EXPEDITION YACHTS FOR SALE

These are the bluewater, transoceanic passagemakers that can be found circling the globe safely, efficiently, and comfortably. Typically full displacement vessels large enough to carry thousands of gallons of fuel and water, these vessels can cruise at speeds up to 10 knots in most seaways and remain untethered to shoreside facilities for months at a time. They are rugged and supremely capable. The best of this breed come from the commercial and military worlds. Inspect the size and quality of the gear on an expedition yacht and that will be obvious.

Search Expedition Yachts by Price

Search expedition yachts by length, search expedition yachts by year, more about used expedition yachts.

These are not production boats, and no two yachts are the same. Each is a custom or semi-custom yacht tailored to the desires and cruising plans of its owners.

Most of these yachts have a single diesel engine in an engine room that is central to the design of the boat, with outstanding access to machinery and systems. Multiple generators supply electrical and hydraulic power as needed, much like a small ship.

The engineering that goes into expedition yachts eliminates single points of failure in all systems, and redundancy is factored into all critical areas. Self-sufficiency is also a key element of the design spiral of an expedition yacht. Unlike most other categories of cruising yachts, the living space elements of the best yachts in this category, such as galley and staterooms, are secondary to the engine room where supreme reliability and accessibility of the machinery and systems is first and foremost.

As a result, most expedition yachts use commercial grade, hydraulic systems for windlass, bow and stern thrusters, stabilizers, and tender cranes for the ultimate performance. All gear is oversized and capable of operating in extreme conditions.

If a trawler is considered an SUV vehicle, think of an expedition yachts as an Earth Roamer, a crossover between a luxury yacht and research vessel. In fact, some expedition yachts do conduct research when they go on a long cruise to remote areas or during a circumnavigation, on marine life, health of reef ecosystems, and the impacts of climate change.

The layout includes a fully outfitted pilothouse like a ship’s bridge, offering the safest place to operate the vessel at sea. The latest and best in communications and navigation electronics are located in the pilothouse, including Class A AIS transponders, satellite phone, and commercial radars. Everything, in fact, that allows the owners to safely remain at sea, or meander through island chains, with enough provisions, fuel, and water to travel non-stop halfway or more around the world.

The expedition yacht is fully insulated to operate in both tropical and extreme latitudes, where it can remain for months. Larger yachts will have a captain and crew, but with today’s technology and systems, owner-operated yachts are found up to 85 feet or so. All expedition yachts are stabilized for comfort at sea.

Builders use steel, aluminum, or fiberglass to build these yachts, and all are classified for open ocean, and many rated for ice, for high latitude exploration.

Luxury accommodations are typically two or three staterooms for owner operated vessels, or more, depending on size, as larger yachts will have crew quarters. Living spaces are well appointed for full-time living aboard with all appliances, entertainment systems, and comforts of home. The galley is most often nicer than one would expect in a luxury townhouse.

These boats can cruise exotic places with little or no outside support, so are equipped with dive compressors and all the water toys and other equipment to explore reefs, uninhabited islands, as well as enjoy the most luxurious European marinas in the Mediterranean. Wreck diving in Truk Lagoon, watching glaciers in Alaska and Greenland, and following in Shackleton’s footsteps are all within the mission statement of the expedition yacht.

Some of the larger yachts in this category carry multiple tenders and the largest expedition yachts may also carry large express boats and even a helicopter for scouting ahead for anchorages or crew transfer.

For adventure that is hard to replicate elsewhere on this planet, while providing the ultimate in luxury living, expedition yachts represent the highest level of comfort, capability, and self-sufficiency.

Expedition Yachts for Sale

expedition yachts for sale

For anyone looking for expedition yachts for sale, these are a quickly-growing market in the yachting world, as increasing numbers of yacht owners choose to get off the beaten track and indulge in some remote cruising! Here is the full current selection of all expedition yachts for sale worldwide with photos and full specifications for each.

Expedition yachts, often called explorer yachts, are extremely versatile. As much at home in the wilds of Alaska as sitting pretty in the glamorous port of Monaco, expedition yachts are built to cross the world’s oceans while offering the extraordinary comfort of a luxury yacht.

