Tesla Unveils Self-Sustaining Electric Yacht

Tesla just unveiled the design for its self-sustaining, all-electric Model Y yacht, and it represents just about everything you’d expect from the extremely creative and game-changing company. After all, Tesla has already made head-turning inroads in the automotive market and in outer space, so it seems reasonable that it might venture into the marine sphere with something new as well. (See the video below.)

Elon Musk started making Tesla electric cars in 2008. This week, Tesla’s market cap is $663.85 billion, equal to that of the nine largest car companies in the world – combined. He founded SpaceX in 2002; it became the first private company to send humans into orbit last year, and it launched 143 satellites on a single mission in January – the most ever.

Tesla is not for the faint of heart. And the 131-foot Tesla yacht, called Model Y, seems to fit into the family pattern. It has a Tesla color scheme, for one thing. Then there’s the low, flowing design that sets it apart and is somewhat reminiscent of a spaceship sitting in the water.

For power, the Tesla yacht does not have to pull up to a fuel dock, or even plug into an electric circuit somewhere. The yacht is meant to be fully self-charging; it generates its own power, relying on a hydro-electric system. A turbine on the bottom of the hull charges the batteries that run the yacht. And solar panels on the top charge the batteries when the yacht is not moving.

The yacht has only two decks, with a creative aft cockpit – Tesla’s take on the current beach club trend – that can be opened wide for sunbathing, hopping into the Jacuzzi or enjoying water sports. When the weather turns, you just push a button and a massive shutter comes down to seal it off.

The lower deck is a large social area, with round tables in the center. Push a button and four chairs emerge from the table sides. Private rooms are forward on that deck; one can be a spa; others can be bedrooms. The helm also is on the lower deck.

The upper deck features a “glass room” with glass walls for 360-degree views. It has a sunken bar under foot, and tiny holes in the ceiling to look at the stars. See the video here:

A $30 million Instagram-famous superyacht in the Caribbean has installed Elon Musk's Starlink internet

• A $30 million superyacht has installed SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet.
• SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said the news was "cool" in a Twitter post.
• The captain told Teslarati that Starlink was a game-changer, but didn't work when crossing the Atlantic.

Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet, is now up and running on an Instagram-famous $30 million superyacht based in the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Teslarati first reported the news. The captain and a spokesperson for the yacht confirmed the news to Insider.

Motor yacht Loon, billed as the world's most Instagrammed superyacht with "seven star" service, switched to Starlink when the maritime version of the service was released in early July, Captain Paul Clarke told Insider.

Musk responded to the Teslarati article on Twitter, saying "cool." The billionaire is the founder of SpaceX, which owns Starlink. The company has more than 2,900 satellites currently in orbit, launched by SpaceX's Falcon 9 rockets.

Starlink Maritime on Loon costs $5,000 a month for consistent speeds, ranging from 150 Megabits per second to 200 Megabits per second, Clarke said. This is a drop in price from the yacht's previous internet service, Viasat, which charged $10,000 a month for speeds of 50 to 80 Megabits per second, Clarke added.

"We've thrown everything we can at it, and it hasn't missed a beat," Clarke told Insider.

Clarke told Teslarati that Starlink was a "total game-changer" because every television on the 180-foot yacht is now able to stream in high-definition.

When Loon crossed the Atlantic Ocean, Starlink didn't work, Clarke told Teslarati. He reached out to Starlink's support team, who told him the service is expected to work in that area towards the end of the year, Clarke said in the interview.

Clarke plans to test Starlink when Loon crosses the Atlantic again in May next year, he told Teslarati.

A spokesperson for Loon told Insider the crew onboard the yacht have experienced good internet connection thanks to Starlink, saying their experience was "really positive."

The spokesperson added that Starlink has enabled the yacht's onboard videographer to share content "much more efficiently."

Loon has more than 62,000 followers on Instagram , where it posts scenic pictures of the yacht, crew, food onboard, and activities available during a charter. Clarke told Teslarati the yacht was worth $30 million. Loon can accommodate 12 guests and 14 crew and has an infinity pool, jacuzzi, and open-air bar, according to its website .

As Starlink expands its network, users across the world are reporting the different ways they are deploying Starlink. One user told Insider last week that he took Starlink on a week's sailing vacation to Greece and said the service was "surprisingly good."

