Lil Yachty – “Who Want The Smoke?” (Feat. Cardi B & Offset)
By Sara Nuta
In May, Lil Yachty teased two new songs, one of them being “Who Want Da Smoke” with rapper BlocBoy JB. Since then, it looks like there’s been a lineup switch and the new (and revised) single, “Who Want The Smoke?” is dropping tonight, featuring power couple Cardi B and Offset. Judging by the sound of this track, it’s more like a power trio.
Over the span of twelve months, Yachty’s done a lot. The QC rapper released his debut studio album, Teenage Emotions , followed by a sophomore LP, Lil Boat 2 . All the while, Yachty seemed to be everywhere, featured on songs with everyone from Bhad Bhabie to Steve Aoki , and even dropping a single, “ Solitaire “, with Gucci Mane and Migos (the three are reportedly working on an upcoming mixtape together under the name Glacier Boyz). Most recently, Yachty collab’d with Valee on the track “ Wombo .”
In Bardi years, it feels like an eternity has passed. Since last summer, the Bronx native has gotten married , pregnant, dropped an incredible debut studio album ( Invasion of Privacy ), and broke an unprecedented chart record for female rappers. Cardi’s husband and Yachty’s labelmate Offset–amidst marriage drama–saw the release of Migos’ third studio album, Culture II . It’s all been brazy. But it doesn’t look like this momentum is stopping anytime soon.
All the rappers want to know is: Who wants the smoke? It’s a hard-hitting and straightforward question, just like the song itself. With a quintessentially intense flow, Cardi delivers her verse with venom and conviction, “They don’t want smoke with me/ The diamonds is choking me/They p*ssy need potpourri/These b*tches is 0-3/ And they in a lower league all in my ovaries.”
The cover art shows Cardi holding a bullet in her mouth, Offset clad in rings and sunglasses, and lil boat covering his face, all in a plume of smoke that’s as red as Yachty’s hair. Listen below.
“Who Want the Smoke?” is out now.

Who want the smoke – [lil yachty] ft. [offset] & [cardi b].
- Cardi B , Lil Yachty , Offset , Tay Keith
After previewing the new single back in May, Lil Yachty makes his return to the spotlight with the official release of Who Want The Smoke? with a pair of features you may not expect. Originally, the snippet surfacing a couple of months ago included the likes of BlocBoy JB that immediately had fans drooling for it to drop and now, the Tay Keith-produced record has guest spots from hip-hop’s biggest couple in Offset & Cardi B. With Boat behind the hype-setting chorus, the likes of Cardi B was the first one to jump on the banging instrumental with a catchy verse on getting money, haters not wanting any trouble and loving the attention & admiration in the process. Offset’s verse was certainly no slouch either but if you were to ask me, I think his wife may have outdone him on this one. I’ll let you be the judge of that but for now, take in Who Want The Smoke? streaming below and let us know who you thought had the best verse in the comments!

J. Cole responds to Kendrick Lamar with ‘7 Minute Drill’ — let’s break it down
OPINION: We’ve been waiting for one of hip-hop’s best rappers to respond to a diss from one of hip-hop’s best artists, and finally, we got action!

