Old Port of Saint-Tropez - French Riviera - South of France - Berths for Stopovers and Charters – Limited Seasonal and Long-term Rental - No Leaseholds - Special Event Berths

Berth Description

With a capacity for 734 berths and moorings divided between two basins on an area of 9 hectares in the heart of the village, the PORT OF SAINT TROPEZ is a main port of call in the Mediterranean for the rich and famous. Innovation and top quality services have made it one of the most famous marinas in the world.

Not only is the PORT OF SAINT TROPEZ a valued meeting place for yachting enthusiasts, Sailing Regattas and an unrivalled centre of entertainment, it is also famous for events, a privileged destination for cruise ships and a driving force for the town’s economy. And yet despite Saint-Tropez’ international status, the harbour has managed to maintain its social and cultural diversity.

Forty people are engaged to welcome clients, be they afloat or ashore. They are there to organise the moorings, ensure the safety of people and property, to manage the financial, legal and administrative side, to keep the harbour clean and protect the environment, and to maintain the facilities and equipment.

The PORT OF SAINT-TROPEZ is a public port administered by the City. The rates of the port and the allocation of long-term berths are voted in Municipal Council. Therefore, it is not an easy task to find a permanent mooring.

About Port de Saint Tropez

The Port de Saint Tropez marina, with its range of innovative services, is one of the most famous harbors in the world. The marina is designed for 734 berths, located on an area of 9 hectares - in two basins divided by the Epi promenade. Located on the south coast of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, this marina is central to the coastal village, known throughout the world and is one of the best options for booking a yacht parking in the French Riviera. The once modest marina for small fishing boats today has become one of the most modern and famous gathering places for yachtsmen from around the world.

Port de Saint Tropez yacht parking can offer a range of services, including:

  • Summing up electricity;
  • Toilet, shower;
  • A restaurant;
  • Self-service laundry;
  • Coast security;
  • Pumping wastewater;
  • Tanks for waste oil.

In high season, car traffic along the coastal track can be extremely intense. Hotels, like marinas in the port, are booked in advance. Tipping is a must, especially if you want to return. On both sides of the marina are numerous beaches, the most famous of which is Pampelonne, which houses the Club 55 and Tahiti Beach beach restaurants. If you prefer to avoid crowds of vacationers, it is worth exploring other options, including - Plages La Glaye, La Ponche and de la Fontarette.

Port de Saint Tropez today is one of the symbols of French luxury, while the port of Saint-Tropez retains the charm of past years.

If you want to try the signature flavors of port, we recommend the Le Girelier restaurant (Quai Jean Jaures), where you can try dishes made from fresh catch. If you want to try more exotic cuisine, head to Quai de l'Epi Lane, where you will find the excellent Indian restaurant Gandhi. And, of course, if you just want to make yourself an ice break in the middle of summer, try the delicious ice cream in Barbarac (rue du Général Allard).

Port de Saint Tropez Pier is an ideal berth booking option for sailors who want to receive exclusive service and maximum comfort. Luxury motor yachts and sailboats feel at home here. Be sure to pay attention to the Societe Nautique et Sportive de Saint-Tropez yacht club, which has been leading its history since 1899 - the largest number of lovers of sea travel gather here at the end of September for the legendary regatta Les Voiles de Saint Tropez.

The fame of St Tropez came after the actress Brigitte Bardot starred in the movie "And God Created Woman" (1956). The town is named after a Roman soldier killed for his Christian faith. The well-preserved body of the soldier floated ashore and pilgrims came to pay homage to his burial site, given the name of Saint Tropez.

Saint-Tropez cruise terminal

Saint-Tropez is a tender port, which means cruise ships anchor in St Tropez Bay and their passengers are transported to Port Grimaud (yacht marinas) via the ship's tender boats.

Sightseeing:

Once an insignificant fishing village, this jet set haven became popular as an artists' colony in the late 19th century. But it was Roger Vadim's movie, And God Created Woman, filmed here with Brigitte Bardot, which brought about the international cult of Tropezian sun, sex and celebrities. Located at the end of its own peninsula, St. Tropez suddenly became the talk of the jet set, who propelled the tiny port into world fame.

