We make big even bigger.

Below deck the CRUISER 37 seems bigger than you would expect it from a sailing yacht of this size. 

Living requires space. And good ideas.

Our designers spend thousands upon thousands of hours planning, developing and tweaking. At the end of the day, everything below deck has to be perfect. Every line and every beam of light is therefore checked as many times as it takes to meet our team’s high standards – and yours, because you can configure the saloon according to your wishes. And as for a sense of space, you will feel as if you are on a 40‐foot yacht. Experience it for yourself.

Need some room? The chart table has a handle to pull it out and put it away again whenever you want.

Clever spatial design to meet every need of living on board.

Delightful and light - and not only because of the many windows.

Attention to detail is so typical for BAVARIA – and naturally also in the galley. Every edge, corner and door frame is made of solid wood. This is unique in this class of yacht. Panoramic windows provide natural light and a greater sense of space. There is also a great big double stainless steel sink – and what great pleasure to gather here with family and friends.

Small is a different concept – the cooler holds 147 litres.

Enough room for 6 persons in the big salon.

28 Feet: Bayliner 285 SB Cruising really begins with boats in the 28-foot range. They’re still small enough to be towed or stored on your property, yet big enough to overnight aboard. Bayliner’s 285 pairs a slimmed-down forward berth with a convertible Corian-tabled dinette and makes the midcabin berth an actual stateroom, meaning a real bulkhead and door, not just a curtain. That brings sleeping capacity to six, although in this size range, a couple (and maybe the kids) would truly be most comfortable for a weekend. The same holds true for living amenities, such as freshwater capacity. Cruisers in the 28-foot range offer adequate capacity for short trips, but generally not extended stays. The Bayliner 285 SB will tote 28 gallons of water.

32 Feet: Cobalt 323 Boats in the 32-foot range, like the Cobalt 323, step up to twin engines, but they’re still mostly the familiar gasoline stern-drives, which allow you to navigate shallower waters. Twin engines make for easier docking, which is good, since a 32-footer is beyond reasonable towing size. Additional footage provides real space. Some manufacturers use it to allow a small family to weekend. Cobalt chose to make the ultimate day boat. Its expansive, single-level cockpit — featuring plush wraparound seating and a six-speaker stereo system — is complemented by a couple-friendly double berth, head and minimal galley below. Step aft and you’ve got a large swim platform, perfect for hot summer days. The 32-foot cruiser class offers excellent levels of versatility.

Class Advantage: While actual sleeping capacity isn’t much more than on a 28-footer, a larger cockpit and cabin provide more daytime fun for a larger crew.

37 Feet: Four Winns V375 Cast off in a 37-foot boat, like the Four Winns V375, and you’ll be less subject to rough seas, thanks to 15,000-plus pounds of displacement and a deep-V hull, which smooths the ride. You can still get the familiar stern-drives in this size range, although it is on the cusp of the size for which pod-drives and joystick controls become common. Roominess continues to increase in the 37-foot class. Check out the expansive helm area and the adjacent cockpit in the V375. It is equipped with a refreshment center that includes a sink and a choice of either a refrigerator or ice maker and is housed under a cabana hardtop with full enclosure. The V375’s standard deck plan offers curtained enclosures. Step up to optional bulkheaded staterooms for added privacy.

42 Feet: Regal 42 Sport Coupe This 42-foot Regal and similar cruisers in its class are your entries into the world of “big boats.” Fully enclosed helm decks become the norm, and many are diesel pod-powered boats. Generators and air-conditioners are mandatory, if not standard. Regal’s 42 also offers goodies like an electric sunroof and a walk-through from helm to foredeck. Belowdecks, Regal focuses on generously sized sleeping areas, twin heads, a separate shower stall and plenty of room in the galley. In Boating tests when equipped with twin 300 hp Volvo Penta IPS pods, it achieved a cruising speed of 28.7 mph with excellent 1.36 mpg fuel economy. The trade-off? Long gone are the days of nosing onto a beach. Of course, there’s room to carry a dinghy for that purpose.

