Range & Performance

Built with a wood hull and wood superstructure, with teak decks, she has impressive speed and great efficiency thanks to her planing hull. Powered by twin diesel MTU (Series 2000) 2,600hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 30 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 44 knots with a range of up to 900 nautical miles from her 3,300 gallon fuel tanks at 30 knots. Her low draft of 1.5m/4'11" makes her primed for accessing shallow areas and cruising close to the shorelines. Her water tanks store around 500 Gallons of fresh water.

NO VACANCY: 100 Broward Motoryacht Walkthrough

Today we’re on the Gulf Coast of Florida in Fort Myers to show you through this 100′ Broward Motor Yacht, named NO VACANCY . She has a 4-stateroom, 5-head layout, the preferred CAT 3412 engines and an impressive list of upgrades. Welcome onboard.

We’ll begin our tour here on the flybridge. It’s a fantastic space with tons of room for everyone. The aft section contains a 17-foot Key West skiff and is handled by a Marc Webb davit with 2,000 pounds of capacity. This flybridge offers plenty of room for entertaining with seating everywhere you look. In 2017, the owner replaced the Bimini top and installed all-new cushions here.

A wet bar lives further forward fitted with a sink and new Uline fridge and ice maker. All the way forward on the bridge, we come to the upper helm station. A wide bench gives you more than enough room to join the captain. The electronics were also recently upgraded, Garmin glass bridge suite that also included new Glendinning fly-by-wire controls.

From here, you can go down into the pilot house but we’re going to move down the aft spiral staircase to check out the aft deck. There are boarding gates to either side, and two Korean dining tables with wraparound bench seating. And then forward here to the portside is a wet bar complete with sink, commercial mini-fridge and sportsman ice maker.

From the aft deck, we can access the transom on the starboard side. This area is perfect when you’re at anchor, giving you plenty of space for water activities. You can find our primary access to the crew quarters and engine room here. But we’re going to come back here later. From the stern, we’ll come back into the aft deck before moving into the salon.

The salon is full beam with a completely open layout. It’s simple with laminate hardwood floors and neutral colors. To the portside, we have a comfortable seating area and just forward is a cozy office desk. Across from here to starboard, you have additional seating and this is where you begin to notice the massive windows throughout the main deck.

Forward in the salon is your formal dining area and there’s also another wet bar with sink beneath this huge LED TV. It’s also important to note that you can board the boat amidships on both sides. Near the starboard boarding door, you’ll find a day head. If we continue forward, we’ll find a staircase to the pilot house. In the aft section we have an elevated settee. Now you can access this pilot house from the port side, the starboard side and like we mentioned before, from up on the flybridge. The helm features pretty much everything we saw up on the flybridge including the new Garmin glass bridge electronics, GPS, chartplotter, radar, autopilot – all the good stuff.

We’re going to move down from the pilot house on the starboard side and continue forward. We walk into the famous country kitchen that Broward is well known for. Again, you’ll find massive windows on both sides that keep you connected to your environment wherever you are. The galley has everything you’ll need for long term cruising including a side-by-side, full-size fridge freezer with an additional Subzero freezer, cook top, microwave, wine cooler and trash compactor.

Further forward is a big dinette that completes this space and offers a less formal dining option. From the galley, we have a staircase forward to the starboard side that takes us down to the private VIP stateroom. With a centerline queen, storage under the berth, there’s a settee at the aft located near a cedar line closet and your ensuite head.

Now let’s go back into the salon to the port side where we can find the access to the other three staterooms. The master is located forward from here but we’re going to move aft into the guest staterooms first. The port stateroom here has two berths, a full and a twin, lots of storage and an ensuite head further aft. The starboard stateroom layout is similar but here you have opposing twin beds instead.

Now forward from here we walk into the full beam master stateroom, king-size bed with storage beneath and his and hers cedar-lined closets. The master head is forward and is also his and hers and it’s anchored by this walk in marble shower. Now let’s move back to the transom where we can access our crew quarters and mechanical space. There are two crew cabins here, the captain’s cabin to port and another crew stateroom to starboard and there’s also a head and shower to starboard as well. Forward from here we enter into the engine room. She’s powered by CAT 3412 with 1350 horsepower each.

