On deck, the main cockpit is split into two areas, one with easy seating around a circular coffee table, whilst the other provides a dining area. Both can comfortably sit up to eight people. For relaxation, a large cushioned sunbathing area is in position immediately behind the shaded cockpit. This is a favourite spot to watch the world as you sail by.

Down below, NORFOLK STAR's bright upper salon has a large L-shaped sofa around a coffee table and a forward facing desk, with panoramic views. Her interior is finished in cherry wood, and the large hull portholes give the interior a particularly light and airy feel. From the upper salon a large stairway forward shows the way to the main salon. There are two sofas and a more formal dining area in the main salon which features an extendable walnut table.

This yacht offers a family-friendly layout with accommodation for six guests. On the lower deck, the full-width private master stateroom is found aft. Here you find a generous, glamorous space with walk-in wardrobe, en suite bathroom with a full bath, plus a seperate study area. Next door are two twin cabins that sleep another four guests. There is no compromise in comfort, as each cabin comes with an en suite shower room. There is also the option of an additional pullman berth for an extra guest.

Once aboard, NORFOLK STAR looks after her guests with Samsung LED TVs, and Creston Control AV System. At anchor, the swimming platform drops into place on the starboard side, and all the water toys come out - there's something for everyone to have fun, from paddle boards and flight boards. This yacht was built in 1969, but a 2015 refit ensures her modern luxuries and electronics. The cockpit motor yacht’s recently refitted interior is a bright space that showcases a classic styling with an understated nautical theme. The interior is adorned with beautifully crafted satin finished teak joinery and charming, comfortable furnishings. NORDIC STAR features a cozy salon that is ideal for relaxing and socializing with friends. Just forward of the salon is a formal dining and further forward is a well-equipped, updated galley with stainless steel countertops and dual sinks.

NORDIC STAR welcomes up to six guests in the comfort of three well-appointed staterooms. The luxury yacht showcases an amidships full-beam master suite with an en-suite bathroom with a shower. Located aft of the master are two twin bed staterooms with en-suite bathrooms. NORDIC STAR also has accommodations for four crewmembers forward. The crew quarters consist of a galley/lounge area, a captain’s cabin and a crew cabin with three berths. There is an additional crew berth located in the crew’s lounge.

This luxury classic motor yacht showcases lovely outdoor living areas for guest enjoyment. NORDIC STAR features a large covered aft deck with two teak hi-lo tables and two built-in settees that make the space perfect for alfresco dining with friends. In 2019, a Strataglass enclosure was installed to allow the space to be enjoyed on cooler days. Forward, the foredeck houses the yacht’s two RIB tenders. NORDIC STAR features a three stateroom layout plus crew quarters for up to five. The recently refitted interior features classic styling consistent with the timeless lines of the yacht. A fixture in Newport Beach for over 50 years, NORDIC STAR was designed by famous naval architect Jack Hargrave and built in 1969 at Lantana Boatyard in Florida. Upon delivery, she was shipped to the West Coast, where she has remained ever since.

NORDIC STAR underwent a major refit in 2014/2015 under the current ownership. In addition to a completely new interior, galley equipment, davit system, two RIB tenders, Furuno electronics and necessary safety upgrades in order to obtain a Coastwise Certificate of Inspection for up to 50 passengers.

A true classic, NORDIC STAR must be seen to be fully appreciated.

The bilge system is operated by 2 electrically driven centrifugal pumps and 2Bilge ejectors. The centrifugal pumps are also used as fire and ballast pumps. The pressure side of the bilge ejector can also be operated by each fire pump. The suction lines of the bilge ejectors are connected to the bilge main. Each watertight compartment has a suction strum box to the bilge main. Additionally, the engine room is fitted with two direct suctions from the suction side of the fire/bilge pumps, and one emergency suction from one chilled water pump. One ejector is installed for draining chain locker and fore peak.

ACCOMMODATION

5+1 convertible from Massage room.

Access to the sundeck is via an exterior staircase on the port side from the bridge deck. Forward are two circular sunbathing pads. There is an outdoor cinema screen with a projector and a surround sound system. Forward of the mast there is a glass bar with stools, and full wet bar service station portside with built in electric BBQ. In the center of the deck is a large sunbed area and split coffee or dining table. Retractable sliding sunroofs are in the hardtop. The stack also houses the emergency generator.

