Overnight Stays – We can host up to 6 guests during an overnight stay. Rather than reserving a night at a hotel and renting a few rooms, stay downtown at Adeline’s. Once you confirm your reservation, your broker will process your payment.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

It offers a 400sq. ft. aft deck with bar and a full dining table. With it's large 220 sq. ft. swimming platform it offers an easy entry to the water. Salon has a 70" TV with plenty of seating area and a dining room table. With a 360 degree panoramic view of the outstanding Chicago skyline.

Fly bridge has a large 60' by 20' area, wet bar with sink. The 7'x7' jacuzzi will make for unforgetable time. The yacht also includes a large sun deck with tanning space and all-around bench seating.

What to know.

The lake is jam packed in the summer season as everyone in the city flocks to Lake Michigan. This is a consequence of the small window of opportunity to enjoy warm days on the water. 

It’s not just on the lake where people gather but along the Chicago River running through the center of the city. Downtown dockage is available but tends to fill up fast so reservations are encouraged. Just like the lake, the boat traffic in the Chicago River gets congested during the season months and does require precautious boating. 

Safety Requirements:

Boating License/Education Rules: Valid Boating Safety Certificate issued by the Department of Natural Resources or an entity or organization recognized and approved by the Department is required.

Life Jacket Requirements: 13 and under must wear a PFD.

$125M super yacht reportedly owned by an English billionaire is cruising the Great Lakes

No, your eyes don't deceive you — that is a 217-foot, $125-million super yacht cruising the Great Lakes. 

The Hampshire, reportedly owned by English billionaire Andrew Currie, has been making its way around the Upper Peninsula this month, stopping in various destinations, including Mackinac Island. 

Currie, a biofuel executive who is a director with chemical company Ineos, is worth about $3.5 billion, making him the 504th richest person on Forbes' billionaires 2019 list . 

While Currie is not publicly connected to the ship, MLive and the Mining Gazette   report the multibillionaire owns the Hampshire. Currie is also connected to Hampshire I, another super yacht that appeared at the Cannes Film Festival in May. 

The Dutch-built Hampshire can sleep 12 guests and carries a crew of 17 people, according to Boat International . The boat also features an on-deck pool.

The yacht stopped in Milwaukee on Aug. 7, according to the  Milwaukee Business Journal , then headed toward Traverse City.  TV6 also caught the yacht Aug. 12 in Marquette's Lower Harbor, where the station reported that crew members stopped on shore to support local business.

A Mackinac Island State Harbor employee said the Hampshire docked at the island Monday and was still there Tuesday morning. According to boat tracking site Vessel Finder , the yacht has a set destination of "cruising Great Lakes."

Business | Chicago Boat Show setting sail for Rosemont in 2025

The annual show, which has seen dwindling attendance in recent years, is relocating to the northwest suburbs after nearly a century in Chicago, in part to be closer to its target recreational boat-buying customer, organizers said.

“We met with our exhibitors and the decision was made that we need to go out to the suburbs,” said Darren Envall, manager of the Chicago Boat Show. “It is closer to where people are doing boating in the Fox Lake area as well as Lake Geneva, and it is closer to where the dealers are located.”

The show, which dates back nearly a century, has throughout its history been a Chicago event of national importance on the boating industry calendar.

Owned and operated by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, the show was a mainstay at McCormick Place for decades, and before that at the since-demolished International Amphitheatre. The show has gone through several incarnations, reaching its pinnacle in the 1990s as the Chicago Boat, Sports & RV Show, which regularly attracted more than 50,000 visitors each year.

While attendance had declined in recent years, it still drew about 40,000 visitors annually before temporarily shutting down in 2021 and 2022 during the pandemic.

The most recent five-day show in January, hampered by a heavy snowstorm, drew fewer than 20,000 attendees, Envall said.

A loss for McCormick Place, a win for Rosemont, the migration of the boat show represents something of a zero-sum game for the Chicago-area convention business, which has been recovering in the post-pandemic landscape.

“Big exciting news,” said Christopher Stephens, executive director of the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.