Editor’s note: The following article is an op-ed, and the views expressed are the author’s own. Read more opinions on theGrio.
When I woke up two weeks ago to Kendrick Lamar dissing Drake and J. Cole on the song “Like That” from Metro Boomin and Future’s album, “WE DON’T TRUST YOU,” the 20-something-year-old hip-hop fan inside my soul got excited. In a verse that made almost everybody listen to the song, Kendrick took shots at two of hip-hop’s titans, lampooning the idea of a Rap Big 3 as suggested by J. Cole on “First Person Shooter” — from Drake’s lackluster album “For All The Dogs.” I was ready for Drake — who has been famously embroiled in high-and-low-stakes beefs with Pusha T, Meek Mill, and Common (among others) and has had smoke for a litany of artists — to get competitive and drop some bars but we got some inspirational quotes from the stage and some subs (?) on Instagram. Le sigh.
J. Cole, on the other hand, I had absolutely no doubt would respond in some way. When? I had no clue, but there’s no way that one of the few rappers viewed for his tremendous lyricism and feature appearances that arguably puts him as one of, if not the, greatest “feature rapper” of all time. Again, arguable, but I’m willing to say it. If J. Cole is on somebody else’s song, I’m RUNNING to listen to it. And it doesn’t matter what he gets on, either. He is batting 1.000 on features. His features on songs from Benny the Butcher to 21 Savage to Summer Walker to Lil’ Yachty to Lil Durk to whoever and wherever else he goes is a trail of flames. His albums, though, leave A LOT to be desired . So much so that I was HOPING he’d hop on somebody else’s record and drop a verse going back at Kung Fu Kenny that put the hip-hop world on notice that if you want smoke, he’s got fire.
So color me curious but cautious when I woke up to a text message from a homie that said, “Surprise Cole album! So much for bed”. Even if I’m always worried about his albums being excessively mid, his albums are events, so I fired up “Might Delete Later” because Cole has earned my listens. I knew there’d be a diss record and scanned the tracklisting for which one it might be, zeroing in on the final record “7 Minute Drill” since Cole has a tendency towards putting the important record last — and I was right. But before I got to that song, I decided to listen to the rest of the album, and let me just say that I truly appreciate J. Cole following in the tradition of Drake’s album “Honestly, Nevermind,” with a title — “Might Delete Later” — that also serves as a sufficient album review.
That’s fine though. The most important record on this album is “7 Minute Drill” where J. Cole responds to Kendrick. Over 3-and-a-half minutes and a beat switch, we get a Jay-Z “The Takeover”-esque assessment of Kendrick’s body of work and a warning that Cole might have to go Nino Brown on Kendrick, which is fascinating since on “First Person Shooter” he put himself, Kendrick and Drake on the same status. Now, though, he might have to take his brother out, like Nino had to do Gee Money in “New Jack City.” Well played, Cole. Well played. I rather appreciated that reference as a means of explaining the situation.
“I’m Nino with this thing, this that New Jack City meme
Yeah, I’m aimin’ at Gee Money, cryin’ tears before I bust at him”
In reference to Kendrick’s catalog, here’s what Cole had to say:
“Your first shit was classic, your last shit was tragic
Your second shit put niggas to sleep, but they gassed it
Your third shit was massive and that was your prime
I was trailin’ right behind and I just now hit mine
Now I’m front of the line with a comfortable lead
How ironic, soon as I got it, now he want somethin’ with me”
This is what folks are likely going to be talking about … because it’s true. Even the most stan-tastic Kendrick fan should concur with Cole’s read on Kendrick’s catalog. “Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City,” was a classic, and “DAMN” was a monster. But “To Pimp a Butterfly,” while ambitious and worthy of note because it’s pretty singular in its existence as a hip-hop record, is better to talk about than listen to. The same goes for “Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers,” also another ambitious and amazing concept album, but I doubt many people listen to it regularly, if at all.

The only quibble I have with his bars is that Cole’s own catalog isn’t exactly that stellar. I’m not even sure he actually has what you could deem a classic under his belt. The closest non-mixtape record would be “2014 Forest Hills Drive,” I think, and that is a reach. “The Off-Season,” his last album, had some great records on it, but classic? Eh. Nothing else truly rises to the level of classic to non-J. Cole stans. I think most of us who don’t believe J. Cole is Rap Jesus, but really like him, are waiting for that album that makes us all understand the hype. But that’s neither here nor there; he’s still one of the GOATS. Point is, J. Cole going at Kendrick’s catalog is kind of odd since, well, Cole’s best work isn’t even on his own albums; as I said before, J. Cole’s features are worth the price of admission, the albums … not so much.
But again, I’m glad this record exists. We have two rappers of note and skill releasing records in the iron-sharpens-iron kind of way. Cole and Kendrick obviously have respect for one another — how could they not, they’ve worked together since the early days — so this is all hip-hop. J. Cole is undoubtedly one of the best spitters in the game. It’s effortless for him, and I can’t do anything but appreciate and respect that. Hip-hop is better because of J. Cole features. And Kendrick is Kendrick; at this point, who knows what he’ll do next, but when he drops an album we’ll all be talking about it again because that’s what happens with releases.
I hope we get a few more records back and forth during this before one or the other comes out at the other one’s show in either Los Angeles or Charlotte. In the meantime, I’ll be waiting for J. Cole’s purported final album, “The Fall Off,” like the rest of the hip-hop world.
Oh, and I guess we’ll keep waiting for Drake to respond, I guess.

