LAUNCH AND RECOVERY LICENCE

Annual launch & recovery licence, we are finally on instagram, follow our account  to find out about availability and to be kept up to date with news, events and more…., littlehampton marina – south coast.

Littlehampton Marina is a family run Marina in West Sussex on the South Coast of England between Brighton and Chichester.

The Marina is situated on the side of the river Arun ten minutes from the open sea, adjacent to the only undeveloped section of the coastline and is both charming and full of character.

The Marina is conveniently located for those looking to meander in their boat up the river to the neighbouring areas of Arundel and Amberley or for those looking to spend a longer period on their boat exploring popular South Coast day trip destinations such as the Isle of Wight or Gunwharf.

Compared to other Marinas in West Sussex, Littlehampton Marina is relatively small (just under 30 acres in size). The main benefit to the Marina being geographically smaller than the majority of its competitors is that the Littlehampton Marina team are able to offer a more personable, intimate service to their customers. For some of the Marina’s longstanding berth holders, the Marina really has become a second home.

Littlehampton Marina in West Sussex is known locally, amongst other things, for its safe, secure and easily accessible boat moorings and dry boat storage.

To find out more about the Marina and the services on offer, call 01903 713553. Read More

Littlehampton Marina has the capacity to offer moorings for up to 120 powered boats across three different pontoons.

Littlehampton Marina offers safe and secure boat storage and jet ski storage across two different dry storage compounds.

  • Marina Services

At Littlehampton Marina, in addition to offering boat moorings and boat storage, we are able offer our customers an extensive range of additional boat services.

  • Marina Facilities

Free WI-FI, Parking, Toilet & showers, Launderette, Marine engineer, Brokerage & Chandlers, 24/7 Security, CCTV, Fuelling pontoon & fuel kiosk.

Moorings & Floating Docks

The majority of the boat moorings here at the Marina are full wet moorings, meaning that they are not restricted by the tide times, however, there are a select number of restricted moorings that we are able to offer to customers who have a boat that measures less than 6m in length.

In addition to moorings for powered boats, Littlehampton Marina also has the ability to accommodate up to ten jet skis on floating docks. Floating docks have grown in popularity over the last couple of years as customers look to maximise the amount of time that they are able to spend on the water (particularly when the good weather arrives). Floating docks not only give jet ski owners 24/7 access to the river, but they also prevent jet skis from experiencing the same wear and tear normally associated with launching and retrieving from the water.

If you are looking for a boat mooring or a floating dock, Littlehampton Marina has the added advantage (compared to other local Marinas) of not having a traditional lock system in place and therefore by choosing to keep your boat or jet ski with us, you can be out at sea, within a matter of minutes….

Boat & Jet Ski Dry Storage

Both of the dry storage compounds are located in central, accessible positions on the Marina and are protected by lockable gates.

In total, the Marina is able to accommodate up to 60 boats or jet skis (on trailers up to 7.5m in length) within these compounds and every boat or jet ski is placed on a well-kept tarmac surface and allocated a numbered bay.

Berth holders who take out either a boat storage or jet ski storage agreement with us benefit from getting all of their launch and recoveries (within our office opening hours) included within the price as well as being able to take advantage of our ‘one weeks free mooring’ offer*

The Marina has become a popular boat storage and jet ski storage facility, largely due to the high level of security and competitive prices it is able to offer.

*subject to application and availability.

Discover our full range of Boat Services

The services that we promote here at the Marina include the launch and recovery of a customer’s boat using our slipway, a boat lift or movement using our industrial hoist and the hull cleaning of a boat using our on-site equipment which takes place at the top of our ramp. The latter service is most commonly requested by berth holders as they prepare their boat for winter storage.

In addition to the services listed above, our Marina serves both unleaded and diesel boat fuel. This fuel is served on our fuel pontoon and is available to both Marina berth holders and visitors alike.

If you are looking to take advantage of one of the boat services listed above (please note that this list is not exhaustive and we offer additional services on a less frequent basis), or indeed would like to find out more about the services we are able to offer at the Marina then please do give us a call.

Visit Littlehampton Marina

Littlehampton Marina has become known locally and by the customers who regularly frequent here as a little bit of a ‘Southern gem’…

Not only can you observe the best sunset in West Sussex by sitting on the decking in the Summer at the on-site restaurant and cafeteria, but as the Marina has evolved over the years, an amalgamation of fantastic local businesses have chosen to establish themselves here. These businesses include a Marine Supply Shop which also sells both new and second-hand boats, a boat workshop which services boats from the dockyard and a wide variety of professional service businesses who now occupy the Marina’s budding new business centre.

