Is a Crew Member About to Get Kicked off 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht'?

Jun. 5 2020, Updated 1:08 p.m. ET

After the absolute dumpster fire that was last season’s Below Deck, Below Deck Sailing Yacht has been relatively smooth sailing—even idyllic, for a Bravo show.

However, the new spinoff sailing series has just entered the midseason mark, which is when the drama usually tends to heat up with the cast swapping make-out buddies, losing their tempers with each other and generally being all-around messes.

In the teasers for the second half of the season, audiences were tantalized to see the possibility of a threesome brewing between Paget, Ciara and Georgia, and, of course, more ongoing drama between the most annoying couple on the boat, Adam and Jenna .

But what really caught a lot of people’s attention in the teasers was when Captain Shephard said to Jenna, “I would be very surprised if somebody few to Corfu with cocaine.”

Naturally, audiences are clamoring to figure out just who got caught with cocaine in their bag and whether that’s the end of their professional sailing career. Fans of the show will also remember the infamous drug incident from Below Deck’ s premiere episode, and the show’s no-nonsense policy when it comes to illegal substances on-board.

Keep reading while we dig into Below Deck 's cocaine scandals.

Which crew member on 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' got caught with with a stash of cocaine?

In the teaser scenes for Below Deck Sailing ’s March 30 episode, fans saw Captain Glenn confiding in Jenna, saying that he would be surprised if someone flew to Corfu with cocaine.

But in the next scene we see Captain Glenn rummaging through someone’s bag asking, “Is there anything in here that you don’t want me to find? What’s in here?” The captain ominously also adds that, “there might be a change of personnel.”

Although we don’t know exactly who the alleged drugs belong to, we do know that having illegal substances onboard is an extremely serious offense. If it turns out that Captain Glenn does find cocaine among any of the crew’s belongings, it’s safe to assume that they will be immediately fired and replaced on the boat.

What happened the last time someone found cocaine on the show?

Fans may recall the epic drug bust in the very first episode of Below Deck ’s Season 1 when stewardess Kat Held found a bag of white powder and a rolled-up dollar bill in a guest’s cabin. After Captain Lee was informed, he immediately turned his boat around to head to the dock, without even informing the charter guests until they were asked to leave the boat mid-charter .

Not only did the incident cement the no-nonsense tone of Captain’s Lee’s managing style with his crew and guests alike, it was also extremely entertaining television to watch a spoiled, rich charter guest like Johnny Eyelash (yes, that was his name) not realize what exactly was happening until he was unceremoniously kicked off the boat mid-charter.

"It was a tough situation to be in. On the one hand, we want clients to be happy. On the other hand, I don't want my boat to get boarded by the Coast Guard, and I don't want to go to jail for 25 years," Captain Lee said in his book, Running Against the Tide . "I made the decision to kick them off the boat.”

We can’t wait to see the rest of this season’s drama unfold on the Parsifal III. Tune in to Below Deck Sailing Yacht on Mondays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.

Inside Below Deck Sailing Yacht ’s Crash, and the Dramatic Aftermath

below deck sailing yacht drugs episode

Below Deck viewers have survived kitchen fires, nightmare charter guests , dramatic dismissals, drug scandals , and soured romantic relationships. But Monday’s episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, “Total Ship Show,” is unprecedented in franchise history, in terms of its sheer disaster quotient. Within the first five minutes of the episode, the Parsifal yacht crashes into a stone dock in high winds, destroying the end of the vessel and totaling Captain Glenn Shephard ’s already-dented ego. (Last week, Parsifal suffered a less serious collision. We hope the sailing yacht is not cursed.) The rest of the episode unravels like a high-paced thriller set aboard an out-of-control luxury yacht.

The villains: the shrill, gluten-free charter guests, who are too self-involved to notice the Parsifal ’s jacked transom door. The dramatic B-plot: the chef screwing up a five-course meal by serving steak after dessert. As if this were not enough action for a single episode, there is also an STD scare that forces an otherwise respectable woman to reckon with an indiscretion.

“It was almost like an embarrassment of riches,” said Below Deck executive producer Courtland Cox, of the chart-topping chaos in Croatia. “It’s amazing that this was all happening, but it’s also difficult to tell all of these stories in an interesting way within a limited amount of time per episode.” Some viewers complained that the season was starting off too smoothly, but Cox trusted the process and knew that such interesting cast members would yield climactic story lines. “With any great narrative structure, you want to have peaks and valleys that eventually crescendo into something interesting…. The yacht crashing, guests being crazy, and Jean-Luc [Cerza Lanaux] being worried about getting an STD, all that stuff is the seasoning.”

Ahead, Cox and Parsifal chief stew Daisy Kelliher take us behind the scenes of Monday’s bombshell episode to answer all of our burning questions—about everything from the crash to the onboard romances, including Dani’s pregnancy announcement.

Executive producer Cox was tucked away in a tiny control room on the Parsifal during both accidents, where he was able to watch what was happening from three different camera vantage points, and hear what was happening from the walkie-talkie dialogue on deck. Cox said that he knew that the Parsifal was going to hit the dock about five seconds before it happened—when first mate Gary King began calling out the shrinking measurements between the yacht and the dock, but the boat, because of the intense wind and swell, kept hurtling toward the dock at full speed. Because of a mechanical error that short-circuited the thrusters, Captain Glenn was not able to propel the vessel in the reverse direction.

As the ship sped toward the dock, the Below Deck producer juggled a contradictory range of concerns: the fear of a captive passenger aboard an out-of-control vessel; worry for his fellow shipmates; heartbreak for Captain Glenn, who was about to bite it in front of multiple cameras; and, conversely, the shark-like instincts of a reality-TV producer keen to capture the chaotic melee in all of its gruesome glory.

“The human part of me, my heart aches for Glenn,” Cox told Vanity Fair. Still, he continued, “My job is to capture what’s actually happening—so we told our camera operators, ‘Stay on Glenn.’ We don’t push right up in his face or get in his way, but the story in the moment was that Glenn hit the dock. How was he going to rectify the situation?”

In addition to seeing the crash, viewers also witness Captain Glenn’s spirit breaking close up—as the sweet Parsifal pilot realizes, in devastatingly real time, that he has not only incurred thousands of dollars in yacht damages, but has done so with a camera trained on him.

“I probably watched this episode 15 times in various incarnations, and every time I see Glenn’s face in the immediate aftermath of hitting that dock, I still get very emotional,” said Cox. “It’s a catastrophic moment for any yacht captain when you do damage to a boat. It’s the worst possible thing. And I also know that that’s compounded by a factor of a million because there are TV cameras on you.”

