Pop Yachts - brokers or scammers?

  • Add to quote

I see their listings plastered all over Ebay and at times on CL - the boats tend to be older and all are overpriced for the Florida market - in the body of each ad is a come-on for people to join their brokerage to sell boats - pretty tacky. Just curious if anyone has bought or sold a boat through them ?- they do at least provide lots of pictures

I bought one thru them, out of state, and it was a good experience. No games, straight forward.

I recently inquired about a boat that POP Yachts represented. The broker that contacted me had the customer skills one would usually stereotype with a used-car salesman. In general, the broker did several things to piss-me-off. I told him that my interest in this boat or any other boat that POP Yachts represent is gone. I will not deal with them again.

oldlaxer1

I looked at one they had listed. Broker was friendly and helpful. I ended up not purchasing the boat but I had no issues with POP Yachts I'm guessing the experience varies from broker to broker.

My complaint is that you have to register before you can even look at all of the photos. I'm a potential buyer and you're going to force me to register before you'll even show me what you have for sale!?! Give me a break!!! That's just stupid. Imagine how long Walmart would have stayed in business if, when he opened the first one, Sam Walton had stood at the door with a clipboard and said, "You can't come in and look around until you let me collect some information about you." Sadly, PopYachts is not the only one that does this sort of thing. It just amazes me that there are business people out there who are so completely brain-dead that they think -- just because it's the internet -- it is okay to throw roadblocks in front of potential customers who want to get some information.

You mean like. Mmm. Costco. ......

No. Not like Costco. Unless they've changed their policy in the last few years, Costco will let you come in and look around without joining. You can check prices, browse through the whole store, and so on. Only when you decide that you want to buy something are you then required to join. If PopYachts followed that sort of policy I would have no complaints. But PopYachts won't let you browse around -- they won't let you see the pictures of the boats they have -- until you register. That is stupid. Just plain STOOOPID!

I believe that each POP Yachts broker has the latitude to set their own policies for dealing with customers. Many salespeople feel that you have entered a series of transactions and negotiations from the minute that they pick up the phone; I'll do something for you only if you do something for me. I used to be in sales training, and I recognize the behavior. Before I made a 5-hour car trip to see a boat, I asked the POP Yachts broker for the HIN of the vessel I was interested in. He flatly refused, explaining that he thought that I would use it to identify the seller, and cut him out of his commission. He stated that he would provide the HIN and answers to other questions that I had after I signed a contract to buy the boat. I found this unacceptable and lost interest in dealing with either him or POP Yachts. Shortly thereafter I was contacted by another POP Yachts broker who sent me a link to where I could get a free copy of a "Carfax for boats" that had been done on that vessel. I never looked at it, because I had moved on.

I had a bad experience with a PopYacht broker. I will never even look at one of their listings again.

One question for you all who have recently dealt with POP Yachts. When I was looking 2+ years ago it seemed to me that they were claim jumping for sale listings. As in they were listing boats for sale that were not actually listed with them...in an effort to get you to work with them to buy a boat. Have any of you come across this??

d0n- "you're going to force me to register before you'll even show me " I expect that is just one more example of a company (in this case, the parent company itself) trying to monetize everything, gathering up your demographics to sell them. Someone is willing to pay them for every "potential boat buyer" they can name, and when you sign up...you've been datamined. So, step right up and join the game, send the emails to your favorite local FCC chairperson or other deserving entity. Heck, its only karma, right?(G) They seem like an "MLS" for people who want to be self-employed boat brokers. You find a boat someone is selling, copy it to your PY account...and if you're lucky, get a split. Or something to some similar effect, from what I've seen. And just like real estate brokers (who aren't "Realtors®") hey, if the broker is on their toes...all the same to the buyer, right?

I contacted them a couple years back about a boat and had a good experience with the broker I dealt with. Did not get past the offer stage. They use a marketing automation system for ongoing marketing (which I don't see a lot of in this industry) which is the reason for the quicker push to collect an email address (my opinion from looking from the outside in). I got the feeling they are more of an "association" type of arrangement selling leads to various brokers.

I don't think I'd call Popyachts itself a "scam". They are more like the real estate MLS, or Amazon, ebay, Alibaba, and every eastern bazaar. It seems pretty much that anyone can sign up, use the Popyachts "umbrella", and then proceed to try posting and selling pretty much anything--without being bothered by things like having or needing a broker's license or other professional oversight.

VIEXILE

No, nothing like an MLS. Yachtworld is the MLS and Popyachts was banned from there. So the answer to the original question is a resounding "YES!!". They supposedly had a boat in Maine for sale, broker was in FL. This was a couple years ago. They kept harvesting and harvesting my info. But would never tell me where the boat was. Supposedly in "Saco, ME." It was a lie. Too good to be true. They steal Craigslist photos and post them themselves, then approach the seller and try to get a commission. They charge fees to buyers, etc., etc. Absolutely no ethics. Now there's a new one that comes after you through Craigslist offering "free FSBO postings," then torments you by phone until you pay them $300.00. I offered to provide the guy's number to the Maine Attorney General's office and never heard from him again.

POPYACHTS is a scam. Here is what I think they do. They look for boats on Craigslist and ebay and contact the seller and get them to agree to have them represent their boat. They then mark up the original seller price 2X and then make a really flashy ad on Ebay and Craigslist hoping to get you to over pay for the boat. How do I know this? I had been watching a boat in the Pittsburgh area. It had been listed for a long time on craigslist locally. This ad stood out because the seller was listing it as a Chris Craft Baja. Two manufacturers that were never related. The boat was also a wreck and had been sitting out for a long time. One day while looking at local ebay ads I saw the same boat and same pics listed by POPYACHTS. The ad was glowing and misrepresented the actual condition of the boat. I contacted the POPYACHTS broker regarding the boat. They got back to me. When I said why was the boat listed locally for a price that was half of what they were listing it for. He then became angry with the question and said owners can list them locally for what they want. So I am not actually sure if the local owner was even aware that their boat was listed on ebay. I suspect not. I would say, if you are consider a boat listed by POPYACHTS to search for the boat locally and do the deal with the owner and cut out mark up of the middle man. Pretty sleazy company in my opinion. I suspect any positive reviews are made up by the company. I would avoid.

Every time an add for a POP yachts boat comes up there is an add for Seatow on the page. what is that telling you.

Tells me seatow buys promotion ads.

Ya. you are going to buy adds where your customers are, tells me they get a lot of business from POP 's customers

Brokers or scammers? Maybe a little of both. I really hate to give up my information, or have to speak with a broker, just to look at photos of a boat online.

Free 1 yr seatow low level membership

It could also be that the self-employed "local representatives" were scamming both the owners AND Popyachts by putting the boat on ebay without the knowledge of either. Popyachts makes it clear that they are only going to take a 10% commission. But like the Uber drivers who rudely embarrass Uber...the contractors might be up to anything else.

Curiously, I just got an email from a Pop Yachts scammer broker in Bradenton, and the boat is on Craigslist in Maine. Wanted to get my phone number so he could "call and explain the process." Said he wanted to market the boat and charge any fees to the buyer. So, Shane, the answer is a resounding "NO." There's a reason (I told him) Pop Yachts is banned from Yachtworld. I also warned him if he ripped and represented my photos in any way, I'd be calling both the Maine and Florida Attorney General's offices.

It might be worth contacting Popyachts about this guy. THEY may not want to be affiliated with him either. Their basic concept, to have a wide listing service other than YW, and to provide "local brokers" to make it different from just a laundry list, isn't so crazy. But if they are not vetting the "local brokers"... Well, even Youtube has been having problems cancelling pedophile accounts, and Amazon can't seem to get rid of the counterfeiters. Scams appear wherever there's money to be stolen. Ergh, made.

No to contacting Pop Yachts about anyone. The business model is the problem. They rip photos off FSBO's, then try to claim a commission. They got booted from YW for a reason. I mean, how BAD do you have to be to get kicked out of the only multiple listing service for yacht brokerage in the U.S.?

I don't know why (or for sure if) YW kicked them off, but since the Popyachts operation would seem to be a competitor to YW, not just a simple brokerage, that in itself would be reason to kick them off regardless to any questions of misbehavior. Very few businesses, including hobby web forums that depends on viewers and advertisers, allow competitors to set up camp on them. If PY is doing all that you say they are, a complaint with the FTC might get them shut down. Ripping off other people's photos and "trying to claim a commission" when there was no prior arrangement would violate numerous laws and probably qualify for prosecution under RICO as well. Which would make them a great target for any federal agency, assuming that's what has been going on.

So, I haven't seen anyone on here from the seller perspective...and while every situation is different, I seriously doubt POP is advertising and trying to sell boats at 2X the seller's asking price. Why do I know this? Because I am selling my boat through POP and they are advertising less than 10% higher and that is their commission. Again, just a different perspective from the seller's side of the story.[/QUOTE]

it looks like a scam

Everyone's experience may be different, but I find the listings annoying and basically click bait. We did contact a POP Yachts sales agent about a boat, and when we met to see the boat it was clear that he knew nothing about it, and probably had never met the owner. I can usually find a listing for the same boat on multiple sites so I usually favor the more legit, local agent.

That's what they do. For example, a recent Dyer 29 (nice little downeaster ********) was on the local Craigslist for $75,000.00. I think the actual listing broker (who had a legitimate listing) and the owner got wind of it and it was taken down. The number to call, for a Maine boat, was in Florida. Same number as I called a few years ago for a Pearson 365 that looked great and was claimed to be in Saco, Maine. I called the boatyards in Saco, asked around and the boat didn't exist. Click bait. When I called, they had to "coordinate with the owner." It dragged out awhile and then other P365's were offered. Scam. I also researched complaints against them. There were a lot, overcharges, etc., etc.