The explorer vessel featured above, LEGEND Expedition Yacht For Sale, is a 254-foot or 77m Icon Expedition yacht available for sale. She is the only ice breaking mega yacht in the world. The proven world cruiser features a panorama Jacuzzi on the main deck, large sales throughout, welcoming cocktail bars, Movie theaters, Exclusive Balinese Spa (pictured below) and a gym.

Expedition yachts for sale are also becoming increasingly common options for new-build construction projects, but there are also many existing expedition yachts that have been converted from commercial vessels. As such, often expedition yachts for sale have wonderful histories as research ships, hospital ships, ice-breakers, trawlers and military vessels, and are now enjoying their latest incarnation as impressive luxury yachts.

Often sporting a more functional exterior, the interior of explorer vessels are as palatial and luxurious as their traditional superyacht counterparts. Expedition-style yachts tend to have a wider beam, thereby offering more volume for larger cabins and interior spaces. The yacht’s generous interior spaces are designed for live-aboard comfort for extended periods, and many of these yachts will have living quarters or suites for the owners, rather than smaller cabins.

Outside you’ll find generous open decks with elegant dining and entertaining spaces, with all the luxuries you’d expect on a superyacht.  Jacuzzis, helipads and observation decks are common features found on expedition yachts for sale.

Expedition yachts are sometimes nicknamed ‘toy carriers’, as they have plenty of space to carry the tenders and water sports equipment you’ll want as you cruise exotic places. Explorer yachts for sale often carry crew who are trained as instructors, so you might learn diving, jetski, kitesurfing or even photography while cruising the South Pacific or the Galapagos.

Because they’re built as sturdy ocean-going vessels, expedition yachts are built with a strong focus on safety, self-sufficiency and comfort underway. Some expedition yachts have reinforced ice-breaker hulls for exciting Arctic expeditions, and all have modern stabilization technology and state-of-the-art safety systems. Expedition yachts are built with large fuel tanks giving them exceptional range, while onboard water-makers and excellent cold and dry storage allows them to make long sea voyages without needing to stop for supplies. Because they are built to be away from port for long periods, expedition yachts normally carry the best in communication, entertainment and Wi-Fi capabilities.

Superyacht concept Rex

Revealed: The 127m expedition yacht concept complete with a squash court and submerged Neptune lounge

UK design studio Harrison Eidsgaard has revealed a 127 metre expedition yacht concept named Rex, which comes complete with a helicopter hangar that converts into a squash court.

  • The boldest explorer yacht concepts

Designed for a client who “asked for something different”, Rex features a 20-metre-wide hull, white and grey exterior, and future-proof hybrid propulsion package capable of being converted for hydrogen storage.

Rex's inventory of premium superyacht features include a dedicated helicopter hangar capable of holding an Airbus A160 and converting into a squash court, a second helicopter landing facility and a panoramic lounge with 360-degree views at the top of the yacht.

The 14-metre-long swimming pool, which is located below the helicopter hangar on the main deck, can be enclosed with glass to create an indoor pool for use in colder climates. Elsewhere, the “pod atrium” sits in the 300 square metre aft lounge overlooking the transom and connects the pod lounge to the submerged Neptune lounge, two storey gym and spa.

Accommodation is for a total of 22 guests across a master suite complete with four private terraces, two Jacuzzis and a private gym, and 10 guest suites, each with its own terrace.

The full-beam tender garage has space for a 15-metre expedition vessel and two nine-metre tenders, which can be moored to the walk-around transom aft.

Guest Article: The Rise of Expedition Yachts

expedition yachts international

As the superyacht industry and, superyachts themselves, grow larger, so does the need for new and exciting designs, more on board amenities and the ability for the yacht to travel to each and every corner of the globe.

In the last few years, we have seen an increase in expedition or explorer style yachts, which are distinct in their design and abilities. Expedition yachts have often been built with a particular purpose in mind such as scientific exploration, while others have been converted from commercial vessels into privately owned yachts.