Cox has produced 16 seasons’ worth of Below Deck, and called the crash “the second-most intense moment ever on the series.” (The first-most intense was a near-death accident in 2018 during which deckhand Ashton Pienaar was pulled overboard after his ankle was caught in ropes.) “As a producer, it’s amazingly compelling. But as a person onboard, it’s terrifying…. But Glenn is a consummate professional. He didn’t try to deflect or make excuses or try to tap dance his way out of it. He went quickly into crisis mode, damage mode.”

Parsifal chief stew Daisy Kelliher said that watching the crash in the episode was worse than living it, “because I was downstairs when it happened. I have never seen a boat that crashed the dock or been in a boat that crashed the dock.”

Speaking about Glenn, Kelliher said, “He was pretty upset at the time, but you quickly calm down. It was an accident, and the main thing is nobody got hurt. It’s like banging your car. You get the insurance sorted. You learn from it. And you move on.”

How quickly did the episode’s events happen in real life?

The unfolded over the course of about 72 hours, according to Cox. “The boat hits the dock, it looks terrible, and Glenn’s like, ‘Well, the guests are getting here in four hours.’… The crew did a great job at kind of compartmentalizing, and putting the dock behind us as these charter guests come on. And the story becomes about J.L.’ s anxiety about the STD, and [chef] Natasha’s anxiety about these guests having crazy demands that are emotionally taxing on the heels of a traumatic event…. It’s exhausting for them.”

What did producers make of another unprecedented plot twist: J.L.’s on-camera concerns about a potential sexually transmitted disease?

This twist surprised even Cox. “I’m a fossil who grew up in the ’70s and ’80s,” said Cox. “What was going through my head was, ‘There’s a very easy way he could have prevented this—by using some kind of protection. If you roll the dice, you kinda gotta accept what happens to you. I’m not a heartless monster TV producer. I don’t want anyone to ever suffer or go through something they have an existential crisis over. In that moment, you’re hoping that it’s at least one of the lesser STDs that is easily treated.”

When did producers discover that Dani was pregnant? (The cast member revealed her pregnancy on Instagram last month.)

“Dani brought it to our attention when we were pretty far into the postproduction process,” said Cox. “Even once Dani found out, I think she kind of wanted to sit with [the news] herself. Then she let us know and said, ‘Hey, just so you know, I’m pregnant.’ We said, ‘Okay, great.’ I left that up to her and how much information she wanted to give us. My first reaction was, ‘That’s fantastic. Congratulations.’ Because she made it clear throughout the season that she wanted a family. The rest of that is for Dani to figure out.”

“I really don’t ask Dani much about it,” added Kelliher in a separate phone call. “I’m very aware that that she probably feels like she’s explaining herself to a lot of people. So I try and respect her privacy. We’ve spoken a little about it, but I figure the less I know the better.”

Do Daisy and Natasha eventually get to a place of mutual understanding and respect?

“I didn’t mind her,” said Kelliher. “On the show it looks like we hated each other. We were very civil with each other, and would laugh and sit with each other. It wasn’t constant arguing—that only came when it was time to serve meals…. At that stage, I had kind of given up, because I had tried everything. She didn’t want my help. She didn’t want to communicate with me…. I’m asking you if you’re serving five courses, you’re telling me no. I could stand here and keep arguing, but I wasn’t going to win in this.… We have a good relationship now. I have respect for her. But that [tension] never changes.”

What is Daisy’s read on the love triangle tensions between Gary, Sydney, and Alli?

“I wish I had been there for some of the conversations [between the three of them], because I don’t think they would have escalated as much,” said Kelliher. “I do think Sydney was pretty intense. I knew she was upset and understood why she was upset. If you’re a girl, it’s embarrassing if somebody chooses someone over you…. But some of the things she said were quite mean to Ali, and I didn’t really like that. If I had been there, that wouldn’t have happened because I wouldn’t have allowed it.”

“I’ve definitely seen love triangles. I’ve been involved in love triangles. This was intense because it escalated so quickly. I didn’t really get it. I guess maybe we’re all intense people—maybe that’s why you do a TV show about yachting. But I did find the whole thing a bit weird from all sides. I was like, ‘We’ve known each other [for] like three weeks…and don’t even know each others’ last names.’ Settle down.”

Below Deck Med's Hannah Ferrier Speaks Out After Being Accused of Having Drugs On-Board

Chief stewardess Hannah Ferrier was accused of keeping drugs in her cabin during the latest episode of Below Deck Mediterranean

Below Deck Mediterranean star Hannah Ferrier is defending herself after she was accused on of stashing drugs aboard the yacht.

On Monday night's episode of the hit Bravo series, bosun Malia White reported Ferrier, the ship's chief stewardess, to Captain Sandy Yawn for having Valium and a weed pen in their cabin. Ferrier was then confronted by Yawn, 55, about what was found — before the episode concluded on a cliffhanger.

On Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen after the episode, White claimed that she saw Ferrier take Valium in an attempt to get her anxiety under control after she had a panic attack over Chef Kiko’s departure.

"I think in that moment when she asked for Valium is when it really hit me that those were the pills that she was taking every night all season,” said White, 30. “That’s when it became a real serious thing for me.”

White also denied to host Andy Cohen that she reported Ferrier as revenge for her rooming situation: "I already had my bunk at that point, so, yeah, it was because it was my duty to. I don’t want to lose my licensing."

Ferrier, who was live-tweeting the episode, defended herself by sharing a photo of the drugs in question.

"I like Malia’s arranging skills,” she wrote on Twitter. “So that’s prescribed Valium, CBD (which is legal in Spain), a lighter (not sure what this has to do with anything) and my passport holder… And for anyone who’s interested the prescription is on the other side of the box as shown…”

In another tweet responding to a fan, Ferrier reiterated that the medications were legal.

"No...she went into my cabin AFTER we had the fight about cabin arrangements...Then went through my handbag and took a photo of my prescribed medication and legal CBD and sent it to Sandy," she wrote.

However, on WWHL , White claimed that having drugs — prescription or otherwise — violates charter policy, telling Cohen, "It’s not legal to take Valium on a yacht unsupervised, whether you have a prescription or not."

"Hannah knows that what she was doing was wrong," she said. "She knows that it’s against the rules."

Ferrier — who is currently seven months pregnant with her first child — said in early June that that the fifth season of Below Deck Mediterranean will be her last .

