Rapper Lil Yachty is developing an action heist comedy based on Uno — yes, the card game — with Mattel Films.

Marcy Kelly wrote the screenplay for the movie, set in the underground hip hop world of Atlanta. Though the cast has not been announced, Lil Yachty is being eyed for the lead role.

“I’m so excited to be part of this film with Mattel,” said Lil Yachty, a musician best known for the songs “Broccoli” and “iSpy.” “I played Uno as a kid and still do today, so to spin that into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene I came out of is really special. It hits close to home for me.”

Uno was created in a Cincinnati barbershop in the ’70s as a way for families to spend time together. Five decades later, the game is available in more than 80 countries. Mattel has owned the game since 1992.

Along with Lil Yachty, Mattel Films will produce the movie with Quality Control’s Kevin “Coach K” Lee, Pierre “P” Thomas and Brian Sher for Quality Films.

Robbie Brenner, executive producer, and Kevin McKeon, supervising producer, will lead the project for Mattel Films.

“At Mattel Films, we are looking to explore stories that bring our brands to life in unexpected ways,” said Brenner. “Uno is a game that transcends generations and cultures and we look forward to partnering with Lil Yachty, as well as with Coach, P, and Brian Sher, to transform the classic Uno game into a comedic action adventure.”

Numerous films have been based on Mattel products and toys, including American Girl, Barbie, Barney, Hot Wheels and Magic 8 Ball.

Lil Yachty is represented by ICM Partners and Uwonda Carter Scott. Kelly is represented by 3Arts Entertainment and JYWAMM.

Paramount+ has unveiled the first trailer for On The Come Up , which features Lil Yachty , Method Man , and more. The film adaptation of Angie Thomas’ hip-hop-themed coming-of-age novel, On The Come Up, premieres next month.

On the Come Up is the feature directorial debut of Emmy-nominated actress Sanaa Lathan and will also hold its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.

On the Come Up will premiere on the streaming service starting on Friday, September 23 in the U.S., Canada, Italy, and later in the year in additional international territories.

According to a logline, the film tells the story of “Bri, a 16-year-old gifted rapper, who attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to lift up her family and do right by the legacy of her father–a local hip hop legend whose career was cut short by gang violence. But when her first hit song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, she finds herself torn between the authenticity that got her this far and the false persona that the industry wants to impose upon her.”

Yachty has been quiet on the music front this year. Around this time in 2021, he released Birthday Mix Vol. 6 via Quality Control Music & Motown Records. The annual tradition is a fan favorite among Yachty devotees.

The rapper, entrepreneur, and mogul has released his birthday mixes since 2015 exclusively on SoundCloud, with this installation being the first available on all streaming platforms.  Birthday Mix Vol. 6 is a nine-track project featuring verses from Lil Tecca, Sofaygo, and DC2DRILL & Draft Day, who are both signed to Lil Yachty’s Concrete Boys label.

Back in June of 2021, Lil Yachty shared “Love Music.” The laid-back single was his first release following his highly praised Michigan Boy Boat mixtape .

In other news for the mogul, Yachty has been working on a new series for HBO Max based on the card game ‘UNO’, releasing his cryptocurrency “YachtyCoin,” partnering with Reese’s Puffs Cereal, and promoting his new unisex nail-paint line Crete.

Rapper Miles Parks McCollum - better known by his stage name, Lil Yachty - was born in Mableton, Ga., on Aug. 23, 1997. He first gained fame in August 2015 with the release of his singles "One Night" and "Minnesota." That fall, he dropped out of Alabama State University to pursue his musical career, which saw him release his debut mixtape "Lil Boat" in March 2016. On June 10 of that year, Lil Yachty announced that he had signed a joint venture record deal with Quality Control Music, Capitol Records and Motown Records. His debut studio album, "Teenage Emotions," came out on May 26, 2017. His follow-up album, "Lil Boat 2," was released on March 9, 2018. Lil Yachty described his musical style as "bubblegram trap" for his sampling sounds that range from "Mario Bros." audio and the theme from long-running animated series "Rugrats" to the startup sound of a Nintendo GameCube video-game console. Outside of music, he debuted as a model for Kanye West's Yeezy Season 3 fashion line at New York's Madison Square Garden in February 2016.

EXCLUSIVE :  The Avenue has acquired North American rights to  The System , a newly announced film starring  Tyrese Gibson ( Fast & Furious franchise), Terrence Howard ( Crash ), Jeremy Piven ( Entourage ), and Lil Yachty ( Long Shot ).