Lil Yachty's Concrete Boys Unleashes Their Debut Album, 'It's Us, Vol. 1'
Lil Yachty continues to make waves.
After announcing the launch of his Concrete Rekordz label , the ATL rapper returned with the imprint’s first full-length project, It’s Us, Vol. 1 — a compilation album from his newly formed hip-hop collective, Concrete Boys. The effort was confirmed back in March, when Yachty unleashed the album’s first official single, “Family Business,” along with its video directed by Little Miles and AMD Visuals.
It’s Us, Vol. 1 highlights the label’s exciting roster of up-and-coming talent : Karrahbooo, Camo!, Dc2trill, and Draft Day, who were collectively introduced during the North American leg of Yachty’s The Field Trip Tour. The group’s first track, “MO JAMS,” arrived in December of 2023 and has since garnered more than 2 million views on the label’s YouTube channel.
Yachty spoke about the collective in a recent interview with Uproxx , explaining his overall vision for his Concrete Rekordz label, which is a joint venture with Quality Control Music/HYBE.
“These are my friends. So it wasn’t like I was looking high and low for talent,” he told the outlet. “These were friends that I’ve made along the way. The most important thing to me is my friendships — and trying to bring everyone up to a level of success so they can provide for their families is the goal. Plus, I’ve always just loved the idea of groups and crews.”
Yachty said he expected his artists to make their mark within the next 12 months and reach “mogul” status within the next five years.
“That’s more than enough time,” he continued. “You could say one year from now. But five or 10 years from now? That’s much more time than any artist needs to become successful. I want to make sure I say that. With today’s time, and internet [platforms], six months is all you need. But in five years, I plan to have four moguls, doing their own things, starting their own labels.”
You can stream It’s Us, Vol. 1 now on Apple Music and Spotify .

Lil Yachty Launches Concrete Rekordz With Quality Control/HYBE, Shares Video for New Track
To celebrate the news, Concrete Rekordz released a music video for their track "Family Business."
Lil Yachty is officially running the show with a new venture under his belt, Concrete Rekordz.
The rapper, who once said "hip-hop is in a terrible place," is bringing some new stars into the genre, including Karrahbooo, DC2TRILL, Draft Day, and Camo!. The artists will also appear on Concrete Rekordz compilation album It’s Us Volume 1, scheduled to release on April 5. The artists were first introduced during Yachty's Field Trip Tour last year, which continues for the European leg this spring.
In addition to the news, Concrete Rekordz, also known as Concrete Boys, dropped a new track, "Family Business."
"Yachty has always had profound vision since the day we met and to see him take his curatorial magic and expand it to discover and enhance other artists is exciting to me," stated Quality Control Music COO and co-founder Kevin “Coach K” Lee in press materials.
“I’m excited to see Yachty step into the role of executive alongside being one of the most formidable creatives in the world with such an eye for talent," added QC CEO and co-founder Pierre “P” Thomas. "Karrahbooo is a star and they are all going to be the new wave of cool that can bring something different to the culture that is so badly needed.”

Lil Yachty Revives A Classic McDonald's Anthem In New Ad For The Restaurant
The rapper is actually a former McDonald's employee himself.
McDonald's is no stranger to celebrity cameos and collaborations and that includes musicians. Often that comes through their own custom celebrity meals, of which they've done multiple. K-pop group BTS, reggaeton singer J Balvin and subsequently pop icon Mariah Carey have all lent their names to specific meals from the restaurant. The rap world is also well represented with Travis Scott , Saweetie, and Cardi B having collaborated in the past.
But in their new advertisement, they're taking the hip-hop collaboration in a much more literal direction. For a new commercial in Canada, where McDonald's is celebrating their new remix menu, they got Lil Yachty to do a remix of his own. In the ad he delivers an updated version of the classic "Menu Song" from advertisements the restaurant aired in the 80s. Yachty in particular feels like the perfect choice for the collab, as he's spoken in the past about working for McDonald's as a teenager. Take a look at the full remix he delivered below.

Lil Yachty Steals The Show In New McDonald's Advertisement
Over the weekend, Lil Yachty flirted with creating controversy. He shared a video explaining why he thinks some rappers are so angry, and they might have been offended by it if it wasn't so funny. Yachty claims that the simple reasons some rappers are so angry is that "they're ugly." The hilarious clip made the rounds online and didn't seem to cause too much trouble for the rapper.
Yachty has been working with a ton of young up and coming artists recently. He recently formed his own label, Concrete Rekordz. Additionally the project already has multiple signees who have dropped a few songs as "Concrete Boys. " There's also a label compilation album from Concrete Boys releasing in just a few days. What do you think of Lil Yachty's new McDonald's advertisement? Do you think it's impressive that he went from working at McDonald's to collaborating with the restaurant? Let us know in the comment section below.

