Project description.

S/Y Seahawk was 60m in length yet still remained under 500 GT. The new 60m series also features brand new Perini Navi winches on a reengineered platform. The yacht has stylish carbon fibre rigging sheathed in red, and interior design by Christian Liaigre. S/Y Seahawk is a multiple award winner, a queen of the Bucket races, and has already sailed around the world. She was built for a first time sailing yacht owner.

This site celebrates the SeaHawk. It's a 17ft GRP drop-keel yacht, supplied in two and four-berth variants. It is used by many owners as a Trailer Sailer and is often advertised as an ideal first boat.

Using The Main Menu

When first opened, apart from HOME and CONTACT options, the main menu shows the headings indicated above. Most of the options have a [+] button on them indicating that there are further options relevant to that heading. Click/Tap on those buttons to reveal the additional options.

Once a sub-section is opened, it can be closed up again by using the [-] button that then appears against that heading. With over 130 pages on the main site there are up to four levels under each of the main headings and multiple options at each level, so don't be afraid the use the Site Search facility found by the menu button at the top of every page.

With the Project Sea Hawk superyacht concept , the London-based design firm Hawk Yachts aims to create a superyacht that is not only big in size, but substance as well. The 338-foot yacht concept has been engineered as a true luxury expedition craft—equally comfortable cruising near the polar ice caps or on the Amazon River. Its massive interior could accommodate as many as 36 guests and 62 crew.

Designed from what the company calls the “ocean up,” the Sea Hawk will feature an efficiently hydrodynamic hull with belted reinforcement, large bilge keels, retractable fin stabilizers, and oversize propellers. But its real beauty is in the bow. Approximately 1.5 decks higher than standard designs, the unique Hawk bow elevates the gunwale (top edge), and its shape helps deflect and dampen the force of large waves. Thanks to this geometry, as well as its construction materials, the yacht will be ready for Polar Ice Class 6 certification and will be able to cut through ice up to 2.5 feet thick.

In polar opposite conditions, Sea Hawk will take the heat in stride thanks to engine-cooling systems, powerful air-conditioning, insect and pollen filters, and heat exchangers capable of handling the high silt content of many tropical rivers. Adding to the yacht’s versatility is the planned use of a hybrid propulsion system that will allow cruising at speeds of up to 12 knots using only electricity.

In for the long haul, the lavish exploratory vessel will have a range of 12,000 nautical miles, enough storage for voyages lasting more than three months, and a helipad for any necessary ship-to-shore sojourns. An onboard incinerator along with sewage and grey-water treatment processes will minimize environmental impact.

Form, however, is not lost amidst all of Sea Hawk’s functionality. Its vast, fully customizable interiors could feature a spa, an indoor pool, an open galley, and an ample bar and lounge surrounded by windows. For the ultimate view, the asymmetrically shaped bridge will have room for guests to relax and observe the journey from the captain’s perspective.

Her classic Downeast styling is timeless, and her Kingston Gray hull shows beautifully. Inside, her stunning two-stateroom interior is warm and inviting with cherry cabinetry and teak and holly soles throughout. Abundant natural light and fresh air below is provided by large windows, opening ports and deck hatches. The interior is also air conditioned and heated with three A/C-Heat units. Outside, wide side decks provide safe, easy access around the outside of the boat. The roomy cockpit has plenty of room for outside activities and entertaining. All outside teak has been recently stripped and revarnished. The spacious flybridge with factory hardtop and four sided enclosure provides excellent visibility with lots of area for seating. The cockpit is spacious with a built-in propane BBQ station and wet bar. Both the upper and lower helm stations are well equipped with a full array of navigation electronics. The Sabre 42 Flybridge is the outcome of discussions with our clients and prospective clients. These conversations have led us to create a yacht which offers the same levels of personal luxury and comfort that they have come to expect in their homes and in their automobiles. We have developed a yacht with both lower and upper helms, that permits owners to operate from the comfort of the yacht’s interior or from the openness of her flybridge. Technology is advancing rapidly and our owners have come to expect that when there is a new technology available, Sabre will employ it in all new designs.

