From speedboats to superyachts: Owner Jeffrey Shapiro on his life in boats

Grace Trofa reveals one man’s journey from boat-loving hippie to marina owner

When I turned 13, my dad, Seymour, told me he had this big present for my bar mitzvah. He showed me this 11.5-metre boat named Sero , which was the name of our shirt company, and then he said, let’s take a walk.

When I noticed this 5.2m Chris Craft speedboat named Sero Too , I jumped up and down and gave him a big hug. He bought the 11.5m for the family and the smaller one for me. Next, he enrolled me in a power squadron course.

My dad enjoyed drinking and he had one eye. He could not dock our family boat to save his life. When he came in to dock the first time, he must have bumped into three or four boats. After the third attempt, he said, “You can’t do any worse than I did, see if you can do this.”

I was 13 and a half, had never docked a boat before, but the force was with me and I didn’t hit anything. From that point on, I always ran the boat in tight situations. I was a hippie in the 70s and didn’t want to go into the family shirt business. We were in my dad’s office one day talking about my future, when a realtor came in trying to sell him property.

At the time we had a 19.8m boat, and every Sunday we would go to this particular marina because it had a restaurant. My dad told the agent he was interested in this marina for sale in Clinton (Connecticut) to send him on a goose chase, but it turns out the marina was for sale.

My father said, well maybe you should go into the marina business. Lying in bed that night, I thought it wasn’t such a terrible idea. I loved boats and it was not a ton of money, half a million at the time in 1974. My dad said I’ll give you $100,000 cash, get a mortgage for the whole half million and then you sink or swim. I was 22 and I have been here for 46 years.

Our research lab studies the marina life and we tag fish. Before I switched to philosophy, I was a biology major in college and my wife, Mary, has a Yale Master’s degree in molecular biology.

She was a cocktail waitress at the marina’s restaurant when I met her. I am a vegetarian and I used to come in and eat the celery in the garnish container. She reported me to the manager, not knowing I owned the restaurant.

My father loved this 32.3m Lazzara , which we bought three years ago. We took it out every Sunday with like 50 people on board. The Coast Guard pulled us over because they thought we were running a ferry service.

When I heard the sirens, I thought, I wonder who they are running after. It was me! My father explained they were all friends. He passed in January; he was a lot bigger than life.

superyacht marinas are coming to a cruising ground near you

The pandemic-related boom in yachting has had ripple effects across the marine world. Owners are spending more time on their boats and visiting more far-flung destinations. The good news is that marinas in some of the world’s finest cruising grounds are coming online or plan to open soon. Which means that boating in paradise will be much more accessible and civilized. Here are six of the best new superyacht marinas.

Marina Pez Vela — Costa Rica

superyacht marina owner

About: Costa Rica has opened its arms to international yachting. In April 2021, the country passed a new law to allow luxury charter vessels over 79 foot to legally charter and remain in its waters for up to a year. The landmark reform is the result of long-term lobbying by the Costa Rica Marina Association and Fraser Yachts.

Marina: The country’s newest and largest full-service marina—Marina Pez Vela—is located on the central Pacific coast in Quepos, near Manuel Antonio National Park. It holds 195 custom-built slips catering to yachts up to 200 feet in length. A key feature is the custom-designed Coffer dam system, a state-of-the-art floating concrete dock that has created a tranquil basin and gives owners seamless access to their vessels, regardless of tides. It is the first and only marina in Central America to offer fiber optics to all 195 slips, along with direct IPTV connections. Following April’s landmark reform, two more marinas are slated for development. Flamingo is scheduled to open in January 2022 with 90 slips for yachts up to 125 feet. Crocodile Bay in Puerto Jimenez will open with limited services in December 2021, but when complete, it will be able to moor yachts up to 250 feet.

The Strand — Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

superyacht marina owner

About: The Turks and Caicos consists of 40 low-lying coral islands. They are home to some of the most spectacular scuba sites in the world, including a dramatic 7,000-foot underwater wall off Grand Turk island. Opening in 2023, The Strand is a new private residential community in the heart of Cooper Jack Bay, an undeveloped, unspoiled stretch of coastline on the protected south side of Providenciales.

