Hobie Cat Serial Number & Hull Number Identification

Serial numbers are hand-engraved using a vibration tool. To find your boat’s serial number:

  • On kayaks, serial numbers are located near the rear of the boat, on the underside on most models.
  • On sailboats, serial numbers are located near the rudder attachment point.

Newer boats have a rectangular, raised ridge around the serial number to make it easier to find. Rubbing a small amount of graphite or soil into the serial number engraving may make it easier to read. Each serial number follows one of the following patterns:

  • CCMB 1234A708
  • US- CCMB 1234A708

Broken into its component parts (US- |  CCM  | B1234 | A | 7 | 08) , a boat serial number conveys the following information:

  • US- or FR- or CN-:  Country of origin of the boat (Hobie boats are made in the United States, France, and China). The country of origin may not appear on older boats.
  • CCM  or  HCC  or  HCE :  Indicates the manufacturing company.  CCM  and  HCC  indicate boats manufactured by Hobie Cat Company ( USA ).  HCE  indicates boats manufactured by Hobie Cat Europe.
  • B1234:  Indicates the model and sequential serial number. In most cases, the model is indicated with a single letter, but sometimes two letters are used.
  • A:  Month of manufacture – A (January) through L (December).
  • 7:  Last digit of the year of manufacture.
  • 08:  Last two digits of the model year.

Providenciales Hobie Cat Sailing

location catamaran hobie cat

The name Hobie Cat comes from the combination of catamaran (two-hulled boat) and the name of the inventor of this small craft: Hobie Alter.

Hobie Cats have two plastic sealed hulls with a trampoline-style deck stretched between them. The usual mast height is about 20 feet (6 m), and the craft has a boomless main sail, which makes for safer sailing for novices. The average resort Hobie Cat can comfortably carry from one to four adults.

If your accommodation doesn’t offer Hobie Cats, a great way to access water sports equipment is to get a day pass at Club Med Resort .

Learn to Sail!

It’s quite easy to learn to sail a Hobie Cat and most beginners can learn the basics in an hour. Some resorts provide instruction free for guests, but it may be necessary to pay for this depending on where arrangements for the sailboat are made.

Because the hull is sealed, it’s not possible to sink a Hobie Cat that’s in proper condition. In the event that the sailboat flips, it can be righted in the water with little difficulty by the passengers.

Hobie Cats are an excellent way to introduce children to sailing, as they’re technically very easy to control and require very little strength to sail under tame conditions.

location catamaran hobie cat

Grace Bay is an ideal sailing location and is really the only place Hobie Cats are normally used in the country, as most of the main resorts are located on this section of the coastline. Long Bay on Providenciales also offers great conditions, but there are only a few privately owned Hobie Cats in the area.

Resorts and rental businesses usually don’t want the Hobie Cats sailed out of sight for safety reasons, so this often limits sailing to within about a one-mile radius of the launch point.

Although the boats are relatively small, Hobie Cat transport across land to different launch locations isn’t really available.

Step-by-Step: Mastering the Art of Sailing a Hobie Cat Boat

Introduction: Sailing offers a thrilling experience, a unique way to connect with nature, and an opportunity to test your skills on the water. Among the various types of sailboats available, Hobie Cat boats stand out for their versatility and exhilarating performance. Whether you’re new to sailing or looking to refine your technique, this step-by-step guide will help you master the art of sailing a Hobie Cat boat while enjoying every moment of it.

1. Getting Familiar with Your Hobie Cat Boat: Before venturing onto the open water, take some time to familiarize yourself with your Hobie Cat boat. Check for any damages or wear and tear that may need attention. Get acquainted with its parts, including the mast, boom, rudders, daggerboards, trampoline netting, and mainsail controls. Understanding how each component functions will be crucial for seamless sailing.

2. Rigging and Setting up: The first task involves rigging your boat properly. Begin by attaching the mast step securely to the mast base and sliding it into position at the front of the boat’s hulls while aligning it properly through all attachment points. Securely fasten all stays and shrouds while checking for any kinks or tangles in the lines.

Next comes adding sails – attach one side of each sail to their respective halyards before raising them cautiously. Once raised completely, adjust tension on both sides evenly until they appear taut yet not overly strained.

3. Safety Essentials: Sailing can be an awe-inspiring experience; however safety should never be overlooked when setting off onto open waters. Ensure that all crew members are equipped with appropriate personal flotation devices (PFDs) or life jackets suitable for sailing conditions.

Additionally, make sure you have essential safety equipment such as a throwable floatation device, signaling devices, a first-aid kit, and a whistle. Familiarize yourself with local boating regulations and be aware of potential hazards such as strong currents, submerged rocks, or shallow waters.

4. Launching your Hobie Cat: With all necessary safety preparations completed, it’s time to launch your Hobie Cat boat! Choose a launching area free of obstacles and gently release the boat into the water, ensuring it remains stabilized throughout the process. Securely tie your boat to the dock or shore before boarding to avoid drifting away unexpectedly.

5. Mastering Sail Trim: Sail trim plays a pivotal role in sailing performance and efficiency. Start by adjusting the mainsail controls – cunningham, outhaul, and boom vang – based on wind conditions. Experimenting with different settings will allow you to find the sweet spot for maximum speed and control.

To achieve optimal sail shape, apply proper tension on both sides of each sail using the jib sheet and main sheet. As conditions change during your journey, make minor adjustments to maintain ideal trim for best results.

6. Maneuvering Techniques: Once you’re comfortably sailing along, it’s time to master some essential maneuvers to navigate different scenarios effectively:

a) Tacking: Practice altering your course by turning through the wind confidently while bringing one hull across while keeping constant control on rudder movement.

b) Jibing: Master smoothly switching direction as you pass downwind by moving both sails simultaneously while maintaining balanced weight distribution between both hulls.

c) Gybing: When sailing at an angle downwind, skillfully shift from one gybe angle to another by balancing weight distribution and controlling sail position accordingly.

7. Overcoming Challenges: Sailing comes with its fair share of challenges; however preparedness is key when facing unexpected difficulties. Be alert for sudden gusts or shifts in wind direction that may require quick response time in avoiding capsizing or losing control.

Furthermore, know how to react in case of a man overboard situation, practicing the necessary actions to retrieve someone safely while minimizing risk for all involved parties.

Conclusion: Sailing a Hobie Cat boat is an art that requires practice, patience, and a deep understanding of wind dynamics. By following this step-by-step guide, you’ll gradually develop the skills needed to master your boat’s performance on the water. With each outing, your confidence will grow alongside your ability to adapt and navigate effectively. So grab your Hobie Cat and embark on an exciting journey towards becoming a skilled sailor!

It certainly does look and sound like an abscess but only your vet can say for sure.  With the squinty eye, though, I wonder if it isn't a tooth problem, even though you said his teeth look okay. Make sure your vet knows your concerns and hopefully they won't wait until Tuesday to check him out.  Is there any way to contact them over the holiday?  Perhaps there is some pre-care such as discontinuing food after this evening that you can do, so that they can sedate him tomorrow and get him looked over.

I had some clindamycin left over from when he was licking himself raw from the food allergy---MASSIVE difference! I am still taking him tomorrow, but theres no more swelling and he looks fine. He was cuddling up close to me and he has other sores around his face...near his mouth and up by his ear. I will still update after tomorrow but..that antibiotic that I've given has helped a lot. Thanks sooo much for the responses. I feel more at ease!
