We chartered the 42’ Nordic tug, Pilot House, through Cooper Boating for spring break and cannot say enough good things about this company! We took it out for 2 weeks and traveled all the way to Princess Louisa Inlet and back. We have chartered several times from other companies in the area and Cooper Boating rises way above all the rest! From the start, Chris was great at helping us with our reservation and was always available to answer our questions. He went above and beyond by picking us up at the airport and helping us get all settled on the boat. He also checked in frequently to make sure our trip was going well! Tracy and Scott helped us complete a costal navigation course and answered all our questions before we left. We spent a day with them becoming familiar with the boat before we left for two weeks. We met up with Rob (Uncle Rob is what our kids now call him) in the Powell River office and he made us feel right at home. Our kids would have been happy hanging with Rob for the rest of the trip! He welcomed us into the Powell River marina while we waited out a storm and answered all of our questions we had about the boat. We had a few minor maintenance issues, but it wouldn’t be boating without a few things malfunctioning. Everyone was quick to help us resolve the issues and we had a wonderful two weeks out on the water. We will definitely be back to charter with Cooper Boating in the near future!

My wife and I finished our charter with Cooper a month ago. It was the first time we chartered from them, and we totally enjoyed our experience taking s/v Fascination from Sidney to the Gulf Islands. Key theme that comes to mind when thinking about Cooper is Superior Customer Service. Due to personal circumstances, we had to change our reservation four or five times before the charter. All that time Remy from the Vancouver office was calm, professional and super-helpful. Same applies to the Sidney team - Gary, Tracy, captain Rick, Sam – always there ready to listen and help going above and beyond what is requested from them. Thorough check out, orientation, local information, helping with docking. When we could not get a taxi to the airport from the marina, Tracy took us there in her personal vehicle and refused to be compensated for the gas. Thank you, Tracy. As I said above – it’s all about top-notch customer service. The boat was in good working condition, well-equipped, and very clean. We had a couple of minor issues, but nothing serious enough to wipe the happy smiles off our faces. Excellent experience overall. Cannot wait to contact Remy to book another charter with them. Highly recommended. I want to specifically mention Tracy Sarich who recently joined Cooper Team as the person in charge of training. She is, sort of, a local legend. We heard about her a long time ago. I even spoke with her once to get her professional, honest, no-nonsense advice about training options. Finally, we had an honour to meet her in person. I’m sure that Tracy will help Cooper to achieve a new level of excellency.

This company did not pay their invoice of over $9000 for Laundry Services provide to Cooper Boating Granville Island. A lot of hard work was put into it. They ghosted us and never responded to our e mail.

What an amazing experience for the whole family! We just finished a cruise and learn course with Coopers. The boat was in excellent condition. Our instructor, Omar rocked! Everyone had a blast. He was informative, got all our kids involved, had a great attitude and was just fun to be with. As first time boaters we felt safe the whole time, the course was really hands on, we learned so much! We will definitely take more courses in the future and will definitely charter with Coopers again! Service was great, Dawn was awesome with communications and organizing the whole trip.

We chartered a 44' Catalina Sailboat and spent a week enjoying the gulf islands. The service of this company and quality of the vessel were outstanding. Chris was a pleasure to work with. We look forward to booking our next sailing adventure with them in 2024!

Our family enjoyed an excellent cruising holiday in Desolation Sound through Cooper Boating with Rob and his team’s help. The charter boat was well equipped and in great condition. We’ll be back!

We rented a Catalina 445 from Powell River. Boat was in excellent condition, Rob’s crew did a great job preparing it for our week in Desolation Sound. Rob is the right man in the right place, especially helping us get home afterwards. We will definitely rent from Cooper Boating on our next BC adventure.

Cooper Boating was terrific to charter through. We regularly charter from Powell River but this year was particularly good. The business is in the hands of Rob Bombardis who is friendly, responsive and really cares about your boating experience. The sailboat was clean and well maintained. Will definitely be back!

We chartered Untethered from Cooper Boating and it was a great experience. Scott did a great job on communications getting everything set up, and Rob did an absolutely fantastic job on our checkout and followup questions. The dock crew members were helpful and friendly, too. We'll definitely be back.

