Originally christened Keri Lee III , the 181-foot superyacht was launched by U.S. shipyard Trinity Yachts in 2001 and refitted in 2016. She is reportedly worth $27 million, according to Rightboat.

That’s not the only fleet member Trinity has in the top five, either. The 161-foot Eros , known as Stay Salty IRL, claimed third spot with an estimated value of $23 million. Delivered by the U.S. yard in 2008, the vessel received a meticulous refit just before starring Below Deck Season 3 to ensure she was up to snuff.

Rounding out the top five is Feadship’s BG , or Valor in the show. Who Pays for the Below Deck Yacht? We Finally Have the Answer

The memories may be priceless, but the charters aren't.

yacht valor cost

A vacation doesn't get more luxurious than the getaways we see on Below Deck , Below Deck Mediterranean , and Below Deck Sailing Yacht . These vessels cruise around the most breathtaking locations in the world, letting the guests experience everything the diverse cultures have to offer, all while the crew fulfills their every wish and whim.

How to Watch

Watch  Below Deck on Bravo Mondays at 9/8c and next day on  Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo App .

This kind of luxury definitely doesn't look cheap — and it isn't, with the charter guests paying for everything, including that stack of cash they hand over to the captain to tip the crew, as Mark Cronin, who has been an executive producer on every season of Below Deck , Below Deck Med , and Below Deck Sailing Yacht confirmed to The Daily Dish during an interview last month. “They spend their real money to be on the show," he explained. "And then the tip they leave, they decide what it is."

Below Deck Producers Spill Behind-the-Scenes Secrets

It sounds like chartering the Below Deck yacht has been totally worth it for the charter guests who have appeared on the show, according to Courtland Cox, who has also served as executive producer on every season of Below Deck and Below Deck Med .

“They’re not people that are coming on because they feel like this is a good chance for them to get on TV. This is a great experience for them to charter a very large yacht with a very experienced and fun crew and have an amazing three-day charter in an amazing location,” he told The Daily Dish last month. “I want them to enjoy their charter and not be afraid to ask for things if they want. And I think that at the end of their charters, like, every charter guest we’ve had has said this has been an amazing experience.”

yacht valor cost

When you understand the various factors that can affect the price, you can better prepare yourself for the expense and find the best option according to your preferences and budget.

Size and Style of the Yacht : Larger yachts with more luxurious amenities and features will generally be more expensive than smaller or simpler vessels. For example, a 34 to 35-foot boat might rent for about €2,000 per week, whereas a 40-footer might rent for €3,200 per week for the same dates.

Season and Availability : Peak seasons, such as the summer months in the Mediterranean or the winter months in the Caribbean, may see increased demand and higher prices than off-season dates. Booking well in advance can help secure better rates and ensure availability.

Crew and Additional Services : A fully crewed charter with a luxury private villa or hotel room may cost around $30,000, including meals, transport, and activities. However, some charters require you to pay for these expenses separately, so it's essential to check what's included beforehand.

Location : Depending on the yacht and where you plan to sail, the charter cost may vary due to regional pricing differences and local taxes or fees. For instance, a yacht charter in the Mediterranean may have different costs than one in the Caribbean or Southeast Asia.

yacht valor cost

These costs may vary depending on the yacht you choose.

Fuel Consumption : The amount you'll spend on fuel is highly dependent on factors like the distance you travel, the yacht's fuel efficiency, and the price of diesel at the time of your charter. Keep in mind that the longer you cruise, the greater the cost of fuel.

Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) : The APA is used to cover expenses like food, beverages, port fees, and other costs that may arise during the charter. Typically, guests can accumulate an additional 25% to 50% of the base charter fee through the APA, depending on what is consumed. Remember to budget accordingly for these expenses.

Crew Gratuity : It's customary to tip the yacht's crew at the end of your charter. Tips are usually around 15% to 20% of the total real cost of the charter. This is an important aspect to keep in mind while planning your trip, as it directly impacts the crew's income.

yacht valor cost

Finding the Right Yacht : To start planning your dream yacht vacation, first browse through the available yachts featured on Below Deck, such as St. David, Honor or Lumiere, Ohana or Rhino, Eros or Stay Salty, Valor or BG, My Seanna or Starship, Parsifal III, Mercury, Thalassa or Keri Lee III, Home, Ionian Princess, Sirocco, Talisman Maiton, The Wellington, and Lady Michelle. Consider factors such as the yacht's size, amenities, and the number of guests it can accommodate.

Contact a Yacht Charter Broker or Agency : Once you've selected your preferred yacht, reach out to a reputable yacht charter broker or agency who can guide you through the booking process. They will help you with pricing details and availability for your desired dates. Remember that the cost will vary depending on the yacht, the length of your stay, and other additional expenses.

Review and Customize Your Itinerary : Work with your charter broker to create a tailored itinerary that suits your preferences and interests. They will help you plan the perfect destinations, activities, and menu for your 3-day charter. Make sure to communicate any specific needs or requests during this stage, such as dietary restrictions or any celebratory events that may be taking place during your trip.

Sign Contract and Make Payment : Once you are satisfied with your itinerary and pricing, your charter broker will provide you with a contract outlining the terms and conditions of your yacht charter. Review the contract carefully, sign it, and then make the necessary payments according to the payment schedule mentioned in the agreement. Keep in mind that your broker may require a deposit to secure your booking and that the final payment may be due several weeks before your departure.

