WING 100: 100m supersized sailing yacht concept unveiled by Royal Huisman
Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman has revealed a 100 metre "supersized sailing yacht" concept named the WING 100 that takes its name from its advanced wing mast rig.
Its creators, Royal Huisman, Dykstra Naval Architects and Mark Whiteley Design , said the concept marks the arrival of a new megayacht category as a true 100m+ sailing yacht that doesn't need to rely on the power of a motor.
The WING 100's innovative rig by Rondal is comprised of two freestanding masts that rotate at the touch of a button with airfoils integrated with the sails. The shape of the airfoil can be remotely adjusted to maximise or reduce power, while the wing masts require no standing rigging which keeps the decks clutter-free and available for guest use.
The concept is billed as the world's most innovative sailing yacht concept and has been conceived with a visionary owner in mind. Its design appeals to both sailing yacht owners and motor yacht owners looking for a crossover that minimises their environmental footprint without sacrificing comfort and amenities associated with a large motor yacht. As well as her rig, breakthrough technologies continue throughout to create a fully sustainable and energy-efficient vessel that is able to explore the further corners of the planet.
“The emergence of sailing yachts on this scale, with the level of energy efficiency and eco-responsibility offered by WING 100, would have been unthinkable just a decade ago,” said Royal Huisman CEO Jan Timmerman. “The team is incredibly excited to be at the forefront of this conceptual revolution. We look forward to applying our renowned innovation and engineering skills to the realisation of this highly ambitious project – creating the fourth and largest Royal Huisman build yet in the global top 10 of supersized sailing yachts.”
While the WING 100 remains a conceptual design, if built it would rank among the world's largest sailing yachts alongside other Royal Huisman builds including Athena and Sea Eagle II . Currently underway at the shipyard is an 85 metre sloop, which is set to be the world's largest single-masted sailing yacht .

Traditions must be challenged periodically and the 100 meter superyacht Sovereign, from Gray Design has the daring and wit to be a serious contender. Designed for kings, queens and monarchs, the yacht Sovereign’s strict lines and well-appointed detailing place it in a class where only the best is tolerated.
100m Motor yacht Sovereign by Gray Design
Maintaining only three decks over the entire length of the motor yacht Sovereign gives her an extremely low profile by current standards and the echoes of automotive design are deafening. Taking design cues from exclusive limousines and borrowing the style of chauffeur driven carriages give proportions that are both stately and sophisticated while at the same time having an athletic stance that hints at the rapid transitions she makes between marinas.
Clean Energy
The features list onboard superyacht Sovereign is long and several details cannot go unnoticed at first glance. The wind turbine in the mast coupled with the solar panels covering the roof of the yacht supply clean energy for lighting systems and reserve power supplies that can be topped up whenever the sun shines or the wind blows. The retractable cover at the bow of the yacht keeps the area cool and can be raised to form a sun shade over the spa pool on a hot day. At the aft end is the infinity pool which can keep water circulating around the reinforced glass helicopter pad for an invigorating swim. Thread lighting around the edges of the pool give a pleasant nighttime illumination to the experience and these lighting features continue along the length of the yacht and past the peak of the pilot house to give a signature illumination when moored offshore. Accommodations feature an excessive owners suite on the top deck which stretch from the aft owners deck through to the bow owners deck including the atrium located under the glasshouse beneath the pilothouse. In addition there are 10 guest suites with provisions including a nightclub, cinema, gym and library.

Classy Club
The beach club on the lower deck of M/Y Sovereign maintains the rich detailing of the yacht whose centerpiece is the skylight that looks up through the floor of the helipad. Sculptures inspired by the yacht itself decorate this space and rich fabrics and crystal light fittings continue the theme of elegance and class. It is also equipped with a full wet bar and has bathing platforms on each side that can be folded down for an extremely spacious relaxation area near the water. Through the doors you will find a wet garage where the tender boats are stored and dispatched from within the hull.

Custom Limo
In true Gray Design style, the Sovereign yacht comes with the optional custom built limousine that parks in the garage alongside the seaborne tenders. This can be lifted onto land using the on-board cranes whenever an excursion in style is needed around the port area. Powering this great vessel are three MTU Engines and top speeds are estimated at 30 knots

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital
There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.
How to find the right boat?
There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.
Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.
This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.
Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such option offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).
If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.
Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.
How to buy tickets?
Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.
“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!” wrote (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.
Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.
Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.
Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.
Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as this offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.
This website (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other website sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.
Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.
“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.
There are two main boarding piers in the city center: Hotel Ukraine and Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.
Where to sit onboard?
Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.
The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.
Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.
There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era
With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.
By Shivani Gonzalez
Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.
This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”
At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.
With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.
“Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”
This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).
Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.
“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”
This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)
For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.
From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.
“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”
Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.
On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.
“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”
And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”
An earlier version of this article misquoted Fraser Olender, the chief stew of “Below Deck.” He said, “I also feel like Kerry this season. ... Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” not “I feel like Kerry this season, as opposed to Lee, has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him.”

EU slaps sanctions on Russian justice officials blamed for jailing Alexei Navalny
- Show more sharing options

The European Union on Friday imposed sanctions on the Russian justice and prison officials responsible for imprisoning opposition leader Alexei Navalny before his death last month.
“Alexei Navalny’s slow killing by the Kremlin regime is a stark reminder of its utter disregard for human life,” EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said in a statement announcing the move.
Borrell said the sanctions, which target 33 officials and two prisons and involve asset freezes and travel bans, “demonstrate our determination to hold Russia’s political leadership and authorities to account for the continuing violation of the human rights in Russia.”
Navalny, the most persistent foe of President Vladimir Putin , was serving a 19-year sentence when he died. He had been behind bars since January 2021 after returning to Russia from Germany where he had been recovering from nerve-agent poisoning that he blamed on the Kremlin.
The cause of his Feb. 16 death has been described by officials only as due to natural causes.
The EU said that its measures would hit the IK-6 corrective colony and IK-3 maximum security corrective colony, including the official in charge Vadim Kalinin, where Navalny had been held before his death.
“Both colonies are known for exerting physical and psychological pressure, full isolation, torture and violence on prisoners. In both places Mr. Navalny suffered abuses, including through repeated solitary confinement in a punishment cell and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, leading to the severe deterioration of his health,” it said.
Justice officials targeted by the EU measures include Andrey Suvorov, who last year sentenced Navalny to 19 years in a special regime colony, and Kirill Nikiforov, who rejected Navalny’s lawsuit against IK-6 to appeal his transfer to a punishment cell for 12 days. It’s unclear whether the officials traveled to or through EU countries or had significant assets in Europe.