Tesla’s Elon Musk and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos have been vying for the world’s richest person ranking all year after the former’s wealth soared a staggering US$160 billion in 2020, putting him briefly in the top spot .

Musk isn’t alone in seeing a significant increase in wealth during a year of pandemic, recession and death. Altogether, the world’s billionaires saw their wealth surge over $1.9 trillion in 2020, according to Forbes.

Those are astronomical numbers, and it’s hard to get one’s head around them without some context. As anthropologists who study energy and consumer culture, we wanted to examine how all that wealth translated into consumption and the resulting carbon footprint.

Walking in a billionaire’s shoes

We found that billionaires have carbon footprints that can be thousands of times higher than those of average Americans.

The wealthy own yachts, planes and multiple mansions, all of which contribute greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. For example, a superyacht with a permanent crew, helicopter pad, submarines and pools emits about 7,020 tons of CO2 a year, according to our calculations, making it by the far worst asset to own from an environmental standpoint. Transportation and real estate make up the lion’s share of most people’s carbon footprint, so we focused on calculating those categories for each billionaire.

To pick a sample of billionaires, we started with the 2020 Forbes List of 2,095 billionaires. A random or representatives sample of billionaire carbon footprints is impossible because most wealthy people shy away from publicity , so we had to focus on those whose consumption is public knowledge. This excluded most of the superrich in Asia and the Middle East .

We combed 82 databases of public records to document billionaires’ houses, vehicles, aircraft and yachts. After an exhaustive search, we started with 20 well-known billionaires whose possessions we were able to ascertain, while trying to include some diversity in gender and geography. We have submitted our paper for peer review but plan to continue adding to our list.

We then used a wide range of sources, such as the U.S. Energy Information Administration and Carbon Footprint , to estimate the annual CO2 emissions of each house, aircraft, vehicle and yacht. In some cases we had to estimate the size of houses from satellite images or photos and the use of private aircraft and yachts by searching the popular press and drawing on other studies . Our results are based on analyzing typical use of each asset given its size and everything else we could learn.

We did not try to calculate each asset’s “ embodied carbon ” emissions – that is, how much CO2 is burned throughout the supply chain in making the product – or the emissions produced by their family, household employees or entourage. We also didn’t include the emissions of companies of which they own part or all, because that would have added another significant degree of complexity. For example, we didn’t calculate the emissions of Tesla or Amazon when calculating Musk’s or Bezos’ footprints.

In other words, these are all likely conservative estimates of how much they emit.

Your carbon footprint

To get a sense of perspective, let’s start with the carbon footprint of the average person.

Residents of the U.S., including billionaires, emitted about 15 tons of CO2 per person in 2018. The global average footprint is smaller, at just about 5 tons per person.

In contrast, the 20 people in our sample contributed an average of about 8,190 tons of CO2 in 2018. But some produced far more greenhouse gases than others.

The jet-setting billionaire

Roman Abramovich, who made most of his $19 billion fortune trading oil and gas, was the biggest polluter on our list. Outside of Russia, he is probably best known as the headline-grabbing owner of London’s Chelsea Football Club.

Abramovich cruises the Mediterranean in his superyacht, named the Eclipse , which at 162.5 meters bow to stern is the second-biggest in the world, rivaling some cruise ships. And he hops the globe on a custom-designed Boeing 767 , which boasts a 30-seat dining room. He takes shorter trips in his Gulfstream G650 jet, one of his two helicopters or the submarine on his yacht.

He maintains homes in many countries, including a mansion in London’s Kensington Park Gardens, a chateau in Cap D’Antibes in France and a 28-hectare estate in St. Barts that once belonged to David Rockefeller . In 2018, he left the U.K. and settled in Israel , where he became a dual citizen and bought a home in 2020 for $64.5 million.

We estimate that he was responsible for at least 33,859 metric tons of CO2 emissions in 2018 – more than two-thirds from his yacht, which is always ready to use at a moment’s notice year-round.

Massive mansions and private jets

Bill Gates, currently the world’s fourth-richest person with $124 billion, is a “modest” polluter – by billionaire standards – and is typical of those who may not own a giant yacht but make up for it with private jets.

Co-founder of Microsoft, he retired in 2020 to manage the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the world’s largest charity, with an endowment of $50 billion.