We have dramatically changed the way we build our yachts and the way in which they are propelled. Traditional values such as fine craftsmanship and great looks remain, as our owners have come to expect, but below the elegant surfaces, things are state-of-art. In our fiberglass shop we have changed to infusion molding. The process is greener in that it uses considerably less resin, and is cleaner in that the emissions levels are much lower. Less resin means less weight, allowing the hull to run faster and use less fuel. Infusion differs from traditional hand lay-up in that all materials are loaded dry into the mold in a stack, which is then covered with a plastic bag to allow the resin to be infused. This creates a stronger part with higher glass to resin ratios.

The Sabre 42 Flybridge uses Zeus pod drives. Smaller engines using vectored thrust propel the boat at higher speeds using less fuel. And when maneuvering in tight spaces a joy stick gives increased confidence to the operator.

Entering from the aft cockpit through a hinged door, the elegance of this Sedan's interior is immediately evident. Hand-crafted cherry joinery is everywhere you look, and the cabin soles are teak and holly throughout. Large windows on all four sides not only make the salon bright and airy but provide excellent exterior visibility. The Salon has an L-Shaped settee along the aft and port side also pulls out to convert to a double-berth, if additional sleeping capacity is needed. Facing the settee is a nice hi-lo, drop-leaf table. Forward of the settee is a cabinet with storage while the large top - perfect to use as a Chart Table. In the Salon's aft starboard corner is a comfortable chair. Forward of that is a built-in cherry angled cabinet with a concealed wine cooler/refrigerator. Further forward is the starboard side complete Helm Station with Helm Seat. A Starboard aluminum sliding door leads out to the side deck. Centerline forward, down a few steps is the portside, U-Shaped fully equipped Galley with 2-burner propane stove, double sink, microwave and plenty of storage. Forward of the Galley is the portside Head compartment. It is complete with dual access doors, stall shower with seat and bi-fold plexi-glass door, vanity with sink, opening portlight, overhead hatch and a Quiet-Flush toilet. Opposite the Galley to starboard is the Guest Cabin with lounge that pulls out to sleep two plus flips up to sleep a third person. There is a hanging locker, drawers, two opening ports, overhead hatch, and two French style doors that open this cabin to the Companionway and Galley. All the way forward is the private Owner's Stateroom with centerline island double berth. It has direct access to the Head, a large cedar-lined hanging locker, storage compartments, drawers, two opening ports and an overhead hatch.

Main Salon:

The Main Salon is surrounded by large windows and is light and airy. Beautiful hand-crafted interior joinery in American cherry and a Teak and Holly sole gives this space tasteful elegance. This space was designed for entertainment and complete comfort. There is a Chart table/breakfast counter on the forward port side. And an L-Shaped Settee that converts to double berth with filler cushions.

Aft Cockpit:

The Aft Cockpit is one step down from the Salon. It has a large, hinged transom door leading to the large fiberglass swim platform. It sports a SS BBQ propane grill and SS hot/cold sink in a forward port cabinet. The cabinet top is hinged to open protecting the above from the weather. There are two doors in the cabinet with plenty of storage. There are three sole hatches in the cockpit. Port one opens to reveal two propane tanks; the center for lots of storage and access to rudder table; starboard hatch the same. There is a Bimini Top with SS frame protecting the cockpit from sun and weather. Lots of cleats and hawse pipes for ease of line handling and docking in the cockpit. Worth mentioning is the very user-friendly “stair style” access steps up and down from cockpit to flybridge. It has heavy duty SS handrails for safe passage. It doesn’t feel like a ladder; it feels like stairs!

SEA HAWK features Polar Class 6 to break 80 cm first-year ice. In combination with typical luxury yacht features, this concept provides an awesome travel experience. To explore the destinations eco-friendly, the yacht is equipped with an electric mode, the diesel tanks are positioned, that they don’t can leak in case of an accident.

