What turns a superyacht into a thing of beauty? We asked scores of the world's leading yacht designers to list the 10 most beautiful superyachts ever built...

The only rules were that they couldn’t pick one of their own and they had to be luxury superyachts over 30 metres. With the votes counted, we can now reveal our definitive rundown of the most beautiful yachts in the world.

We’ve even enlisted some of those same designers to explain what makes the final ten yachts so special. Scroll down to see the full top 10 and read more about each model.

10. Limitless

James Roy, managing director of BMT Nigel Gee believes her to be one of the most beautiful superyachts in the world and writes:

“One of the earlier breed of superyachts Limitless is in my opinion from a period when the volume of superstructures were not over imposing producing a well balanced yacht. These proportions coupled with the sheer line and well matched angles of bow profile and rake of superstructure ends all work together.”

Certainly with her dark blue hull and glistening white superstructure she cuts quite a dash and at night her comprehensive array of on deck illumination and underwater lighting make her look nothing short of spectacular proving that yachts can have beauty 24 hours a day.

“It’s a great pleasure to pay tribute to an iconic thoroughbred such as Skat , still standing tall on the horizon,” says Tim Saunders of Rainsford Saunders Design. “Despite her military looks, this is a true superyacht, engineered as a ship at heart and built from the keel up, with every square metre fulfilling the owner’s brief. Skat is a unique design but has not broken traditional yachting rules for the sake of it.

She is a superyacht that has been devised to offer the owner a well-considered relationship between external and internal living spaces, and unlike many of her sisters, she doesn’t opt for maximum density. Skat ’s combination of poise, elegance and balance comes from a clever use of straight, angular lines, facetted surfaces and enhanced ship details.

Each component comes together in a harmonious relationship to offer a daring and bold statement that from a distance has the grace and elegance of something far more organic. She is a yacht that catches your eye from all angles.”

8. Alfa Nero

“When we first saw Alfa Nero we were impressed by her smooth exterior lines,” say Mareid Moosbrugger and Georg Decker of Egg and Dart Design. “The superstructure is sleek and elegant without any angular or hard corners. We consider her to be one of the most beautiful yachts afloat today, and we can easily understand why our colleagues agree.

“Walking around her at the 2007 Monaco Yacht Show , we felt the three-dimensional use of space was harmonious with the elements, and there was a true balance between the inside and outside areas of the yacht, with the exterior spaces maintaining a close connection with the natural environment of the sea and sky.

“The decks are open and airy, yet there is a feeling of being safely cocooned, and the superb aft deck in particular maintains a feeling of being at one with the ocean, which is emphasised by the huge pool. The yacht impressed us as a gentle giant: on the one hand huge, voluminous and technically advanced; on the other, stylish, glossy and surprisingly cosy.

“The beautiful interior features a timeless but modern design with elements of Art Deco, and everywhere you can see that the smallest details have been attended to. This yacht is a perfect combination of design, functionality and vision, and offers a unique ambience.”

Year: 2007 – LOA: 81.27m – Builder: Oceanco – Exterior: Nuvolari-Lenard – Interior: Alberto Pinto

Designer Reymond Langton says: “At the time of her creation, she was the largest yacht that we had signed and would be the largest the yard had built. The client is a very experienced yacht owner and for him to have put his trust in us when we had nothing of our own in the water at the time was a massive vote of confidence.

“He allowed us to be a little experimental with the design – this was the first large yacht with a plumb bow. It was fantastic to have landed another contract where we were able to design the exterior and interior as it gave us much more control over the whole project, and gave us the scope to really harmonise the spaces.

“It also allowed us to work hand in hand together, which we thoroughly enjoy and believe delivers the best results for the client. We think she stands out because she has a very striking profile that is easily recognisable from a distance.

“She has a lot of presence on the water due to her powerful lines. Anyone who has been on board will tell you that the high-volume interior feels incredibly luxurious.”

6. Carinthia VII

The Austrian supermarket heiress Heidi Horten replaced Carinthia VI (see below) with this very secret yacht rumoured to run at 26 knots. Voting her as his most beautiful yacht, Rupert Mann of Rainsford Mann Design said, “97m is a good length for a designer to work with, as it gives an opportunity to design longitudinally not vertically and therefore create an elegant yacht which appears low and sleek.

“What makes the design of Carinthia VII so successful is the enhancement of this due to the pure and elegant sheer line that draws your eye from the bow to stern so effortlessly. The clever trick of dropping the sheer line one deck down aft, gives it a dynamic and purposeful bow shape forward, as if carving its path with consummate ease.

The horizontal lines of the super structure are equally uncomplicated, in this instance resisting the addition of unnecessary detail such as fashion plates that often complicate a design. Ultimately I think the strength of the design manifests through its simplicity. It is the most successful of designs, which can be called a ‘timeless classic’.

“A design that will be successful in every genre modern or classic and in every decade, that even 7 years later still is relevant and pleasing to the eye. I would suspect it is this timeless styling and the sheer simplicity, coupled with the poise and balance of the whole composition, that is so appealing to so many of us.”

5. Maltese Falcon

The designer Ken Freivoch, responsible for the way this beautiful yacht looks says, “We are delighted that our fellow designers should have included Maltese Falcon within their shortlist. She was designed without any attempt to be ostentatious or to conform to a set style – it was very much a case of “form follows function”, albeit with very careful attention to essential design principles, balanced proportions and uncluttered and purposeful shapes totally derived from the function they are designed to perform.

The yacht is significant in her innovative sailing system, and our studio took this as a clue to develop the design around such technology, with every effort to develop beautiful and unique solutions aimed at highlighting her unique rig. I can only surmise that a reason why she may have been selected by designers is that she is not a “trendy” design, but the result of going back to first principles, coming out with original and unique solutions, and achieve continuity of concept through from the external styling to the interior design.

A case in point would be the design of the “spider” feature at the aft deck – originally the result of a last minute request from the naval architects to achieve optimum separation between the bearings at the mizzen mast, the announcement from Gerry Dijkstra came something like: “Hey Ken, if we had to place the top bearing for the aft mast 1m above the deck, in the middle of the aft deck – would that be a problem?

“Can you come up with a way to do this, which Tom will not object to? We took this as a clue to design an elegant and purposeful set of arches or buttresses to shore up the bearing in question, and at the same time underline what a unique “machine” the Falcon is – express such function very much along the lines of a watchmaker showing the inner workings of a beautifully crafted watch. Maltese Falcon was a great challenge, exactly the type of challenge that our design team relishes.

For us, the thrill, the excitement and the ultimate satisfaction is to come up with totally unique, “out-of-the-box” solutions, and achieve a design which the owner can feel was truly conceived and executed in response to his brief, to his preferences and to the very specific requirements set out for the project.”

Year: 2006 – LOA: 88m – Builder: Perini Navi – Exterior: Gerard Dijstra – Interior: Ken Freivoch

Espen Oenio was at the time of the design working with Martin Francis and describes the commissioning owner – Mexican media magnate Emilio Azcarraga – as a wonderfully charismatic man. He remembers one meeting in particular early on in the project.

They were at the time sitting on board the owner’s then yacht Lady Azteca (now Achilles ), when he laid out what was to become the mission statement for the whole design process. He told the design team: “I am a very private man. I never spend time in port, I am always cruising. But when I do go into port, I want my presence to be felt through my boat.”

James Roy of BMT Nigel Gee is one designer who voted for Enigma . “It was not until I set eyes on her in the flesh at Cowes Week in 1999 that I really came to appreciate her beauty,” he says.

“The reverse sheer, the sweeping aft deck and those iconic windows – they all meld together to produce a yacht that visually works to perfection and is thoroughly striking even today, 18 years after her launch. It’s very different from anything else that is around.”

Theo Werner of Werner Yacht Design is equally enthusiastic. “When the design of this yacht was first published, I was stunned,” he says. “And when the first photographs appeared in the magazines, I was even more stunned.

“She introduced a new way of thinking that even surpassed the designs of Bannenberg, who I admire very much. Eco included many aspects that are foreign to other ships and yachts, yet Martin Francis managed to combine these with everything that make a ship pretty, such as sleekness, the suggestion of a low freeboard a small superstructure.”

She was subsequently sold to Larry Ellison and is now owned by the British businessman Aidan Barclay and his brother.

3. Endeavour

“Endeavour is one of my favourite yachts for a number of reasons,” Ed Dubois told SuperYacht World . “Firstly, she is a J Class yacht – one of only a few ever built. This class epitomised the very peak of yacht design before World War II and remains still, in technical terms, a class apart. These yachts were extreme in every way and demanded technology that was then in its infancy.

“They were superb yachts to sail upwind, but they were also fast reaching and downwind. They demanded a very high level of sailing skill, and indeed a high level of boatbuilding skill.

“ Endeavour , I believe, is the most beautiful of all the Js built. Her purity of line is exquisite and I think the shape of the sheer is slightly better than any of the others including Velsheda (by the same designer).

“Charles Nicholson designed Endeavour in 1933 and she was used to challenge for the America’s Cup in 1934. It was universally acknowledged that she was faster than the defender Rainbow , and she won the first two races, but better sailing by the Americans allowed them to win overall.

“She has captured the imagination of so many people including, happily, Elizabeth Meyer, who acquired the yacht in the seventies and rebuilt her almost from scratch.

“I believe there is some original plate still present but the hull was rebuilt in the UK and then taken to Royal Huisman Shipyard to be fitted out. The interior, by John Munford, is beautiful – obviously not what was fitted originally when she was a pure racing yacht, but Munford created something that is entirely fitting.

“Endeavour is not a practical yacht to own. She can only be sailed in reasonable conditions, she requires a large crew to race her, most of whom by necessity must sleep ashore, and maintaining a yacht of this type, particularly with regard to sails, rigging, etc is not inexpensive. However, for sheer sailing performance, romantic appeal and beauty I believe she is second to none.”

Year: 1934 – LOA: 39.6m – Builder: Camper & Nicholson – Exterior: C & N – Interior: C & N

Designer Tim Heywood says: “When a client gives you carte blanche to create a design, it is a blessing and a curse, if you do not rise to the challenge, you will not gain the approval of your client or, eventually, the respect of your peers.

“ Pelorus was a great project for us and we are extremely pleased with the end result, as was the client. I was able to develop the internal general arrangement plan, the external global styling themes and the practical engineering details to a level I had not achieved before.

The organic curves & forms of the superstructure are echoed in the lines of the hull, tying the two forms together, to produce a harmony that is easy on the eye, was quite unique at the time and, hopefully, will not date.