While there had been discussion in the past about luring the boat show to Rosemont, Stephens said things got “more serious” this year, helping the northwest suburb land a major regional event.

Stephens said the Rosemont convention center offered the boat show and its attendees adjacent hotels, entertainment and a 9,000-space parking facility, all of which helped seal the deal. Down the road, the show could expand to the entire 840,000 square feet of exhibition space, as needed.

He also touted safety as an advantage for Rosemont over Chicago, which has struggled with the perception of increased crime in the wake of the pandemic.

“We always want to make sure when people come here that they feel safe,” Stephens said. “We provide as much policing and traffic controls as possible for attendees.”

While corporate meetings are still down, Stephens said conventions and large public events have returned to pre-pandemic levels in Rosemont, with the 2025 calendar now significantly bolstered by the addition of the boat show.

At the same time, he said Rosemont doesn’t try to “poach business” from Chicago.

“We’ve always thought that a strong McCormick Place was good for Rosemont,” Stephens said. “We’ll obviously never turn down an event, if they want to relocate out to Rosemont and we can accommodate them, but we don’t actively solicit.”

For McCormick Place, it’s been win some, lose some in March.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced it was returning its Ignite information technology conference to McCormick Place in November after a nine-year absence. The inaugural event in 2015 drew 20,000 attendees to Chicago’s convention center.

“The sales cycle can be very dynamic in the convention industry,” said Cynthia McCafferty, a McCormick Place spokesperson. “Microsoft Ignite was a great addition to our calendar this year, we have a very robust pipeline of new business ahead and feel good about the future.”

The loss of the boat show is both symbolic and substantial for McCormick Place, erasing a solid and historically well-attended event from the January calendar in 2025, and likely beyond.

The Chicago Boat Show was often the first big public event of the year, setting the table for the annual Chicago Auto Show and filling the exhibition halls with visitors dreaming of summer during the coldest winter months.

In 2025, the Chicago Boat Show will keep the city’s name, at least for now, as it migrates to the suburbs for a scheduled Jan. 8-12 run.

The new version of the show will focus more on fishing boats and weekend warriors who hitch up a trailer and head for the Chain O’Lakes to drop a line, as opposed to plying Lake Michigan in larger crafts. Envall said that represents about 85% of the boaters in the Chicago area, most of whom reside in the suburbs.

Despite its long history in Chicago, Envall said he expects Rosemont to be the event’s home for years to come.

“There’s a time to change and the change was to get out to the village of Rosemont where more of the recreational boater is reflected in the market,” Enval said.

Youngest captain with Chicago’s First Lady Cruises is anchored by her love of the job

CHICAGO -- The last time we saw Diamond Gibbs , then a mother of one and a senior deckhand on the Mercury Skyline Queen, she was keeping an eye on the water to make sure her passengers and other boaters on the Chicago River were safe while enjoying themselves. That was in the fall of 2019.

These days, the West Garfield Park native is at the helm of the boats that are part of Chicago’s First Lady Cruises fleet as the company’s youngest boat captain at age 26.

Gibbs, now a mother of two boys, Kameron, 9, and Zion, 2, has been rocking the four bars on her epaulets, signifying her role as captain, since August 2023. The CFL family welcomed her promotion and growth by inviting her onto one of their vessels and, as Gibbs recalls, 10 people were standing in a circle in the salon waiting for her.

“I’m thinking: What did I do? As I walked up on the boat, I was going to back on out, but I saw the owner, Captain Tim Agra standing there. I was like I can’t back out now,” she says laughing, thinking back to the day.

The group was there to congratulate Gibbs on passing the captain’s course. She said she almost teared up, but kept it together.

“I still wake up every day saying, ‘Yeah, I’m a captain!’,” she said. “Officially having the keys to the vessel, it’s nice. Being a part of the captains meeting is like, ‘I’m there! I finally made it!”

Gibbs navigates the official Chicago Architecture Center River Cruise down all three branches of the Chicago River. Five years ago, her eyes were on the prize of being a captain. Now that she has her captain’s license, she’s working toward getting the keys to all of the cruise company’s vessels, five more to be exact.

