Super fun and freaky experience in dark side.

First of all. The clowns are something else. Super freaky!! There’s a bonfire, a train ride, haunted woods and a corn field maze while you’re being chased and jumped out at by killer scarecrows. 6 different awesome attractions in one huge smorgasbord of horror. Worth every penny, I 100% recommend this if you’re a thrill seeker. Also, check out the zombie paintball. I’ve done that at a few different places and this one was by far the most fun! This place is huge! Long lines but well worth the wait. It's indoor theme is mostly outdoor. Scares aplenty but lack of fine details at times and spacing was a bit off, all in all a great show and I recommend

Photo of Evan P.

The Darkside Haunted Adventure at Glacier Rock Farms is an awesome hauted house, and has the makings as of a must-see seasonal attraction to keep coming back to. Highlighting both Halloween and the fall season, the past couple years have seen Darkside expand from simple walk-through trail through the woods and corn to having several to a haunted tractor ride, a live zombie paintball shooter ride, and a shop with fall time snacks and produce, and even a haunted train! Literally a home-grown haunted farm atmosphere, The Darkside is an immersive, entertaining, family friendly Halloween experience that consistently gets voted for Wisconsin's Scariest Haunts. With the exponential growth Darkside has seen over the years brings some higher prices, but they offer early bird specials, season passes, combo deals, or a terror treatment tickets to choose from. They usually run every Friday and Saturday through October.

Photo of Gina B.

The Darkside Haunted attraction was very unique. Takes you on a tour of a haunted mine where people go in and never come out. Haunted ride through the woods on a tractor but you better look out for the trains! I got a deal on Living Social and it was a great deal. Two admissions, two pretzels w/ cheese and two drinks for $22. That was a deal. The staff tried very hard to scare you and make the experience fun. Had some great pyrotechnics too. FIRE! Good place, good scenery, good idea. Dress for the weather, you are outside for a good portion of it. A bit out of the way for some of us but it was worth checking out.

9 of Wisconsin’s Best Haunted Houses, Forests and More

These ain’t your run-of-the-mill haunted houses. Terrifyingly imaginative and utterly spine-chilling, the following mysterious homes, forests, bed and breakfasts and more are not for the faint of heart. (In fact, I suggest calling ahead of time to inquire about age restrictions!)

  • Forest of Freaks (Janesville) Herein lies Wisconsin’s longest and scariest outdoor haunted forest—Forest of Freaks in Janesville! Choose your own path at this Southern Wisconsin scare-fest: There’s Shoot-A-Freak, Clown House, Hillbilly Haven, Haunted Maze, Werewolves Den, Witches Hollow and so much more.
  • Halls of Terror (Prairie du Chien) Halls of Terror is located on the legendary St. Feriole Island in an old warehouse where ghosts lurk around every corner. Located in the Cedar Building, this southwestern haunted destination will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
  • The Hill Has Eyes (Milwaukee) Oh, so you’re the unshakeable, unintimidated type? If that’s so, you clearly haven’t made your way through The Hill Has Eyes in Milwaukee. Test your valor on a pair of haunted trails and a zombie-infested thrill ride. If you make it through all that, dodge the mutant hillbillies in Failed Escape and tread lightly through Hunger Hollow. And if you’re still sane and surviving, ride the Scare Lift up The Hill—just, whatever you do, don’t look down. Celebrate your bravery afterward with snacks, refreshments and live music near the bonfire and beer tent.
  • The House on the Rock – The Dark Side (Spring Green) The House on the Rock in Spring Green is already an eccentric destination in Wisconsin. But have you wondered what it might be like to tour the house after dark? When you visit The House on the Rock – The Dark Side, you’ll stroll down the walkway of the macabre and see the carousel in a whole new light, (which, as it turns out, isn’t very much light at all…). You will travel through the Devil’s throat and wander through the mysterious maze before escaping to be greeted by Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The Dark Side Haunted Adventure is our favorite and is nationally recognized for the last three years.

What about the Wisconsin Feargrounds in Waukesha? A nationally recognized haunt with 55,000 square feet of terror and three attraction, WFG is a must see!!!!!!!!!

That haunted house sucks lol.

October 24, 25, 29, 30, 31 We have a Haunted Mill set in the historic Iola Mill @ 300 North Main Street, Iola, WI 54945 This is a fundraiser for our junior class.

Fun! We love Iola. Thanks for sharing, Jill!

New haunted house well sort of, only been around for a few years. Closed for 2015 but will be open with new location and sites 2016! Keep us in mind we are in Wausua WI.

Awesome! Thanks for letting us know, Aleta.

What about Misery Haunted House? Abandoned Haunted Complex? Green Bay Fear? Panic Chambers? The Morgue? idk... seems biased.