“The belt line that runs forward from the stern and sweeps down towards the anchor pocket, is inspired by the armour plating of the light cruiser HMS Belfast , which still lives just up stream from our old London studio.

“If I succeeded in creating a yacht that is thought of as attractive, by my brothers in arms of the design world, I am very pleased. Informed comments from professional, talented designers and client, means more than from any other source, especially if they are not negative!

“My partner, Vanessa, came up with our project name, we always give a name to our yachts, rather than a sterile number, and the client liked the name so much that he confirmed Pelorus as the yacht’s eventual name. The yacht has changed hands, but we are very pleased to see that she has retained her original name.”

“If I succeeded in creating a yacht that is thought of as attractive by my brothers-in-arms of the design world, I am very pleased. Informed comment from professional, talented designers and clients means more than from any other source – especially when they are positive!”

Year: 2003 – LOA: 115m – Builder: Lürssen – Exterior: Tim Heywood – Interior: Terrence Disdale

1. Carinthia VI

Dickie Bannenburg of Bannenburg Designs say: “Famously, and perhaps notoriously, Carinthia VI owes her existence to the fact that her elder sibling Carinthia V survived for only a few months before ending her days several fathoms down in Greek waters.

:The unfortunate captain struggled ashore to find a phone to have an awkward phone conversation with Helmut Horten, his Owner. Mr Horten rang my father up almost the following day and told him to start work on her replacement which has now become, in an often over used phrase, a yachting icon.

“She certainly wasn’t an icon when she appeared out of the Lürssen shed for the first time. With dramatic superstructure on a slim frigate-based hull, grilles and that distinctive blue windshield forward of the wheelhouse, my father’s design scared the pants off people and the perception of him hardened amongst conventional designers and naval architects as a dangerous radical. But now her pared down lines and slender masculinity scream good taste, restraint and a sense of suave style that is rarely seen these days.

“Certainly her interior was purposeful, code for slightly austere, and by today’s standards there was not much interior volume for lavish living, not least due to the presence of three mighty MTU diesels. There are no swoops, no complicated fashion plates and absolutely no ability to walk down steps at the transom to a nice bathing platform.

“But all the better for it. Life on board was, I understand, conducted with a certain Austrian precision and Carinthia ’s elegant and taut exterior, with deep blue paintwork and her gold coachwork stripe cut an unmistakeable dash in the harbours of the Cote d’Azur as she still does today.

“My father was very proud of her. Of course I’m even more proud that his design of almost forty years ago has such an enduring impact.”

The yachting industry is constantly evolving, pushing the boundaries of shipbuilding to create truly outstanding yachts with world-class design, technology, and extravagant onboard amenities. However, it is the most unique yachts that really make their mark on history, be it for their unusual exterior design, record-breaking technology, racing pedigree, or illustrious history.

The team at Relevance Yacht has had the pleasure of marketing some of the world’s finest superyachts over the past decade. Here we look at the most unusual yachts that have captured our attention while working with some of the world’s leading shipbuilders and yacht brokerages. 

The world’s most unique yachts 

1 – asean lady.

ASEAN LADY is a head-turning 88-metre asymmetrical yacht built by the Chinese shipyard Pride Mega Yachts in 2004. Her design is based on the proa, a bamboo multi-hulled vessel that dates back centuries and was used by the indigenous people of the South Pacific. Her unique design boasts many features, including enhanced space and reduced noise. She boasts serious long-range cruising capabilities and excellent seakeeping; indeed, her unique hull design enabled her to withstand the devastating tsunami of 2004 while anchored in Phuket. Among her many highlights include a luxurious and voluminous interior, including eight large staterooms, with the principal cabin spanning more than 1,700 square feet, and a helipad. And, for the ultimate party trick, this stunning vessel can manoeuvre sideways, making berthing effortless. Her unique design secured her the ‘Most Innovative Motor Yacht’ award by Showboats International in 2005. She is currently listed for sale.  

2 – GALAXY OF HAPPINESS

The 53-metre GALAXY OF HAPPINESS is the world’s largest and fastest trimaran yacht. Built by the Latvian shipyard Latitude Yachts and launched in 2016, this unique yacht features an eye-catching futuristic design by Coste Design & Partners. She boasts a top speed of 30 knots and is built with advanced propulsion and technological systems that enable her to cruise with zero emissions. Her interior features eye-catching bright white furnishings and dark wooden accents. 

3 – CREOLE

CREOLE is by far the oldest yacht on this list, but nearly a century later, she can still compete. She was built in the U.K. and had an uneventful civilian life before being used as a minehunter during World War II. She was later acquired by the Danish government and stripped for use as a training ship. She eventually found her way to Maurizio Gucci, who lovingly restored her to her original condition. Now the sailing yacht of the Gucci family and owned by Allegra Gucci, she has participated in numerous regattas and even won the Monaco Classic Week in 2013. 

4 – YAS

Yas has a unique yacht design, partially thanks to her origins. She was built by Damen in the Netherlands as HNLMS Piet Hein, a Kortenaer-class anti-submarine frigate,  and commissioned in 1981. She served in the Royal Netherlands Navy before being sold to the United Arab Emirates Navy. She was decommissioned in 2005, and so began the lengthy rebuild process where she would be transformed into one of the world’s most unique superyachts . She now boasts a length of 141-metres and a top speed of 26 knots. Now named YAS, she features a striking interior and exterior design by Pierrejean Design Studio. Indeed, there is no mistaking her for a yacht of the utmost luxury, yet one does not have to look long to see her military origins shine through the sleek exterior and iconic dome. 

5 – CHRISTINA O

CHRISTINA O is a 99.13-metre yacht that was originally launched as HMCS Stormont, a River-class frigate designed for anti-submarine warfare in the Atlantic that even took part in the Normandy landings. After the war, she was purchased as a surplus naval vessel by Greek billionaire Aristotle Onassis and named after his daughter, Christina. The CHRISTINA O has hosted numerous celebrities such as John F. Kennedy, Sir Winston Churchill, and Frank Sinatra, and even held the wedding reception for Prince Rainier III of Monaco and his soon-to-be-wife Grace Kelly. After Onassis’ death, the yacht was left to the Greek government as a presidential yacht and allowed to decay before being sold to a family friend of the Onassis’, who restored the CHRISTINA O to her former glory. 

6 – GUILTY

Both a yacht and a piece of art, GUILTY is a 35-metre yacht built by Cantieri Navali Rizzardi in 2008 and designed by Jeff Koons, an American artist, and Ivana Pofiri, an Italian yacht designer. The vessel immediately catches the eye, featuring tones of blue, white, black, and yellow in a paint scheme reminiscent of dazzle camouflage used on World War II naval vessels. The interior design features many art pieces, thanks to owner Dakis Joannous, an avid art collector who wished for his yacht to be both the ultimate floating art piece and collection. 

7 – KHALILAH

The 49-metre Palmer Johnson superyacht KHALILAH gains a mention on our most unique yachts listings thanks to her eye-catching metallic gold colour. However, there is more to KHALIAH than just her golden good looks. She features a carbon fibre superstructure with deflectors on her sides, giving her an appearance reminiscent of a trimaran. With a reported top speed of 30 knots, KHALILAH is also one of the fastest displacement yachts for her size. Launched in 2014, the vessel’s interior features design by Palmer Johnson, who incorporated Southeast Asian design elements alongside eccentric elements such as a mosaic featuring various sea creatures. KHALILAH is impossible to miss in port or underway, and her performance and styling make for a unique and memorable experience for those on board. 

8 – ARTEFACT

Built by German shipyard Nobiskrug, a Relevance Yacht client, the award-winning ARTEFACT is perhaps the most cutting-edge yacht on this list. ARTEFACT is a hybrid yacht and can operate for a limited time without the use of internal combustion engines, thanks to her state-of-the-art solar panels and batteries. The yacht contains other environmentally conscious features as well, including an Azipod system enabling her to hold position without dropping anchor and potentially damaging the sea floor and an advanced wastewater recycling system. Indeed, she was one of the world’s first superyachts to meet IMO Tier II emissions regulations. However, what makes this yacht truly unique is her spectacular use of glass, including an unprecedented floor-to-ceiling glass central section that covers some 740 square metres and weighs almost 60 tonnes. Her striking exterior design incorporates sharp angles, geometric shapes, and irregular-sized windows, making it easy to see why she is such a unique yacht . 

9 – SAILING YACHT A

SAILING YACHT A stunned the yachting industry when she was launched by Nobiskrug in 2017. Her imposing size and radical design are highly divisive, with the yacht’s designer, Philippe Starck, commenting, “Some people hate it, I can understand; some people love it, I can understand also.” Love it or hate it, there is no question that SAILING YACHT A is one of the most unique superyachts on the planet.  At almost 143-metres, she is the largest privately owned sail-assisted yacht in the world. Her interior is shrouded in secrecy, but we do know that the yacht contains eight decks and that the windows are covered in a one-way film, preventing them from being seen from outside. It’s also known that SAILING YACHT A features an underwater observation area. The mystery of what her interior looks like only adds to her appeal, and there is no question that she is a sight to behold in port or underway. 

10 – MALTESE FALCON

Such is the pace of acceleration within the yachting industry that yachts built several decades ago quickly lose some of their lustre. However, this is not the case with MALTESE FALCON, which looks just as striking as the day she was delivered. MALTESE FALCON was built by Perini Navi and is an 88-metre sailing yacht utilising DynaRig technology. The DynaRig technology was first pioneered in Germany during the 1960s as a method to save fuel and use as little crew as possible on cargo vessels. However, it never saw this intended purpose due to a lack of adequate construction materials. Yet by the 1990s, these materials were viable, and the MALTESE FALCON became the first vessel to utilise this modern square rigging technology, sealing her spot as one of the most unique boats in the world. 

11 – TATOOSH

In a world of sleek lines and a near-constant stream of new yacht designs, TATOOSH takes a different approach. Built by Nobiskrug in 2000, TATOOSH is a 92-metre yacht with a classic and timeless design. Her original owner, Craig McGraw, an American mobile phone magnate, wanted her to be built around tenders and helicopters. McGraw is fond of buying antique and vintage furniture and decor at auctions in the United States, and the designers incorporated his eclectic finds into the yacht, making TATOOSH feel like a true home from home. Her interior is full of classic furniture and decor, matching her timeless exterior. She also carries multiple tenders – including a 12-metre racing sailing boat – and has plenty of room for more. Additionally, TATOOSH features bulletproof windows and walls reinforced with Kevlar. This security was paramount to facilitating safe circumnavigation. The ship is reported to have contained a full British armoury and even had eight Gurkhas – elite Nepalese soldiers made famous for their service in the British Army, on board as crew members during McGraw’s time as owner. All of these interesting aspects of TATOOSH have cemented her place as one of the world’s most unique yachts . 