Thieves, or at least they try to be. Sold my boat. Couple months later I get an email that they want a commission. They literally did nothing for me to sell my boat. They claim I owe a commission because the guy that bought my boat was registered with POP and he looked at my ad. Thing is I sold this boat to him through Craigslist. POP was not involved at all. Before POP even sent an email that he had looked at my ad I had taken him on a sea trial. They didn't even know the boat was sold. I got about 20 emails saying certain people are looking at my ad. The thing is if you are registered with them and look at an ad a set amount of times they send this email automatically to the seller to look they are doing something. Now, if anyone of those people wind up buying your boat they think they are owed whether or not they do anything with POP besides look at your ad. All contact was done on Craigslist and the phone not through POP and BEFORE he even looked at my ad on POP. Now they want $2500 and are threatening court. I will tell everyone I know about their criminal behavior and will never use POP again.

KUDOS to my POP Team: Gena Kraft, Tricia Thompson and Kevin I can't thank my POP team enough for helping me sell my RV this morning in California! It was a process, but painless, THANKS to you guys. Prior to POP, I tried to do it on my own, but everything about it was very frustrating and time-consuming. They'll take the worry of selling your RV so you can focus on your life, work and the things you'd rather spend time on other than answering questions on the phone or showing your RV to a non serious buyer. Thank you Gena for taking care of the listing and giving me weekly updates. Thank you Tricia for reassuring me everything will go smoothly and handling the closing documents and sale of the RV. Thank you Kevin, who drove 3 hours to represent POP and be by my side, during the sale of the RV.

Invest in your employees more; consider not cancelling your employees contract because they don't meet the ridiculous standard of cold calling hundreds & hundreds of customers when they can still provide boots on the ground company photography & representation in their designated territory. I provided boots on the ground representation and photography for a listing when my contract was unceremoniously cancelled- RIGHT as I was finally involved in my first sale (how convenient for pop). It seemed shady on the higher ups part as well to cancel my contract as soon as I was involved in a deal closing; like they didn't want me to get any $$ from the deal because I had carefully constructed hundreds of cold emails every week for months but it wasn't enough for them. I emailed the CEO Lawrence asking for clarification and was never responded to; probably because he knows they were not only wrong to cut me out of the deal I was a rep for but potentially illegal. They owe me for this ONE deal I got to be involved in after months of sending hundreds of emails to customers and making several trips to add photography to listings- not like I ever got paid for anything else from them. They don't want to reward their employees for work they've done, unless the employee sends something like thousands of emails in months, as if potential clients want to be constantly contacted like that. I didn't think they were a scam until they cancelled my contract like they did and made sure I didn't get paid a single cent. Thanks for nothing POP.

I recently purchased a Boat - Monterey 282 CR the closing staff was good, a few minor missteps. Where the real 5 stars come from Bill Bland in the Buford Ga area (Lake Lanier). Met Bill liked the boat and made the deal. That was over 4 months ago, Bill has been available when we have reached out to him and has never said he was too busy. Words cannot express the gratitude we all feel with his assistance. If your fortunate enough to have Bill working with you it will be a great experience. Thanks, Bill

I've been very interested in this boat for a while. When I call POP Yachts to see if the boat was still available the broker told me yes and when would I like to see it I text her back a date and time and she told me she would contact me the next day. I didn't hear from her the next day or the day after that ,I got a text to call her. She told me the owner didn't want to come down unless I was serious about purchasing the boat which I told her I was but I had some questions since the transmission wasn't working. She then demanded to know how I was going to pay for the boat and that she was too busy to answer my questions, and beside you said it would be six months before I could purchase it. I told her that she was wrong maybe she was so busy that it was somebody else she is thing of. Now she can kiss my butt goodbye .

Had a great experience working with Pop RVs. They connected the buyer and seller well. Our representative for closing Tracy Howard was especially amazing and always kept us in the loop with what was happening. Pop RVs is especially lucky to have someone like that work for their company. I would highly recommend using Pop RVs again to a friend if they were looking for a RV!

Beware of this business. I dealt with a sales person named "Laura" in Littleton. I was looking for a boat broker that could find me a boat anywhere. This was well understood. Like all sales people, they think that the longer they have you on the hook, the better chance they have of getting business. For 4 days, this girl lies to me about the role of Pop Yachts and tells me they do everything when come to FINALLY find out, they ONLY sell their own boats and ARE NOT actual boat brokers. BLATANTLY LIED TO ME FOR DAYS. Boats are expensive. Do you want a company that lies to you handling your million dollar boat purchase??? Yikes.

Photo of Kevin H.

They gave a honest evaluation of my RV and sold it quicker than I anticipated. Bradley was my salesman he did a good job I would work with him again.

Photo of David B.

Awful Experiences. Be very careful. After two experiences personally, both boats were very, very over-priced and very, very over-represented as to quality, etc. They put in fictitious value and quality upgrades that don't exist. Recommend that you "Stay far away".

Laura Manges was very responsive from the beginning of the process of selling my boat. She kept me updated and produced 18 folks that were interested in my vessel. The follow up was very impressive as well, almost daily emails. I would use Laura again at Pop Yachts.

Pop RVs and Roger:AWESOME!!

Pop RVs and Roger, who we worked with, made this one of the smoothest processes ever! It was so much easier to go through them than trying to sell our RV ourselves. It was an east process with lots of upfront details about what we should expect. It happened exactly as they said. We were consistently kept up to date with where things stood. Everyone was friendly, efficient and reachable at all times. I highly recommend if you want to buy or sell an RV!

We are thrilled to hear that the selling process was smooth and easy for you, and that our team provided you with excellent customer service. A Wonderful and Trust worthy Experience...

Everyone I came in contact with were truly PROFESSIONAL. When they requested info from me, I created and they responded receipt. When I had questions about the unit or process one or two responded back to me. When I was required to put down the deposited from bank to bank and also FINAL payment, copies were emailed back to me that the task(s) were completed. Neil was GREAT for my Inspection of said unit and when my son and two grown grand sons did the FINAL Inspection, Neil was a BIG help to them. I would rate Rome, Neil, Harley and others on a scale of 1 to 10 a 13 (thirteen). If I ever needed to sell the unit (I am 81), I will ask Pops RV to assist. It was a GREAT & WONDERFUL Experience and I am a HAPPY RV'er! Ivan Price, a transfer from California to Florida

Working with Pop RVs was a great…

Working with Pop RVs was a great experience, and our second time! From the listing process through the sales closure, Robert, our sales representative, was professional and attentive to our needs. Their reach into the listings market is the largest I have encountered. One of the main reasons for using Pop RVs the second time was due to the level of professionalism and trust in the closing process. No concerns about the payments and the last mile of the transaction with the buyer as I know that PoP RVs has this all covered. In an industry that is wrought with less than dependable or unethical companies/individuals, knowing that you have someone you can trust is worth a lot. I would highly recommend PoP RVs to anyone selling their RV.

THEY ADVERTISED NATION WIDE AND THERE…

THEY ADVERTISED NATION WIDE AND THERE WAS MANY LOOKERS. BUT WE LIVE IN A REMOTE AREA SO ONLY ONE PERSON WAS ABLE TO COME TO INSPECT THE RV. THEY DID PURCHASE IT. POPRV ADDED $2150 TO OUR PRICE WHICH WAS PAID BY THE BUYER. THEY DO DESERVE A COMMISSION FOR SURE. THEN I LOOKED AT THE BUYERS CONTRACT AND THE BUYER GOT A $495 CHARGE FOR A TITLE SEARCH. I EMAILED POPRV A COPY OF OUR TITLE WHICH WAS CURRENT AND CLEAR. I FELT BAD ABOUT THIS CHARGE AND TOLD THE BUYER I WOULD DROP MY PRICE $500. POPRV WAS GOOD FOR ME BUT I FEEL THEY DIDN'T NEED TO CHARGE THE BUYER THE EXTRA $495. THEY DIDN'T COME HERE TO TAKE PICTURES OR EVER MEET WITH US IN PERSON, I GUESS BECAUSE OF OUR LOCATION.

Date of experience : 29 June 2023

We are glad to hear that we were able to help you sell your RV, even in a remote area. We have Pop Consultants all over the country, but not everywhere (yet). Our fees are clear and transparent to the buyers and sellers from the beginning. The buyer's fee covers much more than a title search. We also provide funding transactions, taxes where applicable, clear and free titles, inspection recommendations, and much more to ensure that it is a legitimate sale so that the buyers and sellers get everything they need for a smooth transaction.

WATCH OUT FOR THIS COMPANY!!

WATCH OUT FOR THIS COMPANY!!! DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!! They tell you one thing and try to sue you as soon as you stop doing business with them. I had an agreement with Joseph Spadafina one of their sales reps. that it was OK to use their services and advertise elsewhere. I agreed and had other buyers interested through BoatTrader.com, which I would suggest going with instead Popyachts. I told them I had a buyer and if that didn't go through I would consider their offer after I showed the boat. I sold the boat and notified them that their services were not needed and in a couple of weeks, they will harass you will legal threats and get a commission on something they never did. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!!!!!!! BAD BUSINES

Date of experience : 11 April 2022

Pop has completed over 22,000 sales since 2009, and we professionally represent every unit entrusted to us. Our straightforward marketing agreement encourages sellers to continue to market their units on their own. We simply ask sellers to let us know of potential buyers identified by their own advertising. In return, Pop generates detailed weekly reports to inform sellers of all buyer activity generated through our marketing efforts. Neither party should ever be surprised by the origin of a prospective buyer. Very rarely, a seller will proceed outside of our marketing agreement. We do not take any collection action lightly, and we communicate with each seller to avoid any misunderstandings. While we recognize that this may prove upsetting to any seller who hoped to avoid a contractual obligation, it is not unreasonable for a reputable company to pursue resolution in accordance with signed contracts. We remain in contact with the registered owner of this boat. Thank you.