"I think I'm probably done," she told Entertainment Tonight . "I learned when I first started yachting in my very early 20s, you know, I would see these women who were in their late 30s, 40s, sitting at a bar, getting wasted with 20-year-olds living in a tiny cabin, and I was like, 'I don't want [that].' "

"I want this to be a good, fun, enriching experience that allows me to travel a lot, but I don't want to get to the stage where I'm locked into yachting and there's nothing else in my life except that," Ferrier continued. "It's a bit different if you're captain, but as a chief stew? They just don't seem like very happy people to me."

Below Deck charter guests accused of stealing cast members' identities as part of opioid scheme

Urologist Francis Martinis and wife Jessica are in troubled legal waters.

Jessica is a staff writer at Entertainment Weekly, where she covers TV, movies, and pop culture. Her work has appeared in Bustle, NYLON, Cosmopolitan, InStyle, and more. She lives in California with her dog.

A couple who appeared as charter guests on episodes of the hit Bravo reality franchise Below Deck are setting sail for court after being indicted on allegations of falsely using the names of cast members in a scheme to obtain prescription drugs.

Dr. Francis Martinis, a urologist in Fort Salonga, N.Y., and his wife, Jessica Martinis, were charged with criminal sale of a prescription for a controlled substance and falsifying business records in Suffolk County on Thursday, the district attorney's office announced .

Prosecutors allege that Francis, 55, electronically transmitted numerous prescriptions for oxycodone to pharmacies under the names of former Below Deck cast members, and that Jessica, 38, would pick up the prescriptions and pay with cash. But the prescriptions were never intended for the purported patients — none of whom resided on Long Island — identified on the orders, prosecutors say.

Fred Jagueneau/Bravo

The DA's office said the scheme came to light in January after Jessica tried to fill a hand-written prescription for oxycodone issued by her husband, when prescriptions are often issued electronically. When the pharmacist noticed she was not the patient listed, they contacted the Suffolk County Police Department.

The Martinises pleaded not guilty and are currently on supervised release. They're scheduled to be back in court Jan. 25.

"Doctors are supposed to be trusted members of the community," Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said in a statement. "Physicians are held to a high standard, as they take an oath to uphold a number of professional ethical standards when they begin their careers. The conduct Dr. Martinis allegedly engaged in with his wife not only violated this oath, but it also violated the law."

Peter Crusco, an attorney for the couple, called the charges "bogus" when reached for comment by EW, adding that his clients "look forward to their day in court to clear their names."

Bravo declined to comment.

The Below Deck shows follow the interior and deck crews of luxury ships and the affluent passengers they cater to during a charter season. The Martinises appeared on the spinoff Below Deck Mediterranean , and Francis also returned on Below Deck Sailing Yacht .

The sails might not be the only thing getting high next week on Below Deck Sailing Yacht . In the preview for the next episode of the Bravo series, we see Captain Glenn get even madder than he was when some oil spilled on the boat, after learning there could be an illegal substance on board.

During the last charter of the season, one of the guests is seen asking her friend, “Are you okay?” and explaining, “His eyes are rolling back in his head.”

We then hear Captain Glenn say, “I would be very surprised if somebody flew to Corfu with cocaine,” and stating, “If there are illegal substances on board, I have to do something.” He goes on to say, “He’s in deep shit if there’s drugs on board in his cabin,” and we hear a loud sniff from behind a guest room door. Uh oh, looks like this bro’s paddleboarding fun is about to come crashing down.

We’ll have to wait until next week to find out exactly what happens, but fans of the franchise will remember this isn’t the first — or the last — time that drugs on the boat were an issue. In Season 1 of Below Deck , stewardess Kat Held found a bag of white power and a rolled-up dollar bill in a guest’s cabin, causing Captain Lee to turn that boat right around and kick their butts off of it mid-charter. And in the latest trailer for Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5, premiering on Bravo Monday, June 1, Captain Sandy is seen having a stern conversation where she says “It’s been brought to my attention that you have drugs on board.” Yikes! Come on people, you’re on a beautiful yacht — you should just be high on life!

'Below Deck': Jenna reveals a guest is doing drugs on board, Captain Glenn wonders if he could go to jail

Bravo-backed 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' is drawing to a close, and from the looks of it, the makers have saved the best for last. The final group of charter guests is on board and looking to have fun. But will it be too much to take for the crew? Let's find out.

The team is already on the edge due to internal issues involving Adam Glick and Jenna MacGillivray's relationship and Chris Miller's injury. There is only so much they can take. As the guests were being served dinner, Billy, one of the guests, appeared a bit out of sorts. His friends asked if he had any "shady business" going on, to which he responded with an eye roll. Jenna was around when the guests were having the said discussion and had an idea of what was going on but didn't have anything concrete information about the same.

Later, Chris informed Jenna that he spotted a "white powder" on Billy's nose. The next morning, when Jenna went to Captain Glenn Shephard with the issue, he asked if she was certain it was what they were assuming it to be — coke — and not makeup? Jenna gave a dodgy answer, said based on his behavior it seemed as though Billy was doing drugs and she also pointed out that he was able to sit through a seven-course meal and eat it all.

"If there are illegal substances on board it's very serious. I can't think of anything worse than the boat being confiscated, me losing my license or even going to jail?" a shocked Glenn shared in his green-room interview. Glenn's yachting career is at stake and so is everybody else's — Parsifal III may not return after all, if it's confiscated that is.

Since, it was Chris who spotted the powder, Glenn wanted to make sure he heard all sides of the story before conducting a search on the yacht. If Glenn decides to rummage Billy's luggage based on assumptions, it might impact his and the crew's yachting career. The guests, in all probabilities, will not be inclined to give shining reviews and it might be tough for the Parsifal III team to have people on board. It's a double-edged sword for Glenn this time. Will he make the right decision for all? Only time will tell.

Below Deck Guests Arrested for Drug Scheme, Accused of Using Cast Members’ Names on Fake Prescriptions, Details Revealed

Authorities Claim Two Below Deck Med Charter Guests Were Arrested for Scheme Involving Bogus Opioid Prescriptions, Falsely Used Names of Two Other Castmembers

Authorities claim two Below Deck Mediterranean   guests were arrested for plotting an opioid scheme – involving bogus prescriptions from a doctor who also appeared on  Below Deck Sailing Yacht .

The urologist and his wife falsely used two other Below Deck cast members’ names while writing the prescriptions, said investigators.

According to officials in law enforcement, via nbcnewyork.com , Fort Salonga urologist  Dr. Francis Martinis  got arrested in Long Island. He was accused of stealing the cast members’ identities in a plot to get prescription drugs.

