Palma de Mallorca Cathedral - Balearic Islands of Spain

Cathedral Santa Maria

Join your yacht at Palma Club del Mar . Palma, the capital city of the island of Mallorca , has long been a yachting haven. Sitting on the Bay of Palma, the city is overlooked by the 13th century medieval Cathedral Santa Maria, a beautiful site at night when lit. Palma Old Town is right behind the cathedral, laid out in little streets at hint at the Moorish history.

Due to the great geographic position that Mallorca possesses at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea and the protection offered by the Bay of Palma, the area was fought over for centuries and from the 900’s to the early 1200’s, Palma was under Muslim rule, reflections of which can be seen in the city architecture today. Next to the Cathedral is the Palace de l’Almudaina, whose interior gardens, laid out in Moorish style, are a great location in the late afternoon for a cooling visit. Castell de Bellver Castle, started in the 1300’s, is open and contains the Palma Museum of History. Within a 16th century fort is the Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Shopping is terrific in Palma with many chic boutiques and shops, and many – given the Spanish interest in leather – shoe shops. Overnight dockside. Enjoy nightlife in Old Town and along the harbor front.

Cabrera Island Balearic Islands Spain

Cabrera Island

Today enjoy a day trip to Cabrera Island . A National Park island in a small archipelago just off Cabrera, this island has a long history; however, was closed as a military location from WWI to the 1980’s. In 1981, the island and the entire Cabrera Archipelago were declared a National Park.

For bird watchers, visiting this National Park is a must. Due to being a National Park, with protected waters, expect to see dolphins, sea turtles and sometimes whales. To reduce any human impact only a one-day pass is allowed to visit the archipelago. Enjoy hiking, swimming, snorkeling, and visiting the small castle and lighthouse ashore. Return to Palma to overnight dockside at the Real Club Nautico, to enjoy Palma nightlife.

Les Salinas Mallorca Spain yacht charter

Les Salinas

Cruise to Les Salinas , the famous salt flats on Mallorca with great long sandy beaches. Stop for lunch. This area has a rich history and was long prized for the production of salt. Today the town of Ses Salinas is a sleepy area, beautiful in the juxtaposition of cliff against the long salt flats, which attract a wide variety of wildlife and birds. This is another bird watcher’s haven. The salt flats still produce around 15,000 tons of salt annually. Stop in for your own bag of Les Salinas sea salt and enjoy the vast expanse of unspoiled beaches. Have lunch on anchor.

Mid to late afternoon cruise to Alcudia for the night. Built on Alcudia Bay, this area is known for the vast expanses of beaches. Alcudia has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and today is surrounded by the Gothic built fortress walls. Walk on the top of the fortress walls, almost around the entire village, for a great view of both the surrounding area and the village itself. The city center of Alcudia within the surrounding walls is an area of walking streets and piazzas with shops, restaurants, and bars. This is the nightlife location of Alcudia. Overnight dockside.

Puerto de Soller Mallorca Spain

Puerto de Soller

Cruise to Soller for the night, stopping on the way at Bahia de Pollensa during the day, anchoring for lunch to enjoy the beaches and lovely water. This is a great location for swimming, and water toys. In the late afternoon head to Puerto de Soller to dock. The village of Soller is located a few miles inland of Puerto de Soller, and is connected to the Port by a small vintage train. Be sure to take the train to Soller, sitting in a valley surrounded by orange groves.

Soller was built on oranges, as a main business, and at every street corner and café, fresh squeezed orange juice is available. Of note, in town is a good modern art museum, Can Prunera, housed in an Art Nouveau mansion with works from artists such as Picasso, Miró, Matisse, Basquiat, Rusiñol, Magritte, Leger and Chillida. This is a large hiking and cycling area with many well marked trails, as this is an area to enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors framed by orange groves. Return to the yacht for dinner, and perhaps a drink along the promenade at Port de Soller. The sleepy town of Soller may be better to visit during the day than for nightlife.

Sa Dragonera Island National park Balearic Spain

Anchorage on Sa Dragonera Island

Cruise to Andratx Port , a lovely little fishing village, with docks filled with yachts, with expensive villas lining the hillsides behind. Stop on the way to anchor for lunch at the little island of Sa Dragonera , now a National Park, with hiking trails, and great swimming, before heading into Andratx Port. This is a lovely little typical fishing village, and while the locals do fish, the quaintness of this little fishing village is enjoyed by many. Explore the little village, stopping at a harbor side café for, what else, fresh fish. After dinner, the harbor front is alive and a great place to watch the world go by.