Pops RV have great people to work with…

Pops RV have great people to work with throughout the purchasing of an RV. People like Laura, Trish and Ken were knowledgeable, conscientious, accessible and great to work with. From the time we first looked at the travel trailer till we finally made a decision these folks were there. They walked us through the process and as first time buyers, they took all our concerns away and answered all our questions. The process is smooth, safe for the buyer and was easy to buy a travel trailer 1,700 miles away from where we live. I recommend Pop’s RV very highly.

I recently bought a boat from Pops Yachts and it was made so easy by the great staff I dealt with. I live in Australia so I had to rely a lot on the help from Pops to get me all the information I needed to make the right purchase. I would highly recommend anyone looking at purchasing a boat to consider Pops. Team Orr Dylan and Tonya we’re outstanding in helping myself find and then close out the purchase. Regards Jeff.

Excellent service

I recently purchased my boat through Pop Yachts. It's my second boat through them, and once again it was a terrific experience. My buyers agent Steve sent me boats almost daily to look at, and send him feedback on what I was looking for. We narrowed it down and found the perfect boat only 100 miles from my home. I needed to buy int and pick it up on a certain day, and they made it happen. Excellent!

Buying RAPTURE I thought buying a50 year old sailboat…

I thought buying a50 year old sailboat would be nightmare but it was anything but that. Charlie Seitz in Florida got me on boats on the west coast And dealing with a competitor broker who shall remain nameless was all concerned about splitting the commission. When I found my boat in Florida Charlie took the reins which allowed me concentrate on selling my condo, packing up and driving to Vero Beach for the haul out which I was determined to attend. Tonya D came on board then and every detail was taken care of except for me having to hire a surveyor, all I did was open her emails, read and sign docs! So easy! After inspecting the boat on the day of my arrival, the haul out the next day and a small matter of wiring the money to escrow I didn’t have to do a darn thing except e-sign docs. Now I’m living on my boat and life is good! Thanks guys! YOU ROCK!!

Is POP Yachts a Scam? Why Many Believe it Is

In its own words, POP Yachts is a boat broker. Otherwise, its version of an About Us page is filled with the kind of information that most people would expect, which is to say, a description of what it does as well as how it does it but touched up to make it as presentable as possible. Something that isn't particularly uncommon for business websites to say the least. However, if interested individuals choose to look further using search engines, chances are good that they will turn up further web pages on other webpages with much more unpleasant things to say about the boat broker. Due to this, it is perfectly natural for them to wonder whether POP Yachts is a scam or not.

Is POP Yachts a Scammer?

Unfortunately, there is no simple and straightforward method for telling when a business has crossed the line from being a poor provider of products and services to being a straight-up scam. There are plenty of places where people have posted complaints about POP Yachts. For proof, look no further than the Better Business Bureau , which has provided it with a B- rating based on a total of 11 complaints. Furthermore, it is important to note that the Better Business Bureau has listed a 3-star review based on an aggregate of the customer reviews that have been submitted to it. Curiously, these reviews are either very good or very bad with few reviews that are in-between, which could be interpreted to mean that POP Yachts customers either have very good or very bad experiences. This is further supported by what people have said on various boat forums, which show a fair amount of negativity mixed in with some pretty positive comments.

As for the exact nature of the complaints, they are wide-ranging in nature rather than focused on one or even a small number of issues. In some cases, people complained about POP Yachts representatives misrepresenting the truth, which is a serious warning sign for obvious reasons. In other cases, complaints ranged from the poor attitude of POP Yachts representatives to a lack of response on the part of the boat broker and over-aggressiveness in their attempts to convince boat owners to sell through them. Based on this, it seems reasonable to say that POP Yachts has some serious issues, particularly since the range of reviews posted on a number of websites make it clear that this isn't just one or two customers who are dissatisfied by their interactions with the boat broker.

Moving on, it is curious to note that POP Yachts claims to be one of the best businesses of its kind when measured using the reviews posted on Trustpilot.com . For those who are unfamiliar with that particular name, Trustpilot.com is a review website where customers can post reviews about the businesses that they have interacted with. Perhaps unsurprisingly, online review sites are filled with dishonest reviews, which are the inevitable outcome when there are such strong incentives at work without the corresponding barriers set up to prevent people from acting upon them. However, Trustpilot.com is particularly concerning because KwikChex has turned up actual examples of fake reviews on its website, which isn't helped by the fact that the website lets its premium users filter the reviews that interested individuals see without any indication that said reviews have been filtered. Combined, these facts don't exactly inspire a great deal of confidence in what Trustpilot.com has to say on the matter, particularly when there are so many other complaints on other websites that contradict the substance of this particular claim.

Summed up, there is no simple and straightforward method for determining whether POP Yachts is a scam or not. When one considers the fact that it has been in business for years and years, it seems probable that it isn't a scam so much as a business that hasn't been very good at satisfying a substantial number of the customers that it has interacted with. However, whether POP Yachts is a scam or not probably isn't actually that interesting for most consumers out there. Instead, what most of them are really interested in is whether POP Yachts can be trusted to provide them with their desired service or not, in which case, the answer is at best a "maybe, maybe not." Suffice to say that this isn't what anyone would consider to be a stirring endorsement, meaning that interested individuals might want to look elsewhere. Something that is particularly true because there isn't exactly a shortage of other service providers that can help them with whatever it is that they are looking for in this regard.

How Can You Tell that Something Is a Scam Anyways?

In any case, interested individuals might want to look into the various ways that they can pick up on something being a scam, which should help them avoid a wide range of potential pitfalls. Generally speaking, interested individuals should be suspicious of anything that sounds too good to be true. In fact, they should be suspicious of anything that is making them rush into a decision because that reduces the chances of them making a cool, reasoned-out choice that is in their genuine best interests. Under this light, something that sounds too good to be true is suspicious because it seems designed to encourage them to rush into a decision instead of thinking about it. Similarly, if someone is getting a lot of pressure from the representatives of a business into making a decision, that tends to be rather suspicious as well, though to be perfectly fair, it is possible that they are just pushy salespeople rather than scammers seeking to pressure consumers into making a bad decision.

Besides this, there are various other things to watch out for. For instance, a business that hasn't existed for very long time is very suspicious because they are a complete and utter unknown, meaning that it is best to look elsewhere. Likewise, if a business has no physical presence at the place that they are claiming, that is even more suspicious. Fortunately, the Internet makes it easier for people to communicate than ever before, meaning that if people are interested, they should have no problems finding more information on how to pick up on potential problems.

I had a good buying experience with Pop…

I had a good buying experience with Pop Yachts. They deftly handled many aspects of communicating with the seller, arranged personal inspections, made a recommendation for 3rd party inspection (which turned out to be very valuable), and handled the deposit and final payment, including the paper work. John Lombardi was responsive and Tracy Andersen handled all of my closing-related questions. Initially, I wasn't sure what I was getting for the closing advocate fee but after going through the process, I think it was an appropriate fee. One area they could improve is their wiring process - Pop Yachts needs to update their wiring instructions form. I was very nervous about fraud and called their bank directly and was assured that the wiring instructions were correct, even though the form had some incorrect phone numbers and email addresses that bounced.

What an perfect transaction and very…

What an perfect transaction and very professional. I called on an advertisement I saw on the RV Trader referencing Pop Rvs and reached out to Rhonda Rydstrom, the local broker/representative. Rhonda was professional, respectful and courteous besides helpful and versed and set up a same day viewing. Meeting Rhonda and the seller was perfect and the rig exactly.what we were looking for. After asking questions, inspecting and discussing an offer I asked that Rhonda reach out after discussing the transaction and follow up with me regarding an offer. I spoke shortly thereafter with Rhonda and we agreed on the negotiated selling price and the offer was written up. Once both parties signed and confirmed moving forward I simply wired funds and was contacted by Michael Hill the.closing agent for Pop RV to discuss the escrow account and targeted closing date. Michael was also professional, knowledgeable, kind and efficient. I must say this is the first time I bought an RV or for that matter any vehicle through a broker and what a great experience. Once all of the paperwork was completed and funds wired Rhonda and Michael scheduled the pick up dare and time. Everything was finely tuned and synchronized. The day of the pick-up I met Rhonda and the seller and once my inspection was completed I called Michael who transferred the escrow funds to the seller.i also was contacted by Rusty Kline in the Management Office to ensure satisfaction and answer any additional questions etc. I must tell you I read many reviews on Pop RV and I can attest that they are real professionals in RV. Yacht and Home sales. Highly recommended! The real deal! Many Thanks to Pop RV and their amazing staff.

Thank you for the outstanding review, George! We love hearing about how our Pop Team helps people like you find and purchase the perfect RV for them and their family. We very much appreciate your kind words and will pass them along to the team. Wishing you many great adventures in your new RV!

Owner was super and did all the work

The seller was super and did all the work. She showed us the vehicle because the POPs person was sick (that person was really irrelevant to the transaction). We negotiated a price directly with the seller. The seller drove the vehicle to our home. POPs had advertised the vehicle as a 2022 and the contract listed the vehicle as a 2022. We only figured out it was a 2021 when we went to insure it after we had purchased it. Then we waited. After 30 days waiting for the title to be sent I inquired of POPS again what the hold up was. At that point someone figured out that the title was never going to get to POPS. So once again the seller took time from her day to drive to the Virginia dept of motor vehicles, purchase a copy of the title, and fedex it to us. Then the MVA in our state did not like the bill of sale that POPS had provided to us and we had to plead with them to combine the contract with the bill of sale to construct an adequate document (the erroneous year of the vehicle bothered them but the VIN number was finally deemed ok) On balance we are pleased with the actual vehicle we acqured. But thank God for a pleasant and responsible seller. No idea why I as buyer had to pay POPS $495 for their service on this transaction since the seller did all the work. The value of POPS was limited to advertising on their site and then moving the funds. The POPs closer did try to communicate but in the end just slowed the process down.