In the 1990s, Gates built Xanadu – named after the vast fictional estate in Orson Welles’ “Citizen Kane” – at a cost of $127 million in Medina, Washington. The giant home covers 6,131 square meters, with a 23-car garage, a 20-person cinema and 24 bathrooms. He also owns at least five other dwellings in Southern California, the San Juan Islands in Washington state, North Salem, New York, and New York City, as well as a horse farm , four private jets, a seaplane and “a collection” of helicopters .

We estimated his annual footprint at 7,493 metric tons of carbon, mostly from a lot of flying.

The environmentally minded tech CEO

South African-born Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, has a surprisingly low carbon footprint despite being the world’s second-richest person, with $177 billion – and he seems intent on setting an example for other billionaires .

He doesn’t own a superyacht and says he doesn’t even take vacations .

We calculated a relatively modest carbon footprint for him in 2018, thanks to his eight houses and one private jet. This year, his carbon footprint would be even lower because in 2020 he sold all of his houses and promised to divest the rest of his worldly possessions .

While his personal carbon footprint is still hundreds of times higher than that of an average person, he demonstrates that the superrich still have choices to make and can indeed lower their environmental impact if they so choose.

His estimated footprint from the assets we looked at was 2,084 tons in 2018.

The value of naming and shaming

The aim of our ongoing research is to get people to think about the environmental burden of wealth.

While plenty of research has shown that rich countries and wealthy people produce far more than their share of greenhouse gas emissions, these studies can feel abstract and academic, making it harder to change this behavior.

We believe “shaming” – for lack of a better word – superrich people for their energy-intensive spending habits can have an important impact, revealing them as models of overconsumption that people shouldn’t emulate.

Newspapers, cities and local residents made an impact during the California droughts of 2014 and 2015 by “drought shaming” celebrities and others who were wasting water, seen in their continually green lawns . And the Swedes came up with a new term – “ flygskam ” or flying shame – to raise awareness about the climate impact of air travel.

Climate experts say that to have any hope of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels, countries must cut their emissions in half by 2030 and eliminate them by 2050.

Asking average Americans to adopt less carbon-intensive lifestyles to achieve this goal can be galling and ineffective when it would take about 550 of their lifetimes to equal the carbon footprint of the average billionaire on our list.

The World’s Richest Man Has A Surprisingly Modest Taste In Superyachts

The same can't be said for his taste in private jets, however...

Many rich people seem to be compensating for something when they buy f*ck off Ferraris and stonking superyachts. Elon Musk, however, was recently spotted off the coast of Greece in a relatively small charter yacht called Zeus.

In recent years, Elon Musk has kicked Jeff Bezos off this throne as ‘world’s richest man.’ Musk’s current net worth is $234.4 billion. Jeff Bezos’ net worth, for comparison, is $143.9 billion. Elon Musk’s companies include SpaceX, Tesla, The Boring Company, Neuralink and OpenAI. He can be a bit awkward, as seen on Joe Rogan’s podcast , and some people hate his Promethean attitude , but he is a fan of dry humour, a genius and is apparently (sometimes) able to manipulate crypto and stock markets at whim (make of that what you will).

Elon Musk also owns a $70 million (AUD $101 million) private jet, but – surprisingly, when you consider the spending habits of many of his contemporaries – does not own a superyacht. To this end, on a recent vacation to Greece, Musk was spotted on a boat called Zeus, which can be charted for some $7,000 (AUD $10,109) a day.

This isn’t cheap by most people’s standards. But when you compare it to Jeff Bezos’ US$500 million, 127 metre long superyacht – which is going to be the biggest in the world – or any one of these Russian oligarchs’ outlandishly luxurious oceanic steeds , Musk’s rented 24-metre yacht starts to look positively ‘Marie Kondo.’

Musk reportedly rented Zeus from SamBoat, which is a European online boat-rental company. According to Insider , the Zeus yacht that Musk was spotted on takes 20 people and is made for full-day excursions (when DMARGE checked SamBoat’s website , we could only find a boat called Zeus which takes 11 and is 12.3m long, however).