Marina: In addition to the beachfront setting, The Strand will present 1,400 feet of canal and marina frontage, offering slips for owners, as well as several community yacht slips. Most of the slips will be sized to accommodate boats up to 40 feet, but some slips will accommodate motoryachts up to 60 feet.

Hurricane Hole Marina — Paradise Landing, Bahamas

superyacht marina owner

Location: As the name suggests, Paradise Island is a firm favorite among yachties seeking tropical island seclusion. Just a short flight from South Florida, the aquamarine waters offer cruising and round-the-clock access to the Atlantis Resort. More importantly for yacht owners, it’s a preferred destination to ride out tropical storms. In time to cater for a surge in Bahamian charters post pandemic, Hurricane Hole Superyacht Marina at Paradise Landing has undergone a redesign with new dockside residences, gourmet grocery stores and fine dining for owners, guests and crew.

Marina: Due to be completed later this year, Hurricane Hole will include docks up to 420 feet and 6,100 linear feet of deep-water docks. The marina seawalls have been designed to reduce wave action in all conditions. Additional perks include high-speed internet, 24-hour security, long-term parking, fuel dock and dockside mobile pump-out services, boat detailing, interior cleaning and golf cart rentals.

Palm Beach Marina — South Florida

superyacht marina owner

About: High-end Worth Avenue shopping and yachting nostalgia are the calling cards of Florida’s Palm Beach. Separated from the mainland by the Lake Worth Lagoon, the area is known for its glitzy real estate, cultural arts scene and year-round golden sands. The climate allows for a 12-month boating season along a coastline that is known for its easy coastal and inlet access to yachts of all sizes.

Marina: The 84-slip Palm Beach Marina has long been the only public superyacht port in the area, servicing both motor and sail boats since the 1940s. But the classic yachting hub is undergoing a radical transformation, thanks to a $40 million renovation that will see the addition of a 250-foot Royal Palm Dock, a new floating dock system and a collection of technological upgrades, including high-speed WiFi, enhanced shore power and upgraded security systems. It’s scheduled to reopen Nov. 1.

Riva Lounge — Porto Cervo, Sardinia

superyacht marina owner

About: Few locations hold as much cachet as Porto Cervo on Costa Smeralda, and few boat brands have as much heritage as Riva. The seaside resort in northern Sardinia remains a yachting mainstay where celebrities, royals and socialites gather, drawn by the area’s gastronomic thrills, trend-setting abodes and natural beauty. Sardinia also has some of the best diving in Italy, with maze-like caves and fascinating rock formations.

Marina: Last summer, the Italian icons came together with the arrival of the Riva Lounge, which opened in partnership with Waterfront Costa Smeralda. Designed by architect GioPagani, all the furnishings in the Lounge share similar features to those typically found on board Riva’s classic wooden boats. Aquarama chairs are paired with the same materials and woods used by Riva for 60 years. The 1960s Dolce Vita style—chrome, steel and lacquered mahogany—conjures up the golden age of yachting. In nearby Porto Vecchio, the Ferretti Group VIP Lounge offers a refined alternative in which to relax, paired with a temporary Riva boutique.

Montage Cay — Abaco Islands, Bahamas

superyacht marina owner

About: Make way for Montage Cay. The 53-acre private-island Bahamian resort is set to debut in The Abacoss in 2023. Located one mile off the coast of Marsh Harbour, the marina offers superyacht owners and charterers travel-bubble convenience with its proximity to an international airport and private jet FBO. The Sea of Abaco and surrounding cays make up a turquoise nirvana for boaters and sailors. The Montage Cay resort will include a collection of private residences built to be in harmony with the island’s seven white-sand beaches.

Marina: The 46-slip deep-water marina will accommodate vessels up to 110 feet, affording guests and residents of Montage Cay access to world-class boating, fishing and water sports. Montage Cay marina membership will incorporate all necessary services, including power, freshwater, dockmaster/harbormaster, valet service at docks for tie-ups, as well as a unique hotel to yacht dining service.

The multi-million-dollar mega yacht Scheherazade, docked at the Tuscan port of Marina di Carrara.

‘Mysterious’: the $700m superyacht in Italy some say belongs to Putin

Activists linked to Alexei Navalny believe the Scheherazade is owned by the Russian president

F or several months, the mysterious 140-metre-long, six-floor superyacht has towered over the smaller boats in the shipyard in Marina di Carrara, a town on Italy’s Tuscan coast, arousing chatter among its people over the identity of its wealthy owner.

