SUNRAYS Yacht – Exquisite $150M Superyacht

The $150 million superyacht features an interior design by Terrence Disdale, with an exterior penned by Bjorn Johannsson.

The yacht is at the forefront of comfort and luxury and was delivered in 2010 from the Oceanco shipyard.

English designer Terence Disdale penned the interior design of the SUNRAYS yacht. The interior has an abundance of space with amenities that provide a luxurious yachting experience for guests.

The interior is refined and opulent, with a dedicated dance floor, spa, and beauty salon with various treatments available.

The pampering doesn’t stop there; a steam room, a plunge pool in the sun, and a well-equipped gym are available on board.

The deck jacuzzi allows guests to soak up the bubbles in style. The beach club is an impressive feature of the yacht opening onto the water for fun in and out of the water. SUNRAYS features a spacious pool onboard.

The entrainment continues with the extensive toys on board the superyacht. There is a wide selection of action-packed toys for guests to choose from, from waterskis, scuba diving equipment, wakeboards, kayaks, and wave runners.

She is truly the best combination of luxury and action-packed adventure on the water. Details on board the yacht that gives her a luxurious feel are a glass and stainless steel cylindrical elevator.

There is accommodation for 12 guests in 9 suites. The rooms consist of a master suite, three VIP cabins, two double cabins, and two twin cabins.

Accommodation for 27 crew members allows the yachting experience to be the height of luxury.

The exterior of the SUNRAYS yacht was designed by Bjorn Johansson , with inspiration taken from his earlier award-winning design for the yacht Mirage.

She features sleep and elegant lines that create the impression of a dagger that represents power and strength.

The teal hull is steel, with a cream aluminum superstructure. The hull and superstructure are an eye-catching feature of the yacht.

She was built by Oceanco and delivered in 2010. She underwent a refit in 2018. The exterior also features impressive underwater lights that illuminate her throughout the night.

Specifications

The 85.5m yacht has a beam of 13.8m and a draft of 3.95m. SUNRAYS has a volume of 2867 gross tons and is powered by twin MTU engines.

She has a cruising speed of 14 knots and reaches a maximum of 20 knots.

SUNRAYS features anchor stabilizers that provide exceptional comfort levels for guests by reducing the rolling motion of the yacht on the water.

SUNRAYS Yacht for Charter

Redefining what a luxury yacht charter is all about, the 280-foot (85.5m) SUNRAYS boasts a superb charter reputation. Distinctive in every way, she has an elegant profile with flowing lines and teal blue hull. Blessed with an enviable pedigree, she is an outstanding Oceanco build that has been extensively refitted and is in pristine condition for luxury yacht charters. 

Designed by Terence Disdale, SUNRAYS’ elegant interior is a blend of mid-tones with an ethnic Oriental influence. Her vast interior volume spreads over six deck areas and includes a wellness spa with Hammam and sauna that takes over an entire deck. She also has a lounge that converts to a cinema, as well as a spacious main salon with lounge and formal dining area. Specifically designed for family use, every guest area allows for multi-functional entertaining spaces and flexibility. For example, discreet panels allow for rooms to be converted from large entertaining areas into intimate lounges, allowing guests to change use throughout their charter.

Nine suites include an owner’s apartment on the upper deck, with a private terrace and Jacuzzi, and an adjoining VIP stateroom with private balcony. The owner’s area also has an additional space for a third cabin allowing for family use. A second VIP stateroom is located on the main deck along with two double and two twin cabins. A third VIP stateroom is located on the lower deck with a private sea-level balcony. 

SUNRAYS’ decks house four Jacuzzi pools, including a large double pool on the main deck surrounded by sun pads, and a large oval Jacuzzi pool on the sundeck. She also boasts an elevator, a helipad, inside-outside gym and a large beach club area.

Her 85.5-metre exterior holds an exceptional number of amenities, from multiple Jacuzzis and a large pool to a formal dining room that seats 22, a spa salon with a steam room, and accommodation for up to 12 guests.

Interior Design & Engineering

The Terence Disdale-designed interior of the SUNRAYS yacht is exceptionally opulent. Her spacious main salon is home to multiple comfy seating areas and leads to a billiards room with a gyroscopic pool table and a formal dining area.

There’s space for 12 guests to be accommodated on the SUNRAYS motor yacht. The upper deck master suite boasts its own private terrace with Jacuzzi. It’s complemented by an adjoining VIP suite with a fold-down balcony and convertible study, which can be transformed into a vast living area.

The rest of the group will sleep across two VIPs, two doubles and two twins. If needed, it’s possible to accommodate an extra four occasional workers during the charter, provided the requisite paperwork is in place.

