Captain Jeff Hackstaff is an amazing Captain and has been on the water here in Los Cabos for decades. Il catamarano LH 33 Comfort ECO è spinto da due motori elettrici Oceanvolt da 6kw, alimentati da un pacco batterie al litio e da un generatore elettrico diesel.

Vantaggi di una propulsione elettrica

Si può parlare molto dei vantaggi e degli svantaggi di una propulsione elettrica, affrontando la questione da molti punti di vista, questo di seguito è il nostro:

Un sistema meccanicamente più semplice In confronto ad un sistema tradizionale diesel i motori elettrici non hanno marce o componenti che possono rompersi o che hanno bisogno di essere sostituiti ogni anno.

Semplicità di gestione grazie agli automatismi La gestione dell’energia può essere facilitata da robusti ed affidabili controlli automatici, che rendono il sistema accessibile anche “a chi non è un ingegnere elettronico”.

Maggiore affidabilità L’impianto elettrico e le batterie sono presenti in ogni catamarano e sono componenti molto affidabili, in più in un sistema ibrido si possono sfruttare più fonti di energia, minimizzando le possibilità di rimanere “a secco”.

Una nuova filosofia di navigazione Chi sceglie la vela, ama l’idea di spostarsi grazie alla forza della natura. Con una motorizzazione elettrica questo è possibile anche quando si viaggia a motore. Con una gestione consapevole è possibile uscire con il vostro catamarano dal porto, veleggiare e tornare in banchina senza aver consumato un grammo di gasolio e senza aver inquinato un’oncia d’acqua.

Consumi ridotti Lavorando soltanto ad un numero di giri ottimali il generatore diesel può produrre energia elettrica in maniera più efficiente. Tale energia viene utilizzata al massimo dai propulsori elettrici che lavorano sempre con una “coppia massima”. Il risultato è che un sistema ibrido, se concepito bene, è più efficiente di un sistema solo diesel.

Con l’attuale tecnologia delle batterie al litio l’autonomia è ancora limitata, per questo è necessario accoppiare un generatore diesel, che venga a supporto nel caso si debbano fare lunghi viaggi in catamarano a motore.