Slo M’Ocean was in immaculate condition and had everything we needed for a family of four for a week in Desolation Sound. I highly recommend this charter company. Rob was always a phone call away while we were on the boat and had quick cheerful answers for us. He made the check out and in such a fun experience which put us all at ease. We hope to do it again next year as there is so much more to see!

Introducing NW Yacht Group: A New Chapter for Cooper Boating & NW Explorations

NW Explorations was first established in Bellingham, WA, and led by boating legend Brian Pemberton until 2017 when Ross and Evelyn Tennant took over and, along with John Nassichuck, established additional locations at Canoe Cove and Port Sidney Marina. NW Explorations offers their own charter fleet of exclusively trawlers, some training, and boat maintenance and repairs.

As conversations evolved, the owners of each company realized the synergies and potential that a blended organization could offer; economies of scale in operations, and enhanced product offerings and services for customers.

The result is one parent company for both charter companies, NW Yacht Group, that will continue to operate two unique brands: Cooper Boating and NW Explorations. The service, training and brokerage divisions which all fell under the NW Explorations name are now more appropriately named NW yacht Works, NW Yacht Training, and NW Yacht Brokerage respectively.

Both brands now have a larger charter pool to draw from, and access to all four locations: Powell River, Vancouver, Sidney and Bellingham. They will both offer training programs (from Cooper’s well-established curriculum and expertise) and maintenance and servicing for all customers (from NW’s established team and expertise). Further, there will be single units for finance, operations and administrative support across Canadian and US operations.

It’s a great move for both companies, and a big win for boaters who now have access to more choice in the type of boats and locations where they can charter and access training – and more support in servicing as needed.

For us at the Cove this only means more business as the servicing and maintenance will continue to be managed through the NW office here.

2004 Westcoast 46

Chuck Hovey Yachts presents you with a proven winner — this handsome, lovingly cared for Westcoast 46 that plied Northwest waters for almost 20 years.

This sturdy and handsome cruiser was built in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, and originally designed by Ed Monk Jr. for use in the Tollycraft 43 Tri-Cabin series before Forbes Cooper reconfigured the design for Westcoast. With loving care from the current owner, Spirit So Moves has cruised for years along the West Coast, with 1,900 hours on its twin Cummins 6BTA5, 270hp engines. The Westcoast 46 cruises at 16 knots and can go flat out at 20 knots.

With two staterooms and two heads, the layout allows for generous living space and three separate outside decks. The full walk-around side decks are made of teak and are flush to the aft deck. Port and starboard sliding doors allow easy access to the main salon. Inside the carpeted salon is an L-shaped settee is to port with a hi-lo table and an entertainment center with TV, DVD player, and stereo system. A granite-top breakfast bar features two bar stools and an icemaker. The L-shaped settee also folds out to sleep two people.

The main helm to starboard includes hydraulic steering, Morse clutch and throttle controls, full instrumentation, engine-hour meters, a compass, and windshield wipers. Forward and down three steps from the helm you’ll find the U-shaped galley, with granite countertops, a double stainless-steel sink, a Norcold refrigerator/freezer, a three-burner electric cooktop, and a convection/microwave oven.

Aft of the salon, a staircase leads to the boat deck and flybridge, which comes with a full canvas enclosure. Flybridge settees, arranged in L-shape, wrap around an adjustable, triangular dining/coffee table that’s near a Magnum BBQ and a Nova Kool mini fridge/freezer. The upper helm station has Icom VHF radio, main engine and windlass controls, a Com Nav autopilot, GPSMAP 1020 series, Bennet trim tab controls, a Sirius XM weather and radio antenna, Garmin radar, a Fusion 650 stereo control, and two adjustable, swivel chairs.

The master stateroom, accessible down a few steps from the salon and main helm, includes a queen-size island berth, two end tables, a vanity, a deck hatch, and access to an en suite head with granite countertops and a separate shower. The VIP Stateroom also has a similar layout, with access to a guest head with a Kohler sink and handheld shower.

Attached to the flat transom is a 2011 Walker Bay Genesis tender, with a Yamaha 20 HP outboard motor and a Seawise hydraulic davit system.

From 2020 to 2022, some of the recent upgrades to Spirit So Moves include the addition of a new Norcold mini-fridge midship, added thermal insulation in the salon, a canvas enclosure, a new radar arch, renewed varnish, a thorough cleaning of the bottom with new anodes, and a renewed gelcoat.