Insider isn’t alone though. Yahoo News has also reported that the Zeus vessel Musk was spotted on is 24 metres long. So presumably there is another, bigger Zeus out there than the one we could find. In any case, Musk appeared to enjoy his day of leisure, being hosed off on the back deck and joking about it on Twitter (he wrote: “I should take my shirt off more often”).

Features and activities of Zeus include swimming off the back, chilling on the deck, sitting down for a meal (or sipping a cocktail) inside, sleeping in one of the four indoor berths and exploring the marvellous waters of the Aegean Sea with a snorkel and flippers.

A list of the most disturbing, hilarious, and catastrophic cybertruck disasters..

Here’s a serious question: Since Tesla’s Cybertruck was officially rolled out to the public on Nov. 30, has it seen a single week without a series of either hilarious or nigh-catastrophic disasters?

It has been four years since Elon Musk botched the exhibition of his company’s first electric pickup truck, by touting “unbreakable,” “bulletproof,” “Armor Glass” windows that broke easily after contact with a metal ball. (The windows being easy to break might have been a good thing, however: As the Wall Street Journal reported recently, the shipping executive Angela Chao died in a tragic accident after she backed her Tesla Model X into a pond and firefighters, police, and paramedics were unable to break the Tesla’s windows and rescue her.)

Having now recovered from myriad parts-sourcing and manufacturing issues, the Cybertruck has seen its belated introduction to prime time greeted with much hype—and worry. It’s not just the overwhelming size and weight of the thing, or its documented struggles in scaling off-road hills , or its sharp, stainless steel edges, all of which could prove fatal in the event of a collision with pedestrians, bikers, or other drivers. Really, it’s … basically everything about this boxy monstrosity. During the November rollout at Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory, tech reporters and other observers made note of the truck’s complicated doors, its floppy and lengthy windshield wipers (which … don’t cover the entire windshield, are rather expensive to replace , and apparently “ flop around like a wet noodle ”), its windows’ rebranding as “rock-proof” instead of “bulletproof,” and its incredibly faulty anti-crash features. Not long after the event, even more concerning elements came to the public’s attention, in the least ideal way possible: publicly, and dangerously.

Let’s lay out a little timeline here:

• Just a few days after the rollout, a transportation-focused TikTokker posted a popular video showing off the Cybertruck’s alarming “ visibility fails ,” including the driver’s obstructed front and rear views, and the lack of easy functionality for gear shifts and land-change indicators.

• A few days after that , Instagram user Matt Chambers shared videos from an off-road trail in Bear Valley, California, where a Cybertruck slid far from the track and had to get towed by a Ford pickup driven by his friends. It turns out, per an update to the caption, that this truck had “traction control issues due to software problems, not aired down, no pickup points, poor choice of tires and no recovery points!” Thanks to the popularity of the videos, Chambers is now selling a limited-edition “CyberStuck” sticker, in case you’re interested.

• A late-December head-on collision in Palo Alto between a Cybertruck and a teen-driven 2009 Toyota Corolla all but destroyed the latter’s front end, although, thankfully, no passengers in either vehicle were seriously hurt.

• By early January, it became apparent the Cybertruck was not up to the job of navigating an extremely snowy winter, thanks to faulty tires unable to find traction in fluttery conditions. Social media posts from drivers showed their trucks stranded on the side of the road, blanketed by snow.

• Later that month, after Cybertruck owners complained that their vehicles’ mileage capacities per charge were far lower than advertised , another off-road-driving YouTuber detailed his struggles with operating the truck’s locking software and the Cybertruck’s difficulty navigating the inclines in a Texas dirt-road park. Humiliatingly, his friends managed to tackle the park just fine in their Subaru Crosstrek and Toyota 4Runner.

• In early February, a immediately viral, now-deleted video from user @blakestonks showed us the worst of both worlds: a Cybertruck driver going hands-free on the highway while wearing an Apple Vision Pro headset and clearly occupied with some sort of virtual game. Other outlets reshared the clip:

• Also in early February, at the desert-racing King of the Hammers tournament, a Cybertruck’s rear wheels popped off after its driver put it through what Futurism called “ some gnarly donuts .” The Cybertruck wasn’t the only vehicle there to undergo technical difficulties—but, because it’s an all-wheel drive, it was the only vehicle whose rear wheels broke off. Not great for a supposedly invincible juggernaut. (Oh, and did we mention that the Cybertruck’s tires are already weaker than most, thanks to tightly applied wheel covers that rub up against the rubber?)