“It’s the largest yacht I’ve ever seen here,” said Suzy Dimitrova, who owns a boat in the marina. “There are people cleaning it all the time. The last time I saw it leave [the shipyard] was last year. We’re all wondering who the owner is.”

The Scheherazade, said to be worth $700m (£528m), is under investigation by Italian authorities for potential links to sanctioned Russians. And activists working with the jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny are in no doubt that the yacht is owned by the Russian president Vladimir Putin.

On Monday, investigative journalist Maria Pevchikh and anti-corruption activist Georgy Alburov said that all crew members, obtained from a list dating December 2020, were Russian, apart from the captain. In a video published on YouTube, they claimed that some of the yacht’s staff worked for the Russia’s Federal Protective Service (FSO), an agency that manages security for high-ranking officials including Putin.

The activists, who have urged Italian authorities to seize the yacht, said this information proves it belongs to Putin. “They are Russian state employees, military personnel, and they regularly travel to Italy as a group to work on the mysterious yacht,” Pevchikh wrote on Twitter.

The interior of the vessel was described as being equipped with a spa, swimming pools, two helipads, a wood-burning fireplace and a pool table designed to tilt so as to reduce the impact of the waves.

In an address to the Italian parliament on Tuesday, the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy urged Italy to seize the yacht, adding that Putin and his wealthy supporters often holidayed in Italy and should have their assets blocked.

“Don’t be a resort for murderers,” he said. “Lock all their real estate, accounts and yachts – from the Scheherazade to the smallest ones.”

Putin’s last official visit to Italy was in 2019, at the invitation of the former prime minister, Giuseppe Conte. He also held talks with Pope Francis at the Vatican during the visit.

Marina di Carrara is close to Forte dei Marmi, a favourite holiday destination for Russian oligarchs, many of whom have bought villas and beach resorts.

In early March, Italian police seized a yacht owned by Alexei Mordashov, the richest man in Russia before being blacklisted by the European Union, and another owned by Gennady Timchenko, a billionaire with close ties to Putin , in the Ligurian port of Imperia.

Italian authorities seize one of world’s largest superyachts from oligarch – video

The yacht can only be seen through a fence, where it is continuing to undergo a refit, scheduled to be completed next year, in a shipyard owned by The Italian Sea Group, a company that refits and builds luxury yachts.

The mystery over its owner gathered momentum in early March, when finance police in Carrara boarded the yacht as EU sanctions against Russian oligarchs kicked in over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The police seized ownership documents from the yacht’s British captain, Guy Bennett-Pearce. At the time, US officials told the New York Times that they were also investigating whether the yacht belonged to Putin.

The Italian Sea Group said in a statement that it was continuing to work on the ship’s €6m (£5m) refit and maintenance despite the EU’s sanctions and that, according to documents in its possession, the vessel “is not attributable to the property of the Russian president Vladimir Putin”, and neither is it owned by a Russian on the sanction list.

A source at the finance police unit in Carrara said that they are now aware who the owner is and will soon make an announcement.

An investigation by La Stampa newspaper earlier this month had linked the vessel to Eduard Yurievich Khudainatov, the former president of the Russian state oil firm Rosneft, via a shell company registered in the Marshall Islands.

But Italian police are reportedly certain that Khudainatov is not the yacht’s real owner. “He seems to be a man connected with Putin’s inner circle but not so rich as to own a yacht like the Scheherazade,” said Jacopo Iacoboni, the journalist for La Stampa who carried out the investigation.

Until the Italian police reveal their findings, the people of Marina di Carrara continue to ponder, even if its presence causes concern. “Putin is the presumed owner, and looking at it now causes me a lot of anxiety because of what he is doing in Ukraine,” said Maria Cristina.

However, there are no signs of protests being planned. “There are always a lot of words, but little action here,” said Dimitrova.

