Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

<p><span>Savannah has numerous beautiful squares, but this one stands out for a few unique reasons. Notably, it served as a backdrop in the 1997 film </span><em><span>Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil</span></em><span>, starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack, an adaptation of John Berendt’s novel. Encircling the monument dedicated to Casimir Pulaski, the square features meticulously maintained gardens and serene oak trees adorned with Spanish moss. Additionally, the surrounding structures are among Savannah’s oldest, dating back to the 1800s, adding a historical charm to the area.</span></p><p><span>Mercer House, built in 1868, is now heavily associated with Berendt’s work. However, the strange stories surrounding the historic home are not fictional. This location has witnessed at least three premature deaths. These include the tragic incident in 1969 when 11-year-old Tommy Downs fell from the roof, the 1981 incident where Jim Williams—the current owner at the time—allegedly shot Danny Hansford, his employee, and the death of Williams himself of pneumonia and heart failure, a year after he was acquitted of the crime. Visitors can tour the house, and it’s the subject of many ghost tours in the area.</span></p>

Notably, it served as a backdrop in the 1997 film  Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil , starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack, an adaptation of John Berendt’s novel. Encircling the monument dedicated to Casimir Pulaski, the square features meticulously maintained gardens and serene oak trees adorned with Spanish moss. Additionally, the surrounding structures are among Savannah’s oldest, dating back to the 1800s, adding a historical charm to the area.

Mercer House, built in 1868, is now heavily associated with Berendt’s work. Visitors can tour the house, and it’s the subject of many ghost tours in the area.

<p>Collectively, we brand those aged 25 to 44 as millennials and often assign this group a set of characteristics as if they were a monolith. While the millennial generation is, in fact, a group of distinct, independent-minded individuals, many of them share common traits and values. This is important when we consider that millennials are moving to certain cities in large numbers.</p> <p>A group of SmartAsset researchers determined the percentage of millennials that represent new arrivals in certain cities. Here are the top cities drawing millennials.</p>

See Forsyth Park

For nature lovers, Forsyth Park is one of the top things to do in Savannah. This large city park covers 30 acres. It is famous for its winding walking paths, shady spots perfect for picnics beneath the majestic oaks, and the iconic fountain built in 1858. The fountain is meant to imitate the fountains at the Place de la Concorde in Paris. You’ll also find two children’s playgrounds and a fragrant garden created for blind people.

  • 752bethanyk 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles It was a pretty Off-Putting cruise today... narrator/ sites were fine but management and staff are questionable... The experience of a riverboat cruise is what we were looking most forward to on this trip to Savannah. The boat/ tour narrator deserves 5 stars but because of my experience I would rate it an overall 2 or 3 stars. My husband and I went on the lunch/site seeing cruise around 1pm. The buffet style food was very good but I found a long black hair in my mashed potatoes which really put me off. I didn't bring it to the staffs attention because accidents happen and we were trying to enjoy the afternoon on the boat. I decided to order a smoothy that comes in a souvenir cup and asked our waitress if I place the order with her or at the bar. She was very nice and said she would get that for me. Once she returned I asked if I pay now or at the end of the cruise for the drink. She said I can pay at the end but to come find her. My husband and I went to the upper deck to enjoy the sites and as I was drinking the smoothy I sucked up a peice of some type of flimsy metal thing, i'm not sure what it was but I am glad I didnt swallow it. I stopped drinking the smoothy because I didn't know what else was in it. As the boat was about to dock we went downstairs to pay at the bar and show the manager that there had been something in the drink just so they were aware. The woman at the bar looked at the peice of metal (which she took bare handed even though I told her it had been in my mouth and she said she didnt care), then threw my drink/souvenir cup away and offered to make me another peach smoothy. I excepted the new drink and had my card ready to pay for it when she told me not to worry about it because she wasn't going to make me pay for a drink that had something nasty in it. I said are you sure? She said yes, I told her thank you and then my husband and I went on our way to leave the boat. We made it off the boat when I hear a woman calling "ma'am! You forgot to pay for that!" I turn around to see our waitress running off the ship towards us....I told her, "I'm sorry you came all the way down here but the employee at the bar told me I didn't need to pay for the drink because there was some piece of metal in it." She said oh I had thought you just forgot to pay, but anyways my manager said you still have to pay for the original tab... I looked at her and said I have no problem doing that, that was why I came up to the bar in the first place so I could find you and pay for my drink and also let the manager know they had some metal material in my drink, I'm not trying to steal a 12 dollar smoothy." She apologized and said she was sorry for embarrassing me. I paid for the drink (which I had no problem doing). For the manager to make the waitress chase me off the ship through a crowd of people when I was told not to worry about the tab is crazy to me. If they can take an entire smoothy and souvenir cup and throw it in the trash because there was something bad in it, I think it would have been more classy just to write off the cup/ incident rather than having her chase me down. Especially when the manager was right there witnessing when the employee discarded the drink and made me a new one then didn't let me pay for it in the 1st place. In hindsight maybe the employee didnt realize I hadn't paid for any drink yet, but thats not how it came across at the time since when I approached her I literally said, "Hey, I need to pay for my drink but I also need to let you know I found this metal thing in it." Really disappointing since the cruise already makes so much money, and I had "settled" the issue before leaving the ship...just to be embarrassed in front of a bunch of strangers by being chased off this big ship. The nice waitress really should find another job, I don't see the Mangers chasing anyone off the boat over a cup. If you go on this ship maybe just skip the potential drama that comes with buying any special drink, and watch out for hairs in your food. Read more Written April 6, 2024

Savannah is a beautiful city best enjoyed on land. The line for the boat cued up about an hour before departure and took that long to board as they had the compulsory photo taken before boarding. Thought this would be a bit of an experience, and it was. The boat is beautiful, the cruise is very relaxed and casual. The staff are all wonderful, and the food is very good. The live entertainment was exceptional, and he absolutely made the whole experience. Love him, he engaged the crowd, had amazing stories, and is an absolute musical talent with a great repetoir. The food was very disappointing, cold watery mashed potato’s , cheese hot and sweaty, the crackers soft and stale. The staff were unhelpful, the food manger could not really care they were serving food that was inedible. Definitely would not recommend anyone taking a trip where food was included as all tables around us had food that could not be eaten due to reasons above. Read more Written March 24, 2024