In addition to the above, Littlehampton Marina is also home to Arun Self Storage that proudly boasts almost 300 self-storage units suitable for individuals, businesses and removal companies.

As an area, Littlehampton has been described as ‘up and coming’ and the Marina, with its charm, character and countless service offerings is most certainly worth visiting.

BACK DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND...

our annual launch and recovery licence….., testimonials, listen to our customers.

We were looking for a base on the south coast to run a campaign to win the Cowes Torquay powerboat race. We were lucky enough to find Littlehampton Marina, owned and run by the Finnamore family. I can’t speak highly enough about their service and support from the management and all the yard staff. A jewel of a location with a can do attitude.

Keith clarke.

I gave up launching from the beach 20 years ago and settled on Littlehampton Marina as a base for my fishing. I have never regretted that decision. The marina is just a mile upstream from the river entrance which is long enough to give assurance that the engine is running well before going out to sea. Wrecks and fishing abound…..

Arun Yacht Club Ltd

Wayfarer Open

Welcome to arun yacht club.

The Arun Yacht Club is a friendly, family-focused community sailing club founded in 1956 and is situated on the west bank of the River Arun in Littlehampton, West Sussex. The club is run by volunteer members and we like to think of ourselves as the premier club for yachting, dinghy sailing and learning to sail in Sussex. Come along to our club Open Day and join in the fun.

Please read an important news item here  https://arunyc.co.uk/important-message-covid19-update/ -->

Dinghy Sailing

Arun Yacht Club is a sea sailing club with the fall-back of river sailing if conditions at sea are unsuitable. There is a busy year-round programme of dinghy racing - sea sailing from Easter to Christmas, with river sailing from Christmas to Easter. Based in Littlehampton Harbour and launching from the secure dinghy compound over a firm, sandy beach into the River Arun - from there it is a short sail through the harbour arms to the open sea.

Cruiser Sailing

Arun Yacht Club is just ten minutes from the sea and four hours sailing time from the Solent. We are also an ideal starting point for cruises to the east or south, with many of our regular sailors making passages to Normandy, Brittany and the Channel Islands. We have a clubhouse bar and restaurant and there are organised club races and cruises during the summer months.

Social Hospitality and Venue

The Arun Yacht Club overlooks the River Arun and Littlehampton from the west bank with unrivalled views of Littlehampton Harbour - a great place for our members to sit and watch the world go by whilst enjoying great food and reasonably priced drinks from the bar. It is also a great place for holding your party or wedding reception. Please get in touch with our office if you would like more details.

Arun Yacht club is an Royal Yachting Association recognised training centre. We offer a variety of sail training, powerboat, navigation, and other shore based courses for both adults and young people. The programme centres around sailing instruction for cadets on Saturday mornings, youth sailing weeks, and adult instruction on evenings and weekends. Powerboat and other shore based courses take place mainly at the weekends.

Visitors guide to Littlehampton for boat owners

  • December 12, 2018

Paul Power extols the virtues of his West Sussex hometown as a great stopover destination for sailors on the South Coast of England

Littlehampton

For visitors a long pontoon is located below the Littlehampton Harbour Board building, rafting-up during busy times

Described by Vogue magazine as one of the coolest seaside resorts in Britain, this seaside town nestled along the south east coastline is enjoying a new lease of life following decades of declining fortune.

Situated between the port of Shoreham and Chichester Harbour, Littlehampton Harbour has undergone considerable investment and regeneration in the past 10 years and provides a welcome stop-over point for many boats traveling to or returning from the Solent or further afield.

The historic harbour, where many of the 800 or so Hillyard yachts were built, is enjoying a new lease of life with the iconic Thomas Heatherwick-designed East Beach Café, as well as what was – for a brief period – the world’s longest bench.

Littlehampton 9

Littlehampton’s sculputural and award-winning East Beach Cafe is a destination in itself

Close to the Cathedral town of Arundel, Littlehampton welcomes visitors from all over the world each summer, with many visiting boats from Holland and France.

Old dilapidated buildings have been demolished and replaced with smart new waterfront residences on the east side of the harbour with ambitious plans for the west bank area, including proposals for a new marina. A new public walkway links the town centre to the seafront courtesy of a joint £22.5m regeneration project by the Environment Agency and local councils.

Littlehampton 7

It’s not always as quiet as this: follow the harbour master’s advice and listen on Ch71 for local traffic

Entering the harbour

Visiting Littlehampton by boat is relatively straightforward. First-timers are recommended to arrive from High Water -2 to +1 hour. Beware that the spring ebb stream can reach five knots.