Date of experience : 01 May 2023

Hi, Ann. We are sorry that this has been an unusual sale. Rarely, banks do not comply with reasonable requests for titles. This particular bank released the lien, but did not send us a title or comply with our requests even though we had the proper documentation and legal authority to execute them. Our team worked with an awesome seller to help complete the paperwork, for which we are grateful. The paperwork that we provided is 100% legal and compliant. Most insurance companies, banks and DMVs understand that vehicles can have model years that do not exactly match the title. Yes, it sounds strange, but especially with RVs and camper vans, the chassis can be manufactured and stamped in one year and the “housing” completed the following year, causing confusion. We run into this a lot, and most titling and insurance companies see it often as well, and make accommodations as you experienced. We are glad that we were able to match you with an incredible seller to get the perfect camper van for you and your family. We wish you many great adventures ahead!

Too Good to be True!!

Too Good to be True!! I was trying to sell my boat on Facebook Market Place and Boat Trader with no luck. Pop Yachts saw my ad and they contacted me bout representing my boat and acting as an agent. They said they would do all the work, take pictures and advertise it on a number of boating sites. They charged a very reasonable commission and I would only have to pay it if they secured a buyer. I could still sell the boat on my own and would not have to pay commissions. At first, I thought this was too good to be true but after reading some reviews, I gave them a try. They Sent out Phil Shelp to photograph the boat and create the listing. Phil knew stuff about my boat that I did not even know. He was very helpful and I immediately started getting interest in the boat. Within 5 weeks I had 2 offers at my asking price. They guided me through the entire process and helped the buyer secure a surveyor and schedule the sea trial. The buyer was from out of country, and they assigned a bilingualclosing agent, Tony Gomez. He was excellent and extremely helpful; we could not have gone to closing without him. The entire process, form the time they first contacted me to the closing date took less than 2 months. I would highly recommend Pop Yachts to anyone trying to sell a boat.

Misrepresented listing cost me 8hrs of travel!

First line of the ad states "Hatteras quality Ready to Fish". We sheduled an 8 hr round trip to see a boat that is "Ready to Fish", however it's not even able to leave it's slip!! When we arrive for our showing, we were told by the owner that boat hasn't moved in quite sometime and cant get on plane due to the extensive growth on the hull. He informed us that it will cost 3k to get the hull cleaned before the boat can be driven. The growth is clearly visible from the dock, which tells me the broker chose to take liberty with his listing details or is completely negligent in his job that he didnt look at the boat. Next, we were informed that neither the Raymarine navigation nor the auto piltot work. The generator doesnt work, wash down doesnt work, and the windlass "might" work. Then, the icing on the cake was that the boat's steering doesnt work!! When a fishing boat cant be moved from its slip, IT'S NOT "READY TO FISH"! So to recap: the hull is too crusty to run, the Raymarine navigation doesnt work, the generator doesnt work, wash down doesnt work, the windlass 'might' work, and the boat DOES NOT STEER. That is far from "Ready to Fish". I will be pursuing furter action to ensure companies like this are held to account when they are negligent, incompetent, or just flat out falsify listings. It is their responsibility, as the broker, to ensure their listing is accurate. You can not make a statement such as "Ready to Fish" when a vessel cant even be moved from its slip! When the listing agent can spend enough time to take 138 photos, it is reasonable to believe that they had time to look at the hull, or even simply ask something as important as "Does the boat steer?" The listing agent's neglect, or false advertising, cost me over $1,200 in time and travel cost that I intend to bill Pop Yachts for.

Date of experience : 27 June 2022

Captain Bob, we appreciate your feedback on the 1987 Hatteras. Pop strives to accurately present each vessel through photos, specs, and narrative. Each seller approves the advertisement as a correct representation of their vessel. A member of our leadership team will be in touch. Thank you.

Highly Recommend the Pop's Team

Kim, Tracy, and Kevin were very professional, timely, and available for any questions or concerns I had. Never really had a concern, as I was comfortable throughout the entire process. BOAT THAT WILL NOT FLOAT BY POPYACHTS

BOAT THAT WILL NOT FLOAT BY POPYACHTS. They sent me a boat that would not float. Plus there was dry rot in engine compartment. Over $10k to fix. I bought a working boat. These people are involved in internet fraud. Corey is the salesman and will not do anything. They had some guy from home office call and explained to me I had nothing to stand on. They are thieves. If anyone has any idea of how to get my money back please respond. I tried to put my email but the system didn't allow. I would think when you list a boat you woulfd make sure it works. And your rep said you do. Your rep arranged for an inspection and everything was given OK. Over and over I asked them to put in water. Well that must not have happened. THE BOAT IS NOT THE BOAT I BOUGHT! YOU PEOPLE ARE BAD BAD BAD. YOU WILL GET YOUR REWARD! THE BOAT HOLDS WATER. IT IS SOPPOSE TO FLOAT ON TOP OF THE WATER.

Hi Bill, we are a For Sale By Owner marketing platform. We work with our sellers to ensure that our listings are as accurate as possible and encourage all buyers to personally view the boat get an inspection prior to purchase. We are glad that you had a professional inspection done. Any such issues should have been identified during that inspection. It is not uncommon for buyers to back out of a purchase after the results of a thorough inspection, and our process allows for that after an offer has been made and accepted. You gave us authorization to pay the seller and purchase the boat based on that inspection and we completed that transaction between you and the seller. You signed an Acceptance of Vessel Agreement on April 7, 2023 agreeing that you personally hired an inspector of your choice and that this was an as is purchase. We are a professional organization with thousands of satisfied, repeat customers since 2009.

This company pretended to have an RC to sell but failed to provide any support for me as a buyer. They managed to get my bank account and money but I couldn’t close on the deal. Some kind of scam. I’m not sure what. RUN AWAY from POP rv

Susan, it was our pleasure to assist with your purchase of the classic Airstream. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify that every RV listed for sale by Pop is real and backed by an active marketing agreement with the seller. You initially inquired about the Excella on October 10. We quickly scheduled a showing for October 11. By October 13 you had a signed agreement with the seller with a closing date of October 28. On October 21, you spoke with a third-party RV inspector. On October 26, you advised that you'd like to postpone closing a week so you could have the RV serviced and tires changed on October 30 or 31. The seller declined this unusual proposal. On October 28, you initiated a transfer of funds to Pop via secure wire and closed on schedule. (Pop never draws funds from any buyer's account.) You wanted to pick up the trailer at noon on October 30. We confirmed all those arrangements with the seller, and you took delivery of the Excella in the time frame requested. All closing documents, including the title, were sent to you via FedEx on November 1. All the best in your new adventures aboard this beautifully restored Airstream!

It was great working with pop yachts on this sale. This is my second purchase with pop yachts. The team at pop yachts are great. There is not one thing about about this sale I would change. They worked with us during all the weather problems and questions. There never was never any pressure during this sale.

My experience with the purchase of my…2019 Roadtrek Simplicity

My experience with the purchase of my Roadtrek Simplicity was absolutely awesome in every detail from the first response working with my salesman Howard to the final closing with super efficient Tracy. They walked me through every step with reassuring efficiency from the negotiations to the closing. Tracy was so knowledgeable and with superb ability completing the paperwork, all done electronically.

Thank you so much, Beverly, for taking the time to leave a 5-star review of your experience with Pop Yachts! We're pleased to hear that the purchase of your Roadtrek Simplicity was awesome in every detail, and that both Howard and Tracy were able to provide you with excellent service throughout the process. We're proud to have a team of knowledgeable and efficient professionals who are dedicated to making sure that our clients have a seamless experience. We appreciate your business and hope that you'll keep us in mind for any future RV needs. Happy camping!

Won't remove you from SPAM list

Asked numerous times to sell m RV. I said no thanks, we sold it, remove us from your list. Every day more SPAM emails about selling the RV. 100% do not recommend!!

Date of experience : 26 April 2022

Shaun, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for this unusual situation. Pop quickly processes requests to unsubscribe, and a manager will be in touch to confirm resolution.

Closing was fast and easy

Closing was fast and easy. Staff is always available when you need them as well.

Date of experience : 16 January 2024

Thank you so much for the outstanding review, Preston! We are so glad that your experience with the Pop Team was great and that we made closing fast and easy. We wish you many great adventures in your new camper!

Would not deal with them again.

I was looking at a unit and ordered an inspection. They were not up front about some issues which should have been disclosed. Too many people to deal with.

Date of experience : 26 August 2022

Susan, we appreciate your feedback. All Pop buyers have the opportunity to fully inspect any unit prior to purchase, and the deposit is fully refundable if the buyer does not wish to proceed. We sent you the refund authorization form on August 19 and again on August 24 and have not received a reply from you. A member of our leadership team will contact you quickly. Thanks.

Crooks, avoid this company. They will harass you for commissions even if they don’t sell your rv!

