A Closer Look at the $400 Million Superyacht Streets of Monaco

The country of Monaco has long been an isle of luxury and extreme pleasure. It's a premier destination for vacationers who prefer to take their holidays in grand style, and for the very rich and famous with a penchant for gambling, entertainment, and a hearty nightlife. A fair share of the jet-setting crowd enjoy spending at least a portion of their holidays on the streets of Monaco and one billionaire was so inspired that he ordered the commission of a superyacht to capture the opulence and extravagance of the locale in a recreation that is named for the country in the famed $400 million Streets of Monaco. To fully appreciate the splendor of this floating paradise, we take a closer look at this artistic and expensive rendition.

History of the superyacht Streets of Monaco

In 2015, the Streets of Monaco superyacht was just a concept. When news of its commission was revealed they were assumed to be rumors of wishful thinking, much like a fantasy that seemed unlikely to ever be realized. For a couple of years, there was the talk of a bold concept that would create a replica of many of the most famous landmarks found in the country of Monaco, captured on a large floating vessel, intended for the enjoyment of billionaires fond of locales such as the Hotel de Paris, La Rascasse, the Monte Carlo Casino, Cafe de Paris, Loews Hotel, and others. It was further rumored that the superyacht would cost an astronomical $1.1 billion to construct, but this, was an unsubstantiated rumor because when the ship was finally completed, much to the surprise of yachting enthusiasts who saw it as a pipe dream, the actual cost would be closer to $400 million.

Who's commissioning the Streets of Monaco?

To lend credence to the rumors, we did a fair amount of research and learned that this yacht doesn't actually exist, well, not yet anyway. The Island Design yacht company of the United Kingdom presented the blueprint for the yacht back in 2011. The design team from Island Design remarked that this vessel would be more like a floating city than it would a yacht. The billionaire backing the building of the Streets of Monaco is none other than Russian magnate Roman Abramovich, owner of The Eclipse yacht, according to this article .

The proposed specifications and amenities

Construction of the Streets of Monaco? couldn't confirm one way or another if it has begun but we do have information about the proposed specifications and at least some of the amenities. The ship is designed to be 500 feet in length with a replica of the streets found in Monaco with miniature replications of popular landmarks n Monaco including the Hotel de Paris, tennis courts and swimming pools. The Atrium will link the main living areas together including a network of seven guest suites with individual bedrooms, balconies, dressing rooms, bathrooms, and reception areas. The capacity of the ship will be 70 crew members for daily maintenance and operation and 16 guests. In addition, there will be a tunnel complex extending around the deck for the Monaco Grand Prix go-kart track. The plans also include an area for storing smaller yachts for VIP travel to and from the main ship.

The Streets of Monaco will also feature several casinos on board along with luxury resorts if you can picture this on board a yacht. Jacuzzi bars, a cinema, libraries, helipads, a submarine, underwater restaurants, and waterfalls are also included in the plans. There will also be recreations of a beach-inspired pool, cafe bars, barbecue facilities and interior opulence the likes of which this world has not yet seen, according to LuxeHabitat. There is also slated to be a basketball court, a dance hall, a full spa and hair salon and this is just what is known about the initial plans.

Will the fantasy ever be brought to life?

There has been a lot of speculation over the past eight years about the credibility of this design and as to whether or not it is even feasible. The Island Design company who currently holds the blueprints believe wholeheartedly that it is possible. The only element that is missing is a billionaire that is willing to commission the construction. There have been no concrete announcements about whether or not Abramovich has signed off on the construction, and according to the director of Yacht Island Design, Scott, Poxon, this requirement has yet to be satisfied.

Final thoughts

The Streets of Monaco is a lovely dream which one day may become a reality, but as of now, it's locked away in the minds of the designers in a set of blueprints waiting for someone to step up to the plate with the necessary funding to commission the building of this $400 million dream yacht. One thing is for certain, it would be the biggest and most expensive yacht on the ocean, but it could possibly be considered a floating city, given the amenities and onboard operations which would give it the full functionality of a city floating on the ocean. Resorts, hotels, casinos, restaurants, a Grand Prix in a miniature version, transportation via submarine, helicopter or yacht, and we're assuming that the communications technology would also be quite advanced. It's nice to dream but this is one dream that could possibly become a reality in the near future.

Introducing a new era in luxury yachting, the themed yacht.

Yacht Island Design has been formed by a creative team who are driven by a passion to deliver something different. That difference is themed yachts, the first of which is called The Streets of Monaco superyacht design. The art of producing a themed yacht is to seamlessly weave a story into every element of the design and is achieved via extensive consultation with the client during the initial phases of the design process. This focus allows the creation of a truly unique environment from the overall exterior shape down to the smallest interior detail. Yacht Island Design’s attention to detail is shown in the first proposal, a 155m SWATH vessel that takes the principality of Monaco to the ocean.

155m SWATH ‘The Streets of Monaco’ superyacht by Yacht Island Design Exterior render and zoning diagram

Yacht Island Design has selected the SWATH platform as its prime focus. Not only does this platform offer the best seakeeping ability but the exceptionally wide beam for its length gives the maximum flexibility to achieve best utilisation of space. It also allows for the exploration of bold and daring design ideas without the restrictions of a conventional hull shape. Yacht Island Design are in collaboration with BMT Nigel Gee on several SWATH proposals. As the world’s leading independent provider of naval architecture and engineering to the large yacht industry they bring significant experience in the naval architecture of SWATH vessels.

In order to showcase its capabilities, Yacht Island Design has set about developing several concept proposals. The first of these is ‘The Streets of Monaco’. This is a 155m SWATH yacht built predominantly in steel with the use of aluminium in the upper superstructure. With a maximum speed of 15 knots she transports her 70 crew and 16 guests using diesel electric propulsion. The design theme called for a unique yacht that reflected the style and sophistication of the principality and centres around three main communal areas, ‘The Streets of Monaco’, ‘The Oasis’ and ‘The Grand Atrium’.