The Luxury Of 'Below Deck's New Yacht Is Costly

yacht valor cost

Another season of Below Deck , another opportunity to imagine what it would be like to have a yacht of your very own. This season's ship may be the most luxurious yet, so out of curiosity, how much would it cost to buy Valor? Buying a yacht of any size, shape, type, or quality is probably out of range for most people — let alone one like Valor, but hey, it's always fun to imagine, right? Saving up in order to buy a superyacht may be an unattainable goal, but it's pretty harmless, like hoping to be on the shortlist for Fashion Week invitations or dreaming of owning a professional basketball team. Or, maybe it's not a goal and you just love finding out how much stuff costs. Either way, because yachts seem to frequently change hands, there is some reliable information out there about how much the Valor costs.

The yacht can be booked through Burgess Yachts, and according to company, the asking price for the BG/Valor is $11,990,000. Now that's fun and reasonable: just $12 million for your very own boat/TV filming location! While the price is certainly out of reach for just about everyone who's not a celebrity/bajillionaire, the price can be justified by the 154-foot Valor's many luxurious features.

Of all the superyacht guides, your go-to should be YachtCharterFleet, which always features a deep-dive on the Below Deck yachts before each season starts. According to its article about the history of the "Valor," the boat's real name is BG, and it hails from the Netherlands, so it has a Northern European flair, though it will be right at home around the British Virgin Isles during the filming of Below Deck Season 4. It is referred to as "the yachting equivalent of a Rolls Royce," which to me suggests that if James Bond owned a yacht, it would be this one.

And whether the owner of the yacht is a British superspy or not, they'll be amazed to see the ship's amenities. According to Burgess, there are six cabins that can accommodate up to a dozen guests, and, of course, there's room for a crew to take care of your every need. Other features of the ship, according to Burgess?

"The unique dining salon has a patina and rosewood table, featuring a spectacular custom-built wine wardrobe displaying 120 bottles. The bridge deck aft boasts a phenomenal exterior dining and entertaining area with projector screen. A stylish jacuzzi area and large sun pad area provides panoramic views from the sun deck."

The Valor/BG was recently renovated by designer Dee Dee Taylor Eustace, which, according to YCW, was a big deal. Because of that makeover, the Valor looks a little different than some of the other boats that have hosted Below Deck seasons. It's very modern, and more inspired by minimalism than it its by old-world Mediterranean luxury. Think lots of white linens as opposed to polished gold finishes. It should still be a big chore for the crew to clean up, but it might suggest that this season will draw new kinds of guests. Of course, there's always going to be one big similarity between all of the Below Deck charter guests, which holds true for anyone who owns a superyacht — you'll need a lot of cash to set sail.

yacht valor cost

In the fourth spin off of Below Deck, the now infamous decided to spice things up a little. Instead of the usual Mediterranean or Caribbean routine, Below Deck went to the less explored (but extremely breathtaking) Norway.

For this new serie filled with adventure, Below Deck picked the motoryacht Mercury, ex Malibu and Kermit, to explore the Fjords Norway is famous for.

Mercury is a 50m motoryacht built by the dutch shipyard Amels, and designed by Terence Disdale.

She can accomodate up to 12 guests and 12 crew onboard. No doubt, that should be enough for this new exciting season.

Mercury is available for charter from $170,000 a week . Her current selling price is $13,500,000 .

Yachts featured in Below Deck Down Under (Spin off in Australia)

Thalassa (keri lee iii): the motoryacht in below deck down under season 1.

keri lee III below deck down under season 1

Thalassa was the vessel of choice for the Australian Spin off of Below Deck. The real name of the yacht isn’t actually Thalassa but Keri Lee III.

The 181ft (55m) yacht was built by the American shipyard Trinity Yachts and features amenities such as a gym, a jacuzzi and 6 magnificent cabins. The perfect vessel to sail in style the waters of Northeastern Australia.

Keri Lee has a weekly charter rate that starts at AUD310,000 .

Northern Sun: the yacht in Below Deck Down Under Season 2

northern sun below deck down under season 2

Below Deck Down Under season 2 explored the coasts around Cairns, the gateway to access the great barrier reef and the Whitsunday Islands.

And it’s hard to imagine a better yacht than the Northern Sun motoryacht to explore this iconic area. The Northern Sun is a 50.8m (now yacht) that used to be a vessel dedicated for ice exploration. The refit work took two years but was clearly worth it when we look at the result displayed in this second season of the Australian Spin off.

Although the Northern Sun is built by the Japanese Narasaki shipyard, it surely is a boat that fits Australian waters quite well and could delight anyone looking to explore the most rugged locations in style, whether they are polar or tropical.

Northern Sun is available for charter from $161,700 / week . Her latest asking price was $15,000,000 .

How Much Does It Cost To Rent The Yachts On Below Deck?

Below Deck stars Kate Chastain and Captain Lee Rosbach

Watching Bravo's  Below Deck , it's kind of impossible not to fantasize about renting one of the featured luxury yachts for yourself. For most of us regular folks, the idea of lounging around having every need tended to by a crew of hot, young twentysomethings is an experience we're only going to get watching this particular show (and its drama-filled spin-off,  Below Deck Mediterranean , of course).

Still, it's fun to dream. And if our funds ever permit us to, the first stop would be one of these huge boats replete with gold bathroom fixtures, luxuriously expansive guest cabins, and Michelin-star service. So, how much exactly would that set you back?