Date of experience : 08 March 2023

We're sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with our company. We take all feedback seriously, and we want to address your concerns. Our marketing agreement is clear on commissions and we only get paid if we sell your RV. It’s in our name Pop (Paid On Performance), which means that we are only compensated if we are successful in selling your RV. If our records indicate that a contracted seller sells to a buyer that came to them through our services, we expect to be paid the commission that the seller agreed to in the marketing agreement. We apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding, and we are happy to address any questions or concerns you may have. Please feel free to contact us directly so that we can work towards a resolution that is satisfactory for all parties involved.

Ineffectiveness Algorithmic Frustration

These are just algorithms inserted into search results that you can do yourself. They referred me to one like the one "I" found, then continued to email me insignificant ads I'd already deleted. They receive 150% of a real estate commission but do not perform any work. They sent me a pertinent advertisement but declared it to be in "good" condition and sent pictures of lots of mildew (YUCK) and deteriorated tires. The company is a disaster; computer-generated processes fund incompetent and naive buyers of YOUR cash. DO NOT LIST, DO NOT BUY!!!

A bad experience

I had hired Jeff from Bay Area to sell my boat. Jeff instead helped me help me sell my vessel ...I had a bad experience, and I wasted my time for nearly a year with this business I would not suggest. Do your advertising and avoid wasting your time.

Easy experience

A simple and easy experience. Loren was an absolute pleasure working with me from my initial inquiry through the closing. Sellers were beneficial, and the boat was in perfect in excellent condition.

Poor compared to the reach

Garbage. The "We add our commission on top" technique is attractive. However, it's not practical in reality. Beware of this sales gimmick. This artificially high price discourages buyers from making a deal they would generally consider at the average (non-POP) cost. If they decide to submit an offer, POP would still be looking for their share of the commission, and therefore sellers are left with the burden of paying. I've had the pleasure of dealing with several POP agents and reps; they're incredibly shady and misleading. Another thing they won't inform you of is that they don't promote on YachtWorld. They have a website, which is poor compared to the reach of listings on YachtWorld.

It was a pleasant experience

Angie and Lauren from Pop Yachts are 15 out of 10! Both went the extra mile to aid me in my decision-making process and concluded the transaction smoothly with the appropriate amount of accurate and timely details. It was a pleasant experience.

I'm very disappointed.

I have a long tale and lots of running around. Then, when I declared that I wanted to inspect the boat in the event of potential purchase consideration, I was informed that the ship was under contract. WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL ME THE BOAT WAS UNDER CONTRACT IN THE FIRST PLACE? I'm very disappointed.

The second salesperson was excellent

In the final analysis, using Pop Yachts worked well - they assisted in the identification of a buyer who was worthy and negotiated the price and was highly efficient in executing to close the deal. However, the initial salesperson I worked with over nine months was inconsistent, not a good communicator for prospects, and was generally ineffective. The second salesperson was excellent and completed the sale in just a few months.

Overall, the experience was poor all around.

The sales rep (buyer agent) was not quick to respond to emails and would often forget the attachment to his email claimed was attached. Invitations to visit and try the boat showed the boat's location in the incorrect marina. This was not noted by the POP Rep on-site in two instances. POP did not influence the vendor since it took about a month to complete the transaction, even though my funds were in escrow. Overall, the experience was poor all around.

This is a prank. BEWARE!

I put my boat up for sale on different websites. Pop called me asking me to allow them to post it too. After the first week, nobody came to the event to take pictures. I was again contacted one week later and told that their "best guy" would reach out. In the meantime, I'm heading back to the north, and I've already placed the boat in storage. I'm still receiving emails even after requesting that they take my name off their list of contacts, and one of them acknowledged it. BEWARE! ! This is a prank.

The buyer must be aware

Send an "alternate" list of overpriced boats. Two times, the boats advertised were sold. A second offer was made but not accepted by the buyer because it appeared to be "too low." There are a lot of comments on forums for boating that say brokers usually write reviews, and the buyer must be knowledgeable. They must provide all requests, and the buyer must know market conditions.

Great people.

Pop Yachts did a very great job with my experience in purchasing. There was only one issue: nobody at the dock the day I went to look around and pick the yacht up. The company claims that this happened on a Saturday, so I suppose it was expected since they didn't have an agent in the region. Concerning everything else, as far as the purchase was concerned, they dealt with everything swiftly and professionally. I was grateful for their assistance with this purchase. The people I spoke to were highly knowledgeable. I got the documents, and it appears that everything is in order. Great people.

At first, I wasn't sure about the need to work with an agent

At first, I wasn't sure about the need to work with an agent. But when the procedure progressed, I was happy to be able to POP and Scott to my side. The process went smoothly, and I am now a lovely vessel's proud owner wife and I was both sad when our 28-foot Bayliner was destroyed in a storm that was not named that had winds of 80 MPH. However, we are delighted to have a new 28-foot Sea-Ray and are looking towards the coming boating season.

My calls, messages, and emails were not answered promptly

My calls, messages, and emails were not answered promptly—prolonged communication. The salesperson was extremely friendly. However, I'm not looking to make friends. I'm looking to purchase a boat, and things went down quite quickly online while waiting for my phone calls, messages, or emails to be answered. I didn't get a second vessel. Sorry if this sounds like quite a harsh critique, but that's how things went.

A few days wasted

As a seller, I'd never list a boat on POP Yachts again. I'm sure that buyers have the same thing. The process took five times longer and did not materialize. They repeatedly asked for an extension of the agreement, with the possibility of verifying the buyer's funds. 4.5 months later, I chose to cancel my listing. A few days wasted, Do yourself a favor and join a different company!

Advertising is not up to scratch!

Advertising is not up to scratch! The chaparral 260ssi from 2002 has 276 hours and 827 !! (i have evidence) After spending a lot of money (a thousand to a few thousand) and agreeing to a price, they go away and don't seem to care about their loss as buyers. They are also opposed to communication because they're at fault. They are just trying to sell, earn their commission, and don't care about other things. Avoid them!!

Would need to complete the paperwork on my own

Pop Yachts was outstanding at helping us pick the right boat. But, the closing of the transaction took two months to complete. I still don't have my license to register the vessel under my name. It was a constant call to inquire with all the girls at the office the same questions, day in and day out. In the end, I'd probably hire them again, but I would need to complete the paperwork independently.

It was extremely smooth

As a buyer, I experienced no problems dealing with the POP Yachts... the only reason I didn't give them five stars is that the title transfer can take a little longer than purchasing directly through the dealer. The overall experience for me was easy, Ana did a great job coordinating the closing process, and Ty was fantastic. I was a bit concerned about working with a broker after reading all the negative reviews. However, it was extremely smooth...again as a purchaser, not a seller; it'll be a different experience.

We're enjoying using the new vessel!

We have been looking for an exact boat for a long time, and Pop is a reliable source for the Florida market for ships effectively. Paul, our Pop Yachts contact, was accommodating in bridging crucial communications between the seller and us. We found the vessel of interest on the web and inquired about it; Paul contacted me promptly and was extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and supported by a top Pop team to ensure that things went as smoothly as possible. We're enjoying using the new vessel!

Brain dead to handle

Brain dead to handle. I asked for the bare minimum information on an offer ( multiple times ), but no follow-up. The seller was a petty one who listed with them! The boat is not sold, and I cannot even have someone answer my basic questions regarding the ship. They continue to send me additional listings to check out despite my request to stop. This is a terrible company!

This could be the most unprofessional broker

This could be the most unprofessional broker I've dealt with. They send numerous emails that are confused often and cancel appointments frequently. Also, I schedule appointments for times that they've informed me there's no time. Four (4) weeks of requesting to visit five (5) "vessels," I haven't seen any. The only appointment that wasn't canceled was that the representative wasn't located at the contact number I was given.

I wouldn't recommend using them.

I would if I had the option of rating lower than one star. They lack integrity in the eyes of the buyer. A single agent covers an extensive territory and represents many buyers. They could be in a similar boat. The agent's job is to represent you as a buyer. However, they will take a long time to position you as they wait for new offers. They don't update you, and you must follow them constantly. I wouldn't recommend using them.

The sales Rep was not knowledgeable or willing to complete the legwork

The sales Rep was not knowledgeable or willing to complete the legwork. She kept accusing the owner of not responding or providing him with the information I was looking for. It was very shady to share the owner's knowledge. When I finally got the owner's phone number, I found him friendly and eager to answer my questions. I explained my situation, and he claimed to have never been asked about any issues I'd asked the agent about. I would have opted for a different broker if I was not looking for the boat they had advertised. Positively the closing coordinator and office staff were easy to work with professionally. I believe that the salesperson should be working on a used vehicle lot.

If I could only give zero start

If I could only give zero stars, I'd do it. Jack Osteen kept harassing me to get my boat sold through his text messages and continued to harass me, even after I asked him to stop. It eventually to the point that I became angry. I wouldn't offer my business to someone such as that. No, stop texting means that you stop texting. It isn't a requirement to continue messaging to gain your desired outcome. I have a screenshot of his number and his name to demonstrate it.

Don't believe the information they give you.

Please don't believe the information they give you. Get it down in writing first. Put it all down in writing. And there are too many net numbers around. Please look at the figures before weighing anything, or else it will be ( but don't forget things ). Make a list of your possessions and boat toys, or else they could disappear. Chips can be traded on you as well. Review all your possessions and do not listen to their advice about them. It's a fine thing.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be using POP Yachts when searching for a new boat.

The salesperson was there at the right time to take excellent photos. His follow-up calls were terrific when there was a potential buyer. When I had a strong proposal, and it was time to present the boat and show it, the salesperson didn't lead to the ship. I showed him the boat, performed the demo, and sold myself. I received a text from him 45 minutes into the demonstration, and he told me that he had overslept. This is not working, in my opinion. Nisha was fantastic in executing the closing. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be using POP Yachts when searching for a new boat.