12 – ROYAL FALCON ONE

A truly out-of-this-world vessel and the only catamaran on this list, the ROYAL FALCON ONE is a 41.4-metre multi-hull vessel built by Kockums Shipyard and Royal Falcon Fleet in 2019. The design was handled by Studio F.A. Porsche, and one does not have to look far to see the influence of Porsche’s designers. The curves of the vessel are reminiscent of the rear of a Porsche 911. However, the vessel was not originally thought of with Porsche in mind. The owner wanted a vessel that was effectively a floating spaceship. Porsche certainly accomplished this, and the Royal Falcon One attracts attention in every marina thanks to her sleek profile and unique yacht design. The spaceship theme does not stop at the interior, and the designers included a host of features, such as a walkway lined with 14 RGB screens to connect two spaces. Most of the interior is quite open, thanks to the catamaran design, with the main deck being referred to as the capsule. From bow to stern, the ROYAL FALCON ONE is certainly an out-of-this-world vessel. 

13 – GALAXY

GALAXY is a 56-metre Benetti superyacht built in 2005, with a rather typical exterior for a modern yacht. However, what makes GALAXY unique is her interior following a recent five-month refit. Her interior was completely reimagined, bringing new life to the vessel. The main deck of GALAXY has been reimagined as a member’s club with artwork by artist Dylan Cole, known for Disney’s Avatar. Suites on the vessel have been redesigned based on various planets in the solar system, with each suite incorporating the various hues of the planets, with Mars, for instance, featuring tones of reddish brown. The vessel even features a specially engineered floor. These are just a few features the owners incorporated into their new floating home. With this refit, GALAXY went from just another unassuming and commonplace white yacht to a vessel with one of the most unique interiors. 

14 – VENUS

VENUS is a 78.2-metre motor yacht built by Feadship with a head-turning, minimalist design. The superyacht was built for the late Apple founder Steve Jobs, who passed away before the vessel was completed. Her beautiful minimalist look is reminiscent of an Apple product, featuring a striking silver paint job, gleaming stainless-steel details and a low-slung superstructure made entirely of glass. Her exterior is extremely clean, with nothing to detract from her slick design; most notably, she has no visible radar arch or satellite equipment. Today, VENUS is still in the family and not available for charter, and her interior is shrouded in secrecy. When photographers were able to get close enough to afford a glimpse inside, they noticed the bridge lined with Mac computer screens. One can only imagine the unique design features Steve Jobs incorporated into his yacht, but even by only considering what is publicly known, VENUS still deserves a place on our most unique yacht list. 

15 –  OLIVIA O 

The 88.51-metre OLIVIA O has one of the most striking exterior hull shapes on this list, reminiscent of commercial ships thanks to the X-BOW design. Her owner has a love for industrial vessels, which explains his yacht’s iconic shape. OLIVIA O was delivered in Norway in 2018 by Ulstein Verft AS. She is the ultimate expedition yacht, well suited to rough seas and with a modern interior making excellent use of both wood and metal. OLIVIA O is described as a “go anywhere, do anything yacht”, adding the luxury one expects from a yacht to the ruggedness and sheer capability of commercial vessels.

2. Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg is one of the most well-known film director and screen writer and when he's not working doing either of those, he can usually be found sailing on the seven seas, literally.

Spielberg is the owner of the 86-meter Seven Seas built by Oceanco, and it is the epitome of luxury, from bow to stern. The luxury yacht is said to feature a beautiful infinity pool with a 15-foot glass wall that transforms into a large, outdoor cinema screen for watching all of his hit movies on with his guests - maybe.

The famous golfer who has also been in the news for his gone-public, extra-marital affairs, owns the Privacy , a $25  million super yacht. It was a gift to his ex-wife for their wedding, however, after the divorce, his ex-wife no longer wanted the yacht due to the expense of keeping it up.

 The 164-foot mega yacht, Privacy has 5 bedrooms for entertaining guests and is full of amazing luxuries, such as a 50-inch plasma screen TV that pops up from a built-in cabinet and swivels to face either the dining area or saloon.

The mingling areas are all spacious and open, with lots of natural light and the galley was equipped with a non-standard feature, a Miele Espresso machine.

5. Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp is an American actor who is best known for his unusual characters he plays in movies; Edward Scissorhands, Who's Eating Gilbert Grape? And The Pirates of the Caribbean , series.

He has always been in the news over the years for one reason or another, whether good news or bad, but despite what the tabloids say about Depp, one thing they can't say is that he hasn't been successful in his career.

She is always recording, touring or taking a little vaca with her husband and daughter, Blue Ivy. Beyoncé has been seen with her family, aboard the luxurious super yacht that is loaded with amenities to fit a queen including a beautiful swimming pool at the aft deck, spa, touch and go helipad, and spacious cabins for hosting up to 12 guests.

10.  Giorgio Armani

Famous Italian, fashion designer Giorgio Armani doesn't just design fabulous clothes, but he also sails the world on his luxury mega yacht,  Main . This is a classy designed super yacht built by Codecasa ship builders and is so stylish, in fact, that the yacht has drawn plenty of attention with its black, almost aggressive look, since he's owned it, and has had photographers searching it out for photo shoots. Armani also had a second yacht that he named, Maria, after his mother. His second yacht is 163 feet in length, while Main, is 65 meters long.

11. Sean "Diddy" Combs

Rapper, record producer, actor and entrepreneur, Sean "Diddy" Combs , is also known as "Puff Daddy, Diddy," or P. Diddy. He's a native from Harlem and has become a fixture in the rapper world and has taken away two Grammys during his career, as well as two MTV music video awards. His success is seen when you see his 54-foot super yacht.

Some of the features the yacht exhibits are a projector screen and stage, a party floor and built-in bar on the top deck of the yacht. The yacht is equipped to handle and requires 10 members on board to run it.

The Beckhams are each famous in their own right,  but together, they have become a sensation. His ads are everywhere. Calvin Klein is a super famous fashion designer and the owner of a luxurious super yacht. With a net worth of $700 million, it's fitting that this is one toy he would own. He sails the seas in luxury on a 4.57 meter super yacht built by Palmer Johnson. Klein re-designed the decks in order to be able to host parties better. His yacht includes an on-board Jacuzzi, relaxation pads, BBQ, and bar. There are six cabins to host up to 12 guests.

She's a celebrity and one of the most popular names in pop culture. The Jenner's have enough money for a super yacht, and that's exactly what they own. Kendall Jenner is one of the Kardashian's from the realty TV show, The Kardashian's and her and her then, husband, Harry Styles love the 236 foot Axioma and were often seen cruising the Caribbean on the beautifully designed luxury liner.

They were known for hosting sailing parties with such people like Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres. The super yacht sports a Jacuzzi and below-deck cinema and swimming, among other breathtaking luxuries. It has been said that Kendall loves to call on the crew to answer to her every whim and get spoiled well while out at sea on the Axioma .

15. J.K.Rowling

In Jauray of 2016, J.K. Rowling, author of Harry Potter and subsequent books, bought Vajoliroja . It was once owned by another famous name, Johnny Depp, who named it using the initials of several people he loved in his life; his ex-wife, and his children. When J.K. Rowling took ownership, she changed the name to Amphitrite. It is a less aggressive and more sedate looking yacht, compared to the newer, more modern vessels that sail on the seas.

16. Steve Jobs

The late Apple founder was swimming in money, which is why he could afford a super yacht like Venus. This is a 78 metre mega yacht that was constructed by the infamous ship builder, Feadship. The Venus is a very private super yacht with more inside amenities than out, extremely high-tech an covered in glass for the ultimate privacy. 

She sports a computer-packed bridge and probably a host of other cool technology amenities, all over the vessel. Although Jobs passed away, Venus is till owned by the family.  As a matter-of-fact, the yacht was seen cruising around the Greek Isles last summer.

17. Richard Branson

Richard Branson, a famous entrepreneur, does a lot of sailing on his 32-metre catamaran superyacht, Necker Belle , which he named after his famous island hideaway. The superyacht was constructed and launched by CMN in 2003 and has been used for charter while he owned it.

This is a yacht that was truly designed for partying, in luxury. It has a big sundeck that is used for entertaining, along with a wide range of water toys to play with, along the voyage, as well as plenty of space for bringing friends and family. This is the ultimate relaxation super yacht, for those who want to get away from the hustles and bustles of life, and relax.

18. Billy Joel

Billy Joel is a famous singer and song writer from the 1980's who not only is well-known for his music, but is also remembered for his marriage to the famous super model, Christi Brinkley. Joel owns the Vendetta , the modern classic super yacht that measures 17 metres and was designed to be a replica of the old, classic commuter that was launched and popular back in the late 1920's.

They were used for their speed to run down the Long Island Sound and into New York City. Joel has actually used his super "commuter" yacht to run from his home in Long Island, into the city for a concert performance. There was a time that Joel actually owned 5 yachts, one of which was a 29 metre Inace explrer yacht, named Audacious.

19. David Geffen

David Geffen is not only an American film producer and record executive. He's a very successful business man and co-created from Asylum Records, to Dream Works SKG with Steven Spielberg, as well as Geffen Records.

He is the owner of a Jon Bannenberg super yacht and it is one of the largest ships on record. The Rising Sun has an amazing, 82 rooms on board, Jacuzzi tubs in every cabin bathroom, a basketball court, heli-pad, wine cellar and a movie theatre for entertaining guests. The cost of the super yacht was $200 million to build.

20. Paul Allen

Paul Allen is the co-founder of Microsoft ad is one rich guy who can obviously afford some expensive toys, with this 414-foot super yacht being one of them.

The $200 million yacht named, Octopus, and it is loaded with luxurious features, including a movie theater, basketball court, recording studio, two helicopters, a pool, and it can accommodate up to 26 guests in the 41 cabin suites it has, as well there are 26 cabins set-up for the 64 crewman Allen keeps hired to run the vessel.

The super yacht takes Paul Allen $384,000 a week to maintain it. The Octopus also carries two submarines below, for state-of-the-art exploration. The Octopus has been said to be more of a Range Rover rather than a Bentley as far as what it is designed with for exploration with the subs and the two heli-pads set up on the upper deck.