Puerto Portals Mallorca Spain yacht charter

Puerto Portals

In the morning head to Puerto Portals , considered the glitter and glam port of southwestern Mallorca, where one never knows who one might see. This is a created marina centered village around 30 years old, filled with chic shops, bars and nightclubs. For daytime fun head to the beach at Cala Portals Nous, a small protected sandy cove. Stop for a drink at Roxy’s or Moods, and enjoy Designer Boutique Shopping. At night, the town comes alive with a very international chic jet set crowd.

Ibiza Town spain luxury yacht charter, luxury yacht, luxury charter

Cruise the 60 nautical miles to Ibiza Island to Ibiza Town Botafoch Marina home to the world famous Pacha Night Club. This marina is one of the centers of chic shopping. Just behind the harbor front is Ibiza Old Town, called Dalt Villa, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and within live traditionally black clad Ibicencos, whose families have lived within these walls for decades if not centuries. This is an area to visit on foot, to explore the narrow winding walking streets, filled with little shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Also within Dalt Villa are great art galleries and several excellent museums; one of which houses an outstanding display of Roman artifacts found entirely on Ibiza. Another museum houses items from the Phoenician Age to the 1300’s found in 2002 in a room in the castle that was filled with dirt. In the 1300’s the castle was an important fortification for the islanders, and often after retreating to the castle interior, the locals would bury the room leading to the castle gate in dirt to deter entrance by their enemies. In the 1300’s this was done again, however the invading Knights from the mainland were victorious, overran the castle, and presumably the room filled with dirt was forgotten.

Ibiza Castle spain luxury yacht charter, luxury yacht, luxury charter

Ibiza Castle

In front of Dalt Villa around the port is the Old Fisherman’s Quarters, also with winding little streets best to explore on foot. Small boutiques can be found here that are often open until after midnight in the summer, along with stalls of the “Hippie Market” that open in the afternoons until proprietor feels like closing. And for anyone looking for another beach, there is a great beach across from Botafoch Marina. each

Hippie Market Ibiza Spain yacht charter

Hippie Market, Ibiza Town

At night Ibiza Town comes alive, and the streets are filled with activity from the chicly dressed visitors to locals dressed in outlandish outfits, including walking on stilts to lure the chic crowd into various bars and nightclubs, especially along Calle de la Virgins, (Street of the Virgins). Music is played in the streets, up until 1:00am, and after music can be found within any number of bars and night clubs. Well known night clubs include Pacha, Heart Ibiza and Veto.

Formentera Anchorage, Spain

Cruise to the nearby islet Formentera to dock at Marina Formentera. The smallest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, Formentera is known for great beaches backed by sand dunes and pine trees with beautiful clear water. With 70% of the island protected against development, Formentera still sports the wildness and open areas of the Balearic Islands of yesteryear. In the 60’s Formentera became a haven of Bohemian lifestyle, which can still be seen in local style. Enjoy the beaches and water and visit the little villages and be sure to enjoy a cocktail at sundown at one of the beach bars with sand in your toes.

Ibiza Town more than lives up to its reputation with panoramic views from its battlement, a treasure trove of history, mystery and discoveries, spanning 25 years are encapsulated in this UNESCO World Heritage site. It has white-washed houses and streets, labyrinth style in the Old Town (D’Alt Vila) and an amazing selection of restaurants and bars. You will overnight here in one of the many marinas close to the town.

Mallorca – Ibiza – Formentera

The anticipation of going to the ‘Caribbean’ of the Mediterranean – Formentera, should spur you on to get underway straight after breakfast. As you approach this island the glare off the sun-bleached beaches is striking as is the light turquoise sea. You will anchor off one of the many gorgeous beached at Playa Espalmador. Fabulous beach bars are sprinkled along this beach offering choices where you can eat excellent food while wriggling your toes into the sand, complete paradise. Your crew can run you ashore on the Jet Rib and collect you when you are ready to come back on-board. You will then overnight in the quaint harbour at La Sabina on Formentera, just a short 15 minutes from the beach anchorage. La Sabina offers a variety of restaurants and bars as well as an alternative array of ‘pop up’ clothing and jewellery shops that run the full length of the back of the harbour.