The action-thriller picked up by Highland Film Group’s domestic distribution arm centers on a former marine (Gibson) who is recruited by authorities to go undercover in a notoriously dangerous prison, following a drug bust. After discovering an underground fight ring, he has to fight to stay alive, and to take down the corrupt system.

Dallas Jackson (Netflix’s Thriller ) wrote and directed the film, which was shot in Jackson, Mississippi.

Gibson produced it with Bryan Lord ( Willy’s Wonderland ), Petr Jakl ( Best Sellers ) and Joe Di Maoi. The project’s EPs are Martin J. Barab, Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Grady Craig and Highland Film Group’s Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier, JJ Caruth and Caleb Ward.

Gibson is an actor and musician best known for his turn as Roman in Universal’s Fast & Furious franchise, and as Tech Sergeant Epps in Paramount and DreamWorks’ Transformers films. He will next be seen in Columbia Pictures’ Morbius . Additional credits include Columbia Pictures’ Baby Boy and the Fox series, Star . He is represented by Jim Osborne and Kris Heller at APA.

Howard is an Oscar and Golden Globe nominee who was most recently seen in Relativity Media’s Triumph , and starred in six seasons of Fox’s Empire , alongside three-time Emmy nominee Taraji P. Henson. On the film side, he’s also known for turns in Hustle & Flow , St. Vincent , Lee Daniels’ The Butler , Red Tails , Crash and more. Additional TV credits include Fox’s Wayward Pines and Law & Order: LA . He is repped by Mira Pak Howard at Universal Bridges.

Piven won three Emmy awards and two Golden Globe awards for his starring role as Ari Gold in HBO’s Entourage , and is also known on the TV side for his turn in PBS drama, Mr. Selfridge . The actor’s film credits include Grosse Pointe Blank , Black Hawk Down , The Kingdom , Heat , Old School , RocknRolla , Smokin’ Aces and Runaway Jury . Lil Yachty and Mattel Are Making a Movie Out of Uno, the Card Game

Back in 2013, when news broke of a competitive Uno game show that never fully came to fruition, Vulture declared, “Think of it this way: At least it’s not an Uno movie.” Eight years later, our words have finally caught up to us. Per The Hollywood Reporter , Mattel and Lil Yachty are developing a film adaptation of Uno, the card game. Rapper Yachty is producing the movie alongside Mattel Films, and also likely to star. In THR ’s words, it’s “an action heist comedy, set in the underground hip hop world of Atlanta.” No word yet on how Uno plays into the whole thing: Does it start with a high-stakes game of Uno gone wrong? Are the characters Uno cards themselves? Yachty said in a statement, “I played UNO as a kid and still do today, so to spin that into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene I came out of is really special. It hits close to home for me.” You might want to hold onto that skip card, just in case.

Uno movie will turn the card game into a hip hop set heist comedy.

Mattel Films is reportedly eyeing rapper Lil Yatchy to star in a live-action hip hop heist comedy film based on the iconic Uno card game.

Mattel Films is partnering with rapper Lil Yachty to turn the Uno card game into a hip hop set heist comedy film. Hailed as one of the biggest toy selling brands in history, Mattel had a major impact on kids in the ‘90s with the acquisition of Uno, American Girls dolls, and Matchbox cars. Best known for his hit songs Broccoli and iSpy , Grammy-nominated Lil Yachty appeared, as himself, in the 2019 comedy film Long Shot .

Over the past few years, Mattel has announced several endeavors to produce films and television series based on its iconic toys. These include the View-Master , a live-action American Girl Doll film, and a horror movie centered on the Magic 8 Ball. Recently, Mattel and Propagate announced they were joining forces to adapt Uno into an unscripted reality game show . Now, it appears the titular card game is making its way to the big screen with a unique premise.

Per The Wrap , Mattel films is eyeing Lil Yachty for the leading role in an action heist comedy based on the Uno card game. Penned by Marcy Kelly, the film centers on the underground hip hop world of Atlanta. Speaking of his excitement to be attached to the project, Lil Yachty spoke on the staple card game and stated, “ I played Uno as a kid and still do today, so to spin that into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene I came out of is really special. It hits close to home for me .”

Helmed by Robbie Brenner and Kevin McKeon, the untitled comedy heist film has yet to round out the rest of the cast list. Nodding to the musical talents of Lil Yachty and the longevity of the Uno card game, Brenner said the creative team is looking forward to the opportunity “ to transform the classic Uno game into a comedic action-adventure .” Of course, films tapping into the heist movie genre , such as Locked Down , Ocean’s Eight , and Tower Heist , must consist of the ingredients of action-adventure, crime, and comedy. Now, with Uno reportedly being added into the mix, the film starring Lil Yachty will add an unparalleled twist to the genre.

