Flavio Briatore appeals tax fraud conviction over use of yacht Force Blue

Flavio Briatore, the Italian tycoon and former boss of the Benetton and Renault F1 racing teams, is appealing a recent sentence to 23 months in prison for tax evasion.

The sentence, which was handed down by the Italian courts, relates to the entrepreneur’s use of superyacht Force Blue , bought by Briatore for just under £70m in 2009 from Roy Speer, the American founder of Home Shopping Network.

The Italian Financial Police boarded and sequestrated Force Blue back in 2010 just over five years ago in May 2010 in La Spezia, near Genoa on the Italian Riviera. The reason for the action and subsequent charge was the accusation that Briatore had not paid the appropriate amount of taxes on the fuel used by the yacht.

The action eventually resulted in a court case and Briatore’s conviction for tax evasion of €3.5 million. Briatore denied the charges and his lawyers have launched an immediate appeal against his sentence.

He disputed the authority’s charge that Force Blue was entirely for his personal use and that of his friends and family. The prosecution in turn pointed out that the yacht was registered to a charter company in a tax haven and that the company enjoyed a number of tax breaks that would not have been eligible for a single owner and personal use. They also pointed out that everything on the boat from the bed linen to the crockery had the initials FB on them. The defence pointed out that these were the initials of the yacht and that it is known that all big charter boats contents and furnishings bear the logo or initials of a boat.

In a high profile career, Briatore has often courted controversy and his personal life has occasionally played out in the glare of publicity. He was banned for life – later successfully overturned on appeal – by the F1 authorities following accusations that he had deliberately orchestrated a crash at the 2008 Singapore grand prix.

The appeal continues.

A tax evasion probe involving former F1 personality Flavio Briatore has finally ended.

The case goes all the way back to 2010, when Italian police seized the former Renault boss' 63-metre super-yacht called Force Blue.

It centred mainly around the ownership of the yacht - a company in the British Islands that allegedly then rented it out to Briatore for a saving of EUR 3.6 million euros in VAT and EUR 800,000 in fuel taxes.

However, a court in Genoa on Wednesday acquitted 71-year-old Briatore.

"After 12 years and six trials, my innocence is finally established," Briatore is quoted by Het Nieuwsblad. "Fortunately, this ordeal is over."

Force Blue, estimated to be worth EUR 20 million, was bought by Briatore's friend and former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone last year.

Briatore's lawyer Massimo Pelliccotta told Ansa news agency: "This outcome is unacceptable, because the yacht was sold before the completion of the proceedings.

"Now both the yacht's new owner and Briatore have the right to demand adequate compensation."

She’s got them green with envy.

Heidi Klum’s 19-year-old daughter, Leni Klum, is continuing to show off her busty physique in sexy swimwear while vacationing in the South of France.

In exclusive photos obtained by Page Six, the teen was spotted on a luxury yacht — owned by her dad, Italian businessman Flavio Briatore — with her boyfriend, Aris Rachevsky, near Cannes on Friday.

For the sunny outing, Leni wore a strappy green thong bikini and pair of sunglasses.

At one point, the model and her beau shared a kiss and they laid out to catch some sun rays on the pricey vessel.

Leni was also spotted rinsing herself off aboard the yacht and taking pictures of her friends.

Earlier this week, Leni was spotted jumping into the water with friends off her dad’s yacht while wearing a blue terry two-piece from Frankies Bikinis.

The  sold-out style  featured a classic triangle top and matching thong bottom, which both have orange piping.

Leni seems to be following in her mother’s footsteps, as the German model famously loves to show off her toned body in sexy swimwear .

Klum also is known to  show off her abs  on vacation, even  ditching her bikini top  during an Italian trip with her husband, Tom Kaulitz.

Leni, who is the eldest daughter of Klum and Briatore, was also adopted by singer Seal — who was married to the supermodel from 2005 to 2014 — in 2009.

And though she comes from a famous lineage, she doesn’t want anyone to doubt her work.

“It’s just a fact. My parents are famous,” the Dior Beauty ambassador told People in October, referring to the nepo baby debate. “I did get help starting off, and I know that people would dream to start off with what I had.

“I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to take what was gifted to me by my mom. But I am doing the work and putting in the time.”Now I’m working on my own, traveling alone, going to school. My mom and I just have the same love for the same thing.”

An incredible cake was made for the occasion. 