Expedition yachts, while more rugged in design on the exterior, still contain all the luxuries of a superyacht. They feature impressive interior design, a gym, spa, beautiful dining and relaxation areas and a private crew catering to the yacht’s guests, all while being able to embark on extensive long-range passages and reach remote cruising destinations.

The increased interest in expedition style yachts is due to the fact that owners and guests have become curious about the isolated destinations of the world and have the desire to enjoy adventurous, once in a lifetime holiday experiences such as whale watching in Antarctica, going to a famous shipwreck in the yachts very own submarine or visiting the untouched islands of the Galapagos for the incredible diving.

What are some of the key features of an expedition yacht?

Expedition style yachts vastly differ in design from a traditional superyacht because they are designed to be stronger and more robust to handle the conditions in off the beaten track destinations, particularly the polar regions.

Exploring remote areas of the world makes a strong, steel hull the most popular choice for expedition yachts as it can be strengthened in order for the yacht to be certified with ice class, as well as the steel increasing the tonnage of the yacht making additional ballast unnecessary. Steel can also withstand impact better than other hull materials such as aluminium or fibre glass and is easier to repair.

A displacement hull, typically found on explorer yachts, is a round-bottomed hull and allows the vessel to move through the water by pushing the water aside and is designed to cut through the water with very little propulsion. This causes the yacht to be limited to slower speeds. This hull design creates a more fuel-efficient vessel due to the fact that smaller engines with less horsepower are required. An expedition yacht will cruise at hull speed and often have specialised propellers, stabilisers and engines for optimum efficiency.

Other typical design traits of an expedition yacht are larger aft deck space to hold an array of toys and tenders, and a helicopter pad.

Because explorer or expedition yachts travel long distances, they have the need for larger amounts of storage and living space for crew and guests than on a traditional yacht. The yacht needs to be able to store the essential equipment, spare parts and provisions required when on long ocean crossings to ensure the guests and crew have a luxurious and comfortable stay on board. Superyacht charters are typically one week whereas a charter on an expedition yacht can be longer depending on the nature of the charter guests and the length of their exploration project.

Increased space means that the yacht is able to have sufficient holding tanks, which therefore allows the yacht to adhere to the regulations and restrictions about emptying tanks into the ocean in the remote destinations they travel to. The displacement hull, being wide and deep in its design, creates increased interior storage space. They also allow for larger water tanks to hold the fresh water produced on board.

Due to the fact that expedition yachts have large storage space, they also have large fuel tanks, which permits an extended cruising range. This is extremely useful when they are travelling long distances between uninhabited destinations where fuel is not easily obtained. Most yachts measuring over 40 metres in length will have the cruising range of around 3000 nautical miles whereas explorer yachts need to have a range of 5000 nautical miles or more in order to reach their destinations.

Expedition yachts need to be designed in such a way that they can enjoy limitless cruising. Some expedition yachts are fitted with solar panels in order to offset their energy consumption when running things such as lighting or generators, which would ordinarily use fuel.

Because of the fact that expedition yachts are built with steel and often reinforced hulls, they are designed to be stable and withstand unpleasant weather conditions in large offshore seas, therefore making them very safe vessels.

It is also not uncommon for explorer yachts to be fitted with commercial grade safety equipment such as lifeboats and the on-board fire system and equipment. The on-board helicopter pad is also extremely useful in emergency situations.

THE ABILITY TO TRAVEL TO ARCTIC REGIONS

Not all expedition yachts are able to travel to the arctic regions due to the fact that in order to do so, the yacht needs to be assigned an ice-class certification by becoming Polar Code B compliant. Factors which would make the yacht compliant include how robust the hull is and the vessel’s ability to deal with ice in the ocean.

Certified yachts will follow the International Polar Code, which was established in 2017 and provides details and requirements of how a yacht can be designed to receive this certification as well as how to operate when cruising in polar regions, high latitudes and extremely low temperatures.

INCREASED NUMBER OF CREW

Because of the nature and distance that expedition yachts typically travel, more crew are required to run the yacht and serve the guests for longer passages or charters than a typical charter yacht. Specialist crew members are often required such as helicopter pilots, submarine pilots, sports instructors, videographers or specialists depending on the owners and guests’ hobbies, the purpose for which the yacht was built and the destination the yacht is going to visit.