Harbourmaster Billy Johnson advises sailors to tune into Ch71 for harbour traffic news and follow any instructions.

The level of Littlehampton bar which extends 600m southwards from the end of the West Pier is 0.7m above chart datum.

The depth of water covering the bar can be calculated by subtracting 0.9m from the water height indicated on the harbour tide boards. Tide boards are marked in 20cm units and coloured white, red, black, red, black. On approach, the tide board on the west pierhead can be read from sea using binoculars. Consideration should be given to the sea state and allowance made for swell over the bar.

From 1.5 hours before until 4 hours after high water, a westerly stream runs across the harbour entrance. The easterly stream begins 1.5 hours before low water and continues until 2 hours before high water.

On closing the harbour from seaward, a safe approach can be made by bringing the leading lights into line on a bearing of 346° True. From abeam the west pierhead, a course favouring the east side of the fairway should be made for the deeper water and to allow for the effect of the strong westerly set. Once past the east pierhead, keep the flashing green light on Fisherman’s Quay ahead while keeping to the starboard side of the mid-channel.

Inside the main harbour, visitor moorings are on the east side, on the pontoon below the Littlehampton Harbour Board offices. During busy periods be prepared to raft. Showers and toilets are within the harbour office, accessed by a code entry system. Electricity and water is provided. Fuel is available at Littlehampton Marina. A retractable footbridge has 3.6m clearance at Mean High Water Springs (MHWS is 5.9m at Littlehampton) and gives access for masted craft. It is opened by request to the Harbour Office before 1630 the previous day.

The marina also offers visitor moorings, quiet berthing and excellent onsite facilities including a popular restaurant.

Littlehampton 4

Alfresco dining and a variety of cafés make for a pleasant experience

Littlehampton offers a variety of restaurants and pubs serving food. Along Pier Road, Mussel Row restaurant has an excellent reputation for fish dishes. My own personal favourite, the Raj Doot Indian restaurant, stays open late. The Gravy Boat offers a carvery with great harbour views. The Empress Bar is located directly above the visitor moorings. For take-away fish and chips, try Fred’s or Oscars. Seated dining is available in the River Breeze restaurant.

Continue along the riverside walkway and the popular Arun View Inn serves lunch and evening meals seven days a week. Pre-booking is advised.

The town centre is just a short walk away and offers Italian, Portuguese, Jamaican, Chinese and Indian foods. The Portuguese Grill sells a range of delicious fresh pastries and wraps. Fish lovers should check out the Fish Factory in East Street.

East Beach Cafe

This amazing structure, inspired by the sea, came about by accident when entrepreneur Jane Wood and her daughter Sophie purchased a holiday home on Littlehampton seafront overlooking an unimaginative local-authority let seafront café. When the then café owners applied for planning permission Jane was dismayed with their extension plans so purchased the business and building, which she demolished. She commissioned renowned architect Thomas Heatherwick to design something amazing, and East Beach Cafe was born.

Since opening, the café has won a number of prestigious design awards and is popular for its wonderful fresh food and uninterrupted views over the English Channel. It’s this building that attracted the attention of Vogue magazine.

Littlehampton 8

Shopping and Provisioning

The family-run Riverside Fish Kiosk has an amazing fresh fish display. I’d recommend their dressed crab and prepared lobster. Jamie Oliver sourced brown crab for the barbecue from this kiosk when filming for his new TV show. It is located on the main walkway in Pier Road opposite the junction with Arun Parade.

The town centre is where you’ll find a number of supermarkets and pharmacies. A large Tesco is a little further out of the town centre, just past the train station. Littlehampton enjoys excellent train links to all towns along the coast with London Victoria only 90 minutes away.

Littlehampton town museum is worth visiting, entry is free.

Book lovers should visit Fireside Bookshop, which stocks many rare titles. It’s located in the covered arcade alongside an independent fresh fruit and vegetable shop.

Famous residents

David Hillyard established his boatbuilding business in Littlehampton during World War I and built small vessels for the Admiralty. When the war ended, he began building wooden yachts for the private leisure market and somewhere between 600 and 800 magnificent Hillyard yachts were built in Littlehampton before the business went into administration in 2009.

Bodyshop founder, the late Dame Anita Roddick, grew up and lived in Littlehampton where she started her first business, an upmarket bistro.