Indeed, Uno has come a long way since its conception by a barbershop owner in 1971. This year, Uno will celebrate its 50th anniversary, which could be an ideal time to release the Mattel film based on the Uno game. Considered one of the most recognized card games of all time, Uno is currently available in more than 80 countries. Therefore, a hip hop comedy heist film from Mattel centered on the bold colored card game of Uno could reach a large audience.

Lil Yachty-Produced 'Uno' Heist Movie Set in Atlanta Hip-Hop Scene Is Going in a Different Direction

The "Poland" artist previously said the ATL-set film "hits close to home for me." Mattel is developing a total of 45 features based on its toys and games.

The Barbie purveyors at Mattel Films appear to be reshuffling the deck with their feature based on the card game Uno .

According to Alex Barasch of the New Yorker , Marcy Kelly—described as "Mattel’s de-facto screenwriter and punch-up artist"—set her first draft "in Atlanta's hip-hop scene."

If that sounds familiar, in early 2021 Lil Yachty was linked to an Uno movie reported to revolve around ATL rap and a heist. The "Poland" artist was set to produce "with an eye to star," the Hollywood Reporter shared at the time. Yachty went so far as to issue a statement saying that turning the game he loves "into a movie based on the Atlanta hip-hop scene I came out of is really special. It hits close to home for me.”

This month's New Yorker piece says the Uno "script [Kelly] emerged with wasn’t quite what Mattel had had in mind." After her "'fuck'-heavy" draft was flagged by an executive, Kelly returned with a revised version featuring "one, well-placed, PG-13 'fuck.'" (Movies are automatically elevated to an R-rating if the word is used more than once.)

Evidently Mattel could not find a way in on the plot in question. And while a "one-day writers’ room took another run at a concept," it's unclear what's next for Uno , or if Lil Yachty is still attached.

Mattel has given considerable creative freedom to the writers working on its 45 films currently in development. One of which is a Barney film starring Daniel Kaluuya , which will be geared towards adults in "A24-type" fashion, exploring "some of the trials and tribulations of being 30-something" and growing up with the purple dinosaur.

Under CEO Ynon Kreiz, Mattel has addressed slumping sales by using its seemingly infinite catalog for the big screen. The recently-formed Mattel Films presented an intriguing pitch: actors, directors, and writers are allowed to play with any of the IP, as long as a studio is willing to finance the movie.

Aside from Kaluuya, Vin Diesel ( Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots ), Tom Hanks ( Major Matt Mason ), and J.J. Abrams are among the notable names attached to Mattel projects in the works. Even though Mattel is allowing these people to play in the sandbox, there is still a bit of parental oversight, as Greta Gerwig found out while making Barbie . Mattel and Warner Bros. wanted a look at the initial script she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach, but Gerwig declined.

Gerwig and Baumbach's agent Jeremy Barber, who is close with Mattel Films head Robbie Brenner, was baffled by the request. "Are you crazy?” Barber told Brenner. “You should’ve come into this office and  thanked  me when Greta and Noah showed up to write a fucking Barbie movie!”

Gerwig received the green light to move forward with Barbie , along with a $100 million budget, after presenting "executives with a poem in the style of the Apostles’ Creed."

Lil Yachty's Concrete Boys Unleashes Their Debut Album, 'It's Us, Vol. 1'

Lil Yachty  continues to make waves.

After announcing the launch of his Concrete Rekordz label , the ATL rapper returned with the imprint’s first full-length project,  It’s Us, Vol. 1  — a compilation album from his newly formed hip-hop collective, Concrete Boys. The effort was confirmed back in March, when Yachty unleashed the album’s first official single, “Family Business,” along with its video directed by Little Miles and AMD Visuals.

It’s Us, Vol. 1 highlights the label’s exciting roster of up-and-coming talent : Karrahbooo, Camo!, Dc2trill, and Draft Day, who were collectively introduced during the North American leg of Yachty’s The Field Trip Tour. The group’s first track, “MO JAMS,” arrived in December of 2023 and has since garnered more than 2 million views on the label’s YouTube channel. 

Yachty spoke about the collective in a recent interview with  Uproxx , explaining his overall vision for his Concrete Rekordz label, which is a joint venture with Quality Control Music/HYBE.

“These are my friends. So it wasn’t like I was looking high and low for talent,” he told the outlet. “These were friends that I’ve made along the way. The most important thing to me is my friendships — and trying to bring everyone up to a level of success so they can provide for their families is the goal. Plus, I’ve always just loved the idea of groups and crews.”