• This has already earned quite a bit of attention at this point, but it’s worth reiterating that not only did Musk’s insistence on a stainless-steel exterior for the Cybertruck lead to yearslong manufacturing delays but has now fueled customer dissatisfaction with the discoloration and “orange rust” stains that affect the truck’s look whenever it gets wet. As Wired explains, “The Cybertruck does not ship with a clear coat,” but you can purchase a $5,000 Tesla-produced wrap if you’d like to keep your shiny truck from looking all corroded. So much for stainless!

• To kick off March, tweeter Matthew Chiarello shared this harrowing story in a now-deleted post : “Love @tesla and my @cybertruck but ‘catastrophe failure’ with steering and brakes while on a road trip with wife and toddler. … Pretty pretty pretty not good. Oh and service center not open today. @elonmusk.” Pretty much explains itself.

• Another early-March post from a Cybertruck owner that earned some attention: “I’ve had my truck for two days, got in this morning, everything was on. Went to press the brake to put it in reverse and everything went black. Power door button wouldn’t even let me out, had to use manual release to get out. I can not get back in either. My battery is at 40%, so no it’s not dead.” Ah, well, nevertheless.

• Last Tuesday, a local news channel in Monterey County filmed a Cybertruck that “ got stuck while illegally driving on Marina State Beach .” The drivers could only push it away from the beach after the local fire department arrived to deflate the tires. Naturally, many online observers had fun with this image, recalling memories of the big ol’ boat that got stuck in the Suez Canal almost exactly three years ago.

• Only a few hours after sharing an Instagram video in which he flexed his new Cybertruck, the up-and-coming rap star 2Rare admitted that he’d crashed it into a sign outside the Beverly Hills Hotel, an incident that gained even Elon Musk’s attention. 2Rare’s reaction to seeing his whip literally go up in flames ? “Iknoo i F#^ked that money upp yall iknoo.”

• On Friday, the popular YouTube reviewer JerryRigEverything decided to test the Cybertruck’s “bulletproof” claim by firing a .223-caliber AR-15 at its steel walls, which indeed gave way to the powerful rifle’s bullets.

• Oh, and by the way, if you wanna attach a “Basecamp” tent to the back of your Cybertruck, it’ll cost you $3,000 , and the tent will be nowhere near as sturdy or as adaptable to your truck’s needs as advertised.

• Over the weekend, a Texas-based electric vehicle enthusiast tweeted a video of his Cybertruck’s screen flashing red with a “critical steering issue” warning, forcing him to pull over in a parking lot. What ended up fixing this? “Walking away from the vehicle and coming back resolved the issue,” he wrote.

• Also over the weekend, Tesla fan and TikTokker Jeremy Judkins posted a video of what will happen should you find yourself locked inside the Cybertruck’s trunk, or Cybertrunk : There is no glow-in-the-dark emergency release—normally a standard feature for passenger vehicles—and the space contains internal sound pretty effectively. Another issue Tesla just might wanna fix.

Well! That should suffice in bringing you up to speed on the fragile state of the Cybertruck, dear reader. Little wonder that fans of Golden State Warriors star Gary Payton II are begging him not to get one for himself—even as resale prices for the truck reach record lows, thanks to disaffected owners flooding the auction market with their discolored, damaged, unsafe, complicated, and possibly wheel-less vehicles. (But if you try to list your Cybertruck for resale, Tesla might retaliate against your account and cancel your other reservations with the company, according to Electrek.) For Elon Musk, who’s betting a lot on Cybertruck success for the sake of Tesla’s business, that may end up being the worst crash of all: the hit to his market share. Who knows? Maybe it’ll take another four years to helm a safer version.

Don lemon's deal with x canceled, he blames elon musk interview, don lemon x partnership falls apart ... reportedly pissed off elon, breaking news 2k 3/13/2024 10:29 am pt.

Don Lemon 's X partnership is dunzo -- his deal falling apart before the first episode could even air ... and he blames his Elon Musk interview, where he apparently struck a nerve.

The former CNN anchor took to social media Wednesday to announce the end of his exclusive deal with Elon's platform -- both via written statement and in a short video he posted to X, ironically enough.

