EYOS EXPERTISE

To help create the ideal globally-capable expedition yacht, EYOS Expeditions took over 150 design criteria to DAMEN shipyard. Working with DAMEN’s design team, EYOS advised on details from the hull form and bridge layout to the tender davits and Zodiac boarding arrangements.

SeaXplorer was the first yacht built to meet the new Polar Code Standards, which came into force in 2017. While her entire hull is ice-strengthened, in the most challenging ice conditions, SeaXplorer can go astern using a specially shaped icebreaking stern to break through boundaries that stop other yachts.

In tropical waters, SeaXplorer is designed for efficient access both above and below the sea.

She features dedicated space for submersibles, dive gear, and a recompression chamber, as well as dedicated storage for an array of carefully chosen tenders. Every detail is infused with knowledge gained over hundreds of expeditions.

A fully certified, enclosed helicopter hangar keeps your aircraft safe no matter where you take your yacht.

This Epic New 345-Foot Expedition Yacht Has an 8,000-Mile Range

Damen Yachting’s SeaXplorer 105 is a combination of comfort, size and serious expedition features designed into a polar-class hull. The Amels division used client feedback to create this new 345-foot concept, partnering with Azure Yacht Design and EYOS Expeditions for the fine details. This latest of the SeaXplorer line—which include 90-, 95- and 100-meter sisterships—has more than 62,000 square feet of volume across eight decks.

Size matters on this new Damen: It has two owner’s suites and accommodations for 24 guests, storage garages for two twin-engine helicopters, space for five tenders and an 8,000-mile range to cross the Pacific without having to refuel. The new design also has garage space for a submarine.

The focus of the 105’s exterior is on maximizing time in the outdoors, with a water sports center and scuba deck, along with a special embarkment point at water level for immediate access to the ocean.

The 3,229-square-foot helideck also serves double duty for large social gatherings in port, or it even works as a tennis court or half-basketball court, for pick-up games at the end of the world. Belowdecks, a weathertight double hangar with hydraulic lift system keeps both aircraft protected from the elements.

The designers focused on multi-tasking areas like the helideck and transom. The rear of the yacht is not only a huge swim platform, but also has an open bar area with upstairs lounge.

On the inside, the 105 is all about comfort. In keeping with its sisterships, the designers included a forward Observation Lounge with an outside bow deck, but supersized it to 1,324 square feet, so groups could gather to enjoy exceptional views in the evening after a day of diving or heli-skiing. The open layout, surrounded by windows on all sides, has a bar and multimedia center. The 3,000-plus square foot indoor spa is also full-featured, with a gym with foldout terrace, whirlpool, steam room, massage area, hairdresser and beauty salon. Its 26-foot-long indoor pool is heated.

The hybrid diesel-electric propulsion pods are designed to minimize emissions.

The 105 is also IMO Polar Code category B compliant for environmental protection. The hull is Polar Class 7, with the stern designed for breaking ice in fast-changing conditions. The yacht also has retractable stabilizer fins for when “growlers” are lurking beneath the surface. These truck-sized fragments of ice are hazardous to yachts with fixed fins, so the 105’s retractable fins let the boat cruise in relative safety.

“The SeaXplorer 105 is a fully developed design,” says Enrique Tintore, SeaXplorer design manager. “However, the scope for client customization is massive–that’s a key part of our proposition throughout the design process.”

Exterior Design

Featuring naval architecture and exterior design by Azure Naval Architects, La Datcha has all the elegance and grace of a classic superyacht, while her her ice-classed steel hull and rugged profile give her the form and function she needs to circumnavigate the globe. Immediately recognisable by her gloss chestnut hull, La Datcha’s expansive deck areas offer plenty of space for socialising on your yacht charter. Her main deck aft is dominated by her fully certified primary helideck. Her dynamic lines and aggressive styling only add to her majestic appearance.