‘The Streets of Monaco’ is the focal point of our story and the anchor for the themes that run throughout the yacht, revolving around a recreation of the famous  Monao Grand Prix race circuit. This fully functional kart circuit sets the stage for other famous locations seen on a lap of the principality. The Casino, Hotel de Paris, Cafe de Paris, La Rascasse, and of course the famous Loews hotel and tunnel complex are all featured and house many of the major interior communal spaces. There are four major areas to the external deck space. On the upper deck is ‘Casino Square’ featuring a large glass bottomed fountain situated in a tranquil garden setting. Heading past the Casino you arrive on the roof of the ‘Loews hotel’ which extends to the bow. This area features a small swimming pool, large Spa Pool and expansive sun decks with BBQ facilities. Moving aft we arrive at the main swimming pool which represents the Port Hercule harbour with a maximum depth of 3m incorporating a swim-in Spa Pool/bar. Continuing to the stern we pass into an area focussed on sports. The multi-use court can be configured to a variety of activities including tennis and basketball. Completing this floating city is the Prince’s Palace which as you would expect, houses the owners private apartment in a prime location on the port bow.

155m SWATH ‘The Streets of Monaco’ superyacht by Yacht Island Design The Oasis render

`The Oasis’, on the The Streets of Monaco superyacht design located aft, acts as the main boarding point for the yacht, an expansive area modelled on the gardens just outside the  Monaco Casino. On entering the Oasis, attention is immediately drawn to the central waterfall feature consisting of upper level pools cascading down into the lower pool and Spa Pool. Radiating from the pool are numerous shrub lined pathways and secluded seating areas. Large exterior windows surround the entire aft section of the oasis, extending to the full double deck height ceiling allowing natural light to flood the space. Located forward on the lower level is the Spa, with manicure and hair salon, private massage suites, sauna/steam rooms and a large relaxation lounge featuring a spa pool with bar. To either side of the spa entrance are located grand marble staircases and elevator access to the mezzanine, with a cafe bar and magnificent views of the gardens below. Forward of the Cafe Bar are large porthole windows offering unique under water views into the main external swimming pool. Opposite this feature lies access to the fully equipped Gym which boasts uninterrupted views over the ocean. Nestled between the feature portholes and the Gym is an art lined hallway which acts as the entranceway to `The Grand Atrium’.

155m SWATH ‘The Streets of Monaco’ superyacht by Yacht Island Design Owners Apartment - Living Room

`The Grand Atrium’ is the central hub of the yacht, linking the upper and lower living areas. At its centre is a large, ornate spiral staircase which surrounds a waterfall feature that is supplied by the glass bottomed fountain from the garden area above. A small cafe/bar area ensures this feature can be enjoyed while relaxing in comfort. The seven guest suites are located off of the lower atrium level and vary in size, from the more modest 135 m2 suite to the grand 356 m2 VIP suites. All include their own reception room, bathroom, dressing room, bedroom and balcony. The VIP suites have the added luxury of a private office. On the same level and located centrally to the guest suites are the Library, Communal Office, Communal Balcony and Cinema. The upper level of the Atrium leads to the main entertainment areas and the Owners suite. The entertainment areas comprise the Main Saloon with separate Havana room and adjoining wine cellar, the Dining Room, Casino and Dance Hall. At the farthest end of the Atrium lies the Owners Apartment. Connected to all decks via a private lift and spread over 3 floors, it covers a total 1460m2 of floor space. As well as the usual lounge with a feature fire place and double height ceiling, office, bedroom, bathroom, his/hers dressing rooms, the apartment also benefits from a listening room, private courtyard, sunroom, numerous balconies and private sundeck with a Spa Pool/swimming pool.

Other Key features

Two large tender garages to store all manner of launches, offshore power boats, jet skis etc. Dive dock and Submarine, deployed from one of the submerged hulls. Multi configurable sports court sized to championship tennis regulations also doubles as a Heli-Pad. Ample crew quarters including a gym and private sun terrace. Crew can access all areas of the yacht via a network of corridors allowing for maximum guest privacy. Sea level ‘Beach’ decks situated aft in both struts.

What’s next for Yacht Island Design?

Yacht Island Design’s second proposal is an 85m yacht based around a ‘Pacific Island’ theme, a notable departure from the architectural feel of the ‘Monaco’ design with a flowing organic shape and natural themed features. This concept illustration is a small teaser of what is to follow.

Yacht Island Design Unveils 'Streets of Monaco' Project

Monaco Yacht 140

Yacht Island  Design has released plans for a £244 million gargantuan yacht that replicates the streets of Monaco. Christened 'The Streets Of Monaco', the super ship mimics the key landmarks of the wealthy city-state, including the famous Hotel de Paris, Prince's Palace, Loews Hotel, Port Hercule and La Rascasse. It also boasts a go kart race track that replicates the famous Grand Prix track, as well as a helipad, mini submarine, speedboats, jet skis, swimming pools and Jacuzzis.

Rob McPherson, one of the founders of the project, said: 'The theme is based around the Mediterranean principality with the primary focus being the famous grand prix circuit. 'The idea was to recreate the circuit as a fully-functional kart track able to accommodate three karts side-by-side to allow for plenty of overtaking. By sizing the track in this way it has driven the overall dimensions of the yacht and the placement of the famous landmarks.

FOR those who want Monaco wherever they go, a super ship designed to mimic the billionaires' playground needs an owner, and is less than a third of its original asking price.

Ideally it would suit a buyer with buckets of cash and no taste.

The floating palace will set them back $400 million - just a drop in the ocean from its $1.3 billion price tag when the concept was first spruiked three years ago.

The "hyper yacht" called the Streets of Monaco is on the drawing board of UK-based ship designers Yacht Island Design. Whether it will ever get off that drawing board and into the ocean is yet to be seen. But the founders are hopeful.

The ship is aimed at the billionaire who is unable to get enough of the real Monaco.