45 Feet: Sea Ray 450 Sundancer Set up primarily for entertaining, the 450 Sundancer offers a master stateroom forward in an otherwise open plan that features a media room aft, which can sleep two. No doubt, cruisers in this size category begin incorporating some seriously luxurious characteristics. Take, for instance, the Japanese Shoji doors and solid-wood cabinetry throughout the 450 Sundancer. Occasional guests can draw the curtain and sleep on the convertible queen lounge. And when the party’s over, a couple heading off for the weekend will enjoy the boat’s climate-controlled, three-sided hardtop and its 70-gallon freshwater capacity. Most of all, they’ll find that an open layout like the Sundancer’s makes the boat more livable than one that has been cut up into separate cabins.

Bavaria 37 (2017) 'Jitterbug'

The 37 is quick, responsive, and well-balanced. Impressive. With a fully battened mainsail and 106% genoa, this Bavaria 37 is super fast to tack, and easily sailed short-handed due to the single line reefing system led back to the cockpit. A Garmin autopilot complements the full array of Garmin electronics, including an 8-inch cockpit chart plotter.

Like the other Farr designs in the Bavaria lineup, she carries her beam well aft (12 feet of it) enabling this 37 footer to have the cockpit of a 40 footer and twin helm positions. This provides for excellent visibility when helming on either tack and also gives a clear walkway through to the transom. The Bavaria signature transom lowers to give you the perfect swimming platform at anchor or at the dock. Ideal for your BVI Yacht Charter!

Below decks, there is 6ft 3” of headroom in the saloon, bundles of ventilation and energy-efficient led bulbs, to reduce your battery charging and engine running time. There are 2 cabins, a forward V-Berth with ample storage on the shelves and in 2 closets with clothes hangers provided. The aft cabin has a large bed with a clever design that tucks behind the engine compartment for extra room. Both cabins have portlights for ventilation and fans are installed throughout the yacht.

The galley features 2 sinks with covers to allow more surface space when cooking, a 3-burner stove and a top-loading fridge. There is plenty of storage room throughout the saloon in overhead lockers and drawers tucked into the saloon table.

Did you know Horizon’s charters start and finish at noon? This means we can get you out sailing your first afternoon after your briefings – remember to watch your video briefings to speed up your check out! At the end of your trip, you sail back to Nanny Cay to refuel and debrief before your noon departure. This gives you a full 6 nights/7 days chartering around our beautiful islands, unlike some companies that start at 5pm, meaning you will have to sleepaboard* at the docks, and then finish at 10am, again meaning you will probably have to stay overnight on the docks the night before you leave to fly home.

*If available, a sleep aboard can be added the night before your charter start for a small supplement, boarding your yacht after 5pm.

Our standard charter rates are applicable for charters of 5 days or more up to a maximum of five weeks. For a tailored quote for charter durations outside this range please contact our reservations team who will be pleased to assits.

May we advise that HDW insurance, Cruising Permits and National Parks Permit are payable before departure from the dock in cash or travellers’ cheques, as using a Credit Card will incur a 5% surcharge. Upon return of the vessel, you are required to top off the water and fuel tanks, which you receive full upon boarding the vessel.

BVI Charter Rates shown above are for 6 nights per vessel (min 5 nights except for Christmas and New Year min 7 nights + supplements on selected yachts) with the additional daily rate should you wish to add nights. BVI Charters start and finish at noon. Sleep-aboard (the option of staying on board your yacht at the dock) with the boarding of your vessel available after 5.00 pm, can sometimes be added to the start of your charter at an extra charge of $75.00 per head per night (minimum of $200.00 per night), depending upon yacht availability.

• Hull Damage Waiver Insurance is compulsory for $60.00 (max $600) per day for Monohulls and $70.00 (max $700) per day for Catamarans. Security deposit is $2000 for monohulls and cats 41ft and under, and $5000 for cats 42ft plus. This limits your liability to the security deposit (either $2000 or $5000) per incident relating to the yacht and 3% of hull value per incident if in contravention of the Client Responsibility Agreement or the Charter Contract.
• Skippers  are available from $225.00 per day, Instructors from $275.00 per day and Cooks from $225.00 per day (plus food and gratuity).