The Below Deck yachts do not come cheap

According to  Worldwide Boat,  the cheapest you can rent one of the featured yachts (the Ohana, from season 2) is $140,000 per week. The rest range in price all the way up to a whopping €231,000 (around $256,000 per week) for the Talisman Maiton, which was featured on  Below Deck Med  season 3.

According to  Yacht Charter Fleet , the smaller super-yachts, including the  Ionian Princess , the  Valor , and the  Sirocco , rent for approximately $154,000 to $199,500 per week, depending on the season and the boat. The good news, though, is the Ohana is $140,000 per week at any time of year, so it's something of a bargain compared to the others.

As for the mid-range yachts, the  Eros  is currently not available for rent, nor is the recently-redone  Honor . The biggest super-yachts, meanwhile, are  way  out of seemingly anybody's price range. The aforementioned Talisman Maiton goes for the same massive fee no matter the time of year, while  My Seanna , at 185 feet, is $294,000 a week in the winter and $315,500 a week in summer.

Appearing on Below Deck might save you some money

Those looking to appear on  Below Deck  might get a discount as, according to  The Forward Cabin , charter guests who feature only pay around $11,000 each for the privilege, and that includes airfare, hotels, and more. The charters are shorter, however, clocking in at just a few days each according to  Worldwide Boat .

It's still a massive discount considering the show's own Kate Chastain told  ET ,  "Generally a boat that size, 150 foot — this one's 160, Valor — but around that price range, for seven days, is around $150,000. But that does not include airfare, fuel, food, wine, docking, tip. So, I would say for a boat like Valor, for a week vacation, it would be around a quarter of a million dollars."

If you're more interested in owning rather than renting a yacht, be forewarned;  Denison Yachting  advises it'll cost around $4.75 million annually for a 180-foot vessel, including around $400,00 for fuel, $350,000 for dockage, $240,000 for vessel insurance, $1 million for maintenance and repairs, and $1.4 million for crew salaries.

They're definitely pricey, but the Below Deck yachts are worth it

Chartering a luxury yacht, particularly one featured on Below Deck, costs so much for one major reason: You're getting a first class experience. As noted by Worldwide Boat , the expert crews working these boats are the best of the best (despite what the hit show and its spin-off, may lead us to believe), and the amenities boasted by each truly have to be seen to be believed. Put simply, this is a once in a lifetime vacation.

Take the Ionian Princess, which boasts a sun deck featuring a Jacuzzi and breathtaking views. The gorgeous boat, originally built in 2005, also includes luxury accommodations across six cabins for up to 12 guests. Likewise, the Dutch-built Sirocco, which was made in 2006, also features a sun deck but it's equipped with a gym, making it even more special. Elsewhere on-board there's an alfresco party deck, theater, and plenty of other amenities for fun both on and off the water.

The yachts featured on Below Deck are basically floating luxury hotels

The mighty Talisman Maiton, meanwhile, fittingly named for a stunning Thai island, is a superb, tri-deck yacht. Although it accommodates 12 guests total, the boat also features a master suite and a VIP stateroom, so exclusivity is key. It was refit in 2016 (the yacht was originally built in 2006) and now features a glorious sun deck and spa pool complete with a bar, gym, and an all-important observation deck with panoramic views.

The  huge My Seanna also boasts a master suite and VIP stateroom, as well as a chic beach club, fittings brushed in 22 carat gold, a sundeck sauna and gym, helipad, and even an outdoor movie theater. Act quickly and you might just get a discount on it, as  Yacht Charter Fleet  previously advertised that the first three charters to the Bahamas this past summer were subject to an insane 35 percent price reduction.

Chartering a  Below Deck  yacht is something most of us will only ever dream of doing, but it's not hard to understand why those who have the cash choose to splash out for the privilege.

Valor Yacht Uncovered: The Inside Scoop on Design & Features

Ian Fortey

Few yachts have had such a whirlwind of existence as the Valor, which had been around the block once or twice. The yacht was built in 1990 by Feadship yacht builders and was designed by De Voogt Naval Architecture. She has a steel hull over an aluminum superstructure.

The interior design was handled by McMillen Design. Since its launch in 1990, it has undergone name changes, owner changes, and a reasonably prolific run as one of the yachts featured on the popular series Below Deck, which appeared in seasons 4, 5, and 7.

After the 2015 refit, the yacht got a Hampton Beach House-themed interior styled by Taylor Hannah Architect. However, the 2021 refit made further changes to the interior as well.

Who Owns the Valor Yacht?

yacht valor cost

Originally the yacht known as Valor was owned by Microsoft Paul Allen, who is no stranger to yachts and also owned the yacht known as Octopus . However, Allen would later gift the Valor to his sister Jodi Allen. From Allen, it changed hands again to its current owner Bobby Genovese, BG Capital Group’s founder and CEO.

Genovese repurchased the yacht in 2014 and had her refitted in 2015. It looks like she may have also undergone a second refit in 2021.

How Many Names Had the Valor Yacht Had?

yacht valor cost

So here’s the weird thing about the Valor. It’s not called the Valor, and technically never was. Confusing, right? When the yacht was commissioned in 1990, it was known as the Charade. That seems to be the name it held when Jodi Allen took over ownership from her brother.