Many concepts in social sciences sooner or later face ‘trial by geography’ — a consideration of their applicability beyond specific places and contexts, thus allowing these concepts to be either adjusted or rethought. The interest of this chapter is, then, to bring the analysis of post-suburbia from the Western economies into the former ‘Second World’ and to consider to what extent the ideas of ‘edge city’ (Garreau, 1991), ‘post-suburbia’ (Kling et al, 1995) and associated models of urban growth may apply for the latter. To this end we consider urban development and place-making on the periphery of Moscow. The analysis here is particularly based on the case of Khimki — a former Soviet off-limits ‘satellite city’ of Moscow and more recently a fast-growing area featuring many new retail, office and housing development projects right at Moscow’s edge.

6 Architects That Are Now Creating Designs for Superyachts

Exciting yacht design doesn’t require reinventing the wheel. But a fresh view always helps. That’s why more yacht owners are looking for land-based architects and designers for their new build and refit interiors, preferring a cross-pollination of ideas over the tried and true.

The first owner to shy away from the traditional yacht designer set was billionaire Lukas Lundin, who tasked Italian architect Cristina Gherardi Benardeau to design the interior of the 274-foot Savannah. The Feadship, launched in 2015, is largely remembered as the first superyacht with a hybrid propulsion package. But the interior is just as radical.

Benardeau, a designer of retail space for Giorgio Armani and Christian Dior Couture, gave the 262-foot yacht the world’s first “Nemo lounge,” or a bubble in the hull where the owners and guests could see underwater. It also featured what looked like a floating superstructure, employing long strips of tinted glass inspired by skyscrapers. (The same visual trick was employed later in Oceanco’s 361-foot Jubilee.) Savannah was the first boat to receive full metallic exterior paint job to blend in with the ocean surroundings—an idea later seen on superyacht Kensho, when it delivered in 2022.

Since then, a number of owners and boatbuilders have employed residential architects to do interior designs, as well as offer exterior flourishes (though naval architects complete the structures and running surfaces.) Rome architect Achille Salvagni has done projects for Rossinavi and Azimut, Lord Norman Foster created a series that later became the YachtPlus fleet, Lazzarini & Pickering designed the Benetti Motopanfilo 37M, and next year, Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez will show their talents on Azimut’s SeaDeck Series.

Even residential stalwarts like Zaha Hadid Architects can’t help but experiment with nautical projects. Following the 2016 reveal of the firm’s Unique Circle Yachts series, the studio collaborated with Vitruvius Yachts this year on Britain’s new “royal yacht” project. And more recently, the architects unveiled concept renderings for Oneiric, a proposed catamaran in collaboration with Italian shipyard Rossinavi.

From skyscraper to sea, here are six yachts designed by mainstream architects.

Architect Roberto Palomba has been designing houses for decades. His Milan-based studio, Palomba Serafini Associati, includes the Italian Consulate in Detroit, home décor and even tableware, among its past projects. His first yacht is the Amer F100, which features a unique “Glass Cabin” as the main salon. It was designed in partnership with Ludovica Serafini. “My aim was to change some standard boat elements to create something completely different,” Palomba told Robb Report during the yacht’s world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival. “Certainly, our perspective offers a fresh look, an architectural vision rooted in the world of architecture and interior design, translated into the realm of yacht design.” The Glass Cabin is an architectural glass box that encases the main salon and formal dining area with windows that are larger than other yachts with similar dimensions. The garden creates openness, light and a continuous connection with the sea. Continuing the theme, reflective surfaces are used on the walls and ceiling across all social areas to bring more light in, while stairs joining the main deck to the bridge are topped by more glass, opening the heart of the yacht to blue skies.

Kensho‘s owner was a first-time yacht buyer who wanted a one-of-a-kind vessel. He looked beyond the pool of yachting talent for a designer who could create a signature statement inside the 246-foot Admiral. The owner eventually decided on Paris design house Jouin Manku, an experienced architecture and industrial design studio, without a single yacht to its name. Co-founder Sanjit Manku took the design brief and ran with it, eschewing traditional yachting layouts for high-volume and big sea views. Variations on the established interiors include lofty 8.9-foot-tall ceilings, open-plan cabin layouts (where the bathrooms are on display) and locating the owner’s salon—more akin to an observation lounge—to the upper deck where the captains’ wheelhouse is traditionally located. “We drew on our restaurant design experience to create an ambience and furniture that is practical yet opulent,” Manku told Robb Report. “The dining chairs have ski feet that make it easy for guests to slide in and out, and we incorporated flattering lighting rather than ceiling spotlights.” The end result is a stunning, personalized interior that is unique in yachting.