Mallorca – Ibiza – Formentera

After breakfast, on-board it would be a mid-morning departure to make time for a stop off with the option of a swim off the beach at Espalmador. Then it’s the sail back to the home port of Puerto Portals in Mallorca. Lunch will be served on-route with an anticipated arrival back on the home berth in the early evening. This is to ensure there is plenty of time to spend your last evening enjoying the full use of this prestigious nautical and leisure complex that this marina has to offer.

BALEARIC ISLANDS: IBIZA SAMPLE 7-DAY SAILING ITINERARY

Arrival & check-in, palma de mallorca.

Start your journey in the capital of the Balearic Islands, the stunning and historic Palma de Mallorca. Less than 5 miles from the airport, you will be able to step off your flight and into this stunning waterfront city in no time. Once you’ve checked in, leave behind the breathtaking coastal views (there’ll be plenty of those still to come!) and set about exploring the winding cobbled streets that sprawl out from under the impressive Santa Maria Cathedral. You’ll come across countless tapas bars, restaurants and cafes that will quickly settle you into the relaxed and fun Spanish way of life – don’t get too carried away though, you have a week of adventures ahead of you…

Port d'Andtrax

Port d’andtrax.

You’ll start your trip by sailing out and West from Palma de Mallorca past the famous spots of Magaluf, El Toro and Costa de la Calma until you reach the glamorous Port d’Andtrax. Known for it’s impressive and expensive holiday homes, Port d’Andtrax is a taste of Spanish coastal luxury. Once you arrive, you can choose to relax in the bars and restaurants that are scattered in the stunning harbour or venture inland to the ancient city of Andtrax.

From Port d’Andtrax, enjoy a slightly longer sail to the northern tip of the famous party island of Ibiza and you will come across the slightly more subdued and relaxing Binrras beach. Famous for incredibly clear waters and breathtaking sunsets this beautiful spot is protected from strong wind by its natural enclosed shape to create a truly peaceful spot for you to unwind in after the busier Port d’Andtrax.

Port Roig (Porroig)

Just a short sail away from Binirras you’ll find another relaxed beach spot in Porroig. Catch some sunshine from the sandy shore or get lost in the calm seas with a spot of snorkelling!

Sail back into reality with Ibizia’s neighbouring island of Formentera. Despite being only 12 miles long, there’s plenty of things to see in Formentera! Climb up to see the views from one of the islands famous lighthouses, immerse yourself in Mediterranean history with a visit to the castles and churches.

From Formentera you’ll sail back north to the famous island of Ibiza. Known for its party scene, Ibiza has a lot more to offer than you might think! With a plethora of museums, old towns and cathedrals, the island of Ibiza is a great spot to get in touch with the history of the Balearic Islands. There are also a variety of unique and lesser known beaches to choose from if you want to ditch the crowds and head to the red cliff surrounded Sa Caleta, or forest S’Estanyol. When sun falls you’ll be spoilt for choice with restaurants, bars and clubs to spend the night in making the most of one of your last nights in the Mediterranean.

CALA MASTELLA

Cala mastella.

You’ll spend your last full day in the Balearic Islands in one of the most unique cove beaches the island of Ibiza has to offer. When you arrive you’ll find crystal clear azure waters surrounded by towering pine woods that make the white beach feel incredibly secluded. A small pathway will take you to El Bigotes, widely considered the best spot to eat in Ibiza and famously difficult to get a reservation for so come prepared if you’re hoping to dine there!

Palma de Mallorca

Finally it’s time to sail back to the stunning Port de Mallorca to say goodbye to the Balearic Islands. Take any spare time you have before you head home to explore more of what you have loved most about your charter. Whether it’s discovering more about historical sites, delicious cuisine, or taking in the sea air on the marina – Palma de Mallorca has it all!

Top 5 airlines flying to ibiza.

Late boarding to clean plane from previous flight; initial boarding announcement not loud enough; fantastic cabin attendant front of plane

Generally good but we were delayed almost two hours from the original time of purchase. The pilot claimed an internal issue then an external equipment issue that needed to be adddressed. He made up a lot of the time.

Re-checking our bags, the workers were not able to help us with boarding passes for the flight, told us to wait, then ignored us while they helped many other passengers. Until I got rude, they would have left us standing there, and even then they were very curt and dismissive in telling us where to get boarding passes printed. We made it to the gate just as they were starting to board passengers. It was just rude customer service.