Yachty said he expected his artists to make their mark within the next 12 months and reach “mogul” status within the next five years.

“That’s more than enough time,” he continued. “You could say one year from now. But five or 10 years from now? That’s much more time than any artist needs to become successful. I want to make sure I say that. With today’s time, and internet [platforms], six months is all you need. But in five years, I plan to have four moguls, doing their own things, starting their own labels.”

Sometimes the best part about a buzzy and mysterious new movie is not knowing what you’re getting yourself into. Could there be a freak decapitation within the first act of the movie? Maybe! You never know.

With Alex Garland’s Civil War , the intensive military imagery might be alarming, but there is more to the story than the excessive gun use. The film takes place in a near-future America where a group of journalists race to Washington D.C. amid a violent conflict taking place on American soil. Here is a brief synopsis:

From filmmaker Alex Garland comes a journey across a dystopian future America, following a team of military-embedded journalists as they race against time to reach DC before rebel factions descend upon the White House.

While the film is shrouded in mystery, Garland hopes the film sparks conversation. “My hope is that I make something which is compelling and engaging, but the product of that is some kind of conversation,” he recently told IndieWire . Garland added, “The film is trying to function a bit like the reporters in the story, so it’s just showing something within a window of time.”

A24’s Civil War stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Nick Offerman. The movie hist theaters on April 12.

The Kid LAROI quietly unveiled the new track “Hatred.” A YouTube and Soundcloud exclusive, LAROI enlisted the Concrete commander Lil Yachty to contribute to the cut – marking the pairing’s first-ever collaborative offering.

“I used to buy you stilettos and Birkins / I don’t know why ’cause you wouldn’t be here if I was hurtin’ / I tried to erase you out my mind, all things was fine ’til I closed the curtain / I used to look at you like a God knowin’ damn well you an average person,” Yachty kicks off his verse.

Lil Yachty has gone from working at McDonald’s as a teenager in Atlanta to starring in commercials for the iconic Golden Arches brand.

Lil Boat adds to his list of lucrative partnerships while teaming up with McDonald’s Canada on Tuesday (April 2) for the launch of their Remix Menu.

“Going from working at a McDonald’s in Atlanta to collaborating on the ‘Remix Menu Song’ with McDonald’s Canada is a wild full circle moment that brought back memories and is such a reminder that anything in life can happen,” Boat said in a statement about the partnership.

From now until April 29, participating McDonald’s locations across Canada will have the new Remix Menu available to customers. Some of the items include wild combinations such as the Chicken Cheeseburger, Surf ‘N Turf Burger, Sweet Chilli Junior Chicken and the tasty Apple Pie McFlurry.

“We hope these new takes on the McDonald’s Menu Song, brought to life by Lil Yachty and Mike Clay, will evoke the excitement Canadians felt for McDonald’s the first time they heard the song, and look forward to introducing it to a new generation of fans,” said McDonald’s chief marketing officer Alyssa Buetikofer.

Vampire Weekend Added to Coachella 2024 Lineup as Fest Drops Set Times

Vampire Weekend , welcome back to Coachella !

On Tuesday, the music festival unveiled the official set times for Weekend One, which includes the surprise addition of Vampire Weekend to the lineup for Saturday.

The group, which dropped their album Only God Was Above Us on Friday, will perform on the Outdoor Theatre stage on Saturday at 5 p.m, marking the group’s return to the festival after more than a decade. The group has performed at Coachella in 2008, 2010, and 2013.

The festival performance follows the group’s opening tour show in Austin on Monday. They’ll return to Southern California for shows in San Diego and at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl in June.

Missing from the set times are EDM act Magnetic Man, whose member Benga had Visa issues , and Tyla, who announced she’d be skipping Coachella and her tour due to an injury.

Latin acts will be well-represented on the main stage: Young Miko will perform at 4:45 p.m. and Peso Pluma at 9:05 p.m. on Friday, Santa Fe Klan on Saturday, and Sunday will see three acts: Brazilian star Ludmilla at 2:50 p.m., Carin León at 5:25 p.m., and J Balvin with his set at 8:20 p.m.

Other performers scheduled to play at the festival include Ateez, Peggy Gou, Jungle, Bleachers, Jon Batiste, Jhené Aiko, the Rose, Coi Leray, Brittany Howard, Deftones, Everything Always, Jungle, Dom Dolla, Le Sserafim, Kevin Abstract, Blcst, and Lil Yachty.