Furthermore, there are three kinds of propulsion. First, power only by the two main engines, Second, the electric mode (generator plus electric engines) for speed up to 12 knots and low-noise and low vibrations for more comfort. The third one is the boost mode (main engines + generators and electric engines) to power up to over 18 knots.

The bow design isn’t just an eye-catcher, it is a very seaworthy and economical design. Instead of scooping the waves, the design breaks and throw the waves aside.

In addition to many other high-tech features, SEA HAWK has a remote monitoring system to keep an eye on the engines and machinery. The system alerts six months in advance to book a slot at a shipyard. Also, it alerts in 7 – 30 days in advance. As a result, the yacht has less downtime and reduced costs.

Go further than before with the new Sea Hawk explorer yacht concept

The new 103 metre Sea Hawk concept from Hawk Yachts pushes the limits of ice classed, large expedition yachts. Now Hawk Yachts shares new renderings of the boundary pushing explorer yacht with Boat International .

The Sea Hawk explorer yacht is designed to be built to Polar Ice Class 6 classification, which would make her capable of breaking through 80cm of new ice. At the same time, she’s ready for long-range cruising in other adventurous regions, such as trekking up the Amazon, with a range of 12,000 nautical miles and capacity for three months of provisioning storage.

Everything has been thought of for these remote voyages, such as ways to clean the side gates of mud and changing insect filters quickly – less than glamorous amenities that are all important when adventuring.

Diana Scott has penned the exterior lines of the new explorer yacht, giving Sea Hawk an eye-catching bow design. The exterior is full of windows and balconies, designed to connect her guests with the far-flung cruising grounds they are traversing. Naval architecture comes from Frank Neubelt and Caspar Andri Largiader. The hull is designed to be “ice friendly”, pushing smaller pieces of ice out of its way and breaking through larger pieces.

Sea Hawk is also backed by a team of ice and expedition experts, such as superyacht captain Matthias Bosse – who is a master mariner and an ice master and has cruised the Arctic Ocean, Antarctica and the Amazon River – and Polar Expert and explorer David Fletcher.

To combat the changing climates it will venture to, Sea Hawk will have heated door seals, oversized propellers designed to withstand ice and floating debris and heavy duty air-conditioning. The yacht will also be powered by diesel-electric propulsion, and can switch to the electric only option for use in environmentally sensitive areas.

“She’s designed to travel 2,000 nautical miles up the Amazon,” says Nick Lockett of Hawk Yachts. “The yacht will have a strengthened steel propeller. The prop could be hit with a log [on the Amazon River] and you’d be okay.”

Lockett explains that the yacht is designed to go anywhere, limited only in some places by the 5.5 metre draft, while still looking classy when berthed alongside other superyachts in Monaco.

The Sea Hawk yacht does boast superyacht amenities, such as a huge sauna, gym and massage room. A helicopter hangar with an adjacent bar is also a clever feature as it allows the hangar to be used as an entertainment venue instead of just a functional area.

US couple whose yacht was hijacked by prisoners were likely thrown overboard, authorities say

An American couple who was feared dead after their catamaran yacht was hijacked by three escaped prisoners were likely thrown overboard in the Caribbean Sea, authorities said Monday.

Ralph Hendry, 66, and his wife, Kathy Brandel, 71, were last known to be near Grand Anse Beach in Grenada. Their catamaran, named "Simplicity," was found abandoned in St. Vincent and there were signs of violence at the scene, according to Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force spokesperson Junior Simmons.

Although family, friends, and members of the sailing community had hoped the pair was still alive, police in St. Vincent and the Grenadines said Hendry and Brandel were likely thrown into the ocean when their vessel was hijacked. "Based on the investigation thus far, it is presumed that Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel are deceased," Simmons said in a  video statement Monday .

Don McKenzie, police commissioner of the Royal Grenada Police Force, said at a news conference Monday that the three prisoners escaped on Feb. 18 from the South St. George Police Station. They hijacked the catamaran on the following day and traveled to the nearby island of St. Vincent, where they were arrested last Wednesday, he said.