Fast forward to 2014, and Bobby Genovese takes ownership. What did he name it? BG. So where did Valor come from? It’s an alias. On the show Below Deck, they often make up fake names for the yachts that appear. Like an actor taking a role, a real yacht plays a fake one on the show, possibly to hide any identifying features about the vessel in case people are trying to track it and interfere with filming. Other yachts like My Seanna did the same thing (that one was called Starship).

So, technically, it was never the Valor, but that is still how fans of the show would recognize it. In real life, it changed from Charade to its current name, BG.

How Big is the Valor Yacht/Yacht BG?

yacht valor cost

The BG measures in at 153 ’10”, which makes her a large yacht for sure, but quite a ways away from the largest yachts in the world . In terms of width, she has a beam of 28′ 11″ and a draft of 9′ 6″. Her gross tonnage is just 515 GT.

How Much Did Motor Yacht BG Cost?

Details on what Paul Allen may have spent back in 1990 are pretty hard to come by, so it’s hard to say what the yacht cost when it was built initially. Her current value has been estimated at between $15 million and $16 million. It’s also believed that the yacht has an annual running cost of around $2 million.

Can You Charter Yacht BG?

yacht valor cost

The yacht Valor/BG is available for charter for those who want to taste the luxury yacht life one week at a time. Charter prices vary based on the time of year, and winter prices are always cheaper than summer ones. A week on the BG in the winter will set you back about $155,000 US plus expenses. In the summer, that will go up to $168,000 per week. This difference is pretty standard for most charter yachts. Yacht owners need to make their money back for operating costs, and the more in demand a yacht is during the charter season, the more crew members expect to get paid, and so on.

How Fast is the Yacht BG and What Engines Does It Use?

Powered by twin 905 hp Caterpillar 3508 DITA d diesel engines, the BG can cruise at 13 knots and reach 15 knots. With her 70,000-liter fuel tank, she has a range of about 5,000 nautical miles at cruising speed.

What’s the Interior of the Valor Yacht/BG Yacht Like?

yacht valor cost

Because the Valor/BG was so heavily featured on Below Deck and is now a charter yacht, there have been lots of looks inside the yacht to show it off over the years.

Regarding accommodations for charter guests, the Valor has room for 12 guests in 6 suites. This includes a master suite on the main deck, one VIP cabin, two double cabins, and two cabins that can operate as twins or doubles. There are eight beds, including two kings and two queens. There’s also room on board for a crew of 10.

The master suite is a full beam with walk-in closets and an ensuite bathroom. The bathroom even features a two-person shower.

yacht valor cost

Outside of rooms, there are many other features and amenities to enjoy. After the 2021 refit, owner Bobby Genovese said, “Everything that could have been done to the boat has been done.” That included new paint, new toys, and upgraded technology throughout.

The new look includes a lot of soft and clean design touches. White is used extensively throughout, as well as light gray tones. This is contrasted with darker wood to give a clean and modern look. Overall, the aesthetic throughout the cabins and living spaces is minimalist, without too many overt touches of any particular style that some may find off-putting. It has the look of a modern hotel in many ways, providing that feeling of a luxury getaway from the usual, everyday sense of being at home, for instance.

Symmetry was also a big part of the interior design. Precise and easily navigated angles and layouts made getting around the yacht easy for guests and crew alike. This includes the layout of fixtures and furniture so that everything is streamlined with no surprises and a natural, intuitive design.

Where Can I Find the Valor Yacht’s Deck Plan?

yacht valor cost

If you want an up close and personal view of the deck plan, you can check it out here with a detailed picture of the yacht’s four decks.

Features and Amenities

yacht valor cost

Like any suitable yacht, especially a yacht charter, the Valor has toys and amenities to entice people to spend those big bucks and enjoy a week at sea. Look at some of the most exciting features you’ll find on board.

  • The BG has a large gym with a wide array of the latest equipment to enhance a workout routine
  • For something more relaxing, there’s a large deck Jacuzzi as well
  • A hydraulic swim platform
  • A massive wine selection in the main salon
  • Tons of upgraded tech amenities include satellite TV, sat phones, and the latest gaming systems
  • A deck theater for movie nights located on the sprawling aft deck that is also suitable for al fresco dining, parties, and just lounging

yacht valor cost

The BG has a lot of water toys for a yacht of its size to ensure that guests are having fun on the water.

  • A massive, inflatable water slide
  • For those who don’t want to stay wet, there’s also an inflatable climbing wall
  • Equipment for snorkeling
  • A pair of 2-seat Yamaha Jet-Skis
  • A pair of 2-person kayaks
  • Four F5 Seabobs
  • A kneeboard
  • A wakeboard and other towables
  • A pair of stand-up paddle boards
  • A 32′ 2″ Intrepid Tender
  • An 18’1” Novurania Tender

The Bottom Line

The yacht Valor was only known by that name on the Show Below Deck. In real life, it started as the Charade after it was built in 1990 and was renamed BG, a name that it still holds as a charter yacht.

Bobby Genovese owns the BG and measures 153 ’10”. It can accommodate 12 guests and features many amenities, including a giant inflatable water slide, a deck jacuzzi, and an aft deck cinema. The yacht is worth around $15 million, and a charter will cost you between $155,000 per week and $162,000, depending on season and availability.