The way Don explains it ... he sat down with Elon Friday to interview him for the first episode of "The Don Lemon Show," saying he wanted to speak with Musk as his debut guest because Elon considers himself a major proponent of free speech.

Don said the interview had no off-limit topics, and -- even though DL admits the convo got tense at times ... ultimately, he says he felt it was a good, fair back-and-forth.

However, it sounds like Musk didn't feel the same way according to Lemon ... who claims his deal with X -- agreed upon just two months ago -- was terminated mere hours after their interview wrapped.

Lemon told his fans he worked with X because he's a believer in free speech and wanted his message to reach a mass audience ... and, getting "fired" from X ain't stopping the former CNN anchor from airing it on the platform and elsewhere.

Lemon says he's still dropping the interview in all its glory Monday, March 18 on YouTube and X as well -- seemingly a big middle finger to EM and co. He's also gonna carry on with the show without X's backing ... so, the "The Don Lemon Show" is still on.

As for exactly what the two discussed ... we don't know much, but reports are floating around Don asked some hard-hitting questions -- including queries about Musk's use of ketamine.

BTW ... Lemon apparently still thinks X owes him money -- with a spokesperson for Don telling news site Puck he's willing to go to court for the cash he believes is owed ... to be continued, we suppose.

For their part, X is saying their platform is all about free speech, and Don can freely post whatever he wants ... but also X is still a business and can choose to begin or end partnerships with businesses as it sees fit.

His approach was basically just “CNN, but on social media”, which doesn’t work, as evidenced by the fact that CNN is dying. And, instead of it being the real Don Lemon, it was really just Jeff Zucker talking through Don, so lacked authenticity. As for Elon ... he responded to a Mark Zuckerberg parody account on X -- and claimed Don was still doing his CNN shtick, just on X -- and he said he felt Don was just parroting his old boss at the network, Jeff Zucker . EM also says he felt Don was putting on an act and not being his authentic self ... which was apparently enough for him to scrap their deal.

Seems like lots of bad blood on both sides ... and we're sure it's not over yet.

"The Don Lemon" show is still set to debut on Monday — albeit without X's blessing — and will feature the conversation with Musk as planned

Don Lemon says his talk show deal with social media platform X is on the rocks after he asked Elon Musk tough questions during a pre-recorded interview, which is set to premiere during The Don Lemon Show 's first episode on Monday.

The former CNN anchor, who was ousted from the network nearly a year ago, announced earlier this year that he had partnered with Musk to create a show that would facilitate "honest debate and discussion without the hall monitors."

But on Wednesday — just days ahead of the show's debut on X — Lemon revealed that Musk decided to back out of the deal at the last minute, reneging his "commitment to amplifying more diverse voices on their platform," according to the journalist.

"Hi everyone, Elon Musk is mad at me," Lemon said in a video posted on social media Wednesday, where he explained that the X deal was off, and that Musk's commitment to "free speech absolutism" didn't seem to apply after the tech mogul himself was put in the hot seat.

Still, Lemon said in the video, he will move forward with The Don Lemon Show , posting episodes to YouTube, X and everywhere you can find podcasts. He also assured that his interview with Musk would still air on Monday as planned, noting that the only part of his show that will be changing is "my relationship to Musk and X."

In a written statement also released on Wednesday, Lemon elaborated on his disappointment with Musk for walking away from the deal.

"[Musk] informed me of his decision hours after an interview I conducted with him on Friday," Lemon said in the statement, explaining, "There were no restrictions on the interview that he willingly agreed to, and my questions were respectful and wide ranging, covering everything from SpaceX to the presidential election."

"We had good conversation," Lemon continued. "Clearly he felt differently. His commitment to a global town square where all questions can be asked and all ideas can be shared seems to not include questions of him from people like me."

Also in the statement, Lemon said that the reason he wanted to work with a controversial person like Musk in the first place is that he believed it would help his work reach the largest number of people.

He claimed that Musk promised his "full support" for The Don Lemon Show , saying, "I took Elon and his management team's word that they, for the first time, were interested in working directly with new and diverse voices."

Lemon first announced his new talk show in January, at the time writing , "I've heard you... and today I am back bigger, bolder, freer! My new media company's first project is The Don Lemon Show. It will be available to everyone, easily, whenever and wherever you want it, streaming on the platforms where the conversations are happening."

