Tupac Shakur Biopic ‘All Eyez on Me’ Picked Up by Lionsgate
Film will be released on June 16, the late rapper’s birthday
Lionsgate has acquired the U.S. rights to the Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez on Me” and will release it on the late rapper’s birthday on June 16, TheWrap has learned.
The Morgan Creek Productions project will tell the life story of the rapper, who died September 13, 1996, six days after being shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.
“All Eyez on Me,” which takes its name from Shakur’s 1996 album, stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. as the rapper, Danai Gurira, Kat Graham , Jamal Woolard, Dominic L. Santana, Lauren Cohan and Grace Gibson.
The movie is produced by Morgan Creek’s James G. Robinson and David Robinson along with Program Pictures’ LT Hutton. It was directed by Benny Boom.
Tupac sold over 75 million records worldwide — on April 7, the rapper will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The deal was negotiated for Morgan Creek by David Robinson and Jessica VanderYacht; David Nochimson of Ziffren Brittenham; and Glen Mastroberte of Latham & Watkins. For Lionsgate, the deal was negotiated by Jason Constantine, Eda Kowan, John Biondo and Elizabeth Hopkins.

All Eyez on Me , the long-gestating biopic of late rapper Tupac Shakur , is finally on its way to theaters.
Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to the Morgan Creek Entertainment film that follows the life of the iconic 1990s rapper and has set it for release on June 16, on what would have been Shakur’s 46th birthday.
The pic chronicles his rise to superstardom as a hip-hop artist, actor, poet and activist, as well as his imprisonment and controversial time at Death Row Records. Shakur has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, with his fourth studio album, 1996’s All Eyez on Me, selling more than 10 million copies. The rapper, who was killed in Las Vegas at the age of 25, will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 7.

The project started out on its long journey back in 2011 when Morgan Creek teamed with Emmett/ Furla /Oasis to make the film and hired Antoine Fuqua to direct. Fuqua eventually left the project, with John Singleton signing on. He also later left, and eventually Boom, who has directed a slew of music videos for hip-hop stars, came aboard. Jeremy N. Haft & Eddie Gonzalez and Steven Bagatourian wrote the script.
In October 2015, the film faced another hurdle when Emmett/ Furla /Oasis filed a lawsuit $10-million lawsuit against Morgan Creek, saying the company breached its agreement by selecting a lead actor and setting a budget and production schedule without Emmett/ Furla /Oasis’ approval (the case is ongoing and has been paused pending an appeal of a decision). Open Road was previously signed on to distribute the pic .
The new deal with Lionsgate was negotiated for Morgan Creek by David Robinson and Jessica VanderYacht ; David Nochimson of Ziffren Brittenham ; and Glen Mastroberte of Latham & Watkins. For Lionsgate , the deal was negotiated by Jason Constantine, Eda Kowan , John Biondo and Elizabeth Hopkins.

Morgan Creek Productions said today that Voltage Pictures will handle foreign rights to the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me , starting this week at AFM in Santa Monica. Domestic distribution talks are underway. The deal was negotiated by Brian Robinson and Jessica VanderYacht of Morgan Creek; Glen Mastroberte of Latham & Watkins; with Jonathan Deckter and Christian Eimer of Voltage Pictures.
C urrently in post-production, All Eyez on Me chronicles Shakur’s life and legacy, including his rise to superstardom as a hip-hop artist and actor, as well as his imprisonment and prolific, controversial time at Death Row Records, where he was steeped in the East Coast/West Coast rap war. Production in Las Vegas and Atlanta wrapped in the spring.
The feature is written by Jeremy Haft & Ed Gonzalez and Steve Bagatourian, and is directed by Benny Boom. All Eyez on Me stars newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr as Shakur, Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett, Annie Ilonzeh as Kidada Jones, Lauren Cohan as Leila Steinberg and Jamal Woolard as Biggie Smalls. James G. Robinson and David Robinson from Morgan Creek are producing with Program Pictures’ LT Hutton.
Voltage Pictures President and COO Jonathan Deckter said in a statement: “Benny and the team have made a highly stylized, emotional, entertaining and relevant film which Voltage looks forward to bringing to the international community and the legions of Tupac fans worldwide. In addition, I couldn’t be happier to work with Jim, Brian, David and my friends at Morgan Creek again.”
Added Morgan Creek Managing Director Brian Robinson: “Jonathan Deckter and the team at Voltage have the same passion in selling this film as we had in making it. We’re extremely excited to have them on-board.”

Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment has acquired the U.S. rights to the Morgan Creek Entertainment film that follows the life of the iconic ’90s rapper, and has set it for release June 16 — the day that would have marked Shakur’s 46th birthday.

Tupac Biopic "All Eyez On Me" Looking Like The Sure Thing
After securing a release date and rolling out an official trailer, some skeptics for the Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez on Me , still had their “believe-it-when-I-see-it” goggles on. But Morgan Creek Entertainment, the company who has weathered all the delays surrounding the film, recently reached a deal with the Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment label to distribute the film.
According to the fine print in Morgan Creek’s press release, the deal was negotiated for Morgan Creek by David Robinson, President; and Jessica VanderYacht; David Nochimson of Ziffren Brittenham; and Glen Mastroberte of Latham & Watkins. For Lionsgate, the deal was negotiated by Jason Constantine, President, Acquisitions & Co-Productions; Eda Kowan, Executive Vice President, Acquisitions & Co-Productions; John Biondo, Executive Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs, Acquisitions & Co-Productions; and Elizabeth Hopkins, Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs.
For those who aren’t in the know, All Eyez on Me experiences a nationwide release on Friday, June 16, 2017. The date holds the utmost significance, for it would have the late rap legend’s 46th birthday.
All Eyez on Me is directed by Benny Boom and showcases newcomer (and Makaveli doppelgänger Demetrius Shipp Jr. in the lead role as Tupac Shakur; The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur; Kat Graham ( The Vampire Diaries ) as Jada Pinkett; Dominic Santana ( Mr. Right ) as Suge Knight; Jamal Woolard reprising his role from 2009’s Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious as The Notorious B.I.G.; Keith Robinson ( Dreamgirls ) as Atron Gregory; Lauren Cohan ( The Walking Dead ) as Leila Steinberg; and Hill Harper ( CSI:NY ) as the journalist.
With more than 75 million records sold world (including his All Eyez on Me magnum opus accounting for 10 of those millions) and a historically tragic narrative in Hip Hop that ultimately contributed to his death at just the age of 25, the Tupac biopic definitely has a lot of ground to cover, but early reviews of the film suggest that it’s mission accomplished.
In summer of 2016 , The Game proudly proclaimed The Tupac movie is the real deal, shit make that Biggie movie look like a cartoon…I don’t mean no…ay…that’s what it is, homie,” after taking in a screening alongside Program Pictures’ LT Hutton, who also produced the film.

This new feature has changed industry. This allows us to better forecast deliveries, making sure that when our truck arrives your tank will be delivered to. We can install a wireless remote monitor onto the propane tanks gauge. Once installed the gauge sends VanderYacht Propane the propane percentage level of the tank. Donald M. Vande Yacht, age 80, of Green Bay, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024. Don was born with his twin brother in Green Bay, December 3, 1943 to Ed and Anna (Nienhaus) Vande Yacht.
Don married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Urban on June 19, 1965 at Holy Trinity Church in Casco.
After high school, Don attended UW-Madison, graduating in 1989 with a degree in Economics. In 1965 Don joined his father and brother in Brillion at Kasson Cheese Co. He bought the factory with 5 employees and grew it to 125 employees, selling it in 1987. Moving to Madison for a year, he completed his degree in 1989. Upon returning to Appleton, he completed his insurance security tests and joined Northwestern Mutual Com.
In 1991, he and Nancy moved to Negril, Jamaica where they ran a little resort, returning to Appleton in 1995. Upon returning, Don joined Anchor Foods, now McCain, as Procurement Manager. In 2006 they moved to River Falls to be close to their grandchildren. There he worked at a couple different companies until he retired.
Brillion has a special place in his heart, where they raised their children and made life long friends. Don was very active in St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Cursillo Movement. He was elected to school boards in both Brillion and Manitowoc Roncalli, serving as President for many years. Don was involved with Jaycees and many projects while in Brillion.
In River Falls, besides being involved with his church, he also volunteered with the Republican Party. AA became an important part of his life both in River Falls and in Green Bay.
As a young man, Don enjoyed running and completed three marathons. World travel was a part of his life with the high point being a trip to Rome in 1990 and a private Mass with Saint Pope John Paul at his private residence.
Don is survived by his wife, Nancy, and their two children, Christine and Daniel (Kim Verhoff) Vande Yacht, their grandchildren: Jessica Ferruzza, of Milwaukee, Jack and Kaitlin Vande Yacht, of Ashwaubenon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Ron Vande Yacht.
A visitation will be held at Nativity of Our Lord Parish (2270 S. Oneida St., Green Bay, WI), Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 9 to 11 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM with Fr.