Bridge Deck

The bridge has great visibility due to the reverse angle bridge windows and the full walk-around wing controls port and starboard. In addition to the two helm seats, there are two settees with coffee tables, ideal for guests wanting to visit the bridge whilst in navigation. Aft of the bridge to starboard is the ship’s office, which then leads into the captain’s study and further aft into the captain’s cabin. A convenient and discreet door leads into the crew stairs that service all decks down to the tank deck. A day head is conveniently located in the lobby area.

Aft of the bridge is the bridge deck lobby with the elevator, which services all decks down to the tank deck.The guest stairway is also off this lobby. Aft is the gym, which boasts floor to ceiling windows port and starboard. The gym is currently equipped with a “Techno Gym” cross trainer, static bike, tread mill, as well as a wall-mounted “Technogym Kinesis” and an array of free weights and bench.

Aft doors lead onto the aft bridge deck or “Jacuzzi deck”, which is partially covered; this aft section is equipped with awnings. The large 6 person Jacuzzi is fitted aft, with a bar and stools located starboard side. A shower and small wet bar/service station positioned on the starboard side, whilst on the port side is a day head. Two sun pads lay either side of the jacuzzi, perfect for lounging.

Owner’s Deck

On the bow is the working area with mooring cleats and the anchor windlass. Aft of this is the rescue tender and crane.

Aft of this are two cozy seating areas with bench seats as well as tables for the Owner’s use. These exterior areas are accessed from either side of the Master suite using the deck doors from the beautiful panoramic Owner’s suite, which boasts a 180° view via reverse-angled bridge-style windows. The king bed faces forward on the centerline of the vessel. Aft of this are two en-suite bathrooms, a his and hers, complete with dressing room, beautifully fitted out in polished marble. Full length hanging wardrobes are included, as well as the normal storage found in a dressing room.

Aft of the Owner’s suite is the Owner’s Office, fitted with a beautiful L shaped leather inlay desk. Off the office lies the guest stairway, elevator and day head, with a service door accessing crew stairway. On the starboard side there is a deck door to access the Owner’s deck area. Aft of this is the doorway into the Owner’s lounge. A comfortable “L” Shaped sofa and a further port side sofa offer comfortable and relaxed seating. A discreet davenport is situated to port facing out through the large side windows, which are a feature on both sides of the lounge. Center of the room there is a large smart TV, located above a decorative fireplace that, together with the driftwood floors and the lovely choice of fabrics, makes for an extremely cozy and informal atmosphere. This lounge can be serviced via the service pantry, which has separate access along with the crew stairway to ensure the finest and most discreet service.

Aft doors lead out onto the upper aft deck or “Dining Deck”. This vast entertaining deck is one of the principals and most used areas of the yacht. A central dining table that seats 12 is the center of attraction, whilst flanked on the port side by a semi-circular wet bar complete with bar stools and marbletopped cabinet used to layout the most lavish buffets and to mix the most exotic cocktails. This houses a double drawer fridge and undercounter wine fridge. To starboard there is a small circular table, enabling a small party to dine intimately, or for cards and gaming. Aft of this is another cabinet perfect for larger buffets. The aft area of the deck is not covered; however, it is equipped with 2 awnings providing plenty of shade. There is further seating aft as well as a coffee table both port and starboard. There are two recessed skylights on each side, letting in natural daylight to the covered areas. In addition to this, there are doors forward to allow guests to shut off the side decks in order to reduce wind, which can be further reduced by sliding the side glass windows. This space can also be cooled using the water mist system installed over the dinning and bar, making this deck a true “indoor/outdoor area”.

A generous passageway gives access to the guest suites, all of which benefit from large windows, iPod docks, iPad controls and safes.

Cabin 4 is forward to starboard with a king bed, leather drawers and desk with vanity. There is good closet space and a 40-inch TV mounted forward. The bathroom is forward with bathtub, WC and basin, and the floor and countertops are finished in polished marble.