Officials accused Francis and his wife Jessica of writing fake prescriptions to obtain oxycodone, using the other cast members’ personal info.

Per the investigators, their plot began when the doctor’s wife tried to fill the fake prescription for oxycodone at a Kings Park pharmacy in January 2023 – and the pharmacist called the police after getting concerned about the handwritten prescription.

This prompted an investigation that showed that the urologist was sending oxycodone illegally to pharmacies in Suffolk County for two years, said officials. Many of the prescriptions allegedly were falsified, and the names of two Below Deck stars were used to write them up.

Officials claimed Jessica paid for the prescriptions in cash as she picked up the drugs.

“Doctors are supposed to be trusted members of the community and with that trust comes a tremendous amount of personal and professional responsibility,” said Raymond Tierney , the Suffolk County District Attorney. “Physicians are held to a high standard, as they take an oath to uphold a number of professional ethical standards when they begin their careers. The conduct Dr. Martinis allegedly engaged in with his wife not only violated this oath, but it also violated the law.”

Officials told the outlet that the couple, arrested in May, was charged with eight counts of falsifying business records and the criminal sale of a controlled substance.

“He abused the celebrity position that he had on that ship to take the identities of his crew members — if that is proven — and then use that to buy drugs,” said Michael Balboni , former New York Homeland Security Director, “that is a common scheme for a common criminal.”

The couple first appeared on Below Deck Mediterranean in 2019 on the French Riviera. A year later, the urologist also filmed as a guest for Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

But according to the couple’s lawyer Peter Crusco , they pleaded not guilty, and “evidence will show the charges are bogus and cannot be substantiated.”

“The DEA is rooted in an ‘all hands on deck’ approach to save lives from illegal drug misuse and abuse through enforcement, education, and prevention,” stated Frank Tarentino , the DEA Special Agent in Charge. “We identified two individuals who brazenly diverted controlled substances intended for medicinal purposes to the illegal drug market. These arrests are a reminder that a doctor’s illicit drug diversion can lead to irreparable harm like the drug overdoses and poisonings currently plaguing our nation.”

The couple was scheduled to go to court on Thursday.

“Prosecutors will want to send a message to all other physicians — you have special access to these drugs, you know how they work and if you do this you will be prosecuted,” said Balboni.

Couple who appeared on ‘below deck' in sea of legal trouble, facing charges in prescription drug scheme: officials, by jonathan dienst and courtney copenhagen • published december 13, 2023 • updated on december 14, 2023 at 3:30 pm, what to know.

A doctor who appeared on a hit Bravo reality show was arrested on Long Island -- accused of stealing the identities of cast members of the show in a scheme to obtain prescription drugs, according to law enforcement officials.

Dr. Francis Martinis -- a urologist in Fort Salonga -- and his wife, Jessica, who both appeared in the hit Bravo reality show franchise "Below Deck," are accused of allegedly using the personal information of other cast members to write bogus prescriptions for oxycodone.

Investigators said the scheme started to unfold earlier this year, when Jessica went to a pharmacy in Kings Park in an attempt to fill a bogus oxycodone prescription in January. According to those officials, the hand-written prescription raised concerns, prompting a pharmacist to call police.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the doctor had sent dozens of prescriptions for oxycodone to Suffolk County pharmacies over a two-year period, law enforcement officials said. Many of these prescriptions were allegedly fake -- written under the names of two "Below Deck" cast members.

Investigators said that Jessica would pick up the prescriptions and pay in cash as part of the alleged plot.

"Doctors are supposed to be trusted members of the community and with that trust comes a tremendous amount of personal and professional responsibility,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney. "Physicians are held to a high standard, as they take an oath to uphold a number of professional ethical standards when they begin their careers. The conduct Dr. Martinis allegedly engaged in with his wife not only violated this oath, but it also violated the law."

The duo was arrested in May and charged with eight counts of criminal sale of controlled substance and falsifying business records, law enforcement officials tell NBC New York.

Investigators did not reveal if they believe the couple were using, reselling the drugs or both.

Former New York Homeland Security Director Michael Balboni explained the allegations are serious, especially amid an ongoing national addiction and overdose crisis.

Balboni said, "He abused the celebrity position that he had on that ship to take the identities of his crew members -- if that is proven -- and then use that to buy drugs, that is a common scheme for a common criminal."

The pair were among the guests who chartered Sirocco, a luxury yacht that set sail on the French Riviera in 2019 and had part of their trip documented for "Below Deck Mediterranean." The doctor was also a guest once again the following year, this time on another Below Deck spin-off, "Below Deck Sailing Yacht." The series featured life on a 180-foot sailboat that cruised the Ionian Sea.

Following their appearances in the franchise, the doctor and wife duo attended promotional events with other crew members.

Peter Crusco, an attorney for the couple. said they both pleaded not guilty and that the "evidence will show the charges are bogus and cannot be substantiated."

"The DEA is rooted in an 'all hands on deck' approach to save lives from illegal drug misuse and abuse through enforcement, education, and prevention," said DEA Special Agent in Charge Frank Tarentino. "We identified two individuals who brazenly diverted controlled substances intended for medicinal purposes to the illegal drug market.  These arrests are a reminder that a doctor’s illicit drug diversion can lead to irreparable harm like the drug overdoses and poisonings currently plaguing our nation."

Bravo did not respond to a request for comment from NBC New York.

The two are scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Balboni said, "Prosecutors will want to send a message to all other physicians -- you have special access to these drugs, you know how they work and if you do this you will be prosecuted."

Bravo is owned by NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC New York and Telemundo 47.

Below Deck Recap: Barbie Land

below deck sailing yacht drugs episode

It’s a beautiful new morning on the St. David , and Captain Kerry’s attention to detail is as impressive as ever. He scolds Kyle for a drain cover left out — god forbid the guests see it and are reminded they’re on a boat.

Last week’s cliffhanger is resolved: Eileen seems fine and didn’t die in her sleep from a concussion. Kerry wisely has the crew put Eileen on watch for the rest of the charter. He then casually tells us how he once duct-taped a guest to their bed, which actually seems less humiliating than having your drunken discoordination shown on TV the number of times they’ve replayed Eileen’s fall.

At breakfast, primary Tina wears a T-shirt that boldly says, “She can.” What does this mean? Sadly, I don’t have much time to ponder it because the guests change into new custom shirts for their volleyball game. It’s Chicago (Illinois) vs. the Crop Tops (Iowa), and the latter’s shirts aren’t crop tops. Why make the pun if you were going to wear normal tank tops?