EXTRA EQUIPMENT AND TOYS

Most expedition yachts are fitted with an impressive array of equipment and toys depending on the nature of the expedition and purpose of the yacht. For example, a yacht built for scientific exploration might be fitted with specialise deep sea diving equipment, decompression chambers, personal submarines with 4k cameras, an ROV (remote operated vehicle) or a helicopter to explore the ocean, coastline and wildlife from above.

Expedition yachts will host a vast amount of gear and gadgets for terrain exploration, some even have sailing yachts on board. They will also be fitted with tenders, snorkelling equipment, surf boards, jet skis, landing crafts to transport quads and bikes, sea bobs and inflatables to enjoy water sports activities.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE DESTINATIONS AN EXPEDITION YACHT CAN VISIT?

Superyachts travel to many corners of the globe but as we can see, expedition yachts are designed to go just a bit further. Destinations include Antarctica, The fjords of Norway and secluded paradise islands in the South Pacific.

Expedition yachts have also been known to visit Greenland, Iceland, The Falkland Islands, Patagonia, The Galapagos islands and Alaska as well as fitting in superyacht hotspots such as Monaco, St Barts and Croatia to their busy schedules.

Some well-known expedition yachts include Ulysses, a 116-metre yacht built in 2018 which has an impressive assortment of toys and equipment including a helicopter hanger on the top deck, a helicopter and a fleet of speedy tenders including a 21-metre Princess 68. Ulysses is able to accommodate up to 66 guests.

M/Y Octopus is one of the most well-known explorer style yachts, which was built in Germany in 2003. Her original owner was the late Paul Allen, one of the founders of Microsoft. Octopus has the facilities for two helicopters, with heli pads on the aft and fore decks as well as a hanger on the aft deck to house the helicopter in rough seas.

Paul Allen and the crew of M/Y Octopus used the yacht as the platform to search for a sunken ship. This search took eight years and in 2015, they finally discovered the wreck of Japanese ship Musahi, which sunk during World War 2.

The impressive M/Y Luna, a 114-metre Lloyd Werft yacht launched in 2010, was originally built for Chelsea Football club owner and Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Her swimming pool made headlines for being the largest ever seen on a superyacht at the time of her delivery. She also features two tender garages, a gym and expansive beach club wrapping around a spa. Luna is ice-classed allowing her to travel to the polar regions as well as enjoying summers in the Cote d’Azur.

Are expedition style yachts the future of yachting? Why not visit untouched corners of the globe, fly over Alaska in your private helicopter or go to the depths of the ocean in a submersible submarine to discover unseen marine life? Owners may have visited the Monte Carlo Casino, been diving in the Seychelles or sipped a Pina Colada in the Caribbean but very few can say that they have explored the ice sheets in the North and South Pole.

We can definitely see why more and more owners would be enticed to buy or build a yacht with these capabilities and limitless travel opportunities. Expedition yachts are certainly taking the experience of the superyacht lifestyle to the next level.

New Flagship for Bering Yachts: The B165

  • By Yachting Staff
  • March 19, 2024

Bering 165

Bering Yachts , known for its steel expedition-style trawler yachts, introduced a new flagship B165 explorer yacht at the Dubai International Boat Show.

“She keeps all the ruggedness, stability, range and all-weather capability while representing a Mediterranean and Caribbean approach to life: easygoing, relaxed and full of comfort,” the company stated in a press release. “You are still traveling in your home, but with so much more open space and fresh air that the onboard life becomes a full-circle indoor and outdoor experience.”

The shipyard describes the B165 as “Bering to the bone, but with a luxury twist.” On the main deck’s elongated after section, there’s a swimming pool surrounded by sunbeds. Folding bulwarks can expand this relaxation even more, and the pool can be covered for use as stowage for water toys and other equipment. There’s also space here for two tenders.

Inside on the main deck are dining and lounging areas, along with two VIP staterooms. An additional room at the bow can be outfitted as a guest stateroom, or as an onboard cinema.