Delayed abs delayed Gate crew giving poor info - we are definitely leaving at —- Ultimately to cancel flight after 4+ hours of delays Just cancel it earlier

The flight was excellent, provided that we had inclement weather. We departed earlier than scheduled and arrived early. There was a little turbulence, but nothing to be worried about.

Our flight was great we left Kona earlier and got into LAX almost an 1hour earlier as well. LAX AA is in repair so to get out and found our bus to get pick up was a bit confusing.

Delayed flight, few announcements with information, no comps, cluster f boarding because zones weren’t spread out and announced loud and repeatedly, staff did their job -nothing more nothing less, annoying kids were speaking and kicking the heck out of the back of my seat and parents weren’t willing to parent… so another typical day of air travel in the US.,

It was less than what is expected for a business class ticket I thought that the staff actively ignored me because I either looked Indian or Hispanic to them and I guess I did not deserve their attention. The food which included a beef entree was not available so not enough food was ordered for number of seats available. I will say experience in Greenwich lounge was very good and the staff there at the airport were very nice. May be your crew needs to learn about racial equity so that everyone gets either the same aweful treatment or hopefully the best treatment which is what we expect I recommend you take a flight with Singapore airlines that I have taken and the crew remember your last names and use it to address each person, food never finishes if you are at the back of business class and crew anticipate your need even before you articulate. Same price and 100 times better service than American Airlines

I don’t think the flight attendants are happy. They do not seem to be friendly or welcoming.

Flight was delayed until Next day as crew timed out

The flight, the staff and the airplane were all fantastic. I highly recommend.

Terrible app. Working off paper stickies for seat reservations doesn’t work anymore.

Impossible to check in via the App. Kept on getting emails offering upgrade. When followed through not available. Wasn't any food anyway.

Place above head to place the rucksack in is smaller than in other planes, so it needed to be located under the front seat.

Great experience, I just wish airline seats were more comfortable in general.

Totally unprofessional crew, lack of empathy and disrespectful responses. Flight got delayed for Mechanical issue for 3 hours got on the runway then back, then disembarked and just waiting with no one explaining anything and missed my connecting due to that.. the crew total lack of professionalism is totally unseen anywhere.

Flights from MADRID to CARACAS and back Seats on the plane were too uncomfortable for a 9 hour trip, especially when the flight was completely full. Crew treated passengers as if we were cattle. Desperate rush to get food served so they could enjoy First class food at the back of the plane... I went twice to the back of the plane (no one answered the flight attendant button) to ask for coffee and was met with a very abrupt response... 'YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT'. The only thing staff could think of saying to me was 'la mascarilla senior!'.... In a way I do not blame Air Europa for getting away with this lamentable service, they are one of only two carriers flying between Spain and Venezuela so do not have any competition... I do not think they would dare offer the same service on a flight from London to Los Angeles!

I was in flights from sap paulo <-> Madrid, the last one 11/15/21, That takes around 10:30 hour. Can you imagine that is served only a POOR meal after one hour of flight and nothing more??? We don’t have any service (besides in the morning a payed kart) or crew working in anything more than masks control. You need to pay for water / coffee is reasonable ? Even if you consider as low cost flights that you payed around U$ 700, courtesy and education should be showed by crew, things that Air Europe should learn to their employees on the airplane, a very rude people!!! It was not with me, but a complain for a lot people around. I have never been treated Like this before. Air Europa your journey will be short walking in this road. I, a constant traveler, will never more flight with you. I don’t need this kind of services!

An average flight experience. For our transatlantic portion, they provided a main meal and two snacks. However, the food was not very tasty and the drinks far too small and infrequent for such a long flight. The regrettable part of the flight was that the toilets were extremely filthy. I feel this is unacceptable.

Both flights were delayed. I lost my connection on the way back. No voucher or anything was givenx I had business ticket and no support to make it on time. I got to the door running 5 min after they close. Food really bad. Breakfast in business was worst that I what I remember in economy. Even though I have accumulated many miles, I don’t think Inwill keep buying Iberia. I am a frequent business traveler.

The food is really eco only level. Breakfast was shameful. I am considering to stop flying with Iberia. Business prices are as expensive as other companies with much better service.

Why no entertainment? Also water should be free, it is basic human right.