Explorer 62, the revolution in the explorer yachts

Just by looking at it from the outside, one can sense its extraordinary stability and the immense space offered on board, but stepping on it the sensation is even more incredible. The feeling that Explorer 62 offers anyone who sets foot on it is that of a yacht that is radically different from any yacht ever seen before, one that has already revolutionized the standards in the yachting world in a way from which there will never be a return: we are in fact in front of an open space yacht that at the same time gives a solid feeling of safety, with an intelligent and extremely accurate study of the spaces and a genuine sense of design; a true floating home that gives an infinite feeling of contact with the sea. Explorer 62 is a yacht with a distinctly Teutonic personality, with rigorous and functional aesthetic lines that have immediately made their mark on the industry. It is no coincidence that in the year of its launch the boat won the prestigious ‘Best Layout 2021 ‘ award assigned by World Yachts Trophies last September at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Designed by Davide Cipriani of Centrostiledesign and built by the Explorer Loy shipyard, managed by Riccardo Radice with Günter Neumann and Ferdinand Dorn , Explorer 62 is an incredibly comfortable and convenient yacht, with interiors that give the idea of being aboard a much larger craft than 62 feet, both for the clever exploitation of the hull and thanks to the windows that offer a 360-degree view of the sea, extending the yacht’s dimensions beyond its own limits. But above all, what is most impressive is the sensation of strength and cruising stability: both when moored and when underway, Explorer 62 has very little oscillation, almost as on dry land, thanks to the scrupulous weight balance studied down to the smallest detail, combining technical innovations with design. Its balance is a characteristic that can be perceived even when the yacht is stationary, and seems to be on dry land rather than moored at the quay.

This combination of elements is literally conquering owners: in the first days of the last Venice Boat Show alone, where we saw this and other boats, Explorer sold three units; and at this point we can’t wait to admire the next 78-foot model, which the yard plans to launch within a couple of years, confident that this yard will continue to revolutionize the standards.

In 1954, Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis took Christina O, a former Canadian naval frigate, and turned her into a playground for the rich and famous . John F. Kennedy, Winston Churchill, Liz Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and many more have since set sail on the Christina O.

The Lady Moura:

• Was built in 1990 for Saudi Arabian businessman Nasser Al-Rashid.
• The yacht’s name is carved from 24-carat gold lettering:
• Onboard this 344-foot yacht you find a pool, a helicopter, and a 75-foot dining room table.

But the most outstanding aspect of the Lady Moura is its private extendable beach: a sand-covered hydraulic platform that extends out from the side of the yacht down by the waterline, and comes fully equipped with palm trees, beach chairs, and real sand.

8. Luxury Yacht Dilbar (Market price: $256 million)

The Dilbar:

• said to be one of the world’s largest boats at 360-feet long and 50-feet high.
• was built in 2008 and owned by Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov.

With swimming pools, a helipad and enormous multi-layered decks that can host 20 people on each , the Dilbar is the one luxury yacht for Usmanov to cruise around his many private islands. If you already own a bunch of private islands, you might as well top that with one of the largest yachts in the world.

7. Luxury Yacht Al Said (Market price: $300 million)

The Al Said houses a concert hall big enough to accommodate a 50-piece orchestra — that’s how big we’re talking. This huge luxury yacht can host up to 70 guests and a crew of 154.

The Al Said:

• was built by Lürssen Yachts in 2008 .
• is owned by Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, the Sultan of Orman.
• can move at up to 22 knots and at the time of her launch was considered the world’s most powerful superyacht.

6. Luxury Motor Yacht A (Market price: $323 million)

Motor Yacht A :

• is 390-feet-long.
• is one of the most unusual-looking luxury yachts on the list, but the Russian billionaire, Andrey Melnichenko, certainly likes this style.
• it’s got a helicopter pad, three pools (one with a glass bottom that sits over the disco hall), a silver-plated staircase and a 30-foot speedboat.

The interior of Motor Yacht A covers:

• over 24,000 square feet;
• the master suite a whopping 2,583; and
• houses a disco hall and six guest suites that can be converted into four large staterooms thanks to the yacht’s moving walls.

But, believe it or not, Motor Yacht A wasn’t quite lavish enough for the Russian billionaire, so he upgraded to something even more enormous, which you’ll discover below. If you’re already a billionaire, you need to own the top of the tops in terms of yachts.

5. Luxury Yacht Dubai (Market price: $350 million)

• has been owned by the Sheikh of Dubai since 2006, but was originally commissioned 10 years earlier as the Golden Star by Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei.

Guests aboard the Dubai will find:

• a glass staircase;
• a swimming pool;
• a helipad; and
• several jacuzzis.

The decadent interior is full of mosaics and bold colors, while the spacious deck areas create a large social area and lounge, and numerous VIP and guest suites. The Dubai can host a whopping 115 guests and is currently the world’s third-largest yacht. She definitely deserves it’s spot on the list of the world’s most luxury yachts.

4. Luxury Sailing Yacht A (Market price: $400 million)

Here we are. The latest and greatest edition to the superyacht world. Not to be confused with Motor Yacht A, Sailing Yacht A is something of an upgrade for Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko .

Considered the world’s largest sailing yacht :

• at 468 feet in length and with ship masts nearing 300-feet high.
• has eight floors and an underwater observation room.
• can hold a crew of 54 attending just 20 guests.
• can also reach a maximum speed of 24 miles per hour, even with a steel hull and a teak-finish deck. It’s one serious yacht.

3. Top 3 of the world’s most luxurious yachts: Azzam (Market price: $650 million)

• is another superyacht creation by the people of Lürssen Yachts , who claimed it was “the most complex and challenging yacht that has ever been built.”
• at $650 million and 590-feet long, the Azzam is said to be the largest private yacht in the world.
• can reach speeds of up to 30 knots and boasts incredibly luxurious interiors designed by French interior decorator Christophe Leoni.

2. Luxury Yacht Streets of Monaco (Market price: $1.1 billion)

This yacht design has got to be one of the most absurd and unnecessary luxury items we’ve ever seen. But, hey — it’s not our $1.1 billion. As you might have guessed, Streets of Monaco is a floating replica of the city of Monaco. In the picture above you can certainly recognise the capital of the Monegasse.

Luxury Yacht Streets of Monaco :

• was designed by Yacht Island Design of Derbyshire County in England, and is still waiting to be funded by a billionaire owner.
• at 500-foot superyacht features the famous Monte Carlo Casino and racetrack, as well as Hotel de Paris, Cafe de Paris, La Rascasse and the Loews Hotel.
• hosts just seven guest suites onboard, all with private reception rooms, bathrooms, dressing rooms and balconies.

The main suite is the size of a luxury penthouse, taking up three floors and 4,800 square feet. Streets of Monaco has swimming pools, tennis courts, a mini waterfall, a cafe-bar with underwater views, a helipad and submarines.

1. The top of the luxury yachts in the world: Eclipse (Market price: $1.2 billion)

That’s right — the yacht of yet another Russian billionaire. Roman Abramovich is the proud owner of the Eclipse, which was created by Blohm and Voss of Hamburg and measures 536-feet in length.

What the yacht Eclipse has to offer:

• disco hall;
• two helipads;
• 24 guest cabins;
• 70 crew members;
• two swimming pools;
• a mini-submarine;
• several jacuzzis;
• three launch boats; and
• is believed to have several secret exits (one might only wonder what they are used for).

The master suite is 5,000 square feet big, features bulletproof windows, and includes a private garden. This yacht even has an anti-paparazzi laser shield sweeping the surrounding areas!

I love spending time on yachts during the summer, but I will probably never have the opportunity of being on one of these ten yachts. However, I would definitely choose to take a ride on the Streets of Monaco if I had the chance. I would spend my time swimming, playing tennis and, of course, taking a ride in the submarine.

These boats are beautiful, not to mention they’re massive! Holy cow, they’re very expensive too. Which is funny, because my boss would like to rent one and take all the employees on a cruise. I’d like to know how much they’re to rent.

What makes a superyacht concept stand out? When the only limit is a designer's imagination, the results can sometimes be extreme – but more often than not, a pioneering design comes to the fore. BOAT takes a look at what set apart this year's most impressive entries...

Length:  131m Designer:  Giles Taylor, Oceanco , Lateral Naval Architects and Njord by Bergman Standout feature : Eco-minded interiors

Named after the Greek god of wind, Aeolus takes after its elemental namesake with a fluid, organic exterior design. A beam of 18 metres and gross tonnage of 6,200 has allowed for a number of multi-functional areas, including "pod-like" spaces that prioritise privacy and more open areas with sweeping views through large glass windows. This project's interiors focus on sustainable “biomaterials”, including vegan leather made from cactus and organically certified cotton.

Length: 88m Designer : Jozeph Forakis , Lateral Naval Architects Standout feature : A world first in construction

Pegasus was presented in February as the world’s first "3D-printed" superyacht. Mirrored glass and a tiered superstructure allow the vessel to blend in with the surrounding landscape, while the interior centres around a multi-level "Tree of Life" hydroponic garden, designed to provide guests with fresh food and air purification. Aft, an open beach club with Jacuzzi can transform into a solarium.

Length: 83m Designer: Feadship , Studio De Voogt Standout feature : A never-before-seen mast design

Dunes' unconventional design (meant to mimic undulating waves of sand) is paired with eco-minded features that include a signature cooling mast design, extra-capacity storage batteries, a new type of fuel cell and a radical propulsor. According to the shipyard, if built Dunes would eliminate up to 95 per cent of the potential negative environmental factors associated with operating a superyacht.

Length: 80m Designer: Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design Standout feature : Clever use of onboard space

Unveiled in September, this ready-to-build superyacht proposal focuses on maximizing onboard space within the yacht’s slim, limited structure. Open-plan, flexible layouts prevail, seen best in the beach club which has head heights of three metres, fold-down terraces and integrated sliding glass partitions. The Dutch studio has a number of award-winning yachts in its portfolio, including the 60-metre Heesen yacht Lusine and the 77.2-metre Pi .

Length: 65m Designer: Golden Yachts , Phathom Studio Standout feature: The loft-like owner's cabin

October saw the reveal of Vesper, a project "more akin to an architectural residence than a typical 65 metre superyacht". This is realised most clearly in the owner's cabin, which spans a two-level apartment and includes a his-and-hers en suite, a wardrobe and a large open-connect lounge with an adjoining study. Pantograph doors lead to a private balcony with an infinity-edged spa pool, rock water wall and an outdoor lounge area.

6. Project Stardust

Length: 63m Designer: Tankoa Yachts , Giuseppina Arena , Abbasli Design Studio Standout feature: An unusual crow's nest

This celestial concept was unveiled at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show with the help of yachting influencer Denis Suka (also known as The Yacht Mogul). Tankoa explained the yacht's namesake – by night, exterior decks are illuminated by a collection of twinkling lights that turn the yacht into an "interstellar spaceship". Another unique feature is the observation deck-crow's nest hybrid, which creates an open-air setting for enjoying while underway or at anchor.