Ronnie Barker had a holiday home along South Terrace. Around the corner was Coopers convenience store, where many believe he based his comedy Open All Hours. Although this is disputed, Coopers was open all hours and Ronnie was a regular customer, even turning up at 2am looking to buy an air pump for his lido as he was going on holiday later that morning. James Bond author, Ian Fleming, was an intelligence officer and worked with the specialist 30 Assault Unit based in the Marine Public House in Selborne Road during World War II. The pub closed in 2008 but a blue plaque marks its past.

Littlehampton 1

West Beach is a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of the main beach

Littlehampton has two separate beach areas divided by the River Arun. The main and busiest beach is the East Beach, where you’ll find the East Beach Cafe and Harbour Park amusement centre. During the summer, a train runs along the length of the promenade. Alternatively walk along the seafront, past the café where you’ll find the departure point for the Littlehampton Miniature Railway. Take a trip on the miniature railway to Mewsbrook Park where you’ll find another café. A new swimming pool is due to open in Easter 2019.

West Beach is Littlehampton’s sandiest beach and provides a quieter and welcome break from the busy seafront area. Here you’ll find the remains of a Napoleonic Fort, currently being restored. The beach has sand dunes and is the place to enjoy a swim and a picnic. During the summer months a passenger foot ferry can take you across the river. Alternatively, a pleasant walk along the riverside and across the red, opening foot bridge takes you the West Beach area, also home to Arun Yacht Club.

The Oyster Pond dates back to the 1880s and is one of Littlehampton’s oldest features. Located just off the new walkway on Arun Parade, it was built to store the fishermen’s oyster catch. Today it’s a pedal boat lake and home to a model boating club. The pond is topped up by the River Arun at high tide via underground piping.

On the seafront, the Windmill Cinema doubles up as a theatre.

The RNLI station and gift shop is regularly open to the public with volunteer guides available to provide tours.

Littlehampton 2

Lifeboat launches from the slipway. Viewing tower café is due to change ownership and should be re-opened for the 2019 season

Nearby towns

The cathedral city of Arundel is only five miles away and buses run every hour from Anchor Springs in Littlehampton. There’s a lovely walk along the west side of the River Arun to Arundel, with a stop off at the Ship & Anchor pub, just past Ford.

Arundel Castle, home to the Duke of Norfolk, offers fabulous gardens and magnificent views across the River Arun and West Sussex landscape but make sure you allow plenty of time. There’s a lot to see and it’s relatively expensive so you’ll want to make a day of it.

You can also walk along the River Arun to Swanbourne Lake and back across some beautiful countryside to emerge out just in front of Arundel Cathedral, which is also well worth visiting. Or continue along the River Arun to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Wetland Centre. The centre has a café and offers free electric boat safaris.

Arundel has a museum, quaint shops and restaurants. The town also has its own brewery with a shop by the river and a micro pub located in the Norfolk Arms hotel.

Harbor commission examines mooring use by Wickford club

The Wickford Yacht Club is appealing a decision by the head of the harbor division that would strip the club of one of its moorings.

The harbor commission heard the appeal at its May 8 meeting. According to executive director Stephen Bois, his goal this season is to do a “better job managing our mooring assets.” While the yacht club leases three moorings in Dutch Harbor, he said they sat empty for most of 2023. There are more than 100 people on the waitlist for a mooring at West Ferry.

“In our observations in the summer, I don’t recall ever seeing a Wickford Yacht Club boat on the three Wickford moorings,” he said.

Bois has since resigned from his position.

Wickford Yacht Club is one of five yacht clubs to have moorings in Dutch Harbor. Bois said they are required to provide him with a list of the boats that intend to use the moorings for the season. No list was provided last year by Wickford until December, he added.

littlehampton yacht club moorings

“This is so the harbormasters would know that it’s a Wickford boat,” he said. “It’s not a pirate.”

John Hughes, representing the yacht club, however, refuted Bois’ claim about the club not using the moorings. He said there were 135 trips to Jamestown in 2023 with each of the moorings accommodating a boat 45 times.

“I think there’s some confusion about the moorings in question,” Hughes said. “We want to cooperate in any way that we can. We appreciate his concerns. … These moorings are extremely popular with our members. They are so popular that we pay the Dutch Harbor marina to provide a launch service back and forth from the island.”

Hughes said the club will do a better job in the upcoming season about tracking the club’s usage of the moorings. His club, moreover, requires boats to fly the Wickford Yacht Club burgee when they are moored to ensure they aren’t being pirated. The goal, he said, was to make changes “to make sure we are in compliance with the letter and spirit of your ordinance.”

The harbor commission continued the matter. Hughes said he will try to present evidence of his club’s usage of the moorings in 2023 to illustrate its need for them.
