. Generators share a third and another handles the balance of raw water pickups. Electrical wire runs are neatly bundled. Space is available for optional Seakeeper gyrostabilizers.

The Hatteras GT70 is 73’8” including bow pulpit. Beam is 21’4” maximum and draft is an even 5-feet. Fuel tankage is 2140 gallons and water capacity is 330 gallons. Standard engine package is the twin Caterpillar C-32A 1900 HP engines; optional twin MTU 2600 HP engines are available. Two 21.5kW diesel generators provide liveaboard comfort. Weight is 120,000 lbs.

Hatteras GT70 – Boat Review

  • By Capt. Karl Anderson
  • Updated: January 14, 2015

Hatteras has been at it for a long time. It is well-documented how they led the charge into fiberglass-production boatbuilding, running at the top of the sea of production builders for a long time. Over the years, there have been ups and downs in the market, mergers, acquisitions and the sale of the company itself, but with an aggressive new product plan in place, the folks at Hatteras are once again looking to the top of the sea and over the horizon.

Performance

We had the chance to test the new GT70 on a beautiful December day out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with a northerly breeze at 10 knots and an easy-rolling small swell left over from a diminishing cold front. She wasted no time in -getting on plane with her twin 2,600 hp MTU M96 engines pushing her along swiftly to speed. Make no mistake: This is a big boat, and she pushes a big hole in the air. But pushing the throttles up, she responded and clipped along smartly at 30.5 knots at 1,900 rpm and a 73 percent load with a fuel burn of 162 gallons per hour. Backing her down to a slow cruise at 1,700 rpm, she ran along at 25.8 knots, burning 120 gallons per hour at a 66 -percent load, an easy lope for the engines and the boat.

Her long-range chugging ability and multitude of bunks make her a nice travel boat. At 800 rpm, she slips along at 10.4 knots, burning 14.4 gallons per hour. Dropping down to trolling speed, she’s pretty clean in the wash; on trolling valves, she can really sneak around, with plenty of clean water to show a fish a bait or two. Conversely, she has some speed at the top end that is noteworthy for a rig this big. At 2,100 rpm, she’s burning 188 gallons per hour, making 35.2 knots; at 2,300 she clips along at 38.3 knots. On the pins, she flew along at 41 knots, impressive for her girth and mass.

The GT70 is stable at cruise and very comfortable on the bridge and below. She can lay to without throwing your drink off the bridge when bottomfishing, and she can spin on her own axis with just a slight forward push. She backs faster than most anglers could ever wind, and she can spin and back with enough agility to catch plenty of blue marlin. Her Pipewelders hydraulic riggers and tower fit her beautifully and complete her as a serious fishing platform. Her molded hardtop has a drop-down overhead radio and gauge box as well as a molded-in box for her electric teaser reels.

Flying Bridge

Her large bridge has a nice layout with a center-console and a large dash that has four 19-inch multifunction screens within arms reach of the helm. Three helm chairs sit behind the console. Visibility from the helm was fine, with good sight lines to the bow and her stern corners. She has two long bench seats with storage underneath on either side of the helm as well as two freezers and a bench seat with storage under on the front end of the console. There are two drink boxes in the forward corners of the bridge, with an aft-facing bench seat and storage between them on the forward bulkhead of the bridge. You get to and from the bridge through an open hatch in the bridge deck to a ladder below that lands at the threshold to the salon. This is done to save space in the cockpit; it’s not the easiest way to get up and down, but many builders do it.

The spacious cockpit features mezzanine seating to starboard and multiple storage and refrigeration boxes under the seats and the deck. A drink box lies to port with a tackle cabinet below, with centerline engine-room access. Two huge in-deck fish boxes in the sole on either side of the fighting chair will hold lots of big fish, and a large transom livewell/fish box has clear fronts so you can keep an eye on your baits.

Moving into the salon, a pop-up TV sits along the port side, with a large L-shaped settee with storage beneath it to starboard. Forward of the settee, a dinette sits catty-cornered with room for five or six people. The raised galley sits forward to port with large countertops, a cooktop, a deep sink and storage over and under the counter. A large offset island to port has three bar stools along the aft side and four refrigeration drawers on the front.

Lots of Bunks

Moving down the companionway, the GT70 offers a lot of sleeping room. At the bottom of the steps, you can double back heading aft to the crew area, with a full head and engine-room access in the center. Two staterooms on each outboard side have over/under bunks and hanging lockers in each.