Come and take a look at “No Vacancy” a hybrid sport cruiser. Overnight capabilities for 4 adults and a full head but retains the open air bowrider entertainment style. Great seating for all to enjoy a day on the water, Sureshade electric awning to get out the sun and a large overhead skylight in the hardtop. “No Vacancy” is powered with the preferred Mercruiser 6.2 350hp engines complete with joystick control and skyhook.

The bow area 3 across forward facing seats have upscale treatments to the upholstery, padded head rests and flip down arm rests. To starboard is a stereo remote, connectivity under the arm rest, a beverage holder just forward, and a speaker. A cockpit table has dedicated storage in the walk-through port side.

The cockpit has an L-Shaped seating that runs across the port side with grab rails underneath and beverage holders behind the corner. Upscale treatments are in the upholstery trim, the custom embroidery, and the multiple densities of dry fast foam. A pedestal base accommodates the cockpit table. Storage is under all the seats and includes dedicated space for a 36 qt. carry on cooler. The observer’s seat is a flip seat back to convert from forward facing to aft. Opposing seating is to starboard. The stereo amps and DC circuit breakers are underneath. A cockpit bar area is aft of the starboard seating and features a refrigerator, sink and cockpit grill. Overhead is a fiberglass hardtop with skylight and electric retractable Sureshade. Courtesy lights recessed in the hardtop as well as underwater.

The cabin features a convertible dinette with storage below seats. Extremely large mid cabin berth and a fully enclosed stand up head. The V-Berth seating offers 3’7” headroom and flanks the dinette table. An optional 24” TV is forward on the bulkhead. A fridge and microwave are aft and to port of the seating. The head includes mirror cabinet, window with opening port, sink, storage vanity, Vacuflush toilet is plumbed to a 28-Gallon holding tank. A separate shower wand just to the left of the sink creates a wet head. A curtain track overhead for the shower curtain helps keep the toilet and vanity dry.

I cruised the BVI’s on my first bareboat charters and later skippered two bareboat charters, Croatia (2016) and Greece (2017). I enjoy sailing and powerboating on small to larger vessels. I have certifications with the ASA-American Sailing Association, the RPBA-Recreational Power Boat Association, US Powerboating, and the NSBC-National Safe Powerboating Council. The ASA IPC-International Proficiency Certificate is the credentials needed o be a bareboat skipper around the world. I am instructor qualified to teach ASA certifications and RPBA-Recreational Powerboat Association, US Powerboating, and BoatUS/NSBC instructor certified to teach powerboating certifications. I currently hold a USCG 100 Ton Master Captain license. In 2019 I started Florida Sailing and Powerboating School and Charters. I became a licensed Florida Boat Broker in 2019. I have been a licensed pilot since 1979 with an instrument rating, and jet aircraft endorsements.

My name is Captain Rick Weiler and I’m a USCG licensed 100 ton master with sailing and towing endorsements (now retired). I’ve worked as a master carpenter, construction manager and in home sales for over 25 years in Northern Michigan. Since moving to Texas in 2006, I’ve pursued my passion in boating and have worked as a yacht broker with LYS since January of 2011.  I’ve been a Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) since 2014 and have been an involved member of the Yacht Brokers Association of American (YBAA). In our local chapter of YBAA, the Gulf Coast Yacht Brokers Association (GCYBA), I’ve been an active member as well as serving as President for several terms.

I’ve spent 35 years of my life in Northern Michigan in the Traverse City area on the coast of Lake Michigan. I taught myself how to sail when I was 12 years old and have been sailing ever since. I started by sailing dinghies, Wind Surfers (the very first ones) and Hobie Cats and I’ve owned a Hunter 23, a Newport 27, Island Packet 31 and a Hardin Voyager 44 ketch which I lived aboard for 7 years. I’ve sailed all over northern Lake Michigan. I kept my boat in the North Channel of Lake Huron for three years (this is one of the 10 most beautiful areas in the world to cruise!). I’ve been on many deliveries of friends’ boats in the Great Lakes, up and down the East Coast, Chesapeake Bay, Gulf of Mexico and most recently, throughout the Caribbean Islands. I have extensive experience with modern sailing Catamarans, logging nearly 10,000 miles offshore on them. I can share with you my experiences on these very popular vessels.