Aimed at the billionaire who is unable to get enough of being moored off the real Monaco the the 155-metre vessel offers all a bored tax exile or Lotto winner could ever need.

Toys include a go-cart track that replicates the F1 circuit, a helipad, mini-submarine, speedboats, jet skis, swimming pools, tennis courts and cinema.

The interior of the ship is also designed to invoke the luxurious trappings of Monaco.

The Streets of Monaco's mock facade "reflects the style and sophistication of the Mediterranean principality", according to the marketing spiel.

They include the Hotel de Paris, Prince's Palace, Loews Hotel, Port Hercule and La Rascasse.

The ship would include a helipad, mini submarine, speedboats, jet skis and swimming pools and jacuzzis.

Rob McPherson, one of the founders of the project, said the idea for the ship was sparked by car racing and "developed into something more innovative".

"The desire to do something new and interesting as well as a significant interest in storytelling through architecture and environment were the driving forces," Mr McPherson said.

The real thing: An aerial view of a harbour in Monaco.

It remains a mystery how many of these super ships actually get commissioned, or who buys them, but Mr McPherson said Yacht Island Design is "actively looking for clients either private or commercial".

He said the $4000 million price tag was reasonable.

"The building cost is incredibly difficult to assess without a fully defined specification, but $400 million would be a sensible starting point, escalating from there," Mr McPherson.

He added: "We have had a significant amount of interest from the general public wanting to take cruises and a number of enquiries for potential commercial applications."

The family behind “Australia’s youngest homeowner” reveal how the eight-year-old secured a four-bedroom house while still in primary school.

The ex-Melbourne Rebels player is now looking to sell his beloved home in Melbourne’s inner west as he has relocated to Sydney. See what he wants for it.

A rare single-storey Troppo home has hit the Top End market with all the character you’d expect of the design, including an indoor-outdoor vibe courtesy of a central breezeway running through the house.

UK-based design company Yacht Island Design has proposed a new innovative superyacht named Streets of Monaco, inspired by a small section of the Principality of Monaco.

The new 155m Streets of Monaco yacht has been designed by Yacht Island Design, in association with UK-based naval architectural firm BMT Nigel Gee. Currently in the design stage, it is conceived as a floating island featuring its own fully functional go kart circuit. The entire design is a unique recreation of a small section of the Principality of Monaco.

The themed yacht comes complete with casino and race track. The four-deck yacht will feature innumerable amenities such as a main swimming pool with swim-in Jacuzzi/bar and the Casino Square in the upper deck; multi-purpose courtyard, which also doubles as a helipad; open sundecks and BBQ facilities aboard the yacht; and other communal areas named ‘The Oasis’ and ‘The Grand Atrium.’

The Oasis, the main boarding point that features a central waterfall, has been designed by seeking inspiration from the gardens outside the Monaco Casino. The lower level of ‘Streets of Monaco’ houses a spa with manicure and hair salon, sauna/steam rooms, a relaxation lounge with a spa pool and a bar, and a gym and café bar with underwater views.

The Grand Atrium is designed to link the upper and lower living areas of the yacht. Seven guest suites, library, communal office, communal balcony and cinema are housed in the lower level atrium. The upper atrium leads to the entertainment area and the owner’s suite. The atrium is also equipped with seven guest suites with their own reception room, bathroom, dressing room, bedroom and balcony.

A Look at Streets of Monaco, the World's Most Absurd Yacht

who owns the streets of monaco yacht

The world of megayachts is hardly known for its subtlety, but this proposed floating city makes even Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich's 557-foot Eclipse look downright sensible. Modeled after the glamorous Mediterranean city-state of Monaco, the Streets of Monaco features exhaustive replicas of landmarks like the Monte Carlo Casino, the Hotel de Paris, La Rascasse, and even a beach-like swimming pool. Estimated to cost of more than $1B to construct, this floating mini-city is the brainchild of the Yacht Island Design, an as-yet-untested firm fond of attention-grabbing designs that don't make it past the design stage. Still, plenty of thought has gone into this extravagant farce.

who owns the streets of monaco yacht

? The plans, while well publicized, don't appear to be very exact (above), just vague sections on each deck of the none-too-streamlined ship. That might be because, with the way things are going in yacht design lately, the designs might very well be obsolete before this billion-dollar extravagance is finally constructed.

Mega Yachts: Streets of Monaco

who owns the streets of monaco yacht

For the super-rich it would combine the delights of Monaco with untrammelled access to the ports of the world – as well as bragging rights as to owning the world’s most expensive personal yacht.

British designers have produced plans for a floating replica of the principality named Streets Of Monaco which features scaled-down versions of its famous landmarks including the Monte Carlo racetrack.

The 500ft-long boat – expected to cost up to £700million – also boasts miniatures of the famed Monte Carlo Casino, Hotel de Paris, Cafe de Paris, La Rascasse, the Loews Hotel as well as swimming pools and tennis courts.

It even has a platform that holds smaller yachts in case prospective owners need something a little nippier to get around in.

The most mind-bending feature is the Monaco Grand Prix-inspired go-kart track complete with tunnel complex which runs around the deck.

The ship is the brainchild of fledgling Derbyshire-based Yacht Island Design.

Company director Rob McPherson said: ‘The design theme called for a unique yacht that reflected the style and sophistication of the principality.

‘We want to create a truly unique environment that could take the principality of Monaco to the ocean.’

But for the designers the centerpiece of the incredible ship is The Atrium, which links the upper and lower living areas.

The Atrium has seven guest suites which all include their own reception room, bathroom, dressing room, bedroom and balcony.

In total, Streets of Monaco’ would be capable of housing 16 guests and 70 crew and would cost the owner tens of millions to run each year.

And the billionaire owner would get the benefit of the main apartment which is spread over three floors, sprawling an amazing 4,800sq ft – the size of a luxury penthouse.

The four-deck yacht will also have BBQ facilities dotted around the deck as well as a mini waterfall and cafe bar with underwater views.