Length: 58m Designer: DRIFT Energy, ShadowCAT Standout feature : Environmental potential

Short for "Most Valuable Yacht" (referring to its green credentials), this megawatt-class support vessel will be capable of generating, storing and delivering energy by itself. Turbines will capture the kinetic energy of the vessel and store it onboard as "green hydrogen", to be later offloaded at a designated port. According to the company, this concept has the potential to abate a gigatonne of CO2 by 2050.

Humans have always been curious to find out what’s behind that mountain range, how’s the view from the top, what new and exciting places lie beyond that next forest, that next road, that open sea. Beyond the horizon.

We’ve always been discoverers longing to go onto our next adventure. And since our planet is mostly explored on land and space is a little bit too far away, the only thing with plenty of mysteries left to uncover is the ocean.

And to explore oceans, nothing is more suited than an explorer yacht.

Fully equipped to take on adventures to some of the most remote places on Earth, and large enough to house an impressive range of toys and plenty of storage space for all that’s needed for a few weeks away at sea, these yachts will tickle that desire to leave everything behind and go chasing that blue horizon.

For those for whom cruises are a waste of time, these 20 largest explorer yachts in the world will make a lot more sense:

• 20. Sea Ranger – 255’1″ (77.73m)

The 255 feet Sea Ranger was built in 1973 in Germany as an ice class tug and converted in 1994 by Malta Drydock Company into a luxury yacht for Jackie Setton, a French entrepreneur.

It received its current name in 2013 when it was auctioned and changed ownership. The vessel has an unbelievable range of 31,000 nautical miles, and has already seen most of the world, including both the Arctic and the Antarctic.

• 19. Bart Roberts – 265′ (80.77m)

An ice class vessel built in 1963 by Canadian Vickers for the Canadian Coastguard, Bart Roberts was formerly called Narwhal. It got its new name – one belonging to a notorious pirate – back in 2002, when it was sold to a Florida businessman Arnie Gemino, who converted the ship into a charter yacht through his company, Tradepower International.

The refitted ship now comes with a new and luxurious interior with a pirate theme, plus all sorts of water toys, but it has a new owner, who keeps it for private use.

• 18. Pacific – 279’6″ (85.2m)

Launched in 2010 by Lürssen, the Pacific, formerly named Project Josi, is an 85.2 meter explorer yacht with an intriguing exterior designed by German Frers, an iconic Argentinian naval architect well known for projecting some of the largest sailing yachts in the world. The interior was made by Bannenberg & Rowell Design.

The yacht is large enough for carrying two helicopters, and apparently it has been already spotted navigating all over the world.

• 17. Bold – 279’8″ (85.3m)

A 2019 creation of Silver Yachts, Bold was a collaboration between exterior designer Espen Øino and interior designer firm Vain Interiors. The result is a 279 feet, or 85.3 meter long explorer yacht with no less than 300 square meter of usable surface inside, plus an impressive and luxurious interior that resembles more a New York loft than a yacht.

Bold can accommodate up to 16 guests in its eight staterooms situated on the main deck. In total it can carry up to 96 passengers while cruising. It also features two helipads, two Rupert Marine tenders, and comes with a total range of 5,500 nautical miles before needing to resupply.

• 16. OceanXplorer 1 – 285’7″ (87.1m)

OceanXplorer 1 is one of, if not the most advanced research vessel in the world right now. The 285 feet, or 87 meter, ship was built in 2010 by Freire Shipyard and equipped to both be able to explore the underwater world and also transmit its findings through various digital outlets, including social media and a TV show.

The research part of the vessel will benefit from two custom made Triton manned submarines able to dive down to 1,000 meters, plus an ROV and an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) that has the capability to dive as deep as 6,000 meters below sea level.

• 15. Arctic P – 287’4″ (87.6m)

Built by Schichau Unterweser in 1969, the 87.6 meter Arctic P is a deep sea ice-breaking salvage tug that fulfilled its purpose until 1993, when she was sold to a company called Magenta Investment. From then on, it was taken to Malta Shipyards and converted into a superyacht, now called Arctic Research.

The exterior was designed by Kusch Yachts, and Schichau Unterweser, the original builder, remade the naval architecture. The interior was refitted between 2019 and 2020, now able to accommodate 12 guests in seven staterooms, one of which is an astonishing 90 square meter master suite.

• 14. Olivia O – 290’3″ (88.5m)

The grandiose 290’3″ feet (88.5m) Olivia O was put to sea in 2020 and she already started a cruise in the Mediterranean. The ship was built by the Norwegian yard Ulstein Verft, and uses an X-Bow hull shape that gives it the ability to withstand any kind of weather conditions.

Espen Øino was the exterior designer, and he included a helipad, a 10 meter pool, and a full beam tender garage among the vessel’s most important features.

• 13. Ice – 295’6″ (90.1m)

Belonging to Suleiman Kerimov, Ice is one of the most iconic and impressive yachts that roams the planet’s oceans. Amazingly stylish and with an imposing construction, the 90.1 meter explorer yacht was built in 2005 by German yard Lürssen.

The performance of this yacht is no less than impressive, since it’s incredibly quiet and vibration free, a feat achieved through the use of two Azipod units powered by eight Deutz engines. Top speed is 18.6 knots and range reaches 6,000 nautical miles.

Among the features, it counts various water toys and sailing dinghies, plus a helicopter landing pad made specifically for the Eurocopter EC 135 helicopter.

• 12. Voyager – 299’8″ (91.4m)

The 91.4 meter long Voyager was built back in 1997 by the Swiftships yard in the United States, and by 2020 it had already travelled over 27,000 nautical miles, exploring some of the most far-flung places on Earth, including Antarctica, South Africa, and Madagascar.

But Voyager wasn’t always an explorer yacht. It was converted into one in 2019, and was a supply ship before starting the three year conversion. It was initially named Candy Trader and had a length of only 63 meters, was renamed in 2003 as HOS Trader, and now is the beauty called Voyager, with five luxurious decks and a crew of 70.

• 11. Tranquility – 300’2″ (91.5m)

Originally called Equanimity, the 91.5 meter explorer yacht was the first ever to be built to PYC standard. It was launched in 2014 by the Dutch yard Oceanco.

On board, it features five decks with premium accommodation, spa and wellness area, swimming pool, tender garage with two 10.5 meter Hodgson tenders, and also a foredeck helicopter landing pad. Among the water toys, there’s Jet skis, Wave Runners, SeaBobs and an electric surfboard. How’s that for a fun yacht?

• 10. Icecap – 351′ (107m)

The 107 meter, or 351 feet, Icecap explorer superyacht will be launched next year, in 2023. Designed by Norwegians at Salt Ship Design and built to ice class spec, the vessel will be well fit to do some off the beaten path exploring, able to reach some of the most remote corners of our world.

Among the features, there’s a sunken helicopter hangar, and a helipad. So far, not much is known, and she was first seen earlier this year when she was uncovered.

• 9. Andromeda – 352’3″ (107.4m)

Formerly known as Ulysses, the 107 meter Andromeda was built in 2016 in Norway, by Kleven Verft, for Graeme Hart, New Zealand’s richest man. The new owner of the ship is apparently Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook.

Andromeda is built to withstand all weather conditions, and comes equipped with all sorts of toys for exploring distant lands. Among them, there’s six motorcycles, two ATVs, a Sealegs amphibious RIB, a twin hull support boat capable of a max speed of 50 knots, helicopter, and a full-on landing craft.

• 8. Freire 112m Explorer – 366’9″ (111.8m)

The Freire 112m Explorer, built by Spain’s Freire Shipyard, is an explorer superyacht that boasts amazing interiors, and a tough looking exterior. The ship’s exterior was designed by Marin Teknikk and British studio Bannenberg & Rowell Design.

The interior of the yacht was designed by the British studio alone. The vessel was launched in the summer of 2021, and spent the time getting ready for its delivery in 2022.

• 7. Le Grand Bleu – 370′ (112.8m)

Le Grand Bleu was launched in 2000, after being built by the German shipyard Bremer Vulkan. Powered by two Deutz engines, it’s capable of reaching a top speed of 17 knots.

It was initially owned by John McCaw, a US telecommunications tycoon, and was then sold to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who had it refitted to his own desires. The ship changed ownership again, and is now reportedly owned by Eugene Shvidler, a friend and business associate of Abramovich.

• 6. Luna – 377’3″ (115m)

Delivered in 2010 by German yard Lloyd Werft, the 115 meter ice class yacht Luna was built for the Russian businessman Roman Abramovich. The vessel boasted the largest swimming pool ever installed on a yacht at launch.

In 2014, Luna was purchased by Farkhad Akhmedov from Abramovich, and followed a 14 month and €50 million refit in Germany. The modernized yacht features two helipads on the upper deck, two tender garages, gym, beach club, spa, steam bath, plunge pool, and sauna.

• 5. Ulysses – 380’9″ (116.1m)

Following its predecessor, the 107 meter Andromeda (formerly called Ulysses), the current Ulysses was launched in 2018, and measures 116.1 meters, 10 meters longer than its precursor.

It was built by Norwegian yard Kleven for the same owner who commissioned the first Ulysses, and brings on board a Bell 429 helicopter, and several high speed tenders. Its 18 meter beam can house up to 66 guests.

• 4. J7 Explorer – 393’7″ (120m)

The J7 Explorer was launched this year in Indonesia, by the PT Bahtera Bahari Shipyard. The 120 meter (393’7″) ship boasts a military style exterior, with a large, open aft deck that characterizes most explorer superyachts today.

There’s little else known about the vessel, so the owner or the purpose are both unknown. What is clear is that it’s the first ever superyacht built by the shipyard, which so far only built tankers, diving vessels, tug boats, commercial vessels, and landing crafts.

• 3. Octopus – 414′ (126.2m)

The 414 feet Octopus was built in 2003 by Lürssen in Germany for one of Microsoft’s founders, Paul Allen. The vessel is already famous worldwide, sitting among the top 3 largest explore yachts, with a capacity for two helicopters, and plenty of water toys, including a 20 meter submarine and a similar size tender.

One of the missions Octopus was involved in was an eight year search for a sunken ship, the Japanese ship Musashi, which was sunk during the Second World War. The wreck was discovered in 2015 by Paul Allen and Octopus’s crew.

Octopus was reportedly sold for an unbelievable €235,000,000 in 2021.

• 2. Solaris – 458’3″ (139.7m)

Launched in 2021, the 139 meter Solaris made world fame for its incredible length. The vessel was built by the same German yard Lloyd Werft who built the 115 meter Luna.