Written by Rachael Steele

Luxury yacht BG , known as VALOR on the Below Deck Series , might be the most recognisable vessel from the Below Deck series as she featured in not one but three series. Memorable moments onboard include a salad ‘nightmare’, a back waxing and a medical scare to go along with plenty of partying on board.  Motor yacht BG was built by renowned Dutch shipyard Feadship in 1990, and of course, received an extensive refit in 2015 before filming took place on board from 2016 onwards. Today, charter guests can expect the same gorgeous interiors, lavish outdoor areas and an impressive selection of water toys.

The Interiors

The camera-ready interiors from Taylor Hannah Architect are glamorous and easy-going at the same time, using a monochrome palette for a clean environment where the sense of light and space is emphasised. The formal dining area immediately draws in the with its glass chandelier and 120 bottle wine cellar creating ambient surroundings along with the rosewood table.

The main salon has plenty of plush seating along the port side for the whole group to gather for conversation and an aperitif before a meal, with a top-quality 47″ TV to entertain little ones while the expert chef prepares dinner. For top-notch entertainment, the sky lounge has a relaxed cinema setup with a wall-mounted 75″ widescreen TV and two L-shaped sofas for cosy group gatherings with friends and family.

The Exteriors

Life on the water is all about connecting with the sea and the surroundings, and luxury yacht BG gives guests plenty of reason to leave behind the air-conditioned salons for the outdoor life.

The main deck aft is a convenient space to rest in the shade with quick access to the tender and water toys the moment they are ready.

The upper deck aft is the main outdoor living area and will see much use throughout the charter thanks to its large alfresco dining table and abundance of seating and sun loungers. The area can be shaded for all-day outdoor use and is the perfect place to return to and nap after taking the water slide or the climbing wall over the edge. Side walkways will take guests around to the Portuguese deck in front of the bridge, where there is a row of sunbeds with panoramic views.

Guests looking for the Jacuzzi will find it on the sundeck aft, a tranquil environment compared to the social hub below. The sunbeds forward allow guests to rest together in privacy, with sweeping views of the surrounding scenery.

Master Suite

The Accommodation

The crisp and cool accommodation sleeps a total of 12 guests across 6 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 2 double cabins and 2 twin cabins convertible to doubles.

You will need to find out what skills and certificates you will need to work on a motor yacht, in the position you want.

Next, you will need to get your ENG1 Medical Certificate. This certificate proves that you are medically fit and physically capable of working on a yacht. Next, you will need to attend yacht stewardess or deckhand training. These trainings include STCW Certificates, which is a minimum requirement. In addition, you will need other certificates like the Powerboat level 2 Security training, and VHF Radio training.

Once all of your training is finished you will need to sign up for a yacht crew agency. This agency provides access to employment on a network of yachts and is a good way to get your first position on a super yacht.

Lastly, you want to head to the location where you want to work. You will need to obtain a work visa from the local authorities and pass through any required quarantine periods before being able to work on a super yacht.

What Is The ‘Below Deck' Charter Cost?

How Much Does It Cost To Charter A Yacht On Below Deck?

Boats on Below Deck

With Bravo's "Below Deck" approaching its tenth season , it's safe to say that viewers enjoy going on a virtual ride on the world's most luxurious yachts. The drama of the yachties aboard aside, the "Below Deck" offers endless entertainment , as it manages to make us all jealous of how extravagant life on a cruise ship can be. It's hard not to imagine yourself being serviced by attractive yachties and experiencing all the fancy amenities.

If you do have the cash to spare, though, you may be thinking about chartering one such ship yourself. After all, if you had the money, nothing's stopping you from spending on an extravagant trip around the Caribbean. But fair warning: It doesn't come cheap, and you have to brace yourself to spend thousands of dollars. It's worth it, of course, especially if the particular ship you charter has tons of amenities in store. But if your wish is to rent the ships you see on TV, prepare to spend an arm and a leg.

It costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to charter a yacht

"Below Deck" gives you a glimpse of how lavish life on deck could be — at least for the guests. And for the kind of service and amenities guests enjoy, you must pay a pretty penny to hop onboard. Per the booking company Yacht Charter Fleet , chartering a yacht like My Seanna, the 185-foot ship featured on the show on Season 9, can set you back a whopping $260,000. It gets even heftier during the high season, with the cost rising up to $300,000. And that's only for one week!

It may be worth the price, though, given what it offers to guests. This particular ship can accommodate up to 12 guests and 11 crew members with its six suites. It provides a bevy of exciting amenities, too, including a state-of-the-art movie theater, a beach club, a well-equipped gym, deck jacuzzi, and more. The ship takes you to the beautiful Bahamas, and should you wish to enjoy water activities, you can request to try out kayaks, jet skis, and more. "Can't go wrong there, I love that boat," Captain Lee himself wrote in a tweet .

Smaller boats, however, are cheaper — although not much. "Generally a boat that size, 150 foot — this one's 160, Valor — but around that price range, for seven days, is around $150,000," Kate Chastain told ET . "But that does not include airfare, fuel, food, wine, docking, tip. So, I would say for a boat like Valor, for a week vacation, it would be around a quarter of a million dollars."

The yachties on Below Deck don't earn as much as you think

Even if guests cough up hundreds of thousands of dollars on chartering the yachts seen on "Below Deck," the yachties aboard don't earn as much as you think.

Per reports from Refinery29 and Crewfinder International , stewardesses rake in about $5,000 monthly, with the chief stewardess making up to $6,000. Chefs make more depending on their experience and can bring home up to $10,000 a month. Meanwhile, Captain Lee likely makes up to $210,000 a year if he works a full year, and that's not even including tips. He could be collecting $100,000 more in tips if he charters ships year-round.