• Windsurfing, kayaks, hammock rentals, SCUBA gear or other water sports  are all available at competitive rates.  Click here for more information.

An Environmental levy of $10 per head is payable by all visitors to the BVI on arrival (effective 1st Sept 2017).

Bookings and Cancellations – We require a 50% deposit to confirm the reservation and the balance due of 50% should be received by Horizon Yacht Charters no later than 45 days prior to the charter start date. A full refund less a $200.00 administration fee is given should the reservation be cancelled in writing up to 90 days prior to the charter start date. If the charter is cancelled within 90 days of the charter start date, then a full refund (less $200.00) is made subject to Horizon Yacht Charters reselling the charter space reserved.

First look: SailScow 37 – ocean racing inspired cruiser

The new SailScow 37 has been developed alongside a Vendée Globe racer and looks to bring performance and volume to the cruising market

Product Overview

Much of the drive towards scow bow cruising yachts is driven by top level racing sailors. Armel Tripon, who raced the then radical Sam Manuard-designed IMOCA 60 L’Occitane en Provence in the 2020 Vendée Globe , has lent his name to the SailScow brand that’s working on a range of four designs from 28-42ft.

“The hull I was able to test racing around the globe delighted me,” says Tripon. “I can easily imagine myself cruising on a scow to take full advantage of the sailing performance, the ease of passage through the sea and the incredible comfort at anchor – I can’t wait to try it out.”

The first SailScow model is a 37ft cruiser designed by Gildas Plessis, a strong advocate of this hull shape. It’s primarily of marine ply and epoxy and offers a step change in internal space compared to other yachts of this length. Options include a four cabin layout, with two doubles forward, both with rectangular beds, while aft there’s a further double, plus a twin cabin with bunk beds. Alternatively there’s space for a giant owner’s cabin forward, plus one aft double port and a generous technical and stowage area to starboard.

As with other scow bow derived cruisers there’s a massive amount of space on deck – plenty of room for sun bathing and to stow a tender without deflating it.

The SailScow 40 offers significantly more accommodation space than the SailScow 37, yet light displacement is only 5,600kg. The SailScow 42 is intended as an expedition boat with a protected doghouse and spacious three cabin/three head interior.

All models are offered as either a turn-key finished boat in the Optimum range, or as the Explorer range of ready-to-assemble CNC-cut plywood kits.

WA ferry crew, Coast Guard rescue 6 people, 2 dogs in Rosario Strait

A Washington State Ferries crew on Saturday helped the Coast Guard rescue six people and two dogs from a boat in Rosario Strait.

A 37-foot cabin cruiser called for assistance during “nasty weather” near Decatur Island just before 1 p.m., the Coast Guard station in Bellingham said. A wave over the bow shattered the boat’s front windshield, injuring some of the boaters and causing the vessel to take on water.

The boaters shared their GPS position before their radio shorted out and they lost communications. The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast — a radio message for all boaters in the area — and dispatched vessels and a helicopter.

Before the Coast Guard arrived, the Washington state ferry Samish responded and launched its rescue boat. Four boaters were taken on board the ferry, and the ferry used its size to shield the damaged boat from wind and waves.

A U.S. Coast Guard boat responded and took the two other passengers and their dogs, Buster and Belle, on board. Coast Guard crew members drove the cabin cruiser safely to Anacortes while the Samish shielded it from the wind.

Once on shore, the Anacortes Fire Department took the boaters to EMS to be checked for any injuries.

“The quick response and excellent seamanship exhibited by Washington State Ferries highlights the incredible partnerships we have in the Puget Sound,” Lt. Ryan Sexton, a command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound, said in a statement. “The mariner’s use of a VHF radio for their distress call was critical to our ability to quickly locate them and coordinate an effective response.”