Solaris boasts no less than eight decks, with an interior designed by Australian Marc Newson. When it comes to features, not much is known, but existing pictures show at least a large helicopter landing pad, sun deck and a huge beach club aft.

The Solaris is currently the largest explorer yacht in the world.

• 1. REV Ocean – 600′ (182.9m)

The REV Ocean is a project by VARD Group AS that was supposed to leave for its first research voyage last year, in 2021. The 182.9 meter (600′) long ship would have dethroned Solaris by 40 meters if it wasn’t for a delay of its launch.

The next launch date was scheduled sometime in 2024. The yacht will provide accommodation for up to 55 scientists and 35 crew for a research and exploration trip, or 36 passengers and 54 crew for a luxury voyage.

The delay seems to be related to technical issues relating to the ship’s weight.

It’s said that the difference between boys and men is only the size of their toys, and explorer yachts seem to prove that.

These are some of the best vessels for exploring our oceans and seas, able to reach the farthest and most remote corners of our planet, and providing an impressive array of options for exploring the world under the surface.

With a combined length of 2,929 feet, the world’s top 10 superyachts scheduled for delivery this year are moving away from the idea that yachting is about whose boat is bigger. The trend is now more about mission than size. This year’s launches will be wide ranging, from motoryachts to sailing vessels, explorers and even a giant sportfish.

The list includes offerings from German shipyard Lürssen , which has two 400-foot-plus yachts ready to splash this year, with noteworthy deliveries from other shipyards in Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands showcasing different definitions of design, power and performance.

Here are the yachts we can’t wait to see.

‘Koru’ (564 feet) Oceanco

Jeff Bezos’ first yacht, Koru , was spotted last week on sea trials. The Amazon founder chose to make a bold design statement by commissioning the world’s largest sailing yacht, not to mention the longest pleasure vessel, motor or sail, ever from The Netherlands. Built by Oceanco, the titanic sailing machine is an incredible 3300 GT, powered by kinetic energy generated by the sails. Besides its massive length, its classic canoe stern, a double-deck wooden coach house and navy hull with a red stripe differentiate Koru from any other vessel on the water. The project remains hush-hush. Even the designers remain a secret.

‘Liva’ (387 feet, 1 inch) Abeking & Rasmussen

Launched late last year and scheduled to be delivered in early 2023, Liva is the largest yacht built by Abeking to date, overtaking the German shipyard’s previous flagship Aviva by 65 feet. The French studio Joseph Dirand Architecture was commissioned to pen both the exterior and interior, which is reported to include a semi-submerged underwater observation room on the lower deck, a supersized pool, helipad, spa with sauna and beauty salon, and a lower-deck beach club.

‘Alchemy’ (216 feet, 5 inches) Rossinavi

Commissioned by a private American client, the 216-foot multi-deck motoryacht Alchemy is one of three yachts to be launched by Italian shipyard Rossinavi in 2023. Exterior design is by Philippe Briand, with interior styling by Enrico Gobbi’s Team for Design. Little information has yet to be revealed, though it’s visible from images that the custom yacht features an axe bow, drop-down side terraces at the stern and large floor-to-ceiling windows that afford views from all levels.

Project Jag (400 feet) Lürssen

The 400-foot displacement motoryacht known only as “Project Jag” is reported to be the owner’s third Lürssen. His most recent is Kismet . It is set for delivery in late 2023. Capable of sleeping 20 guests and 40 crew, the gigayacht is equipped with a helipad, spa, swimming pool, two cinemas, gym and storage for a sub. Italian design firm Nuvolari Lenard designed the steel yacht’s exterior, while UK studio Reymond Langton has crafted what is rumored to be a “bespoke homage to the owner’s lifestyle”—whatever that means.

Project Luminance (426 feet, 5 inches) Lürssen

Project Luminance is a 426.5-foot motor yacht that Lürssen claims will be one of the largest and most technologically advanced boats in the world. It’s also the largest yacht due to deliver in 2023. Construction began in 2018, yet few details have been revealed. What we do know is that the seventh-largest project to ever come out of the German shipyard to date features state-of-the-art propulsion systems, advanced navigation and communication systems, as well as next-generation entertainment.

‘T52’ (170 feet) Baglietto

The first model in Baglietto’s T52 line, which splashed in February 2023, features sleek lines and aerodynamic grills penned by Francesco Paszkowski Design. Power comes from a diesel-electric-hybrid propulsion system. The yacht celebrates outdoor space, including a large multi-level beach club at the stern with a fold-down transom, oversized sunbeds and a swimming pool with a floor that rises flush with the deck. Sliding windows on the upper deck convert space into an open-air sky lounge and a 78-foot sundeck with a glass-encased hot tub.

Project 406 (170 feet, 6 inches) Royal Huisman

The Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman made its name building some of the world’s largest sailing yachts, including 296-foot Athena , but now it’s hitting the record books again with the impending launch of Project 406 , the world’s largest sportsfisherman. Naval architecture, exterior and interior are by Dutch studio Vripack. The firm gave the six-decked aluminum yacht a towering profile promising spectacular front-row views of the big game fishing action. The team balanced its height by a long bow, high bulwarks and uncluttered fishing cockpit.

‘Black Shark’ (252 feet, 6 inches) Nobiskrug

Black Shark first began construction in 2019, but all work ceased when Nobiskrug later filed for insolvency. In March 2022, following the German shipyard’s acquisition by entrepreneur Lars Windhorst, work on Black Shark recommenced, with delivery set for 2023. The 252-foot boat, designed by Winch Design, gets its name from its predatory profile and mast shaped like a dorsal fin. A reverse bow, black matte hull and metallic silver superstructure will also help to enhance the marine connection.

‘Ultra G’ (196 feet, 8 inches) Heesen

Heesen is renowned for building fast boats, so it’s no surprise that Ultra G , equipped with a propulsion package totaling 22,000 horsepower, with four water jets and a top speed of 37 knots. The Dutch yard hailed this as its most powerful project to date. The motoryacht was commissioned by an avid sportfisherman, with a fighting chair and storage for 40 rods. Entertainment was also a big mandate for the design, stretching from Samsung’s “The Wall” screen, an infinity pool, and a dedicated self-cleaning “dog park” for furry guests.

‘Maverick’ (145 feet, 3 inches) Cantiere delle Marche

Maverick is the first Flexplorer 142 to soon be delivered by Cantiere delle Marche (CdM), bought by a young German who is a keen sailor and serial owner of both sailing boats and motoryachts. The owner’s itinerary will see him cruising the Mediterranean, before heading to the Northern latitudes to cross the Northwest Passage and put Hydro Tec’s bold exterior design and running surface to the test. Key features include a custom-built A-frame crane that sits flush on the deck when not in use, collapsible bulwarks that fold-down to reveal a 1,450-square-foot beach club, and an infinity pool at the transom.

Toby Hodges takes a look at all the nominees and the winner of the best luxury yacht category in the European Yacht of the Year Awards

The definition of the best luxury yacht will differ according to personal opinion and from boat to boat. This year’s nominees in the luxury yacht category of the European Yacht of the Year Awards proved that perfectly.

The European Yacht of the Year awards are selected by a broad panel of expert judges from across the globe. These are people who spend their professional lives sailing and comparing yachts, so you can be certain that the yachts which stand out in this field are truly the best of the best on the market.

The best luxury yachts

Best luxury yacht winner 2024 – arcona 50.

When you enter the fiercely competitive 50ft luxury performance yacht market you better get it right. And the jury felt Arcona managed that. This watershed design for the traditional Swedish brand, by X-Yachts co-founder and former designer Niels Jeppesen, is a big, contemporary new Arcona, one that sees it move away from its cruiser-racer heritage and classic interiors.

The on trend styling inside and out is backed up by a premium level of build and finish quality and sailing performance – particularly if you have the performance sails, traveller and deep (2.95m) keel options the test boat carried, although the latter does limit your berthing and anchoring options.

While I doubt it’ll be raced or will suit typical bluewater use, it offers a purity of performance push-button sailing: a handsome prospect upwind in a light breeze, it transforms into a powerful reaching machine with stacks of control.

As chairman of our jury, Jochen Rieker, puts it: “The boat certainly did not win for her somewhat borrowed looks. She wins by checking all the boxes in all other respects. Slipping along gracefully in the lightest of airs, holding her stride and her balance in more demanding conditions, offering warmth, light and this reassuring feeling of utter quality down below – there simply isn’t anything to fault.”

Contest 50CS

The Contest 50CS, for example, is an archetype luxury cruising yacht, one built to the highest standards and that could take you to most waters in impeccable comfort. This model is, uniquely, available in two versions: this more conventional 50CS with aft master cabin, or the forward owner’s suite version on the aft cockpit Contest 49CS . We ran a full test on the latter after spending two days aboard in the North Sea, where that noticeably high freeboard, which may not aid boarding nor windage, helped keep us dry on deck in a steady Force 6 gusting 7.

As the 50CS proved, this Judel/Vrolijk design keeps slipping along in the light stuff too, providing enjoyable sailing in 6 knots breeze under a code sail. The centre cockpit offers a deep protected guest area, but also links well to the spacious aft deck.

And the Wetzels-Brown-designed interiors of Contests today are stunning and hard to match. The engineering, access to usable stowage, details and finish on the 50CS is first class and to get this level of quality at this size is special.

Both Contest and X-Yachts are early adopters of hybrid power, offering their bluewater cruisers with optional electric drives. For the XC 47 this was designed-in from the start to offer Oceanvolt’s award-winning new 25kW regenerative drive.

The XC 47 is another wonderfully engineered and thought out yacht for distance cruising, in particular for those who also enjoy hands-on helming pleasure. That should come as no surprise to any X aficionados, but what really struck me most about this yacht was the stowage, and the forethought needed to create that, together with how practical it has been made.

That may sound slightly anticlimactic but ask any long-term cruiser and stowage is always a priority. On deck, this constitutes a huge lazarette and sail locker, plus clever systems for launching a dinghy via davits and a liferaft canister, while below decks every square inch of space has been used effectively, with lockers hinged with gas struts.

It’s clear the Danish yard went to considerable time and effort, even building a full mock up of the interior that could be canted 20° each way.

If the deck saloon style looks didn’t sell this model to all – this is the first full non-Jeppesen designed X – the jury were converted once they’d taken the helm. ‘Quirky’ became ‘muscular and bold’. The ease with which it can be sailed from the cockpit was also appreciated.

While I understand many offshore cruisers like a protected centre cockpit and more sun protection, the attention to detail, stowage and practicalities, combined with the direct steering, motion and enjoyable sailing this X offers make it a standout new offering.