While only at a design stage, The Streets Of Monaco would likely exceed the £665 million price-tag rumored to be paid by Roman Abramovich for his ‘Eclipse’ yacht to become the world’s most expensive personal boat.

At 500ft, The Streets of Monaco is 25ft shorter than the Chelsea owner’s super-yacht but Abramovich would undoubtedly be envious of the Monaco’s fully functional kart circuit.

Now that the design has been completed, the only question remaining for Yacht Island Design is whether they can find a billionaire with enough spare change to turn it into a reality.

The New Concept in Luxury Yachting: The Themed Yacht

  • By Christopher White
  • Updated: May 10, 2011

who owns the streets of monaco yacht

If you think that a Carnival Cruise Lines ship is a floating city, just wait until you see this. The creative team at Yacht Island Design has put forth its first proposal: the Principality of Monaco, a SWATH design will provide the beam and sea keeping ability needed to keep this nautical municipality afloat.

Multiple decks contain pools, spas, waterfalls, tennis courts, a lavish private master suite (located in the Prince’s Palace on the port bow) and accommodations for 16 guests and — brace yourself — 70 crew that the company estimates it will take to keep Monaco cruising along at 15 knots. The focal point of the design is “The Streets of Monaco,” which will feature re-creations of the Monaco Grand Prix race circuit (complete with go-carts for racing), the Hotel de Paris, the Casino, Café de Paris and the Lowes Hotel.

Streets of Monaco Yacht pictures: Replica city and race-track on the high seas

With a prohibitive price of $1.1 billion the Streets of Monaco Yacht, named after the famous principality and millionaire’s playground, is a lesson in extravagance and exclusivity. Currently the largest and most expensive personal boat (Eclipse) belongs to Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, however the yacht, currently in its initial design phase, would no doubt make even the Russian a tad envious. Perhaps with good reason, as the yacht will feature miniatures and scaled down versions of the famous Monte Carlo Casino, Hotel de Paris, Cafe de Paris, La Racasse, the Loews Hotel and last but certainly not least, the owner of the yacht will have access to the main apartment which encompasses and astounding 4,800 square feet and is spread over three floors. The yacht even features a go-kart race track inspired by The Monaco Grand Prix. What good is being out in the ocean if there isn’t a beach? No need to worry as the vessel features a beach as well as multiple swimming pools and tennis courts.

As if the cost of purchasing the yacht wasn’t nearly enough, and believe me it is, the estimated cost of running the ship could total tens of millions a year. The only question that remains now is, who is going to buy it?

Superyacht Design Perfectly Recreates the Streets of Monaco

' src=

Perhaps the best part of design is the freedom it gives people to set sail on new concepts. That’s exactly what British firm Yacht Island Design did with the design for a new superyacht that recreates the major attractions in Monaco, including the Monte Carlo Casino and the Grand Prix course.

Shot of the luxurious new

The team began with a big idea and funneled it down to reality. Company director Rob McPherson explains: “The design theme called for a unique yacht that reflected the style and sophistication of the principality. We want[ed] to create a truly unique environment that could take the principality of Monaco to the ocean.”

For size and layout, they began with one of the most recognizable attractions in Monaco, the Grand Prix course, and modeled it to scale in hopes making it an onboard go-kart track capable of supporting three go-karts side by side. With the track hammered out, the designers turned their attention to replicas of the Monte Carlo Casino, Hotel de Paris, Prince’s Palace, Loews Hotel, Port Hercules, and La Rascasse.

Inside the luxurious new

The yacht is designed for the comfort of 16 guests in eight rooms, including seven guest suites that each include their own reception room, bathroom, dressing room, bedroom, and balcony. The larger VIP suites have the added luxury of a private office .

In a separate wing, the owner’s apartment covers three floors and 1460 square meters. It’s made up of multiple balconies, an office, bedroom, bathroom, his/hers dressing rooms, private courtyard, sunroom, and private sundeck complete with a jacuzzi and swimming pool. The apartment also benefits from a listening room and sitting lounge with fireplace. Even better, a private lift provides access to all three decks here.

Inside the luxurious new

A yacht this size (500 feet) is meant to be shared with friends, of course, so the designers also made sure to include public areas all throughout, including pools, cafés, a library, and a spa complete with a manicure and hair salon, private massage suites, sauna/steam rooms, and a large relaxation lounge featuring an accompanying spa pool and bar. “The Oasis” is located near the ship’s boarding area, where guests are greeted by a replica of the gardens right outside the Monaco Casino. This area also boasts a waterfall that spills over from the upper pools into the lower ones, as well as multiple landscaped paths and private sitting areas.

Get your game on with a battle at the yacht’s tennis courts, or hit the basketball court that doubles as a helipad for those guests that might have to fly inland for meetings. If helicopters aren’t so much your thing, you could always jump into the yacht’s submarine for an underwater adventure, or park a smaller yacht in the designated parking space and use it as your commuter vessel.

Inside the luxurious new

Obviously a luxury superyacht designed to replicate the city of Monaco isn’t for everyone —especially if you can’t cover the estimated $1 billion price tag. However, if money is no concern to you, you stand to own one of the most expensive — and likely the most original — boats in the world.

Inside £1bn superyacht ‘Streets of Monaco’ – with replica Grand Prix track, casino & tennis court

YOU could be forgiven for thinking a city's streets must stay firmly on the ground.

But a £1bn superyacht is throwing that idea out the window with a replica Monaco Grand Prix track on its deck.

The Streets of Monaco is a £1bn superyacht which is being designed to be a floating replica of the city

The Streets of Monaco is a luxury yacht inspired by the lavish city that, while still in the design phase, will feature everything you'd expect from a visit to the French city-state, including casinos and swimming pools.

Designed by Yacht Island Design , the superyacht is centred around its replica of the famous Grand Prix circuit which will be a functioning go-kart track where guests can race against each other.

The 152m yacht will have a special owner's apartment and seven guest suites and can sleep up to 16 guests and 70 crew.