Fraser and Jared round out the teams and are spared the shirts but do have to wear pink sweatbands. The music and slo-mo get very intense for the final point, and I suddenly feel like a sports reporter. Chicago wins 21-19 in a nail-biter, not that we care. After his team loses, Jared again tries and fails to get cell service to talk to his daughter. She probably would’ve loved his sweatbands. The poor guy cannot catch a break.

And the sports coverage isn’t over yet! Kerry thinks the solution to Cat’s fitting-in problems will be electric surfing using his eFoil. This is misguided for two reasons: (1) The last time I saw someone e-surfing, it was  Mark Zuckerberg getting ridiculed by the whole internet , and (2) co-workers tend to dislike it when the boss shows favoritism,   even if your “therapy is salt water.” Of course, Cat’s special break annoys Barbie. For once, Barbie stays chill about it.

Barbie claims she respects Fraser and wants to get along, but she can’t help but make passive-aggressive comments. Fraser even compliments her vaguely Italian tablescape. She lets a barb (pun intended) slip: “I’m used to having a chief stew who tells me [what to do].” Fraser starts having war flashbacks to Camille and gossips to Anthony about the situation, gunning again for Barbie to leave. Barbie may have an attitude, but it seems like her work ethic will protect her from getting fired.

Is Barbie the main character of this season? Time will tell, but she definitely feels like the lead of this episode. She has drama with her boss AND a love triangle. Well, now it’s more of a love line plus a dot off to the side that wishes it was part of the triangle. In case that was unclear, the dot is Jared. Jared thinks he’s flirting with Barbie because she’s a pretty human woman who is talking to him normally.

As for the Italian dinner, the guests love Anthony’s cooking. And I love that he’s self-aware enough to call himself a little French guido. Tonight, he moved on from beet cappuccino to mushroom cappuccino with foie gras. Tina raves that she didn’t think something in a glass could be so good. In the last episode, I was starting to think her anti-glass stance was responsible because her friends kept breaking glass, whether in cup or door form. But after that comment it seems like she just really loves the flavor of microplastics and BPA.

At dinner, we also learned that before yachting, Barbie sold golf balls, hair straighteners, and finance on Wall Street in the Trump building. I’m not sure if the guests’ blank looks and “Okay, yeah” response is because they don’t want to talk politics or if they’re as confused as I am about what “selling finance” means. Did Barbie sell stocks? Bonds? The vague concept of money? Was she in a pyramid scheme?

Xandi tells Cat that of the guys on the boat, Fraser is most her type. Girl. She also reveals she’s divorced, and her dad had an affair with her ex-husband’s mom. Which is not as horrible as Anthony’s uncle having an affair with his wife, but what is up with this crew’s family members?!

Speaking of family, it’s the two-year anniversary of Anthony’s dad’s death. Fraser especially feels for Anthony because his dad is a cancer survivor. I really like their friendship. If anyone makes Anthony’s day harder today, we riot. He says opening a restaurant in Miami was his and his dad’s dream. Hopefully, he fulfills it, and I will be first in line to try whatever vegetable cappuccino he’s serving.

As St. David prepares to dock, Jared is a mess: he’s on the wrong side of the boat, still doesn’t know a meter is basically a yard, and has to scramble to get a bolster down when they’re only a meter away from the dock. Miraculously, the boat doesn’t crash. Jared felt great about it, completely unaware that he was giving everyone else an anxiety attack. Kerry calls him in for a chat and tries to explain what he needs, hopefully getting through to Jared this time, who says it’s “crystal clear.” Let’s hope that crystal wasn’t cleaned by Cat.

The guests were blissfully unaware of the near-crash and tip a generous $26,000. As they leave, Tina says “we’ll be back” which feels more like a threat than a compliment.

Kerry thinks Sunny has been doing a great job and has her practice driving the tender. Ben gives her a lesson, and she says she wants to become a bosun. I wonder if this is foreshadowing that Jared’s position will open up, but as lead deckhand, Ben would have seniority for that. They seem really into each other but are not yet a strong enough couple to handle any crew change-ups that may come.

To start their night off, the girls and boys separate. Did Barbie suggest a girls’ night just to avoid Fraser? Maybe. Everyone is revealing their red flags: Kyle started smoking at 12 years old. Jared is an angry drunk at 7:30 p.m. And Barbie is actually still legally married and friends with her ex/technically current husband. She claims they simply haven’t felt like going through the paperwork.

When the girls and boys meet up, Barbie tells Kyle he has “hot vibes” so it seems like Jared may get the hint. Meanwhile, Cat uses time in which she could be bonding with her coworkers to instead call a friend to discuss how she’s not vibing with the rest of the crew. Shockingly, e-surfing with the boss didn’t help.

Some of the group continues the party back in the boat’s hot tub, where Ben kisses Sunny, and Kyle kisses his tobacco pipe. They’re too loud, accidentally waking up Captain Kerry, who’s trying to sleep. This prompts Ben and Sunny to take things to the shower. Ben says he’s not ashamed to be caught with his pants down, but technically, he is not wearing any pants, only a towel. Sunny and Ben cuddle in bed.

At the hot tub, Jared, Barbie, and Kyle are left cleaning up. Barbie and Kyle make plans to watch “ Home Alone  or something boring.” (I must defend that  Home Alone  is not boring!) Jared notices Kyle spills some tobacco, and they both clean it up. Jared’s frustrated he can’t properly clean it because the deck is wet, but I find it hard to believe this boat doesn’t have a wet vac.   He makes a big deal of being mad about the mess, which is a flimsy cover for being mad   that Barbie is into Kyle.

Jared continues cleaning alone, then brings Kyle’s tobacco pouch down to him in Barbie’s room. Jared goes to his own room but can’t let it go and returns to Barbie’s unannounced. Thankfully he doesn’t walk in on anything because Barbie is practically edging Kyle, cleaning up her room while he waits on the bed. Jared asks Kyle to make sure there’s no more tobacco on the deck. Kyle says he’ll do it in a few hours when he’s up at 4 a.m. Drunk Jared wanders around the deck, cleaning and muttering.

Jared returns a third time and pulls mid-toothbrushing Kyle for a chat. He claims the reason he pulled Kyle aside to tell him to clean up is because “I don’t wanna do that in front of other people,” when we all know the reason is “I didn’t want you and Barbie in a room together.” Barbie, ever the hard worker, does her laundry in the background of this conversation. Kerry comes down, angry, because he can hear them two decks up. Will this be Jared’s undoing?