Jeanneau Yachts 55

Meanwhile the Jeanneau Yachts 55 stands out for different, unique reasons in this category, offering a completely new concept in comfort on deck while at anchor and a novel accommodation layout. Its focus is on outdoor living space.

What helps place this in a luxury bracket is not simply the price or the creative input of superyacht specialist design duo Philppe Briand and Andrew Winch, rather that its layout creates a palatial amount of private space for the owner’s suite. Guest cabins have their own direct access from the extensive cockpit via gullwing doors.

It certainly makes sense for solo owners or couples using it as a warm water apartment. How many people this will suit is another question, as it segregates any guests, crew or children from the galley and saloon.

I used the term monocat when I first viewed it, as the 55 really does attempt to mix the two worlds, particularly in terms of providing owner privacy and lounging space. Choose the rigid hard top and windshield and there’s a vast amount of covered area including a dinette and chart table – plus a bimini can shade all that extensive aft deck too.

The penalty comes in additional weight and wetted surface, and is felt in the handling and performance, the latter particularly in lighter breeze with the optional in-mast furling, self tacking headsail and shallow draught package we had. However, it’s set up to be easily managed from the mid cockpit with good visibility from the twin helms and easy circulation thanks to the ramped side decks. Full report in YW February 2024.

Best luxury yacht 2023

Best luxury yacht winner – oyster 495.

It is hard to imagine that the decor of a yacht can change its look and feel quite this much, yet the layout of this second 495, Eddie Jordan’s dramatic looking Tuga , is in fact identical to the first boat that I spent several days aboard last summer.

At its heart is a wonderfully (Humphreys) designed and engineered luxury bluewater cruiser conceived from the ground up, built in a new dedicated facility to a repeatable quality very few yards are capable of.

The 495 offers consistent passage making speeds in real voluminous comfort – whether enjoyed from the deep cockpit or the best-in-class aft cabin. Deck stowage and mechanical space is also superb.

Then factor in the family appeal of Oyster’s after sales and world rally programme and you start to appreciate the premium world this sub 50-footer gives access to.

The first yacht fully conceived under CEO Richard Hadida’s reign, this is also the smallest completely new Oyster 495 since 2005 – and it’s a triumph. It was our September 2022 cover star in which we featured the full review from our Oyster 495 three day test .

Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 60

The Oceanis Yacht 60 is a very different beast indeed to the 62 it replaces as flagship for the Beneteau range. The yard has learned plenty from the success of the First 53/OY 54 and wanted to create a 60 in this style and with the same deck layout (albeit larger and wider) and ease of circulation.

The construction experience of the smaller model clearly helped too, as this is a whopping five tonnes lighter than the bulky OY62 and with a deeper (2.6m) keel. The telling result is on the water. It feels sporty to helm and we averaged a knot slower than the single figure 6-8 knot windspeeds upwind and matched them reaching with Code 0 and a slight swell.

The vast cockpit works well, sheltered below the semi rigid bimini, it has plentiful lounging space with sailing systems led aft to the twin helms. The interior sees a 3+3 layout, where Beneteau wanted to get rid of the corridor effect of the OY62. The galley is forward to help open out space, while the forward suite with offset berth and headboard aft works well to give space with privacy.

This is an attractive, voluminous yacht that leaves a good overall impression whether under sail, on or below decks.

Ice 62 Targa

It all looks pretty funky below decks on the Ice 62 Targa too, especially if you’re watching the masthead fore and aft cameras (plus bow and prop cam) on central displays mounted in the saloon while you slip out of the dock! The Ice is a seriously impressive, contemporary yacht, one that in looks, performance and execution, won over many of the judges.

The first to launch is a highly customised project for a passionate sailing owner who covers long distances solo – he’d already sailed it 3,000 miles around the Med that autumn. It’s impressively stiff, sails handsomely and, thanks to a telescopic keel, points well. We matched single figure windspeeds, and clocked up to the high 9s in 12 knots wind.

Umberto Felci’s team spent 4,000 hours on the design, providing lots of space and light to the interior and a chillout zone in the semi raised saloon. This was easily the coolest looking yacht, with its aggressive reverse bow, chamfered gunwales and carbon T-top bimini, and all engineered and built to a high standard.

O'Ptasia 85m ( Listed for €89,999,000 )

The Greek-built and designed fleet screams sophistaction and style. With ample space for up to 23 guests O'Ptasia is ideal for large gatherings. Packed with plenty of spaces in which guests can relax including a wellness centre, enormous beach club and multiple sunbathing areas O'Ptasia makes for a perfect environment to detach from the stresses of the outside world.

Victorious 85m ( Listed for €125,000,000 )

With a range of 8,000nm this explorer yacht comes with a remarkable journey of her own already under her belt. After 14 years in the making Victorious was finally launched in 2021 after her owner Vural AK set up his own shipyard in Turkey in order to complete the long awaited construction there. Her interior was designed by London-based specialists H2 Yacht Design. 

Tranquility 91.5m ( Listed for €149,900,000 )

Oceanco's exploration vessel is an appealing buy for a variety of reasons. Her stunning Eastern-inspired interior, which features a variety of exotic materials from bamboo, wenge to gold leaf. With many ammenities dedicated to relaxation Tranquility certainly lives up to her name.

Luminosity 107.6m ( POA )  

One of two 100m+megayachts for sale with Burgess, Luminosity is the newer of the builds. Italian shipyard Benetti have produced a gorgeous design that bridges together style with modern technologies. Packed with incredible features such as her dance floor, private health club and sea level spa it seems Luminosity truly has something for every type of guest.

 IJE 108m ( Listed for €175,000,000 )

The largest yacht for sale with Burgess, IJE is Benneti's longest ever megayacht making her the flagship of their custom fleet. With stowage for two 12m tenders, open air dining for summer nights and a nightclub IJE takes into account the desires of all of her 22 guests. Incredible Footage of Whale 'Toppling' Boat in New England Is Legitimately Almost Unbelievable

The first time I ever went on a whale-watching expedition, I was amazed by how close the boats were able to get us to the feeding humpbacks. I had bought tickets for the trip expecting to see a few spouts and fins through a pair of binoculars, but no, they got right up close to the giant, breaching animals. I felt whale snot sprayed on my face.

Yet it’s good to remember that the large, whale-watching boats of the tourist trade are piloted by professionals who know exactly how to mange these experiences safely. For the private person, especially on a smaller boat, it does not pay to be in the path of a feeding whale, as these boaters recently discovered off the coast of New Hampshire.

Yesterday, a pair of boaters found themselves in literally deep water after a breaching whale toppled their boat and dumped them both into the ocean. Incredibly, this footage was captured by two teenagers who were on a similarly tiny craft only a few yards away. The video is pretty incredible—as is the fact that no one was injured after this shocking incident.

In the clip, you can see a breaching whale tip over a nearby boat, dumping two passengers into the water in Portsmouth Harbor.

An Accidental Collision

For Colin and Wyatt Yager, a simple fishing trip turned into a rescue mission after the nearby boat capsized. They said one man managed to jump overboard as the whale collided with the craft but that the other man was pushed under the boat as it came down.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.

One of the fishermen from the boat, Ryland Kenney, said that they had seen the whale feeding and were attempting to keep their distance, but apparently hadn’t gone far enough away.

“He went under, he disappeared for a few minutes, and then the next thing we know, he just popped right up on our transom,” he told a local news station .

Though the Coast Guard reported the incident to the appropriate wildlife authorities, it is not thought that the whale itself was injured by this collision. In fact, it’s possible that the giant creature never even noticed that the boat was there.

“If you look at the video really carefully, you can see that the whale has its mouth open,” Sara Morris of the University of New Hampshire Shoals Marine Laboratory told the press . “It looks like it’s lunge feeding and actually trying to catch fish.”

Yes, You Can Be Swallowed By a Whale

Though orcas attacking yachts have been much in the news lately, this incident appears to be entirely accidental, and it’s not the first of its kind, either. Many whales swim with their mouths opening when filter feeding or trying to catch fish, as this whale was doing. A pair of kayakers in California were capsized by a feeding humpback in 2020, and a diver in Cape Cod found himself actually inside the mouth of a filter feeding humpback in 2021 (he, too, survived to tell the tale).

From the whale’s perspective, these incidents are the equivalent of stepping on an anthill or swallowing a fly. They don’t mean to do it, but it can cause quite the commotion when they do.

RYE, N.H. (Gray News) – Incredible video captured off the coast of New Hampshire shows a whale breaching and landing on a boat.

According to WMTW , the incident happened Tuesday morning in Portsmouth Harbor off the coast of Rye, New Hampshire.

Despite the boat nearly capsizing, no one was hurt, WMTW reports.

Two brothers from Maine, ages 16 and 19, were fishing on a nearby boat when they captured the video of the whale breaching and hitting the other boat.

If you look closely, you can see at least one man get thrown off the boat and into the water.

The brothers, Colin and Wyatt Yager, said there were two men on the boat that was hit by the whale, but everyone involved was OK.

Whale capsizes boat off Portsmouth, New Hampshire in incredible video recorded by teen

RYE, N.H. -- An incredible video captured the moment a whale capsized a boat off the coast of New Hampshire Tuesday, sending two men flying into the ocean. Two teenagers nearby, one who recorded the video, came to their immediate rescue.

"You know the risk when you come out here, it's really unusual what happened to us this morning," Greg Paquette, who was thrown overboard, told WBZ-TV.

Paquette and his friend Ryland Kenney were fishing off the coast of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, when a humpback whale suddenly breached and knocked over their boat, which was about two miles off shore. 

"Thankfully it was slow enough that I could kind of swim my way out away from it before it completely capsized," Paquette said.

It took Kenney several frantic moments before he could even find Paquette in the water. 

"Not much time to react," Kenney said. "So I took a few steps off and basically did a Superman off the boat."

Two teens, Colin and Wyatt Yager, were fishing nearby when it happened. They said they saw the whale breach a few more times afterward.

Colin had his rod in one hand and a phone in the other. "It's just unreal. Completely unreal," he said. 

The whale leaped out of the water, cresting over Paquette and Kenney's boat. Paquette said the whale had a mouthful of fish and crashed down on the back of their boat, sending them flying. 

A Coast Guard crew from Station Portsmouth reported that the whale didn't appear to be hurt. The incident was reported to NOAA.

"We're in their way"

Fortunately, the men were only in the water for a minute when the two teens came to their rescue.

"We are grateful to the good Samaritans for taking such quick action to rescue these two individuals. Bravo Zulu!" the Coast Guard said on X . 

The men made it out safely, but their belongings didn't. Paquette lost his iPhone. The boat was salvaged, the Coast Guard said.