Bering 165

The owners’ deck has more than 750 square feet of space, including a sleeping area, a head, and a lounge with a bar, table and seating. An open space aft on the owners’ deck has a table for alfresco dining, while at the bow, there’s a hot tub and a lounge. Crew have access to a private service room for preparing and serving meals, with a dumbwaiter that connects to a similar service area on the main deck, and to the galley on the lower deck.

Also on the lower deck are three guest staterooms, four cabins to accommodate eight crew, and a crew mess. An additional cabin on this deck can be used for supernumeraries such as nannies, guides and masseurs.

Up on the bridge deck, there’s a lounge with a bar, an outdoor cinema, a day head and a firepit. The captain’s quarters are here as well.

Above that deck is a crow’s nest with a hardtop where guests can have an unobstructed 360-degree view of the yacht’s surroundings.

Bering 165

Eco-friendly design is also inherent in the Bering 165, according to company founder Alexei Mikhailov: “We are building responsibly. Designing a large engine room, we definitely had alternative energy solutions in mind. There is plenty of space to accommodate hybrid applications and install a big battery bank.”

Power for the 499-gross-ton vessel will be twin 1,300-horsepower Caterpillar C32 engines, with a reported cruise speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 15 knots. Fuel capacity is nearly 18,500 gallons, which the team at Bering says gives the B165 a range of more than 4,000 nautical miles. ABT-Trac systems are installed for guest comfort.

Does the Bering Yachts B165 have a steel hull? Yes, with an aluminum superstructure.

EXPEDITION SUPERYACHT LA DATCHA

expedition yachts international

THE ULTIMATE EXPRESSION OF THE MODERN-DAY SUPER YACHT

Part of the renowned, EYOS-designed SeaXplorer series, she is the ultimate expression of the modern day expedition superyacht.

A NEW ERA OF EXPEDITION YACHT

expedition yachts international

Part of the renowned SeaXplorer series, she was delivered in 2020 and ushered in a new era in expedition yachting. As design partners with Damen Yachting and Azure , EYOS was instrumental in developing La Datcha and the rest of the SeaXplorer range from the first lines drawn on paper. EYOS contributed over 150 design criteria based on its combined decades of expedition experience. A forward observation lounge and deck, for instance, allows for epic sightings of polar bears or bow-riding dolphins. Increased fuel and provisions capability- up to 40 days- allows for extended expeditions well away from supporting infrastructure. Bridge wings extend over the side of the hull to allow better visibility during ice navigation.

Ragnar

Following last year’s blowout season and a sustained demand for seclusion in the Covid era, the charter industry is looking beyond the Med to a new destination: the ends of the Earth.

Take the expedition yacht Ragnar (pictured above), which will explore sections of Iceland and Greenland with a focus on adventure. Converted from a supply vessel in 2020, the 224-footer comes with Jet Skis, Seabobs and a BigBo amphibious ATV you can use to land on pristine tundra. Available from Burgess Yachts from $525,000 per week, Ragnar has a wood-clad interior—featuring a double master suite, fireplaces, a spa and an observation lounge—that is pure, elegant warmth, while her top-deck Jacuzzi is ideal for soaking beneath the stars as you cruise Iceland’s fjords. Want to heli-ski Greenland’s untouched early-summer slopes? A helipad gives you the option.

Also from Burgess , following a 2020 refit, Lady E will cruise the Galápagos Islands, from $595,000 per week. The 244-footer’s list of toys includes a flyboard, eFoils and sailing dinghies, meaning guests can kayak with dolphins or snorkel with seals; for divers, the famous Gordon Rocks site offers encounters with multiple species of shark. As a bonus, the yacht’s newly extended beach club and wellness area are ideal for a post-adventure sauna and massage.

Dunia Baru

Meanwhile, the 167-foot, two-masted sailing vessel Dunia Baru will spend her summer in Indonesia. Expert-led trips range from observing Komodo dragons in their natural habitats to snorkeling the coral reefs of Raja Ampat. The beautiful hull of Dunia Baru , available from Y.CO from $120,000 per week, is crafted from traditional Bornean ironwood and teak, while her newly redesigned interior includes a master suite with a private deck and open-air salon.