"Below Deck" star Ashley Marti previously disclosed that she makes more on OnlyFans than she does on the show. In a tweet , she wrote, "Just want to thank @BravoWWHL for all the free OF publicity! I love waking up and seeing that in a couple hours, I've made more money than #Bravo paid me for 6 weeks." To put things in perspective, Marti charges $12.50 per subscription. And with over 7,000 paying fans, she's looking at over $87,000 a month in revenue. Not too shabby! Former bosun Eddie Lucas echoed the same sentiment. "There is somebody monetizing off of the show, but it's definitely not us," he shared with the New York Post  in May. "Below Deck — regardless of it being the most popular show on Bravo — we are the lowest-paid cast members."

How much does it cost to charter a yacht?

There are many things to consider and first time charterers can be left confused, that's why we've created a comprehensive guide to yacht charter prices (with a checklist).

charter cost explained banner

The good news: It’s easy to grasp the basics of yacht charter pricing. And with one of our experts in your corner, we can help you more accurately estimate the cost of your next once-in-a-lifetime vacation.

The cost of a yacht charter is dependent on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the charter destination, local taxes, and the base cost. (If the yacht has a celebrity owner, well that too, can add to the cost.)

Therefore, yacht charters have a wide range of base prices. That’s why charters can cost from $10,000 per week on smaller sailing yachts and catamarans, up to $150,000+ per week on the most luxurious motor superyachts.

What else can you expect to pay? This overview – a part of our planning resource, the Charter Advice Guide – offers an in-depth look at charter yacht costs.

Yacht Charter Price Structure: “All-Inclusive” vs “Plus Expenses”

In the world of yachting, two types of crewed yacht charters are available to you – “All-Inclusive” and “Plus Expenses” charter experiences. What do these terms mean exactly? Here’s a quick look:

  • All-Inclusive Yacht Charters – Some charters (mainly catamaran and monohull charters in the Virgin Islands) offer all-inclusive rates. That means rates are based on the number of guests, and they include all food and drink, water sports, and fuel costs. Dockage and taxes, though, are usually charged separately.
  • Plus Expenses Charters – Rates for larger motor yachts do not include running expenses, which must be paid separately. For these luxury charters, the base price is for the yacht only. Additional expenses, i.e. food, bar, fuel, dockage, port taxes, and other expenses, are charged separately. Most frequently, the running expenses are paid by an Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA, which is typically 35% of the base price; this is an amount that’s paid prior to the charter.

Our chart below offers a quick overview of what’s included in both of these types of charters.

charter cost comparison chart

Average Yacht Charter Cost: Base Prices

What can you expect to pay for a catamaran, a sailing vessel, or motored yacht? Here’s a quick overview of the average cost to rent a yacht (not including extra expenses) for the most common types available:

Factors that Affect Yacht Charter Prices

Since charter yachts are privately owned, prices are set by the owner. This can explain, in part, the wide range of differences in price between boats of similar lengths. Yet, several other factors can significantly impact price, including:

  • The Yacht – The year the boat was built, the builder, previous owners, and the boat’s selection of water toys can also increase the cost of a yacht. Boats can also develop a reputation, i.e. the largest or most luxurious, or having a famous builder or previous owner. Reputation can also affect pricing.
  • Season – Prices typically increase in the high season – i.e. high summer in the Mediterranean or winter in the Caribbean – and decrease in low seasons.
  • Destination – Your charter destination also plays a role in charter cost. For example, prices increase in areas without large charter fleets (i.e. the Galapagos), whereas Bahamas yacht charters,   BVI charters , or Mediterranean yacht charter are priced more competitively.

Additional Costs Considerations on Yacht Charter

In addition to the cost associated with running the yacht and provisioning, there are a number of other costs that must be considered. These are the most significant:

Advanced Provisioning Allowance

The APA on Plus Expenses charters equals roughly 35% of the yacht’s base price. This is a fee that’s collected prior to charter, and it’s similar to an expense account the captain can access during the charter. At the end of the charter, you will receive a detailed accounting of your APA account, plus any unused APA funds in cash.

In the case of overages, you may be required to replenish the APA account during the charter. This can be done with cash, although many choose to set up accounts with their charter brokers , which can be accessed if requested by the captain.

Taxes and Value Added Tax (VAT)

Most boats – whether all-inclusive or Plus Expenses – will not include local taxes or a Value Added Tax into their charter rate. The charterer will be responsible for paying those taxes. Taxes range significantly by destination; here’s a look at some of yachting’s most popular destinations:

  • The Bahamas – Tax: 4% plus 10% VAT
  • BVI – Tax: between $6 and $16 per person per day, depending on the flag of the boat
  • Croatia – VAT: 13%
  • Florida – Tax: 6% for Broward County, 7% for Miami-Dade County
  • France – VAT: 20%, however, 10% can be applied when an itinerary includes International Waters
  • Greece – VAT: 12%
  • Italy – VAT: 22%, however 6.6% (over 24m) and 8.8% (under 24m) can be applied when an itinerary includes International Waters
  • Montenegro – NO VAT
  • New England – NO TAX
  • Spain – VAT: 21%
  • Turkey – NO VAT

Charterers can purchase cancellation and curtailment insurance – which is similar to traveler’s insurance. This insurance can help cover costs if a charterer must cancel or shorten the charter. Charter brokers can help you weigh insurance options, and often offer several different options.