"That's the one thing we got to realize, that this is their home. This is their ocean, so we're in their way," Kenney said.

"It's not something I would care to repeat. But it is an amazing experience," Paquette told CBS New York .  

The Coast Guard asked boaters to report whale sightings to a local USCG command center.

Everyone escaped unharmed after a whale breached and landed on a boat in Portsmouth Harbor.

It happened Tuesday morning and brothers from Eliot, Maine, who were on a boat nearby, captured it on video about a half-mile off the coast of Rye, New Hampshire, just east of Odiorne Point State Park.

Colin, 16, and Wyatt Yager, 19, were enjoying their first fishing trip off the New Hampshire coast when the whale breached.

"I had my fishing rod right here, phone in my hand and just saw it go up," one of the brothers said afterwards. He said he was just lucky enough to be facing the right direction.

They say one of the men on the boat jumped off but the other didn't have time and got pushed under the boat when the whale came down. He was able to get to the surface quickly.

Despite the boat capsizing, no one was hurt and the brothers raced to help get everyone out of the water.

An official with the U.S. Coast Guard says the Northern New England command center received a MAYDAY signal twice.

A USCG crew from Portsmouth reported that the whale did not appear harmed by the encounter. Following standard procedure, the Center of Coastal Studies Marine Animal Hotline and NOAA have both been contacted.

A whale was mid-breach when it hit a small boat off New Hampshire, causing the vessel to capsize and hurl two fishermen overboard in a matter of seconds. 

Colin and Wyatt Yager, two teenage brothers from Maine on a neighboring vessel, took to social media Tuesday to share the footage, which has been reposted multiple times in the past few hours, according to reporting by Seacoastonline, part of the USA TODAY Network.

One video in particular has garnered over 4 million views and hundreds of comments since it was posted, with a caption that warns area residents to beware of a “pissed off whale” patrolling the waters of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

“Head on swivel if you’re out there,” the caption says. 

The teens "swiftly rescued" both fishermen after their boat capsized off Odiorne Point in Rye, New Hampshire, U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson Diolanda Caballero told Seacoastonline.

Wyatt Yager wasn't initially worried about the whale, telling Seacoastonline that all of the boats stayed along the edge of the school of fish so the whale could feed. But it got a little too close to the vessel, causing it to tip over.

"I was just in shock. Everyone else had the same reaction and tried to get over to those people," he said. "It was like, 'Oh shoot,' and then, 'We’ve got to go help these people.' All the boats dropped what they were doing to go over to help them."

Neither the men thrown into the ocean, nor the whale, were injured, Caballero said.

USA TODAY has reached out to the Coast Guard for comment.

'It's been an emotional day,' fisherman says

The Coast Guard caught wind of the capsized vessel Tuesday morning, which had been tipped over in Rye, a few miles northeast of Portsmouth, Seacoastonline reported. The teens were fishing for menhaden, also known as "pogies" a little after 7 a.m.

The whale crashed into Greg Paquette and Ryland Kenney's boat about an hour later after they spotted the aquatic mammal, immediately launching both men into "fight or flight mode" after they were thrown into the water, Seacoastonline reported.

“I heard a big crackle,” Kenney told the newspaper. "When that happened … the bow tipped up and I went to the left and as (the boat) was rolling over I kind of jumped off horizontally to avoid the whale and the boat.”

The last thing Paquette remembers seeing before being thrown into the water was the whale's head, which slammed down on the engine of the boat.

“Then I saw the whole stern become inundated with water and I thought, ‘Oh no. We’re going down. We’re going to sink now," Paquette told Seacoastonline. They managed to swim away from the swamped boat in a matter of seconds and became very tired after the initial "energy and adrenaline" wore off.

"It's been an emotional day," Paquette said.

The men stayed in the Yagers' boat for about 15 minutes, then the brothers dropped them off at a nearby friend's vessel before the Coast Guard arrived, according to Wyatt Yager. Paquette and Kenney were transported to Great Cove Boat Club in Eliot, Maine, after the breach, the two fishermen said.

Both men were in the water for less than two minutes before they were rescued, with 19-year-old Wyatt and 16-year-old Colin stepping in to help.  

"We’re glad they took such quick action," Paquette said. "They didn’t even think about it. We’re really grateful to both of them."

Internet reacts, exchanges memes

While the whale seemed to have made a pretty big splash, Colin Yager’s reaction to the “breach” has inadvertently caused the most attention. 

Multiple people have commented on Colin’s reaction, pointing out how quickly his instincts kicked in.

“Kid's like ‘I want to go home now,’" one user wrote. Another said, “That kid had the right idea lol turned around and was ready to book it.”

A user named Daisy Evans wrote that the “incredible scene” was the result of “unfortunate timing,” pointing to the way the whale was breaching under a school of baitfish next to the boat.

“You can actually see dozens of fish pouring out of its mouth as it impacts the boat. The whale was not attacking,” she wrote.

Following our earlier reporting of an update from the Afghanistan inquiry, we've now heard from Johnny Mercer himself.

Mr Mercer has been threatened with prison time if he does not hand over the name of former service people he spoke to about the actions of special forces in Afghanistan.

While the inquiry says they have received new information, Mr Mercer says he will not be handing over the names.

He said on social media: "As I have repeatedly stated, it remains entirely inappropriate to name those who confided in me without their consent. 

"For the avoidance of doubt: I have not and I will not. I will always assist the inquiry, outside of those parameters. 

"This process has placed an unacceptable strain on me and my family. I am no longer a public figure; I will not be commenting further."

We've had an update on Johnny Mercer, the former veteran's minister and MP, and the threat he was under to be jailed.

This was down to his refusal to comply with the wishes of a statutory inquiry - in this case the investigation into the UK's special forces in Afghanistan.

Mr Mercer had previously refused to name service people who had spoken to him.

A deadline for him to comply with the inquiry was today, and a spokesperson for the investigation has now said: "Mr Mercer has provided further information in response to the Section 21 notice and agreed to assist the Inquiry further.

"The inquiry team will be taking this forward.

"For the time being, the chair will not be taking further action in relation to the Section 21 Notice or making further comment."

The Home Office has announced that 46 criminals and immigration offenders have been deported to Vietnam and Timor-Leste.

It is the first charter flight to Timor-Leste from the UK for this purpose.

Timor-Leste is a country on the island of Timor, to the north of Australia.

The flight, which left on Wednesday, arrived in Timor-Leste today having stopped over in Vietnam.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: "Today’s flight shows the government is taking quick and decisive action to secure our borders and return those with no right to be here.

"We thank the governments of Vietnam and Timor-Leste for their co-operation, without which this could never have happened.

"Our strong diplomatic bonds with other countries have never been more crucial to our mission to bring order back into the asylum and immigration system, tackling irregular migration, and making sure the rules are properly respected and enforced."

Claire Coutinho, the shadow energy secretary, has been speaking to broadcasters in the past few minutes.

Asked who she would be supporting in the Tory leadership contest, she says: "So the thing that I'm interested in, we're now in opposition. We have to hold the Labour government to account. 

"And actually in the first three weeks we've seen that they've scrapped the Rwanda scheme. 

"They're already, obviously, trying to size up the British public for tax rises, and they ditched their promises to save people money on their energy bills. 

"So what I really want to see is someone who can hold the Labour government to account, to make sure that we're opposing effectively so that we can get the best outcomes for the British people."

Pushed on who she would endorse, Ms Coutinho did not provide any further clarity.

Away from politics, one of the main stories of the past 24 hours has been a video of a policeman stamping on someone's head at Manchester Airport.

The officer has been suspended, but the exact sequence of events which led to the incident are unclear.

Yvette Cooper, the home secretary, met with Manchester mayor Andy Burnham today and has now released a statement.

She said: "I share the deep concern surrounding the video and understand the widespread distress it will have caused. 

"I welcome the initiation of an independent investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct following a referral from Greater Manchester Police.

"It is extremely important that the IOPC are able to begin the investigation swiftly and conduct it thoroughly, examining all of the evidence, with clear and transparent ways for all those affected to be able to raise their concerns with the IOPC."

She says she is receiving updates from Greater Manchester Police as the situation develops.

One of the Labour government's first actions in government was to announce plans to reduce the starting point for prisoners to be released from 50% of time served to 40%.

This, they said, was due to a severe lack of spaces, with the blame for the "crisis" being laid at the feet of the last government.

While it was announced shortly after the election, the measure has only just been approved in the Commons by a ratio of 323 to 81.

As well as 314 Labour MPs, the motion was also backed by the seven recently suspended members of the Labour Party, who were kicked out of the parliamentary party for at least six months following their rebellion on the King's Speech.

Three Green Party MPs also voted with the government.

The motion was opposed by 78 Tory MPs - including all the main candidates running to replace Rishi Sunak, although the former PM himself did not vote.

A handful of DUP and Reform MPs also opposed it

 In his speech this morning, Starmer tried to hammer home Labour's message that they have been dealt a bad hand by the last Conservative government.

The prime minister said the Tories left a "rot of short-sightedness and self-service" for Labour to clear up.

Starmer said "every day" his is finding "more mess" that the Tories left behind.

"The hard graft of rebuilding this country has well and truly started, and it is vital that we begin immediately because the last government dropped the ball," he said.

"They left us the worst inheritance since the Second World War, and every day – every day – we’re finding more mess that they’ve left for us to clear up.

"The rot of short-sightedness and self-service that has weakened the foundations of our country."

Sir Keir Starmer also said he will not be telling people what to do with their boilers.

Asked if people should ditch their gas boilers and whether the Government would help them to do so, the prime ministersaid: "I’m not going to tell people what to do with their boilers.

"This is not about bearing down on individuals imposing a disproportionate burden on them. I don’t think that’s the way that we take anybody through a transition.

"So this is not about a government that’s going to go around the country saying ‘you can do this. You can’t do that.'"

He said the best approach is to "put in place the difficult decisions to make sure that renewable energy is a reliable source of energy and meet our mission which is to have clean power by 2030."

The best selling point for the general public is that "their bills will go down and they will go down not just for a short time, but for the long term", he said.

The Senedd will be recalled on August 6 to allow Eluned Morgan to become the next first minister of Wales, the Presiding Officer has said.

It follows outgoing First Minister Vaughan Gething requesting the Welsh Parliament be brought back.

The Llywydd (Presiding Officer) of the Senedd Elin Jones MS, said: “I received a request from the First Minister to recall the Senedd for Members to nominate the next person to take on the role of first minister of Wales.

"I have agreed to the request and I have written to Members of the Senedd to inform them of the recall."
