DB9 Yacht for Charter
In 2010, Palmer Johnson joined forces with Nuvolari Lenard and the 171.9-foot (52.36m) DB9 was the impressive result. This semi-displacement aluminum-hulled superyacht has a beam of 31.2-feet (9.5m), a draft of 8-feet (2.44m) and a range of 4,000 nautical miles. She offers fantastic and exciting performance, cruising at 24.4 knots and topping out at 32.5 knots for those who really enjoy fast action on the waves. Thanks to a full refit in 2020, DB9 is in excellent shape to welcome up to 12 guests for an exceptional charter experience. The crew of 11 ensures world-class service.
IMPRESSIVE GUEST ACCOMMODATION
Guests sleep in five beautifully appointed staterooms, all of which are spacious, tastefully furnished and offer comfort, luxury and state-of-the-art entertainment systems. The master stateroom stretches across the full beam of the yacht and is situated aft on the lower deck. It has numerous features to recommend it. These include a walk-in closet, a spacious en-suite bathroom and a private stairway by which the stateroom is accessed. The remainder of the accommodation is equally well planned-out. The lower deck has a foyer and leading off this are two double staterooms and two twin staterooms, with two extra Pullman beds available. All the rooms are en-suite.
LIFE ON BOARD
Despite the attractions of her interior, the deck spaces naturally absorb most of the guests’ time while aboard. On the sundeck, there is an open-air cinema, a television and sound system, and also a barbecue area. She also has a huge pool for guests to relax in.
To guarantee that charterers enjoy the great cruising grounds, DB9 is stacked with great tenders and toys. These include Sea-Doos, SeaBobs, a wakeboard, paddleboard, water skis, and inflatables – including a mini inflatable assault course. In the summer, DB9 can be seen cruising in the East and West Mediterranean, taking in Sicily, Sardinia, Provence, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, the French Riviera and Corsica, among other destinations. In winter, she turns to the Caribbean’s Winward and the Leeward Islands, the US and British Virgins and The Bahamas.
True to her name, the Amels-built superyacht ADDICTION, has been highly admired since she was first launched in 2010. At 178.2-feet (54.3m) she is a great size to accommodate 12 guests in six luxurious staterooms, along with a total of 13 crewmembers.
Her naval architecture came from the talented studio of Tim Hayward while her interior is the inspiration of Laura Sessa Design. This steel displacement yacht is a familiar sight in the Balearic Islands, French Riviera, Italian coastlines and Provencal coast. She cruises at 12.5 knots with a maximum speed of 15 knots. She has been lovingly cared for over the years meaning she is in excellent condition to welcome guests.
HIGHLIGHTS OF LIFE ON BOARD
If you are looking for fun on the water, ADDICTION will not disappoint. She has a glut of toys and watersports equipment. This includes wakeboards, kneeboards and water skis, a wake-foil, two Sea-Doo Jet Skis, an electric jet board, SeaBobs, and a whole garage of fun and original inflatable toys to keep children and active adults amused. There is also a full complement of gym equipment – from weights and bikes to yoga mats. When it’s time to relax and restore, there are plenty of options, including exterior dining for 10 and a room that converts to a massage room, if desired. The crew will also happily transport guests ashore and arrange picnics and fun days out on remote, pristine and iconic beaches.
FIRST-CLASS ACCOMMODATION
The master stateroom, on the main deck, is king-sized and makes plenty of space for the large bed as well as an office and lounging area. There is also a spacious en-suite bathroom. The remainder of the charter party is accommodated in a twin cabin (also on the main deck), as well as three double staterooms and a twin cabin on the lower deck. The communal areas are tastefully decorated with cutting-edge entertainment equipment throughout, including a 58-inch flat-screen television in the upper deck sky lounge.

It’s just a tad more powerful than the Aston Martin it’s named after. With a staggering 9,200-turbocharged horsepower, this 171-foot speed machine can reach a highly impressive 37 mph, two or three times faster than other yachts its size. Breakfast in Monaco, lunch in Porto Cervo and back in time for dinner? No problem.
Launched back in 2010 and christened DB9 after the classic V12-engined British sports car, it was the first of Palmer Johnson ’s iconic PJ 170 Sport Yacht range, and the only one built in England.

Eleven years later, DB9 still spins heads from St. Tropez to St. Barts—two of its favorite ports of call—like few other superyachts. Those razor-edged lines are from designers Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard of Venice-based Nuvolari Lenard.
The champagne-colored hull, red boot stripe and sculpted superstructure immediately identify DB9 , wherever it goes on either side of the Atlantic. Courtesy YPI
Today, DB9 is the pride and joy of American businessman and boat lover, John Rosatti. Maybe you’ve bought a new car from one of his many Plaza Auto Mall dealerships. Or fine-dined at his Vic & Angelo’s Italian eatery in South Florida. Or grabbed a burger at one of his successful BurgerFi joints.