Lil Yachty Stars In A New McDonald’s Commercial Performing A Remix Of The Classic ‘Menu Song’
Life is funny sometimes. Occasionally, you’ll have full circle moments where you end up seemingly right back where you started, but with a fresh perspective and occasionally, a new role.
That’s what happened for Lil Yachty . The Atlanta rap star got his start as self-styled “ king of the teens ” after leaving his job working at McDonald’s. Now, he’s back on ol’ Ronald’s payroll, except this time, it’s as a celebrity endorser, appearing in a new TV commercial, doing what he does best. In a fun twist, the song he’s performing is also redux; Yachty runs off his favorite menu items in a remix of the chain’s 1988 “Menu Song,” which appeared in its ads nearly a decade before Yachty was even born. It’s surprisingly catchy — but maybe not that surprisingly, since it’s Lil Yachty using his “Minnesota”/”Poland” flow. He even throws in a little bit of his fellow rapper Pusha T’s Golden Arches jingle at the end.
You can check out the full commercial above.
McDonald’s has had some great luck partnering with rappers over the past few years. Aside from the aforementioned Pusha T-penned jingle, the chain has teamed up with Travis Scott, Saweetie, Cardi B, and Offset to share themed meals that have brought in plenty of revenue for the brand — and for the participating artists. Lil Yachty is a perfect addition to that tradition. Now, if only he could get that Uno movie back into production.

J. Cole Responds to Kendrick Lamar Diss on Surprise New Album 'Might Delete Later'
The project's closing track "7 Minute Drill" takes aim at Lamar

J. Cole has some words for Kendrick Lamar .
On Friday, April 5, the rapper, 39, surprise released his new project Might Delete Later , and fans quickly noted a diss toward the "Rich Spirit" artist, 36.
On the closer “7 Minute Drill," Cole appears to respond to Lamar's takedown on his collaboration with Future and Metro Boomin’s "Like That."
“I got a phone call, they say that somebody dissing/ You want some attention, it comes with extensions,” Cole begins on the track.

The two-time Grammy winner then takes aim at Lamar's discography, hurling insults at 2022’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers and calling it “tragic” and implying To Pimp a Butterfly was boring.
“He still doin’ shows, but fell off like the Simpsons / Your first s--- was classic, your last s--- was tragic/ Your second s--- put n----- to sleep, but they gassed it/ Your third s--- was massive and that was your prime/ I was trailing right behind and I just now hit mine/ Now I’m front of the line with a comfortable lead/ How ironic, soon as I got it, now he want somethin’ with me,” Cole fires off.
Cole then says his words are a “warning shot," promising he can take things further with the "All the Stars" musician.
“He averagin’ one hard verse like every 30 months or somethin’/ If he wasn’t dissin’, then we wouldn’t be discussin’ ’em/ Lord, don’t make me have to smoke this n---- ’cause I f--- with him/ But push come to shove, on this mic, I will humble him,” he declares.
Cole then takes aim at Lamar's lack of releases, “Four albums in 12 years, n----, I can divide.”
On the second part of the song, there's a beat switch, which fans are theorizing features a sample of Drake 's "Energy" from If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late .
The beef between the "She Knows" artist and Lamar can be traced back to Drake's 2023 track "First Person Shooter," where Cole referred to himself, the Canadian rapper and Lamar as the "big three" of modern rap.
"Love when they argue the hardest MC / Is it K. Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me? / We the big three, like we started a league," he rapped on the track. "We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali."
However, Lamar seemed to disagree with Cole's assertion, and when he teamed up with Future and Metro Boomin for "Like That" in March, he mentioned "First Person Shooter" and said "it's just big me," referring to Cole's line in the 2023 song.
The rap titans have teamed up on several occasions over the years, with Lamar hopping on Drake's 2011 track "Buried Alive Interlude" and Drake collaborating with Lamar for 2012's "Poetic Justice."
Cole joined forces with Lamar for 2011 singles "Temptation" and "Shock the World," and they dropped a joint number with 2015's "Black Friday."
During an appearance on Lil Yachty's A Safe Place podcast in November, Cole confirmed that his long-rumored collab album with Lamar was "a real thing" at one point.

“In a nutshell, [Lamar] had pulled up on me at No I.D.’s spot after we was already building this relationship, and I had these beats at the time and I was playing them for him,” he said.
Cole continued: “So he took them and, you know, in that moment, we talked about, ‘Yo, bro, we should do a project.’ At that time he’s not on like that, but I’m f---in’ with him."
However, timing wasn't on their side.
“At one point, it was a real thing,” he said. “But bro, time and life, we ain’t ever got the chance to go in and do it correctly, because that would take time. For us to do something that’s full of our potential, that meets our real potential, you’re gonna need time. At least a year."