There's a lot of great ones across the state...Thank you for sharing a few of your favorites!

Panic Chambers Hotel Should Defiantly Be On There!

Don't forget about The Insanitorium in New Glarus!

http://www.theinsanitorium.com/

Thanks for the suggestion!

We had a unique and very unusual experience while staying at the "Inn of the Pine Terrace" Bed and Breakfast in Oconomowoc. History has claimed it is haunted and this non-believer became a believer after spending a night there.

We had a similar experience over the Labor Day weekend 15 years ago. Strange noises, tapping on walls, lights flickering, toilets flushing and a strange vision my wife had of the owner's wife dying! We asked the cleaning staff if they ever heard or seen anything strange? Their replay after looking at each other, we don't go to the 3rd floor by ourselves! Now I know why the innkeeper asked to run my credit card before our stay, most guests leave in fear and never last the night.

Where is the Splatter house on this list

I heard panic chambers is beyond scary. And the morgue!

We are a SCREAM PARK !  6 haunts in one location and all for only $30 !

Our family farm was established in 1849 by an Irish settler name Charlie Murphy. He soon realized the fate that eventually befalls all the owners of this farm; for Charlie and his family disappeared, as do all the families who have lived here since. Come take a tour of our farm and discover the fate of all the families who came before. Can you survive longer than they did?

The Descent

Shortly after acquiring the property Charlie started to notice cows disappearing on the west side of the farm. As he was searching for the cause of the disappearances he fell down a hole. Upon further inspection he realized what he had found was the remnants of an old mine. He spent days fumbling through the darkness of the tunnels.  After a day had passed his family found the hole Charlie had fell down and went in after him. They started calling his name and he replied back, but they more they searched the more confused and lost they became. Neither Charlie nor his family was ever heard from again.

Twilight Nightmare

The longest family to survive the farm to date is the Wilton family. James Wilton bought this farm in 1870 after it had been abandoned for 20 years. They were lumberjacks and wanted the farm only for its trees. They built a sawmill and started clearing right away. After a number of years tragedy befell when James was killed in the sawmill because a pile of logs fell on him. After that the family left the sawmill and started producing moonshine for the locals. They soon became a large business, producing lots of varieties of moonshine. As they started to play with the ingredients they happened upon a very potent formula. A formula that caused vibrant hallucinations and they started to “see” the evil things that you only dream about. After a couple weeks they couldn’t take the visions any longer and disappeared into the darkness of the forest.

Backwoods Revenge

This is the story of Grandma Townsend and her children. Grandma Townsend acquired the farm from the state to run an orphanage for troubled children. The children were sent to the country to be kept away from the public, so they were required to stay on the farm at all times. As a way to pass the time they started to build things in the Pine Forest. One day as they were looking for a place to build a cabin they came upon barrels that had been left by the state. As they started to inspect the barrels one of them burst, spraying the youths with an unknown substance. Soon after, the children started to change and mutate into unnatural things. Grandma Townsend feared what people might think of the children she loved so she kept them quarantined in the forest. Three years later Grandma Townsend died and the children were left by themselves and no one knew of their existence. They continued to live in the pine forest always building and living in secret.

Mephistopheles Lair

In this part of the farm, just east of one of the ponds, is where everyone knows the evil spirits roam at night. No one really knows why these lost souls inhabit this area of the farm. But on many a night as the fog begins to roll off the pond you can hear the tortured sounds.

Schizophrenia

In 1953 Alexander and Nicholas Davis returned from the war and purchased the farm to settle down and become farmers. The next spring they planted corn as far as the eye could see. Halfway through the season they discovered that something was eating their corn. They set out traps for normal pest such as deer and raccoons, but every morning when they checked the traps they found that they had all been destroyed. They both realized that they were dealing with something more serious. After weeks of losing more and more corn they decided to set a large trap and deal with this once and for all. They cut large paths into the corn that all led to their trap in the middle. The next morning they came out to find a creature like no other; they constructed a large cage on the edge of their field and imprisoned the creature there. Later that week, as they were tending their field they felt as if something was watching them as they worked, but could see nothing. The two men vanished before their corn could ever be harvested that year.

Foxglove Nursery

In 1964 Foxglove Nurseries Inc. purchased the farm at auction to create a grow farm for multiple greenhouses to supply their stores. After a couple successful seasons they decided to setup a greenhouse to develop hybrid species. What was created in that greenhouse, no one really knows, because before they could announce any of their creations there was some kind of chemical spill and the whole farm had to be evacuated. Official reports state that all of the employees made it out alive, but we have unearthed documents that reveal there were several botanists that never made it out of the greenhouses.