I enjoyed working with

Mark Eleffsen was one of the top salesmen I enjoyed working with. He always replied promptly to my way and was never in a hurry to make the sale. The finance department was a bit sloppy in my situation because there was much communication. It took them nearly two months to prepare the paperwork and send me the boat's title.

Pop Yachts did a good job

Pop Yachts did an excellent job putting my boat up on their website, but all of the work was entirely for the buyer. With a commission of $2500, I would have preferred somebody from the company to take care of some personal things, such as meeting the surveyor and potential buyers. The closing documents had an incorrect address that they rectified. My broker did not contact me following the selling of the boat to express congratulations or even a thank you.

Capt. Mark is the most professional

Capt. Mark is the most professional. I've worked with him for nearly one year to find my boat. He was on hand at night or day to answer my questions. I highly recommend Mark! I had a challenging closing that was plagued by numerous problems. It took me months to sort out with little or any assistance from pop boats. I was even paid a fee for closing. The seller promised me a lot of things that no one was able to keep up with.

He dropped Popyachts after three months.

We only had one show in six months. Our rep was ignorant of boats. She was on the dock and demanded: "the captain" (the owner) show us her craft! Communication was poor and slow all over all levels. Many Popyacht executives and representatives seemed like they were smug or overly defensive. Contract changes took a long time to complete. The rep supervisor's emails or the main office did not get a response. We needed to contact them multiple times to end the contract. Pop yachts claimed that they didn't cost us any amount. They cost us the top-selling season. Our slip neighbor was more thoughtful. He dropped Popyachts after three months.

They don't have any knowledge of the boats they offer

They don't have any knowledge of the boats they offer. They contact people who have added to them and then switch it to pop yachts. They don't know what they're selling and are knowingly misleading about the boat. I drove 3/12 hours to view a ship advertised as having 500 hours on motors. When I looked at the gauges, they indicated 1950 hours. The broker I had contact with was Mike Powell down in south Florida. Do not get involved with this person or Jenny Hays.

Bradley Vincent of Pop Yachts was a great help

Bradley Vincent of Pop Yachts was a great help with the boat I was considering. The deal was concluded until the lender made a mistake. Sorry that it didn't occur, but I'll be in contact with Bradley shortly.

Communtication and Knowledge Problems

The representative for the region. I purchased a boat through Pop Yachts, and at the beginning, everything seemed satisfactory. They told me to reach out to the agent listing the ship to make an appointment to visit the vessel. It worked, but then it became apparent that the agent representing the listing was entirely on the seller's side. There was no representation on my side, which will never happen again. The problem began because the agent listing Pop Yachts was not on the same page with the office. He would say something, and his counterpart at the Pop Yacht office would tell me something completely different. The pace of things slowed down at the time of closing the same way I did. I was required to make 99 percent of my phone calls to discover what was going on, as they were too busy to respond to calls. I'm going to reconsider using Pop Yachts in the future.

The article is unlikely to be released

I am currently searching for a diesel-powered pusher, and whenever I see an RV with a pop as the seller, I look. The article is unlikely to be released, but if for any reason, I'd recommend staying clear of them. These salespeople for used cars are among the most difficult to handle. They were meant to be an exciting experience and transformed into a total failure. If you're either a buyer or seller, avoid them.

All in all, I'm satisfied with the service offered by POP!

All in all, I'm satisfied with the service offered by POP! I found myself in a situation where I didn't have enough time to market my RV myself, and I needed to relocate it within some time. The POP team did an excellent job marketing the RV and managing the closing process. It cost me a small amount of money. However, it removed the majority of the stress of selling from me. I can also tell you from experience that the buyer was pleased with the result and POP. POP transaction.

Don't waste time!

We listed our boat in July. Our salesperson informed us that our ship was supposed to be listed at a much higher price than the amount we started at. She told us that she would sell it in two weeks at this price. We are just before the end of October, and after two price drops to $10,000, we have decided to end our contract. Many promises, but no results! Don't waste time! Nobody has ever stepped foot on our boat.

This is an unending nightmare that will never be over.

I was sold a boat with an unpaid title that was not cleared. There were leins due to the seller's delinquent property taxes. I've been unable to transfer the ownership or obtain a correct registration because of this lapse in judgment. This has led to thousands of dollars in fines by the licensing department. I think a brokerage should verify all information on the property they represent. This is an unending nightmare that will never be over.

Title and registration nightmare

Excellent experience for my wife and me. It has become a nightmare for the losing team. The sales representative and Closing associate responded to every question we asked, and emails were replied to within under 24 hours. The biggest problem was the title and registration documents we paid Pop Yachts to complete. The papers took almost an entire month to finish, and sure of our records were not properly filed. We needed to mail them new documents nearly a month after the sale. It is recommended to purchase your boat via Pop Yachts for safety. However, ithandlinghe the title and registration papers in case you wish to have them completed within the timeframe you want them to be. is recommended

It's a disaster!

They offered me a boat and a trailer, but the title is not clear or transferable on the trailer. It's a disaster! I've spent more than 1 1/2 years trying to resolve this issue (Covid issues had an impact). The Lien Holder has not responded as they cannot obtain an identification Tag for the trailer and cannot contact PopYachts. I suggest you avoid Gary Lochte, the Broker.

Absolutely the worst business ethics I've seen.

The brokerage played on the widow's feelings and sold the boat for 50% of its fair market value. The commissions they paid were over 40% of the amount Sellar got. If you're selling, be aware that these individuals only care for themselves and make their money without consideration for the interests of the boat owner. In any other profession, they'd be in jail! The worst business ethics I've seen.

It was a complete wasted time watching the market fall in value!

I sold my boat through Pop Yachts and had an awful experience with the agent who listed my boat. It was a completelysted time watching the market fall in value! I received more than forty "buyer registration, and nobody saw them. The listing agent did not respond to my emails to their supervisor.

The experience was beyond

The experience was beyond our expectations right from the start with the initial inquiry on the process of creating an offer to purchase our boat. Each time I called for help, they answered the phone and acknowledged my name. My salesperson Jim Spicer was very responsive and did a great job taking the pictures and videos on my vessel. The person who purchased my boat told me they believed it was my video which had the most influential factor in her decision to visit the boat in person and ultimately buy our boat. John Lombardi made the process more accessible of the buyer's offer and the final sale agreement. Not to mention, Christine Harrower, our closing advocate, did an excellent job in ensuring we had the proper documents to fill out and provided precise instructions on what documents to send her daily updates to us every day on the progress of closing. I recommend this business to anyone interested in buying or selling an RV or boat.

Extremely knowledgeable and friendly

I've never heard of Pop Yachts before but was advised by one of my friends.

They were extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

Their assistance will allow you to gain access to a wider market.

The process is simple and fast.

They manage the majority of customer interactions and only send valid offers to me for attention.

It was worth every cent.

My experience as a buyer with POP…

My experience as a buyer with POP Yachts was excellent. Right from the beginning, response time was quick, professional and always polite. Tom is awesome as a Sales Rep and answered our many questions along with the seller. Rusty always kept us on track during the buying process and made our closing easy. A shout out to Anthony that kept an eye ball on things. Thank you all. We successfully made our 9 day journey from Essex, MD to our home port in Harpswell, ME in a wonderful boat.

Pop make be a good company but totally inflexible with their agreements and terms, and I get NO say so. Can't do business that way. And, I'm not fond of the way they mark up the product above my asking price. Buyer's beware. ======= Edit in response to POPs response below (no name guy).... When I want to sell my boat, I want TOP dollars not the lowers. Also, seems that POP takes my price and raises it to make their profit, which I find questionable, and for that reason would NEVER be a buyer of a POP listing. Thanks, but think I'll stay with the reputable brokerages. ===== Edit in response to second message: No one expects someone to work for nothing, but everyone want transparent disclosure in a deal. If you're marking up the sellers price, why, as a buyer, would I want to do business with you? As a seller, I have NO issue paying a sales broker to sell my boat or whatever. Use them all the time. But as a seller I pay my broker for services rendered, not the buyers. BTW, after I listed my boat forsale, I called 5 POP brokers about my next boat and have yet to get a response! My boat sold within a week. Need I say more.

Unfortunately, we can’t be too flexible when it comes to modifying input agreement or our processes for selling boats. In order to sell boats efficiently (for far less $$ than traditional brokerages), we need to have a set of processes that we know work and that we always follow. Even sight modifications to the simplest of agreement terms can distract from our regimented processes. We can be much flexible when it comes to the types of boats we sell (almost all) and the types of seller situations we can support. Yes, we do need to charge for our services. Our local reps spend a lot of time and gas money supporting boat sellers in their area and they have to be compensated. It’s worth noting that, although we charge the standard 10% that almost every broker charges, we sell boats are far lower price ranges ($15,000) than traditional brokerages, which means we receive much less money on average for completing successful transactions. We are sincerely sorry our services and our price weren’t a match for you and you decided not to sign up. We wish you the best getting your boat sold.

Mike and Rusty were great

Mike and Rusty were great! It was less than 48 hours from first contact to taking possession, and this is 300 miles away. Thanks so much!

Miss advertising

Miss advertising! A 2002 chaparral 260ssi they have indicating 276 hrs and it has 827 !!! (i have proof) After spending a ton of money (thousand range) and agreeing to price, they simply walk away and don’t care about the loss as a buyer. They also avoid communication as they are in fault. They simply want to sell, make their commission and simply don’t care about anything else. Stay away!!!

Jessica Smith and closing the deal... Many can make the deal happen, some can close a deal, but not everyone can close a deal painlessly...Jessica Smith is without a doubt the best at closing the deal! This is my second experience with Pops Yachts and with Jessica performing my closing. Their exceptional performance in general, and Jessica's performance specifically have convinced me that I will use Pops Yachts for my next boat purchase. The Pops Yachts team is professional, courteous, trustworthy and experienced. They know what it takes to buy or sell boats.