Cabin 2 is adjacent on the port side fully furnished as a children cabin with 2 sets of bunks sleeping 4. This Vcabin allows for plenty of natural daylight and has a 40-inch TV for guest entertainment mounted inboard. Once again, there is plenty of closet space. The en-suite is forward and features a large walk-in cubicle shower, WC and sink. Both the flooring and countertops are finished in polished marble.

Cabin 3 is just aft to starboard and boasts a king bed, forward of which is a desk with leather inlay. There is ample hanging space and once again, this cabin is flooded with daylight. The 40-inch TV is mounted on the forward bulkhead. The en-suite bathroom has a shower, WC and sink, and both the flooring and countertops are in polished marble.

Cabin 1 is adjacent on the port side and boasts a king bed, forward of which is a dresser and desk with leather inlay. There is ample hanging space in a double wardrobe and once again, this cabin is flooded with daylight. The 40- inch TV is mounted on the forward bulkhead. The en-suite bathroom has a shower, WC and sink, and both the flooring and countertops are in polished marble.

Forward of the guest suite is the passageway with a discreet door leading into the crew staircase. Just aft of this is the main guest staircase that leads all the way up to the Owner’s deck, bridge deck and sundeck.

Aft of the guest passageway leads into the Main Salon. To starboard is a cozy seating area with a Hi-Lo 64-inch TV built into a cabinet. In the forward starboard corner of the salon area is a doorway that leads into the Spa, Massage Room. This room with soft furnishings is equipped with an Oak works massage table, for optimum comfort and relaxation. With a fully fitted bathroom with stall shower, WC and sink, all finished in rich polished marble, making this a calming space for guest to retreat in.

On the port side of the main salon is the Bar area with a large onyx bar with 5 bar stools for evening cocktails or casual dinner. Large storage cabinets located aft for all glassware and table services. Forward of the bar area is a discreet door that leads into the main deck pantry, which also has direct access to the crew stairway. This pantry is fully equipped with a sink, microwave, fridge and ice maker, with great countertop space to ensure efficient service.

Aft doors from the salon lead out to the aft deck area. To both sides, the staircases lead up to the upper dining deck. In the alcove is a discreet day head. Both port and starboard sides have a gate installed that can be opened and fitted with the Marquip side boarding ladder. A central passageway leads to the lower aft deck, which is fitted out with large guest seating areas to port and starboard that both have coffee tables and is an ideal area to have sundowners close to the water. The central stairs lead down to the large bathing platform, giving easy access to the water and indeed to and from the tenders. A transom door leads into a beach club area with shower and sauna for guests to enjoy. The water sports equipment is also stored in here.

There is a large hydraulic boarding gangway on the aft port quarter, which can service both portside-to or stern-to berthing.

Star Class History

Dozens, probably hundreds, of classes of racing sailboats have come into existence, lasted a few years, and then dropped out of the yacht racing picture. How does it happen that one class, the International Star, designed in the early 1900s is thriving and is raced today on all levels and in dozens of countries of the world? There is no single answer to this question. Many factors have contributed and still contribute to the phenomenal success and long life of the Star.

If you were to ask a top flight racing skipper why he sails Stars he might tell you that he likes the "high performance" qualities of the boat as a superb racing machine. Or he might point to the calibre of the competition, not only on the World Championship and Olympic level but in many lesser events. The skipper and crew who enjoy a varied program of sailing in different localities would emphasize the quantity and quality of intersectional Star events available all over the world. The Star sailor who never travels, on the other hand, would tell you what fine racing he has at home year after year. The major Class officers, those dedicated souls who have to do with running the organization, meeting and solving the multitude of problems that arise in a class of this magnitude, would tell you that the I.S.C.Y.R.A., the Class Association, is the force that holds the Class together and also the power plant that drives it. And every one of these people, all of whom are members of the Star Class, would emphasize the bond of fellowship that exists world-wide among Star owners and sailors.

A pack of killer whales sank a 50-foot yacht in Moroccan waters Sunday when the massive sea mammals slammed into the vessel and forced two sailors aboard to flee, officials said.

Spanish authorities said the crew members were rescued by a passing oil tanker that was alerted to the desperate situation after the boat sprang a leak during the orca encounter in the Strait of Gibraltar.

The two people were customers, and the vessel belonged to Spanish company Alboran Charter, according to the Washington Post .  