The suites are all on the lower level of the central atrium and each have their own reception room, bathroom, dressing room, bedroom and balcony - with the VIP suites also featuring a private office.

Also in the atrium is the owner's apartment which is spread over three floors. In addition to all the features in the guest suites, the owner's apartment also has a private courtyard, sunroom and private sundeck with a jacuzzi and swimming pool.

The main boarding point of the yacht is The Oasis - a double-height foyer modelled on the gardens just outside the Monaco Casino.

Living up to its name, The Oasis features multi-level pools which cascade from one to another, a jacuzzi and seating among plants, to give guests a peaceful place to relax while onboard.

Additionally, the yacht includes a helicopter pad, tennis court, spa, gym, manicure and hair salon, sauna and steam rooms, private massage suites, cinema and library.

A spokesperson for the design company said: "The theme is based around the Mediterranean principality with the primary focus being the famous grand prix circuit.

"The idea was to recreate the circuit as a fully functional kart track, able to accommodate three karts side by side to allow for plenty of overtaking.

"By sizing the track in this way it has driven the overall dimensions of the yacht and the placement of the famous landmarks.

"The Monaco story extends beyond this exterior architecture and into the interior spaces giving a seamless transition as guests move between the various areas of the yacht."

The $1billion luxury yacht: The Streets of Monaco

You can’t put a price on the ineffable elegance of monaco, but you can, it seems, put one on its streets floating out in the ocean on a luxury yacht. .

The $1 billion Streets of Monaco is a concept, luxury yacht by Yacht Island Design  that while not yet complete, will eventually feature a go-kart track, casinos, a replica of the Monaco Grand Prix track, tennis courts, swimming pools and a bar.

SOM2

The 152-metre luxury yacht, as its name suggests, will be a floating replica of the city of Monaco. The ‘streets’ detail reflects a particular part of the Monte Carlo landscape. Naturally, then, the yacht will also feature the kind of decadence and indulgence that Monte Carlo is prized for.

The luxury yacht will feature helicopter and submarine facilities, a mini waterfall and underwater views for the onboard cafe and bar. The luxury yacht’s stunningly designed centrepiece, the Atrium, will also be the scene of the main living quarters of its lucky billionaire owner, and will spread over three floors and 445 square-metres. Other accommodation on board will include seven guest suites each featuring a reception room, multiple bathrooms and balconies.

SOM3

In the design firm’s own words, “We like to base our designs upon innovative floating platforms. It frees us to explore bold and daring ideas which challenge the accepted norms within the yachting industry. No longer are we bound by the restrictions of a conventional hull shape. This unleashes creative flair and individualism for our clients as well as us!”

SOM1

Another centrepiece of the luxury yacht is The Oasis. The primary boarding point for the vessel, this royal space is modelled on the magnificent gardens of the Monaco Casino . With multi-level pools which cascade from one to another, as well as a peaceful Jacuzzi, this section of the ship is punctuated by the (comparably) simple garden seating areas within which you might just need to sit quietly for moment and take it all in.

There is, of course, a lot to take in.

Other levels of the luxury yacht will include a spa, a manicure and hair salon, private massage suites, sauna and steam rooms and a large relaxation lounge featuring a spa pool with bar. These features will be framed by two marble staircases and elevator access leading to a grand mezzanine.

This £1 billion super yacht has a Grand Prix circuit you can race go-karts on

This is the floating city of Monaco, a £1 billion super yacht.

Called the ‘Streets of Monaco’, it’s a replica of everything Monaco is famous for including the Grand Prix track, casino, helipads and even a tennis court.

The brainchild of Yacht Island Design, the vessel is planned around its replica of the famous Grand Prix circuit.

The track, which is built on the deck of the yacht, isn’t just for looks either.

Guests will be able to race each other in go-karts around it.

CHECK THIS OUT!

At the centre of the yacht is The Oasis.

It’s a two-story level foyer replicating the gardens outside the famous Monaco Casino.

Designs show the yacht with jacuzzis and multiple pools, some of which actually cascade from one to another.

Guests will never be bored either because the Streets of Monaco has pretty much everything you can find in the actual city.

It has a tennis court, spas, gym, nail salon, hairdresser, sauna, and private massage suits.

It also has a cinema and library for guests who want a bit of downtime during their trip.

A Yacht Island Design spokesperson said the famous Grand Prix circuit was at the heart of the design.

“The idea was to recreate the circuit as a fully functional kart track, able to accommodate three karts side by side to allow for plenty of overtaking,” they said.

“By sizing the track in this way it has driven the overall dimensions of the yacht and the placement of the famous landmarks.

“The Monaco story extends beyond this exterior architecture and into the interior spaces giving a seamless transition as guests move between the various areas of the yacht.”

While these images show some early concept designs and artist impressions, the company is working towards making the Streets of Monaco a reality.

And if it does, it will undoubtedly be one of the most unique super yachts the world has ever seen.

a luxury superyacht that resembles the Streets of Monaco

Yacht Island Design Streets of Monaco img1 544px

this island-like themed yacht would harness the advantages that comes from a SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) platform such as minimized motions from the open sea. the boat is split into four external deck spaces with the upper level featuring the main swimming pool that has a swim-in jacuzzi/bar and the Casino Square, with a glass-bottomed fountain in a tranquil garden setting. a multipurpose courtyard is found at the stern of the boat which also doubles as a helipad. expansive sun decks and BBQ facilities are also designed into this stunning vessel.

this superyacht will have a host of other amenities which include spa with manicure and hair salon, sauna/steam rooms, a relaxation lounge with a spa pool/bar, a gym and cafe bar with an underwater view of the main swimming pool, a cinema and a library. there are seven guest suites located off the lower atrium and this vessel is able to accommodate 16 guests and 70 crew. i’d imagine the (potential) owner to be someone who is super rich and thus, his or her suite will be nothing less than a private apartment located in the Prince’s Palace on the port bow of the upper deck.

did i mention that it has a sea level ‘beach’ decks and also comes with a dive dock and a submarine as well? i wonder what’s the purpose of the submarine? to tour the wonderful underwater world or for a more sinister purpose? powering this magnificent yacht would be diesel-electric hybrid which is expected to give it a top speed of 15 knots. there are more facilities than we could detail here but in a nutshell, you would find (almost) everything you’d expect the rich and famous would fancy or use on the The Streets of Monaco luxury superyacht.

how much? it’s a concept and in any case, this one-off design is almost certainly reserved for the super rich. if you own a couple of oil wells, you probably would qualify to get one. Yacht Island Design has a second creation which will be a smaller 85-meter yacht, basing around a Pacific Island theme. wow.