Moving forward from the companion-way steps, another stateroom to port -features bunks, with a hanging locker and drawers. Forward of the port bunk room lies a washer/dryer closet; just forward of that, there’s a full head with a large shower. Across the hall, an expansive master stateroom has an island berth that sits athwartships. A large hanging closet for two comes built into the aft bulkhead, with a flat-screen TV on the interior wall and a full-height cabinet on the forward wall. A private entrance opens up to a large head compartment with a vanity, a mirrored cabinet and a big shower.

Fully forward, the VIP stateroom has a raised island berth on the centerline, hanging lockers on either side aft and entrance to the private head with shower, vanity and storage to port. The staterooms are nicely sized, and the layout offers many bunks for multiple guests and enough crew to do the job right. The ability to accommodate a third crewman helps tremendously on a big rig like this if you want to fish hard.

Engine Room

Saving the best for last, the engine room is fairly spacious even with the massive MTU diesels. There are two 21.5 kW generators along the aft bulkhead, and access to the main engine fuel filters and raw-water pumps and other systems along the center is good. Getting outboard is a bit tight, but certainly doable.

With new products on the horizon and solid performers like the GT70, the folks at Hatteras are excited to be back on top of the game. Looking forward, you’ll be seeing more of the GT70 Hatterascal at tournaments and boat shows, and look for many more great things to come from this venerable builder.

Hatteras Yachts Available for Sale

The GT70 comes fitted with a Pipewelders anodized aluminum tuna tower as standard for elevated reconnaissance, piloting and fighting, though the fishing heart of this yacht is to be found in its 200-square foot, teak-lined aft-cockpit, the largest in its class. This adaptable space boasts hardcore fishing essentials such as insulated bait and fish boxes, an ice-chipper, a 50-gallon transom livewell, an integrated freezer, a tackle center with a bait-prep station, flush and mounted rod holders as well as a floor plate for the fighting chair or rocket launcher of your choice. Yet there is also room back here for a mezzanine sofa so that guests do not have to miss out on the action, as well as a drinks chiller and an integrated speaker system for when rugged anglers need to take a break, crack open a beer and relax.

This yacht can come with either an open or enclosed flybridge, each with a different layout. On the open models you will find a walk-around central console helm with plenty of side seating and a flybridge wet-bar station with an electric grill. Enclosed bridge models, meanwhile, make use of a centrally-positioned forward helm, opening up the rear of the bridge for an L-shaped leather sofa and a granite-topped mini-galley. On both models, however, you can be sure of superb visibility, teak-and-leather lined piloting chairs and a dashboard featuring Vetus bow thrusters, four Garmin multi-function touchscreen displays, instrumentation fitted by High Seas Technology, VHF radio, outrigger controls and more.

Stepping into the main-deck salon transports you from the practical and often messy world of tournament fishing and into a fantasy of high-gloss teak, sparkling granite, sedate leather and plush fabric that harks back to the classic yachts of old without ever feeling stuffy. Diamond-tapered side glazing and recessed lighting throws the spotlight on an L-shaped aft sofa to starboard that connects to a C-shaped dining sofa and table up front. To port, meanwhile, there is room for a Bose home entertainment system and curved cabinetry, not to mention a walk-in galley with a serving island, a Sharp combination oven, a Miele hob, a stainless-steel sink and six under-counter Jenn-Air fridge-freezer units.

The Hatteras GT70 exploits its broad, 21-foot beam to provide lower-deck sleeping space for up to 9 guests across 5 cabins while also providing room for four bathrooms. A pair of bunk twins to port sit across from an amidship single berth, while a pair of double staterooms offer sensuous comfort, plenty of storage space and timber-lined bathrooms with waterfall shower cubicles.

A resin-infused variable deadrise hull with a super-sharp entry and a Carolina flare at the bow offers all the balance and finesse required to chase after the feistiest Pelagic fish you can find, while a pair of CAT C32A 1825MHP engines or twin MTU 16V diesels ensure top speeds in the range of 41 knots. At the more leisurely pace of 12 knots, meanwhile, you can expect an ocean-going range of over 1,300 nautical miles, more than enough to take you to the Bahamas in search of prize-winning catches.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

hatteras yachts gt70

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

hatteras yachts gt70

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

hatteras yachts gt70

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

hatteras yachts gt70

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

hatteras yachts gt70

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

hatteras yachts gt70

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

hatteras yachts gt70

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

hatteras yachts gt70

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

hatteras yachts gt70

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

hatteras yachts gt70

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

hatteras yachts gt70

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

hatteras yachts gt70

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

hatteras yachts gt70

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