Flying Fox

Flying Fox.  Guillaume Plisson

For a more traditional route, the head-turning, 446-foot Flying Fox will roam the Côte d’Azur, the Italian Riviera, Sardinia, Corsica and Turkey. The world’s largest charter vessel, offered by Imperial from about $4 million per week, has 11 staterooms for up to 25 guests and was designed around the owner’s twin passions for wellness and water sports. Her two-level spa, with heated limestone floors, is equipped with a Cryosauna, beauty salon and hammam, plus a Jacuzzi pool that changes from warm to icy-cold in mere minutes. A dedicated scuba center means wreck-diving in Sardinia is an option, while nine tenders and the option of a helicopter put Corsican mountains and ancient Turkish ruins within reach.

Are you up for an adventure? Many euro-built yacht owners and sailboat enthusiasts are now turning to expedition yachts to satisfy their need for long-distance cruising. Whether spending weeks exploring the Caribbean or cruising the countless islands of the Pacific Northwest, most expedition yacht builders focus on comfort and seaworthiness first and foremost. These are not boats that will exceed 30 knots, but rather are meant to cruise in the 8-12 knot range while burning very little fuel. Cutting-edge construction techniques like infusion with high-quality resin, have allowed these explorer boats to become lighter without losing durability. United Yacht Sales has expert brokers on staff that have sold many expedition yachts and would be happy to represent you in the purchase or sale of your next boat.

SEARCH ALL YACHTS

Expedition Yachts vary in materials just like they do in design. Do you want full displacement or semi-displacement? Would you rather have a steel, composite, or aluminum hull? And most importantly, what type of range do you require for your anticipated cruising plans? These are all questions that a professional United Yacht broker can assist you with.

Below are some of the prominent expedition yacht brands available today :

  • Hampton Yachts
  • Hampton Endurance Yachts
  • Lurssen Yachts
  • Marlow Yachts
  • Nordhavn Yachts
  • President Yachts

While some explorer yacht builders use steel for their hull, some believe aluminum may be thebetter choice in the case of weight reduction, higher performance speed, better fuel consumption and seaworthiness.

The expedition yacht requires lots of crew space. Expert crew members are typically needed for long-range expeditions. An excellent example - the 26 meter Octopus, is well-known as the world’s largest explorer yacht and boasts an enormous crew of 50! However most owner/operators and couples wanting to cruise tend to buy a yacht that is easily managed. Now with many yachts having joystick controls and bow thrusters, the ease of handling has improved substantially.

The expedition will be taking its owners and guests to remote and exotic destinations so a full line-up of tenders and toys is a must. Look for seaplanes, helicopters, and sportfish yachts! The whole gamut. Ulysses, the 107.4 meter line-up is beyond awesome, with six motorbikes, a landing craft, an amphibious tender in its garage, not to mention a 21-metre, 50-knot catamaran support boat that can be hoisted off the foredeck by a pair of custom-designed cranes!!!

Many boating enthusiasts feel that explorer yachts are at their best measuring in at least at 40 meters long to carry all the essentials. Cantiere Delle Marche has been highly successful in building compact expeditions. This Italian builder has manufactured these ‘minis’ in the size range of 25 meters to its 33.4 meter Narvalo, created and born to cruise with the narwhals she was named after.

Want to test if a yacht is, indeed, an expedition yacht, then just zero in on the details of her maximum cruising range which translates to the distance it can travel without making a fuel stop. The majority of the yachts 40 meters and up usually have a transatlantic cruising range of around 3,000 nautical miles, but there are some exceptional expedition builds are set up to have an even longer range. And her long distance speed ranks in between 10 to 12 knots.” Ice, the extraordinary 90 meter Lürssen yacht is a prime example being able to cruise up to 6,000 nautical miles at 15 knots and never needing to make a fuel stop!

The best shoppers will also want to consider the expeditions in questions emissions control, deep storage, and extreme maneuverability.

