Qatar welcomes more than 20 superyachts for FIFA World Cup 2022

Qatar has welcomed more than 20 superyachts to its waters since the start of the FIFA World Cup 2022, according to BOAT Pro's Global Fleet Tracker .

Some of the biggest boats in the world, including the 123 metre Al Lusail , the 111 metre Lürssen Alaiya and 110 metre Feadship Anna , have pulled into Old Doha Port for the event.

The new marina in Old Doha Port was purpose-built for the FIFA World Cup and provides 60 berths for vessels between 50 and 160 metres in length with tariffs set on a first-come-first-served basis. 

Other yachts to make to journey from the Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf include SilverYachts explorer Bold and Sanlorenzo flagship Attila , the latter of which took up temporary residence in Doha's artificial island named The Pearl.

Meanwhile, a handful of vessels made their way to Qatar after attending the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix including the 104.8 metre Lady Moura and 88.5 metre Oceanco Sunrays .

The Qatari authorities appointed Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) as the exclusive port and logistics agent to manage visiting superyachts to Doha for the duration of the event.

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 began on November 20 and ends December 18.

We rented the boat on sat dec 3 and since the first contact we found good service, fast responses and flexibility. We were a group of 12 and space was just right. Qatar Tourism announces new superyacht luxury cruises to set sail from Qatar

Qatar Tourism has announced new superyacht luxury cruises in partnership with Emerald Cruises, sailing from Doha launching in January 2023.

Emerald Azzurra will offer a seven-night, eight-day itineraries from Doha, with stops at Sir Bani Yas Island, Abu Dhabi; Khasab, Oman; Fujairah, UAE; Zighy Bay, Oman; and Dubai and vice versa. 

Pre and post cruise tours are available where guests can opt for a three-day package to explore the sites and culture of Qatar. Highlights include the National Museum of Qatar, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, in the style of a desert rose; or a visit to Souq Waqif, to purchase local souvenirs and spices. Visitors can take a trip into the desert and visit the Inland Sea, before enjoying dune bashing and a camel ride.

The news comes as construction continues on the new Grand Cruise Terminal located in central Doha, near the Museum of Islamic Art and Souq Waqif. The terminal will have the capacity to host two megaships and will offer various attractions, including an aquarium and art gallery.

Chief Operating Officer of Qatar Tourism, Berthold Trenkel, said: “In line with the national strategy, Qatar National Vision 2030, we are expanding our tourism value proposition and are excited to welcome travellers from around the world to experience the best of Qatari hospitality both on sea and land. The new itineraries launching with Emerald Cruises are another step towards achieving this vision.

“Qatar has an incredible range of hotels, restaurants, activities and cultural landmarks which can be enjoyed pre and post the cruise, allowing guests the freedom to explore Qatar at their leisure. We welcome travellers from around the world to experience our beautiful country and the best of the Middle East, all in one easily accessible place.”

The superyacht, Emerald Azzurra , can accommodate 100 guests, at an impressive 110 metres in length. Guests can enjoy a Sky Bar, observation deck and lounge, wellness area, an infinity pool and marina platform which hosts several marina toys including sea bobs and paddleboards.

“The goal was to combine stylistic coherence with extra dimensions,” Rossinavi’s chief operating officer Federico Rossi said in a statement.

To that end, the superstructure was extended to create what is a huge sundeck for a vessel of this size. Spanning more than 1,500 square feet, the deck features an aft area for sunbathing, a shaded central lounge with a bar, and a splashy mini pool at the bow.

The sundeck isn’t the only draw outdoors, though. The upper deck provides seafarers with a spot for alfresco dining in all four seasons, with the aft covered by a nifty veranda that protects against the elements.

Heading to the aft, the unconventional deck arrangement creates pockets of space on different levels for specific functional needs. The staggered decks also allow the aft section to be perceived as a single open area, even though there are distinct sections. The main deck cockpit includes a dining area with sliding glass panels for protection against the elements and an outdoor living area. The latter leads to a beach area with foldable platforms and an openable aft hatch. The beach club itself is enclosed because sometimes you need a break from the sun.

Perhaps we should say Bel1 is big on style, space, and smooth sailing.

The 33m motor yacht Lusail Queen has run aground in Doha, Qatar after hitting a shallow reef. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon and so far, no serious injuries have been reported. Videos being shared on social media show people attempting to mitigate the damage.

The 33m Lusail Queen was delivered in 2013 and is one of the Majesty 105 series. It was previously named Rayyan 1.

The yacht was able to accommodate up to 10 guests in five staterooms, with a large owner’s suite, VIP suite and three twin staterooms.