She’s well equipped for multimedia entertainment, with Apple TV, Kaleidescape and Sky available—plus she boasts a dedicated video conferencing room.

Yacht Facilities & Entertainment

The SUNRAYS yacht has exceptional exterior deck areas. There’s an al fresco dining area that seats 22, and she boasts three different Jacuzzis, as well as a large pool. You can even party the night away with her music deck featuring a DJ and speaker system.

On the bridge deck, you’ll find a lavish spa with a steam room—and two spa therapists on staff to provide treatments. There’s also another lounge that doubles as a cinema and a Jacuzzi with a bar on the aft deck.

The sun deck of SUNRAYS includes a gym that offers panoramic views while you work out. It’s equipped with a bike, treadmill, weight station, and more.

Zero-speed stabilisers guarantee comfort, while an elevator makes it easy for guests to move between decks.

Toys & Crew

A crew of 29 will oversee your SUNRAYS yacht charter.

When you’re ready to work your way through her toy box, you can slide straight into the blue from her upper deck or dive off the swim platform.

The SUNRAYS motor yacht is an approved RYA water sports centre. Her ample toy garage includes waverunners, SeaBobs, an E-foil, a Jet Surf, and wakeboards, kayaks and SUPs. As well as a waterslide, she’s got an inflatable trampoline, jungle joe and a floating cabana. There’s also a dive compressor and dive gear for qualified scuba divers.

If you want to stay dry, you can go fishing, use her Tee-on golf system, or hop in one of her multiple tenders to head ashore.

'Negligence' by Caribbean police blamed in murders of Americans on yacht: prime minister

Three Caribbean prison escapees, who allegedly killed an American couple, were placed in the wrong cells that were less secure, despite warnings they were dangerous and flight risks, the Grenada prime minister said this week.

Ron Mitchell, 30, Trevon Robertson, 23, and Abita Stanislaus, 25, were supposed to be placed in individual jail cells that had a "secure locking mechanism," Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said.

Instead, they were "in a corridor" with burglar bars that suspects bent and broke free from South St. George Police Station on Feb. 18, according to Mitchell, who added that four officers were arrested.

"It is clear that had the men been placed in the individual locking cells which had proper functioning locking mechanisms, they would not have escaped or had the opportunity to escape," the prime minister said. "The investigation concluded … human error, primarily in the form of negligence, played a pivotal role in the escape."

The fleeing suspects hijacked Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel's yacht during a violent altercation that allegedly included Brandel's rape.

The retired couple from Virginia were allegedly thrown overboard somewhere between Grenada, where the suspects escaped, and the island of St. Vincent, where they were ultimately recaptured.

"So far," four officers were arrested and charged with several crimes under the country's Police Act, including making a false statement, permitting the escape of prisoners and breaches of the Standing Orders, the prime minister said.

"It is also clear that the leadership at the station is a matter that requires attention as well, and the commission of police has commissioned an investigation into the role of leadership at the time (of the escape)," Mitchell said during a March 13 press conference.

Despite the negligence and arrests, Mitchell expressed his support for law enforcement and said "disrespecting the police will not be tolerated."

WATCH BLOODIED SUSPECT'S ARREST

Authorities still have not found Hendry or Brandel's bodies in the 70-plus miles of water between the two islands.

Last week, the suspects were returned to Grenada, where they were all charged with two counts of capital murder , escaping lawful custody, housebreaking, robbery and two counts of kidnapping. Stanislaus was also charged with rape.

Robertson was shot by police on St. Vincent during his arrest.

Police said he reached for an officer's gun, according to Searchlight and other local outlets, but he denied this narrative during his court appearance.

"I never wrestle with no officer," he reportedly told the judge. "The officer throw me on the ground and just shoot me on me foot, you understand? I never wrestle with no police, you understand?"

The beloved couple's yacht – "Simplicity" – was docked off Grand Anse Beach in Grenada, a popular tourist hot spot that the couple sailed to, when the suspects allegedly took the vessel by force as part of their getaway.

Their sons, Nick Buro and Bryan Hendry, talked about their parents' impact on them and others in previous interviews.

"Ralph and Kathy lived a life that most of us can only dream of," they said in a heartfelt message.

They sailed off the eastern coast of the United States and "made friends with everyone they encountered, singing, dancing and laughing with friends and family."

"That's who Ralph and Kathy were and that’s how they will be remembered in our hearts," they said. "We live in a world that at times can be cruel, but it’s also a world of profound beauty, wonder, adventure, love, compassion, caring and faith.

"Our parents encompassed all those values and so much more."

India will lower import taxes on certain electric vehicles for companies committing to invest at least $500 million and setting up a local manufacturing facility within three years, a policy shift that could potentially bolster Tesla's plans to enter the South Asian market. American readers of this column are stretching my patience. Those who rushed into bitcoin exchange traded funds (ETFs) after my column in January are bombarding me with photos of new cars, villas in the Bahamas and expensive bum-lifts.