Late boarding. Delayed departure leading to rushed connection at Madrid Barajas. Not necessarily Iberia's fault but delay loading cargo didn't help.

I can’t comment on food as it was necessary to buy it. No entertainment.

Took too long to tak off but besides that it was good

They made my flight a disaster they had me pay for bags that I already paid for through Iberia airlines and the hostesses were super mean and racist they just turned my vacation to a total nightmare and disappointment in fact they even had me rethink even no to go to morroco ever again even if my whole stay at the country was so nice and fun and perfect but anything at the airport and with the airline was a disaster do not recommend will never take a flight with them

All went smoothly, no problems; friendly crew. I would have appreciated a head pillow ;)

Staff not so nice, very dirty bathrooms, things in the hallways, food was not very nice.

The whole flight was coughing and farting all the way. It was impossible to breathe. If people are traveling sick they should either not be allowed to fly or made wear masks

I will never fly vueling. 1h30 delayed, connexion missed with the crew closing the boarding in front of us. 40 people missed the Barcelona-Orly connexion. hours waiting for rebooking and hotel.. inadmissible

3 hr flight from Barcelona to Gran Canaria. Ŵent according to plan No issues with staff oŕ flight. Many people includiñg us could not get luggage self checķ in termìnals to work. Had to wait in check in line.

The communication about the delay could have been better before and during the flight. Also, this online form could have less bugs. It is almost impossible to type in this window.

Boarding was very poor as the flight was initially delayed. We were told the flight would be at 21:40. We were with our 10 month baby who was sleeping. I received an email from Kayak which said the flight was now due to take off at 21:04. When we checked the screens at Gatwick we were told the gate was closed. The lack of communication was extremely poor and we had to run with our baby and there were many other passengers, including elderly people, also running to the gate. When we got to the gate, the staff had no reasons for the poor communication.

It was a short flight but the seat was very straight. I didn’t need any service, but wifi was not available. In resume, a normal service. Nice, the punctuality. Thanks

Last time bucking this company if I would know I wouldn’t do it, they made me lose my flight

I liked the regular updates and appreciated the automatic online checkin which didn’t work for our Vueling flight so I had to do this myself.

The baggage policy is pathetic. We paid for our carry-on bags online. Said if we don't remove the wheels of our carry-ons it's not considered a carry-on. We all measured our bags according to the website beforehand. We were not refunded for our bags and were obligated to buy it as checked in bags for over $70 online or $90 over the counter. First and last time I travel with this airline.

Because the scale includes two terminals, we almost lost our flights. That data was not referrenced to us. The check-in process was a pain too.

Fare was much lower with a layover in London as I was able avoid numerous landing fees that would have been added to the ticket price had I booked a direct flight to Amsterdam.

We have business class seats from Los Angeles to London. The crew is friendly and provided great service. The flight was very comfortable and very smooth. Will use this airlines again in the future.

The flight was delayed numerous times with inconsistent updates and very ambiguous information. When it was finally cancelled the logistics of handing out vouchers and rebooking was extremely chaotic. Meal vouchers were completely inadequate for the airport restaurants, and not even accepted at some. All-in-all, it was a very disappointing experience.

Terrible. The flight from Islamabad to London took 3 hours more then previously planned, I missed my connection to Chicago, and instead had to go New York, spend an extra day before arriving at my final destination. The return leg of the journey was similar. The connection time in Qatar was shrinked to less then an hour unannounced, I had to scramble to barely make it to my flight to Islamabad. Terrible experience, never using British airways again.

The crew on this flight were attentive, efficient and friendly. It really made for an enjoyable flight.

The crew on this flight were excellent. They were friendly and attentive. It really made the flight more enjoyable.

They canceled my flight , they put me on a different flight that was delayed and the connection was lost . They lost my luggage. And now I’m stuck with any of my belongings.

British Airways canceled our plane and gave us a new flight scheduled to leave in only three hours, so we had to drop everything and rush to the airport. The new itinerary only left us a one hour layover in Madrid, which was too short because the plane landed late and so we missed our connecting flight. We were then booked onto a flight scheduled to take off 8 hours later, and were not given any compensation or remedial measures.

Seat layout, flight/club attendant service, food variety and quality could have been better. Business class Standard is visibly low compared with 6 other airlines that we have traveled for the past two years.