Joining the Gucci-loafer set for a glimpse of superyacht life in Monaco

Sanctions imposed on russian oligarchs don’t seem to have hurt the big-flashy-boat industry.

who owns the streets of monaco yacht

MONTE CARLO — Welcome aboard at the Monaco Yacht Show, where the world’s superyachts are bought and sold. Warning: If you find the excesses of the 0.01 percent triggering, avert your eyes.

The scene here is like a parking lot crammed with water toys that cost a cool collective $4.3 billion.

The technical term for the size of these pleasure craft is “enormous.” The top class — the megayachts — are now 100 meters in length — that’s 328 feet, more than a football field from goal line to goal line. There are dozens of these boats on order.

There’s also talk of gigayachts to come. Asked what a giga might be, a top broker joked: “That would be a repurposed aircraft carrier.”

Have one helipad? Sad. Why not have two?

Jet Skis? The new must-have toy is a submersible.

There are onboard elevators, naturally, to get between the four, five and six decks. Surfaces are clad in lost forests of teak and mahogany with gleaming stainless steel accents. The deckhands are constantly polishing, rubbing, squeegeeing.

You might think superyacht sales would be super down, what with global inflation, a real estate bust in China, threats of recession, trench warfare in Europe and — dare we say it here? — a planetary climate crisis. Surprise. You would be wrong.

Italy impounds $700 million megayacht linked to Putin

Russian oligarchs have traditionally been big buyers of showy yachts, accounting for an estimated 10 percent of sales. Sanctions and the U.S. Justice Department’s Task Force KleptoCapture have taken a bite. A lot of the Russian boats — including the $700 million megayacht Scheherazade, allegedly owned by Vladimir Putin himself — have been seized.

But the world is bigger than Russia — and there are more billionaires than ever.

“The sanctions didn’t affect the industry as much as you might think,” said Bob Denison , a top American broker with new offices in Monaco. He said the orders for “new builds” in European shipyards that were canceled because the buyers were placed on sanction lists were quickly snapped up by others who weren’t.

Russian oligarchs loved luxe Sardinia. Now they’re frozen out of paradise.

The problem with the superyacht market today?

“There’s not enough superyachts,” said Jeremy Roche, one of Denison’s directors.

It costs 600 euros ($635) for a day pass to the Monaco Yacht Show. Many well-heeled lookie-loos have come this week to stroll along the blue-carpeted docks and bump into a champagne tent.

And by well-heeled, we mean it. You must take off your shoes to board boats at the show — even if you are the prince of Monaco. So high-end footwear is strewn in front of the gangways, the ubiquitous Gucci loafers jumbled together with sneakers from Dior and Balenciaga that will set you back about $1,000 per pair.

The number of real buyers — the whales — is harder to calculate. A sales rep estimated there might be one buyer for every 100 staff — that’s exhibitors, brokers, deckhands, hostesses, marketers, cleaners, security.

We got an invitation from a friendly publicist to take a tour of Phoenix 2, built by Lürssen shipyard in northern Germany. She’s 90 meters, or 295 feet, with room for 14 guests in seven cabins, attended by a crew of 28 — and on sale for $132 million.

The boat was designed for the “richest man in Poland,” the late Jan Kulczyk, who wanted the interior to resemble an art deco Manhattan penthouse. There’s an Empire State Building vibe, with a lot of black and white — plus a bourbon bar, lap pool, steam sauna, screening room, gym, wine cave, Steinway piano and duplex owners’ cabin.

Henry Smith, a partner at Cecil Wright brokerage, was showing the boat and happy to discuss the evolving market for superyachts — generally, boats more than 24 meters.

Yacht justice: A new front in the war drags Russia’s oligarchs into the spotlight

Three decades ago, a 40-meter yacht would have been gigantic, he said. Today, those are considered midsize. Of the roughly 1,200 superyachts on order in boatyards, about two dozen are more than 100 meters.

“Boats just get bigger and bigger, with prices going up and up,” he said. “The future looks bright.”

The pace of sales is down a bit from the records of the pandemic years, when the ultrarich sought out superyachts as safe havens. But Smith said this year is still good.

He and his brokerage recently oversaw the sale of superyacht Kismet , originally built for Pakistani American billionaire Shahid Khan , owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The boat was on the market for just three months and sold for 149 million euros ($157 million).

Jaguars owner Shahid Khan proves to be the exception in more ways than one among NFL owners

The buyers keep coming, but they are changing, the brokers say.

Traditionally, they have been multimillionaires — 99 percent male — who sell their businesses in their mid-60s and want some high-end downtime with family and friends. The trend now is younger, with younger families, who struck it rich, or as Smith called it, experienced “a big liquidity event.”

He said, “I took on a chap who made several billion very quickly,” who wasn’t sure exactly what he wanted, except that he really wanted … something big.

At the boat show, we learned that sometimes it’s impossible to accommodate everything you need on your superyacht.

Tenders — used to ferry owners and guests from ship to shore — have a low profile and can be stored aboard in what the yachting community calls “the garage.” Robert Oakley of Falcon Tenders will sell you Miss Wonderly for $2.19 million. It’s powered by a hybrid diesel-electric engine, which gives you one hour on electric in port. “Think limousine,” he said.

But where do you put the sub?

Ian Sheard, the engineering director of Seamagine , maker of private submarines, explained it to us.