Interior Design

Interior designer Vasiliy Shprits has created a wonderfully calm interior, muted shades offering a relaxing sanctuary to unwind in after a busy day exploring. Hand picked furnishings, from a shimmering table resembling an ice floe to Aztec inspired wall panelling add a unique feel to La Datcha’s grand interiors. Full height windows dominate the main saloon, observation lounge and owner’s suite and let in swathes of light, allowing you to take in the stunning views. The dedicated observation lounge, 9m above water, is particularly eye-catching, offering 270-degree forward facing views of the dramatic scenery you are bound to encounter. On the upper deck is another wonderful observation area, complete with Jacuzzi. This is the highest point on La Datcha and the ultimate place to relax as the inimitable panorama of an Arctic landscape drifts by.

Guest Accommodation

La Datcha’s interior layout sleeps up to 12 guests across six beautifully detailed cabins. 

Her jaw dropping Owner’s suite, complete with observation lounge and private deck area, is the epitome of consummate luxury. Immaculately presented, using the finest materials and detailed art pieces, it radiates calmness. 

La Datcha also features a second Owner’s suite and one VIP cabin. Equally well appointed, each cabin comes with an en-suite and a walk in wardrobe. 

Twenty-five crew members are also on hand to ensure all of your needs are tended to.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

La Datcha is almost unparalleled in the amount of tenders and toys on offer to any charterer. The two commercially certified and operated helicopters mean access to the most remote areas of the far flung corners of the earth aren’t out of reach. 

She also comes complete with two beachlander tenders, two expedition RIBs and two snow scooters, so you are equally able to access a secret sandy cove as you are a snow covered peninsula.

Even exploring the deepest depths of the world’s oceans isn’t out of the question, La Datcha comes with a three-person submersible so you can explore the secret subterranean worlds and the variety of marine life that dwell in them, all whilst keeping warm and dry!

Special Features

Being IMO Polar Code compliant, her ice-classed steel hull can venture deep into the Polar regions, and when complemented by her superb range of tenders you can get up close and personal to some of the world’s most unique creatures, from humpback whales to colonies of penguins.

Of course, if you would prefer to enjoy these majestic sights in a little more warmth and comfort, then the bow observation lounge, with 270-degree views, means you can quite happily do so.

With enhanced fuel tanks, improved garbage management system and enough provisions and facilities for 40 days of cruising without a port call La Datcha is built for long distance expeditions.

If diving is your thing La Datcha has a fully certified dive centre, along with and a huge room equipped with extensive storage space for everything from skis to wetsuits to the all weather equipment you will need when you visit some of the world’s most remote area.

Guests have no shortage of well deserved relaxation opportunities onboard La Datcha. If you have been out in the biting cold, warm up with a spell in the sauna or a steam bath or enjoy a relaxing massage in the massage room.

Two hot water Jacuzzis, including one on the yacht’s observation deck, offer more opportunities for luxuriating in stunning surroundings.

Want a little bit extra? A fully equipped gym offers sea-views to take your mind off of your workout, or for the ultimate in reinvigoration jump under the ice fountain and see how long you can stay there!

Damen Yachting lays the keel on first SeaXplorer 60

Damen Yachting has celebrated a major construction milestone as the shipyard lays the keel on its in-build SeaXplorer 60.

The yard unveiled the 60 metre addition to its SeaXplorer luxury expedition range in September 2021 and is the fourth SeaXplorer built by Damen Yachting. The laying of the keel marks the vessel's first major milestone and she is due for delivery in 2024.

SeaXplorer design manager Enrique Tintore said that the 60 metre expedition vessel is a "yacht for all seasons". "It's very exciting to be here, after all the months of detailed engineering, to see the SeaXplorer 60 beginning to take shape. It's a fantastic layout with a lot of flexibility."

British design studio H2 Yacht Design was enlisted to create the yacht's interiors. Design director Jonny Horsfield revealed that the studio drew on its experience of designing the interiors of high-profile expedition superyachts such as Andromeda , Victorious and REV to design the SeaXplorer 60.

“The functionality of an explorer yacht is quite different from a yacht used in the Mediterranean,” Horsfield explained. “It’s less about entertaining and sitting around – it’s about being on the move and living on the boat.” The result, he said, is an interior that is “more homely, more practical and more maintenance-free”.

In fact, H2 focused on drawing the client’s attention to the outside view, rather than the interior decoration.  “It’s more about what you’re looking at outside so we wanted the interior to be as simple and calming as possible.” Materials are therefore “neutral”, he said, and include the likes of satin matt wood finishing and leather for a “simple and clean” effect.