As a professional Captain, I’ve gotten to work on a 191 ton Tow Boat pushing tanker barges through the Galveston Bay, ICW up to New Orleans and up the Mississippi to Baton Rouge and the Atchafalaya River. I also spent two years working for Coastal Crewboats on a 42’ crew boat running workers and supplies to the wells and production platforms in Galveston Bay.

I have the professional and personal experience to assist you in selling and buying your new yacht, regardless of whether it is a 25’ sailboat or a 100’+ Mega yacht, located here in Galveston Bay or located in a foreign country . I bring the necessary skills and background to get the job done.

Jerry Webb has joined LYS to staff our Port Aransas sales office. Jerry brings with him over 40+ years of sport fishing experience starting out in High School as a deck hand to owning four Bertrams (25-35’) of his own some of which were Captain Chartered personally by him.

He holds a Masters 100 Ton Captains License (7th issue) and has been the Past President of the Boatmen Inc, a charter boat captain association, in Port Aransas as well as a Past Flotilla Commander for the USCG Auxiliary as well as on the Marina Board for the City of Corpus Christi.

Capt Jerry has over 18 years in Yacht Sales and is extremely knowledgeable about sport fishing boats of all sizes and types from Bertrams, Vikings and Hatteras to the newer center console twin outboard models including the new cat hull styled boats as well. I’m a retired Accredited Marine Surveyor with over 20 years of experience inspecting all types of sailboats, (monohull, catamaran and trimaran) and power boats ( Express Cruisers, Motor Yachts, Trawlers, Performance racing boats, Sport Fish, and Yachts up to 98 feet). A lot of you will know Capt Bill Olson as he has worked for LYS as a delivery captain moving our clients boats around the globe for over 10 years. Bill is going to head up a Florida division of LYS just north of Fort Lauderdale. “Captain Bill”, as everyone calls him, also has his Florida Brokers License under our LYS brokerage license-#1815.

“I don’t know why it’s so hard to get people to believe in the movie I wanted to make. … I don’t think anybody’s else’s movie is better than mine. I made it for people.”

“It’s a pattern that happens with me — with Dances With Wolves, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Open Range — the things I want to make are harder to make,” he said.

“My problem is that I don’t fall out of love with something that’s good,” said the filmmaker-actor about the projects he keeps in lengthy development.

“I’d like to come back here with my third movie,” said Costner about a future return to Cannes with Horizon Chapter 3.

Costner has already shot three days of part 3. “I’m trying to make the third one. I knocked on every boat in Cannes to help me. The guys say, ‘C’mon, we’ll get a picture.’ I said. ‘No, get your checkbook out.’ “

He quipped to the press room that everyone should stand “in front of one boat” and not “let the riche people off.”

He also joked about the whole notion of hitting the red carpet at Cannes, “I use to get no money to do this, then I got paid a lot of money to do this, now I need to pay my own money to do this.”

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1  is due to hit theaters June 28 via Warner Bros, with the second coming on its heels August 16. Costner  told Deadline recently that  Chapter 3  began production  this month.

The three-hour movie received an 11-minute, 40-second standing ovation last night at its Cannes world premiere.

Costner teased that Chapter 4 of Horizon will see a big presence by Native Americans in the story.

Killer whales attack and sink sailing yacht in the Strait of Gibraltar — again

A sailing yacht sunk in the Strait of Gibraltar on Sunday after an unknown number of orcas  slammed into the vessel with two people on board and caused a water leak, officials said. Both crew members were rescued by a passing oil tanker, said Spain's maritime rescue service, marking the latest killer whale attack on a boat in what has become a pattern in recent years.

The incident happened at around 9 a.m. local time in the narrow strait between Spain and Morocco that has become a notorious site of human interactions with pods of killer whales that, for reasons still not fully understood, ram into boats and at times even sink them . In this case, crew members on board the SV Alboran Cognac yacht put out an emergency call for an evacuation after they encountered orcas roughly 14 miles off the coast of Cape Spartel. 