The Italian entrepreneur blew out his 73rd candle at the Cova Monte-Carlo pastry shop in the Larvotto district on Wednesday 12 April. In a photo posted on his Instagram account, the Monegasque resident posed alongside his ex-wife, Elisabetta Gregoraci, with whom he is on good terms, and his son Nathan Falco.

In the same shot, a fabulous multi-tiered cake illustrated Flavio Briatore’s biggest investments, from Formula 1 to the most famous clubs and restaurants such as Twiga or Cova.

After wishing him a happy birthday, model Elisabetta Gregoraci took the opportunity to tease the businessman, posting a photo of them together in an Instagram story, where she wrote: “20 anni che ti supporto e sopporto”. This means: “I have been supporting and putting up with you for 20 years.”

Heidi Klum 's daughter Leni is enjoying a luxurious, sun-kissed getaway to the South of France .

The model, 19, was spotted basking in the sun in a tiny bikini on board her father Flavio Briatore's yacht on Wednesday.

Leni was having the time of her life hanging out with friends, lounging about the vessel, and splashing into the water.

She looked stunning in a blue and orange string triangle bikini which tied at her hip and back.

Leni, 19, is the daughter of model Heidi Klum , 50, and Italian businessman Flavio, 73, though her former stepfather Seal adopted her many years ago.

Heidi, who has been in Italy as of late, is now married to Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaultiz.

Leni has been following in her mother's modeling footsteps, and displayed her statuesque body as she frolicked about the luxury yacht with her friends.

Her father also enjoyed some fun in the sun as he hung out on the deck in his blue swimming trunks with sunnies shading his eyes.

Leni has had a strong career so far.

Her modeling career kicked off two years ago when she appeared on the cover of Vogue Germany.

And Heidi was thrilled.

'I'm so proud of you. And not because you chose this path. I know that no matter which way you go, it will be your own,' she wrote in German on social media.

'You always know exactly what you want and what you don't want. You are not a mini-me. And I'm happy for you that you can now show who YOU ​​are.'

She has gone on to work with Versace and Dior.

She did become embroiled in controversy when she took part in a lingerie shoot with her mother Heidi for Intrimissi.

Flavio previously admitted he no longer had a relationship with Leni after allowing Seal to adopt her, though the pair clearly have reconnected and are on good terms.

'Leni is my natural daughter, but the three of us happily agreed that it made more sense if Seal adopted her, because a child needs to grow up in a family,' Flavio - who has son Nathan with ex-wife Elisabetta Gregoraci - told Italy's Il Corriere della Sera in 2016.

'Heidi, Seal and I have built an amazing relationship,' he added.

'It's hard to miss a baby that you never see. But I know that Leni is not an abandoned child. Leni is part of Seal's family and Nathan is part of mine.'

Leni - who was born Helene Klum - used to speak to her father on the phone for two hours a day but he insists it 'wasn't enough' and Heidi and Seal raised her.

The businessman explained: 'Leni was born when Heidi and I had already spilt. Heidi was living in Los Angeles and I was in London, the distance between us was unbridgeable.

'We used to speak on the phone two hours a day, but it wasn't enough. She needed to stay with her mum. Then, Heidi started to date Seal and he raised her.'

Last year, Leni responded to online allegations that she is a 'nepo baby', the term used to describe the offspring of celebrities.

The social media personality, who boasts 2 million followers on Instagram, left home last year to move to New York City to begin her first year of college.

Heidi discussed her feelings to be far away from her daughter during an interview on The Late Late Show With James Cordon.

'It's so sad,' the America's Got Talent judge admitted. 'This weekend, she just moved in, and I call her. Normally she picks up, but then three, four hours I don't hear anything.'

'And already, my head is going 'Where is she? What is she doing? Why is she not answering?' Already the worrying is starting,' Heidi revealed.

The supermodel stated that, at one point, she had called Leni every two hours. 'Now I want the number of the roommate, so I can bug the roommate if she doesn't pick up,' Heidi stated humorously.

Das vierte Bild in der Reihe zeigt Leni Klum (19) im grauen Sportoutfit und mit weißen Socken an der Seite ihres leiblichen Vaters Briatore. Auf dessen anderer Seite steht sein Sohn Nathan Falcon Briatore, der seinen 14. Geburtstag feiert. "Buon compleanno", schreibt Briatore zu dem Foto, "Alles Gute zum Geburtstag". Außerdem ist das Posting mit einem roten Herz versehen sowie den Worten "ti amiamo", auf Deutsch: "Wir lieben dich".