“You got the big white boat, the superyacht, right?” Sheard said. “Then you need the toy hauler.”

“The ‘shadow ship’ that follows the superyacht that has all the stuff you can’t fit on the superyacht.”

Richer than the royals: Win puts Rishi Sunak’s wealth in the spotlight

His submarines cost $4 million to $7 million and can carry two to seven passengers, with over 12,000 drama-free dives so far.

On our tours of superyachts, the guides often spoke of the boats’ “understated glamour.” But the glamour seemed bluntly stated, which was kind of the point?

Some interiors had a look and feel of a neutral-color Four Seasons. Others brought to mind a Vegas suite for a high-roller.

Aboard the $110 million Kensho, the publicist said that the owner (Udo Müller, chief executive of Ströer Media), wanted “a villa at sea.”

She described it as “more Zen, more calm.”

The kind of calm that three onboard bars might provide.

An older, smaller superyacht can be had for as little as $10 million — the price of an upscale home in Los Angeles or London. But if you are not ready to buy, many of the boats are used by their owners for only a few weeks in the high season and are otherwise available for charter.

To rent the Phoenix 2 costs a base price of $1.22 million per week. That doesn’t include fuel, food, drink, taxes, mooring and dock fees or tips — so call it $1.6 million. We had to ask a couple of times about the bill and were told to keep adding zeros.

It’s the fuel that gets you. A 50-meter yacht making a fast run between Monaco and St. Tropez might burn through $35,000 of diesel.

And even if you don’t go anywhere, a mooring ball or a slip at a primo port can cost thousands of dollars a night.

There was some talk at the Monaco Yacht Show about sustainability — about new green fuels, more gentle anchoring — but it was a sideshow.

Smith, the super broker, put it this way. “Green yachting is mostly a fallacy,” he said, adding, “no illusion, these things pollute.” Though you can mitigate the damage a bit.

He suggested anyone chartering a superyacht for a week “go out and plant a lot of trees.”

Inside £1bn superyacht ‘Streets of Monaco’ – with replica Grand Prix track, casino & tennis court

  • Josie Klein

The Prices & Parties Aboard the Iconic Yachts of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix

who owns the streets of monaco yacht

It’s a bona fide showcase of opulence. Here’s what you need to know about the yachts at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The most expensive weekend in sports is here. Formula 1 drivers will take their talents to the French Riviera on Sunday for the Monaco Grand Prix. Sure, fans mainly flock to watch their favorite driver make the podium, but this particular race is also an excuse to show off one’s latest luxury toys.

In this case, it’s the super-yachts that provide the most picturesque backdrop for the complicated track.

Attending a Formula 1 race is already a bucket-list experience. Watching it from the upper deck of a multi-million-dollar aquatic behemoth? Not many can say they’ll have that opportunity. Logistically speaking, finding yourself on one of those things isn’t guaranteed. You either have to be the owner of the ship, know said owner personally, or eclipse celebrity status that will automatically grant you an invitation if you are even in the general vicinity.

The illustrious Port Hercules marina is the hottest place to be over the next few days, so let’s take a look at what it takes to find yourself amongst Hollywood A-listers and their Very Important Friends.

Get on our list for weekly sports business, industry trends, interviews, and more.

  • Inside the Boardroom

Securing a spot on the water is no easy feat. Many opt to rent one for the weekend, which certainly comes at a hefty price tag. According to The Sports Rush , there are 760 berths up for grabs, and the least expensive will run you $3,800 a night. But it’s no guarantee that price will grant you an acceptable vantage point of the race. If that’s a priority, then expect to pay at least $110,000 a night. Keep in mind, that doesn’t even include food, drinks, entertainment, and anything else to make your super-yacht the most exclusive of the bunch. Also, yachts perched along the inner docks of Port Hercules have a length restriction of 30 meters.

For those looking to experience opulence without the possession of a boat, there’s an option for that. Enter the super-yacht hospitality package. As Yacht Charter Fleet describes, you can still be among the who’s-who in Monte Carlo, and even get a trackside vantage point of the race. Because they don’t come with the responsibility of managing a boat, demand for this option is incredibly high. In fact, many secure their spots for next year immediately following this year’s festivities. All the same benefits like access to premier dining and extravagant amusement are still included.

Billed as the most prestigious hospitality package in Monaco, Amber Lounge is an immersive experience that aims to please. Securing a pass here is like finding a golden ticket for a trip to the Willy Wonka factory — except you’re likely feasting on the rarest of chocolate available. At this VIP spot, expect to network with F1 drivers, celebrities in town for the Cannes Film Festival, and if you’re lucky, royalty. Some of the must-attend events include fashion shows, charity events, dinners prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, and more. Individual passes for the lounge run €600 ($642) a person and climb up to €35,000 ($37,459) for a semi-private VIP suite table for 10 with free-flowing beverages and champagne. As for the yacht’s hospitality, a weekend experience aboard a cabin includes race viewing tickets, gourmet meals and afternoon tea, an open bar, and a live DJ for a cool €5,100 ($5,458) a person.

Who Owns the Largest Yacht in Monaco?

With all this talk about luxury, it certainly begs the question: What is the largest vessel? That so happens to be The Octopus , which was constructed for the late Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft and former owner of the Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle Seahawks, and Seattle Sounders. Measuring 414 feet long, The Octopus is worth $285 million and comfortably sleeps 12 guests. It has two helipads, a basketball court, a movie theater, and its own pool. The price to rent the yacht for a week is almost as extravagant as the amenities it offers, coming in at an overwhelming $2.2 million.

Here are more details about Octopus: The garage alone is 118 feet and holds 7 tenders, several jet skis, and a 10-person submarine. The boat was previously owned by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, costing $20M to operate each year. In January, seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton and Olympic medalist Shaun White famously rented The Octopus to cruise around Antarctica, taking the continent’s breathtaking views, stunning wildlife, and more. Hamilton is set to race in Monaco, which he has won three times.