The Best Seasons in the Below Deck Franchise

By Amy DeVore

below deck sailing yacht drugs episode

If you’ve never watched the Below Deck series on Bravo , what are you even doing with your life? I mean, you’re probably out there working hard, or just like, living your life, being a solid human. Even still, if you haven’t checked out Below Deck, Below Deck Mediterranean , Below Deck Sailing Yacht , Below Deck Down Under , or even that one season of Below Deck Adventure , then just know one thing; you’re missing out. No but really, you are.

That said, sometime in your near future, you might just find yourself in need of a great show to binge. If so, you should consider dipping your toes into this ever-expanding nautical franchise , because it’s a good one. To make sure that you’re not wasting your time, we’ll even help you out a bit. Start with these three seasons of BD first, as they’re each truly the best of the best that this franchise has to offer.

Below Deck Season 3

The casting department for BD Season 3 deserves a raise. To start, Chef Leon Walker loathed Chief Stew Kate Chastain . When he wasn’t making beef cheeks, he was throwing her under the bus to Captain Lee Rosbach . After a kitchen fire, Leon left the boat, which saddened his eccentric sidekick , stewardess Rocky Dakota .

In defense of her fired pal, Rocky stripped down and jumped overboard, only to be returned by a neighboring tender. In other scenes, this stew was often in the laundry room, hooking up with the “taken” Eddie Lucas . Insert production, who brilliantly added in a running gag of soap churning in a washing machine. At this early-on point, camera placements were limited, but their trysts changed this, and now, cameras are everywhere onboard.

Additionally, many fun scenes transpired between Amy Johnson , Connie Arias , Rocky, and Kate, especially when whipped-cream was involved. Likewise, Rocky’s grenadine oysters and salads with Oreo sprinkles will leave you in stitches. Or vomiting, like one of the guests did after eating this meal. Luckily, Chef Ben Robinson boarded, sending Rocky back to the laundry room to continue singing about “ironing the Captain’s shorts.”

This season also had some negative drama. When Eddie and Rocky’s affair came out, Eddie chose denial, leaving Rocky to feel alone, which sucked. Luckily, the viewers put Eddie in the hot seat, and he stepped away from this series for several seasons. Overall, Below Deck Season 3 is one of the best around, and if you are anything like us, you’ll watch it on repeat.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 1 was a bust. Luckily, BDSY Season 2 saved this spin-off, and we’re thankful, because it’s now one of our favorites . However, due to COVID restrictions, both Seasons 2 and 3 lacked various elements, so this series didn’t really hit its full stride until Season 4 . To note, in all three of these later seasons, the viewers are (mostly) gifted with this series three staple cast members, Daisy Kelliher , Gary King , and Colin MacRae .

Out of them all, Season 4 is our favorite, as it’s a whirlwind, with a side of fun. To recap, Colin was single for the first time ever, and he and Daisy started up a boatmance. Later on, we learned that they had actually hooked up prior to filming. Shockingly, so had Daisy and Gary.

Outside of this drama, Season 4 had amazing interior and exterior departments. You’ll love watching these crew members bond, as each were kind and lovable, while also highly skilled in their various roles. Chef Ileisha Dell is the calmest chef in this entire franchise, and she’s also a former circus contortionist, which is fun. Furthermore, Alex Propson gave us the now infamous scene of his drunkenly placed water bottle on Captain Glenn Shephard ’s forehead, which will make you laugh, unless you hate humor.

To note, Gary’s playboy ways, which allegedly go far beyond flirtations, have since made headlines. Therefore, Season 5 is now hanging in the balance, and only time will tell how this spin-off fares. Even still, after watching Below Deck Season 3, we recommend that you watch the next greatest thing, which is Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4. Overall, you’ll love this cast, mostly, and that’s a rare thing to be said for this franchise.

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4 had a mostly fun, kind cast. In turn, the interior department saw minimal drama unfolding. Instead, Hannah Ferrier , Aesha Scott , and Anastasia Surmava developed a tight friendship. These girls are still close today.

Also, a sweet boatmance formed between the equally hysterical Jack Stirrup and Aesha. In addition, a series favorite returned in Colin Macy-O’Toole , who we want to protect and hug forever. Now, if you’re thinking that this season sounds too loving and drama-free (aka boring), think again. Three different Chefs roll through, so there’s definitely drama on the high seas.

The first one, Mila Kolomeitseva , the “absolute oxygen thief,” was fired after Episode 5, because she (likely) lied on her resume, licked steaks, and couldn’t make nachos. With a culinary background in tow, Anastasia stepped up to help, which saw June Foster coming onboard to assist in the interior department. Enter Hannah’s infamous line of “June, June, Hannah” here.

Finally, Chef Ben returned to save the day, again. However, this led to June’s ousting, as Anastasia had to step back down to her stew role. Sweet baby Colin tried to fall on the sword though, taking June’s firing for the team, until Captain Sandy Yawn stepped in, saying nope.

Sadly, this season of BDM was one of the last fun-loving seasons for this series. So, if you are looking for something fun to watch, we cannot recommend Season 4 enough , as it’s one of the best in the Below Deck franchise.

Daisy Kelliher dishes Below Deck Sailing Yacht success, reveals if she still stalks to Gary King after scandal

Daisy Kelliher on BDS Season 4

Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Daisy Kelliher has dished about her success on the hit show ahead of Season 5.

Daisy has appeared on three seasons of Below Deck Sailing Yacht and helped turn the show around after a lackluster first season.

Despite a serious rift in the dream team trio of Colin, Daisy, and Gary following Season 4, fans still can’t get enough of them.

Ahead of her fourth stint on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Daisy has opened up about life following her success and how she ended up on the show.

Daisy lost her job during the COVID-19 pandemic and at the urging of friends, she applied to be on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Speaking with The Irish Independent, Daisy admitted that a couple of weeks after applying, she was filming Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 in Croatia.

Daisy Kelliher dishes Below Deck Sailing Yacht success

Although it may seem like Daisy’s life has changed drastically since she became a staple on the sailing franchise, she insists that’s not the case.

“My life hasn’t changed dramatically, but there have been small, subtle changes – it’s been fun,” she expressed to the outlet.

As Monsters and Critics previously reported, one big change for Daisy is her new friendship with Hollywood A-list star Christina Applegate.

Daisy also looked back on her life since her Below Deck Sailing Yacht debut, admitting she didn’t think she would get the gig, but is beyond happy she did.

“The last three years have been kind of a whirlwind, I really can’t complain. I’m getting to do all my yachting work and slowly getting to do other things as well,” Daisy stated.

