To say we were pampered is the understatement of the year (although, considering it’s only January, fingers crossed there’s more pampering ahead)! We had the opportunity to sail MSC Meraviglia out of New York earlier this month; we were excited to check out the new-to-us cruise line. But what we didn’t expect: an upgrade to MSC’s exclusive Yacht Club!

What is the Yacht Club?

The Yacht Club is MSC’s “ship within a ship” concept that promises both privacy and exclusivity. The experience includes amenities most could only dream about: white-glove butler service, 24×7 concierge, an exclusive restaurant on the ship and on MSC’s private island, Ocean Cay, unlimited drinks anywhere on the ship, a private pool, hot tub, lounge deck, and so much more.

Upgrade Offer

In early December, just over a month from our sailing date, we received an email inviting us to bid on an upgrade . We were already in a balcony cabin, so it seemed odd bidding on an interior cabin – but that’s just what we did! We maxed out our bid on an interior Yacht Club stateroom in hopes that the upgrade fairies would grant our wish.

On December 13, 2023, that’s exactly what happened!

Yacht Club Check-In

Fast-forward a month to January 9, 2024 when we checked in to board MSC Meraviglia. Again, to say this check-in process was different would be a huge understatement. Unlike your typical check-in with long queues, growling stomachs, and throngs of people, we waited in our own lounge with champagne and canapés away from the crowds. We made sure to document the entire experience so that we could share it with you:

First Impressions

So what is it like to sail on a ship within a ship? Is the Butler actually a real person, or is it just a glorified room steward? And what exactly is a canapé? The first 24 hours on board was a whirlwind. There were so many new experiences – and so much food! Considering this was our first-ever MSC cruise, it was a GREAT first impression! Setting a Standard to make sure your equiptment will be reliable is at the forefront of our priorities.

The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers is a standard carried on all of our trailers. What they focus on is making sure a trailer meets the all the necessary basic safety guidelines. This ensures proper Lighting, Reflective tape, Running gear, and Documentation. The NATM ensures that all trailers built meet the Federal Motor Safety Standards.

Born in Sweden, the son of a produce seller, Niklas Ekstedt began his strong connection with nature and the Earth’s flavors at a young age. The International Council Of Yacht Clubs

The International Council of Yacht Clubs is an association of the world’s leading yacht clubs. With events and opportunities for club members, leadership and professional staff, the Council exists to promote collaboration among these clubs so each can be empowered to improve their home organization while positively contributing to yachting worldwide.

The Council is made up of 44 Member Clubs from 22 nations, each of whom share a similar character, yachting activity, size, range of member services and commitment to the sport of yachting. We are proud to have Council representation in nearly every major sailing port in the world.

Working Together

Several times a year, members of Member Clubs come together to discuss issues facing their club, exchange ideas, share best practices and learn from one another. The Council hosts a biennial World Forum as well as annual Regional Conferences, providing our members with multiple opportunities to collaborate.

Sharing Experiences

J/24 is for Everyone, Anytime, Everywhere…

Age 12 to 80, no matter what your style: racing, daysailing or cruising. Her flared topsides make her dry on deck. Her “weekender” cabin makes it possible to get warm on cold days and she can be sailed easily by one person with only the mainsail.

While some of the world’s best sailors have the latest version J/24, a well-prepared 1977 model, built to the same shape and weight with rigid end-grained balsa core construction can still win the class world championship even after 30,000+ miles of trailering. That’s “One Design”.