Rosatti bought DB9 back in 2019 a year after selling his much-loved 214-foot Codecasa superyacht Double Down . Before that, he owned the 160-foot Christensen Nice ’n Easy and, before that, the 127-foot Crescent Take it Easy.
At the time, the yacht was languishing unloved in an Istanbul shipyard, a for-sale sign in its window and an €18 million asking price. Rosatti’s car dealer instincts weighed the pros and cons. The cons included pricy overhauls for the yacht’s entire mechanical and electronic systems, plus a re-spray of the hull. The single, but eventually deciding, pro: an iconic boat at a great price.
The 171-footer has three onboard swimming pools, not to mention a small navy of water toys. Courtesy YPI
Rosatti is currently off-the-grid aboard DB9 , cruising around the Italian island of Sardinia, so wasn’t available for comment. But Peter Thompson, managing director of Monaco-based Yachting Partners International, and Rosatti’s longtime friend and boat-buying advisor, gave Robb Report a history of the boat.
“ DB9 had pretty much been in mothballs her entire life,” he says. “Shortly after launch, she was hauled out of the water and parked on the hard. When we tracked her down in Istanbul years later, she had less than 1,200 hours on the engines.”
The Palmer Johnson was originally built for the Russian oligarch Sergei Pugachev. He was the founder of the MezhPrombank, and a close friend and advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to published reports, in 2011, a year after he took delivery of DB9 , Pugachev was accused by the Russian government of running off with a $1 billion bailout loan given to his bank. His considerable assets were reportedly seized, including DB9 , and he fled to England. He’s now living in exile in the South of France.
After sitting idle for years, the yacht went through a refit in 2019. Courtesy YPI
“A Turkish buyer bought the boat out of receivership in 2016, managed to get it to Istanbul and renamed it Aura ,” says Thompson. “But it just sat there and, as we know, boats like these hate not being used. When we found her in 2019, she needed work.”
After the purchase, the boat went into the Dunya Yachts yard in Istanbul for a comprehensive refit. All the systems were upgraded, those mighty MAN diesels were overhauled and the yacht was given a complete re-paint in that polarizing Champagne-with-red-bootstripe color scheme. And the original DB9 name was resurrected.
“Today she’s in absolutely pristine condition,” says Thompson. ”Inside and out, she looks brand new and still turns heads like no other boat I know.”
The interior also received a facelift. Courtesy YPI
Some of DB9’s coolest features include not one, but three pools, including a huge 26-foot saltwater pool on the foredeck that, when empty, holds the yacht’s RIB tender. Emptying it takes less than 10 minutes. For alfresco entertainment, the yacht comes with a state-of-the-art outdoor cinema on the sundeck. Belowdecks are five spacious staterooms for up to 12 guests, including a full-beam master.
According to Thompson, the “owner recently decided that he wants to replace DB9 with a larger yacht more suited to world-girding.” So, when the Rosattis are done cruising the Med this fall, it’ll be displayed at the Monaco Yacht Show in September, with a €25 million, or $29.4 million, asking price.
Maybe Rosatti should consider throwing in a champagne-colored Aston Martin DB9 to sweeten the deal.

On board 52m DB9 with serial yacht owner John Rosatti
Related articles, superyacht directory.
Sophia Wilson pays a visit to a self-made American businessman known as much for his dealerships and hospitality outlets as he is for his affinity for yacht ownership. He tells her about his latest acquisition, the PJ DB9 , and why he may already be on the lookout for his next refit challenge...
I’m not like your typical owner,” John Rosatti says. “I enjoy making a deal, buying a yacht, making it better and then selling it. That’s my fun.” Now in his seventies, the American businessman estimates he has owned more than 25 yachts, and when I meet him on board his current boat, 52.36 metre DB9 , it quickly becomes apparent he isn’t done yet.
Docked right in the middle of the Monaco Yacht Show, the sporty Palmer Johnson is attracting plenty of interest. “She’s like a movie star,” Rosatti quips. He is now selling DB9 and already has his eye out for his next big project. “I have had a look at a couple, but I would rather have this yacht under contract first, rather than end up with two boats,”he says with a smile. “I have done that before and I have learned it’s much better to sell first.”
As he’s told us before, his love of boats started from an early age as his grandfather used to take him out on his fishing boat. “He would be out in the back of the boat with friends, and I would steer it,” he recalls. His grandfather’s guests included New York Yankees star players Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford. “He [his grandfather] was on boats all his life,” Rosatti says, “and I started with them as soon as I could afford to.”
His first boat was a 10m Cigarette, which he raced on the circuit before moving onto a 16.7 metre Ocean Yachts sportfisher and then an 18.2 metre Hatteras . He then went on to build the 35 metre Denison Thunderball , which still holds the record for the fastest American-built twin-engine motor yacht over 100 feet in the 20th century. “We learned a lot from that boat; it did 50 knots and was a lot of fun,” he remembers. “At the time, in 1988, she was the 89th biggest yacht in the world. It shows how much things have changed since then.”