The yacht, which was 14 miles from the Cape Spartel coast, later sunk to the bottom of the ocean in the latest orca attack that has prompted experts to warn other sailors of danger in the area.

Last October, a Polish tour agency’s yacht was relentlessly hit by a herd of orcas for 45 minutes that led to “major damage and leakage,” the agency said. The boat ended up sinking.

Orcas also interfered with a sailing race last year when a boat traveling from the Netherlands to Italy had a 15-minute showdown with the animals. The crew was forced to drop its sails and make a ruckus to repel them.

Since 2020, hundreds of boats sailing in waters near Spain, Morocco and Portugal have encountered at least 15 orcas that led to some of the vessels sinking, the Washington Post reported.

Spain’s ministries for transport and the environment warned sailors of sailing boats and small motorboats that orca activity is at its peak between May and August between the Strait of Gibraltar and the Gulf of Cadiz. Officials encouraged boaters to sail near the coast.

A team of Spanish and Portuguese marine life scientists, called the Atlantic Orca Working Group, said there were 197 interactions between boats and killer whales in 2021 and 207 more in 2022.

Boat fitting description of 15-year-old girl killed in Florida hit-and-run located, victim identified

Authorities on Tuesday continued to search for the person who fatally struck a girl with a boat as she waterskied in South Florida over the weekend and identified the victim as 15-year-old Ella Adler from Miami Beach.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officials also announced officers had found a vessel that matches the boat witnesses said struck the girl Saturday.

"FWC officers have identified a vessel that fits the description and it is in their custody," a statement released by the agency reads. "The owner of the vessel is cooperating with the investigation."

The fatal crash took place in waters off Key Biscayne.

According to a preliminary investigation by the FWC, Ella fell in the ocean near Nixon Beach while being towed about a mile from shore and was struck by another vessel at 4:30 p.m.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Ella Adler during this incredibly difficult time," Arielle Callender, a FWC spokesperson, told USA TODAY Tuesday.

The beach is in Miami-Dade County about 7 miles south of downtown Miami.

While waiting to be recovered by her boat, another vessel struck her and fled the scene, officials said. Ella, who wore a life jacket, died from her injuries.

Officials with FWC described the vessel that struck as a center console boat with a light blue hull with multiple white outboard engines and may have blue or dark blue bottom paint.

That boat did not stop and was last seen heading west from Nixon Beach, the FWC reported early Tuesday.

"The FWC and its officers have called in additional resources from other parts of the state and have worked around the clock to find the vessel involved in the accident," FWC Chairman Rodney Barreto released in a statement Tuesday after the suspect vessel was located.

Officials did not say whether anyone had been arrested or charged in connection to the fatal hit-and-run as of Tuesday.

They also did not say where or when they located the suspect vessel.

"While significant progress has been made, this investigation remains open," the statement reads.

Barreto said the agency continues to ask the public for help in the investigation.

'A star ... a force of nature'

Ella's obituary described the girl as a star.

"She was a force of nature, and when she was near, everyone felt a gravitational pull toward her," it reads.

"We are heartbroken as we say goodbye to our beautiful niece, Ella," the girl's aunt, Cristina Mas Adler, of Coral Gables, posted in a tribute Monday on Facebook. "She brought so much joy, laughter, and love into our lives. I love you Ella Bella."

 "She loved to dance, she loved her friends, and most of all she loved her family," her obituary reads. "Ella was proud to be Jewish and was a member of the Ransom Everglades Jewish Students Association. She was the great-granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. She loved Israel and came from a long line of Jewish leaders with a strong commitment to faith and tikkun olam. She wore her identity proudly and loudly, just like her parents."

Ella is survived by her parents, Amanda and Matthew Adler, and her younger siblings Jaden and Adalynn, and many other relatives.

Ella, a ballerina, attended Ransom Everglades School in Miami.

"We are heartbroken," the school, where Adler studied, posted on Facebook. "Ella Adler '27 shined in our classrooms and on our stages, and she embodied the mission of Ransom Everglades School. We wish peace and comfort to her family."

$20,000 reward being offered for info leading to suspect's arrest

A $20,000 reward − $10,000 from Ella's family and a combined $10,000 from FWC and Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers − is being offered for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of the hit-and-run suspect.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact those agencies.