The crew members reported feeling blows to the hull of the vessel and rudder, which was damaged by the whales, the rescue service said. The agency's coordination center in Tarifa, on the Spanish side of the Strait of Gibraltar, helped arrange for their evacuation via the tanker MT Lascaux. The tanker was able to collect the crew members from the sinking yacht within the hour, and they disembarked in Gibraltar before 10:30 a.m. They abandoned the SV Alboran Cognac, which proceeded to completely disappear into the ocean.

Anyone sailing through waters from the Gulf of Cádiz in southern Spain and the Strait of Gibraltar, either in a larger motorized vessel or a personal sailing boat, is advised to avoid certain areas that the maritime rescue service marks as potentially dangerous spots for orca interactions. The greatest threats exist between May and August, when officials say that pods of killer whales are most commonly seen in those parts of the Atlantic. 

But previously recorded incidents suggest those dangers may be present at any time. Last October, a Polish boat touring company reported that a pod of orcas had managed to sink one of its yachts after repeatedly slamming into the steering fin for 45 minutes, causing it to leak. Last June, two sailing teams competing in an international race around the world reported frightening scenarios in which multiple orcas rammed into or pushed up against their boats or as they sailed west of Gibraltar. 

No one on board any of the vessels was hurt in those encounters, but the documented rise in confrontational behavior has researchers and sailors trying to determine why orcase have attempted to sink or capsize so many boats off the coasts of Spain and Portugal. 

Some sailors have even resorted to blasting thrash metal music in a bid to deter the apex predators.

Reports of orcas interacting with humans have more than tripled in the last two years or so, according to the research group GTOA, which has documented hundreds of such incidents in the region since 2020. But some of the latest data points to possible changes in the orcas' etiquette, with the group reporting only 26 interactions in the Strait of Gibraltar and Bay of Biscay areas between January and May of this year. That number is 65% lower than the number of interactions recorded in the region over the same months last year, and 40% lower than the average number of interactions recorded in the same months between 2021 and 2023, according to GTOA.

With New Jersey's judicial vacancies at their lowest level since 2019, state Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner has ended the suspension of civil and matrimonial trials in Passaic County.

The move signals the end of a crisis that created unprecedented gridlock across the Garden State's legal and judicial landscapes.

Rabner implemented the moratorium in Passaic County in July 2023 — much as he had done elsewhere — but Monday’s decision means there are now no suspended trials in New Jersey. Rabner said this is because of the recent judicial appointments to the Superior Court in the vicinage.

“We respectfully urge that the remaining vacancies in the vicinage be filled and offer to assist the legislative and executive branches with that important concern,” Rabner said.

Natalie Hamilton, a spokesperson for the Gov. Phil Murphy, said he is "pleased to see that civil and matrimonial trials have resumed in Passaic County and can now occur in all 21 counties throughout the state."

"The governor and the [state] Senate have worked tirelessly to cut the number of Superior Court vacancies in half over the last 16 months," Hamilton said. "Governor Murphy looks forward to driving the number of vacancies down even further to support the state’s judiciary and to best serve the residents of New Jersey."

Recent confirmations lower record vacancies

The state Senate confirmed a dozen new judges at its voting session last month to bring the number of vacancies on the bench to 38, the lowest since before the pandemic.

In New Jersey, judges serve for an initial seven-year term and can be renominated for tenure, which allows them to sit on the bench until they reach the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Potential jurists are presented to the governor's office for consideration by members of the state Senate from both parties. These possible nominees are given a questionnaire, interviewed by the governor's office and subjected to background checks of their financial, medical, criminal and educational history that require approval from the Attorney General's Office. They then face a judicial advisory panel, including former members of the state Supreme Court, which determines whether the nominees are qualified.

Rabner suspended civil and divorce cases in Cumberland and Gloucester counties early last year but reopened them in July. Cases in Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties were suspended last year and reopened last month.

The judicial shortage had been steadily building in recent years, reaching a critical mass last May with 75 seats on Superior Court benches empty.