Refits are also getting design overhauls by non-yacht designers. Lürssen’s 318-foot Carinthia VII, first delivered in 2002 and designed by Tim Heywood, was sold in 2022 to a new owner. He called on Italian studio Bizzozero Cassina Architects for what turned out to be a major refit in a nearly record 300 days. The architectural studio is experienced in real estate, including a few of the owner’s private properties. But yacht refits are a recent addition to its portfolio. “The key to any project’s success is to know the person, their lifestyle and the way they think,” architect Paolo Bizzozero said. “Only with these three ingredients can you remedy a truly bespoke environment that works for them and for their life.” Key additions include a 1,334-sq. ft. sundeck, with a large dining table and teppanyaki grill. Equally impressive was the 39-foot-long glass-paneled swimming pool on the main deck (with two large televisions to view live sports), and a 968-sq. ft. air-conditioned gym on the bridge deck that also serves as a winter garden.

Bentley fans who dream of a book-matched yacht interior might look closely at the 67-foot Contest 67CS. Commissioned by a private client and launched in November, it is the first collaboration between Bentley and Contest Yachts. with all the design flair Bentley could bring to a yacht. Conceived to match the luxe design of a custom continental GT coupe, the sailboat features the same materials, motifs and craftsmanship on its cars and home designs, including the same hand-stitching found on the Bentley steering wheel and the yacht’s Malvern Chair. Bespoke one-offs include a bar and vanity unit, the captain’s chair and “Egg” table, and a sofa which was hand-built at Bentley’s engineering facility and finished in its signature trim. The brand’s iconic diamond-quilted hides were also included across entire yacht interior. Small details like the tissue box and drink coasters were created from scratch to match the owner’s taste.

That is apparent in areas like the the lower-deck staterooms where the bulkheads hug the curve of the hull. Carved and layered wooden ceilings—a detail introduced from the owner’s experience in real estate—add drama and tactility. Most significantly, Burdi reversed the central stairwell and tucked it into the perimeter of the yacht to create a wider walkthrough and, in so doing, a work of art.

Businessman allegedly threatens to ‘ruin’ dock worker, ‘drops his pants’ in heated dispute over yacht parking.

A California philanthropist allegedly threatened to kill a dock worker during a heated argument from his multimillion-dollar yacht, before dropping his pants and making several threatening gestures to the employee.

Ajay Thakore, a local entrepreneur in the San Diego area, attempted to dock his Lamborghini yacht at the private Marriot Marquis Marina to pick up one of his employees but was stopped by worker Joseph Holt on Sunday.

“I told him respectfully that he couldn’t be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat,” Holt told CBS8. “But yeah, it completely went the other way.”

Thakore, who goes by his social media name, Ace Rogers, was riding on his rare $4.5 million Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht at the time of the daytime dispute.

Marina worker Joseph Holt flips the bird to yacht owner Ajay Thakore on March 10, 2024 in San Diego.

Holt claimed Thakore became hostile as soon as he was told off.

“It escalated immediately. It was 0 to 100 immediately,” the 21-year-old worker added.

Thakore, the CEO of medical advertising firm Doctor Multimedia, allegedly began to threaten Holt’s life as the luxury speedboat drove away from the docks.

“I will kill you, you know I will kill you, I will kill,” Thakore repeatedly yells, according to the video posted to YouTube.

Besides threatening to take Holt’s life, Thakore claimed to have the power to get the dock worker fired, ripping on the type of job he had.

“I’m a minimum wage worker, he was commenting on that, on my status just because of my job,” Holt said. “He was saying I’m nobody, I’m nothing, I work a silly job.”

Thakore allegedly threatened to kill the 21-year-old dock hand after the two got into a heated argument at the private dock.

“He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it,” he added.

During the heated discussion, Thakore allegedly pulled out his wallet and began throwing $100 bills at Holt and into the water, according to the outlet.

Holt said he tried to control himself during the incident and only gave Thakore the middle finger.

“I really didn’t know how to process it. I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird,” he said.