Police: Prisoners 'disposed' occupants of Simplicity

After escaping from the South St. George Police Station, McKenzie said the three prisoners "commandeered" the catamaran, which had two U.S. citizens on board, Hendry and Brandel. The couple were likely thrown into the ocean and died, police in Grenada said.

“Information suggests that while traveling between Grenada and St Vincent, they disposed of the occupants,” McKenzie said.

McKenzie added that while police have "nothing conclusive" to prove that the couple was dead, he cited a "low probability" they were alive.

The suspects are being investigated for several criminal acts, including "bodily harm to the couple," according to Simmons. Authorities discovered signs of violence on the couple’s boat after it was found abandoned, he said.

"Several items were strewn on the deck and in the cabin, and a red substance that resembles blood was seen on board," Simmons said.

Police investigating prisoners' escape

According to the Royal Grenada Police Force, the escaped prisoners were identified as Ron Mitchell, 30; Trevon Robertson, 19; and Abita Stanislaus, 25.

All three were arrested and charged in December with one count of robbery with violence. Mitchell also was charged with one count of rape, three counts of attempted rape, and two counts of indecent assault and causing harm, police said.

McKenzie said police have launched an investigation into the escape and are looking into whether it was "a system failure" or a case of a "slip up."

"All aspects of that investigation are on the table," he said, adding that the police holding station where the three men were being held has "sufficient safety to prevent an incident like that (from) occurring."

The three men appeared in court in St. Vincent on Monday and pleaded guilty to four counts each of immigration-related charges, including entering the island as a "prohibited immigrant" with no passport, according to Simmons. They are scheduled to be sentenced on those charges in March.

Simplicity discovered by paddle-boarder near St. Vincent

The Salty Dawg Sailing Association said it was alerted by a cruising skipper about Simplicity, which was found "anchored and abandoned" off a beach on the island of St. Vincent. The association added that its live member’s tracking map showed the vessel anchored in Grenada before it moved to its last anchorage off St. Vincent.

"The good Samaritan had boarded the boat and noted that the owners … were not on board and found evidence of apparent violence," the association said in a statement. 

People reported that a sailing captain was paddle-boarding near St. Vincent when he noticed the catamaran with a broken sail. When he boarded Simplicity, he found the deck covered in blood and two passports belonging to Brandel and Hendry, according to People.

The St. Vincent Coast Guard took possession of Simplicity and local police are investigating with the U.S. Embassy and the Grenada police, according to the association.

Family, sailing community mourns couple's disappearance

According to a GoFundMe page raising money for the couple's families, Hendry and Brandel were "seasoned sailors who lived on their beloved catamaran." The pair spent their retirement sailing, the GoFundMe page states.

"This heartbreaking tragedy has left not only the sailing community, but also their families, shattered," the GoFundMe page states, adding that Brandel had recently welcomed her first grandchild.

The couple had sailed their yacht in last year's Caribbean Rally from Hampton, Virginia, to Antigua, and were spending the winter cruising in the eastern Caribbean, the Salty Dawg Sailing Association said. The association noted that the couple were veteran cruisers and longtime members of the association from its earliest days.

"Warm-hearted and capable, they both contributed to building the SDSA and Kathy sat on the association’s board for two years," the association said.

In a statement from the couple's families on Saturday, they thanked authorities and those who helped gather information.

"It means so much to us that so many people cared for Ralph and Kathy as friends and fellow cruisers that they are willing to stop and help in whatever way possible," the couple's sons, Bryan Hendry and Nick Buro, said.

Travel advisories near the Caribbean

Both Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are listed under a Level 1 travel advisory, according to the U.S. State Department. A Level 1 travel advisory urges U.S. citizens to take normal precautions in the area.

Other Caribbean islands are more dangerous, with Level 2 and 3 advisories in effect for the Bahamas and Jamaica, respectively. The advisory for the Bahamas was issued last month , warning travelers to "exercise increased caution" due to crime in some areas.

A security alert posted by the  U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas also advised U.S. citizens to be "aware that 18 murders have occurred in Nassau since the beginning of 2024." The alert warns that murders have occurred at all hours including in broad daylight on the streets.