Lemon said that he had reached a "content partnership" with X, meaning the 30-minute episodes would air on Musk's social media site before reaching other platforms. "I know now more than ever that we need a place for honest debate and discussion without the hall monitors," Lemon wrote. "This is just the beginning so stay tuned."

That same day, X confirmed news of the deal in a statement , which read, "We’re delighted to announce a new content partnership with @DonLemon for his new project, The Don Lemon Show. The award winning TV journalist will share his unique and honest voice in 30 minute episodes, three times a week, covering politics, culture, sports and entertainment. The show will run exclusively first on X. Welcome Don!"

Elon Musk’s Hyperloop idea could be coming to Moscow

Los Angeles-based startup Hyperloop One has reached a deal with the city of Moscow that could bring the high-tech transit concept to the Russian capital, and at least one Russian industrialist hopes that the experimental technology will play a major role in current efforts to re-establish the ancient Silk Road that transported goods between China and Europe.

“Hyperloop” is a term coined by Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk for what is essentially an enormous pneumatic tube system capable of transporting people and goods at high speeds. According to Musk, the Hyperloop would be immune to weather and would be capable of travelling at at least twice the speed of commercial aircraft. Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp (SpaceX) is working on its own Hyperloop concept, but the idea itself has been open sourced, allowing a number of other companies, including Hyperloop One, to attempt their own versions.

Hyperloop One is already working on a proof of concept project in the Nevada desert, but now thanks to a new deal with the government of the city of Moscow, the company could soon launch a major Hyperloop project in Russia. According to Hyperloop One, the deal was signed at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum by Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin, Summa Group chairman Ziyavudin Magomedov and Hyperloop One chairman and cofounder Shervin Pishevar.

“The implementation of Hyperloop technology provides tremendous benefits to the Russian Federation in terms of the geopolitical development of the intracontinental transit potential and building of an economically attractive alternative to the existing global logistics flows,” Magomedov said in a statement. “In the long term Hyperloop could catalyze the development of regional economic integration, including the Eurasian Economic Union and the Chinese initiative ‘One Belt – One Road.’”

Hyperloop One noted in a blog post that Russian transportation minister Maksim Sokolov wants to co-found a 70-kilometer hyperloop route with China that would connect the port city of Zarubino, Russia with China’s Jilin province.

“We have a fund to support the Silk Road projects. I believe that this project may count on 100 percent co-financing from this fund,” Sokolov said.

Elon Musk is under fire for a since-deleted post on X, in which the tech mogul called out Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, for her donations to charities dealing with “issues of race and/or gender.”

“‘Super rich ex-wives who hate their former spouse’ should be listed among ‘Reasons that Western Civilization died’,” Musk, 52, wrote via his social media platform, X, Wednesday before taking it down.

The post was in response to another user’s statement via X , which read, “Who is Bezos’ ex giving money to? According to her fund’s website, over half of the orgs to which she’s donated so far deal with issues of race and/or gender.”

The post continued, “Her fund ought to be called The AWFL Fund. It’s the ultimate aspirational expression of the most awful group in the US.”

A rep for Scott, 53, could not immediately be reached for comment on Musk’s post.

The generous philanthropist — who was married to Bezos from 1993 to 2019 — received a grand settlement reportedly worth more than $38 billion  when the former couple’s  divorce was finalized .

She received a large sum of money after the split in part because she tied the knot with the Amazon CEO before he reached major success with his e-commerce company.

However, Scott pledged in 2019 to donate half her fortune to charity and has made major ground on her promise since.

In October 2022, she donated $84.5 million to the Girl Scouts of the USA — which is not a race or gender-related charity — and, per a January report from Philanthropy News Digest , she donated $4.2 billion in just four months to several other organizations.

Musk has been a vocal adversary of people and companies who support diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), a framework that promotes the “the fair treatment and full participation of all people.”

In January, the Tesla CEO blasted Boeing , the aircraft company, for reportedly using DEI as incentives for executive compensation after previously focusing solely on safety and quality controls.

Musk may also have a bone to pick with anyone who’s once had ties to Bezos, 60, since the billionaire e-commerce mogul replaced the SpaceX founder this week as the world’s richest man .

Musk has not yet addressed the backlash he’s received for his post about Scott.
