Both Fort Myers and Cape Coral are on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River, a major Florida waterway that is part of the Okeechobee Waterway that crosses the Florida peninsula from Gulf of Mexico/Fort Myers in the west to the Atlantic Ocean/Stuart in the east, through Lake Okeechobee. The Okeechobee Waterway is maintained by the US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), who built the canals and locks for navigation across state. The Caloosahatchee River is the third leg of the Great Calusa Blueway of scenic waterways in the area, great for kayak and canoe excursions. The 67-mile river was used as a water highway by the Calusa Indians, from whom it was named, and early settlers in the area. Today the river’s wide end where it flows out into bays and the Gulf of Mexico is busy with industry, shipping and boating in stark contrast to its peaceful backwaters where it drains the northern Everglades. As with the Naples area, wealthy businessmen and celebrities took a shine to Fort Myers for its natural beauty and abundant waterways, along with infrastructure development in the late 1800’s and turn of the century. Inventors Thomas Edison and Henry Ford purchased land in 1916 and built estates in what is now downtown Fort Myers. Edison planted the stately Royal Palms that line scenic McGregor Blvd leading to the city’s most upscale riverfront neighborhoods. The Edison and Ford estates are now museums that have become Fort Myers most visited attraction.

The barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva and Fort Myers Beach are known for their beautiful beaches and a prime destination for vacationers, including those from other areas of Florida. There are endless family-friendly attractions, restaurants, shopping and resorts, fishing, golf and many wonderful Nature Reserves and islands to explore, especially by water.

With so much waterfront, boaters can cruise up to any number of great restaurants in the area. In Cape Coral, on the north bank of the Caloosahatchee, is Fathoms at Cape Harbour, accessible from the river and Cape Harbour. Fathoms offers indoor and outdoor dining. Marker 92 Waterfront Bar & Bistro and the Nauti Mermaid Dockside Bar & Grill. Rumrunners, with indoor and outdoor dining, is also accessible from the Caloosahatchee and Cape Harbour.

In Fort Myers, the Lighthouse Restaurant (MM II in Jonathan Harbour, just past Connie Mack Island) features a full bar, indoor and outdoor dining dockside and a 160’ porch for watching spectacular sunsets and millionaire’s yachts. The Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa (MM II) features Charley’s Cabana Bar (tapas bar and dinner), the Tarpon House (American casual dining) and Courtside Steakhouse with full bar (upscale; reservations required). Fort Myers Beach has a vast selection of eateries; here are several for boaters—Bayfront Bistro above the Snook Bight Yacht Club; Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille with a great view of Estero Bay; Original Shrimp Dock Bar & Grill; Flippers On The Bay at Lovers Key Beach Club & Resort, located just east of Big Carlos Pass, is great place for coconut shrimp; Matanzas Harborside Restaurant, dockage while dining is free; Nervous Nellie’s is casual dining with a vast menu from which to choose; Parrot Key Caribbean Grill, Marker 24 near Matanzas Pass Bridge, seafood and raw bar; Pink Shell Beach Resort and Marina, Marker 11 with onsite Bongo’s Bar & Grill that is poolside serving casual fare and seafood.

North Fort Myers on the north bank of the Caloosahatchee, is the Three Fishermen, located northwest of the Caloosahatchee Bridge with possible the best riverfront view in Lee County, is an open-air seafood place. On Sanibel, cruise up to Gramma Dots at Sanibel Marina and on Captiva, there’s The Green Flash at GICW Marker 38 (a green light flashes at sunset) for seafood and steak; Old Captiva House is also at Marker 38 faces the Gulf of Mexico.

Some of the area Marinas to consider are Sweetwater Landing Marina; Port Sanibel Marina, located nest to Connie Mack Island, features onsite Lighthouse restaurant and a mile-long Nature Boardwalk, has 95 stationary docks with finger piers and tie-off pilings; Fort Myers Yacht Basin; Legacy Harbour Marina; Semmer’s Docks; Moss Marine in Fort Myers Beach; Pink Shell Resort & Marina in Fort Myers Beach (Bongo’s Bar & Grill). This is by no means a comprehensive list; there are many marina facilities with varying vessel accommodations and of course, private membership yacht clubs—some with reciprocity.

As you board the Azimut 55 Fly you immediately notice the attention to detail. From high polished stainless steel, teak decks, exterior cushions covered with high quality fabrics vs vinyl, and exterior tabletops having stylish composite marble with teak edging. The aft deck featured a large U-shaped dinette with room for two aft falling chairs. The salon has accordion style doors which open the galley/salon to the aft deck. Port and starboard are large walkways accessing the bow of the vessel, to port is a staircase accessing the bridge, and also aft and port are stairs accessing the hydraulic platform and entry to the vessels crew quavers.  

As you move from the aft deck into the vessel you enter the galley which essentially is full beam. Top of the line appliances such as Miele accent the galley along with her stylish cabinetry. Custom glass ware, china, and silverware have custom cut locations within the galley cabinetry.  

Moving forward, the vessels salon is also full beam with large U-shaped couch to port that’s accompanied by an adjustable multi purpose table. To starboard in the salon is a couch and behind the couch is a tv cabinet that contains the hideable tv. Forward of the starboard couch is the lower helm station that contains state of the art glass screen electronics and two stylish helm chairs. 

Owners cabins are accessed via a centerline staircase forward in the salon. As you proceed down the stair case you immediately notice the atrium style design which allows an abundance of light down to the staterooms. Forward is a VIP stateroom with center lined queen birth and entry into a large bath with separate shower. The VIP stateroom has large port and starboard hull side windows allowing natural light into the room. As throughout all of the vessel designer styling and detail is everywhere you look. Moving aft to starboard there is a twin birth stateroom with large hull side windows. The guest stateroom shares a bath with the VIP stateroom and has access to the bath through a door in atrium/hall between the stateroom's. Finally, the owners cabin is located mid ship and is full beam. It’s a stateroom of that seen in much larger vessels. A full walk around queen birth, cabinetry port and starboard, and private bath with separate shower. Not to forget the huge port and starboard hull side windows which bring your beautiful surroundings into the stateroom.

I bought a boat through this broker with any boat there's going to be small issues and you pray no major issues. Joe the boat broker lied on the advertisement about the engine type and engine hours. I was sold a boat that was supposed to be dual 4-stroke Mercury and have 650 hours on both of them. Instead I ended up with dual 2 stroke Mercury with 819 hours on them big difference. On top of this he screwed up my transport by not having the boat ready for pickup it cost me an additional $350. Before the transport even left the state of Florida the tires started to pop on the trailer I ended up having to get new tires in Texas costing me over $1,000 before I even had the boat. On top of that the brake pads on the trailer we're missing. So the transporter had to use up his brakes on his truck towing a 30 foot boat and trailer weighing almost 9000 pounds on triple axle trailer. I give him credit coming across the country all the way to California like that because I took it down the street and it was scary. All in all I spent in the neighborhood of $4,000 before I even launched the boat because of lies and deception. I sent them a bill which I have never received an offer to pay anything or a call to say sorry. I also reported them to the yacht and condominium enforcement in Florida. This matter is probably going to have to be solved in Smalls claim court. I took it out once already seems like the port engine has some issues. Of course im praying there are no other problems. Do not do business with this Joker he is a scam artist and should be put out of business.