Crew Gratuity

While crew gratuity is certainly not mandatory, it is recommended, particularly if you were truly impressed with your charter experience. In general, crew gratuity is roughly 15-20% of the base charter rate, which is handed to the captain at the conclusion of your charter.

Delivery Fees

While these fees do not apply on most charters, you may be asked to pay delivery costs if you are not chartering in the yacht’s normal cruising ground. In most cases, you will only be required to cover the fuel for the trip.

Additional Charter Cost FAQs

What are standard private charter yacht prices?

There are a number of factors that affect charter yacht pricing. However, on average, a week-long private yacht charter costs anywhere from $10,000 on luxurious sailing yachts and catamarans, and up to $150,000 for superyachts.

What affects charter yacht prices?

There are several things that influence how much your yacht charter will cost. The type of vessel, charter destination, length of trip, base cost, time of year, and local taxes all make a difference.

How much does it cost for a crewed vessel?

Charter yacht prices do increase when hiring a crew along with the boat. At Worldwide Boat, we offer two types of crewed charter experiences: all-inclusive and plus expenses. An all-inclusive charter yacht includes accommodation for all guests, food and drink, water sport activities, and fuel costs – dockage fees and taxes are charged separately. A plus expenses experience accounts for just the yacht’s base price. Things like food, drinks, fuel, dockages, taxes, and other expenses are charged separately and are usually estimated to be about 35% of the base price.

What’s included in all-inclusive boat charters?

At Worldwide Boat, your all-inclusive charter experience includes a diligent and friendly crew, water toys, food, drinks, fuel, water and electric services, and occasionally diving experiences.

What are some additional charter boat costs to consider?

After finding a base price you’re comfortable with and evaluating your package, you’ll also want to consider delivery fees, crew gratuity, insurance fees, taxes, and Advanced Provisioning Allowance rates. If you are responsible for these fees, your crew will handle the necessary transactions on your behalf.

What does it cost to rent a 100- foot yacht charter?

This depends on what type of vessel you’re looking at and how long you’ll need it for. The average weekly cost of a 100-foot sailing yacht is between $50,000-100,000. A weekly 80-foot catamaran charter runs around $40,000-100,000, and a week-long 100-foot motor yacht rental is anywhere between $50,000-80,000.

Does the price to rent a yacht change depending on what type of boat it is?

Yes. Worldwide Boat offers sailing yachts, catamarans, and motor yachts. All of these vessels have different capabilities, but there are other factors that determine the price beyond what type of boat you choose. The year the boat was built, owner, availability of water toys, onboard amenities, and the ship’s reputation can all change how much the ship is priced at.

When is the high season for yacht charters?

The price of a yacht fluctuates depending on the season. A Mediterranean yacht charter cost rises in the summer and drops in the winter, whereas Caribbean boat charter prices are high during the winter and lower in the summer months.

How does my destination affect charter yacht cost?

The more remote an area is, the more expensive it will be to charter a yacht there. That’s because prices go up in areas that have fewer boats. If you were to travel somewhere like the Galapagos, which isn’t a typical yacht destination, you’d pay more than you would if you were traveling to the Caribbean.

How much do I tip the crew when reviewing my yacht charter expenses?

It’s not required that you tip your crew, but it is recommended and appreciated. If you had an enjoyable experience it’s considered polite to tip your crew anywhere from 15-20% at the end of your charter.

Yacht Charter Costs Explained

Credit card

A comprehensive breakdown of your charter costs and fees.

When you begin planning a luxury yacht charter it is important to be aware of what is included in the cost of booking your dream charter yacht. although a yacht will have a base charter fee, this may or may not include additional expenses such as food and fuel and this is subject to the terms and conditions within the charter contract. there are various types of charter contracts and which one applies to you will depend on where you wish to cruise., high season.

High season refers to the most popular weeks of the year for yacht charter, whether it’s the winter period in the Caribbean or the height of summer in the Mediterranean , booking in high season requires early planning, determination and a big budget. In addition, planning a yacht charter to coincide with a major event will also be reflected in the price with marine spots for elite events often booking up early. Allow plenty of time when making enquiries to ensure a star studded, well prepared arrival.

Low season typically refers to any time outside of the high season periods. Groups of families and friends looking for a relaxing luxury vacation are advised to avoid high season weeks and opt for weeks outside of this time. The busiest periods are of course reflected in the charter costs and can be up to 15 to 30 percent more expensive than typical low season periods. Chartering a few weeks either side of these busy periods can be almost exactly the same, with the weather almost unchanged in some places, with far less crowds.

Take to our detailed destination guides and browse the yachts available in your chosen destination. Some of the most successful superyachts in the industry can be reserved up to a year in advance and as most yacht brokers will warn away from last minute bookings, it is better to book early and have the pick of the bunch rather than miss out at the last moment. Browse the Events section for details on upcoming festivals and sporting events or visit our Finding a Yacht Broker page to begin your planning your luxury yacht charter.

This article will go into detail of the costs to be expected when planning and booking a yacht charter. From the base charter fee of a yacht, what is covered within the fee and how it may vary in addition to details of contracts and how an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) can be used to manage any expenses.