The H2 team focused on the functionality of the yacht, making sure that each space on board could be used for multiple purposes.

The observation lounge, which features “a warm, cosier and darker wood on the walls”, is a key example. This room can be used as an observation lounge in the day and turned into a snug, multimedia room or cinema at night. The 150sqm helideck too doubles up as a party deck while the covered outdoor space aft of the main deck can be used as a luxury cabana lounge and bar, dive deck, fitness and wellness zone, or even a ski lodge depending on the owner’s wishes.

Another key feature is an abundance of shelving throughout the boat to allow owners to display tokens from their travels. “The idea is that when you’re travelling, you’re collecting things so we’ve purposefully allowed for a lot of shelving so that owners can display their travels," Horsfield said. 

Elsewhere, the interior is defined by a balance of crisp, straight lines and more forgiving curves. H2 design director Gianluca Sist explained: “The straight lines are more masculine and more modern but then you have the curved lines which soften the interior.”

The 1,160GT interior features accommodation for a total of 12 guests in six cabins while the hybrid propulsion package and extensive storage will allow guests to spend up to 30 days of uninterrupted, autonomous cruising on board.

An ice-class hull, IMO Polar Code compliant engineering and exterior design penned by Azure Yacht Design rounds up the SeaXplorer 60.

The 60 metre model follows in the footsteps of the first SeaXplorer, the 62 metre Anawa , and SeaXplorer 77 La Datcha . An in-build custom 58 metre SeaXplorer is due for delivery in 2022.

Full disclosure. I love all of Damen Yachting ’s newly rebranded Xplorer line of crossover superyachts that combine all the capabilities of an expedition yacht with all the over-the-top luxury of a more conventional yacht. I love the way they dare to be just a bit different too.

According to advance reports the concept was conceived with customization in mind while offering a number of configuration options to suit any lifestyle. Xplorer Design Manager Enrique Tintore explains, “The way the Xplorer has been designed allows for a high level of flexibility to suit any extreme environment or refined landscape. If a helicopter isn’t essential for you, we’ve got many other options for that space. Need a conference room or a seventh guest cabin? Or a separate gym and a high-spec laboratory? We can make that happen.”

The configuration options include everything from a below deck helicopter hangar, and large gym and wellness center, to a massive twin tender garage setup with a fully-equipped dive center. And for many who don’t require such serious heli-ops storage capability, the large aft area can be configured into wall-to-wall lounge and beach club too.

The flexibility in the design does not stop at configuration options. For the exterior design, Damen Yachting has once again partnered with Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture to further develop the Xplorer 80’s exterior lines. But the Dutch builder has also partnered up with a number of additional exterior and interior designers to provide a unique set of alternatives centered around the same base platform. For the exterior, alternative designs have been created by Espen Øino, Harrison Eidsgaard and Azure Yacht Design.

For the interior design concepts, Damen Yachting has partnered with London-based design studio Harrison Eidsgaard. The result is a custom designed for long-term and luxurious living. Known for their quality and personal attention to detail, the Harrison Eidsgaard team has developed a Manhattan loft-inspired space that encompasses how you like to explore and experience your passions. With refined details, smart storage and a warm ambience throughout, every step you take around this yacht has been considered. "This interior can cover every journey and any lifestyle - all you need to do is immerse yourself." Ben Harrison, co-founder of Harrison Eidsgaard. Alternative interior design concepts have also been provided by Winch Design and Reymond Langton Design.

Coinciding with the introduction of the Xplorer 80, Damen Yachting have also introduced their updated and modernized branding for their range of luxury explorers. Damen Yachting’s Marketing Manager Sarah Flavell explains. “We wanted to make the original SeaXplorer branding more relevant for today’s and tomorrow’s luxurious yet adventurous yachting needs. While the DNA within the Xplorer 80 proudly carries all of the original SeaXplorer key attributes, we wanted to update the way the brand was presented to better reflect the forward-thinking nature of this new 80-metre Xplorer. The result is that the Xplorer 80 absolutely embodies the brand values associated with the Xplorer range bringing extensive capability, unrivalled autonomy and above all luxury space and lifestyle to the most extreme corners of the globe.”