With her fourth season hitting Bravo airwaves this year, one can’t help but wonder how much longer Daisy will still be on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

“I’m just being a ‘yes person’ at the moment. The last few years have changed very quickly, so my attitude right now is just saying yes and seeing where things take me,” Daisy spilled. “I’ve done everything from podcasts to the show, to still doing both, so every day is very different. I don’t know what the future holds right now.”

Along with opening up about her success on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Daisy also shared if she still speaks to Gary following sexual misconduct allegations against him.

Daisy Kelliher reveals if she still talks to Gary King

Last summer, Gary was accused of sexual misconduct by a production team member. However, even before that, Daisy and Gary were at odds over things that went down during Season 4, especially her hooking up with Colin.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans have wondered where Daisy and Gary stand today following the scandal and their fallout. After all, Gary was removed from BravoCon after the allegations against him came to light, so no resolution to his and Daisy’s friendship was revealed there.

During an Instagram Stories Q&A session, Daisy asked who she talks to from the show. Dani Soares and Gary were two names Daisy brought up immediately.

Daisy Kelliher IG Story

Although she did mention she keeps in touch with others like Alli Dore, Daisy also declared that they all simply live different lives. Daisy confirmed that no other cast members from Below Deck Sailing Yacht live in London, where she resides.

Daisy frequently hangs with Below Deck stars Fraser Olender and Hayley De Sola Pinto. She also spends time with Below Deck Med alum Courtney Veale since they live in London.

The wait to see Daisy Kelliher back on Below Deck Sailing Yacht won’t be much longer. Captain Glenn hinted at when the Parsifal III crew will be back, and you can read what he had to say here.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is currently on hiatus on Bravo. Seasons 1-4 are streaming on Peacock.

About below deck sailing yacht.

Capt. Glenn and his comeback team Daisy Kelliher, Gary King and Colin MacRae resume their responsibilities aboard Parsifal III, along with new, dynamic crew members, as they set sail in Sardinia, Italy.

Capt. Glenn realizes that his laid-back leadership style has allowed his crew to become too comfortable and starts taking charge of quality control in the interior department, much to Daisy's dismay. In the galley, Chef Ilesha's cooking impresses the guests, but her indecisiveness and co-dependency lead to time-management issues between courses, which causes her to self-destruct. On deck, strong personalities collide, and a power struggle results in a near mutiny, as Gary clashes with his new overconfident deckhand, Chase.

Two overlapping love triangles further complicate the dynamics on-board, and a shocking hookup puts Colin, Daisy and Gary’s friendship in jeopardy.

With a near collision, fire, crew rebellion, gruesome guest injury and two different potentially season-ending engine failures, this is the most captivating and unpredictable season yet of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Below Deck’s Fraser Olender Expresses Concern About Jared Woodin’s ‘Aggressive’ Behavior: ‘Red Flag’

Below Decks Fraser Olender Expresses Concern About Jared Woodins Aggressive Behavior

While dealing with personal issues off the boat, Jared Woodin continued to alienate himself from more Below Deck cast members.

During the Monday, March 11, episode of the Bravo series, Jared, Fraser Olender, Anthony Iracane, Ben Willoughby and Kyle Stillie enjoyed a boys’ night out after a charter. Things took a turn, however, when Fraser suggested that the others help out Anthony more as he dealt with the anniversary of his father’s death.

Jared wasn’t thrilled by the request since he felt he did more than enough work. After Jared grew visibly frustrated , Fraser questioned his behavior.

“I know we are all going through our own s—t but Jared seems a little bit aggressive,” the chief steward said in a confessional. “If someone can turn to that so quickly after a few drinks, it is a red flag.”

The drama only escalated when the crew returned to the boat. Jared’s attempts to flirt with Barbie Pascual were not reciprocated as she officially chose to act on her feelings for Kyle instead. Barbie and Kyle subsequently went to her cabin to hang out while Jared got upset about the mess his deckhand left behind upstairs.

Below Deck s Jared Gets Into Awkward Fight With Provisioner Over Towels

“He’s on a f—king roll tonight,” Barbie said after Jared entered her cabin numerous times — without knocking — to express his annoyance with Kyle. Jared requested that Kyle clean up after himself, which didn’t happen quick enough for the bosun.

“You’ve got to understand. At the end of the day, I’ve got a job to maintain,” Jared told Kyle before their conversation got too loud and woke up Captain Kerry Titheradge . “I am not done talking. I just cleaned up a lot and it’s not even enough. I would like for you to vacuum up before you go to bed.”

Jared continued: “It’s my ass at the end of the day and the reason I took you down here to do this is because I don’t want to do it in front of other people.”

Kerry interrupted the talk before it got too heated. In a preview for the next episode, Kerry attempted to piece together what transpired before he got involved. Kyle was seen telling Kerry about how Jared “stormed into” Barbie’s room.

In response, Kerry asked Barbie whether she felt “threatened” by Jared’s behavior. Kerry also had a candid conversation with Jared, saying, “This is the second time you have gone on the piss and had bad behavior.”

Jared previously opened up about how problems at home were weighing on him.

“I only get two times a week to talk to my daughter. I’m in jeopardy of losing all communication if I do not adhere and stick to the schedule that I have,” Jared, who shares a young child with his ex , explained in an episode earlier this month. “I’m trying to build trust again. It is super important to me that I maintain consistency.”

At the time, Jared said the lack of communication affected his behavior, adding, “Last night was particularly difficult for me. It was very emotional because Tuesdays and Fridays are the days I am supposed to speak with my daughter. And not having phone service — I was not able to speak with my daughter. It is real.”

Kerry offered support while still reminding Jared that he had to do his job .

“I really care about where Jared is at and I can see that he is not in a good place. He is going through a tough spot but he is the head of a department,” Kerry said in a confessional. “You can’t have your head in the clouds or somewhere else. It affects your safety and the safety of the guests. You have to be focused on the job.”

Which Below Deck Series Is the Best and Which Is the Worst?

With various iterations of the Below Deck franchise, it’s only natural to rank them from best to worst.

The first iteration of “ Below Deck ” began airing on Bravo in the summer of 2013. A brief 11 episodes revealed a reality show different from the usual “Real Housewives” fare. In this case, the wealthy people vacationing aboard a luxury yacht were not the show’s stars, but instead served as rotating groups of charter guests. The real stars of the series were the hardworking crew of the boat, the peasants who at night rest their heads in bunkbeds located — you guessed it — below deck.