Base Charter Fee

The base charter fee in essence refers to the hire cost of the yacht itself, with all equipment in working order in addition to the cost of food and wages for the crew during the entirety of the charter. This is essentially all the base charter fee covers with additional expenses often applicable on top. The base charter fee will vary from one yacht to another and this may be down to any number of reasons from size and on board amenities to the charter season. For instance, the base rate of a charter yacht may increase in "high season" and reduce during the "low season". "High season" and "low season" refers to the busiest and slowest periods for yacht charters though this may appear misleading, as these peak times refer to periods of weeks as opposed to full seasons. In addition, you may find that a yacht is also more expensive during special events such as the Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Film Festival and America's Cup. Unless you are keen to charter a yacht for a particular "high season" event, choose your dates carefully as although a "high season" rate will be more expensive than the "low season" the two can sometimes share much of the same weather conditions.

Aside from seasons and events, yachts of the same size may also differ in price and this may be down to a vast difference in on board amenities. A yacht which boasts an on board cinema or lavish water toys may have a higher base rate compared with a yacht of minimal amenities of the same size. If it is unclear as to why two yachts of the same size are vastly different in price, ask your yacht broker to explain what the differences are. Once you are clear on what the base price is and why, it is important to discover what costs will be applicable on top and this is dependent on the type of charter contract used.

The type of charter contract applicable to your charter will depend on where in the world you are cruising, as there are various terms within the industry which dictate how the payment structure is determined. For instance, a MYBA (Worldwide Yachting Association, formerly known as Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association) contract operates under Western Mediterranean Terms (WMT) and is arguably the most commonly used, particularly with large yachts embarking on a Mediterranean yacht charter. This contract is often referred to as a "plus all expenses" contract and requires that the charterer pay for fuel, food, beverages and dockage fees as an additional expense outside of the base charter fee. Typically, guests can accumulate an additional 25% to 50% of the base charter fee though this is dependent on what is consumed. These expenses can be tracked through the use of an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) which we will cover in the next section.

Alternatively, smaller yachts on a Caribbean yacht charter can expect a "mostly all-inclusive" contract known as Caribbean Terms Inclusive (CTI) sometimes referred to as Standard Caribbean Terms (SCT). The Standard Caribbean Terms greatly differ from Western Mediterranean Terms, as the Caribbean terms include three meals a day in addition to four hours cruising per day which is included in the base charter fee.

In addition to the commonly used MYBA terms and Standard Caribbean Terms, there are also less frequently used terms such as Standard Eastern Mediterranean Terms (SEMT) and Greek Terms (GI). Read our guide on Understanding Charter Contracts for more information and if you are unsure as to what is included under the terms of your contract, be sure to ask your broker.

Advance Provisioning Allowance (commonly referred to as APA)

Irrespective of the charter contract it is important for guests to be aware of the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA). The APA was designed to enable charterers to manage their expenses through a clear and trackable arrangement. An APA is a way to deposit the estimated expense amount of your charter to cover costs such as fuel, food and dockage fees. Typically, the APA accrues to approximately 25% to 30% of the base charter fee, though this does of course depend on the charter parties tastes and requirements and could be far less or far greater than this estimation. For instance, charter guests who intend to regularly dine on caviar and vintage wine can expect to pay more, whereas guests on board a sailing yacht charter can expect to save on fuel costs. Charterers can request an estimated APA amount from the yacht broker based on their on board expectations.

The APA is to be paid approximately one month prior to boarding the charter yacht and is paid directly to the Captain of the yacht. Once the APA has been paid to the captain it will then be retained as a bank account of sorts, from which the captain can make expenditures whilst keeping a record of what has been spent. At any point during the yacht charter guests can request a rundown of accounts from the captain as a way of keeping track of expenditures. The captain will request that any additional funds are paid during the charter should guests exceed the APA. It is therefore a good idea to keep an additional account with your yacht broker on shore, as should the APA become critically low at any time the yacht broker can release additional funds to the captain on the charterers command. Cash can be used if necessary though an on shore account may be deemed as hassle free to some.

It is important to remember that food and fuel for example, are charged at cost without mark up to the charterer and upon disembarking, transactions can be reviewed by the "head" charterer and Captain with any remaining funds to be paid back to the charterer.

Fuel and Dockage Fees

It is important to remember that whilst considering fuel costs, the fuel consumed when using jet-skis and tenders will also apply to the charterer. In addition, whilst docked at a marina the generators used in order to produce electricity will also use fuel. The distance travelled and speed of cruising also affects fuel costs and it is important to bear these factors in mind. Dockage fees may vary from very little to large sums and this is dependent again upon the location and whether you wish to dock during a special event such as the Monaco Grand Prix.

Although insurance costs are not directly connected to the charter costs as such, it is useful to bear in mind should you with to take out Charterers Liability Insurance or Cancellation and Curtailment cover. You can read more information regarding insurance in our How to Book and Plan a Yacht Charter article.

Value Added Tax (VAT)

European Union (EU) tax laws state VAT will apply should you disembark within their waters, for example Italian territorial waters. This may also apply to some Caribbean islands. Commercially registered vessels are usually VAT exempt though vessels which are not commercially registered will be liable for VAT for all charters within the EU.

No request is too large or detail too small on a yacht charter though it is wise to keep in mind the shipping costs should you request an expensive bottle of champagne to be transported to you whilst you are residing in a secluded bay of the Caribbean. It is important to understand the entire payment structure to ensure no unpleasant surprises arise and it is often prudent to keep an escrow account with your broker on shore in order to control charter costs without having to carry cash on board.