What a great vote of confidence from a repeat customer! It's an honor to have represented you as both a buyer and a seller. Jessica is certainly a master at her craft, and the POP Yachts team is proud that she has represented our closing department in over 500 transactions. As you've noticed during your two experiences, POP Yachts operates as a team of professionals, rather than a single broker, so that we exceed our customers' expectations. Our smooth processes create a winning outcome for everyone. Thanks again for making POP Yachts a habit!

James Schwartz [PopYachts] ..a "Patriot" ..you'll be lucky to work with him !!!!

James Schwartz [PopYachts] worked hard and diligently to sell my boat.... He barely had it listed 2 weeks when I sold it myself... NO ONE at popyachts "whined" about putting in effort and time... with no reward.... EVERYONE at PopYachts was completely gracious.... & sincerely wished me well with a congratulatory attitude... I came away with a sense of this being that "rare" ethical company who is SERIOUS about efficient performance... transparent with "no nonsense" ..... James Schwartz is a "patriot" ... GREAT to work with ... Cary Samara ... Edmond OK

Welcome to the POP Yachts family! We hope you're enjoying your Bayliner and making some happy memories. In your transaction, your broker brought our National Sales Manager in to assist with your offer. Our Deal Manager walked you through the seller's counteroffer, and one of our Senior Closing Coordinators completed the many documents required for closing your sale and filing the USCG transfer. Everett, Lawrence, Scott and Lauren all truly enjoyed helping you become a boat owner. POP Yachts operates as a team of professionals, rather than a single broker, so that we can exceed our customers' expectations. As each transaction progresses from listing to sales to closing, our specialists professionally and efficiently handle the details of their unique tasks. We are proud that this level of expert service typically creates a very positive experience for both buyers and sellers. Thanks for the opportunity to match you with this stylish Cruiser. We would be delighted to represent you again, as either buyer or seller. Until then, fair winds and calm seas.

Great communications and follow up.

Wild Water: test driving Dominator’s 10m drama queen

Wild Water: test driving Dominator’s 10m drama queen

Dominator Yachts ' new breed of boat is a superyacht in sheep’s clothing, says Katia Damborsky …

I’m enjoying the final dish of an elaborate seven-course candlelit meal in Porto Novi, Montenegro’s luxury marina and resort, when a hush falls over the tables and our attention is diverted to the water. Suspenseful music fills the warm air and a trio of dancers with lit torches begin to perform a fire dance to a backdrop of flashing lights and giant sparklers.

Dominator’s new 10.5-metre Midi Ilumen M35 glides into view with another dancer poised on the prow and a projection screened onto the side of the hull. This is the reason I am here in Montenegro, but this isn’t my first time seeing the boat; earlier in the day it was revealed in a similarly dramatic scenario with booming music, live violinists, and dancers bearing smoke sticks in the exclusive setting of Porto Novi’s One&Only villas.

The next day is the sea trial, and I arrive on the dock after breakfast with the cynical part of me wondering if all the fanfare is a distraction. Am I being bribed into writing nice things by fireworks, five-star hotel hotels and themed cocktails with the Dominator logo dusted into the foam? But the moment I step on board and take a proper look at Dominator’s new offering, the cynicism melts away with the realisation that the boat has the same OTT style as the big reveal.

The first thing you notice about the new Ilumen is, if you see it from a distance, it looks like a superyacht. Dominator managing partner, Angela Pernsteiner is happy with this feedback. “This is what we were aiming for,” she explains. “[Some of] our clients are accustomed to owning big yachts,” so the Ilumen 35M needs to feel like an “extension” of that. She envisions its use as a superyacht tender or as a dayboat.

The model certainly doesn’t feel out of place in the Bay of Kotor, where the sea trial is taking place. In fact, her agility makes her ideally suited to a bay like this one, where the coasts are studded with umbrella-lined beach clubs and dreamy coves. Gleaming white superyachts lumber in and out of the bay, but the Midi Ilumen 35 can gracefully dart around them, putting her 48-knot top speed to the test. I take over the wheel for a bit and we zip around, but I’m happy to give up the helm for the sunpads on the back, where I can watch the double 300hp engines leave a frothy trail in our wake.

Headquartered in Austria and constructing in Italy, Dominator traditionally builds boats between 24 and 38 metres and the new Midi Ilumen 35 is a new breed for them. The 28-metre Ilumen 28M is one of its most popular lines, and the brand has neatly transferred those elements – like the distinctive rollbar, sharp A-pillars and angular windscreen - into its latest model.

Studio Agon’s Lorenzo Berselli and NavalHEAD’s Andrea Agrusta are behind the yacht’s design and naval architecture respectively. The team didn’t let the yacht’s 10.5-metre LOA deter them from packing all the big-boat hallmarks into the Midi Ilumen 35, though. At the forward part of the boat, a sliding glass hatch leads through to a cabin that can be configured as either a berth or a saloon, with a smart glass screen that separates a head and shower. A skylight ensures the yacht lives up to the Ilumen name, and the bathroom is clad in Astana Grey marble with hints of orange that tie into the yacht’s orange theme.

On the port side of the cabin is the galley set-up which, remarkably, manages to contain a covered sink, coffee maker, storage space and counter space for basic cooking and food prep. “I have sailing yacht experience,” says Agrusta when I marvel at how much has been packed into this tight footprint. In his mind, every yachting project that he works on should be treated with the same approach to quality, design and amenities. “It’s about how you use the cards that you have on the table,” he explains. “We’re not inventing something new here”.

Up on the deck, the superyacht-y ethos continues with wireless charging pads that blend into the teak and a cleverly integrated barbecue and ice-maker that pop up from below inconspicuous seats. Eight people can be seated around the cockpit dining area, with the table equipped with a rise-and-fall mechanism meaning it can be tucked away to create a more open area.

As we glide around the bay,  Pernsteiner takes the wheel for a little bit. "This level of quality is uncommon in this size segment," she tells me. "In this niche, there are no competitors".  She angles the wheel and we arc effortlessly around a passing superyacht that measures four times the size of the Midi Ilumen M35. This, Pernsteiner says, with a gesture of her arm, is the competition.

LOA: 10.5m Beam: 3.2m Draught: 0.77m Engines: 2 x Sterndrive Aquamatic 300hp (Diesel) , Volvo Penta D4 300A-G / 2x Sterndrive Aquamatic 430hp (Gazoline),Volvo Penta V8 430 - DPS Speed (max/cruise): 27-45 knots depending on engines Fuel capacity: 600l

Mitski Is a Mesmerizing Study in Movement, and in Pedal-Steel Pop, at L.A.’s Shrine: Concert Review

  • Mitski Is a Mesmerizing Study in Movement, and in Pedal-Steel Pop, at L.A.’s Shrine: Concert Review 2 days ago

Mitski at the Mitski concert held at Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall on March 30, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

Mitski is such a cerebral record-maker that I didn’t expect to be coming away from her 2024 shows making proclamations that I might have just seen the best- choreographed tour of the year. But it’s true: Her run of three shows at L.A.’s Shine Auditorium was the kind of unexpected, advanced study in movement that couldn’t possibly be guessed just from listening to her records — the latest and best of which was last year’s pretty heady “The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We.”

Not that the 2024 Mitski setlist wouldn’t still come off just fine if she presented it in a more or less still-life format. This latest album is a departure for her, with music that feels big and orchestrated, a little bit classic-country, and fairly reverb-y, in what adds up to slightly spooky beauty. The songs sounds like they were meant to be played at the “Twin Peaks” roadhouse bar or, barring that un-reality, then in a really huge room, where the sound can bounce around a little and you aren’t quite close enough to crack the code of her stony facial expressions. The Shrine (where years ago she’d played the side Expo Hall, before moving up to the big room) felt like a perfect place to hear something this quietly magisterial and kind of old-school.

That rapt attention and appreciation didn’t seem at all mitigated, or Mitski-gated (sorry), by the fact that the singer sometimes delivered the oldies a little bit differently than they might have been expecting. That is to say, some of the material longtime fans are most familiar with was rearranged to skew closer to the style, or styles, of “The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We.” Its genre could be described as modern Americana meets the ghost signal of a clear-channel megawatt station from the 1950s or ’60s. When I first heard the album, my thought was that I was so happy she’d ditched the producer of her previous album, 2022’s synth-poppy “Laurel Hell,” for some new genius; the punchline, of course, is that it’s the same guy, Patrick Hyland, as it almost always is. The two of them seem inhospitable to stasis, so they’ll probably switch it up again for the next album. But while they’re touring behind this one — with Hyland as her musical director as well as guitarist, naturally — they’re letting things cohere a little while they’re in this rich vein, while not being completely resisting having some of the “hits” be as indie or synthy as they always were in her catalog. It’s an ideal balance all around.

The extent to which they’re having fun with some of the rearrangements is best found in Mitski’s new take on “I Don’t Smoke,” a 10-year-old chestnut. If you look at some setlists, fans have marked it down as “I Don’t Smoke (Folk Version).” Well, no. It’s more like “I Don’t Smoke (Hoedown Version)” — far more determinedly country than anything on her latest album (or on Beyonce’s). That’s a big outlier in the set, but a welcome one. Plenty of other moments rely on Mitski’s Patsy Cline inclinations to a far subtler degree, although the amount of pedal steel, fiddle and accordion played by Nashville alt-country veteran Fats Kaplan, the ace in her seven-piece band, is telltale about where this round of influences lies. And if you don’t like the countrypolitan touches? No problem — there’s still a lot of familiarity in this set for any returning fans, whether she’s getting synthy early on with “Working for the Knife” or reviving her more twee rocker mode to close out the encore with “Washing Machine Heart.”

