What If the Weather Is Bad?

Our policy states that our yacht rentals will not be canceled based on the weather forecast. They can only be canceled by the captain if they deem that the weather presents a safety hazard. In most cases, this means simply waiting out a patch of bad weather in favor of some good weather afterward. 

However, if the weather does get bad enough to warrant a full cancellation, we can reschedule your rental. To do this, we’ll issue you a voucher that you can use to book a rental of the same or less cost within 365 days.

We understand not everyone has their sea-legs so if anyone tends to get motion sick or seasick, or if you aren’t sure, we recommend planning ahead and choosing a remedy you’re comfortable with before you board. A quick google search will help you understand the options; pills, patches, homeopathic, etc.

Your captain has full authority over the route and destination based on the conditions. While uncommon there are instances where weather and sea conditions may prevent the charter from sticking to the planned itinerary. If the weather or sea conditions are extreme, the captain will decide if it is unsafe to proceed and we will work with you to reschedule for another available day.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

NO.  Just below your seats are 350 gallons of diesel fuel, plus we want to keep the boat nice for a long time to come, and burn holes are hard to repair.  You can vape responsibly.

Late Arrivals: The City controls Dock 55 for loading and unloading passengers. We have to arrange times in advance with a 15 minute time-slot with the city for our pick-ups and drop-offs. If you’re late it will count against your time.

Cancellation Policy:

Your deposit reserves the boat, a captain, a crew member and the county dock. 

If a charter is canceled within 7 days of the charter date or no cancellation received, the full deposit is forfeited by the client.  

Any cancellation greater than 7 days from the charter date will be subject to a $250 cancellation fee to cover expenses of pre-paying the county dock, the credit card transaction fee, committing to captain and crew member, and administrative fees. The balance will be returned to you within 7 days.

This security deposit is necessary for damages or excessive messes that require additional or professional cleaning. For example: Upholstery tears, carpet stains, bodily fluid clean up.

Outsourced cleaning or repairs will be billed for the amount to repair + 15% Service fee

Additional/excessive cleanup ie. bodily fluid (non-outsourced) $250 fee

Parking is a little tricky in this part of the Marina so I would recommend coming earlier than planned to find a lot or street parking or be willing to pay for valet at the Courtyard Marriot.

New California laws in effect July 1: Hidden fee ban, lower rental deposits

SAN FRANCISCO -- If you ever thought you had a good deal on an Airbnb and then discovered a bunch of hidden fees during checkout, a new state law makes hiding those junk charges illegal.

That's just one of many laws taking effect July 1, 2024 in California.

Here's what is changing:

RIGHT TO REPAIR

SB 244 : It's going to be easier and cheaper to get your iPhone fixed. The Right to Repair Act requires manufacturers to provide consumers and repair shops with the parts, tools and documentation needed to service or repair the device. The law affects home appliances and electronic devices like televisions, audio and video recording equipment and cellphones that cost at least $50.

HIDDEN FEES

SB 478 : Makes it illegal for businesses to advertise a price for an item and then add hidden fees at the time of purchase. The price transparency law requires businesses, restaurants, websites and apps to display the true cost of an item or service, such as lodging, tickets for live events and food delivery fees. Businesses do not have to include taxes and shipping costs. A bill (SB 1524) still being considered would allow restaurants to list extra fees as a separate item on their menus instead of on the food price.

SHORT-TERM RENTALS

AB 537 : Requires hotels, motels and short-term rentals on Airbnb and Vrbo to disclose the total price of a rental in their advertised rate, including cleaning fees and other charges. Taxes and governments charges do not have to be included in the rate. The law imposes a $10,000 penalty for not disclosing the true cost of the rental.

RENTAL DEPOSIT

AB 12 : Any new rental contracts for housing signed after July 1 will only require one month's security deposit. Existing rental agreements that required larger deposits are not affected. Landlords can still seek additional fees at the end of a lease if there is damage that exceeds one month's deposit.

NO ROOFIES LAW

AB 1013 : Requires businesses that sell alcohol for consumption in their premises to sell or give away date-rape testing kits to customers. Bars and nightclubs must also post signage in their business informing customers that the drug testing kits are available. Businesses will be required to obtain their own kits.

SODIUM NITRATE

Prohibiting online marketplaces from selling sodium nitrite to anyone under the age of 18. Stores would be required to verify the age of the person purchasing the chemical. A companion law (AB 1210) limits the sale of products with a concentration of sodium nitrite to no greater than 10%. Known as Tyler's Law, AB 1109 addresses the escalating issue of teen suicides.

AB 1403 : Mandates that the State Fire Marshall identify and evaluate methods to gather data on fires, injuries and damages caused by illegal fireworks and safe and sane fireworks. The goal is to train law enforcement and fire personnel on seizing, transporting and storing fireworks, and prosecution of those caught with illegal fireworks.

The law doubled fines for illegal fireworks starting in January of 2024.

FIREARMS TAX

AB 28: Imposes an 11% tax on the sale of firearms and ammunition. The money generated will fund gun violence prevention and school safety programs. California is the first state to implement such a law.

PERSONAL CAR SHARING

AB 893: Requires individuals who rent out their vehicle using peer to peer third party platforms like Turo or Getaround to pay the same tourism fees and taxes as traditional car rental companies.

VEHICLE REGISTRATION

AB 256 : Prohibits police from stopping a vehicle solely because the license plate registration has expired, unless at least a month has passed since the original month of expiration. Law enforcement can cite a vehicle with expired tags if the vehicle was stopped for another violation.

MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS

AB 230 : Requires public and charters schools with students from grades three and up to provide free menstrual products in their bathrooms. Expands a previous California law that required menstrual products starting in the sixth grade.

SCHOOL ATHLETICS

AB 245 : Requires high school sports coaches, who already receive training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, to receive training in recognizing and responding to signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest. It will also require certification in the use of external defibrillators.

'WILLFUL DEFIANCE'

SB 274: Prohibits the suspension or expulsion of students from kindergarten to 12th grade for what's known as 'willful defiance', defined as disruption of school activities or defying school staff. Research studies have shown students of color, homeless and LGBTQ+ students are more likely to be disciplined for willful defiance than other students.

The 'Keep Kids in School' law requires schools to instead use intervention methods and provide support as an alternative.

VIOLENCE PREVENTION

SB 553: Requires businesses with 10 or more employees to implement and maintain a workplace violence prevention program. Employers must train workers on how to identify workplace violence hazards and how to respond to them. Employers must keep a log of workplace violence incidents.

HATE CRIMES

AB 449 : Requires law enforcement agencies in California to adopt a hate crimes policy that guides officers on how to recognize suspected hate crimes. It authorizes the Department of Justice to review materials submitted to make sure law enforcement departments are complying with the law.

PROPERTY DISCLOSURES

AB 968 : Requires the owner of a single-family residential property who is selling the home with 18 months of acquiring it to disclose the name of each contractor involved in any room additions, structural modifications or repairs to the property and copies of any permits that were obtained. The law only applies to new transactions.

HOUSING CONSTRUCTION

SB 684 : Allows cities and counties to build medium sized housing developments without the need for public hearings or votes. The developments must have 10 or fewer residential units and be on lots no larger than five acres. The law only applies in areas already zoned for multifamily housing.

With the Independence Day holiday coming up Thursday, residents of coastal Orange County may be looking for ways to celebrate the occasion outside of the many fireworks displays. The following is list of a few parades and marathons that readers in the Daily Pilot’s coverage area can look forward to:

Old Glory Boat Parade on Fourth of July

Organized by American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291, the Old Glory Boat Parade will return to Newport Harbor this Independence Day to celebrate not only the founding of America but the post’s 100th birthday .

Boats will compete for best decorated, best music, spirit award, best theme, the commodore’s award and the sweepstakes grand prize. The parade will begin at 1 p.m.

American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291 centennial celebration

In addition to the Old Glory Boat Parade, the American Legion post will host its centennial celebration at its location, 215 15th St., for three days, starting July 4. The event includes a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. on Independence Day for a $12 donation for adults and $8 for those 12 and under; live music; a community and family day with a $5 breakfast menu from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 5 and a $10 breakfast menu on July 6, along with a silent auction and raffle.

Mariners and Dover Shores hosts annual bike parade

Residents in the Mariners and Dover Shores community will be organizing its 51st annual 4th of July Family Bike Parade and Celebration on Independence Day.

The parade will begin at Santiago and Mariners Drive at 10:30 a.m. and will end at Dover Drive. Live music will be at Mariners Park. There’s no reason to go hungry: TK Burger, Mom’s Kitchen and Kona Ice will have food available for purchase.

13th annual 4th of July is for Families Newport Peninsula Bike Parade and Festival

The city of Newport Beach will hold its own bike parade and festival on the Fourth of July.

The parade will begin at west Balboa Boulevard and 36th Street at 9 a.m., and the community event will be held at Channel Place Park, which will begin at 9 and continue to 11:30 a.m.

The festival will include carnival games, arts and crafts, lawn activities and food.

From approximately 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Balboa Boulevard from 32nd Street to Channel Place will be closed, and no left turns will be allowed from westbound Balboa Boulevard at 34th, 36th, 39th, 43rd and 46th Streets for the parade.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. and continuing until early Friday morning, southbound Orange Street at West Coast Highway will be closed, as will Via Malaga, from Via Oporto to Via Lido.

From approximately noon to 10 p.m., Back Bay Drive and San Joaquin Hills Road between Back Bay Drive and the entrance to the Park Newport Apartment Community will be closed.

Surf City 5K run kicks off Independence Day

The Surf City 5K is back for another year. From 7 to 10 a.m. on Thursday participants will run along Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway.

Sign-ups are still open for all events, which includes the titular 5K, a stroller 5K and the Kids Fun Run. Pacific Coast Highway will be closed between Goldenwest Street and Beach Boulevard to accommodate the event, as will Main Street between Pacific Coast Highway to Gothard Street. Kiwanis Club of Huntington Beach hosts pancake breakfast

The Kiwanis Club of Huntington Beach will hold its annual breakfast at Lake Park, 1035 11th St., from 7 to 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The breakfast costs $10 and all proceeds will benefit children in need across the city.

120th annual Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade

Starting at 10 a.m. and following the Surf City 5K run will be the 120th annual Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade, which is expected to feature more than 100 groups including elected officials, military veterans, public safety and performers.

The parade route begins at Pacific Coast Highway and 9th Street and will conclude just past Yorktown Avenue. Tickets for reserved seating at Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway are on sale at psqproductions.ticketspice.com/huntington-beach-independence-day-2024 for $27 a person.

The parade will be broadcast on KABC Channel 7 and livestreamed.

The city of Huntington Beach will host a block party downtown on the Fourth, with live music from 5 to 9 p.m.