I tutored the children of Russia's elite amid the backdrop of war. One teenager said he had his own massage therapist.

  • I used to teach the children of Russian oligarchs and politicians.
  • Our classrooms were penthouse apartments, yachts, and mansions in exclusive Moscow suburbs.
  • The outbreak of war in Ukraine revealed just how isolated the kids were.

Insider Today

This essay is based on the recollections of Cameron Manley, 24, a news fellow at Business Insider who previously worked as a private tutor in Moscow and, following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Monaco. The names of students have been changed to protect their identity.

In late 2021, I started working for an international tutoring agency in Moscow.

The agency counted some of Russia's elite among its clientele — so I was quickly thrust into a world of private jets, guarded estates, and personal chauffeurs.

I worked in Moscow until Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, when I was relocated to Monaco.

We charged $150 per hour minimum for classes, but more experienced tutors and specific packages for private-school assessments or English-language testing would cost more.

Tutoring does not require any kind of formal qualification, but parents were still often happy to part with their cash as long as the tutors had a native-English accent and some connection to either the British private school system or some of the UK's top universities.

$150 was also small change for many of these families, which was reflected in the various classroom settings — Monaco penthouses, Moscow mansions, and yachts.

The money the Russian elite were willing to throw at young, inexperienced tutors was unbelievable — and frankly quite frightening.

I had acquaintances who worked as governors or nannies who were earning well into six figures.

Others were offered similarly extortionate salaries to spend their summers teaching on yachts in places like St. Barts in the Caribbean or sailing around the world.

I taught in luxurious villas and penthouse apartments

Often the children we taught, who were from four to around 18 years old, had private drivers who hurried them about in tinted Range Rovers or Mercedes-Benz cars.

In Moscow, many of our classes took place in Rublevka, an elite guarded estate in the west of the capital, where Russian President Vladimir Putin owns a home.

Many of the kids we taught lived in a world entirely different from any we had known.

A colleague of mine did after-school classes there with an eight-year-old boy called Ivan.

One week his family had been planning a weekend trip to get away from the capital: "I hope the weather isn't too bad so we can take the helicopter and don't have to drive," he said.

We also homeschooled two pupils: Alexei, 13, and his younger sister, Elena, 11.

The first time I met Alexei, he walked into our office sporting $1,000 Balenciaga trainers and a watch worth at least five times as much.

He was nevertheless a pleasant child but, like Ivan, appeared somewhat disconnected from reality.

In one class, he was shocked to hear that we didn't receive regular pampering from staff at home: "It's been seven months since you had a massage? I have a massage every day, I have my own massage therapist," he told us.

Elena was less communicative and didn't seem to enjoy the lavish lifestyle she had.

"What have I done to deserve this? I hate my life," she would often say.

My colleagues and I became increasingly concerned about her well-being as time went on.

She didn't enjoy classes alone and wanted to be with friends in a normal school.

But her parents insisted.

She seem tied to the life into which she had been born.

The job constantly surprised me

I met two types of parents in the job: Those who spent thousands of dollars on their children because they cared about them, and those who spent the money so that they didn't have to think about them.

I felt that many of the parents fell into the latter category.

Related stories

Frequently, we had little, if any, contact with the parents, and we would usually deal with nannies or drivers instead.

It felt like many of the parents found you to be an eye-sore in their luxurious lives.

Once, I had to teach a lesson at a seaside villa in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, an exclusive area between Nice in the south of France and Monaco.

The home was on a private road, and I entered through a large automatic gate that was littered with security cameras.

The house was spread out over two floors, with a swimming pool, a fully-equipped gym, a sauna, and a steam room.

When I arrived, they told me that the kids, aged four and six, had not finished their personal training session and that I would have to wait outside in the street.

Eventually the nanny said she would find me somewhere to sit "out of sight," so I was hurried into a large store cupboard in the furthest corner of the house. The kids strolled in about an hour later.

Some tried to get their children out of Russia after the invasion began

When the war in Ukraine broke out, a number of families came to us looking to find school placements for their children either in the West or in the United Arab Emirates , where many wealthy Russians fled at the outbreak of the war.

There was one family with three young children who were looking to find schools in Dubai.

Speaking to us in perfect English on Zoom with a background that boasted enormous paintings and palatial pillars, they seemed polite, well-mannered, and bright.

We later discovered that the kids were the grandchildren of a senior Russian politician who had played a major role in starting the war in Ukraine.

The irony was not lost on us that some of those who had played a key part in helping Putin initiate his brutal, unprovoked invasion were now trying to help their children escape Russia.

The children often brought up politics and the war

The company we worked for had explicitly told us to avoid discussing politics with the pupils, as the government was cracking down on protestors, and it could have put us and our pupils in danger.

But the children often brought the topic up themselves, their comments ringing with the ideology they had likely absorbed at home.

"Ukraine is ours, after all," Alexei told me in one class just after the invasion began in February.

Ivan, referring to a picture of Putin, once said, "Oh, he's amazing! Don't you think he's amazing?"

"You should open an office in Kyiv. It's beautiful there," one parent also wryly said to me.

There were occasional breakthroughs

We taught many different pupils but only one really seemed to appreciate just how lucky they were.

Elizaveta, 15, frequently expressed her discontent with Putin's Russia.

"We're killing thousands of innocent Ukrainians. It's awful," she once said.

That week, she had been kicked out of school for dyeing her hair and had asked her parents to book some additional classes so that she didn't fall behind.

Her parents were looking to send her to an English private school that September.

"The best thing I can do now is leave Russia," she told me. "That's the last option I have. Perhaps from abroad, I might be able to do some good."

Elizaveta was an anomaly, and most of the time, you had to settle for smaller victories.

I distinctly remember telling our homeschooled pupils that my colleagues and I had decided to leave Russia .

Elena seemed like she could not have cared less.

But Alexei looked genuinely upset.

It was as though the prism through which he saw the world had been, if not broken, then at the very least a little scratched.