For the past decade or so, Rosatti’s yachting portfolio has focused more on comfort over speed. He built 49.37 metre Christensen Remember When in 2010 and, when we last checked in with him in 2016, had just refitted 65.2 metre Codecasa Double Down . However, power proved an enticing quality when it came to the Palmer Johnson DB9 . “I have had a lot of much larger but slower boats in the past, but she is a whole different yacht,” says Rosatti of DB9 , which has a maximum speed of 32.5 knots. “I had a dilemma with downsizing, but when I saw her, she was so beautiful and sexy, and size was no longer an issue.”
The first hull from Palmer Johnson’s PJ 170 SportYacht range, DB9 was launched in 2010 but was barely used by her owner. Rosatti’s wife, Zuzana, whom he married in St Barths in 2020, spotted the boat in the magazine. Their broker, YPI’s Peter Thompson, knew the yacht’s previous captain and arranged for them to see her in Istanbul. “The boat was really not used at all by the previous owners. I think she had less than 200 hours on her and that is part of what attracted me to it,” Rosatti explains.
After purchasing her in 2019, Rosatti undertook a six-month refit at Dunya Yachts , which included rebuilding all the pumps and engines and a full system upgrade, despite her limited use. “Sometimes not using a boat is as bad as using it too much,” he says.
While Rosatti oversaw the technical side of the rebuild, Zuzana transformed the interior, working closely with Turkish interiors group Ulutaş. “It’s a wow interior, with light wood decor found throughout. She is very impressive,” he says. “We added a bar because she didn’t have one before, and the salon now feels like you are on a 65 metre [213 footer]. She feels brand new, not like an 11-year-old boat.”
Zuzana’s input enhanced the refit experience. “I enjoy the refit, especially now that Zuzana does the interior and the decorating. For me, that was always something I couldn’t do, I like the engines,” he says. There is also a clear delineation in the partnership. “She has an opinion, and I don’t get a say,” he laughs. “Take the red stripe on DB9 . She suggested it and I said, ‘Really? A red stripe on a champagne hull?’ but as soon as you see it you realize it looks great.”
Rosatti’s love of “fixing up” famously started with cars rather than boats. “My father was a mechanic for the [New York] Transit Authority, and he was a lover of cars. He would always be fixing them,” he says. “I bought one of my own when I was 16, fixed it up and sold it to my friends.” Rosatti carried on working on cars at night while working in construction and haulage before he decided to make it his career. In 1968 he opened a body shop; less than seven years after that he opened the doors to Brooklyn’s Plaza Auto Mall.
Rosatti still owns six dealerships, but with his son now predominantly looking after the automotive business, he can enjoy cars purely for pleasure. His collection currently stands at more than 100, most of them retro-mod American hot rods from the 1940s to the 1980s. With this sector of the market currently booming, Rosatti is now looking to slim down his fleet. “I think it is getting a little old for me, but I will keep maybe five to ten cars,” he says. “I bought a Bugatti a couple of years ago and now I have had three of them, including the 300mph one. I’m a speed nut and I love to go fast. No other car compares to it.”
Rosatti’s other business interests are centered around the hospitality industry, where again he has sought to fix problems. “When I moved to Florida in 1992 you had to wait in line to get into all the restaurants. I didn’t like having to wait and tip the maître d’ so I decided to open my own,” he says. He launched his first branch of fine dining Italian restaurant Vic & Angelo’s a couple of years later and went on to open another two, as well as a gastropub called The Office. The latter inspired his next business venture, BurgerFi, a fast-food franchise aimed at serving “better burgers.”
I wanted to create something healthy and tasty but for around the $6 mark,” he says. The first BurgerFi restaurant opened in Fort Lauderdale, on the site of what had been a Burger King. “It went like a house on fire,” he says. “The Burger King did $800,000 a year in gross sales; in our first year we did $2.4 million.” Now with more than 120 BurgerFi outlets, Rosatti has taken the company public, while remaining a major shareholder and advisor.
He admits the line between his hobbies and business is a bit blurred. “I’m dedicated to boats, cars and restaurants. Nothing else gets my attention – I’m not interested in golf or other things.”
Ultimately, Rosatti is hoping to be able to spend more time on board his next yacht. “I want to do some long-range stuff now,” he says. “There are so many places that I haven’t been to by boat. I haven’t been to Alaska, I haven’t been to Dubai, I haven’t been to Hawaii. I am more or less semi-retired now, so I can do longer trips.”
With blue water cruising in mind, Rosatti is now on the hunt for a 60 to 65 metre vessel that is less than ten years old. He is determined to stick with refit rather than taking on another new build. “I don’t think I’m at an age now where you want to spend three or four years building a yacht and getting the brain damage from that,” he says with a smile. “I have built maybe ten new builds and it is a job. Even after you are done with the building side of it, it still takes maybe six months to a year to get it to perfection.”
However, Rosatti is realistic about what he will be leaving behind with DB9 . “It’s unbelievable the attention you get anywhere you go with her,” he says. “My problem is I always miss the one I had before, but being in the car and boating business, you sell and you buy.”