The mission profile for building an expedition yacht can be for any (or a combination) of the following…entire family reunion exploration, worldwide big game or fly fishing, remote dive expedition, the urge to check out unique and different cruising areas, a feeling of freedom while cruising, or several other reasons.

Since they were built to handle the roughest voyage conditions, safety and comfort of the owners, guests and crew must be the focus of the engineering and buying criteria . An expedition yacht needs possess an extremely efficient and sea-kindly hull. To meet this, the vessel should be a full displacement hull combined with excellent fuel capacity to reach at least a 4000nm range at 10 knots. Of course, the latest in high efficiency propulsion and energy systems, ensuring there are new batteries, chargers and converters, is necessary.

The entire exterior and interior of the vessel you decide on must be a piece of cake to maintain. This makes a key difference between many long range yachts and trawlers being built and one that you can call your own. Another idea when choosing the best expedition yacht is to know you can give it a new look, such as a white yacht, by replacing teak rails or decking with stainless or the latest in deck systems (i.e. Stone Decking). Since these yachts make thousands of miles a year, the up keep and standard of materials and systems is most important to help with all upkeep.

Finally, the engine room is another factor of crucial importance. Ensure that proven high wear equipment is used throughout and that it is a large, well laid out engine room designed to be easy for the crew to tend to. The goal is for any engineer hired will walk in and add a smile to his face!

Follow these tips and a smile will be eternally on yours too as the proud owner of a quality expedition yacht!

Time for a bigger boat? Check out what the Palm Beach International Boat Show has to offer

expedition yachts international

Whether you're the son of a son of a sailor or even just love that song and want to know more, the granddaddy of all boating events is happening this weekend along the West Palm Beach waterfront.

That's right, the Palm Beach International Boat Show is back for four glorious days along Flagler Drive.

This will be the 42nd annual event, and organizers promise it will be bigger and better than ever.

There will be $1.2 billion worth of Bond-worthy super yachts, cruisers, sportfishing boats, center consoles and even inflatables to see and tour, along with attractions and activities highlighting the latest in boat engines, motors and accessories. There will also be the latest fishing gear and even fishing seminars.

Yes, it's a big event, but don't be intimidated. In fact, here are seven fun facts about the show:

How many boats can this boat show boast?

There will be more than 800 boats on display along the floating docks in the Intracoastal Waterway.

What is the biggest boat at the boat show?

With a length of 236 feet (and 38 feet wide), Casino Royale takes the title for largest boat this year. This gorgeous yacht, designed for her exterior lines by Francesco Paszkowski with interior by Paszkowski’s interior lead designer Margherita Casprini, is also one of the most technically advanced yachts in her category. Casino Royale is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516B main engines and has an impressive top speed of 17.5 knots. You can put your checkbooks away for this one, however, as she is only on display and not for sale.

This boat is the boat show's most epensive

Built in 2022 and 196-feet long, Come Together is listed for $59,950,000. This expedition yacht was delivered by the Dutch shipyard Amels and features interior styling by British designer Winch Design. It can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in six cabins along with 14 crew members.

Are spectators allowed to go on the boats?

To go onboard the yachts and superyachts, visitors must make an appointment with the brokers. For the smaller boats, however, spectators can come onboard if they are interested in buying.

What is the smallest boat?

The smallest boat being displayed on the water is a runabout boat that is 22-feet-6-inches long, and 5-feet-11 wide. It is manufactured by Hermes.

Eating inside the boat show

The show will have dozens of food concessions featuring almost anything you could be craving, from Greek gyros to woodfired picanha, authentic street tacos and hand-crafted burgers. On a seafood diet? Enjoy fresh stone crab claws, calamari, oysters, and much more! Vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten-free? No problem; they have options for you as well.

And libations at the boat show?

Of course there will be drinks. To be precise, there will be four bars for general admission guests, including two floating cocktail barges: the Goslings Island Bar and the Anheuser-Busch Barge. In addition there will be multiple bars in the Windward VIP Club.

What: Palm Beach International Boat Show

Where: Downtown West Palm Beach along Flagler Drive from Banyan Boulevard south to Lakeview Avenue