And while she’s working toward that, she’s also trying to bring more people of color and more women into the world of boating — people like Attia Gray, a Hammond resident who was serving aboard the vessel with Gibbs as first mate on a sunny April afternoon.

“I actually never did a river cruise before applying here,” Gray said. “But I just feel like the way that these boats look, the care they take, it looked like the best company to choose.”

Gray started on the recreational side of boating before transitioning to the commercial side. She already has her captain’s license, which according to Gibbs, requires the holder to have hundreds of hours and days working on the water. And that’s aside from going to school. The schools have varying requirements to get a license.

Once a captain’s license is obtained, one joins a commercial boating company, which has its own program that pairs potential captains with current captains to train them on how to run a particular ship. Both women agree it’s a process that takes time, and Gray is waiting for a spot to open up in the cruise line’s program. Gibbs said she is one of two female captains, out of 18 total captains, with Chicago’s First Lady Cruises. Gibbs can hardly wait to welcome Gray into the fold to make it a trio.

“Another female Black captain … I’ve been trying to help her get to the same level I’m on,” Gibbs said.

As members of the Ship Masters’ Association, Gibbs and Gray are doing community outreach to get more diversity on the water. Gibbs said she’s reaching out to high schools, clubs and youth groups to recruit more people.

Maritime life found Gibbs when, after a year at Malcolm X College, she was studying to be an emergency medical technician. She needed a job that allowed her flexibility with her young son. When she applied for a job with the cruise line, company officials saw on her resume that she was CPR certified and said, “Instead of working on the docks, how about giving it a try on the boat?” The rest is history. Gibbs has been with the company since 2017.

Gibbs still can’t swim, but she can stay afloat and tread water. She’s contemplating taking swim lessons with her sons. Days before Mother’s Day, Gibbs said juggling motherhood with her full-time job is a bit tough, but she said she wouldn’t have been able to do it without the assistance of her mother and the understanding and support of her colleagues in the company.

“They understand my situation. … I’m still a mom, so I have to be able to take care of the boys and help the company as much as I can,” she said. “Working here is pretty much like my second home. When I’m not at home, I prefer to be at work. I don’t even want to go anywhere else.”

Ninety-minute cruises explore both the lake and the river, and passengers hear information about Chicago’s buildings and history from tour guides. Official architecture tours, on the river only, with volunteer docents from the Chicago Architecture Center are also 90 minutes.

“As the senior female in our fourth-generation family-owned business, I am so proud of the hard work and dedication Diamond invested to become a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain aboard our ships,” said Holly Agra, executive chairman of Chicago’s First Lady Cruises. “Her commitment to safety first, coupled with her ability to work together with fellow crew members, docents and passengers, demonstrate qualities we celebrate as a company.”

Chicago’s First Lady’s season begins in early spring and ends in November. The year-round, full-time job also entails maintaining the boats in the Dolton shipyard during the offseason. Gibbs is on the team that ensures the wood on the boats is maintained.

Gibbs has made a home for herself on the water, so much so that she’s had offers from other companies enticing her to leave CFL. But Gibbs stands firm.

“I’m very happy where I’m at,” she said.

Went on the 10am tour and the weather was perfect. Both sides of the boat had amazing views! Hillary was funny and engaging. We got to see more parts of the river than I excepted and the 90 minutes was so worth it!!

Hillary was a great tour guide keeping it light and humorous. No script, but her knowledge of the buildings and Chicago in general was phenomenal. It's probably our third time over the years but the most memorable. A great tour to do every few years.

Our tour guide, Billy, was very informative and entertaining! We learned a lot about the history of Chicago and it made my partner and I appreciate the city we were visiting more.