For the rest of the night, once the curtain is gone, the singer stays on a round, slightly elevated platform at center stage, where her props consist of… two wooden chairs, fitfully employed when she needs something to lie down and lean against, or stand atop like she might be jumping off a building. The second number, “Buffalo Replaced,” had her going through the robotic motions of alternately hiding her eyes with both hands and putting them out as a stop signal, something she maintained even during a long, awkward pause between songs and into the beginning of the next one, “Working for the Knife.” Suddenly, in that one, she dropped the peekaboo routine and was all about graceful fluidity, or the occasional go-go-girl pose. At one point she turned her back to the audience and let her hands, wrists and arms form wavelike motions, kind of like the dancer in Bob Fosse’s “The Aloof” number in “Sweet Charity.”

Much later, and much less gracefully, Mitski was down on all fours for, appropriately, the crowd favorite “I Bet on Losing Dogs.” When a performance can make you think of David Byrne, Roy Orbison, Bob Fosse and dog-man Iggy Pop, it’s obviously doing something right.

And this is before getting to the two most interestingly staged moments in the show. In her Billboard Hot 100 hit “My Love Mine All Mine” and on through to “Last Words of a Shooting Star,” shards of something — faux plexiglass? — descended on strings from the top of the stage on down to her platform, then dangled there for a while before finally ascending, one by one, as her touch commanded them to arise. Were we to take these jagged edges as a form of danger that could be commandeered only by the awesome psychic powers of Mitski… or beauty in brokenness… or just nifty-looking stagecraft in a show that otherwise dispenses with it? Probably 6,000 different 15-to-25-agers at the Shrine held 6,000 different interpretations, and the scattered old folks, too, but we were all taken with it.

But “Heaven” offered the sweetest moment, when Mitski danced, arm in arm (sort of), with the white beam of an overhead followspot. That’s probably not as easily choreographed as it looks. (What was it they said about Ginger Rogers, that she did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in heels? Mitski did everything the spotlight did, but backwards and comprised of physical matter.)

And she did. No, it assuredly wasn’t a concert designed to wrap up her adoring hordes in warm fuzzies. But as a highly theatrical show that still maintained the sense of a real, cool, warm person animating all that minimalist artifice, it ironically felt kind of… could this be the right word?… hospitable.

20 year search has ended.

This has been a long overdue dream to own a vintage Criscraft, let along a 1930’s!!! My prior attempts have failed over a 20 year period. Pops team was absolutely exceptional during this great experience. Informative when needed, supportive when I didn’t know what to do. There patience and great skills help me make a calculated decision. I couldn’t be more pleased. Thanks to the entire Pops team.

Professional and trustworthy experience

Pop Yachts just sold my motor yacht for me. What a very nice experience from start to finish. They do it all. From the time my sales person (Eric) met me and took pictures to the showings to the very secure and transparent closing, this is a top notch organization. They earned my respect. When I buy my next boat, I will be reaching out to Eric first call. Thx Dave R.

There were many challenges faced during my purchase of a new vessel. I'm am so glad I used POP Yachts to broker the deal. The seller was not the most trustworthy of individuals and if not for the due diligence and constant support from PopYachts my buying experience would have cost me thousands. Through it all George and Nisha were there for me through thick and thin. I highly encourage you to use PopYachts to broker any deal. It's like having an insurance plan mitigating potential loses during and after the closing process. The tide has definitely turned for the better with PopYachts. Sincerest Thanks, Chris

POP Yachts began working with you in mid-January, with activity focused on three different boats. On April 11, after numerous communications with your broker, you were ready to submit an offer on a boat. We immediately prepared the paperwork for you and walked you through the buying process. You also asked us to facilitate a conference call with the seller, potentially on Friday, April 12. No date for the call was committed, and no time was established, as the seller's availability was not yet known. The broker indicated he would contact you when the call was scheduled. Despite several attempts on April 11 and April 12, your POP Yachts broker was unable to reach the seller to schedule the call. On the afternoon of April 12, in your only incoming call to us of that day, you left a voice message stating you were no longer interested in buying the boat and would be leaving a 1-star review. Your broker was finally able to reach the seller after the weekend. You received a message on April 16 that the seller would like to speak with you. POP Yachts has been professional and responsive throughout our relationship. We are happy to have assisted you you in finding a vessel which matched your parameters. We understand your eagerness to purchase the boat and meet with the seller. We also appreciate that you went to your bank to arrange the 10% deposit which, along with your contract, would take the boat off the market while you completed your due diligence. It is unfortunate that you feel our overall attentive service warrants a 1-star review based on the unavailability of a seller on a single afternoon. We wish you the best.

Music Review: Lizzy McAlpine tells intimate folk-pop stories on her third album, ‘Older’

The opening track on folk-pop singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine’s third album , “Older,” is only one minute and 40 seconds long. In that time, “The Elevator” carries the listener into McAlpine’s internal world, climbing a steady piano melody toward a drum-led instrumental before the song meets an abrupt end — depositing the listener at the second track, but more importantly, in the thick of McAlpine’s current conundrum.

“It wasn’t slow, it happened fast,” she sings in a near-whisper, readying her heart-rendering thought. “I think we can make it; I hope that I’m right.”

The track sets the listener up for the album that follows: “Older” is a rich world for the listener to live within precisely because the songs vary in range and emotionality. Her songs tend to focus on maturation, entering and leaving relationships, learning to trust and be trusted. On “Older,” that includes navigating grief and growing older, while watching others grieve and grow older, too.

“Older” follows McAlpine’s 2021 album “Five Seconds Flat” and its viral hit “Ceilings,” McAlpine’s first entry into the Billboard Hot 100. The ballad soundtracked hundreds of thousands of social media videos, revered by fans for its cinematic telling of a (spoiler alert) imagined love story.

McAlpine, 24, evolves her visual, scene-driven songwriting on “Older” — sure to please fans of “Ceilings.”

McAlpine’s folk-pop tunes have always felt informed by musical theater styling (fitting, for a drama fan and one-time collaborator of composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul of “Dear Evan Hansen” and “La La Land” ), if mostly for her ability to infuse each song with character, as if acting.

Lyrically, she does that by referencing details — rocks thrown in water, a rejected cigarette, a crooked tie, a carousel ride — and telling blunt truths, like on “Drunk, Running,” when she admits: “I’m so sorry I stay/When I shouldn’t” atop piano.

The record is then effective when that intimacy is met with bold production that swells to meet the performer where she is at, and not in an attempt to impress. Take “Broken Glass,” which crescendos into a bridge that sees McAlpine belting above a drumbeat.

The penultimate song, “March,” is an aching but even piano-driven ode to McAlpine’s father, who died on March 13, 2020. Since his passing, she’s determined to dedicate a song in his honor on each of her projects, ideally track No. 13. Here, “March” brings reflections on grief: “Tryna find the lesson in it all but/I haven’t learned anything.” And: “I didn’t know it’d be this hard/So far away and then it hits you.”

The title track, “Older,” ends with McAlpine repeating the refrain: “I wish I knew what the end is.”

Tucked within McAlpine’s worried words is exactly what listeners look to her for: A still-confident tone, a pretty melody and reflections that only assure listeners in their own troubles.

Uncomfortable in the spotlight … Sky Ferreira performing in 2022.

Sky Ferreira review – roughed-up stadium glam from pop’s prodigal daughter

Marble Factory, Bristol Ferreira’s attitude towards fame is conflicted, but her anger and relatable brittleness only add to the cravings for her long-awaited next album

S ky Ferreira reaches for her mic stand as though she intends to kill it, holds it in a white-knuckle grip and ascends into the monster chorus of 24 Hours. Amid the song’s grinding bass and crashing synths this brief movement is magnetic in a way that it shouldn’t be – a shot of pop-star presence given extra stakes by the false starts and tortuous diversions that have led her to this point.

It has been almost 11 years since Night Time, My Time introduced the then 21-year-old Ferreira’s blend of pillowy electro-pop and dead-eyed cool. Label spats and interminable delays have made the wait for its follow-up Masochism – originally planned for release at least two years ago – into a yawning chasm. (In November, it was reported that Ferreira and her label Capitol appeared to have parted ways.) True to form, while the name of that near-mythical album is emblazoned on T-shirts at the merch table, there’s no new material debuted here. Instead, there is a punishingly loud reintroduction to songs that feel like they have been kept in suspended animation.

after newsletter promotion

Arriving on stage 45 minutes late – hanging around is part of the deal with Ferreira, it seems – her band immediately roughs up Boys with grimy, Nine Inch Nails-adjacent low end. She splits the difference between Andrew Eldritch and Debbie Harry in a leather duster and shades, beating her chest as Nobody Asked Me (If I Was Okay) surges with angst and distortion.

But there is a relatable brittleness running in parallel to her retro-chic style. You could idly take a photo at any moment during her truncated set and come away with a striking image, but it wouldn’t say as much as Ferreira asking for the spotlights to be switched off between songs, plunging the room into darkness, seemingly uncomfortable with their glare.

This tension is reflected musically, with flubs and restarts superseded by a fuzzed-out cover of ’Til Tuesday ’s cult hit Voices Carry and the neon-lit spite of 2022 single Don’t Forget , punchy stadium high-gloss that bodes well for Masochism’s eventual arrival. When the house lights come up after her 2012 breakthrough single Everything Is Embarrassing , Ferreira retreats. She waves and messes her hair, emotion rising in her throat with each snatched thank you. What comes next, only she knows.