A hundred years ago not even a proper road lead to St. Tropez; access was mainly by boat. Novelist Guy de Maupassant sailed his yacht into the port in 1880. The neo-Impressionist painter Paul Signac followed, as did a number of other famous artists and writers. By the time of World War I, St. Tropez was well established as a hangout for Bohemians.

The old part surrounding the harbor is the focal point. Here, narrow streets are packed between Quai Jean Jaurès, Place des Lices and what is left of the 16th-century citadel. The harbor is filled with sleek, gleaming yachts that have replaced the simple fishing boats. Pastel-colored houses ring the waterfront, presenting the classic St. Tropez impression of sidewalk cafés and small boutiques with the latest fashions.

Tours Excursions Transportation:

St Tropez is really easy to explore on foot. It's not that big and has a lot of narrow quaint streets and a few really old towers along the Port Ancien Bassin.

Taxis are available but unless you want to go out of town, it is much easier to just walk around here.

It pays to compare your cruise line tours here .

Nearby Places:

Port Grimaud (10 km) is a picturesque little town built in the sixties over a series of waterways, while Grimaud itself is a medieval town with a ruined chateau. Easily reached with the Bateau Verts

Further afield (25 km) is the historic Roman city of Fréjus , with a Roman arena and a 12th century cathedral. Be aware that during the summer period the coastal roads are be very busy.

St. Tropez is famous for its topless and some bottomless beaches. The better (private) beaches, like Tahiti Plage are past the headland, at least 3 km away on a stretch of sand called Pampelonne. To reach them, either take a taxi or one of the frequent beach shuttle mini buses from the Place des Lices. There are fees to use the beaches and traffic jams can be heavy, specially in midsummer, on the roads out of town.

Shopping and Food

St-Tropez is dense with stylish shops, but has no specific shopping street. Most shops are tucked in out-of-the-way corners of the old town. Big names include Hermès, Sonia Rykiel, and Dior. Galeries Tropéziennes, 56 rue Gambetta, crowds hundreds of gift items -- some worthwhile, some silly -- into its showrooms near place des Lices. The merchandise is Mediterranean, breezy, and sophisticated.

On Tuesday and Saturday mornings an outdoor market with food, clothes, and brocante (flea-market finds) blooms on place des Lices. This is one of the best Provençal markets in the south of France, with more than 100 vendors selling everything from tableware to homemade bread. The fish, vegetable, and flower market is down a tiled alley (place aux Herbes) behind the tourist office. It operates daily 8am to noon in summer and Tuesday to Sunday 8am to noon in winter.

The old town & the port of saint tropez

A Guide to Marinas & Moorings in Saint Tropez

With a beguiling mix of old wooden sailing masts and gleaming superyachts, the beautiful fishing village of Saint Tropez is perhaps the most famous yacht marina in the world.

Saint Tropez is a very splendid village, and its marina is an exciting place to be. However, given the competition and steep prices of a midsummer berth in Saint Tropez, you’ll often find that some of the neighbouring marinas offer a cheaper and more low-key experience (with the same great access to the stunning beaches and medieval villages of Provence).

Weekly Charters Day Charters Fishing Charters

The Port de Saint Tropez runs right along the cobbled water-front of this chic town, so you can step right off your boat and into the cool sophistication of Hotel de Paris or sip a glass of rose in one of the other pavement cafes . Or perhaps you’d like to have a Provencal lunch in a shady restaurant courtyard beneath the grape vines, followed by an afternoon spent shopping in the town’s glamorous boutiques .

Whatever floats your boat, Saint Tropez is a very special and memorable place to berth your vessel. It can also be quite a pricey one, with berth rates ranging between 27 euro per night for a 5m boat, to 2,894 euro for a 70m boat to come into port for a night.