Despite many attempts to work out a change, neither British Airways nor Kayak nor Chatdeal would allow us to cancel or change this flight so we lost all of the payments when we were not able to fly. Absolutely terrible customer service. We will never use either of the services again.

Navigating the waves of engineering excellence: a guide to becoming a yacht engineer, if you aspire to become a yacht engineer, read on.

Start your career by applying for entry-level positions in yacht engineering

Start your career by applying for entry-level positions in yacht engineering. | Archives

Embarking on a career as a yacht engineer offers a unique blend of technical expertise, maritime knowledge, and the thrill of working on some of the world's most luxurious vessels . Yacht engineers play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of the yacht's intricate systems. If you aspire to become a yacht engineer, read on! Here’s my comprehensive guide to help you navigate the path to success.

Complete Necessary Certifications:

Obtain the essential certifications required for a yacht engineer. Firstly get yourself your medical clearance (ENG1) to ensure you’re able to work at sea. Once you’ve got that sorted, get your STCW basic safety training. If you’re brand new to the maritime industry, you’ll need to get your Approved Engineering Certificates, 1 & 2. These are the basic, minimum requirements for new engineers.

Educational Background:

Many engineers in yachting move across from other mechanical/electrical fields . i.e. car mechanics, aerospace engineers etc. If you have other qualifications such as certificates, degrees or diplomas from other fields it’s worthwhile contacting the MCA to see if it’s possible to skip any courses in order to get your first Certificate of Competency. Be warned, this often takes a while so in the meantime it might be good to just get your AECs and crack on!

Acquire Practical Experience:

Gain hands-on experience by working in daywork positions within the maritime or engineering field. If you have the opportunity to work in a shipyard ashore for example, this could provide you with an excellent foundation in learning about yacht specific systems and environments for when you take the next step and apply for superyacht engineer positions. Transferrable skills are key.

Specialise in Yacht-Specific Systems:

Yacht engineering involves working with specific systems unique to luxury vessels. Specialize in the maintenance and operation of propulsion systems, electrical systems, air conditioning, watermakers, and other equipment commonly found on yachts. Familiarity with the intricacies of these systems is crucial for success.

Networking in the Maritime Community:

Attend industry events, boat shows (the Palma boat show is definitely good to attend), and networking gatherings to connect with professionals in the superyacht industry. Building a network can open doors to job opportunities and provide valuable insights into the industry. Keep an eye on Palma Yacht Crew on Facebook as Lars, the admin, often organises crew gatherings, especially in the spring when Palma is busiest with new crew.

Apply for Entry-Level Positions:

Start your career by applying for entry-level positions in yacht engineering. Positions such as second or third engineer or deckhand/engineer mixed roles can provide valuable experience and a stepping stone toward a sole yacht engineer role. One point to note, if you’re looking to log seamiles and work towards further qualifications, make sure the vessel’s propulsion is over 350kW or sadly the MCA will not count it. Many sailing yachts fall short of this so be careful when applying if you’re looking to build miles.

Build a Strong CV:

I’ll say it again! Louder for those in the back (or those hiding in the Engine Room). Craft a professional CV that highlights your education, certifications, practical experience, transferrable skills and any specialized training. Emphasize specific achievements, projects, or challenges you've successfully tackled to showcase your skills and reliability.

Prepare for Interviews and Technical Assessments:

Yacht engineer positions may involve technical assessments in addition to interviews to gauge your knowledge and problem-solving abilities. Be prepared to discuss your experience, provide examples of challenges you've overcome, and demonstrate your understanding of yacht engineering systems. Be prepared to do a trial period on board.

Stay Committed to Safety and Compliance:

Yacht engineers play a critical role in ensuring the safety of the vessel and its occupants. Stay committed to adhering to safety protocols, industry regulations, and environmental best practices. Demonstrating a strong commitment to safety enhances your reputation within the industry.

Becoming a yacht engineer is a rewarding journey that requires a combination of education, practical experience, and a commitment to staying updated with industry advancements. It also requires problem solving abilities – fixing stuff on the fly or MacGyvering it (young uns will have to google who he was, wow I feel old) is all part of the fun!

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

yacht from mallorca to ibiza

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

yacht from mallorca to ibiza

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

yacht from mallorca to ibiza

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

yacht from mallorca to ibiza

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

yacht from mallorca to ibiza

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

yacht from mallorca to ibiza

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

yacht from mallorca to ibiza

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