Took some amazing photos from the uncrowded bow of the boat; the other passengers on board were all very chill and the staff were fantastic including the captain with his dry sense of humor! The boat was clean and well maintained, in particular the bar was very well maintained and made the trip even more enjoyable. Will definitely repeat another trip with these folks next time I'm in Chi-Town, but I'm gonna try to do an evening cruise which may be even more amazing. What a wonderful day! The tour was awesome. Lots of fun information about the City.I would highly recommend it. The weather was kind of cloudy but at least it didn't rain and no sun damage.

A recent USA Today readers’ poll has determined that Illinois can boast one of the top boat shows in the United States.

USA TODAY determined the top shows by asking a panel of experts for nominations. Readers then voted on the top picks and named the Discover Boating Chicago Boat Show as the fifth-best event of its kind in the country.

“In addition to the vessels for sale, live music, cook-offs, a trout pond, a kids’ corner, and an antique and classic boat display make this event a standout,” USA Today wrote in the winning entry .

Billionaires like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg spend six figures a year maintaining their superyachts. Here's how.

Financial advisors are quick to warn prospective owners that a boat is nothing more than a hole in the water in which to throw money. When it comes to superyachts , you'd better have bags and bags of cash.

As one luxury agent told Business Insider at the Palm Beach International Boat Show: "Buying a boat, it's a huge purchase — and nobody needs a yacht."

A superyacht, generally over 30 meters long, is one of the most expensive assets money can buy, with the largest costing more than a lot of real estate or a private jet. Billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs each spent nine figures on their megayachts.

That doesn't include operating costs. Owners should expect to pay about 10% of a yacht's new-build price each year, experts told Business Insider. That's tens of millions of dollars annually for the most luxurious boats.

"It's a small-to-medium-sized business in its own right," said Jeffrey Beneville, a senior vice president at insurance company NFP, where he specializes in consulting clients about yachts.

Unlike many smaller boats, superyachts need staff, not just a captain. Some superyachts have space for dozens of crewmembers , including a chef, engineer, and masseuse for the guests onboard. Each gets an annual salary — the highest-ranking members earn six figures — and benefits. Eric Schmidt's yacht fits a crew of 28 for a ratio of about two crewmembers per guest.

Then there's fuel, dockage fees, routine maintenance, and insurance. The latter hinges on everything from the reputation of a yacht's shipyard to where an owner wants to take it (if a vessel is taking frequent trips to the South China Sea, for example, expect to pay a higher premium). If a superyacht has a support yacht — or a support superyacht, in Bezos ' case — expect to pay another 10% of that boat's price annually.

"The cost to maintain a yacht is so high that they just think that money's getting lit on fire," Matthew Fleissig, the CEO of wealth management firm Pathstone, told BI of his clients who choose to charter rather than own.

One of his firm's clients who does own has a 23-meter yacht valued at $5.2 million. The annual cost to staff, maintain, dock, and insure the boat is $346,297, according to documentation provided to BI. The lion's share is spent on marina fees ($95,970) and maintenance work ($88,408.) While not exactly a Sunfish, that boat is too small to count as a superyacht.

At 106 meters, the Amadea, owned by a sanctioned Russian oligarch , definitely does. The $300 million yacht, which was seized in 2022 and is docked in San Diego, cost $922,000 a month to maintain, a court filing showed: $360,000 for crew salaries, $75,000 for fuel, $144,000 for insurance, $178,000 in dry-docking fees, and $165,000 for maintenance, waste removal, food for the crew, and miscellaneous expenses.

"And that's an inactive yacht that's in the water," NFP's Beneville said.

If it were operational and carrying guests, the costs would be about twice that, or between $20 million and $30 million a year, he added.

Of course, it makes more financial sense for the non-obsessives to charter, and many of Fleissig's clients do. And some owners choose to offer their yachts for charter — the most luxurious cost as much as $1 million a week — to offset the costs.

"If you charter the boat for 50 days a year, it's going to help a lot," Anders Kurtén, the CEO of brokerage firm Fraser Yachts, told BI.

Then again, the running costs don't matter as much at a certain point. "If you're worth $30 billion, it's nothing. And if you're worth $117 billion — and these are the guys we're talking about — they're in it as long as it's still enjoyable for them," Beneville said. "It's not a money thing."