As you might imagine, it can be tough finding a berth in Saint Tropez in summer. There’s just one marina in Saint Tropez proper, but if you can’t nab a spot there are some good marinas nearby, such as the well-protected Cogolin marina, Port Grimaud (‘the Venice of Provence’) and the relaxed seaside town of Cavalaire-sur-Mer.

Book My Berth

Moorings & marinas

Port de Saint Tropez The most glittering of marinas, Port de Saint Tropez , is relatively small, with 734 berths for yachts up to 50 metres in length, and a maximum draft of 6 metres. This is the only marina in Saint Tropez proper and berths are extremely sought after. The celebrity clientele ensures that the port’s level of service is high and that there are all the necessary amenities, from a dedicated business area, concierge or ‘groom’ service, WiFi subscription, fuel dock, free waste water pump-out and electricity etc. Saint-Tropez harbour also has two terraces on the Jean Réveille Pier which are available for hire for special events.

There is a sailing club in the port called the Societe de Nautique de Saint Tropez . Saint Tropez is the venue of 17 sailing events throughout the year, of which 6 are major regattas. In late September/early October, the Port de Saint Tropez hosts the last classic sailing regatta of the season, Les Voiles de Saint Tropez , transforming this already desperately pretty marina into a magnificent display of old wooden yachts, which race across the bay in the daytime under billowing cream sails before returning to port to a huge party at night. It’s quite a spectacle.

You can book your Saint Tropez berth online. The website also has an English version.

Marina de Port Grimaud Marina de Port Grimaud is a quite extraordinary marina on the Gulf of Saint Tropez, with over 2000 berths over three marinas connected by a quite charming network of canals, bridges and man-made islands. Often likened to Venice for its canal layout, this port was designed in 1967 by an architect who decided he wanted to build a marina and Provencal village on seaside canals in the South. While most of the berths are privately owned, several hundred are reserved for casual stays. The marinas can admit yachts up to 30 metres, but the majority of berths are for small vessels. You’ll find lots of shops, restaurants and services in the village- or you can just grab an ice-cream from a waterfront parlour and wander the network of canals. If you’re looking to explore the area, the old town of Grimaud is a perched village a few kilometres inland, with ancient links to the famous Grimaldi family- now the ruling family of Monaco. Port Grimaud is seven kilometres from Saint Tropez.

Marines de Cogolin Like Port Grimaud, the Marines de Cogolin is the sea port of a perched village a few kilometres inland. Another new port built to take advantage of the burgeoning leisure yacht industry, Cogolin is a very large port, with capacity for 1600 boats with a maximum length of 50 metres. The average depth is 4 metres. The marina is set over three large basins, and its position at the mouth of an inlet makes this a very sheltered marina during bad weather spells. The marina has a shipyard, chandlery, Laundromat, wifi, boat rentals, and all the usual services.

The complex also has shops, restaurants and services surrounding the marina, as well as a sailing school, swimming pool, diving school and tennis courts.

Port de Plaisance de Cavalaire Cavalaire is a relaxed and modern seaside town near Saint Tropez, but with none of its bling. With lots of great beaches, affordable restaurants and friendly locals, this is as far as you can get from Saint Tropez while still being close by. The Port de Plaisance de Cavalaire has 570 places over 5 pontoons and a main quay, catering to vessels up to 20m and with a 6m draft. There are basic services such as water and electricity on the dock, toilets and showers, and 24/7 marina security.

Port de Sainte Maxime This smaller port near Saint Tropez has 375 berths, catering to vessels up to 25m long. Port de Sainte Maxime has basic services such as electricity, water and a fuel dock, this is another low-key marina in a town with a family friendly vibe.

Port St tropez

We also operate from Port Saint Tropez. Saint Tropez’s  city develops around the port which becomes the centre of the economic activity of the village, as a true platform of the maritime activities of the city for 5 centuries. The port, having suffered the damage of the Second World War, was already a classified site, which allowed its identical reconstruction and the creation of the new basin. The layout of the port has evolved over time, but the port as we know it today is comprised of four parts: The old port, the Portalet jetty, the Jean Lescudier bay and the Saint-Elme tower.