So thanks a tonne Financial Conduct Authority for denying us British investors the spoils of a two-thirds gain in prices. Hopefully, you own bitcoin via other means. But my portfolio only holds regulated securities available to all — so crypto I have none.

And will continue to do so even after the FCA opened the way on Monday for bitcoin-backed exchange traded notes (debt securities that trade like ETFs) to be sold in the UK. Only professional investors can buy them.

What a joke. I’m allowed to punt penny stocks or be all-in on a spread bet which could go to zero. Regulators are fine about contracts for difference purchased with 30 times leverage. A bitcoin ETN, however? “Ill-suited for retail customers.”

I digress, though. Because as well as a bunch of emails about newly-bought yachts (these particularly grate as mine continues to smoulder ) yet more readers cite my column of February 9 which promised that Asia would be the next topic for review.

Sorry about that. I was busy ignoring the UK Budget and researching lithium power banks . And it’s lucky I was. Over the past two months my iShares MSCI EM Asia ETF is up 11 per cent.

It’s almost as if it knew it was for the chop, as I have despaired of my woeful Asian fund for years. Over the past five, for example, the second worst performing ETF in my portfolio — UK equities — has twice the total return.

I was running out of patience but kept convincing myself to hold on. So what now? Is this latest rise just another dead cat bounce? After all, Asian stocks have made similar gains half a dozen times in the past five years — to no avail.

First, I need to remember what is in this fund. I’ve invested in the region for decades and still the MSCI Asia indices baffle me. Did you know they include India? Even the Asia Pacific index, which doesn’t gel with my atlas.

Likewise, MSCI EM Asia, the index my ETF tracks, is supposed to include emerging market countries only. So no Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong. Fair enough — indeed the absence of Japan is why I chose this fund.

Why then does it have a 20 per cent weighting in Taiwan or 16 per cent in South Korea, both with outputs per capita equal to Japan’s? Not that I’m complaining. It means I’ve enjoyed the recent artificial intelligence bonanza, thanks to Taiwan Semiconductor .

In fact, the latter at 10.6 per cent is by far the biggest stock in the ETF — almost twice the size of number two. Which is? Actually, it is another fund: the iShares MSCI China A ETF.

I haven’t a clue what four out of the top 10 China A companies even do. Never heard of them — although I do know the biggest by a factor of three makes baijiu, a liquor Stuart Kirk

Golly, I had no idea. So what’s in that then? Well, China A shares are large and mid-cap names listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges which are available to foreign investors via the “stock connect” with Hong Kong.

To be honest, I haven’t a clue what four out of the top 10 China A companies even do. Never heard of them — although I do know the biggest by a factor of three makes baijiu, a liquor so popular that Kweichow Moutai’s market cap is four times Diageo’s.

After that, Samsung Electronics is my Asia fund’s third-largest holding at 5 per cent. Its share price is more or less flat since 2018. Tencent and Alibaba at 4 per cent and 3 per cent respectively are next. I dare not look at those charts — ugh!  

Then it drops away fast in terms of size. However, I am pleased to see the presence of two Indian companies — Reliance and Infosys — in the top 10. I wasn’t exactly sure if I had much skin in the country’s latest bull market.

All of which reminds me of the breadth and variety within these Asia funds. The more I think about it, my usual practice of analysing aggregate valuation ratios in the hope of understanding what is going on under the hood is ridiculous.

Really, the only approach that even half makes sense, or doesn’t take a million years, is to compare today’s valuation with the past — so long as the index hasn’t changed too much. Likewise if we want to make a relative call, say against a S&P 500 fund.

On the latter, I’m not impressed that the MSCI EM Asia index hasn’t been this cheap relative to the US on a price-to-book basis since the dotcom boom. I want to make money in absolute terms. That it is less expensive than something expensive doesn’t wash.

More annoying is that Asia valuation ratios are no longer cheap relative to the past — over any period and based on forward earnings or book value. The rally has raised the numerator while China has hammered the denominator.

Meanwhile, tracking flows in and out of Asian equities is silly, as I’ve also written previously . Foreigners do put more money into the region when their own markets are doing poorly, according to Refinitiv data, but only the price at which they trade matters.

Finally, I have yet to see proof that any catch-all economic indicators are worth following. The fund is too diverse. That said, a weaker greenback does seem to buoy returns, according to a Bank for International Settlements paper I’ve quoted before.

Where does that leave us? Asian stocks look a poor bet versus history, and it is 50:50 if the dollar can help. Together that’s crappy odds. I’d rather own bitcoin.