The peasants, sometimes called sea rats, have to actually work — and in very unflattering outfits. Again, not your typical Bravo aesthetic. The drama stems not only from their interactions with each other (boat-mances are inevitable), but also their interactions with the often demanding charter guests.

Since the inaugural season, four other versions of “Below Deck” have joined the franchise, and there are now only three weeks a year that pass without a new, original episode from one “Below Deck” series or another. I didn’t stumble upon the brilliance of “Below Deck” until early in the pandemic, but since then I have watched every season of every iteration at least twice. (Embarrassingly, I’ve seen one certain season at least a dozen times.)

Hop on board to see which spinoffs in the franchise have — and have not — earned their stripes. Ranking them was more difficult than anticipated, at least for the middle three on my list. I’ve also highlighted each franchise’s best and most necessary seasons, in case you’d like to watch (or rewatch) with potential bingeing shortcuts in mind. Let’s set sail!

The choice to place the flagship “Below Deck” series first in my rankings may seem like an easy out, but I’ll give you three specific reasons the original will forever reign supreme.

Kate Chastain, Chief Stew for seasons 2 to 7, is the epitome of cool.

Kate Chastain’s ability to remain unbothered is #lifegoals. She’s the show’s raison d’être. Don’t get me wrong: Captain Lee Rosbach , who steered the ship in seasons 1 to 10, is iconic and noteworthy. But he wouldn’t be the Captain Lee we know and love, the curmudgeonly Stud of the Sea, without Chastain providing some levity and humanity.

Despite Chastain being significantly younger than Captain Lee, they’re the dream team, as close as family. Their friendship hasn’t shown signs of sinking even after both left the show — in real life and on television in the form of recap shows, most recently “Couch Talk With Captain Lee and Kate.”

Season 3 of the original “Below Deck” is among the top five most memorable seasons of reality TV.

The Season 3 crew is the perfect mix, but there’s one cast member who stands out as more memorable than all the rest: Raquel “Rocky” Dakota . Rocky’s most hysterical antic? Taking off her clothes and diving overboard in just her underwear in an attempt to escape the boat. This was her only season on the show, and it was glorious.

The near-fatal man-overboard incident in Season 6 put the “real” in “reality TV.”

The infamous “fourth wall” between the boat’s crew and the show’s crew disappeared instantly during Season 6, when an errant line pulled deckhand Ashton Pienaar overboard. A cameraman had the foresight to release the line. If he had not, Ashton was within seconds of dying. Just writing about the incident made me tear up all over again.

There are many other people and events that put the original “Below Deck” a notch above the rest, but these three standouts cement it as the best show in the franchise.

Bingeing Shortcut: Chastain’s six-season run is impressive and shows a full character arc. Watching seasons 2 to 7 will give you more than enough of an introduction to the Below Deck franchise, while providing something that resembles a long-term storyline via her personal growth — not to mention her loving relationship with Captain Lee.

“Below Deck Sailing Yacht” was an exciting third installment when it joined the franchise in 2020, since the first two series take place on motor yachts and this one introduced a sailing yacht. Four seasons in, the core cast of Captain Glenn Shephard , Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher , Engineer Colin Macrae, and Chief Officer Gary King is solid.

Kelliher is considered the second-best Chief Stew of all the shows (second to Queen Kate Chastain), and her friendship-turned-love-triangle with King and Macrae is gut-wrenching television. Plus, Season 2 results in a baby for two cast members!

Bingeing Shortcut: Not only can you skip the first season, but you should skip the first season. It was dreadful, and the only person who stuck around for the following seasons was the affable Captain Glenn. Seasons 2 to 4 are must-see TV, but I don’t want the first season to throw you off!

I wrestled with the placement of “Below Deck Mediterranean” — the first spinoff in the franchise — the most. It premiered in 2016, just three years after the original, and recently finished airing its eighth season. For now, “Below Deck Mediterranean” gets a third-place ranking that could drop in future years. I don’t see it rising. Captain Sandy Yawn is an inconsistent micromanager, and there’s too much turnover among the crew.

The primary reason to watch “Below Deck Mediterranean” is the dynamic between Captain Sandy (who started in Season 2) and the seasons 1 to 5 Chief Stew, Hannah Ferrier . Whereas Chastain and Captain Lee will give you the warm fuzzies, Ferrier and Captain Sandy can barely contain their disgust for each other and are more likely to inspire frustration. Neither is particularly likable, but their power struggle is fascinating and ends with a midseason bang when (spoiler alert!) drugs come into play.

Bingeing Shortcut: The heart of the show lies with the Captain/Chief Stew struggle, so seasons 2 to 5 are your best bet.

“Below Deck Down Under” has been on for only two seasons, and I suspect future seasons will push the spinoff up my ranks. Since its 2022 debut, “Down Under” has shown promise for two reasons, both of which involve boating rock star and Chief Stew Aesha Scott , who we earlier met as a stew on “Below Deck Mediterranean.” Good-natured and clever, this New Zealander brings out the best in everyone and has a sweet relationship with Captain Jason Chambers that rivals the camaraderie of Chastain and Captain Lee.

Besides Scott’s ability to get along famously with most of her crew, she facilitated an aftermath of nurturing following a traumatic evening captured on camera during the second season: Two cast members, a male deckhand and a female stew, were the targets of sexual assault by other crew members. In another life-changing moment, the show’s behind-the-scenes crew didn’t hesitate to break the fourth wall and intervene immediately.

Producers made the choice to air the intervention and the raw aftermath. Captain Jason also fired the offending crew members. Meanwhile, Scott’s calm, caring nature amid the chaos gives me hope that we may soon see some needed reality reckoning in the Bravo-verse, which has come under fire in recent years for behavior gone way too far.

Also, Captain Jason is solid eye candy.

Bingeing Shortcut: You can skip the first season. It’s uneventful.

I was tempted to write “Bingeing Shortcut: Skip it” and nothing else, if that tells you anything.

It’s not that the one season of “Below Deck Adventure,” which aired in 2022 and 2023, was awful. It’s that the lack of necessity automatically renders it less interesting. That the promised outdoor adventures were few and far between didn’t help. Its single season’s noteworthy players are Captain Kerry Titheradge , who’s now steering the original “Below Deck” series, and charter guest Heather Gay of “ The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.”

It seems unlikely we’ll get a second season, and I’m OK with that. I have the rest of the franchise to keep me from walking the plank.

Bingeing Shortcut: Skip it.

Season 11 of the original “Below Deck” airs on Mondays on Bravo, with episodes streaming the next day on Peacock . You can stream the other iterations on Peacock too.