Holt said he tried his best to control himself during the incident and only gave Thakore the middle finger.

The dock hand blasted Thakore for his actions, especially in a public setting where he stripped nude and showed himself off.

“He had dropped his pants and started to make gestures to everybody watching and me. You can’t act that way in public. It’s just not OK. Especially threatening my life, at the very least. There were women and children there. That’s the most important part,” Holt said.

Thakore claims his outburst started because of a misunderstanding and was sorry for the people who saw it.

“The interaction that occurred yesterday was regrettable. What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange,” Thakore’s public relations team said in a statement, obtained by KFMB.

Port of San Diego Harbor Police were called to the Seaforth Boat rental dock for “a possible intoxicated vessel operator” but arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore and his boat had left.

As the boat drove off, Thakore allegedly dropped his pants to the floor and showed himself off.

The employee who attempted to board the extravagant boat defended his boss’s actions, saying Holt was hostile toward Thakore, and the businessman was only defending his team.

“As I went to kindly step onto the Yacht, I was impeded by two members that work for Seaforth Boat Rental,” Thakore’s employee Jason said on a post to the CEO’s Instagram account.

Jason said he was told to “stand back” the first time he went to step on the boat, and claimed he was forearmed during his second attempt to board the yacht.

“They physically got in my way, the situation became fairly tense, there was a lot of screaming back and forth, extremely confrontational, I didn’t fully understand protocol, as I was going to step onto the boat.”

“As all of this happened, my boss flipped and he’s very protective of me, his fiancée, of his employees.” Jason added. “It was a confusing situation that became very tense and very confrontational.”

Thakore claims his outburst started because of a misunderstanding and he was only defending his own employee.

Thakore captioned the post saying “there are two sides to every story and it’s easy to paint a picture with edited video clips from cell phones.”

“My employee Jason was being restricted, restrained, and threatened while trying to board my yacht. As a leader, I defend my own fiercely with everything I have, and I will never apologize for that,” the caption read.

Robert (Bob) Hathaway, 66, a British expat and director of Marigot Sunshine Ltd has been found dead at his home in St Lucia. Local authorities suspect that Hathaway was murdered.

Hathaway was born in the UK and educated as an engineer at the University of Cambridge. He joined the marine industry as the technical operations director of a yacht building and repair company near Southampton, UK.

After sailing to Saint Lucia in 2001 and buying land in Marigot Bay, Hathaway’s plans for retirement were cut short when the opportunity arose to build and design a solar-powered catamaran for the bay.

The solar-powered catamaran project was followed by the establishment of The Marina at Marigot Bay, an “exclusive superyacht marina with berthing for yachts up to 80m LOA”, which he managed from 2006-2014. Hathaway’s achievements also included time as a yacht designer and naval architect, including the developing the concept for a 37m refit, a yacht captain, president of the Marine Industries Association of Saint Lucia, deputy chairman of the Saint Lucia Government Watercraft Advisory Committee and vice-president of the Caribbean Marine Association.

According to The Times a police spokesman said: “We can confirm that the body of a British national has been found where he lived in Grand Riviere, Gros Islet. We are waiting for the forensic report to establish his cause of death”. The post mortem was due to take place on Monday 14 th January.

Chuck liddell explains viral yacht mishap, here's what happened, chuck liddell explains viral yacht mishap ... here's what happened, exclusive 76 3/9/2024 12:40 am pt.

Chuck Liddell is finally addressing what led to him going overboard on a Lamborghini yacht last month ... telling TMZ Sports it was a simple whoopsie-daisy moment.

The Iceman turned into Aquaman during a recent trip to San Diego ... falling off the side of the luxurious watercraft in front of all his peers -- requiring some serious assistance to get out of the water.

Liddell chalked the fall up to his animated hand gestures while talking ... and once he lost his balance, he only had two options -- hit the deck or aim for the H20.

Of course, Liddell chose the latter ... and in his opinion, that was the best way to avoid getting hurt.

The former UFC superstar says he's a pro when it comes to boats ... and he's pretty adventurous at sea, even doing flips off top decks of much bigger vessels in the past.

As for how he's doing, Liddell says he's completely fine ... so everyone can relax.

In fact, he tells us he's heading to Miami ... and chances are he'll be back on the water again.
